Description

ImageImage

name: Matt Sonny
age: 19
occupation: Teaches English overseas
orientation: Umm, undecided? He's Bisexual, he doesn't favor one gender over the other though.

Style: Matt wears graphic Tees, and form fitted pants, or straight legged. His style is more of an upscale-casual and dresses his best everyday. Usually he just leaves his red hair flat, but at times will style it. He wears mostly vans, and converse. On lazy days he wears basic running shoes. His clothes come from Japan mostly, or Europe.

Hates: Puppets, being alone
Phobias: Matt has a crushing fear of others hating him, to the point it almost drives him nuts. He also is afraid of heights.

Personality: Matt, despite his last name, is actually pretty tense and has a lot of un-used energy. Or nervous energy as his parents put it, he loves to run. He's very strong-willed, and very stubborn when it comes to the things he wants. Usually when he wants to do anything, it's on a simple whim and can go away after a while. His mood changes a lot, and whenever he thinks of the future he gets depressed and anxious. He admits to hate being tied-down, but fears that he'll never stay still long enough to meet someone. He cares deeply for people, even if they just meet. Usually he worries if others like him or not.

History: Matt was a really care-free boy and had a lot -a lot- of hobbies as a child. His parents enrolled him in swimming, karate, and boxing classes when he was little. His favorite games were hid-n-seek, and tag. In high-school, he started to buckle down, and good grades came easily. His passions leading to writing mostly and drawing. But his intense curiosity of other cultures made him take a job in teaching English. Getting a bachelors degree early since he took duel-credit, he immediately got a job and traveled to Japan.
His parents deciding he was somewhat of a workaholic -which was false, he just really loved the culture in Japan- they told him about a little destination spot. Using his curiosity against him, he got the break from the boss and looked forward to the summer he'd spend.

What you are looking for in a person: Someone caring, and who listens. A person who can balance out his energy, and yet keep up with him. Has to be faithful, and give attention or else Matt will feel unappreciated.

Letting out a small yawn, coffee coloured eyes taking in the scenery as he stepped off the docks. A backpack strap to him as he lugged his suitcase around, taking in a deep breath as he stepped onto the island. Not even a day yet and he missed work, maybe he really was a work-a-holic, he thought shaking his head. Making way for other tourists, he went towards a road that lead to a town. It had an old charm to it, the roads probably not even wide enough for two cars, he thought shifting his things. Looking at the small stores, his fingers brushed against the pamphlet he had recieved during the trip over. What was the name of the place anyway? For the life of him, he couldn't remember. A hand running through his dark red hair as he raised a brow. It seemed like there was going to be a lot of festivals. Taking interest in a few particular ones.
Flipping the paper over, he found a mapped out area of the place. Of course the housing had to be so far away, with a sigh he began to walk.

"What nice clothes," he mumbled trying not to stare at some of the accessories shown from the window. he didn't feel like being stared at just yet; his bright red hair took care of that enough. Stopping momentarily, he looked around, a stone trail probably a few more yards away. Rubbing his neck, he sighed heavily. "Aiyaa, if I have to walk to and from town this is really gonna suck," eyes catching as two people seemed to speak to each other.

Watching as the two interacted, Matt shifted his weight to his right foot. Just how many people were going to be here, he wondered walking towards them. Or more importantly to the rooms, he'd like to talk, really he did. But right now his arms were going numb, and if he didn't hurry soon he was sure they would fall off. Walking past the duo, he felt a little self conscious, hating the sound as the wheels scrapped against the rocky road towards the housing area.
Taking in the sight, he couldn't help but admire the place, and the town. It's been a while since he's gone out, and almost forgot what it was like to be in a place that was overcrowded with people. As a breeze blew the leaves, he inhaled deeply. He was going to have to get used to slowing down a bit, pace picking up he pulled out his ticket and saw a number on it. Looking around the houses, he located number twelve, he was just glad it was an even number before he went to drop off his stuff.

"This place better have WiFi," he grumbled looking around the area. Where to head first, he thought sitting down on the couch cautiously. Maybe the lake?

Placing the luggage near the sofa, Matt tapped his foot against the floor boards before taking a look at the clock. It was still fairly early, maybe he'd have time to take a look around town. That is after he ate. Getting up from the spot, he trotted his way towards the kitchen looking into the pantry, it seemed fully stocked with all sorts of goods. It was a little hard for him to get used to reading things that weren't in Japanese. Opening a cart of cookies, he took out two as he checked the fridge for a drink. Pulling out a juice pouch, he let out a sigh in content. It was nice to finally relax, and of course the place was beautiful. He'd have to call up his parents and thank them for telling him about the place.

