Moonsong

Everything speaks if you care to listen

0 · 451 views · located in Evalion Lands

a character in “24 Elements”, as played by RacoonMoon()

Description

Name: Moonsong
Age: 13
gender: Male
Element: Sound
element powers: He can create sounds from nothingness, can hear things from miles away, and also echolocation like a bat. Lastly he can alter what people hear.
Appearance: White wolf with long black ears
fear: Fast things because his echolocation can't react fast enough to pinpoint where they are every second.
weakness: sensitive hearing, overly loud noises. Also he's blind
personality: Moonsong is quiet and observant. he's quiet because when he speak he must switch attention from all the other sounds to his conversation. He prefers to send out his enhanced hearing and just learn everything there is to learn. He is usually very serious seeing (metaphorically) things as they are, as he can't read body language or see smiles or snarls.
history: Moonsong was born blind but where most wolves might be killed because of this his hearing made up for the lost sense. there were times when his cover as a healthy pup almost failed, for example when he was young he would scream in agony at the many forest sounds flooding his ears until the spirit wolf came to him and helped him conquer the sense, but it endured. He was able to pass off as a completely healthy wolf until his first winter when the near constant blizzards overran his senses. He was completely blind in this season and the leader soon found out his secret. He's alive today only because his extra sensory abilities help find prey and protect the pack from outsiders. However because he can't hunt or fight he is very low in the pack hierarchy (omega).

Wisp nodded to Moonsong, not very happy that she had to be translated, especially since Moonsong had to do it for her. As her trotted off, she watched with curiosity, as he followed a rabbit. She cocked her head and then saw him make his way toward the wolf of Electricity. The amount of wolves around her set her on edge. She had never so many at once before. It did puzzle her. Why would Mother Nature bring them all together? It must be for a very serious reason. There would always be evil creatures to be disposed of in this world, but bringing them all together? Mother Nature must be very desperate. She blinked, letting her eyes stayed closed longer than normal.

"Only time will tell."

(OOC: Haas33: correction to your last post. Moonsong has not gotten up yet he is just casting out his hearing to do these things.)

The wolves he had been watching were now aware that they were sitting here. He stifled a guilty pang of sadness that he wouldn't have to force their attention anymore. Another time he thought about to call out to the hesitant wolves. Before he did he felt the intense glares of Kida and wisp on him. It made him feel like a pup being chastised for doing something wrong and he didn't like it. He had gotten enough glares like that in his lifetime and not once were they welcome. What was so special about him right now to interupt their conversation. As soon as he thought it he knew his answer. He had forgotten to translate wisp's words while he was listening to the other wolves. "can you repeat that" he said nervously.
once he had repeated wisps words he turned his attention back to the other wolves. He would get a brief break while Kida talked but he kept enough attention on them so that that awkward moment wouldn't happen again. He thought of how he should approach them and thought he should just go with it. Worst case scenario the wolf of electricity would zap him. Actually that was a good reason not wing it but nonetheless he proceeded. It was his nature to never be completely void of caution so at first he projected his voice through a tree near his audience. "Hello how are you doing today?" he said beginning with the rare pleasantry. He wasn't fond of pleasantries considering them more useless sound but right now it would ease the weirdness of talking to a tree. He sat waiting for a response from either of his two conversations but all the multitasking he had been doing lately was taking it's toll on him. He promised himself a day of quiet tomorrow as he tried to ignore the acculmulating head ache.

"No that one is a complete stanger to me. They don't look evil though maybe we should talk to them anyway they is a possibility we could be friend with them." She replied a little excited but trying to contain it. There was also the possibiliy the wolves would be the complete opposite but that as unlikely right? Zaira thought silently her tail swishing behind her back and forth like window wipers. Her little ears twitched at the sound of a bird leaping out of it's nest into the light breezy morning sky. She wondered what it was like to fly and feel air under her paws rather than the soft damp feeling of grass or mud. For a moment she was in almost a trance watching the bird then she shook her head and looked back at the other wolves. I can't fly so stop wasting your own time." She told herself firmly and went back to thinking about what to do or how to react about the wolves.

