Aveline Mason

"Insanity is... I forget the rest."

0 · 211 views · located in A room

a character in “5ive -- The End”, as played by SlightlyInsane

Description

Image Full name: Aveline Zing Mason

Gender: Female

Age: 19

Personality: "I am absolutely normal- normal I say!" Nope, not even close. Although she is a young lady, Aveline still acts like a little kid. She likes getting her way and will throw a fit otherwise- or try to choke you to death. She is extremely temperamental and a complete wild card. There is never a guarantee with her- except for chaos. The teal haired devil will run her mouth for hours if you don't stop her. Her beliefs in mythical and supernatural creatures and her love of horror (courtesy of her brother) has not gotten her many friends. That being said, she is used to being on her own and being told that she is the bad guy.

She is determined, but can easily be influenced into doing something that sounds good to her or by being bribed. She has been called insane and annoying all of her life, both of which she denies. In her mind, she is completely normal and sweet. It's an honest wonder to her why everyone seems to become agitated and moody when she's around. Aveline is curious and likes to think that she is the Cheshire Cat of Wonderland. She loves to listen to and tell stories, especially fantastically unusual tales.

Appearance: Aveline is a rather small girl, standing at about 5'3". Though her natural hair color is brown, she has dyed her shoulder length hair teal. Her eyes are hazel. Her skin is pale, as she is descended from Irish and Scottish roots. She has a small and delicate frame, as she weighs about 117 lbs. Don't be fooled though, as she isn't completely defenseless. She loves to wear pretty dresses, though it doesn't seem she'll need to dress formally anytime soon.

As of the start of the roleplay, Aveline is wearing jeans, a plain green t-shirt, a dark pullover hoodie with a single pocket in the front, a pair of Hello Kitty socks, and teal converses.

Other: She absolutely loves ice cream and despises cookies. If she sees one, you better make sure there isn't a blow torch near by.

Short history: The natural brunette grew up in a small town in New York with her twin brother Xavier, who is older than she is. Her brother is extremely odd just like her, and has influenced her into thinking violence and killing are normal things and even acceptable at times. Her parents have had her tested, but doctors can't find much wrong with her other than being moody. Maybe it's the hormones. Aveline spent a short time in an asylum and was home-schooled after seventh grade when she tried to stab a classmate with a plastic fork. Since then, she hasn't gotten out much except for her therapy sessions or if her parents decided she could control herself in public.

So begins...

Aveline woke with a start and looked around. Where was she? A single lightbulb illuminated the space and she could hardly tell where she was. She heard voices, two males that she did not recognize. Alarmed, she stood up quickly but fell against her section of the wall almost instantly. Her head was pounding as if she'd stayed up too late or taken the wrong medicine.

Oh how she hated taking medicine! It wasn't as if she had a problem of any sort. She admitted that she could be kooky, but that did not mean that she needed to take pills every day. On the bright side though, the pills were colorful.

Aveline tried to stand again, this time with the help of the cool concrete wall. She could feel something around her ankle and moved her foot around a bit, twisting and turning it. The chain holding her rattled a bit as she did and she couldn't help but frown. "Am I in the asylum again?" she wondered aloud. "Or did I get arrested? What are you all here for?" She couldn't recall doing anything illegal, or really anything from within the past week. That was strange.

The insane girl blinked a few times, trying to adjust her eyes to the limited lighting. She found that there was a young man lying on the floor toward the middle of the room. Whether he was conscious or not would have to be determined later.

She pro, ceeded to look around for the source of the other voice. "Hello? Who are you?" she asked the darkness.

Bianca woke up. She didn't feel like she was in her nice warm bed though. Maybe she was in the car ride home from a shoot. She stretched out her arms but felt something cold and hard. That's when she freaked out. Her eyes burst open as the tried to feel where she was. She could see a little bit of light, slightly swinging, a few feet away. She couldn't tell if she was in a hallway or room. She felt two walls close to her, she was in a corner. She started to crawl, slowly, feeling the ground around her. Suddenly she felt something on her foot. She screamed and her voice echoed. She kept shaking her leg, hoping to be free of this mad maniac. But she soon realized, once she stopped jerking her leg around, that it wasn't a person, it was a shackle. She tried to find the buckle or anyway to get it off, but she was trapped. Slowly she started to hyperventilate. "This is a dream.." She mumbled. She then heard other voices. "Who's there...?" She asked.

Sandy opened her hazel eyes to the sound of an unfamiliar voice saying something along the lines of, "This is no dream."
Oh, well wasn't that just dandy.

