A N N O U N C E M E N T As our big news: it has taken the deliberation of all of us here on staff a lot of debate. We have come to realize that the next post needs to be a roleplay-wide collaboration with everyone. This is a big (daring!) move, but we promise complete transparency on reasoning and logistics.
The staff has had to delay the next round multiple times, we wanted everyone to know our reasons for making this decision and explain our somewhat drastic conclusion. We have spent a great deal of time examining where the pushback is coming from. While IRL responsibilities and communication issues played no small part, the biggest sphere of influence came from our mismatched posting schedule. Frankly, for this specific story point, multiple rounds of player posts would only detract from the narrative.
At TWoS, story is king and we do our best to maintain a high quality narrative. Attempting this next round without collaboration will drag out the day’s events unnecessarily. Additionally, it would have made communication of many important story events that we’ve plotted together (like the passing off of Kimura Asagi) less impactful. We have decided to make the next posting round a roleplay-wide collaboration. This would remove the onus of attempting an ill-fitting juggling game of bridging a complex conversation between the two cars off of the GMs for better fitting the story.
We do not plan to have more month-long collaborations. However, we want to keep it in mind as a last resort for narrative purposes. Hopefully everyone is as excited and comfortable about this decision as we are! The staff would be happy to answer any concerns or questions.
And now on to logistics:
Due to the complexity of 6 people collaborating on a single post, we have tried to make the planning at least a little easier. We have multiple pages made for this:
xxxxxx(1) A google doc writing document, where everyone can write prose, color-code their writing for ownership
xxxxxxpurposes, comment with feedback or thoughts, etc.
xxxxxx(2) A google doc for planning purposes, where everyone will get to write down any outlines or initiatives for the
xxxxxxpost. These will be separated into goals by character, as well as a post-wide initiative list for things like moving
xxxxxxKimura Asagi between groups.
The links to both docs will be privately posted in the Discord #plotting channel and pinned for easy access. If anyone has suggestions for additional docs, we’re open to facilitating those as well.
Realtime chat for plotting and discussion will also take place in the #plotting channel, or the GMs will be trying to make time for “fireside chats” if people would like to discuss over a Discord voice call.
Per our new posting schedule policy, this collaboration will be starting Jan 1, 2018 and due Feb 1, 2018. Extensions and special extensions will be allowed for this deadline, but we hope that proper planning and earnest effort will help us make it through without these. A maximum of 2 normal extensions can be used for this post regardless of the number of collaborators who want to use them, though accommodations can be made for special extensions due to real life obligations.
Due to the complexity of this endeavour, we will be expecting regular communication and/or writing. We trust everyone to maintain a continuous workflow, so we won’t be imposing weekly check-ins. Regardless, please keep in touch and notify us ASAP if things come up.
Thank you for being so understanding/willing to work us. We look forward to collaborating with everyone as we venture into the heart of Chapter 3!
