Introduction

Danielle Leiber is your average high school girl- a small group of close friends, average grades, crushes, and several fears. On her friend's seventeenth birthday, she went in search of entertainment for the party and somehow, through an odd series of events, ended up purchasing a box. The box itself was about the size and shape of a Monopoly game. It was white, glossy, and there wasn't a single word, line, or figure printed on it. The boy who had sold it to her was indescribable- green eyes that were an impossible shade and although his hair was whiter than snow, his eyelashes were black.

At the party that evening the six friends met up and, munching on chips, they opened the box.

Inside the white container was a paper doll house. Having nothing better to do, the friends assembled it and made the little paper dolls inside it to look like themselves, as the instructions ordered. Next, they drew their worst fear on a square of paper, which they placed face down on the floor of various rooms in the paper house. After that, they placed the paper dolls named the "Shadow Man", the "Creeper", and the "Lurker" in the house.

Danielle was stunned- the so called "Shadow Man" looked exactly like the boy who had sold her the game! The Creeper looked very familiar, too. Hadn't the boy had a tattoo of a giant snake like that on his wrist? The Lurker, too, appeared familiar, and Danielle recalled seeing the bristling wolf on the boy's other wrist. Despite the sudden chill of foreboding that ran down her spine, Danielle bit her tongue and let her friends continue to follow the instructions.

Last, they followed the last step of the instructions- reading the oath. They dimmed the lights as they read the Oath of the Game.

"There is a Shadow World, like our own but different, existing alongside ours but never touching. Some people call it the world of dreams, but it is as real as anything else. Entering the Shadow Realm can be hazardous to your life. You must swear that you understand that."[/i]

The six friends swore their understanding and only Danielle seemed to notice the upside-down U with points that looked like horns painted on the inside of the box lid flash as if it were printed in red foil.

Following the next step of the instructions, they turned the first card in the deck that had been supplied.

"You have gathered with your friends in this room to begin the game."

The next card was turned.

"Each of you has a secret you would rather die than reveal."

One more card.

"You hear the sound of footsteps from one of the rooms above."

Someone frowned and commented that they were in a single story house. Someone else replied saying to remember that they were 'in' the doll house.

Someone went to put the card that had just been read back down when the sound of footsteps sounded above them. It was a quick light patter, like a child running on the floor. Someone claimed it was squirrels and flipped another card.

"You go to the door to get some air, but it seems to be stuck."

Seeing the rest of the groups frightened expressions, the person who read the last card sighed and went to open the door. "See?" they pulled on the handle of the sliding door, having made sure it was unlocked, but it didn't budge an inch.

Someone else took a card.

"None of the doors or windows in this house will open."

Another card.

"You hear a clock strike nine."

Danielle raised an eyebrow at that. "None of my clocks strike."

Suddenly the chimes rang out, clear and sweet. Danielle recognized the sound from the game store she had bought the game at- the chimes from the clock she couldn't see. The sound appeared to be coming from far above. It began to strike the hour.

One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine.

Then the wind came. It felt like they were trapped in a hurricane. The wind hurt- a real, physical pain that shook and blinded them, making them lose track of the room. It felt like hours passed, but it was only seconds before they fell unconscious.

They woke up on the floor in the doll house.

Danielle's eyes fluttered open and she slowly sat up. Her head was throbbing. Something weird had happened. She sat there for a few seconds, staring at an unfamiliar wall as she tried to remember what happened. Her and her friends were just about to play a game that she bought from an odd person at a rather odd game store. She looked around the room for her friends. Where were they? She stood up, head clearing a bit.

"You guys? Are you okay?" she asked, hoping they would all hear her and wake up.

Danielle was trying not to freak out as she looked around the room some more. It seemed familiar, but she couldn't exactly figure out where she had seen it before. Wether she had seen this place before or not, she still didn't understand how she got there.

Kira's eyelids fluttered open and she rubbed her head saying with a little laugh in her voice,
"Dude Danielle, you got us one stupid game."
She looked around and stopped rubbing her head but didn't take her hand off of it. The whole room was different,
"Uh, where are we?"
Were they trying to prank her or something, because this wasn't very funny unless she was dillusional right now, then she just felt stupid.
Getting up slowly she looked at the room.

When Roxie started waking up, she found herself on the ground. The seventeen year old wore a cream colored pheasant top with a jean skirt. She wore purple shade high heeled boots. She felt as if she was waking up after getting over the flu. Her body ached and she couldn't stopped shaking. It took her a moment to realize it was her nerve causing her to feel this way. It was as if she was a caged lion, threatened and backed into a corner with no way out. She gave a little whimper as she sat up and looked around. Only Danielle and Kira was sitting up. "What's going on?" She asked in a small voice.

