This is the sign up and 'out of context' thread for Torn Fate.

The following is a roleplay designed with no real set storyline. Please read ALL following information. I ask that you consider carefully before joining. Posts here should be of a decent length and contain productive story and descriptive writing. Do not spam and i ask that members wishing to join post a small profile within this thread and to await for confirmation before they begin to post. All out of context (ooc) posts should be private messaged to each other or posted up in here if it concerns all. If you wish to join please be sure that you intend to stay active!! All usual foum rules apply to this roleplay!

Before i post the storyline background for the roleplay i would like to say that although the story is set in the future, weapons, buildings and transport are extremely basic. More so than we have in the world today so cars, phones, computers, etc, will not be around during the story, neither would any of the characters really understand what they were, with the exception of the humans/desert people having slightly more technology than the other races.

During a world war in the year 3006 many people and parts of the world were destroyed by technological electronic bombs which destroyed technology as the human race knew it. All seemed to be ended until 300 survivors from underground bunkers across the world were released from the safe-prisons they had been sealed in for several years. During the following months (Now 3013) anarchy broke loose and the last remaining humans split into five seperate clans who later became known as:

The air walkers: A race of humans who moved into the mountains and slowly became adapted to the cold weathers and evolved over the next 1000 years and had slowly grown wings. Now able to fly through the air this race rules the world from air. The ability to fly means that this race can easily abduct prey from the air and carry it off to high cliffs. The air walkers worship a diety which they believe controls all of the skies in which they fly. They believe that snow, thunder and rain all come from their God.

Additional Information - The air walkers are mostly a gentle race. They live apart from most other races and their wings are extremely birdlike. I imagained them to have feathery wings rather than very leathery dragon like wings.
(Supplied by Rache) - The air walkers are a very patriarchal clan, power and wealth are passed down through the eldest male offspring upon the death of the clans leader.
At the age of 1 year, all air walker infants are sent to an aerie, a school to teach the young all the survival instincts needed to survive. When the air walkers reach the age of maturity, 15, they are sent on a sort of quest, a finding, to proove they have absorbed enough knowledge to be considered an adult.

The hunters: A race of humans who stayed level on the earth and moved to the forests. Over the next 1000 years they adapted to the ground and grew paw like feet and hands which held large claws made for hunting and tree climbing. Their speed and sight on land is extremely high and they are able to hunt any creature during dark hours. The hunters are a lot like werewolves, able to switch between a human and beast form to appear almost like the human race.

Additional Information - The hunters are a lot like werewolves in size and color, although i imagine them to have slightly more wolf attributes than traditional werewolves.

Water dwellers: A race of humans who moved out to sea and over the next 1000 years developed gills and webbed feet for moving quickly and swiftly through water. They are able to move onto land and appear almost human when their features are hidden. All water dwellers have a small tattoo on the backs of their necks which contain runes to enter the temples. The water people believe the world to be watched over by a Goddess of the sea. They believe that ths storms that plague the seas are caused by the anger of their Goddess.

Additional Information - The water dwellers are a matriarchal race, meaning, the women are seen as the races leaders. The females inherit wealth from their parents rather than the male born children. The fathers often have no more to do with either mother or child after childbirth. At 17 a male water dweller is considered adult and turned out by his mother. I imagine the water dwellers to be a lot like Kevin Costners character in 'waterworld'.

Human race: The only race to have not visually evolved over time. Their skin adapted to heat over the next 1000 years and they now reside in the desert where they live as humans once did. The human race are more developed with technology than the other four races and have created wind powered transport cars, with sails, to cross the desert with ease and also have access to a very small amount of basic firearms through years of salvaging. They worship a God that they believe creates thunder to water the deserts and sustain them.

Additional Information - The Human race are very much like the Al Bhed from Final Fantasy 10. They often live in deserts and have a greater concept of technology and machinery than the other races, although the technology they own is as basic as possible. They have access to very basic (old fashioned) firearms, wind powered buggies to move across the desert, dark goggles to shield their eyes from the sun and they often wear animal hide to keep the heat from their skin.

