Alex Xanders

"Game or not, I plan to have fun. Otherwise, what is the point in living?"

0 · 400 views · located in The World of Zaael

a character in “A Game of Magic: Defender”, as played by Mr. Baneling Squishy

Description

Name: Alex Xanders

Age: 10

Nicknames: Double X. But he simply prefers Alex.

Appearance: Image

History: Alex was born into your average, normal, everyday family. Oh who am I kidding, that is a myth! The truth is, his family was mostly normal, but they always pushed Alex to go past his limits. Which was probably because he kept passing those limits anyways. Alex was born with an unnaturally high amount of stamina, toughness, strength, senses, and speed. Not superhuman, but above average. Alex was always a bit...energetic. And weird. He was close to his great grandfather, before he died at one hundred and ten years old. HIs grandfather left him his journal, which he never lets anyone else look at, and his old medallion.

He got into both video games, and skateboarding, becoming proficient at both. So when he got a new game, he could not wait to try it out. It reminded him of his great grandfather's stories. However, this game....was a lot more then he was expecting.

Personality: Alex is a bit out there. He is a happy, fun loving, enjoy the trip kind of person. When faced with death and danger, he still believes in taking a good rest every so often and having fun along the way. This makes him rather unique, as it makes him resistant if nor immune to stress. This gives him an advantage, because he wont waste energy stressing out, at least not as much as others do. Still, Alex does worry. He just prefers to be a fun, energetic kid. Who now has magical powers.

Focus Items: A Yo Yo and a Skateboard.

Magic Styles: Tramsmutive and Combative

Magic Classes: Heat, Lightning, Pure, Force, Metal, and Enchantment.

Magic Spells:
Multi-Blade Yo-yo Attack: Alex transmutes his Yo-yo to create several Yo-Yos, all of which have blades. In this mode, he is capable of attacking multiple enemies at once. Or one enemy with multiple attacks.
MB Yo-YO Snare: Alex uses the multi-blade Yo-Yo to ensnare an enemy, preventing movement if successful.
Yo-Yo Movement: Alex can use Force Magic to control the Yo-Yo's direction while in mid air, as well as using the string and his own body.
Yo-Yo Zapper: Alex sends electricity through his Yo-Yo, giving anyone else who is touching it a painful surprise.
Yo-Yo Smash: The Yo-YO becomes ten times as dense and heavy, allowing it to smash through anything it gets thrown at that is not tough enough.
Yo-Yo Web: By causing various metal rods to emerge from the ground, Alex can then use his Yo-Yo to bend around all these rods and other objects to create a web, with him at the center. This allows him to access a sort of sensor array without sensor magic, as any non-flying attack he will sense coming..
Slateboard Shield: Alex transmutes his skateboard into a shield, capable of both protecting him and firing Heat Magic Combative attacks from the side facing the enemy. It also becomes much tougher.
Skateboard Morph: Alex can morph the Skateboard into any board he might need, and with enough magic, this includes a hoverboard.
Flight: Using Force Magic in combination with Enchantment Magic, he can cast push spells from his clothes that allow him tp dodge and even fly to a limited degree at incredible speeds.
Fireburst: He can make a blast of fire emit from his hand.

Player Number: 86

Sample Post/Writing Sample: (GM, so I don't need to. Plus, then people cant just copy mine) (Bah, got bored. Decided to write one to appease my own impatience. Also, for various GM reasons, I will likely have to show perspectives other then my own characters)

---------------------------
Alex blinked. A package? For him? It wasn't even labeled or anything, no return address or stamp or signature or anything. He picked it up, and shook it. It sounded like something important was inside. He shrugged, and took it inside. That was when he ran into his great grandfather, who was still alive and remarkably healthy for someone who was one hundred and ten years old. He noticed the package immediately. And while Alex did not know this yet, his Great Grandfather knew what was inside. Different packaging, but I can sense the magic inside. My great grandson has been chosen. But is this a gift, or did the enemy have a hand in this?

Alex's great grandfather, Cedar, got the same package one hundred years ago. Not exactly the same, and back then he did not know what it meant. But after having played the game himself, he knew what it meant for Alex. He wanted to warn Alex, but it would take months to explain everything when he had no context. His own sensory magic could tell this. And time was not on their side, even though the game would last months, possibly even years if the sides matched each other. Cedar knew Alex was about to be in a whole ton of danger, because within a minute, he would open that package, and begin playing the so called game. But, he of all people had seen what the enemy planned. The one hundred were not chosen lightly. And Alex would be more prepared then most, because Cedar had something he could do before Alex left to help his odds. And, Cedar could finally tell him the source of the family's incredible health and natural abilities....though natural might not be the right word.

