(I'm on trial for the role of Alice. ^^ Tell me if you think this post is good or not...)

The journey to Imaginine had been an exhausting one for poor Alice. After fleeing the clutches of those two blood-thirsty, and this is meant quite literally, assassins she'd made her way into the dense forests of Wonderland. It was a good thing that she's managed to grab a surprisingly sharp knife from the tea party's table before she left as the road ahead was bound to be trecherous.

She had been found, wandering the geyser littered plains of Imaginine and brought to the largest stronghold, what one might call the capital. She'd known of this place but hadn't had the pleasure of visiting before.

"One would hardly call this a visit, Alice," she corrected herself. "More of a coincidental meeting really. And one is very glad that it happened, too."

The 'Imagineers' as they called themselves, had been looking for her ever since the Jabberwock stole the throne. According to their leader, she was the rightful heir.

"Fancy that," she thought out loud. "The heir to the throne of the Queen of Hearts. One does hope one shant be as ruthless."

Saying that, she had been pretty ruthless in the forests of Wonderland. She had to have been. Her blue frock and apron were splattered with the blood of violent creatures, her hair matted with red. The knife she had stolen had been taken from her by a guard who told her she wouldn't need it any more. Alice had objected, knowing full well she was safer with some sort of weapon, but they weren't having any of it.

OOC: Great post, Alice! Very into character! I'm assuming you're in the governors' home, since you are such an important... 'guest'. :D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
March found himself being marched briskly through the streets of Imaginine, hustled harshly by Decemberist and his band of grim Imagineers.
Whoopee... Great... March had no doubts where they were going.
First, they'd be heading for the Governors' House. The Lion and the Unicorn would be more than 'happy' to find him guilty in multiple 'accounts' of murder, not to say all the other horrible things that covered his heart in black.
Then, there'd be the jail. First time he and Hatter had raided this place, the mission where they had successfully assassinated the Jack of Diamonds, they had stumbled across the jail. Nothing bad, compared to the Jabberwock's torture camps, but still unpleasant.
And then, certainly imminent, would be the execution.
March had no doubts that the governors would hesitate to give him the customary punishment of beheading or hanging as soon as they rested eyes on him, and then off to the gallows or platform. Maybe they still used the customary black heart-shaped axe...
Great... death was such a pleasant thing to look forward to...
The Governors' Home loomed in front of him, large and ornamental, gray and statuesque. White lacy roof pieces decorated it to the point of puceness.
Minutes later, they paraded grimly down the hall and Decemberist opened the first door to a large room. Turning to March and the escorting guards, he gruffly ordered, "In. March, be nice to the governors."
March was shoved in, followed by four Imagineers who would just have loved to kill him right there and then. The Hare slowly turned his eyes up to the governors.
One, a lengthy lion with mane brushed back to a professional looking style, watched them with kind golden eyes. His tawny fur peeked out from a light livery of a white shirt and beige pant, and earrings that dangled beaded strings hung from his rounded yellow ears.
Besides the upright lion, another standing beast stood, and this was the one that March couldn’t help but stare at. He had always loved to look upon the Unicorn. Majestically white and dressed in a heavy general’s uniform, the Unicorn narrowed the blue cold eyes under an ivory horn. A black mane slipped down his neck to disappear beneath the gray of the uniform. Gruffly, he glared at the March Hare and voiced, "Having a bit of trouble, Hare?"
"Er... well... Yes, actually. But no Imagineer is my target. Just a figure from stories past..."
"You mean Alice." muttered the Lion cautiously.
March nodded blatantly, "Yes, sir. So I'd rather be let go than-"
The Unicorn waved a hoof nonchalantly at one of the decorated guards that stood beside the door, "Go fetch Alice. She must have a say in this, shall she not? It is her life that our guest talks about."
March fell silent and moody, eyes falling to glare at the ground. No fair trial for him, then. Just the voice of a little girl who came from a world beyond mirrors and clocks and rabbit holes.
He wondered how she would react...
((Thank you. ^^ I need to read the books again soon. D= It's been too long.))
Alice found there was little of interest in the room they had placed her in. It was lavish and the furniture looked expensive, but there was nothing to do! Soon she was out and roaming the halls of the Govenor's mansion, not taking heed to the advice of her hosts.
Before she had gotten too far, a guard raced up the hall to meet her, puffing and panting as he stopped to catch his breath.
"You are required to attend at the court, Miss Alice," he said, straightening up.
"Well that sounds far more interesting than that boring, old room," she replied, although it was more like she was speaking to herself. "Who, may I ask, is on trial?"