Earth crawlers: This race crawled into caves after the human race split. Their eyes adjusted to the dark and their skin to the coolness of the earth. Their teeth and nails soon became sharp from weaving tunnels deep into the earth. This race can not take sunlight anymore and are only spotted above ground after dark. Over years the earth crawlers have dug a labrynth of tunnels which are almost impossible to escape once you have been dragged deep within.

Additional Information - The Earth dwellers are very noctournal creatures and are rarely ever seen above ground. Their eyes are very sensitive towards the light so if they ever venture above ground, they keep to thick forested areas. I imagine the Earth crawlers to be a lot like Golem from Lord of the Rings, but a little more vicious and mole like.

Now in the year 4013 a prophecy approaches and the races, the ancestors to the survivors, are oblivious to the up-coming events that will take place to tear the earth apart if it can not be stopped. It is up to intelligent members of the races to discover this prophecy and join in an attempt to force the world together once again....

Name: Kaeria

Age: 20

Gender: Female

Race: Water Dweller

Weapons: Twin sai (the daggers that electra uses) which are strapped to a sheath belt around her waist and a large cross bow which hangs across her back.

Appearance: Kaeria stands around 5'10 with raven black hair which falls not far below her shoulders. Her Hair is braided with colourful blue threads to match the sparking blue of her eyes. Her attire is very typical of a pirate and she is often seen wearing leggins, high heeled boots and various torn tops of all shapes and designs. Up her back and across the back of her neck Kaeria has her clans black tattoos, etched into her skin using natural dyes when she was still small, but is currently the last remaining member of her clan.

Brief Biography: Kaeria grew up with her grandmother after her mother died during childbirth. Kaeria had no clan siblings and her father had already left the clan to sire new clans across the oceans (as was customary for the male members of most water dweller clans). Kaeria's grandmother taught Kaeria how to fish, hunt, speak old tongue (the language of the other races), salvage from underwater and to often leave sacrifice at the water temples beneath the ocean for the water Goddess 'Wave'. After Kaeria's grandmother passed through old age and Kaeria gave her body back to the waters she inherited the small boat on which her clan had lived and sought to travel until she found her clan mate.

I would normally write, and expect from other members, a longer biography than mine above. For this rp, however, i would like to see members developing their character throughout the story, rather than confining themselves to a definate character before they start to roleplay.

Race: Air Walker

Weapons: A rapier and a long bow

Appearance:
Damien Nyx is a six foot teenager whose black hair has a tendency to impair his sight. His unnaturally colorless eyes are inquisitive and playful, even if he tries to pull of a serious look.
His mouth naturally curves up in a small smile.
Leggings made from animal skins are his usual clothes, since tops irritate his pure white wings. He'll sometimes wear boots, but prefers to be barefoot.
Behind his right ear is a branded crescent moon, the mark of his family. He has black and red swirls tattoed up and down his arms as a sign that he is the first born son.

Brief Biography:
Damienk grew up in the aerie (a growing school), where all air walker babies are sent as soon as they are old enough (usually a year). There, he was assigned an instructor who would teach him flight, combat, botany, and hunting.
At seven years, Damien was taken on his first hunting trip, and he passed with flying colors.
At fifteen, the last year an air walker would spend in an aerie school, he was sent on his 'finding', the trip where the air walker must survive three months on their own in the mountains.
Damien survived.
But something happened during his finding that made Damien rather shy, and now he prefers to be alone rather than be surrounded by his fellow air walkers.
And he doesn't want to become a leader in the clans.
A social outcast, but respected as one of the next clan leaders, the air walkers refer to him as 'White', because his unusual pure white wings.

Race: Hunter
Weapons: He carries a sabre on his hip, a rough wooden spear on his back, and underneath the spear a heavy recurve bow. The recurve bow is of ebony and bone, and is only good for short distances.