Her head throbbed, and a groan escaped her lips. This must be what a hangover feels like, she thought, even though she had never taken alcohol in her life.
Well then again; Did she? She couldn't remember last night at all, and she knew that people could forget stuff when they were drunk. But she couldn't remember any of yesterday. What the fuck was happening to her?!

She sat up, and gave a small stretch, taking in the room. It was dark, but she could make out a few figures, and she assumed her eyes would soon adjust to the dark. The floor and walls were cold, and stone, as she had expected from the uncomfortable surface she had been lying on. She blinked, and the people came into view. Four others, as far as she could see. And from the look of it, she was the youngest. Well wasn't that all sunshine and rainbows?

The first one was a male, probably about sixteen or seventeen, not much older than herself. His hair was a dark brown, or at least, in this light. She assumed it was lighter in the sunlight. He was quite short, though still taller than Sand, and thin, too, though not scrawny.

The second was also male, this one quite a bit older than Sandy, probably late teens - early twenties. He had light brown hair, and from what she could see, was quite attractive. Though the angle of his head blocked her view of his face.

Thirdly came a female, and to be honest, Sandy wasn't sure what ae the girl was at all. She was short -- shorter than Sandy, but something abouther build made Sandy think of a higher number. But the thing that Sandy first noticed ws the girl's hair; a vivid blue. Who knows, maye she was hallucinating.

The fourh was also a girl, probably slightly older than Sandy, with long, dark brown hair, and extremely attractive. She reminded Sandy of the super models you see on magazines; Gorgeous, slim, and tall too.

And lastly came yours truly; Samantha Leovard. With her light brown hair tied back in a messy ponytail, and hazel eyes, she had a feeling she looked the worst of the bunch. Messy ponytail... that rang a bell... she had been late for something. School, of course.
And just like that, it was gone again.
She cursed silently into the darkness, before getting to her feet.

"Um, hi," she mumbled, most likely too low for anyone to hear. She started walking closer to the middle of the room.
"I'm Sa-"
At this very moment, she fell to the ground, tripping over the chain she had been unaware had been tied around her ankle. This time, she really cursed out loud.
"Fuck!" she yelled, as her knee skinned the hard surface. That's when she noticed it, in the middle of the room.
The gaping hole. A ucking hole.

"Woah.." she breathed, stepping back from the lethal pit. She wiped the sweat from her brow, just to realize it wasn't sweat. It was blood.
What the fuck was wrong with her?!

She looked over at the other members of her 'prison,' a suspicious yet panicked glance shot their way. She scrambled back to her original spot, heart pounding.

Voices began popping up all over. James let out a slightly irritated sigh as he decided what each was like. Obviously, the original speaker was a dullard, no help at all, and James disregarded him. The lighter voice, soft, told him that it was a female. An Asylum? So she was a crazy. Not as bad as captain dumbarse though, he decided. At least her first priority was to figure out where she was. The demanding voice of another female sounded, why was everyone so intent on seeing if others were about. Honestly, James would have preferred to be alone, without all these speakers. And she'd asked if this was a dream? Ha, who dreams up these kinds of things? Her mind had to be messed up if she believed her cranium was capable of such thoughts. At least captain dumbarse was intelligent to call her out on that. It wasn't enough to redeem him though.

And then was a soft voice, cut off with a loud curse. Now THAT was a way to introduce one's self. Of course, from the rattling of her chains and the sound of her footsteps, it sounded like she'd over stepped the boundaries of her chain. Silly girlie. She'd learned the hard way. There was also the sound of her head hitting the ground, a sharp crack coupled with a muffled thump.

James unfolded himself leisurely, stretching his feet out in front of him. He kept his countenance perfectly under control, and despite the thudding of his heart inside his ribcage, and the screeches of fear in his mind, he looked absolutely carefree. Except for his fingers. His index finger was extended, and his was slowly desecrating the skin of his finger pad with his other forefinger and thumb. He couldn't help it. Nervous tic, one could say.

James decided, from the proximity of the voices, that four was all that there would be. There wasn't room for more than that, he assumed. James was great at assuming things, so he stuck with the assumption like grease-fat on a pan. He waited a beat before speaking.

"Anyone like to explain where we are to me? Or at the very least, describe it? I'd like to know what my new home looks like, at the very least." He drawled, following it up with a a humorless bark of laughter. At the same time he paused in his masochistic tendencies to wave a hand in front of his face, cluing in anyone who was looking his way that he was blind. Unless they were all blind too. Which would be kind of ironic. But no, James decided. No matter what, he was going to be the only blind one. He was going to be special. Just like always.

