4 months have passed since December 21, 2012. Many were killed that day. You are still alive but do you have what it takes to survive the after effects? (Started, accepting)

314 readers have visited 2013: After the Apocalypse since Man With The Plan created it.

Introduction

As it turns out, the Mayans were right about the apocalypse on December 21, 2012. Meteors had fallen all over the world with a high level radiation and destructive power that many were killed and billions of dollars worth of damage was done. New York City was one of the few places on Earth where the destruction was minimal (Compared to others that were completely eradicated.) but the radiation surrounding the city keeps people surrounded. If they leave they be killed by the radiation. Making matters worse, the radiation has caused both humans and animals to mutate into hideous, savage beasts so even the streets aren't safe. Now it is March of 2013 where all hope seems to be lost, do you have what it takes to survive the ruins of New York?

Toggle Rules

1. No godmodding

2. Stay Active, if you can't be active then tell me and if you leave permanently then either have your character die or have him/her up for adoption.)

3. What I say goes.

4. One of the most important things of all: You are human! You don't have super-powers and most likely you aren't some ninja demon slayer badass. You are an ordinary human who has to use the talents that he/she has in order to survive. You can't jump from building to building but you can have your character know parkour or you can have knowledge in martial arts for example.

5. Be realistic: You can't just fall from a ledge and get up like it is nothing, as said in the last rule: You are human! Your character CAN die if you aren't careful.

6. There isn't a limit to how many words you can post, but make it look neat.

7. If you have read and will comply will all the rules then put "End of the World" in the Other section.

It was 11:00 PM at night, T.K. was being chased by a gang of mutants but lost their trail. He had entered a somewhat crumbled parking lot with most of the cars wrecked, except for one. It was a red 78' Ford Mustang and it was in pretty good condition to, which should be good enough to supply some quick transport. T.K. walked up to it, taking off his jacket and smashing the window so he can put his hand on the inside door to unlock it. After a 30 seconds or so he successfully hotwired the car and drove off. Since there was no radio stations due to the apocalypse he searched the glove compartment for any CDs to which he found some 70s stuff. He wasn't a big fan of 70s funk music, but anything is better to having to hear the sound of people screaming and mutants roaring. He drove around the streets of New York, searching for people that can help him face the apocalypse.

Kyle was resting on the roof of a RadioShack. He had a radio that he had made from the junk that was left in the store. It was too big and bulky for him to take anywhere so he had set it up on a trashcan. Every now and then he could pick up someone’s transmission but there was normally too much static to understand what was being said. Luis had just finished making an omelet M.R.E. It had hashbrowns, bacon, crackers, a fruit drink, and a dried up poptart, a cinnamon twist and an omelet. Most of it tasted like crap but food was food. Luis had just finished his M.R.E when something came in over the radio.

Kyle stopped eating when something came over the radio. “We are held up in a supermart on Bill Street. We have food, water, and ammo, we just need more men. If you can get down here safely… DO!. Sergeant Davis Walker signing out.

Kyle thought for a second, he knew where Bill Street was. It was about a mile away from where Kyle was now. “I can make that in about an hour depending on if I run into anything.” Kyle said to himself. Kyle started speaking to himself because it was one of the few things to keep sane.

“Maybe I can hold up with them for awhile,” Kyle said as he stuck some of the radio parts in his backpack too. He walked over to the edge of the roof and looked for any hostels. When he could see no one he used the metal pole to lower his backpack down so not to break anything. Then he jumped of landing on the sidewalk and rolling into the road, he stood up and grabbed his backpack and started running towards Bill Street.

Ivy Monday

Ivy was walking aimlessly in the middle of what was left of a New York City road. Last year, this city was filled with so many people counting them would be like touching the sun. Impossible. Her body was tired and bruises covered her tanned skin. She had her dark hair in a messy pony tail, not bothering to look the least bit civilized. Miraculously she wasn't dead yet or had a deadly encountered the mutants. She came across some here and there but it never escalated to the point of her nearly dying. But she didn't find that lucky. She wanted to be dead. Everyone else was. Why had God decided to spare her pathetic ass?