Wiping the crumbs off his shirt, he began to check his phone for any missed calls or texts. He'd promise not to be so reliant on it, but he couldn't help but scroll through the contact lists. He was kinda sad not being able to see his friends, but that was the price for going on vacation. Placing the juice down, his hazel eyes wandered over to a calender that was hanging from the wall. He'd have fifty days to spend. Good thing there were so many festivals happening or he'd be bored out of his mind.

"Let's have a look see, what's on the tele," sitting down, Matt scrolled through the guide. A basic cable set up, he thought frowning turning the television off. He'd have to unpack sooner or later, but he was so lazy right now. Running a hand through his hair, he got up and took his laptop from the suite case and plugged it into the wall. He'd at least play StarCraft to pass the time by until it was night time. He wasn't really sure if the shops were open, but he absolutely loved night time shopping.

Matt's eyes narrowed at the computer screen, squinting under the glare of the sun he tried to concentrate on the game he was playing. Murky hazel eyes roaming over the screen, he head the faint click of the door opening. Freezing, he looked up to see someone set their bags. More importantly, it was a girl. Which was fine to have as a roommate, but maybe just a bit awkward. Closing the laptop, his eyes turned towards her. He could see the slightest hint of annoyence on her face, she was probably not loving the arrangement right now.

"Yeah, I'm your roommate. My names Matt," eyes wandering towards the television, he tried to steady his beating heart. He wasn't to good with talking to strangers, obviously working day-and-night having taken a toll on his social skills. "What's your name?" He asked casually, combing a hand through his hair. Hopefully the girl wouldn't get a bad idea of him just because of the colour. He wouldn't blame her though, it was a little unnatural. Maybe he should dye it a dark brown this time? Foot rapping against the floorboard, he tried to think of something to say once the young woman told him her name.

Shifting on the sofa, Matt looked at the television. The news was on, how lovely, he thought sarcastically rolling his eyes. The young woman introducing herself as Ellery, which was weird it was pretty cool though. Unique, not to outlandish but he'd probably call her Elle since it didn't sound so foreign to him. Plus he didn't want to mess up the pronunciation with his Japanese accent, which only came out when he either tried to talk fast or pronounce a word he wasn't quite comfortable with. "Umm...it's nice to meet you Ellery," saying the name slowly so he didn't mess it up.
"Since we're roommates, I guess we should get to know each other better."

Re-lacing his converse, he tried not to stare into the girl's eyes. They were a unique colour and almost resembled wheels. Matt absolutely detested his eye's, they were a murky hazel with copper flecks. The outside a weird dark green, the only time his eyes changed into a nicer colour was with certain lighting and when he was mad. "I worked over-seas, teaching English," which always earned a gasp from a few people.
He was a little to young to teach English, you really didn't even need a degree, but it wouldn't hurt. One thing he loved about it was experiencing another culture. "You?"

Matt's eyes visibly widened at all the languages she listed, the only ones he could speak fluent and read were Japanese and English. Although the latter was a given, he knew how to speak French as well, only because his high-school made him take two language courses because it was mandatory. He could read it fluently, but when someone spoke it he had to dissect the sentence and break it down to English. So he wasn't to comfortable when speaking it. "Wow, you're a pretty busy woman," he said sheepishly. He's traveled to Europe once or twice, on a club trip actually. It was a nice way to get to know another culture, but you could never stay long.

"So what kind of stories do you write? In you free time that is?" He was never one to pry, so if she didn't wish to speak about it he would drop the subject. He was a writer, but of course his stories lacked some structure, and it wouldn't hurt to expand his vocabulary. "I prefer something on the more realistic side," like the many J-drama's he's watched, "something sad and humorous at times." Matt stated smiling lightly.
Green eyes wandering to the violin, he sucked the inside of his cheek. He could play the violin, the thing was though he couldn't read sheet music. Which in a way itself was odd, he just tries to match the notes and hopefully it works out well. Which most of the time it does. He wasn't to keen on playing for others though, because he got embarrassed to easily. Even with his artwork, no one can see him work on it, only showing the finished product. Having someone constantly try and correct you when even they can't do any better really get's on your nerves.

Matt nodded as Ellery explained all the languages she knew, so she could probably speak it, albeit, broken sentences. It was still quite impressive in his book. The Spanish teacher she had though sounded like she was a little out there. As she continued to explain what she wrote about, he rose a brow at the domestic violence. It piqued his interest, but he wasn't so into sadness and drama like that. When he was little, Matt had a thing for being a little sensitive. He still is, some of his co-workers even seeing him shed a few tears before. That was a different story though, he thought getting rid of the memories.

Tapping his chin, Matt furrowed his eyebrows. "Well, I work in Yokohama currently. It's a really large city. And it's pretty close to Tokyo, I really love to visit Minato Mirai 21. It's this huge futuristic harbor and has this huge Ferris Wheel where you can see everything," as if to accentuation it, Matt threw his hands up. A big smile lighting up his face, "It's so beautiful there. Man, I already miss the place," laughing sheepishly, he turned his gaze out the window. The sun was starting to set, "I haven't been to any other places, but I intend to going to Seoul next once I'm done in Japan."