"Ooh, I love chocolate! No wait, I hate it. Almost as much as I hate cookies. What kind of screwed up pills are you on?!" Aveline roared at the boy who had replied to the second girl's statement of this being a dream. If this was dream there would be ponies. And unless ponies could talk, this wasn't it. Wait! What if one of these people had a pony or ice cream. Hmm, maybe she should be nice to them...

She looked up as a second girl awoke. A crash later, she began cursing. "Whoa, somebody needs to be lectured!" She giggled, obnoxiously high pitched. "What would your mommy say about that? My mom would lock me in my room, but then my brother would come and save me because he's a dark prince. Once, we went to the circus and-" The teal haired crazy was cut off by a male voice.

Aveline raised her hand and started jumping up and down, her cuff bouncing off of her pale ankle. It would probably leave a bruise. "I can tell you Mr. Person!" she said excitably, then stopped bouncing. Her ankle was beginning to feel sore and the rattling of the chain was quite loud. She figured that nobody could stop her anyway. After all, she was pretty dang awesome if she did say so herself.

"We are in a dark room with pretzels on our ankles attacked to braided pretzels. There's a giant void to the underworld in the center and I think there are five people here. Four if you include yourself. From the looks of it, we are not in a good situation.

"Oh! And if anybody sees some hacksaws around, we can try chopping off our feet. I saw that in a movie once. Get it? Saw, saw..." Aveline began laughing again, not quite as high pitched and annoying as last time but still in an irritable fashion nonetheless.

She sat down, relaxing against the wall. It was nice and cool- like ice cream. The foolish girl had no idea that James was blind, or the identities and thoughts of those around her. To her, it was all just a big game.

"Nope. If this was a dream then I'd be sliding down a giant chocolate waterfall. This is no dream." Bianca tried to look around her. She felt her pockets, no phone. She wanted to pull out her pocket mirror and check her make up, but it seemed as if the only belongings she had, were her clothes. She started to brush her fingers through her hair, trying to untangle her bed head knots. "I'm Sa-.... FUCK!" She heard a girl. The girl sounded sweet, but then blew out an f-bomb. She looked over to where the voice had come from, but by now she couldn't tell. All the voices seemed to be coming from everywhere. She stayed curled up in a ball in her corner, just listening.

"Anyone like to explain where we are to me? Or at the very least, describe it? I'd like to know what my new home looks like, at the very least." At the same time the guy paused in his masochistic tendencies to wave a hand in front of his face, cluing in anyone who was looking his way that he was blind. Bianca was still trying to adjust her eyes to the darkness and was looking at the ceilings. "We are in a dark room with pretzels on our ankles attacked to braided pretzels. There's a giant void to the underworld in the center and I think there are five people here. Four if you include yourself. From the looks of it, we are not in a good situation. Oh! And if anybody sees some hacksaws around, we can try chopping off our feet. I saw that in a movie once. Get it? Saw, saw..." Bianca slightly laughed. More of a sympathy laugh. It was nice that she was trying to make this situation seem less horrid, but this girl was not her type. In the sense that she would never hang out or even talk to a girl this... cheerful.

"Well uhm, this place is pretty.....rocky I think. It's dark and....oh just look for yourself." Another male voice said. She was going to make a snarky comment but decided she didn't need to talk unless it was necessary. She could tell the difference between all the voices now too. Though she was still expecting to be woken up by her mother any second now. "And by dream.... I meant nightmare..." she mumbled. She felt the chains on her foot again and decided to stand up. Reaching her hands high while she got up, she couldn't feel the ceiling. She started to feel the walls, they were cold. "I'm going to take initiative here. I honestly don't care who you guys are. All I want is to get out and go home." She explained. She tried to look down at the faces but still couldn't focus very well. She did however notice a certain person. She was guessing he was the closest person to herself. He had brown hair, well she wasn't sure, and he seemed her age. "I know we are all shackled, and if you haven't checked, you'll find out soon enough. I want everyone to get up and feel the walls around them. If you are in a corner say so. We all got in here somehow, there has to be a door or something..." She started touching the wall and trying to find any sign of an entry source.

These people were no help. James's tearing at his finger pads became more insistent, as if his body was trying to tell him to acknowledge the growing fear in his belly. He refused though. He wasn't going to let the fear control him. But at least Madame Wacko, as he was coming to think of the cheerfully nonsensical voice as, had let him know that there were in fact, five people in the room, including himself. He was right. Not that he'd expected different, really. Her sad attempt at a joke did manage to force a laugh from his throat, it was ironically macabre, a sweet little voice speaking of hacksaws and the mutilation of limbs. Of course, even if it came to that, James decided that he would prefer to keep his limb and stay trapped rather than escape with a bloody stump instead of a foot. He liked his limbs where they were. And he'd never destroyed bone before, he wasn't going to start now. Flesh wounds were fine with him.