The bag of her little belongings weighed lightly on her bag. She grunted and kicked over a rock towards the sideway in annoyance. The wind was dead and she longed for the light breeze that caressed her skin and brought the little comfort to her hopeless soul. The small and working watch that covered her wrist told her it was 9:03am. She yelled into the sky and her stomach growled. Cursing, she looked around for any malls or stores that may have possibly have food stored in the depths of this alien world.

No luck whatsoever. "Shit," she whispered and slowed her pace as she rounded a corner, her footsteps in line with the orange line that separated car lanes. She heard footsteps in the distance. She froze. It was the first time she heard ones that weren't slow and careful. They were running, fast paced but even. She wanted to know who it was. So she followed them trying her best to pinpoint the sound. Looking around, she didn't find anyone but the haunting pace echoed in the empty city. She broke into a run herself and in a matter of seconds collided unsuspectingly with a guy right around her age. (Kyle) She had turned a very sharp left and hit him. She fell on her butt and cursed. "Dammit," she hissed and looked up at the guy she ran into. She stood up and brushed herself off. "Sorry... Er I'm Ivy. Where you headed?" she said awkwardly. Her stomach grumbled in an angry greeting.

Kyle was shocked after running into another human. This is the first living person he had seen in more then three weeks. Kyle had his hand on his gun, but in a non-threatening way. Kyle studied her for a second, seeing that she was not trying to kill him he finally said. “My names Kyle.” He held out his hand to shake hers. “And I’m on my way to Bill Street to group up with some survivors out there. You want to tag along?” But before she could answer Kyle saw a mutant out of the corner of his eye, jumping off of the building they were standing near.

Kyle pushed her out of the way and jumped back himself so that the mutant landed on the ground. In one swift and fast motion Kyle pulled out the Kurki from his left hip and stuck the knife deep inside the mutants head. After killing the mutant Kyle struggled a little to pull the knife back out. ‘This is not as easy as it looks in a movie!’ Kyle though to himself. Kyle was now done with the task at hand and looked around for anymore mutants, seeing none he looked back to the women he had just met. “I think it’s about time we leave, you can tell me your name on the way, if your coming that is.”

Cassie sat staring at the stuffed teddy bear lost in thought. She had happened across the dog eared, half destroyed thing whilst walking down the street. She had almost walked past but something about it had made her stop and walk back to it. She had picked it up and stared at it her mind far away. She was back in England watching as her twin brother Michael played with his teddy bear. She had often teased him, when they were young, about how he had never gone anywhere without it. With a sigh she dropped the teddy onto the street and continued walking.
"Where are you now Michael?" She wondered aloud.

She no longer worried or cared what it meant that she was talking to herself as there was no one around to be concerned or care if she had gone mad. She often talked or sang to herself mostly to keep the silence at bay. It gnawed at you and Cassie had learned early that she did not like the absence of any noise. New York used to be such a hive of activity but now not even animals seemed to venture into its streets anymore. The only thing still living were the mutants and the only thing worse than the silence was the sound of screams, and guttural cries. Cassie usually headed in another direction when she heard them too afraid to face whatever was making the noise. Part of her hated that she did not have the courage as someone could be hurt or dying and her old training was still there. But self preservation, she had learned, was more powerful than wanting to help people.

She walked aimlessly unsure where she was heading but knowing she could not continue to walk without a purpose as she needed food and a place to shelter that was more permanent than what she had been using. She had just began crossing the road when she heard a sound that seemed out of place and louder than anything else. She froze and listened and realised what she heard was a car engine, it was a sound she had not heard in weeks and one she had thought to hear again. She broke into a run hope filling her as she realised that someone else could be alive in the city. Maybe she really wasn't the only one. She reached the next street and saw a car driving away from her, it was an old mustang. She ran into the road screaming at the car to stop and waving her arms praying whoever was driving checked their rear view mirror.

"Wait! Please stop!!"

Ivy Monday

The guy introduced himself as Kyle. He was fairly tall, Ivy noticed and had to look up to him to look in to his eyes. She frowned at this fact mentally but kept her facial expressions neutral. She hadn't met anyone since a long while that she hadn't even bothered to count. Ivy had given up on counting days, weeks, but not hours. When the world was normal and undying, she had a very good sense of time on a daily basis but never quite got the day correct. Mondays felt like Wednesdays and Fridays felt like Thursdays so she was always asking someone for the date but no one ever had to tell her the time. Now she relied on the small watch that was bound to break anytime soon. The hand stopped moving the day before and she tapped the plastic object until it did. Time was her sense of order. A chain left unbroken amongst the dead and ruined.

