❂ A Moon Among Thieves ❂

❂ The Kamari: Backstory ❂
The Kamari started out as a small tribe that began thousands of years ago in the world of Assaila. The legend of the Kamari people stated that one day a sickly child was born into a poor family. She could not walk or speak and the parents of that child left her in the forest to perish. Seeing the helpless child too weak to even cry, the moon took pity and blessed the child. Her hair turned as white as the full moon on that night and her eyes red as sparkling ruby's and the child grew strong and fast. This is the story of how the Kamari people gained their natural ability to sprint and jump further and faster than other humans; Why their hair and eyes are the color that they are and how a Kamari women can only give birth on full moons. The story was passed down through the generations, but alas faded into nothing but a fairytale as the years passed and the tribe grew. As the race grew stronger the rest of the world began to recognize their power. Then one day, after years of debate, the leaders of the three great continents ordered the Kamari's destruction in fear of their strength. The Kamari were powerful and fought hard, but those against them were greater in number and after two years the Kamari race was announced to be extinct. However, a single child survived. Born on the last full moon before the war began, she remained hidden and away from the governments reach.

❂ The Present ❂

Image

It's been sixteen years since the Kamari's extinction was issued and the war ended and Assaila has all but forgotten about the race that the world extinguished. The three continents are more or less at peace and the world moves along as if the war never took place. There are some disputes between countries, crime occurs now and then, the poor are still treated as less important than the rich but life goes on as usual. Life would probably continue to go on too, until a trade ship carrying silk and other fine clothes to Histy is raided by a single person. There were no casualties, and only a few of the clothes were taken before the hooded figure dived into the ocean and disappeared. One sailor, however, managed to engage in a short-lived sword fight and spotted what was under the hood. According to the sailor it was a woman with white hair and red eyes.

At first the witness was called a liar, but the rumor soon spread throughout Assaila and it's continents until it reached the governments ears and then entered the halls of the three Leaders. Authorities now thicken throughout the larger cities and populated towns of the three continents, however no sign of the rumored white-haired woman has been spotted within the four months that have passed since her first appearance.

Image

❂ The World of Assaila ❂
Assaila is made up of three main continents(with islands here and there): Arith, Histy, and Vermellia, with the Artimus Sea dividing them. Each continent has it's own leader with smaller governments populating the towns and cities that reside within the continent. The atmosphere falls around the middle-ages mixed with a few steampunk similarities such as the creation of blimps, the variation of clothing and machine-powered factories. Most of the towns are the same with street venders and shops and all have there share of the rich, the middle-class and the homeless making their way through the ally's. Despite the similarities, however, each continent has it's own specialty and varying differences as well.

❂ The Three Continents ❂
________________________

- Arith -
To any who visit Arith it would seem as if the entire continent is nothing but a massive city with towers, pillars, and stairs in every direction. This is precisely what Arith is, aside from the few spaced-out areas that make room for farms and factories. It's the most populated with towns stacked on top of each other. The lower parts of most of the cities in Arith are home to many of the less-fortunate and the buildings are beginning to fall apart. However a rehabilitation program has recently begun to repair the broken parts of the many cities so construction work has become an every day thing to see.

Image

- Histy -
The most beautiful and richest continent of the three. Though there aren't many towns and very few cities, the ground is filled with rich soil and there are mountains and forests in every direction. Each town you come across is well-kept and clean. It's more of a tourist continent rather than a productive one, however, and the continent depends on the other two cities for cloth, food, and other goods that are distributed daily to reach Histy.

Image

- Vermellia -
Vermellia, although not the largest of the three continents, is respected as the most prosperous. It is a desert continent covered in sandy hills and dirt but the reefs that surround the port cities are flourishing with many species of fish in which Vermellia makes its profit from. There aren't many factories here and the majority of the people who live there are fisherman, but the people are strong from the hard work that they do. This continents cities, next to Arith, are major trading cities and most of the ships located in the harbors of Arith and Histy were built by Vermellian architects.

❂ Plot ❂

Image

It's only been four months since the search for the rumored Kamari began and there has been no other sign of her, however sightings of a hooded figure has been spotted a few times in Arith and has now moved to Vermellia. It's still not completely believable and many citizens of Assaila think it's just some hoax and the world is getting worked up about it for nothing. Well, it is definitely not a hoax. The Kamari is an 18-year-old named Tara Vemica. Why she's come out of hiding is simple: she's on the search with the idea that she can't possibly be the last of her tribe.

Tara will be played by me. As for the roles available for any who feel like joining, that is left up to your imagination. You could be the sailor who crossed swords with the Kamari, a fishermen in Vermellia, one of the less fortunate in Arith, a pirate, inventor, a soldier or even a detective in the midst of capturing the Kamari. Whatever you can come up with that you think will work well with the story. The point is to either be on the good side and sooner or later join up with Tara or you're on the governments side and despise the Kamari. If you have any ideas feel free to run it by me! I'm only going to be accepting so many characters with a maximum of eight. I need AT LEAST two characters who are against the Kamari so do consider that when coming up with a character.

Toggle Rules

1.) READ THE RULES!!

2.) First off, please read the entire intro page. I get it if you jump to asking for a reservation but before you make your character make sure you go over the entire page okay?

