Description

Name:
Nathaniel Creed

Age:
17

Gender:
Male

Species:
Human

Image

Abilities:
He has something of a six sense, letting him 'feel' the slightest movement in the air around him. It's keen enough that he can still get around if most of his other senses are blocked or not working.

Disabilitys:
Nathan's body is being eaten away from the inside by an unknown illness, leaving him bedridden and borderline comatose.

History:
Nathan was born in a village named Kurn in the ruins of a nation once known as Russia, a land that had been cut apart and stretched to it's limit during the war. The second he was able to walk, he was put to work just like everyone else who wished to stay in the village and were worth wasting supplies on. He learned of the cruel realities of life at a very young age, losing his mother to wild animals, and he learned and adapted to it quickly. His patience and potential weren't wasted as he reached the 'safe age' where he was far less likely to catch a common but lethal illness that took so many children before him. He quickly grew to be a spitting image of his father and just as resourceful as he became an excellent scavenger, a deadly shot and even had the good fortune of stumbling upon a patch of neurosium radiation. While normally yet another substance that could kill you very easily, those who survived it's effects were changed in one way or another, sometimes in a good way and sometimes a bad way. Nathan got the former in the form of his strange sixth sense. Despite all of his relatively good fortune over the years, it had to end eventually. One scrape on his ankle while out and about one day led to an infection that's slowly eating away at him. Bed ridden and clinging to life, many townsfolk have considered putting him out of his misery just so he doesn't take up any more supplies with the only thing keeping him from a quick execution being the stubborn protection of his father. As he got worse and worse, he began slipping in and out of what he thought were bizarre dreams until he finally found himself in the strangest place imaginable: Here.

Hobbies:
Idle time is wasted time. While Nathan has never had the privilege of time for hobbies, he does find the task of hunting and gathering to be fun. Or at least not as boring as repair or cooking.

Personality:
While Nathan is kind and polite young man, he's anything but positive. To him, it doesn't matter if the glass is half empty or half full, just if whatever is in it is edible. Facts outweigh feelings every time though that isn't to say that he's emotionless either but instead of wasting time trying to act one way all the time, he simply changes with the situation. If something good happens, he's happy. If something bad happens, he's sad but quickly gets over it. With everyone in his home being so grim and the word optimist meaning the same as fool to them, some of the brighter personalities in Here catch him off guard and give him a mix of jealously he can't quite explain and a somewhat bitter annoyance of their apparent ignorance. He tries to avoid most of Here's other occupants though he won't ignore them if he is approached. If someone does start up a conversation with him, he finds his curiosity to be too much for his own good as he pokes and prods about what places people are from and how their lives are different from his own. Considering most children don't survive at a young age, Nathan is the only young adult his age he's known of until now so he's never had a friend nor is he sure he wants one.

Back home:
Nobody alive today was alive before the end of the world as people knew it. A war between every nation of the world was in full swing, countries throwing everything they had at one another while they used smaller nations as pawns. The fighting had gone on so long that nobody could remember why they were shedding blood in the first place. Nothing was off limit as the 'laws of war' were dismantled and thrown aside. Torture, chemical weapons and martial law were not just common but practically expected. Ironically enough, it wasn't the force of these nations colliding that broke the final straw but the acts of an organization who looked for an end to the violence. In the battered nation of France, the L'extrémité sent men and women across the globe to orchestrate the ultimate endgame that they eventually set into motion. The end result was the simultaneous destruction of every nation with their own weapons. Death tolls on a massive scale occurred and the collateral was enough to practically rip the planet in two. Despite all that, signs of humanity lived on. Small nations and towns far from the various ground zeros were mostly intact despite the encroaching of radioactive abominations that spewed from the wastes. Communication between settlements that were more than a few miles away are nonexistent. Electricity is nonexistent, food and water are grown and filtered with pure manpower and even something as simple as a battered old pistol with half a clip is considered a precious treasure. Despite being fairly close to one of the major fallout points on the planet, the town of Kurn has managed to survive with reasonable thinking and a careful use of their supplies.