Alex just looked at him. "Hey Cedar" he told him, as his great grandfather did not like being called such a long title. He didn't even look that old, either. "Whats with the look?"

Cedar smiled, and handed Alex two things. A journal, and a medallion. "Some presents. Got a package there?"

"Yeah, going to open it in my room and see what it is. Talk later!" Alex mentioned, taking both objects. He put on the medallion, and stuffed the journal into his backpack. As he ran upstairs, he took out his Yo-yo and brought his skateboard from the hall into his room.

Cedar was tempted to run up there and stop him, but two thoughts held him back. One was that he doubted that there was not a contingency to bringing any of the chosen to that world. And the second was that Alex reminded him of himself, and he figured that Alex would prefer to fight the coming evil then risk having it win and entering their world.

Alex took off his backpack, took his shoes and socks off, and then opened the package. It was some game called Magic: Defenders. He picked it up, and then he got this weird feeling. Suddenly, everything changed. He was standing in a room that looked like it was fully digital, almost like the inside of a computer. In front of him, was some sort of holographic display or magical projection, or both. It was some sort of selection screen. As he approached it, he found it responded to him. "Identity Confirmed: Alex Xanders. Player 86. Welcome to a game of Magic: Defenders. Please select two Magic Styles, and Six Magic Classes, from the list below. Take care in what you choose. Additionally, please choose two items from your room to be your Focus Objects, tools you can use to help focus your magic".

Alex then did something that surprised even the artificial voice into revealing it was an actual entity with a personality. Normally, this entity would never, ever reveal itself ever, and is prepared for nearly every response. But Alex caught it off guard with the following questions. "I have some questions. One, can I get some sandwiches before I start playing? Two, if I can choose two items from my room or on my person, can I also put my shoes and socks back on? And three, is this PvE or PvP?"

"Um...what? Sandwiches? Pv....umm, I mean..."

"You are not automated are you!" Alex accused.

"Listen, just shut up okay? No, you cant get the sandwiches. Yes, fine, you can put on your shoes and socks without them becoming focus items. And three, PvE. Though occasionally players do end up fighting each other, for some stupid reason, it is PvE. Now, what do you choose?"

Alex wasn't sure, this was a hard decision, but then it came to him. "I want my Skateboard and my Yo-Yo to be my focus objects. Also, I want Transmutive, Combative, though if I am right you should rename it to something more accurate, like Emitive, and my classes to be Force, Heat, Lightning, Enchantment, Steel, and Pure".

The voice was thrown off balance by his choice of Yo-YO and Skateboard, but it had to allow it. "Alright, now for a test. YOu lose, you die but you won't hinder the others. You win, and congratulations, you are now fighting to save both worlds. Have fun along the way! Goodbye!"

Suddenly, a trap door opened up under Alex, and he fell down. He landed in the middle of some sort of arena, with a few other arena's around allowing him to see what everyone else was doing. In front of him was some sort of half bull half man. He charged at him, but instead of moving, Alex raised a hand. This caught him off guard and stopped. "What the....this is supposed to be a test fight! What could you possibly want to know?"

"Your name. Mine is Alex Xanders. Also, to defeat you, do I have to kill you, or just disable you is good?" Alex mentioned as he touched the bottom of his shoe, as if checking for something. He then did the same to the other.

The creature mused. Didn't I fight another boy who asked me the same question who also had the last name of Xanders? Huh, they look similar too. "My name is Rozgul. And this arena is designed so that the test proctors, unlike the players, cannot be fatally killed. This is to help weed out who can stand up to the challenge, and who cannot. Because this will not be your last battle that your life depends on, nor you hardest!"

"Okay then" Alex said. Rozgul rushed towards him again, but before he could hit him, Alex was gone.

"What the...!" Rozgul shouted, when suddenly he felt something kick him right in the head. It hurt a lot, more then he expected from a boy as small as Alex. He backed up, and watched as Alex patted himself on each arm. This is definitely Cedar's blood. Asked the same damn question....but he is also just as stupid as Cedar was. Ignorant, too. I just have to outsmart him....and not let him formulate a strategy. But even then, natural skill could not have let him jump so high or move that fast...unless....

He remembered when Alex touched the bottom of each shoe. Rozgul realized now what he did. Alex might be blood family to Cedar, but he chose different styles for sure. Alex must have put a Combative Style Force based Enchantment on the bottom of each shoe. And then he realized he patted his arms too, and who knows where else when Rozgul was not looking. But learning a complicated spell so quickly? Alex seemed imbecilic, ignorant, and simple, but he came up with a strategy mid battle. He truly is his great grandfather's son.

"Alright boy, I figured out your tricks. But you wont get me with that again, and you cant win by dodging! I wont make it that easy! You are going to die here!" Rozgul's job was also to test if his opponent had the mentality to be a player. Only two people, including Cedar, had ever actually beaten him.