2.) NO GOD MODDING OR MARYSUES. I understand that my character, due to her race, is going to be a little stronger than most but she's still a human and has just as many weaknesses and disadvantages as anyone else would. She's not some crazy immoral and she can very easily be wounded.

3.) Reservations are allowed but they will only last 48 hours(two days). If you need more time just pm me and let me know. However if two days go by and I hear nothing from you then your reservation will be taken down.

4.) DEDICATION! If you know you're going to be unable to post after a week or a month then do not join. I need roleplayers who will be able to post AT LEAST once every few days.

5.) If you want to make a reservation then announce in the OOC. When you do tell me what your favorite book or series is so I'll know you read the rules. If you didn't read the rules that's okay because you're probably reading them right now.

6.) If you vanish on me for more than two weeks without an explanation then your character will be terminated. I will PM you after one week and if I get no reply within the next week then sorry you're character is dead now. However if you need to leave on short notice or you run into an emergency then announce it in the OOC so that everyone knows why you're gone and that you will be coming back shortly.

7.) This roleplay is PG-13. So some cussing is okay, a little gore is whatever and I'm all for relationships but no bedroom scenes. Please don't make me explain what PG-13 means.

8.) Posts must me AT LEAST one paragraph long. Be detailed and make sure you make it clear where you are and what your character is doing so we can avoid confusion. Use proper grammar and correct spelling as well. There is such a thing as spell check.

9.) If you're on the governments side and are against the Kamari then be bold about it! Have some fun embracing the evil side, yeah? Either you'll eventually take to the good side or you'll remain loyal to whatever reason you dislike them for. If you're gunna play a villain though, be a good one. ;3

10.) I AM THE CHOCOLATE GOD AND YOU WILL OBEY ME

11.) Just kidding I'm not that psycho. Not most of the time, at least. But if you want to do something that might make a big impact then pm me about your idea first or if you come up with something that might move the plot along or make the story more interesting.

12.) I know I said I'd accept a maximum of eight characters, but if all the character spots are taken but you have a good idea for a character that would work with the story and you really want to join then PM me about it and I might consider your idea if I like it. Otherwise, if there are spots being reserved, you can wait a few day to see if any of them get taken down.

13.) LAST BUT NOT LEAST! Stay active in the OOC and make sure you're checking for updates. If you're active in the OOC then I can see that you're actually interested in the rp. It's nice to be able to chat with everyone outside of the roleplay so everyone can be included.

14.) Okay one more rule. I may be adding more rules as we go along if I find it necessary. NOW ENJOY!~

Tara Vemica
Location: Vermellia - Port City

Image

A warm sun shone brightly in the clear azure sky, the only clouds to be seen were the grey mist of a storm billowing somewhere over the ocean, but it would be long before those clouds would reach the hot weather that the people of Vermellia had grown accustomed to. The smell of salt and fish brushed over the port city as the marketplace beckoned for visitors to take a look at what they have to sell. Vermellia was indeed a beautiful, lightly-colored city where even the lower class could find a decent place to eat and rest their heads. However the streets of Vermellia today were a bit louder than usual.

The stopping of many boots running among brick could be heard, as well as the muffled shouting of men in the street as they issued orders to each other. There was currently a chase being issued, as a man selling potatoes reported that a hooded figure had robbed him of multiple sacks and was seen spotted along the rooftops. The local authorities were now in pursuit.

β˜† β˜† β˜†

Tara leaned her back against the tall chimney, the brown hood shadowing her eyes as she scanned the streets. Maybe stealing three sacks of potatoes from one vender wasn't the best idea. In fact she probably didn't even need three, but for her it was better to have and not need than to need and not have. As to why she'd need three sacks of potatoes just to cross the desert, well, she was a big eater after all. Though potatoes may not be considered to be something vital...she probably should've went with water instead but it wasn't as if she'd ever crossed a desert before. There was always fresh water for her in the forest.

The adjusted the sack she held over her right shoulder and tightened her grip around the two she held in her left hand as she prepared to step out of the shade. It was mid-day now so she had no darkness to help hide her, but honestly Tara wasn't really worried. She was way too confident in her skills to wait for the safety of night to come out. Besides in her mind she wasn't about to treat herself like an outcast, even if she obviously was. If she wanted to come out during the day then no one would be able to tell her that it would be wiser to do otherwise. Of course Tara has never really been on the wise side.

She took in a small breath before making her move. She ran along the rooftops, her boots tapping loudly on the pale blue shingles that covered almost every building in Vermellia as she sprinted. She made a few swift leaps over the gaps between the buildings, grinning as she glanced at the street behind her. There were a few men pushing through the crowd and yelling. She'd clearly been spotted but she couldn't care less. It's not as if they'd ever be able to catch her anyway.

"They might as well give up!" She stated loudly to herself as she readied herself for another leap. However, in that instant, she felt her heel slip as a shingle came loose underneath her. With a surprised yelp she slid forward, falling right over the edge and into the alley below. She crashed, rather ungracefully, into an unorganized pile of woven basket. They splintered and crackled under her weight while the potatoes, now spilled from their sacks landed around her, a couple knocking her on the head as they did so. She let out a sigh, blowing the white bangs out of her eyes with a disappointed breath of air.

She came to a realization when she heard the shouting of the men pursuing her and she quickly picked herself up off the ground. She fell to her knees and begun picking up the vegetables, but they were all over the ground now and by the sound of the footprints on her tail she didn't have a lot of time. "B-but food, I need..errgh!" She reluctantly dropped what she had and, using the bricks that made of the walls of the alley, she leaped her way up the wall and back onto the rooftops.