Wrapping her arms around herself protectively, she got up and walked towards Danielle. Somehow she always made her feel better whenever she started to panic. She tried to quiet her need to throw herself at the glass door and try to escape. She just knew it would be a waste. There was no escape possibly.

"I don't like it here." The petite red head whispered, afraid someone would over hear them. She swayed, switching her weight between feet.

Danielle wrinkled her nose at Kira when she mentioned her bad game decision. The guy at the More Games store with the shockingly beautiful eyes had conviced her to buy it. She looked around the room and noticed Roxie waking up. The poor girl seemed even more scared than Danielle and Kira were. Danielle wrapped her arms around Roxie as she moved closer to her. That was wen she remembered exactly what happened before they started playing the game. The furniture looked exactly like the furnitue in the paper house. Danielle's heartbeat raced. There was no way that they could be in the paper house. I'm just imagining this. I had a rough day. My imaginaion is just going crazy from all the stress fro this week. Her thoughts kept her from totally freaking out. She had to stay calm for Roxie.

"I don't know where we are. Don't be scared, though. We'll figure it out soon." Danielle tried to reassure her friends, while mentally telling her the same thing.

Lilith's eyes slowly opened as she got up. "Did we seriously fall asleep?" she asked, as her eyes adjusted to her surroundings. "This isn't funny... Where are we?" she turned to face the other girls. Danielle was cradling Roxie in her arms and Kira was standing there, just as confused as she was. Her eyes widened "Where's Carma!?" she half screamed, half questioned. "Lili" she heard a muttered cry. "Carmen!" Lilth's eyes darted around the room, to where her sister had just gotten up. They both looked at eachother before Carmen ran into Lilith's arms. Being cradled by her sister, Carmen stated "We need to get out of here..."

Kira knew where they were the second she looked at the wall and started to smile and held a laugh.
"This. Is. Awesome." she said. She touched the room and, sure enough, it had a papery texture.
She sat on the couch, now fully relaxed. They shrunk! How cool is that?
"Where did you say you got this game again?" she asked. When this was over, she was going to take a visit the store. But, what were they supposed to do in this game anyways? They had just read the cards then they ended up in here. No instructions were read.

Ianto sat on one of the chairs in the room watching the humans wake up, one by one. He was already growing impatient with how slow they were to notice him. However, he was impressed with how fast they began to realize where they were.

"You want know where you are? You're in the game. You did agree to play, after all. You said you understood that everything here was real." he cast a lazy glance over the group. "I assume you remember the layout of the house, no? If you want back to your world, you'll have to get to the top, and I suggest you get there before dawn. Dawn, in case you're wondering, occurs at exactly 6:15. If you don't get there by then, well, I suppose we'll all be getting mighty acquainted. Also, before you ask- you may be wondering where a certain member of your par-tay," he pronounced the word like it was two, "is. Well, he's at the top. Just another little incentive for your trip up there. However, if you just want to try and make a deal with me now, there is one thing I will be willing to accept in exchange for the freedom of the rest of you." his luminescent green eyes settled on Danielle and he ran his fingers through his pure white hair.
"Now," he grinned, "let the Game begin. and remember, freedom is just an exchange away."

At that, he disappeared and then appeared at the top floor, where he looked down with a malevolent smile at the gagged and bound Cabel.

"You know, this wouldn't all be necessary if you stopped struggling and didn't talk so much." Cabel, Danielle's boyfriend, responded with muffled cries of anger and random thrashing as the human boy struggled to get free.

Danielle rolled her eyes as Kira seemed to be fascinated by what happened. She kept Roxie in her arms and looked for Cabel, her boyfriend, when a voice caught her attention. A guy with hair as white as snow and shocking green eyes appeared from a corner. She listened as she spoke, standing up in case she would have to do anything to defend herself or any of her friends. His wonderful green eyes rested on her as he mentioned a trade. She couldn't help staring back into his eyes. They seemed strangely familiar. She was pretty sure that if she had seen them before, there was no way she could forget them. Then it hit her. This was the guy from the More Games store. Before she could say anything, he disappeared. Slowly, she turned back to face the rest of the group. All she wanted was Cabel. Being in his arms always made her feel safe and without him, she felt weak and helpless.

"We have to get to the top. I remember that this place has three floors and a turret at the top. We have to get to the turret. We have to save Cabel." she said, hoping that she sounded stronger than she felt.

Danielle looked at everyone in the room to see if they were on the same page as her. The whole room didn't feel like the paper version that would be on her living room floor, it was all real.