"The March Hare, Miss Alice."
This had shocked her somewhat and begged a moments hesitation as she thought about the situation. She'd love for this evil assassin to get just what he deserved, yet something inside her had felt a twinge of sadness. They had after all spent a lot of time together, albeit hating one another. She wondered what had happened to Hatter as she followed the guard towards the room where the Lion and the Unicorn often sat over plum cake and sandwiches.
March's ears perked as he heard footsteps approach the room, and his heart pounded in nervous guilt. Oh, curse it! The blasted Lion and the Unicorn were just relishing the moment, weren't they?
The Lion sipped at a cup of golden tea, eyes fastened on the Hare's shuddering ears, "Do you hear something, March?"
March bowed his head and pleaded, "Please, don't make her my judge! She's... she's... biased." He was just searching for an excuse now, not ready to admit his guilt.
Smirking, the Unicorn munched on a piece of plum cake, a very small piece that in itself had divided into smaller pieces, as was the rule for such things, "Certainly. Biased because someone tried to kill her."
"I wasn't going to kill her... Jabberwocky wants her alive."
"Why? She's no asset to him. Actually, more of a threat to his reign." pushed in the Lion curiously.
"I... don't know, really... I swear... If I knew I would tell you! Oh, blazes, please don't make me look at her!" March raised his voice to a harsh pitch.
The soldiers holding him tensed, ready for any deliberate attack on the Governors or the aforementioned girl, but March wilted under the Governors' glares.
The Unicorn said witheringly, "Scared of a little Alice girl, are we, March?"
The Lion echoed softly, "Don't taunt him, comrade... He faces death if Alice doesn't approve."
"He should face death even if Alice does approve! I still remember the Jack of Diamonds! Him and Hatter eviscerated him!"
"But he had escaped from the Jabberwocky's death camp. The Jack was theirs for the hunting."
Fuming, the Unicorn smushed the rest of his plum cake into his mouth and chewed furiously, "Well... let's be respectful and have him take off his helmet... so he can see his judge in the clear light."
March moaned in horror. He had a feeling that the moment he saw Alice, he'd get a feeling to go and grovel at her feet, plead for forgiveness, sob into the hem of her dress for mercy on his deprived soul. He felt the soldiers undo the leather straps that held his helmet, and the metal slowly pulled away, leaving March blinking jerkingly in the strange bright light.
His colorless eyes became used to the lighting, and his pink-gray nose quivered in his scared nervousness.
Oh curses! Curses! Curses!
The whiskers on his cheeks trembled as he looked away from the door, not wanting to see the Alice child when she walked in.
There was too much to hide in the eyes, for they were the window to his demented soul. He was sure that they were dancing with tears and dark emotion, and he didn't want Alice to see that.
Alice peered in through the doorway to the room, seemingly waiting for somebody to usher her in. The Unicorn did so by beckoning her closer with one hoof. Alice obliged to his actions and stepped slowly into the room, hands folded in front of her.
"Mr. Lion, Mr. Unicorn," she acknowledged them with a exaggerated courtsy.
"Step up here, dear girl," the Lion said and showed her where to stand with one extended paw. Nodding, she walked across the room, escorted passed the defendant by one of the guards, who stood inbetween them. Taking her place beside the Lion and Unicorn, she surveyed the quivering March.
"Oh my," she said quietly, the dainty fingers of her left hand covering her lips. "One would never have believe this without seeing it," she commented, louder now. She felt the saddness from earlier but nw it had transformed into a dull pity for the hare.
March stared at the decorated parquet under his knees as he heard Alice talk in her voice. So soothing for the ravage ears, that sweet, melodic voice, but it was the voice that had every right to bring about his death...
Bowing his head farther down, he mumbled sullenly, "What would no one believe if they hadn't seen it?"
He gulped, the ball of fear constricting his throat tightening its noose with grim satisfaction, and finally choked, "Me? Grovelling before you? Is that funny for you? Or surprising? Or do you think I'm just an idiot?"
A moment later, the soldier to his left cuffed him harshly over the head, "How dare you speak that way to the Lady, freak?"
March grinned morosely, "Because I met her before she ever became this lady of yours. Isn't that right, Alice?" He spat the last word out like poison, but his insides squirmed in nervous guilt. Really... how dare he talk like this to his judge? Where had his logic gone today?
"That anyone could catch an assassin such as yourself," he replied. "It's quite astounding..."