"What a waste of perfectly good potatoes.." She mumbled with a frown as she continued to run along the rooftops. The shouting seemed to quiet now. They had probably stopped to examine the broken baskets for evidence or something. Tara never understood that sort of thing, really, so she had no idea how authority-business worked. After running for quite a while she took refuge in the bell tower at the center of the city. With no supplies to take with her, there was no point in trying to cross the desert today now. She couldn't exactly risk snatching any for the rest of the day either. She'd call it a night.

Location: Arith, a month ago..

He walked along the alley which he knew would lead him into where the dark and gloomy place he resided, he checked his pistols, knowing that they'd be full but checking anyways. Max smiled, and the bounty hunter opened the door to the shady tavern of 'The Raven's Cackle'. As the doors swung wide, the thugs looked at him... and oh how they feared him on sight. "Hello Raven's Cackle! I'm looking for a hooded figure!" He exclaimed over the ambience, yet funny thing is everybody jumped up to arms....

Well, they are all wearing hoods... he told himself. "Alright! I'd love all of you to be nice and co-operative and make a single straight line! I've got rumours of a High bounty being placed on somebody with a hood." Then they laughed, shaking their heads. "You won't find the man 'ere, boy." Said the Raven's owner, Three-eyed Jinh. "Now r'lax and get yerself a pint. I'll tell ye what ye want ta 'ear." He said, patting the counter infront of him.

Max sighed, another busted gig... He sat down on the stool, looking at Jinh. "Yer lookin' for tha' rumored Kamari? Aye, 'e be strange indeed... some say 'e be as fearless as the Reaper!" Jinh exclaimed and Max scoffed. "The 'Reaper'?!" He exclaimed as well, laughing. "Jinh, the Reaper isn't fearless, just smart." Jinh looked at Max, narrowing his eyes. "Says the man that's supposed to never fail a contract.... but failed to capture him... twice! Now let tha' Kamari go... I got t'is contract fer ya 'ere." Jinh called out for the whole tavern to hear and Max spit his drink as Jinh put a sheet of paper on the counter, the bounty hunter nodding. "Alright, you got me there you old fool. I'll check it out, but my first job is to get through with the Kamari.... the other one is if in a week, I won't see him." He said with a sigh of defeat. "Now, know of a location?" He asked. "Aye," Jinh said, "Last heard 'e be in the city of Vermellia."

Max sighed, paying and downing his drink. "Thanks Jinh." He said, walking off and out the tavern... he now needed a ship.

Location: Vermillia, present.

Max jumped down, paying the captain of the 'Gray Knight' with a rather large sack of gold. "Thanks for the trip." He said to the merchant, and the merchant nodded stupidly, still looking at the sack of gold. Max walked the streets, looking for anything that could help him. He sighed, not finding much leads... a dead trail. He had his hood up, is crazy hair not showing. Though they were quite dirty from not having washed in a week... "Might as well get some place to wash and start asking people for information...." He said, walking over to the nearest inn and paying a small bit of coin for a nice room.

He was done bathing, and then he heard it... the cries of guardsmen.... He looked outside the windown, his pants already on as the shadow figure ran over him. He looked downwards, seeing the guards pointing at something. He quickly put his belt on with all his sheathes, and looked outside his window. He saw a couple of good hand holds, easily climbing up. He then saw his target, grinning.

He ran after her, jumping and trying to follow. This guy was agile and acrobatic, much more then Max. He kept up the pace though, holding on to him as he fell down. He snickered, "Rookie mistake." He said to himself, and then his target ran off... before he could reach the ledge that he had fallen off of. He jumped down, his sword in hand and stabbing at the potatoes, not hitting anything that jutted out blood. "He... got AWAY!" He yelled, then it hit him. Not it, he... and a rather strong he. Before Max realized it, he was on the ground with a body guard ontop of him, being roped down. He grunted, trying to get out from under him. The guard slammed him across the face. He sighed, relenting. The stragglers came in, saw the bare chested bounty hunter and slapped on his back. "Good! Send word to the Government that we got him!" He said in a grin.

Max stared, then started moving again... not able to get out of the restraints. He got dragged to jail... and that was his first day in Vermillia... and also the first day he got caught for a crime he didn't do... and for somebody he wasn't...

Gabriel Vandel

Location: Vermillia Port

The lull of the sea was quite rudely interrupted by the bustle of bare feet on wood, and the shouting of orders from across the deck. Gabriel reluctantly opened his eyes, and quickly shielded them from the harsh light of the sun. Why did the sun seem so much brighter when one was out on the water? Hotter too. With a groan, Gabriel pushed himself upright and looked around as sailors busied themselves with rigging and lines and knots and what-not. The thing he liked about sailors, you gave 'em a drink, and they wont ask you to many awkward questions. Like why you needed to hide during government inspections or why you have a sword as big as some men. He grinned as he picked his sword off of the deck and inspected the blade. Still sharp, and fortunately the salt air hadn't rusted it.