Kira shrugged her shoulder than walked to the steps.
"Sure, I mean, what could happen on three flights? He gave us plenty of time too. This should be a breeze."
Or an adventure, she thought to herself. An awesome, epic adventure that would let her do something fun that isn't bad. But the only thing that made her hesitate was thefact that they had all written their worst fears on the cards, and she hadn't lied about hers. Why would he make it seem so easy without a catch? She tried to ignore the thought but even when she managed to think of something else it was still tugging at the edge of her mind. Rope. Small spaces. Fears. Three stories. Great.

Danielle smiled at Kira, admiring her confidence. She walked with her to the steps.

"Cabel should be at the top already, so all we have to do is go up 3 flights of stairs into the turret at the top, then we get to leave. It can't be that hard, right?" she asked.

Danielle knew better than to think that anything could ever be that easy, but it was the only thing that made her feel a bit more sure of herself. Everything she had ever known has changed. A game became their real life and if they didn't get to the top, they were stuck there forever. Either that, or she could trade her freedom to get all her friends and Cabel released. She wasn't going to give in yet. The game had just begun and they haven't even faced their first challenge. She headed up the first set of stairs. The hall was like that from The Haunted Mansion.

"Why would this hall look like the one from The Haunted Mansion?" she thought to herself.

Danielle felt a bit of relief that this wasn't turning out as bad as she thought. Before she knew it, she would be back home and everything would be back to normal. A world where board games didn't come to life. She noticed a door halfway down the hall on the left.

"Maybe there are things we can use to help us if we go through the rooms." she said aloud to nobody in particular.

She turned the knob and opened the door. It didn't seem too bad. She took a step in.

Kira shrugged, why would they need them? They were only going up three flights of stairs. When she looked in the hallway she couldn't help but laugh.
"Dude, seriously? He copied off the haunted mansion." Looking up at the ceiling she yelled,
"Hey! Creepy white haired guy! Try and be a little creative why don't ya!" she went to a door with a diamond doorknob that seemed a little loose, and opened the door.
"Great," she said.

The room itself was all dusty, but that wasn't the worst of it. There were boxes all around, crowding the room making it seem way smaller than it was. There was rope hanging off the banisters and dirty white clothes covering the majority of the boxes. She brushed one and dust came off on her finger, which she wiped off on her pants. Lifting the cloth she saw some of the boxes were big enough to fit a person in. She thought about the white haired man in one of them,, but smiled to herself. He could pop in, he didn't need to hide. She could be going to the bathroom and Pop!, there he would be. But that would be awkward and she doubted that even that creepy guy would do that. She went up to the doorframe but idn't leave the room and said,
"Hey Danielle! Is your room as old as mine?" She kicked at the floor and a shower of dust came up to prove her point.

Danielle gasped as she flung open the door and immeditaely slammed it shut. She walked up behind Kira.

"Um, my room? That room wasn't really made for me. I mean, it was, but it wasn't my biggest fear that I drew on the slip of paper." she said and looked around the room, trying to push the memory from her mind.

This room was full of boxes, clothes, and dust. She opened one of the boxes and frowned, disappointed that there was nothing inside it. It only kept her down for a second before she was smiling again.

"This box is big enough for me to lay in. I wonder what they are for." she said to Kira and laid down in the box to prove her point.

The box seemed to be the perfect length to fit her in it. Too perfect. She started to get suspicious when a lid slammed shut on top of it. Danielle screamed.

"Kira!" she yelled and punched the lid once, realizing that it wasn't going to give.

Kira heard the box shut and Danielle screaming and immediatley ran over to the box. She tried to open it but it wouldn't budge.
"Danielle!" she screamed.
She wanted to kick the box, but was afraid it might break and she would hurt Danielle.
"Uh, Danielle. I'm going to go get the others to help. Ok?" she said.
Not waiting for an answer, since all she heard was banging and screaming she ran towards the door but it slammed shut just as she go tot it. The door had been inches from her face! Se grabbed at the doorknob but when she pulled to open it it came out and fell to the floor, shattering. She heard the same on the other side of the door.
Crap.
"Hey, uh, scary creepy white haired dude? Can we go now?" she said to thin air. She was suddenly expecting him to just appear any moment and talk to her.
"Hey, Danielle? Not to frighten you anymore than you already are, but the door is broken." she said sort of in a joke like way so she wouldn't scream any louder.

Roxie was not liking this one bit. She remained quiet while the strange man then when everyone started going upstairs. She knew if she opened her mouth she would scream and start crying. She was so petrified she almost couldn't make herself follow them up the stairs. Taking a deep breathe, she prayed that she could be as strong as the others before she followed them up the stairs. She wasn't close enough to touch them but close enough to see them the whole way. Once the other's stepped onto the next landing, she hurried up the remainder of the stairs.