And the other male voice spoke. Captain Dumbarse. Oh, that boy didn't know how to keep his stupid from leaking out, evidently. His words made James's hands curl up into fists, but he kept himself quiet. He did have some couth when it came to such situations. No much, but a bit. A smidgen. A sliver.

The sandy haired boy's spine arched slightly, he was trying to find a comfortable position, the stones were unforgiving, not giving him a break in the slightest. He heard the voice that had asked if this was a dream again. She seemed as if she wanted to take charge. Lady Bossy, then, James decided. He had three out of his four companions named. The girl who'd whacked her head on the ground hadn't spoken enough for James to get a good name for her, but Missus Klutz seemed to be at the top of the running at the moment.

Lady Bossy instructed them to search the walls for a way out. James decided that he would not comply, and instead curled his knees back up to his chest, wrapped his arms around them, and settled his chin down in the dip between his kneecaps. He'd be no help in a search, so it was best to let them perform it without him. And he wasn't about to do anything some stranger told him too, even if it was a matter of life or death. Even though it didn't seem all that dire. So they were in a strange room. So? James didn't even feel vaguely hungry at the moment. It seemed to him that thew only threat at the moment was from the other occupants of the room, and they all seemed too stupid or too soft to be able to try anything. Of course, the grate had spooked him a bit, with its slime. James's brain insisted that it was blood, but the boy refused to believe that. Blood would mean that the situation was extremely dire, and James wasn't even going to let his mind stray into that territory of thought.

The blue-silver eyes slid shut, and James huffed a soft sigh. Perhaps he'd go back to sleep. It was a very slim chance though, if these other people didn't shut up first.

"Anyone like to explain where we are to me? Or at the very least, describe it? I'd like to know what my new home looks like, at the very least."
It was a male, but Sandy wasn't bothered to find oit which one owned the voice. Before she could input her say, the blue haired girl spoke out;
"We are in a dark room with pretzels on our ankles attacked to braided pretzels. There's a giant void to the underworld in the center and I think there are five people here. Four if you include yourself. From the looks of it, we are not in a good situation. Oh! And if anybody sees some hacksaws around, we can try chopping off our feet. I saw that in a movie once. Get it? Saw, saw..."
Sandy grinned, even in their current... predicament. She knew immediately she would like this girl; She seemed childish, and mildly eccentric. She sounded all-around fun, from Sandy's point of view. She heard the laugh of a female, a sort of sad and sympathetic one, before someone else spoke out.

"Well uhm, this place is pretty.....rocky I think. It's dark and....oh just look for yourself." Another male voice. She rolled her eyes. Oviously there was some reason why he couldn't. Blind, perhaps?

"Oh, and um, to continue my earlier comment...." Sandy mumbled, blushing. "I'm Samantha. Or Sandy. Or Sam. Or Anna. Or whatever else you want to call me." She shrugged, before adding in a quiet voice. "And sorry for the, uh, foul language. It's a habit, sort of..." she trailed off awkwardly, just as a girl stood up, and started to speak.

"I'm going to take initiative here. I honestly don't care who you guys are. All I want is to get out and go home. I know we are all shackled, and if you haven't checked, you'll find out soon enough. I want everyone to get up and feel the walls around them. If you are in a corner say so. We all got in here somehow, there has to be a door or something..."

Sandy blushed at her first sentence. She must have been referring to how Sandy had introduced herself. Oops.

But she had a point. There was obviously a door or window somewhere, unless...

"Wait," Sandy said, just as she had been feeling the wall. "What if it's impossible to escape? What if there is no doors or windows? What if we came in from-" she pointed towards the lethal looking pit in the middle of the room "-there?"

The thought was horrifying, but if it was true, then that meant they were stuck in here.
Oh, joy.

Aveline was glad that everybody seemed entertained by her horror movie reference. She ignored the male who liked chocolate, annoyed by him. He could go fall down that abyss in the center of their prison for all that she cared. She instantly assumed he liked cookies as well. Ha! He couldn't see the greatness in ice cream. As far as she was concerned, he wasn't worth listening to right now.

The girl snorted a bit as Bianca began speaking, ordering them to do this and that. One second she seemed terrified the next she was taking them all into battle. Who ever said that she was the Queen of Hearts? Then again, the teal haired girl though of herself as the Cheshire Cat. So what did that make everybody else? The third girl could be Alice, the idiot in the batch of insane beings. She obviously wasn't the best at keeping her mouth shut. Plus, she had no idea who she was. She was Sam and Sandy and Anna and Samantha. For now, she would just call her Alice. Or she could abbreviate her many names into one- A.S.S.S. Nope, she should probably stick with Alice.