"Sounds good, like you will make this fun!"

The reaction through Rozgul off. His banter had no affect at all? Did Cedar clone himself or something? "What the hell! Aren't you listening?! You are going to die! At least with me you die a quick death! The enemy, they prefer to make you suffer a slow, long, painful death!"

"Good. Should make them easier to trick. That is always fun to do! And this is a game after all, you do keep refering us as players. And games are supposed to be fun! Now, are you going to really test me?" he said, as Rozgul saw the medallion and journal sticking out. He knew those were Cedar's focus objects, not Alex's, but it made him realize Alex had not used them yet. But, he was holding them, the Yo-Yo in the right hand, and the skateboard on the left. Alex had already figured out focus objects were, while not the only, often the best tools to use with magic? Now Rozgul knew not to hold back.

Rozgul charged, but then when he got close, instead of dodging like he expected, he raised the skateboard. Rozgul knew it would not be enough to.... "Transmute!"

Suddenly, the Skateboard was a super durable shield that faintly looked like a skateboard, which blocked his attack head on. Additionally, there was some sort of circle around an orange crystal in the center of the skateboard. Alex had transmuted it for attack and defense? Already? Then, the both of them looked at his Yo-Yo. "Transmute! Multi-Blade Yo-Yo! Skateshield! Meteor Blaster!"

The attack hit Rozgul straight on, knocking him back but not out. However, before he could attack again, three Yo-Yo's circled his legs, arms and upper body, and waist. He looked back over at Alex, who smiled. "I gotta say, best game yet! Yo-Yo Zapper!"

Rozgul tried to break free of the Yo-Yo's, but not only had he transmuted one Yo-YO into three, but they were made of a super condensed metal alloy string that prevented him from breaking it so easily, as well as allowing electricity to easily travel through it. As a result, the lightning attack fried him. Alex released him, causing him to fall to the ground. However, he started to get back up. "I wont make it..."

Then he noticed the original Yo-YO right above him. "Transmute! Super Enlarged Yo-Yo!"

The Yo-Yo grew giant, turned to a super heavy super dense metal, and crushed Rozgul. Alex smiled as he walked up to Rozgul's face, which barely avoided being crushed. "I win! That was fun though!"

Rozgul smiled. In truth, when he kicked me in the head, I think he knew what he was doing. He kicked me just in the right spot to where it would have normally crushed my through, and possibly even broken my neck. Technically, he won right there. But the enemy would not have that weakness, and I had to make sure it was not pure luck he passed. This game is expected to be the hardest yet. Well done....

"One question though" Alex mentioned, catching Rozgul off guard. "How do we win?"

"Collect enough Harmonized Crystals, defeat enough of the army to force them to retreat or be destroyed, or eliminate their leader. Have fun!"

Suddenly, Alex found himself standing in the center of a field. The sun was in the middle of the sky. He collapsed, his objects returning to normal and he laid in the field watching the sky. "This is going to be fun! Even if my life and the world is really on the line. That is what the box said anyways".

And watching from very afar, via the amulet, Cedar smiled. "I wish you luck Alex".
--------------------------------------------(Okay, I went a bit overboard. I suppose this might have actually been a bit too much for a post. But whatevs! Still really epic! Hopefully it holds off my impatience! xD)

Other: He carries around his great grandfather's old journal, and medallion.

(sorry its so late, people take too long some times. Granted, so do I, but still)

"Well, that was painful" Alex mentioned as he stood up. He could still tell everything was real, felt real, seemed real. Calling this a game was a poor choice really, but Alex planned to enjoy it none the less. Besides, having powers was going to be fun. As he dusted himself off and picked up his skateboard, he noticed he was on a road that seemed strange. The road itself was solid and smooth, so that cars and stuff if they existed here could go on it, only it was too small. Only one medium sized car could fit on it, so unless it was a really long one way road, that was unlikely.

However, that was not the only odd thing Alex noticed. The second was that old fashioned lamp posts were scattered along the road, seemingly oil burning and yet he could not see a way to open a single one. The third was that the road, while solid and smooth, had wires running down the middle of it. These three things made this road nothing like any road he knew of on Earth. And from this, he could make some deductions. And finally, it was all twisty and turny for a good bit around him, before going off into the distance in multiple locations

One: The road is unique from Earth's roads. It was not meant for travel on anything other then foot and small vehicles. Two: The road also is designed to have power, information, and/or communications through it. And three: The open, grassy fields around him were highly dangerous. If they were not, then the road could have been built straight. But something forced them to make it twist and turn. Therefore, there was something in the grass right now....hunting him.

And instead of being scared, it only got him more excited.