Gabriel stood, sheathing Moon Splitter on his back as he gazed out over the railings. It would seem that they had arrived while he slept, for before him lay the fishing city of Vermillia, a shining gem of trade amongst the three continents. Gabriel grinned as the ship was tied to the dock. The captain, an elderly man with a mustache that nearly touched the floor and skin like thin bronze, walked up to the fair skinned and dark haired youth and smiled behind his mustache before speaking. "Well young'n, I hope you find who ever it is you're lookin' for here." Gabriel only smiled and shook the old man's hand before making his way down the gangplank and into the fishing town, disappearing into the crowd. It's alot easier for a Kamari to go unnoticed when your hair was black and your eyes were blue.

Gabriel turned, hearing the sound of running feet and shouting. On instinct, he slipped into a nearby alley, his hand going straight to the hilt of his blade. He waited as the large group ran past, guards it looked like, and fortunately not chasing him. But if not him, who could it be they were chasing? "Well, I wont find anything out standing in this alley, will I?" he muttered under his breath as he made after the guards.

The guard seemed to be chasing someone running across the rooftops, carrying a few bags of potatoes, but it certainly was quite a few guards for just a minor theft. He looked up as the robbed figure leaped from one roof to another, and stopped dead in the street. Just then, he'd seen under the hood, just a little bit but more than enough. White bangs, white as moonlight. Only Kamari had hair like that, not including himself. It was her.

He ran as fast as he could to catch back up to the guard as they turned down an alley. There in the alley, the guards were apprehending... someone else. Gabriel sighed silently with relief and stuck to the wall as the unnamed man was dragged away by the guard. Soon, the alley was clear of guards, and Gabriel made his way inside. It was quite the mess, broken baskets and potatoes littered the ground. He crouched and inspected the ground more closely. The straws from the broken baskets painted a perfect picture for those who could see it. The robbed Kamari obviously fell onto the baskets from the roofs, then... was on their knees trying to grab the potatoes. But they ran out of time.. dropped the potatoes, and went over to the wall. Gabriel inspected the bricks, and grinned. At about knee-height, he found some dirt on the edge of the bricks, likely scrapped off the bottom of a boot as the robbed figure climbed up the wall. He smiled and found and unbroken basket amongst the rubble, and gathered the unsmashed potatoes.

"Now, if I were a wanted criminal and the last of my kind, being pursued by the guard and... have a serious potato craving maybe? Where would I hide?" he said under his breath. Well, he was the last of his kind so that put him closer to the right mindset. Someplace secluded of course, where most people wouldn't go. Tall too, to keep an eye out for the guard. He frowned and looked up at the wall. Might as well. He tucked the basket under one arm and began climbing, pulling himself up the wall with ease, even with just one hand. Once on the roof, he saw it. The Bell tower. "That's where I would hide." Without another thought, he made his way across the roofs, and while he wasn't quick or nimble he was sturdy and strong as an ox, and more launched himself over the gaps rather than leaped across. For the first time in a long time, he felt alive again, and not quite so alone.

Alexander Die Rasch

The Vast empty expanse of the open sea was a lovely sight. The weather was calm and the wind blowing at just the right speed, and in just the right direction to give The Prosper good speed. The Prosper was a fair-sized merchant ship sailing at a luxurious pace. Its captain was a flamboyantly dressed burly man with a handlebar mustache twirled into tight spirals at the end. His outfit was adorned with vibrant colors shone brilliantly in the light as he stepped out on to the deck and took in a lungful of the fresh salty air.

His ship was currently transporting exotic clothing and small trinkets that would buy him a quick profit when it reached its destination Vermellia. Though the cargo was mostly counterfeit, few people had the eyes to discern them from the authentic thing. However his true profit, would be from the small barrel of Trefia in the hold, hidden among some of the gowns. Trefia was a rare and exotic plant that was expressly forbidden within all the continents. It had a paralyzing and euphoric effect on the mind when taken in even small doses. This was of no concern to the Captain, he had transported many a contraband in his days, all traders have. It was just, part of the job.

This trip would be an easy profit, making him back easily twice as much as he invested. Enough to fill his crews belly for a month, and maybe even make a few repairs to The Prospers less appealing features. He had only just began to think of this when his day flipped on its back and floated belly up on the ocean, because a cry from the deck had reached his ears. One that struck horror into all sailors who were unlucky enough to encounter it.
"THE NIGHT IS UPON US! THE REAPER COMES!"
The Captain order his crew to stations, telling them to arm the cannons. Then he gazed upon the ocean to find a sight the chilled his bone to the deepest marrow. A ship flew across the waves at unbelievable speeds, any thought of fleeing ran from the Captain's mind as he gazed upon the large ship hailing down upon his own. Its sails were as black as a moonless night, and fully stretched with the wind directly into canvas. The flag was the worst though, instead of the traditional skull and crossbones favored by mostly pirates, this particular ship's flag was a skull and scythe, designed in a smoky sort of way that made it almost haze in the wind. "Half mast, turn to starboard and let her feel the bite of our iron!" The Captain called out desperately, his only hope was to take advantage of the vessel's speed by launching a sudden assault upon it. If timed right it would have no room to evade a hail of cannon fire.
The ship stayed its course, even as the Prosper moved into position to fire and the Captain marveled at his luck, his foe was no Sea devil as the legends told. No demon from the depths of the deepest parts of the sea come to wreck hell upon all those it encountered. It was just one foolish man, who's winning streak had finally come to an abrupt stop. "Fire all cannons!' The Captain called out, sure of his victory. He was unable to figure out exactly what happened next, but it seemed as if the ship blew itself apart from under him, explosions from below deck rocked up large splinters of wood and through the chaos the captain caught one blurry sight, the site of a crew descending upon the crippled Prosper, blacking out the sun with men.