Shelbie nodded in agreement when Zaira mentioned they should go talk to the other wolves. Shelbie chuckled when she caught Zaira trying to contain her excitement, her tail twitching slightly back and forth the only indication of it. "You don't have to hide your excitement," Shelbie smiled, "Actually, I'll admit I'm a bit excited at the idea of yet another new face as well." Shelbie sat for a moment, swishing her tail gently back and forth as she thought about the best way to approach the wolves. She was just beginning to piece together a plan when a loud noise interrupted her thoughts. Shelbie stood growling slightly with her ears back and her hackles raised. It was a voice, a wolves voice, and it had just asked them how they were doing. Shelbie knew there were no other wolves around except for the three that were within their sight. She turned in the direction of the noise and saw that it seemed like it was coming from a tree. Shelbie went through a list of all the possible elements the wolf who was doing this (because there was no way she was talking to a tree) could control. The only one she thought of that made any sense had to do with sound. Shelbie looked at Zaira to she how she had reacted before cautiously responding. "I'm doing quite fine, aside from hearing voices from a tree," Shelbie joked, not quite sure of the best way to respond.

Moonsong sighed mentally at the wolves. He would admit that he expected hostility from the wolves when they heard the sound transmitted from a tree. He had better hearing than anyone and could assure that trees didn't make this kind of noise on their own. The sound trees made was usually a deep scraping as wind flow over the bark maybe with a whistle if it was hollow but never speech. He stifled a physical laugh and transmitted it through the tree to the other wolves. It wouldn't fare him well if he laughed during kida and wisp's serious conversation. He was grateful for the break of a light hearted conversation after all the tension-filled ones he'd had lately. Moonsong was actually a reasonably fun wolf to be around but after never meeting someone willing to have a mutual relationship of fun with him he had developed a outer layer of seriousness. He wouldn't admit it to anyone but inside he had longing to just have fun.
There had been a brief moment of hostility but after that everyone seemed to calm down. He decided that it may be best to try another pleasantry before bringing them over to him so he asked for their names. He already knew both of their names from listening in on their conversation but they didn't have to know that. He didn't think any wolf would be okay with knowing another wolf had been spying on them.

"No I'm not." he said hardly believing it as the words came from the tree. He hadn't been thinking when he had said that. The instinct of protecting himself had kicked in and he had done nothing to stop himself. He could feel the nervousness rising up in waves from his pelt and he did nothing to stop it. He had never had reason to lie before. He had always believed that it was best to get straight to the point instead of wasting his senses on people trying to pick apart his lies. Not to mention that who would he lie to as a loner and the consequences of lieing as an omega were too terrible to even consider lying. However when he thought it over he realized he was glad for the instinct. If he had told them he was the wolf of sound then he would instantly plant the image of a blind wolf in their minds. Hadn't he just been thinking about how he had longed to have fun but couldn't with his reputation. Well he could do that with these wolves. He could create a whole new identity for himself through this tree. But first I have to think of it he thought turning his mind back to the situation. He would have to come up with some explanation as to why he could speak through this tree. He contemplated saying it was one of the many powers of the wolf of earth and decided that was the best chance to make the lie come across.
Taking an audible gulp he thought Here goes nothing. "My name is Adik and i'm the wolf of forests not sound. What kind of element is sound?" he said throwing in the self inflicted insult to make it more believable. He gave a small chuckle as if he was thinking about the comedy of the thought. He would admit that the name wasn't creatve in fact he had just reversed the letters of kida's but he was new to lieing and he was coming with all of this on the spot. As he progressed though became fluent in this language of deceit and the lies spun easily from the tree's core. When Shelbie asked him if they could speak face to face he immediately had a lie prepared for why they couldn't. The only problem was how he would convey it without earning sympathy from her as compared to the playful mood he preffered her to be in. He could get sympathy easily enough without the use of adik but he bagan his fable. He explained that he couldn't come out because he was shy and that his body wasn't fully formed yet. Mother nature had just recently created his conciousness and was still working on his body so for now he existed in the trees and bushes of this forest.
The whole time he was thinking of how he would pull off the ruse. To be the wolf of forests meant he would have to be able to manipulate nature like he could do with sounds. I should probably start off with a demonstration to prove i'm not lying even though I am. He contemplated how grand he should make the demonstration whether it be as simple as moving a vine or rustling every tree in the forest. The bigger the effect the more believable Adik will be he thought giving off an inaudible sigh. He got up from his spot asking wisp and Kida to stop their conversation for a moment and sat down someways away from any where he had found any of the wolves. He had a aching headache by now after all the multi-tasking he had been doing. Even now he was listening to Shelbie and Zaira and answering whatever questions they had through Adik, Listening to see if Wisp was saying anything he would need to translate when he got back , and echolocating his path. Needless to say he fell short of the latter may times and was covered in grass and dirt when he finally stopped in the clearing.
It was the same clearing that the blizzard had been i but it seemed to have concentrated itself to a small part of the clearing. Sitting slowly in the clearing he began concentrating on making a sonic boom loud enough to shake the leaves all the way back to Shelbie and Zaira. He would give himself a headstart by collecting the noises of the forest around him discretely enough as not to arouse suspicion from wolves. To start this he had to drop his attention from the fronts it had been on before and he had a brief moment of relief until he reigned control of the boom. Just these sounds weren't enough so he started lending enough sounds until he could barely control it anymore. To add to this as soon as the sound was released he would have to silence it so it wouldn't bust the eardrums of anyone or thing. The speed of sound was really fast and he didn't know if he would be able to protect himself from the blast in time while still controlling sound. He felt the chill of the bizzard against his fur and almost lost control. He didn't give himself time to think instead walking into the freezing cold of the blizzard. As he expected his hearing was instanly cut off within the blizzard and he was able to increase his concentration until it was perfect. He had just enough sound energy to rustle the leaves for miles without breaking anything major. Turning his head in the intended direction his breath drew in as he prepared to give the releasing bark. His eyes and ears were glowing a blinding white sybolising the stored up potential energy held within him now. At the same moment of release he had Adik say "Hey watch this." and the wave burst forth. He barely had enough energy to silence it before passing out beside in the middle of this bliizard. If you listened carefully to the boom the only thing you would hear would be the faint yelp of a blind wolf.