Letting his gummy smile fall, his eyes looked toward the door, "Hey, do you want to explore the town?"

"Natural disasters, huh?" Matt said wracking his brain for answers. "Sure, there are things like that; however, the place I work for makes sure were situated in a fairly ermm....," what was the word he was looking for? "Safe place I guess." Letting it go with a shrug, he got up from the couch and walked towards her. Only now did he see that he was a few inches taller than her, which he was relieved to find out because his height was one thing that always got him self-conscious about. He didn't want to be a giant, but he didn't like being to short. Since it was pretty stereotypical for others to think all Asians were short.

"Great, let's get going," staring at his attire, Matt saw that he was dressed a little to well. He never wore just casual clothes though, since he was somewhat obsessed over clothes. Wearing denim, form fitted pants, a black and white stripped shirt with a nice vest. Tapping his black converse against the floorboards, his pale hand reached out and held the door open waiting for Ellery to go first. "I wonder what the shops are like? They all looked so cool."

"Great, let's had out!" Closing the door behind her, Matt locked it. It's not like he doesn't trust the other people here, but it didn't hurt to be careful. As the two made the trek down the path towards the village, Matt realized just how long it was. Finally spotting a few shops in sight, he had a bounce in his step as the two finally entered the area. Sure, the scenery around them was probably something to admire too but right now he was to enamored with the shops. People walking down the street, the fresh air, and timely feel it it. It was amazing how not crowded it was. At least by his standards.

"Oh, where should we go first?" Eyes lighting up, he stopped by a few clothing shops, he was really big on clothes. Was it a crime to dress your best? He didn't see anything wrong with it, walking back to Ellery, he couldn't help but smile brightly. "There are so many cool shops~ I wish we could visit them all," he said jokingly. Taking in a deep breath to try and settle his nerves, his eyes roamed over a corner shop, "You should pick, I'm terrible at deciding," laughing sheepishly.

He wasn't even self-conscious about the stares he was getting, most likely due to his bright red hair. At least if he was lost a friend could easily spot him in a crowd.

Walking inside the store, Ellery finally letting go of his wrist he rubbed the area she touched. Matt wasn't the touching type, in fact he hated the way the feeling lingered. Even his parents had issues when greeting him, not letting them hug him for more than three seconds. Eyes wandering over the counter, the man behind smiled at him. "Haven't seen you two here, looking around the island I see."

Smiling politely, Matt nodded. "Yeah, you have a lot of interesting things," he said tapping a glass case. Small music boxes being held, and porcelain dolls staring at him through dusty eyes. He wasn't to keen on antiquing, looking back towards the front door, he saw a few pamphlets. Leafing through them his eyes gazed over to an event going to be held soon, not counting today, it was in fourteen days. "A firefly festival will be held," the man stated. Nodding Matt let his fiery hair draw in his line of sight, head bowed as he strained to read under the sunlight.

"Sounds interesting," going back to Ellery, he reached for an old timely looking doll. Cheeks a rosy red, and black hair holding a light sheen of dust, "Did you find anything?" Letting other people pass by, he tried not to bump into one of the shelves.

Matt watched as Ellery smiled, although it didn't quite reach her eyes he didn't question it. Opening the door, the sweet smell of baked goods entered his nose. Hopefully they'd have something that he liked, he wasn't a fan of anything to sweet or anything having to much icing on it. "What are my favorite things?" He repeated. There was a lot he liked to do, but some he wasn't to dedicated to. Like his job, he was a little to dedicated, but he was sure his bosses didn't mind that.

"Let's see....I like sweets, drawing, the colour purple, and running." Matt was a huge runner, a star in his high-school track team and a decent jumper. Although he wasn't sure if he could jump hurdles anymore, but he was a fast runner. "What about you," he questioned back taking a seat near a window. Seeing some couples walk in, he couldn't help but smile. Then again he usually was seen with a smile so it was nothing new.

"That's cool," Matt stated casually as he shifted in the seat. The plastic upholstery making his shirt stick with static, much to his dislike. Picking up the menu, he flipped through the pages unsure of what to get. Everything looked so good, or sounded good he couldn't help but wet his dry lips. It was like the island was unreal, and was a dream getaway. As his hazel eyes shifted away from the menu, he took a glance around the area. The sound of couples busily chatting away filling the silence, and even some kids had came in to get sweets.

"What to get what to get....," Trailing off, a girl with a frilly uniform came up, the bright colours hurting his eyesight.

"Are you two read to order," she stated casually, tapping the pen on the notepad. Taking one last final glance, Matt nodded. "I'll have a slice of strawberry cake," he informed the girl putting the menu down with a smile.