The Captain awoke many hours later, tied to the mast of an unknown ship, with his crew tied to small dingys, leaning half over the rails. He tried to call to them but his mouth had been gagged by a soft cloth of sorts. A figure approached him, though his vision was hazy he could make out a tall demanding presence standing in front of him. The gag was torn from his mouth, allowing the Captain to inhale large lungfilled gulps of air. The figure said nothing at first, and when the Captain tried to speak it held up a hand for silence. Then leaned in close, close enough that the Captain could see and smell the stench of fresh blood. Later, though he would not swear by it, he would think to himself that possibly, just for a moment the figure's eyes had flashed red. Now however he had been only able to listen as a dark voice whispered into his ear. "The life of your crew, for knowledge of another." He told the figure everything, letting the words fly freely, his voice filled with cowardice and shuddering in fear of the awesome force before him, the force that had somehow destroyed his entire ship without firing a single cannon, without so much as changing course. The Captain would tell the tale many a time in the near future, mostly whilst washing away his money on cheap booze and bad card hands. He would tell it all the same, the tale of his own deathly encounter...with 'The Reaper'.

Renee Cevera

Location: Government Facility (Arith Branch)

Image

The sound of footsteps fills the halls of the Government Facility. A young woman with long blonde hair power walked down the hallway, brushing past and apologizing to everyone near by. "Everyone look out!" She yelled out. People nearly hugged the walls to let her past; the glint of ferocity in her eyes and her slight scowl didn't allow anyone to think twice about it. Another woman was keeping up with her, trying to calm her down.

"Detective Cevera, you don't normally act like this! What's got you so riled up?" The woman, who was following her asked. Renee didn't slow her pace, and she weaved her way through another hallway. The woman put a hand on her shoulder to stop her.

"Detective Cevera, just relax! I only told you your superior wanted to see you; there's no need to act like this."

Renee exhaled and faced her co-worker, her light brown eyes barely seen through the glare in her glasses. "Sorry. I'm just... excited... to start this next case." She admitted.

"Excited enough to knock over almost everyone in your way?"

A smirk appeared on the blonde's face.

"Yes, because it involves the rumored Kamari. Sorry, but I have to go."

Renee parted ways with her co-worker and made for her superior's office. Along the way, she wondered just what her assignment would be; there was more than one way to get information on a target. Arriving at her destination, she knocked on the door.

"Come in." Her superior called from inside.

Renee pushed the door open and stepped inside. Her superior was sitting at his desk. "Detective Cevera, I've been expecting you. Please, have a seat." He ordered, pointing to the chair in front of his workspace. She obeyed and sat down.

"Do you know why you're here, Detective?" His superior asked, almost jokingly.

"I suppose you want to tell me something important?"

"Maybe? Guess."

"You want me to do something Kamari related."

He chuckled and leaned back in his seat. "Good guess! Was it a hunch or-"

"It was obvious, sir," Renee interrupted, adjusting her glasses. "Not much of a secret that the Kamari search isn't making much progress, and you need me to help."

The superior folded his arms with a smirk. "Correct again. Your success rate has risen to 85% lately, and I need my best on this one." He reached under his desk and put a file folder front of her. "Everything you need to know is in there."

The detective took the folder and tucked it under her arm. "No need to open it, I've already done my homework."

"H-Huh?"

"The Kamari were supposed to be wiped out, but one or more seemed to have survived. They have white hair, red eyes, and can run faster and jump higher than any human. There has been recent activity in Vermellia, and you want me to investigate there first. I have already gotten the times for when the ships leave, and I will be departing tonight. Is there anything else you would like to tell me, sir? "

Her superior remained silent, his smirk turning into a smile.

"Sir?" Renee called to him, tilting her head slightly to the side in confusion. What was so funny?

"Detective Cevera... how long have you been looking into this issue? I can tell you have some kind of personal stake in this." He questioned, visibly amused.

Renee chuckled and rubbed the back of her head embarrassed on how obvious her interest was. "Ever since the rumors started four months ago. I'm really interested in this case, and I would like to thank you for this opportunity, sir.

Her superior's smile faded as he stood up and started pacing the room with his hands behind his back. "Since you know all the information, let me cut straight to the objective." He then leaned forward on his desk, staring Renee directly in her eyes.

"You need to track and find where this Kamari is hiding and report their whereabouts back to us, so we can send our top assassins to... dispose of them."

Renee's pupils widened for a second and she clenched her fists. Dispose of them? She feared that it would come to this. She looked up to and adored the Kamari ever since she was a child, especially since their race saved her life twice. She owes them her life, and now she has to go and hunt possibly the last of their kind? She felt the conflict burning inside, between what the Government wants, and the Kamari's life. She swore to serve the Government, but her bond with the Kamari is strong enough to have her second guessing.

She has even discovered a small, but furious hate for the Government lately for wiping out a race unprovoked. The Government was supposed to be the good guys, right? Lately, ever since the rumors started, she's been questioning that.

"Detective Cevera!" Renee snapped out of her thoughts when her superior snapped his fingers in her face a few times. "Are you okay?"