Being pushed away caught her by surprise. Ivy had not seen or even heard the mutant come down. She looked up at it wide eyed. Fear rose like a hot air balloon up her throat as she recalled how human formed the mutant seemed. It was a monster of course but once this person was some one's child. A person's neighbor and friend. Thanks to the world it has become nothing but another effect of the world collapse. Kyle stabbed the mutant and struggled until it died. A scene from a Hollywood movie. A teen fighting mutants. Where was superman to the rescue? Or Peter Parker with his spidy skills? No where but on the long lost movie screen. Ivy stood up as Kyle offered for her to tag along.

"After that thing, I don't think I could possibly say no," she eyed the dead body and skirted around it. "How can you-?" she stopped midsentence and kept walking. "Is it this way? The way to Bill Street?" She faced the direction where he was headed. She never paid much attention to the street signs that she passed on a daily basis. She probably walked in circles for days with noticing. But there really was no direction for her, until now. If they had a group of survivors, then maybe the human race wouldn't die. they could rebuild. Return to their world. The world that was destroyed because of the era of high rein. If only this were just a dream.

Allison kept low to the ground, staying in between the buildings that still stood and hiding behind some of the left over rubble from those that weren't standing. She needed protection. At this point, she had nothing but her bare fists, which weren't really a good thing to rely on. She was cold and hungry, and was beginning to go into a state of panic. She looked around and saw no one in sight. Was she the only one to survive? She couldn't be! That would be.. It would be impossible. Flat out impossible. Slowly she stepped out into the street, her footsteps echoing lightly.

"H-Hello!?" The burnette cried out. "Hello!" She repeated, squinting and trying to see through the fog. Without waiting for a reply she headed openly through the streets, spotting a small resturant. She ran towards it, shaking the door frantically. It wouldn't budge. "Dammit!" She yelled, looking around. With a sigh, she walked over to the window, trying to see in. Bodies littered the floor but the window was suprisingly, and unfortunetly, still intact. She shuffled back, took a deep breath and kicked the window in, shattering it enough to fit herself through.

Quickly Allison slid herself though, cutting up her chest and hands in the process. She hopped in and looked around. The bodies already began to smell. "Ugh.." She mumbled, plugging her nose and heading to the back. She knew what she wanted, a knife. She could wield it without hurting herself, and it wasn't a struggle to carry on her. The girl hopped over the counter, smearing some of her blood on the counter, and went back into the kitchen. "Knife. Knife. Knife." She said, not wanting to stay in one contained place for too long. Pulling open drawers and cabnits, scoping the counters and hanging shelves, she walked through the back. Finally she opened a drawer finding the knives. "Yes!" She grinned, pulling out a large butcher knife.

"This.. This will work." She said, taking off back out the front. She unlocked the door and opened it up, stepping out. The sound of the doors closing echoed loudly, snapping her back into reality that she might be all alone. The grin quickly was wiped off her face as she stared out into.. nothing.

Kyle and his new friend had nearly made it to Bill Street when a noise came from behind the duo. Kyle glanced back and instantly yelled… “RUN!!!” Kyle un-holstered his Glock and started to run. It was a horde of nearly 40 mutants running through the street, busting up cars and builds. Anything that was in their path was destroyed. Kyle stopped for a second to fire a few aimed shots at the horde, two fell dead then Kyle continued running.

“Don’t look back!” Kyle yelled as he quickly turned and fired off two more shots, dropping one and wounding another. ‘This is not going to end well.’ Kyle thought to himself. Kyle was dodging and vaulting cars to get out of the way of the horde. Kyle looked to his right to see his friend keeping up. All of a sudden out of nowhere the air filled with the sound of gunfire. TAK TAK TAK TAK TAK. Mutant after mutant fell to the ground dead. Suddenly a door opened up and a man stood in the doorway. “Hurry you arses up and get in here!” He said in an Irish ascent. Kyle grabbed his new friends arm and sprinted towards the door. They made it and the door slammed behind them, Kyle heard several latches lock and something brace up against the door. They had made it to safety!