Moonsong finally awoke from his slumber with the pain of ringing ears. It could be worse he thought remembering the first time he had attempted a sonic boom. He had been deaf for hours and been forced to face the humiliation of being blind and deaf. He shivered at the thought before stretching himself in the remains of the blizzard. He looked to the wolf he had heard beside him ealier but decided not to say anything. He had other things to attend to. He shook his head back and forth but his ears were still clogged. Even the blizzard around him was a mere whisper to him right now. He gave a series of loud barks until he could hear them just as clearly as he should have been. "Much better" he said to himself just thankful he could hear. Problem was with his hearing back the blizzard was as loud as ever and he fled from it quickly.
As for the next problem he could face was maybe the hardest thing so far. He had no idea how long he'd been out but he doubted the world would stopped on his account. Shelbie or Zaira could have said anything in response to his demonstration and he would know nothing of it. Well he could deal with that when he was somewhere safer than the middle of a field. As he set off his stomach growled reminding him that he hadn't eaten in even more time in a long time. He wasn't sure how much time he could spare hunting while paying attention to his other conversations but he knew he would have to eventually. He refused to have someone else hunt for him so he set about his special hunting process. Being blind their were many things that he had to teach himself because a blind pup wasn't usually allowed to live. Only his echolocation made him seem like the other pups. Hunting was one of these skills and it was completely different from the conventional methods of a wolf. Instead of stealth and teamwork he used deceit and planning to get his meal.
Too start he dug a hole that was as deep as he was high that could act as a trap to chase prey into. With that done he sat and listened. I was about time for prey to be stirring so they should be looking for food and too slow to react to his deception. Soon he was able to pick up the distinct fall of dirt that fell as a rabbit scampered from his hole. Now the deceit could come into play. Hiding himself in the brush he started to create the noises of every predator the rabbit face from every direction bu the one moonsong was in. The rabbit's instint kicked into play and it ran in the only direction it thought was safe. Moonsong did this every time the rabbit straye off course until the rabbit fell into his hole. Even a rabbit couldn't jump that high and so it stayed at the bottom of the hole frantically searching for escape. Now came the part he dreaded about hunting when he had to go and actually kill the rabbit. Jumping down into the hole he pounced at the rabbit. The rabbit was faster than him and it darted out between his legs to the other side of the small hole. "Come here rabbit." he muttered spitting dirt from his mouth. "No your going to eat me." the rabbit shot back quickly as it darted away from another one Moonsong's pounces. Next to being blind, understanding the language of literaly everything was another downside to being wolf of sound. They both combined to make hunting excruciatingly painful. When the prey talked back he just felt cruel killing it.
"Of course I am. I'm a wolf and your a rabbit. That's how it works."
"But we can help each other. Perferably in a way i don't have to die."
Moonsong stopped his attempts and cast his blind gaze on the rabbit. This rabbit was peculiar to put it simply. His meals had tried to appease him before but never offer a partnership.
"What do you have in mind?" he asked without any intention to hear him out.
"Um well..," he didn't seem to have thought moonsong would actually listen. "You could offer me protection and I could-"
"Feed me?" moonsong interupted.
"Be your eyes." he said pleased he had come up with something.
With a growl moonsong finally caught the rabbit beneath a paw and fumed angrily in his face. "What makes you think i need eyes?"
"Well you wouldn't have caught me like this if you could see or hunt like a normal wolf. And with this rain coming you won't be able to hear right."
Moonsong glared sightlessly at the strange rabbit before taking him in his jaws. The rabbit scrambled in between his teeth fearful that he had gone too far with the comment of helplessness. Moonsong dropped the rabbit above the hole before he jumped out himself. The rabbit started off in one direction but Moonsong just headed back towards where Wisp and Kida waited. They were probably agitated with how long he'd been gone by now and anxious to continue their conversation. "How cool was that?" he had adik say so he could continue on his way with almost no priorities. He wished that the rabbit would have been content with his life and leave but the rabbit was loyal and felt the need to describe everything that he passed in detail. Moonsong sighed and wondered how he had made a guide of a meal.