"Oh... sorry sir. I was thinking about something." She replied, brushing her hair from her face.

"Focus, Cevera. Now... this might be dangerous, and we might not be the only ones looking for her, so i'm approving the use of weapons for this mission. Only fight if you have to, and do not engage the Kamari at any cost. We don't want to lose the best detective in Arith, do we?"

Renee nodded in understanding.

"Good, now when you find the Kamari's location, contact us. I also want a progress report from you at least once a week. If we don't receive it, we will have to consider you MIA or KIA. If you're ever captured and interrogated for information, be sure to use this ring."

Renee eyed the plain silver ring her superior placed in front of her.

"Isn't that... a suicide ring?" She asked.

"Yes. It has a hidden latch you use with your thumb that exposes a poison filled needle. Inject it into your bloodstream, and you'll be dead in 30 seconds. Let's hope you wont need it."

Renee took the ring and slipped it on her left hand. She then stood up, placed her hands on her side, and inhaled.

"I... Renee Cevera... humbly accept this assignment, to help keep the world safe from it's enemies." I will serve the people with bravery and pride, and give my life so that others can live. I will stay focused, and protect the weak from danger. I will sacrifice my personal feelings for the feelings of the masses, and I will not stop until the civilians can sleep soundly at night. I, Renee Cevera, make this pledge, to stay faithful to the Government, and all of it's hard working people."

"Analyze. Perceive. Achieve. This is the motto of the Detectives of the Assailan Government, and I will be successful on this assignment, for there is no clue that cannot be found."

Her superior nodded and rubbed his chin. "Good, your pledge is getting better; less stuttering this time. Now your ship leaves soon, you should hurry."

Renee nodded and made her way for the door. After walking outside and closing it, she leaned against the wall and ran her hands through her hair. The motto they have to recite every time before accepting an assignment didn't feel as... right... as it should of felt. Now a headache was slowly forming as she made her way home to gather her things. Could she really choose between the two sides? Either way, she had her assignment. This was her chance to see a Kamari again for the first time since they were declared extinct. She couldn't turn this down and miss this opportunity.

"Alright, first stop... Vermellia." She mumbled to herself, readjusting her glasses with an ambitious smirk.

Tara Vemica
Location: Vermellia - Port City

Image

She'd been laying under the shelter of the bell tower for quite some time, arms and legs spread out as they rested on the somewhat cool stone that made up the bell tower and the rest of the building beneath it. However even under the shade the warmth of the sun still consumed Vermellia. Tara on her back with her eyes closed, her white hair spread out around her. She wasn't sleeping, nor was she trying to sleep. She was merely listening to all the sounds of the port city. The ocean waves that lapsed the docks as fishing ships pulled in to deliver their loads, the chatting of people in the streets and laughter of children as they played tag. There were many other sounds that she couldn't quite make out, too.

All of these bustling noises were very new to her. Though she had visited Arith for a while, she much preferred the sound of the ocean over the construction work that kept her awake at night while she was there. However these sounds also made her feel a little homesick. The city was a nice place with plenty of good food and interesting things to see, but she missed the forest that surrounded her village home. She opened her eyes and turned her head to look at the clear sky as she though. I wonder what everyone is doing....Pa's probably gunna kill me when I get home. I'll just bring him some souvenirs! Eh..no he'll still kill me.

She let a small smile creep across her lips for a moment, but only for a moment before her eyes widened slightly and then she closed them tightly and shook her head. With a small huff she sat up and let out a loud sigh. "Enough of that! It's too hot to just be laying around here!" She picked herself up off the ground and walked over to the edge of the tower, being sure to pull her hood back over her head as she did so, and looked over the town, only to duck down as a patrol group made their way through the street below her. She was pretty high up and she doubted any of them bothered to look up, but she'd rather not risk it.

After waiting a few seconds she peeked over the wall. Looked like the coast was clear of authorities. She wasn't particularly worried about a regular citizen reporting her in since it wasn't as if she was the only one walking around in a hood. It was a hot day, after all, so even if it was an extra layer of clothes a hood did provide shade and protection from the sun. Not that Tara really had to worry about getting burnt, but other people did. She just had to make sure she didn't do anything reckless while down in the street....like for instance steal food or leap from building to building. Well getting down would take longer now.

She turned to the stairs leading to the bottom of the bell tower. "Stairs suck..", she mumbled to herself before reluctantly making her way down. Forget stealing supplies. She could just hide away on a caravan or something. Couldn't be that hard to find one that she could smuggle herself onto, right? Maybe they'd even give her a free ride..? Yeah..not likely, Tara.

The merchant who brought Max to Vermilla was now doing his request... sailing around the ocean with a make shift flag. The flag looked like a pirate flag... yet it was one with a Rapier on it. Yes indeed, they were waving the flag of the 'Nightshadow' hoping to catch it's attention... having to deliver a message to the Reaper himself. Hence why, the massive sum of gold he was giving. The merchant gupled, keeping with the flag. He couldn't back down now....

The message was to bombard the castle overlooking the ocean, that Max knew was the closest castle that a guard would bring him to. He knew the government would never go out of it's way to bring a dangerous murderer into their castle, so they'd give the job to a noble.

Location: Vermillia, present.

He groaned, finally waking up in a cell. "I swear to god...." He said, getting up. He looked around, slamming his arm on the cell's door. "I want to speak with whoever is in charge here!" He yelled, slamming harder. A guard came in. "Shut up you piece of crap!" He said, punching Max in the face.