Ivy Monday

Meeting someone else in the aftermath of the End of the World was an interesting thought. Ivy thought for a single split second that they would go down to Bill Street together normally. But of course an angry mutant mob had to find them and chase them. Running and cursing she managed to keep up with Kyle who fired a few rounds behind them bringing down a couple of the monsters. Kyle didnt have to tell her not to look back. Ivy didn't want to look one in the face in fear of what she may see. She would have been dead if the horde came by her when she was alone and practically defenseless.

She felt Kyle pulled at her after gun fires sounded through the air. Ivy ducked her head thinking the guns were aimed at them but it took her longer than it should have for her to realize they were saving her. A man opened a door and yelled at them to get in it. Eyes wide in fear, she nearly tripped as Kyle pulled her by her arm into the door. Her breathing was hard but it wasn't painful. She had ran hard before and it wasn't going to kill her now.

Locks sounded in the distanceyet Ivy knew they were behind her. She couldn't even register the fact that those locks meant safety. She felt around and found Kyle's arm and gripped it tightly. Minor shock was still there and she finally got her breathing to calm. She looked at Kyle and quickly let go of his arm. Flustered she searched for her bag which was thankfully still attached to her back. "Holy Hell," she breathed panic escaping her bones. Relief finally setting in, "That was horrid."

That had been the longest four minutes of Kyle’s life. After he caught his breath he looked up at the guy who opened the door and the now three other men in the area. “Thanks for the save. We would have been goners had you not stepped in when you did.”
Kyle held out his hand to the man that had opened the door. “Names Kyle, Kyle Jackson.” The man looked in his mid-thirties, he had redish brown hair and green eyes, you could tell he was at least part Irish, and his face was covered in stubble. How could anyone expect not to have at least some stubble in this environment? He was about Kyle’s height and probable weighed about 200 pounds.

The man grabbed Kyle’s hand and shook it. “Names Lucus, Patrolman Lucus Black. No problem, just glad we could help. You should talk to Sergeant Brooks, he likes to meet all the new folk. He’s over there in the managers office. Lucus said while pointing towards the back of the store. Kyle looked down that way and shook his head. “Will do.” Kyle said while looking over to his new travelling companion. “You ready to go meet the Sergeant?” The store was pretty big for a market, it was one story but had a latter to get up to the roof. There were eighteen rows of shelves, most of it was food but they had other things there. (Simmilar to a CVS store but with more food.)

Ivy Monday

Ivy looked around before even looking up at her rescuers. She was starving. Bags of chips lined the nearest shelves. Dorites, Lays, Cheetos, and other food made her mouth drop. This was the most food she had seen in one area for months since Dec 21st. Before she would walk into this store and pick a few foods and buy them looking at them like they were just nothing. Now they tugged at her stomach. Licking her lips she looked up at Kyle and then back to the man who had saves their asses.

"Um, sure but uhh," she didn't want to seem rude. She pointed at the shelf of chips and bit her lip. Not a word came from her mouth as she watched intently for their reactions. She didn't want to face the Sergeant much. In truth, people in unifom made her uncomfortable.

(Sorry for the shortness, I'm drawing a blank -_-)

T.K. looked in the rear view mirror and saw a woman yelling for him. It was odd as he doesn't a normal person to often, it was either a mutant or some savage little wanderer looking to rape, steal from and then kill you once they were done. It is a good thing that T.K. always has his M1911 ready or else he would be dead by now.

He stopped and drove next to this woman, "What is a fine girl like you doing in a dump like this?" Even in hard times, he can't help himself when it comes to cracking jokes. After that he got into a more serious tone, "I wasn't expecting to see another person around here. I also wasn't expecting to find a car around either but it seems I am lucky today." While he may be acting like she doesn't pose any threat to him, he has his pistol ready just in case because if a stranger were to steal his car and abandon him out on the streets, this wouldn't be the first time it happened.

John Mills:

John took a last look around the apartment, seeing if he could see anything worth salvaging that would be useful. All John saw were some overturned chairs, a broken table, and some empty cabinets. As he gazed at all of it he felt some sort of tug at his brain, it wasn't quite something he could verbalize, but he quickly shoved it out of his mind.