"For the last time rabbit, I only need to know what's in front of me and where it is. I couldn't care less what color or texture it is." He hissed at the rabbit after it had given a detailed description of the rock next to his foot. The rabbit was silent for only a moment before he went on talking. Whenever the rabbit wasn't talking about their surroundings he was telling Moonsong about his personal life and it was starting to get irritating. The headache he had lost during his sleep had now returned just by listening to this rabbit. He had already tried multiple times to drown out the rabbit with his conversation with Zaira and Shelbie but the infernal rain mad everything jumbled and unclear. What he had picked up from them along his journey was; amazing---,can do this; from Zaira. Even Adik couldn't actually see what it was she was doing so he played it safe and said "That's cool." He had no idea how it might sound for them but he stumbled on a low lying branch that the rabbit failed to point out.
"Have you forgotten why your still alive?" he asked stopping to turn towards where the rabbit hopped along beside him.
"You didn't say we would be heading towards wolves."
"Well where else did you expect me to go?" he thought wondering why the rabbit suddenly had the destination in mind. Taking a sniff he could smell the sodden scents of Wisp and Kida. "Well I guess we part ways here." he said taking a step towards Kida. He was halted when he bumped into the rabbit who had jumped in front of him. "Hold on. You haven't kept up with your side of the bargain," Moonsong must have shown confusion because the rabbit continued. "You said you would give me protection but you haven't protected me from anything. Therefore the deal is still in motion." Moonsong started to growl and tried again to walk forward only to be stopped again by the rabbit. The rabbit held his ground feeling he was stupid to think the wolf would keep a promise with a meal. They stood there in a deadlock until moonsong finally gave up and went to lie by a tree. The rabbit went over to sit by Moonsong and was met with a growl. The rabbit ignored him and nestled beside him white fur mixing with white fur. If this wolf hadn't killed him yet he probably wasn't going to so for the first time in history a rabbit could feel safe by a wolf. Moonsong sighed at the rabbit getting comfortable beside him and sent a brief message to Kida that he could relay their conversation again. After that he went back to seducing creatures into his jaws. He was able to coax a few mice into his jaws but with the rabbit lying against him he couldn't bring himself to summon and eat a rabbit right now.