Appearance: Lanir is really tall, and while skinny, he is still in really good shape. He is albino, with ghostly pale skin, long white hair, and crimson eyes. When he shifts to wolf form his fur is white, but his eyes are golden. When in humanoid form he wears a brown cloak, with brown leather armor underneath.

Brief Biography: When growing up he was forced to live without his parents as he died when he was very young. He was scarred by their unfortunate death, and he grew up a loner who shunned all social activity. He took his fathers sabre, and his mothers spear, and the bow he had made himself. Then he had taught himself in a martial art he made himself, and is known as the "Ghost Warrior", because of his skill and complexion. While not particularly strong he is fast, agile, and graceful. He lives to solve the deaths of his parents, and he has an unusual taste for blood. He revels in the glory and excitement of battle, and tells all that torture is merely a form of art of the finest art.

Weapons:
Twin Daggers: Folded and tempered steel, the slightly curvd blades of these daggers are sharper than razors, the hilts made of leather wrapped wood. The blades are held inside rather plain, hardened leather scabbards, positioned one on either hip.

Ivory Long Bow: A pure ivory long bow, it is five feet in length, and shoots with perfect accuracy. An elegant weapon, it is gracefully curved, and etched with beautiful markings. The bow string is made from an unkown, ancient material that seems never to be affected by the weather, nor does it seem to grow weak or slack.

Appearance: Standing two and a half inches above six feet, Kelack is considered tall for his people. A slim, graceful, yet strong figure moves with a gracefulness of royalty, highly toned muscles add to this feel. Shoulder length hair of blonde, slightly wavy, accentuates a smooth, handsome face. Crystalline orbs of alabaster gaze with an unusual wisdom not truly expected by one of his age. Wings unfolding to an average twenty foot span, they are feathered and strong, a hint of azure tainting the pure white. His attire is black jeans and ankle high boots. He wears no shirt of any kind.

Biography: Although not an orphan, his parents left him at a young age. Abandoned deep within the mountains where none other travelled, he learned to survive on his own, much learned through simple trial and error and instinct. Because of his time alone, he was found as a recluse, but bought into the Aerie at the age of twelve. Taught to make his skills the best they could, he learned combat with knives and the bow, forsaking other weapons for those. During his time at the Aerie he became more confident, and became less and less of a recluse. Now, having turned eighteen a short time ago, he prepared himself for going on the Quest that would prove he was worthy despite having spent only six years at the school. Still unaware of who his parents are, or why they abandoned him, he awaits his quest. An eager enthusiast, he is much loved by those both younger and older than himself, and respected by all.

Weapons: Two M1873 Peacemaker revolvers. Considered by many a pair of relics, but in the hands of a gifted marksman these weapons are as deadly as they are beautiful. If kept well.

Appearance: Faded brown eyes, long black hair with white strands here and there. He stands at five foot six inches, the black diamond shaped boots give his stature a little bit of a boost. He covers his head with a black flat-crowned hat, completely covering his eyes in darkness when shadow is cast. A dark, weather-worn, dusty coat provides just enough protection against the sun, his favorite. He carries a beaten leather pouch worn across his chest.

Brief Biography: Already fully adapted to the desert heat, Ave roams from place to place, taking on jobs that require his skill with a gun. He loathes the remaining civilization and detests using the powered carts to cross the desert. He’ll do anything for ammunition (which is rare for his type of weapons) and money. He bears a scar across his left eye, the product of a scuffle with a couple of Hunters. In a previous life, he had been a successful war general from a now forgotten kingdom.

He never learned how to use the traditional sword, however, and instead picked up a knack for shooting guns. He found his two pistols while on a crusade to discover any technological remains in an underground vault. Since then, he has gone around the known world in search of books and/or ammunition regarding his beloved and rare weapons. Ave has acquired a couple of books since and is an avid gunsmith.

Many who have known him call him the "Free Man" or "World Walker". Although there has been no real basis of why such names were given to Ave, there are rumors that he is not tied down by what elders call fate or destiny and this causes him to roam freely between them. These are all myths, though, told only to expand his notoriety as an effective bounty hunter.