She pursed her lips and tented her fingers gently. As she guard struck the prisoner, she cleared her throat and glared at him. "That is no way to treat a prisoner of war, sir," she warned him, tutting under her breath. She felt that sentencing the poor Hare would be a waste of his talents. Their must be some humanity left in him. But she couldn't give this as a reason for imprisoning him rather than havinhg him excetuted.
"Perhaps he should be sent for questioning. One thinks that would be far more productive than exterminating the only source of information we have about the Jabberwock King."
March finally raised his eyes to gaze at Alice in confounded amazement. She wasn't sentencing him to instantaneous and horrible death? But why? He had tried to kill her! If he had been in her place, he would have ordered himself to be hanged, drawn, quartered, and see which one killed him first!
"...questioning..." muttered March quietly, under his breath, remembering the countless tortures him and Hatter had invented to make people talk. He really hoped the Imagineers didn't have such methods, but he would be gallantly surprised if they just resorted to compromises like the old days.
Taking a deep breath, he lifted his gaze to look upon Alice's face, noting the small smears of red that decorated her still with the red badge of stubborness and longetivity. He coughed deep in his throat and whispered, "I'd be fine with that, milady."
Truly, he was, but he couldn't keep the nagging feeling away that he should apologize for everything... But that'd be showing weakness... and weakness was to be despised.
Waving her hand flippantly, she ordered for the Har to be taken to a prison cell without delay. Sure she felt sorry for him, ,but she couldn't forgetthat she would one day be Queen and she needed to be harsh but fair. She wasn't sure if this was fair. She didn't want to imagine what the people of Imaginine had thought up to get their prisoners to talk. Perhaps an instant death would have been more appealing to the poor Hare.
Once the court had been dismissed, she politely turned down the Govenors' offer to stay for tea on the grounds that she wanted to explore the twon a bit more. They agreed that this was a splendid idea and Alice stepped over the marbled floor with a gentle 'tap tap' from her shoes,soon finding herself alone in the halls of the large building.
"Now if only I could find my way out of here..." she thought out loud.
When Alice dismissed them, the guards instantly shoved March out into the hall, where Decemberist smiled grimly, "Is he going to die or not?"
One of the guards shook his head morosely, "No... Lady Alice has demanded a questioning."
From the glare that his brother gave him, March shuddered violently. Under his dented, tainted-white armor, his furry chest was soaked in nervous sweat. His ears were laid back in a fearful, defensive manney. Locking eyes with Decemberist, he hissed, "You. You question me. I won't give the answers to anyone else."
At least, with Decemberist, he had some grounds to maneuver on, some background knowledge that could play out to his advantage, even though the white hare hated his guts...
Decemberist glared at him and huffed, "Fine... whatever. It is how our lady ordained it so anyways." He motioned to the guards and they roughly began to drag March down the hall.
Alice took her time in finding a washroom, to rid herself of the smattering of blood she had aquired on her journey. She filled a sink with water that didn't always obey the laws of gravity, falling in a stream towards the right of the large bowl. Splashing the water over her arms and face, she scrubbed at the specks of dark red.
"This is all rather perlexing," she told herself as she looked in the mirror, trying to spy any of the dry crust she'd missed. "I never thought I'd come into such power and now I don't dare to use it..."
Carefully, she dabbed off the water onto a towel and exited the washroom. Perhaps it was time she sought out the March Hare and engaged in a little conversation with said rabbit.
"So... March... what exactly does Jabberwocky plan to do about us?" muttered Decemberist, his left hand drumming against a small sheet of scribbled-on parchement while his left fidgeted with the quill pen.
March had his head against the table, his ears laid down in a weary manner, "Hmm?"
"Jabberwock. His plan against Imaginine?"
"Oh... yeah... let me take a nap first... I'll get back to you." March closed his eyes, knowing how disgruntled it would make his brother.
Exasperated, Decemberist growled, "This is a questioning, March, not a time for napping and-"
March moved his head to that his chin rested on the wood surface of the table. His eyes once again scanned the dark stone room they had come into, "What? Sleeping is bad now? How about eating? Got a little thing I can eat? A person, perhaps. Or maybe I can just eat the rest of your face."
"AH! Shut up! You're such an insolent freak, you know!"
"And you're such an ugly one. How come you don't wear a mask or something. They're terribly comfortable too, if you haven't noticed."
"It's not my fault my face is like that. I didn't have to go and chew on it!"
"Well... would it help if I told you you taste horrible?"
"No." Decemberist retorted flatly.
Silence descended for a few moments, and then March sighed and sat up, leaning back into the back of his chair, "How's the rest of the family?"
Decemberist glared at him, "This is your interrogation, not mine!"
"So... brother to brother, than... not prisoner to prisoner."