John closed the door to the apartment and was hit by an absolutely nauseating smell, John could smell rotten food, months of unattended garbage, and most repulsive of all, decaying bodies. John took a deep breath through his mouth, that was a mistake he decided as he got the taste of the smell in his mouth. He looked down the long dark hallway, there was the occasional shaft of sunlight falling upon the worn and faded carpet through doors that had been broken or left open in their owners flight from their dwellings. John decided that he better get out somewhere where he could see anything coming at him just as well as anything that would want to see him. He made his way cautiously towards the end of the hall, with his ears constantly alert for any sound out of the ordinary. Just as he was about to open the door John heard a mighty roar and froze before finally resuming his wary journey to the end of the hallway.

When John finally got to the end of the hall he quickly located the door to the stairwell. It was a faded red color and there were several brownish stains on it, John barely paid any heed to it as he slowly opened the door, while simultaneously putting his hands around his trusty Claymore, he was carrying slung over his back. As he descended the stairs John thought he heard some gunfire in the distance and some mutatants screaming in the far distance, as he was listening he slipped and and fell down several stairs. When tried to stand up there was a sharp pain in his leg, he cried out silently in pain. "Dang that is going to make things more difficult." He limped the rest of the way down the stairs. When he finally got to the ground floor John opened the door and started limping towards the outside.

Suddenly John heard a noise and then an unholy scream he turned around just in time to be struck by a telephone across the chest. Normally the blow would've just knocked John back several steps, however with his weakened leg John fell down backwards. As he fell over he saw an unholy grotesque creature bounding at him on all fours from across the room. John grabbed a borken couch leg and swung it as hard as he could. There was a very satisfying smack as John felt the leg connect with the mutant's head. The mutant fell out of John's eyesight, he quickly rolled over and grabbed his claymore, while pushing himself up on his good knee. He saw the mutant coming again, thinking it out quickly he brought the blade down right through the mutants disformed shoulder blade, because of the mutants speed and angle, it went clear through the mutant splicing it's spine in half. The mutant fell on John and made a few last dying screams in John's face before finally going limp on. John shoved the mutant off and pulled his blade out of it, he cleaned the blade off on the dead mutant.

John limped out of the building with a few more scratches then when he started down the stairwell, he started trying to hash out where he should head towards, John finally decided on going towards the gunshots. "Either they lived and have protection or are dead, either way I need to get some help."

Cassie sighed in relief as the car stopped and reversed to where she was, she rested her hands on her legs for a moment getting her breath back before looking at the man who had climbed out of the car. He looked so normal that for a moment Cassie was tempted to hug him but she saw how he held the gun and it was clear he was wary of her and to be honest she could not blame him. Like her he had obviously seen nothing but the dead and the mutants and so it was no surprise that he did not know what to make of her. He greeted her with a joke which Cassie found a little strange but then she figured you had to keep your spirits up somehow.

"I have been wandering alone for what feels like forever." Cassie said. " When I saw your car and realised it meant there could be someone else alive, I had to see for myself. Besides safety in numbers right?"

Peter was sitting in his 7th floor hotel room where he had been staying for months. The disaster struck while he was out on business leave. His family was back in Sacramento. He had spent the last week scrounging for food and what he called "supplies", although he was much too scared to even leave the hotel he was staying in. He stood up off of his computer desk (with his now-useless desktop computer) and made his way through the debris on the floor to the hotel balcony. He hadn't even thought of tidying the place up, which was unusual for him. He leaned on the railing, which crippled a little under his weight, and stared into the sky. Grey clouds of pollution and dust were aimlessly floating along in the sky, casting dark shadows on the ground. He couldn't help but think that this was all a dream, and he was meant to be in reality. This event, this 2012 bullshit, this urban legend had all been exploited in movies, comics, television, and the media... And now, it happened. Movies, comics, and television didn't even exist anymore. This was a reality.

Peter broke from his thoughts for a second to see a large red Mustang at the foot of his hotel. He panicked and rushed inside and grabbed a handful of old rusty silverware from his kitchen. He rushed back to the balcony and shouted at the car "I can see you! Get out of here you undead monsters, you! Get back in the ground! Zombie freaks!" Which each sentence he threw down a fork or a spoon, with full intention on hitting the car, or whomever was inside of it.