So if multiple name girl was Alice, the one commanding them was the Queen of Hearts, and Aveline was the Cat, then that only left Mr. Chocolate and the one lying toward the middle of the room to her left. The one to her left whom she favored over the chocolate boy seemed very relaxed, as he hadn't said much else. So he was not the White Rabbit, always worried about running late. Hmm, perhaps he could be the Caterpillar? That left chocolate boy with... the Duchess!

Coming back to the real world, or as real as it was to her, Aveline began feeling around her limited space as the Queen had told them. "I'm in a corner," she commented, feeling some dried substance on the walls. Oh dear, had she missed tea?

It was then that Alice, aka Sam, Samantha, Anna, and Sandy spoke up. Her terrified voice and pointed finger, though barely visible to her from her vantage point. It made the crazy girl pause, aware that that could very well be a possibility. But if they had been dumped here, then who had chained them up? Interesting as she was, she knew that she would never chain herself up somewhere, let alone four strangers.

"Who brought us here?" she asked, suddenly serious. "If there is an entrance there is an exit. But I'm not sure that hole in the floor makes sense. I don't think we would all fit through there. Plus it looks pretty shady. She laughed again, going back to her childish self. "Does anybody have any tea?"

Bianca could tell they were annoyed. But she wanted out. She didn't want to be in here forever. then she realized something. What if she was in here forever? She wouldn't get to be the best super model, or grow up and have kids. She decided to get everyone's attention again. "Hey guys... I know I sound bossy but I want to get out of here. I hope you want out as much as I do. But I just want us all to get out, alive." She said calmly. She felt on the ground around her, it was wet? Immediately she thought it was pee, but smelt the air. She got the liquid on her fingers and held it in the light. Blood. She didn't freak out, she just got dizzy. Her blood? Or others blood? Either way she was never good with injuries.

She decided to analyze her fellow cell mates. There was the first girl. The one who was to her left, with crazy blue hair? The one who has been in an asylum and maybe arrested! She twitched in her corner thinking about that. She was cheery and slightly insane. The next was the second girl. The one with a potty mouth? Not that Bianca didn't swear now and then either. That girl seemed to be a nobody. Bianca was often good at telling where people might sit in the high school social hierarchy. Now to the guys. The one closest to her, the one who would rather be sliding down a chocolate river. He seemed nice... besides his snarky come backs. Then again, she enjoyed doing that too. And the last stranger was guy #2. He didn't say much. He just kind of looked like he was sleeping.

She realized, going over everyone's dialog, no one had found anything. No door. And she assumed, since she couldn't touch the ceiling, that there was no roof top exit. She looked at the hole in the floor. Is it dangerous... She figured maybe it was their way out. She crawled closer, dragging her chain with her. She wanted to look down, but she knew she'd fall. Then she'd be a dead body hanging by her foot. "Get it together B." She mumbled to herself. She couldn't help but start to mentally freak out. She is afraid of heights, and she could feel herself sweating. Sweating. Gross.

"Shut up!" Aveline roared at the chocolate boy/duchess. She was tired of hearing about his problems and was much more focused on her own. Like not having ice cream. It was a bit off from the concerns of the others about food and water, but essential the same thing. Wait, Mr. Chocolate had mentioned ice cream somewhere in that babble... Then again, he was the one acting like a five year old whereas she was perfectly sane.

She paused to listen to the Queen and the Caterpillar as they theorized about their prison. The rest of the group seemed to be in a hurry to get out of here. James's little speech in particular was very hopeful. No way out? Lovely! It was just what the group needed to hear at this point.

Walking forward, Aveline soon dived onto the floor to allow herself to reach the hole in the center of the room. She was about to speak when the light bulb hanging above the five suddenly brightened, allowing a full view of the room if one was quick enough to observe it all. Then again, it technically wasn't much.

Looking around, the teal haired girl could clearly see the blood and dirt coating the walls. It was almost as if somebody had been attempting to paint their little room before abandoning them here. The patterns ranged from splatters to scratches to even a little game of tic-tac-toe on the wall near where the Caterpillar (James) was. She laughed a bit, glancing around quickly just before the light dimmed back to normal.

After blinking a few times and reached out to touch the grate. She recoiled from the texture on it at first, but then reached out her pale hand again. Upon examining the substance on the grate, Aveline couldn't be sure what exactly it consisted of. Though the grate did look old and rusty, if it was continuous and fundamental in holding up the room, it wouldn't be giving way anytime soon.