Max, still dazed, got hit. "Do that again I dare you..." He says. The guard opened up the cell. "What was that?" He asked coming in. "You're just a worthless piece of crap! We should have you hanged you Kamari shit!" The guard said, kicking at him. Max groaned, "Do you really think I'm a Kamari? Are you blind?!" He groaned, earning himself another kick. The guard got out as he got up, groaning. "I swear..." He said, coughing. "Your trial is in a few minutes, play nice." The guard said, leaving. "Trial... trial for what?" He asked himself.

Then, moments later, he was dragged to this big room infront of... a throne. "Oh this can't be good..." He told himself, groaning as he was force to stand up. Two guards were next to him, and he was facing a big round man on the throne. "You! You are Kamari are you not?" The Noble asked. "I'm as much Kamari as you are Skinny." He said, that got him punched across the face. He spit in the guards face groaning. The noble waved his hand, to let that one go. "You were found at the site of incident where the Kamari was last sighted. We believe you are the Kamari when you ditched out the cloak. That is why you are bare chest, no?" The noble asked.

"Born to Full Moon, their hair as white as a pearl. Their eyes as crimson as blood." He said, reciting what he had seen in a book. Then, Max looked at the noble. "Now will you please tell me, how in the world am I RELATED TO ANY OF THOSE DESCRIPTIONS?!" Max yelled at the Noble, which got him another punch across the face. The noble growled. "You think I am stupid?" The Noble asked, obviously getting furious. "As stupid as a deaf pirate that never went to school." He said, getting hit again.

Max was just hoping Reaper would come in soon... hoping his message was delivered.

Gabriel Vandel

Location: Vermillia Belltower

The walk to the bell tower gave Gabriel some time to reflect, though the only thing he could really think about is why he ran from home. Well there was the obvious answer, that he was Kamari (though a bit of botched product) and would be hunted down by the government should anyone find out. Then the less obvious, that the man who'd raised him for almost ten years as his father was ACTUALLY the man who had killed his father all those years ago, and somewhere inside his mind, Gabriel must have known that. Though as he lunged from one building to the next, the citizens below pointing up at the rooftops and gawking, Gabriel wondered what it would really be like to meet another Kamari. Likely, they wouldn't trust him one iota. After all, he certainly didn't look like a Kamari, not with black hair a blue eyes. He rummaged through his coat pocket and took a peak in the journal he found in his old home, his real home. Most of it was indecipherable thanks to the fire, but the day of his birth, that strange day with the eclipse, was in perfect condition.

Gabriel pocketed the book as he leaped to the next building, nearly slipping on a loose shingle but catching his balance with the basket of potatoes. Close call. Wouldn't want to end up as a stain on the street now would I? At least he was at the bell tower, a massive building taller than almost every building in the city and twice as ornate. It was actually quite beautiful. He stepped to the edge of the roof and wrapped his armored hand around a thick copper pipe affixed to the building, probably a water line, and slid down the pipe, his feet hitting the paved ground with a heavy thud. He quickly made his way into the bell tower before he drew and attention to himself, all to aware of the heightened security that seemed to teem the city.

Inside of the bell tower was less ornate, but beautiful in it's own way. The stairs however, seemed to stretch on and on and on and... well, there were quite alot of stairs. "I guess I should get going if I want to get up there before nightfall." With a heavy sigh, he adjusted the potato basket under his arm and started climbing the stair case that very well might lead to heaven. It certainly seemed to go high enough.

Alexander Die Rasch

The Nightshadow floated next the merchants ship. he had frightfully watched as it appeared on the horizon, drifting almost freely in the sea minutes ago. With little other choice the merchant ordered his own ship towards The Nightshadow when it had first appeared in sight. He had proceeded cautiously, fear biting into his core. The amount of money was the only reason he refused to raise sail and speed away as quickly as possible. After examining the deck of the haunting ship through his spyglass he quickly came to the realization that it was empty.
A ghost ship, no crew in sight, no sign of movement, just dead in the water. It had, regretfully, prompted investigation. His crew placed boarding planks and slowly flooded aboard the abandoned ship. even though what few weapons they had were ready, each sailor was numb with fear. The deck gave an ominous creek as they lay feet upon it. It was truly deserted, or so it seemed. The Merchant was about to order them off this unholy boat when a grim voice sounded from above them. Though quiet it seemed to echo across the entire deck. "LIARS."'.
A form dropped down into the middle of the Merchant's crew. What happened next was a blur. The figure danced from person to person, more of a shape than a physical being. The Merchant watched in horror as his crew dropped to the ground in sequence, not even capable of firing a single shot. In less than the time it took to breath, all five of the merchant's men were groaning painfully on the ground. The merchant stepped back and drew his rapier, pointing it at the now motionless figure in front of him. It was a young man, hardly more than twenty from his looks. He was tall, bronze skinned and well muscled, he wore a blood-red captains coat. Although whether the red was the color of the fabrics cloth, or the blood of former enemies, it was impossible to say. One thing was obvious though, the cutlass the man held in his right hand dangling at his side, was sharp and crudely crafted. "You trespass on a damned ship." The man said in a dark whispering voice as he slowly walked toward the shivering captain. "You fly a false flag." He was close enough now the Merchant could see the figure's scarred body. "and you DARE to draw steel against The Reaper!" the man suddenly shouted as he swung his cutlass to fast for the Merchant's eye to trace.
The Merchants sword shattered into pieces with a metallic clash, the shards scattered across the deck and the cutlass positioned itself lightly on the base of the Merchants neck. The Reaper wore a sadistic grin on his face, looking like a madman. "Fool."