She peeked into Kira's room but didn't follow her in. If she could manage it she'd wait in the hallway. She noticed a flickering light and walked over to it. She was examining it when she hear Dani's screams. She turned and ran to the room but the door slammed right in her face. "Dani!!! Kira!!!" She shouted, pounding on the door. No matter which was she turned or how hard she tugged she couldn't get the door open.

Danielle stopped pounding on the lid of the box, realizing that it was pointless. Kira knew she was in there. As long as Kira was in the room with her, she would be fine. She took a deep breath and waited for something to happen. Danielle was already starting to feel calm again. It wasn't much longer before a bright light appeared in the lid of the box. She shielded her eyes and then peeked to see what it was. It clearly didn't appear to be the room anymore. Danielle extended her arm toward the light, waiting for the tips of her fingers to touch the top of the box, but it didn't. Her hand kept reaching up until she had to sit up to reach any farther. As she sat up, she looked around the new room she was in. It was completely white and she couldn't tell if it kept going on or if there were walls surrounding. She stood up and took a step out of the box.

"Hello?" she called out.

The room appeared to be empty. She wondered where Kira would be.

Kira had started to get used to the screaming when it stopped, which was strange.
"Danielle?"
No answer.
She ran over to the box and opened it, empty.
"Crap, Danielle!" she yelled. Looking around she saw no sign of Danielle.
But she did hear a rustling from the top of the room and looked up. There was nothing. She officially hated the man who called himself Lanto.
"Hey! Lanto, give Danielle back!" she yelled. "You can't have her, she's ours!"
Then she saw something out of the corner of her vision, it looked almost like a snake.

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

And so it seems that everyone but you and one other person has. I think this was a failed attempt mostly because some bits of the plane took off upside down.

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Oi! The twins seem to have dropped!

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Ah. Yesh, the schoolwork. I just sent you my plot. Don't worry about getting it done today. Getting a new rp up isn't more important than getting a post up to an already existing rp.

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Sorry, I just got six papers and a speaking quiz thrown at me, so I haven't gotten a chance to post with Ianto (note: that's an I, not an L!). I got two papers done today and I will post as soon as I have the chance. Oh, and tomorrow I have to edit Biz's plot. *poke*

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Yes! Right now I am stuck in some unopenable door and was pounding on it but some haven't even woken up yet! And Danielle, poor Danielle is somewhere, don't quite know but she is somewhere. Sparrowluver thank you for caring! :) But we need more posts because I really like this rp. It's A nice one and Kira doesn't deserve to die from lonelyness.

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

I think we need Ianto to do what he does best. That, and convince the others in this rp to post. Can't they at least react to something happening? Find a door? Something?

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Okay, but the room I had her enter...that was sort of her room. xD
Could they both get scared in there because I put all the things she would need in there: Rope, small spaces, oh and that thye were locked in. :)

Ianto? Hmm... Let's see.

Well, I'm fine with y'all coming up with ways to terrify your own characters, since you know better than I do what will scare them outta their wits. However, I'd like to pick who has the next nightmare. So, after Biz is done freaking her character out, it with be Kira's turn, Gezzy. So, something will happe, like they'll go out the door or something and be in the room with Kira's nightmare.

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Hey, I have a question...Do you want the white haired guy to be in the room when they get scared, do you want to control how we get scared, or do you want us to scare ourselves? I'm fine with any three.

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

:D I feel so loved!...Or hated. :[

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Just so you know, Gezzy, we're doing Kira's nightmare first.

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Or you can ask me. *does typical Biz grin* Enzy, I'm sure you can imagine the grin since you know me so well.

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

I'll be posting tomorrow- probably as soon as I get my darn book back from Biz so I can remember the outline of what I'm supposed to say! xD

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Alrighty, I made the first post. Sorry it took me so long to announce that I have done so.

Okay, well then...

1. I'm back!

2. I'm gonna change this so it's only six people since we have six characters. :)

3. Biz, do you wanna make the first post, since you have my book right now? They'll be just waking up in the paper house (all together though, not separated).

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Forensic_anthro went on a trip this weekend, so she probably won't be able to accept any other characters or post anything until Monday.

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

I posted my character! I hope I get in!

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Sounds good with me, Sparrow! I didn't specify the genders so that we could have whatever gender ratio we end up with. :)

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Could I reserve a female friend? I really love the idea. I bought the books today because I love L.J. Smith. I'll work on a character tomorrow unless you think you have too many girls.

Re: [OOC] A Game of Shadows

Accepted, Nova. :)

Sure, Jane. Sounds good with me!