"I haven't done anything wrong," she replied to the last question after a pause. "I'm not a criminal."

Bianca listened. She had always been good at listening but of coarse, preferred talking. "And more important than how, why are we here?" The first guy said. She shivered thinking about her last shoot. She was a big snob, asking for this and that. She was just in a bad mood. She couldn't help it. She didn't say anything though, but she could feel herself starting to cry. She didn't whimper or sob, just cried. Suddenly the light got super bright. She looked around a bit, but her make up was running. She could feel herself looking like a big hot mess. Or just a big mess. She noticed the blue haired girl and guy #1 looked a lot older than the rest of them. She could see the grate better, it looked like the only way out. She was just getting a glimpse of the guy next to her when the light dimmed again.

Admittedly, when Madame Wacko yelled at Captain Dumbarse, James's respect for the girl rose slightly. She had more wits about her than he'd first thought. Then next time she spoke she sounded much closer than she had been a couple moments before. She must be examining the grate, he thought. on an urge he leaned forward, towards her, his blind eyes searching for her. They didn't manage to land on her, they got a point a couple centimeters to the left of her, but it was close enough.

"Hey, um," He began, but he couldn't think of anything to address her as. "can you see down into the grate? Or is it too dark?" From the coolness of the air, James assumed that it was dark in the room. And the stones gave an air of darkness. If it had been tile he'd imagine a blindingly white room, but stone was sluggishly dark, of course. "And-" He cut himself off. Wait. She'd probably give him another crackpot answer like she had the last time. "Never mind." he mumbled with a frown, leaning back against the wall again, rubbing his face with a hand and sighing.

That's when he heard the crying. It was coming from Lady Bossy's area, he thought. he couldn't quite tell, but it did remind him that there was someone in the room that was at least sane enough to issue orders, even if he did refuse to follow them.

"You." He said, turning his head in her direction, "Um, girl," He winced slightly at his uneasy word choice and the quavery tone of voice. "Would you look down the grate and tell me if you can see anything, um, please?" He tried to phrase it as politely as possibly, but the effort in his voice was obvious. He was having trouble staying polite, as well as speaking, when all he really wanted to do was curl up in his corner and sleep until they were either saved or he died of dehydration. There was a certain push though, he wanted to know where it was that he was trapped, and no one would give him a proper answer. So his quest continued. "I would look myself, but..." His voice trailed off, and he frowned, unsure of why he'd added that. He didn't want to remind them of his weakness. That was counterproductive. To what, he didn't know. Perhaps retaining his own sanity. Because he was growing paranoid.

Without his permission, he began chewing obsessively and almost violently at his thumb nail, his teeth quickly running out of nail and moving on to the scar ridden skin of his finger pad, which promptly began bleeding slightly. That resulted in a dribble of the dark liquid fleeing down his chin, which made the boy jump, clapping a hand to his face as if he'd been stabbed in the jaw. He cursed softly to himself, at his fright, at his obsessive behavior. He needed to stop doing that. Then they'd know how weak he was, that he couldn't go an hour without destroying bits and pieces of himself, fingernails, patches of skin.

Aveline felt no remorse in yelling at Neon. He clearly deserved it. "And the moral of that is..." she began in a high pitched voice before trailing off. She finished the rest of the sentence in her head. Yelling at people solves everything? Sure, she would just go with that.

She turned looking at the girl to her right, the Queen. She hadn't said much in a bit, which seemed unlike her from what the group had experienced so far. From what Aveline had been able to glimpse of her cellmates, the Queen was a pretty, young brunette. If they ever got out of here, she would be sure to tell Bianca to dye her hair red. Heck, she'd even buy the girl a cute little crown with hearts.

It was then that the Caterpillar turned to her, asking about the grate. Dragging herself forward a bit more, she decided to lay herself right on the grate. Her neck and head rested on the rusty, slimy grate for a few moments as James cut himself off. He wanted something he could just ask for it. Before she could pursue the matter though, he turned to the girl across from him and next to her. Apparently she had started crying, crumbling under the pressure of the unknown. Aveline had no recollection of hearing somebody cry though and ignored it.

Looking down through the grate, she found that she could not see anything. It looked as if there was possibly a liquid at the bottom, or it could just be a well painted mural 100 feet down. She could not smell anything very distinct, leading her to believe that there was water down there. Aveline lifted herself from the grate, angling herself so that she wasn't blocking the light as much. The result wasn't much different. Sighing, she pushed herself up and sat on her knees, looking at James.