Not long after..

A gypsy trading ship docked withen the city of Vermillia a lively crew began descending to the wooden docks. Grins on each of their faces as they laughed joyfully at being on solid land again. Alex watched his crew descend and fade into the large city, each with business to take care of, ands each with a deadline to keep. Only Alex and two others, three if you counted Oop, remained behind. His trusty first mate Jimmy, and his bodyguard Sandra. Oop fired off a series of high-pitched whoops and Alex looked over one shoulder with a grin on his face. "Someone is happy to be home." He said as his Firstmate and only friend; Jimmy fed his pet monkey Oop a treat.
Sandra was oddly silent as the three made their way across the city, following its winding streets and trying to avoid the bustling crowds of commotion. Alex looked at her pointedly. "Something wrong?" he asked casually. At first she seemed unsure whether to answer, biting her bottom lip as she often did when indecisive.
"Why are we doing this?" she asked hesitantly after a few minutes. Alex stopped for a moment to consider. It wasn't an unreasonable question, he had dragged his crew halfway across the sea to get here. Perhaps an explanation was deserved, but before that, There was business to deal with.
"After we help Max." He said then continued walking. The Merchant had passed along Max's message with Alex's blade poised at his throat. A message requesting the help of a man whom he tried to kill. On two separate occasions no less. Most might think this was a move that demonstrated pure idiocy. However.. "Hey boss, why are we helping this guy out anyway?" Jimmy asked from his left shoulder.
"Because Jimmy.." Alex turned on a street that would soon lead to a large castle. One containing his old rival. "I'm hardly going to let someone else kill him." He finished with a wicked gleam in his eye.

Renee Cevera

Location: Arith Port

Image

Business was normal at Arith's main port, where ships docked and left to go to numerous destinations. Several ships were also coming in; trade ships, fisherman boats, all different kinds of transport and trade went on, reminding Renee just how much Assaila used sea transport. She checked her equipment to make sure she had everything: rapier on her side, dagger hidden away, several books in her bag, money and some spare food, her "disguise kit", several changes of clothes, a spare set of glasses, and a few more odds and ends. The detective noted she was traveling a bit heaver than she planned, but it was better to be prepared.

"Renee, wait!"

The blonde spun around and was surprised to see her parents heading over to her. "Mother? Father? What are you doing here?"

Her father took a step forward and placed his hands on her daughter's shoulders. "I just wanted to wish my daughter a safe trip." He admitted. Her mother nodded in agreement. "I know you don't like it when we baby you, but we wanted you to be careful. If your next case is about the Kamari, who knows what will happen?" Her mother added.

Renee took her parents' concern to heart. "Don't worry, I'll be careful. By the way, how did you know that I was leaving Arith?"

Her parents looked at each other and smiled. "We know how to get information," Her father boasted. "Where do you think you got your skills from?"

And then her parents burst into a fit of smug laughter.

Renee didn't know whether to feel impressed, or creeped out.

Her mother stopped laughing and reached into a small bag she was carrying. "Oh, and I also brought you a present!" She announced, pulling out a pie wrapped in plastic to preserve it. "I bought you your favorite; my apple and cinnamon pie! I even added extra cinnamon, just the way you like it, dear. Sure to keep you full if you get hungry on your big mission!"

"Oh my God, mom!" Renee whined, her cheeks flushing red from embarrassment as a few people walked by, laughing. She was a 25 year old detective for the government, not some kid receiving their lunch before going to school. She muttered a "thanks" as she awkwardly took the pie and put it with the rest of her stuff.

Her father then put on a serious expression, letting her know that he was serious now. "Alright Renee, we know that we may not see you for a while, so come back safe and sound. Also, we never had a chance to properly thank the Kamari for saving you. If you do find a Kamari, can you just give them a personal thanks from your mother and me?"

Renee nodded her head. "Of course, I'll be sure to thank them properly when I see them." She assured with a smile. Her parents wrapped her arms around her, much to her embarrassment, and squeezed tightly.

"We're so proud of you, Renee." Her mother said. "We just wanted you to know that."

After some more small small talk, her parents left, waving the entire time. She turned and headed for the transport ship that was supposed to carry her across the sea.

Renee walked over to and showed her ticket to the person standing in front of the ship; the captain. "Excuse me, this is the ship headed for Vermellia, correct?"

"That's right, ma'am." The captain answered, taking her ticket. It leaves in 10 minutes, and arrives tomorrow around noon."

"Tomorrow?! You don't understand, I need to be in Vermellia by tonight!" She yelled. The trail might be cold by tomorrow; she needed to get to Vermellia as quickly as possible. There had to be something she could do.

The captain shrugged his shoulders. "Sorry ma'am, but that's her scheduled time to arrive, and we're transporting a lot of people. Rushing like that could be dangerous and-"

"How much do I need to pay you to get me there by tonight?!" Renee interrupted, pulling out her wallet.

The captain stopped his explanation, and slowly turned to her with a sly smile.

"How much are we talking?"