Decemberist gazed suspiciously at him, his one blind eye staring blankly as his furious good eye searched for any maliciousness, but, finding none, softened just a bit. "The Rabbits are doing fine. The Hares are doing good also. If you were still considered part of the family, you'd be having about... seventeen nieces and nephews. Not that it matters or not. We've all decided you're not family anymore, traitor."
Silent, March smiled. Seventeen nephews and nieces? "How many are yours?"
"I have four so far."
"You married one of the Rabbits, right?"
"White's sister."
"Ah... and how is the White Rabbit doing?"
"White is good, just the tad bit late to every single appointment, but he always gets there, don't worry. He's the head of the messenger corps and... Why am I telling you all this? Tell me what Jabberwock's going to do!"
March closed his eyes and smirked, "You wouldn't want me to. Ignorance is bliss for rebels like you."
"Ignorance? What do you mean?" Decemberist's good eye clouded in suspicious alertness.
March brought one of his hands up from under the table and inspected it in disinterest, mind musing secretly, "Maybe if I have something to eat, I'd be more open to talk."
"Again with your stomach?" squeaked Decemberist, angry, "Maybe if I cut off your fingers and toes off one by one, you'd be way more open to talk!"
"Threats? Bad form, dear brother, especially to do that to one chained to a blasted chair. Not anything much..." March let his eyes grow wide and sparkling as he implored Decemberist with his eyes.
Disturbed, Decemberist scooted his chair out, stood, and muttered, "Fine. Be an idjit. I'm getting you an apple." Stomping from the room, he left March wide-eyed and groaning.
Apple?
What fun was an apple?
Name=Yggdrasial
Nickname=Mithos
Race=Cheetah
Weapon=Chakram-round blades
Height=6ft
Weight=150pounds
Fur=Black with Red spots
Eyes=Silver
Armor=Platinum Breastplate with Rune-crested Boots and Helm
Mithos was wandering through the forest in search of March Hare. His pride had waited what seemed like forever to get their vengence on Alice. Mithos knew the only way to succeed was to get March's assistance. A week had passed since the search for March had begun. This morning, as the light began to filter through the trees, he came across a pond. As he bent down to take a drink, a large ripple formed in the middle of the pond. Mithos slowly backed up, but as he did so, he tripped over a large vine protruding from the ground. Suddenly, everything went black.
Alice walked out of the kitchen with a sandwich as Decemberist turned the corner, grumbling under his breath. "Good, sir," she stopped him with one dainty hand. "Have you finished questioning the prisoner already?" she looked up at him enquiringly. "I thought I might have a word with him when you are finished." She took a bite from the sandwich. The chef had cut the crusts off for her and segmented it into triangles.
Wiping her mouth on the back of her hand to rid her lips of the crumbs, she looked back up at the rabbit. Once she had swallowed the small bite she'd taken she enquired further as to the Hare's mood and disposition.
March sat sullenly in his chair, tugging vainly at the chain that kept him grounded to this blasted chair. His wrist was raw and aching from the excessive chafing, and March slowly let his effort die off.
Standing, he stretched out his legs and crept to the corner, the chair screeching as it dragged behind him. He settled down on the floor and, bringing his knees up to his chest, stared moodily at the floor.
He had to draw this interrogation out as long as possible; he might actually gain an extra day or two of life.
Sighing, he lifted his head and yawned.
Where was Decemberist with his apple? He was bored... and hungry...
As consciousness returned, Mithos could feel his pulse throbbing in his head. His head was still sore from hitting the ground. As his eyes began to adjust, the realization hit him that he was in some sort of jail. From the looks of it, it had been used recently. There was some sort of rabbit hair everywhere. All of Mithos's weapons and armor had been stripped away. He could sense someone coming towards the cell.
"I knew it was only a matter of time until you ended up here."
"Cheshire? So the traitor returns. How long has been, five years? How long will it be until you stab your knew crew in the back?"
"I do belive it has been six years, which is far to little. In order to answer your other question, my new group has the right mindset. Unlike you, you twisted ruler."
"Still resorting to petty insults I see."
"You're not worth anything more. And, in case you haven't noticed, your behind bars."
"Why Cheshire, I thought you knew me well enough to know these things couldn't possibly hold me for long. You've been around me since I was born, Uncle!"
"Yes, and twenty-five years ago, I should have destroyed you when you were born."
"Well, if you release me now, you won't have to look at me.
"I'm afraid I can't do that. You see, you are a threat to Alice. I couldn't have you doing something bad to her. Good queens are hard to come by these days. But, I suppose Jabberwock has you thinking she's the bad one."