"Well Mr. Caterpillar, it doesn't look like much is down there. I think there might be some water, or I'm hallucinating. But I think I had my pills last night or three nights ago or whatever so I am about 57 percent sure on this." She smiled a bit, placing her hands on her hips in triumph. Score one for the Cheshire Cat! What game they were playing though was beyond her- she just liked winning.

She watched quietly as James aggravated the skin of his thumb, leading to blood. "Oooh, you better patch that up Cattie. If you don't the big, bad demons will come out and eat you. Of course, they might take a bit longer to get here." She beamed brightly at James, unaware of how this could possibly affect him. Some of the gunk on the grate was still on her face, though James of course could not see this.

Aveline glanced in the direction of Sam/Alice, who also hadn't said much. It seemed that she and Mr. Chocolate were the two chatty ones, while the other three were succumbing to the darkness. It would be troublesome to a regular person, but to the insane girl, it was still just a game. Good always won in the end anyway, right?

"No but seriously does anyone have any candy on them. It's been....well I can't tell time in here but I'm pretty sure there is some limit to how long I can survive without sugar. I don't want to drink that chocolate down there." She heard guy #1 say. She really needed to find names for these people. I mean, what if she spent her last hours with them and she didn't figure out their names. She was leaning against the wall again and as most people in the room, she had her knees pulled up to her chest. Suddenly she started to feel something getting her back wet. She scooted forward, in a sudden motion. She looked up at the walls and saw red liquid gliding down the wall. Not only this wall but all of them. She faintly screamed, but covered her mouth. She knew she had to be strong. Even if she wasn't, she'd never let anyone know that.

She thought of the time, when her family had been in the press. They had made articles on the "perfect" girl. And how she was too skinny. After that, rumors were started. Rumors of anorexia, bulimia and drugs. Of coarse, none of them were true. She thought about all her friends who ditched her because of her "problems". She denied all of the accusations, but no one believed her. She was alone, but her mother was always there for her. She began to sing her favorite lullaby. The one her mother always sang to her. "The angels are watching, watching over me. I need no blanket or candle, when the angels have a handle. Let the lights burn out because I see the golden eyes. Cover my eyes and cover my ears, I will not hear anymore lies."

Well, at least he knew that it was pretty much too dark to see down there, but that there might be water. Might. And it was no use anyway, because it obviously was too far down to be of any help. And who knew where it'd come from. Well, that was good enough, even though it had come from Madame Wacko. And captain Dumbarse even added a comment, that James, while he showed little regard for it, still paused to think on it for a moment. Chocolate river? That put him in mind of blood. Or perhaps he was simply feeling too macabre. He should just disregard everything the two told him. On the other hand, however, Lady Bossy seemed to be out of it, she hadn't responded to his words at all. Oh well. Who needed her anyway? She was just a mouth and- James's thoughts were cut short when the crazy girl spoke again. She'd noticed the blood, but she didn't seem too perturbed by it. Perhaps she thought this all a game. Yes, it was obvious she did by the cheer in her voice. Fah, James didn't believe in such things anyway.

The other boy's next words almost made James get up and throttle the boy. "I wish there were daemons down here." He mumbled to himself. "I'd much rather that then living another minute with you people." He withdrew for a few moment, licking his wound as the bleeding stopped. He wiped his chin off on the back of his arm and rubbed the raw surface of his thumb against the side of his face. It would have to do to keep him sane for now, the gentle pain of raw flesh pressured against another surface.

And then it happened. There was a faint ghost of a scream, and something wet and warm spread across his back. he heard a female scream, Lady Bossy by the sound of it, and he knew what the substance was. He froze, the liquid starting to run down over his front because he was so pressed against the bleeding wall. The boy bit his knuckles to muffle the hoarse wail of fear that escaped his lips. Blood. Blood. This wasn't fucking real, this wasn't fucking happening. he heard the girl start singing some random song, and for some reason it calmed him down slightly, enough that he could finally scramble away from the wall. it was too late for his clothes though, he was soaked through. Well, at least it's warm, he though, but instantly regretted it.

"What the fuck are they playing at?" He managed to choke out after he'd removed his fist from his mouth. little crescent moons marked the backs of his knuckles, and one of them was dribbling with blood of its own. He didn't know who they are, or exactly what it was he meant, but saying it relaxed him a bit more, as if this was some sort of game, that it wasn't entirely real. Wait, wasn't that a familiar sentiment.

After a horrifying moment, he realized something. He was turning into the other two.

Aveline suddenly leaped forward as far as she could to grab at Neon's throat. "Die, die, die, die, die!" she yelled, trying to choke him. She could barely reach him though considering the length of chain and the grate separating the two. The other two faded from her thoughts as she focused on attacking and killing this annoying little germ of a thing. He thought he knew about demons? Huh, she would show him!