Watching as the waiter left, Matt couldn't help but admire how the girl looked. She looked like someone who just jumped out of a manga, although he kinda detested all the typical stereotypes. The place was still nice, maybe tone down the pink though. Smoothing out any stray hairs, he took a glance out the window. The sun was starting to set, soon he'd probably go back, or not depending if Ellery wanted to go too. He really didn't want to walk the long road alone, even though they didn't say anything.

I'm already feeling a little homesick, he thought looking down at the table sadly. Sighing, he looked out the window squinting through the light, "So, is there anything I should know about you...since we are going to be roommates anyway...," he trailed off, hazel eyes darting around the room.

"Me?" Matt repeated more for his sake than anything. Tapping his chin in thought, he crinkled his nose before the waiter from before came by. Setting the plates down with the receit, he smiled kindly before turning his attention back to Ellery. "Umm...there's not a lot to say. I stay up late though," doing what, he really didn't feel like saying, "and I take really long showers. So sorry," he said sheepishly.
His father always scolded him about using the hot water, but Matt was always to tired when he finally did take a shower so he would sometimes just stay in there slightly daze.

"What else? Hmmm, that's pretty much it. Say, after we're done why don't we head back," he suggested taking a small bite out of the cake. It would take some time because he did take small bites. Unless he really liked the food. One thing being he was a little to careless with his health, and nutrition.

Jumping back slightly, Matt put his hands up in defense. "Easy, I just finished first that's all....so you must really love the Violin." Stating it more for his sake than anything, leaning against his elbow, he slowly got up stretching. A yawn escaping his mouth. It must be nice to have a hobby, he really didn't have one since his interests shifted quite fast. A jack of all trades, but a master of nothing was what his mother would always say.

"Well, better head out now." Dusting off his pants, he said a small goodbye as he waited for Ellery.

Matt couldn't help but feel a little nervous as Ellery commented on how protective she was over her violin. It wasn't like you couldn't just get another replacement, but to him trivial things like intrusments really held no special place in his heart. Nodding, the two started to walk out of the town, the lake would probably be very nice at this time, but he was tired. Even though they didn't get to do much, the jet lag he was feeling was tremendous. A little afraid he might just pass out right then and there.

"It seems nice...," hearing the small comment, he turned towards the woman nodding.

"Yeah, the lake does sound nice....," he stated softly. "Tell me if you're going though, because I don't want to have to worry where my roommate will be," he said half-jokingly.

Nodding in Ellery's direction, Matt stayed on the trail going to where the housings were. Quickly finding their house, he fished out his key from his pockets. Missing the lock quite a few times, he sighed heavily as he went in. Removing his shoes, Matt strayed towards the kitchen looking at the assortment of snacks, snacks, not food. Heaving, he quickly got out a pot and looked in the cabinet. Thank god there was instant ramen, heating the water he watched as the noddles boiled. Looking towards where Ellery's luggage was, he sighed moving it towards the door.
Sitting down on the couch, he turned on the T.V. searching for a show. Finally settling down, he looked towards the pamphlet he had gotten. There was a festival later today? He thought sighing, maybe he'd go......putting his feet up, he wrinkled his nose as the couple on the T.V. started to kiss. It was just his luck most of the shows were dramas.

Placing the bowl down, Matt let out a long yawn before stretching his back. Looking over to his suitcase, he let out a long sigh before heaving it up along with his backpack. Going up a flight of stairs, he quickly chose the first room towards the left. Not really interested in what the room looked like, he placed the items down on the bed. Flopping down, he let his feet hang off. This place was almost to good to be true, except maybe for the fact his roommate seemed to be the opposite of him.
Letting out another sigh for what seemed to be the umpteenth time, he opened up the bag. He might as well take a shower, and go to bed. Quickly finding the bathroom located on the first floor, he blinked a few times. Well, the bathroom was much bigger than the one he had in Japan. After a few minutes of washing, he put on his rather child-like pj's before looking at the clock. Hopefully Ellery won't make to much noise when she returns.

Tossing in his bed, Matt turned violently as he crashed toward the floor. The blankets fallowing after him. Letting out a groan of frustration, he heard the familiar voice of Ellery. Staring at the digital clock, he wipped the sleep from his eyes. She's been gone long, he thought going downstairs to get a glass of water.

"It's fine," Matt stated before grabbing a glass watching as the clear liquid filled it up. "You must have fallen asleep, huh?"

Matt waved his hand, "No it's fine, I just.......woke up," avoiding the fact that he fell off the bed. Watching curiously as Ellery started to cook, he walked towards the living room. Well, he was wide-awake now and the beckoning of sleep got less powerful. "No thanks, I ate already."
Picking up the remote, he turned down the volume before switching to some weird cartoon. It was better than nothing, and news was out of the question.