"Poor, poor Cheshire. When will you realize Jabberwock is the good one. Alice needs to be stopped."
Suddenly a voice called, "Cheshire!"
"That sounds like Decembrist. Sorry nephew, I'll have to cut our meeting short."
With that, Cheshire turned around, and walked into the darkness. Mithos, disturbed with the prospect of being locked in Cheshire's jail, began to ponder on an escape possibilites.
March dragged his finger through the dust on the floor, sighing. Where was that blasted brother of his? He should have been back by now with the... apple...
He sneered in disgust. Fruit! O horrible pieces of plants that people ate! Horrible! Yuck!
His thoughts were distracted when the door to the interrogation room opened, no one opening it, and closed, no breath of air to close it. March's ears stood erect, and he gazed at the door in confusion.
Something batted his ear, "Oh, March, March, March! Seems we've had a little run-in with the Imagineers, haven't we?"
March jerked back into the corner, eyes wide as they sought out the Cheshire who's voice floated disembodied around him, "Cheshire? You mangy cat! Where are you?"
"Right here." purred the Cheshire Cat, floating into view but a few feet away, wide grin on his face.
March glared at him. He hated that insufferable grin! "What are you doing here?"
"Decemberist is talking to Lady Alice, Hare. He told me to give you this." Cheshire tossed March an apple.
March caught it deftly, gazed at it, then set it down angrily, "Ah, come on! Just a little rat or something! Is that too much to ask for?"
Pursing his lips, still smiling, Cheshire sarcastically put his finger to his chin and muttered, "Hmm... last time I checked, rabbits and bunnies ate salad and cakes! Why's this? Are you a bunny or not?"
March threw the apple at him harshly and shouted, "You dumb cat! I'm a Hare! Not a cursed bunny!"
Cheshire chuckled and came over. Tugging March up cautiously, he smirked, "Well, I guess that's enough questioning for today. Tomorrow's agenda will be more along the lines of... gibberish, really. Can you still talk gibberish, March, or has all the new reality gone to your head?"
March growled under his breath, "Two plus two equals but two more than two plus two. Does that make enough sense for you?"
"Ahh... well... no, actually. I never was good at mathematics." Cheshire dragged March out of the interrogation room and down the hall.
"Where are you taking me?"
"To see my nephew. He's a bit demented, just like you. You two should get together just fine... If we're lucky, you'll two beat each other to death!"
March stiffened, "Ne...phew?"
"Yes. You'll be seeing the family resemblance, but he just had to be born that awful black color, you know?" Cheshire stopped and brushed at his own purplish-lavender fur, "Don't you think purple is such a lovely color? Better than black, I dare say so."
"Go put your head in purple and drown in it! Than I'll say whether I like it or not!"
"Calm down, bunny."
"I'M NOT A BUNNY!"
Cheshire kicked open the door to the dungeons and, carrying March inside, unlocked the cell and threw him in. March staggered up angrily as the purple cat locked the cell, "Ho hum, Mithos! Get acquainted with March here, and don't be feisty."
Cheshire vanished.
March growled deep in his throat and glared at his new cell-mate.
It was a good few hours before Alice stumbbled upon the holding place for the prisoners. She had never liked navigating the houses of Wonderland. Always growing and shrinking, changing and moving. At one point this one had completely defied the laws of gravity. "Rather like Escher's staircase..." she mused to herself.
Finally she had found the dungeons and hoped that she would be able to find her way back again. It would be awefully tragic if she were to remain stuck here forever even without the bars.
Her flat black shoes made a soft tapping sound on the stone of the floor. "My it sure is cold in here." She wrapped her arms around her upper body as she searched the long row of cells. "I wonder if they have all been occupied..."
March instantly forgot about his cell mate, this... nephew of Cheshire's when he heard Alice's voice.
"My, it sure is cold in here. I wonder if they have all been occupied."
March ear's tilted forward, gray fur standing on end as he listened intently. Tap, tap, tap... Alice was here! She was coming to see them!
Hastily coming to the bars, he peered out, couldn't see anything; she must be farther down the hall. So he stuck his arm through and waved it up and down, calling, "Miss Alice! Miss Alice!"
His hand crooked and beckoned with a finger, and March sincerely hoped that Alice would come. His heart was saturated with different emotions, but the two stupid ones called 'bravery' and 'guilt' strayed to the top. He wanted to apologize... Maybe...
If she came at all... "Miss Alice!"
'Come, please!' his mind cried, 'Please, oh, please! I want to ask for your forgiveness! Just... not straight out! Oh, please, just come!'