The wall began to ooze blood, but her attention did not waver from her task. In the background Bianca's soft voice sang a haunting lullaby, furthering the oddness and horror of their current situation. It seemed as if they had all been thrown in here for somebody's personal horror movie.

Aveline stopped whining as soon as the Caterpillar spoke up. Or rather, he yelled at them, causing the mean words to bounce off the walls a few times before disintegrating into the darkness. She looked over at him, pouting a bit and crossing her arms. "There was no need for that Mr. Caterpillar," she growled, before noticing that he had started eating himself again. The crazy girl decided to add in her two cents on eating yourself in times of desperation. "You know, you should really stop that. If you eat yourself then what are we gonna eat when we get hungry? And besides, by the time you eat everything then what is your head going to do- just sit there?"

Her eyes lit up and she rushed towards him before feeling that familiar tug at her ankle. She sat down as best she could and looked at him. "If you eat your leg off you can move around and get us out of here! You should try it too," Aveline suggested, looking at the other boy too.

It was then that she noticed the three mysterious numbers on the wall. "3... 4... 3... I didn't think we were in school," she mumbled, going back to her corner. Looking at her own bloodied corner, she wondered if there was possibly anything else on her wall. But she wasn't in the mood to lose her fingernails. She spit on the wall and rubbed at it with her finger, trying to get some of the blood off.

Aveline was thrown backwards as the room shook, resulting in her land on her bum. "Ouch, what was that for?!" she yelled at the room, barely hearing the whispers surrounding her. Even somebody as mentally unstable as her was smart enough to know that they should escape. But unless somebody dropped a grenade launcher in here she had no idea how.

"....Man this place needs renovating."

"Great idea Duchess, why don't you tell that to whoever brought us here?" she snapped. She stood up and groaned a bit, wishing the stupid room wasn't so well, stupid. Frustrated that she was stuck with these two whack jobs, she started beating at the wall with her fists before realizing that she would probably bruise her hands as well. She paused and noticed a thin crack running through where she had been pounding. In fact, the whole room felt like it was closer to caving in on them. Forget about hordes of spiders- they needed to keep the ceiling from crushing them and spilling their brains into whatever water system was below.

"Let me out of here!" Aveline roared, sick and tired of this game. It was absolutely no fun at all. She had played games of Monopoly that were more entertaining than this, and she personally couldn't stand sitting around for hours going in a square.

But if this was a game, then who was the player? The pieces were obviously the original five, with two of the players and/or pieces being dismissed. Now only three pieces remained. The board was the room- a square. (Why was everything square? Couldn't they invent a triangular game?) The only problem was that the pieces did not have free range of the board and were forced to remain close to their own corner. However a square had four corners (or six, she couldn't remember), so somebody was left over. Was there supposed to be an uneven amount? Aveline had always been told that even numbers were better, and everyone complained about things being fair and equal.

"Odd," she mumbled to herself, sitting down facing the corner. She leaned forward and rested her head between the two walls, wondering what kind of game this was in the first place. It wasn't a very good one, especially since they didn't know why they were playing or how they'd been chosen. "Hello? Players, where are you?" she yelled, cringing slightly at the pitch and echo of her voice.

Aveline closed her eyes tightly, trying to block out Neon's childish yelling. Wasn't there anybody else who was normal in here? Oh, how she wished that her brother was here. He would know what to do and how to kill these two idiots. Actually, James wasn't bad it was only the chocolate loving boy that bothered her. She wanted very badly to choke him to death.

The distinct and all too familiar clanging of chains soon filled the room again. The noise caused her to turn and crawl towards Neon. "I am going to rip your throat out and feed to those freaking spiders!" she hissed, wishing her arms would be long enough to yank on his chain as he walked endlessly in circles. If that were possible, she would yank it with all of her strength until he was just within reach. Then she would strangle him, watching as he gasped for air and she wouldn't let go for any reason (unless the world was ending). And finally, he would go limp and she could use the chain to-

Her disturbing fantasies were interrupted by James, who seemed to be on the same page as her. For once, somebody had actually listened to her! Aveline's opinion of James instantly changed from acquaintance in a small dark room to friend in a small dark room. Her frown quickly turned into a smile as her focus went from the idiot to the ally.

Ignoring Neon once again, since one who did not know the difference between breaking bones and getting a cut was not to be acknowledged, she took James' chain. A normal person would ask if he was sure about this, if he really thought this would be worth it. But not Aveline. Without so much as a second thought, she began pulling on the chain as hard as she could. Nothing would stop her from helping her friend accomplish his task.