Other:
Even in Here, Nathan keeps on his gas mask despite the fact he knows the air is breathable though he's not sure if he even needs to breathe in such a place. When asked he dodges the question, something very unlike him and his to the point attitude.

So begins...

A young man sat on the ledge atop a massive skyscraper made of brass gears and gyros, the air filled with the ticking of hundred of clocks in unison. There was nothing but massive clock towers for miles and miles, all varying in detail and height but sharing the same rhythm like the heartbeat of passing time as the the bright orange sun set slowly behind them. Despite the awe the view might bring to some there was an air of sadness to it as well as the empty city of time had no citizens aside from the boy in black and the further one looked to the horizon, they more run down and ragged the towers started to look. Even here there was obvious patches of rust staining the shining metal, looking like scratches and wounds on the skin of the old buildings. Still, it was peaceful and peace was all Nathan could ask for in the senseless world he'd found himself in.

He closed his eyes and sighed as the sound bore into his mind. It had done it's job of clearing his mind but now he was left with the cold, harsh reality that he still didn't understand this place nor the place that had led him here. It was all a mystery and one that had been unsolved for the last seven days. This strange paradox of a place, Here, screamed of dreamers and idealists, a place where the blind could see, the deaf could hear and the mute could speak. A place where the dying could live. Yet Nathan knew it couldn't last despite nor was he sure whether or not he wanted it to. He mind wandered as he pushed himself up, taking a careful step away from the ledge before turning and making his way back. He weaved through the innards of the clockwork mechanics as he jumped between slow moving pistons and avoided whirling gears until he found the heart of the machine and there, pinned up on a stationary column, was a painting of a long white hallway with dozens of other works of art hanging from the walls. Without hesitating, he walked towards the painting and slide through it as thought it was nothing more than a window.

In the blink of an eye the world changed as the painting became the new reality while the old turned to paper and paint yet again. As he straightened himself up and brushed off dust from his long black coat, a feeling on the back of Nathan's neck began to tingle as he realized the hallway was not empty. Two others stood just next to him, gazing at another picture just three frames away. This would have worried the overly cautious Nathan on his first or second day here but he had quickly learned that the only dangers that existed were the ones that you were willing to let assist. Still, he avoided the other citizens of Here the best he could though he did his best to not come off as rude. He didn't have any problems with the people that found themselves here as well. In fact some of them fascinated him. He was simply not very good with interacting with people, especially some of the odd... things that he'd seen. He tried to quietly turn and walk away from the two without a single word.

Eden heard a noise behind them and turned around to see a boy. "Hello Mister." She smiled happy to see another face. She blinked upon realizing he had come from a painting. "Are you from around here?" She blinked and tilted her head to the side strands of her hair fell down her shoulder and back and glowed with soft golden light. She could tell that the man was not the most social by his attitude already but Eden was determined she could make anyone warm up a little.

Nathan tensed up when a voice rang out behind him, obviously the words being directed towards him. 'So much for subtlety,' he thought as he turned on the spot to face the person who had called him out. He could tell that this girl was the polar opposite of himself just from looking at her. She was small and cutesy with colorful, impractical clothes, a big happy grin on her face as if she was having the time of her life and her bright hair and clean skin looked like they were literally lighting up the room. Nathan on the other hand was tall and shabby wearing a dusty and heavily patched black trench coat with matching shirt, pants and combat boots. His hair was dark and messy with small patches of dried much covering him skin in irregular patterns and even though most of his face was obscured by the heavy and worn gas mask on his face, his blue grey eyes didn't have a fraction of mirth in them.

"I don't think anyone is from Here," he answered as he brushed off a bit more dust from his coat, causing a coat of dust to fly off and float to the ground. His eyes squinted as he took a step closer to the girl and leaned in, looking her square in the eye for a brief second. "Yeah, there's no doubt about it. You're a First," he said as he leaned back again, placing a hand on the side of his head as he closed his eyes and sighed. "Great. Newbies and that red headed guy isn't around to give explanations." He half opened his right eye and stared down at the bright girl. "Suppose someone has to do it then." He opened his other eye as he dug his hands deep into his coat's pockets. "You got a name, kid?"

Eden blinked and watched the guy observe her. She shuffled awkwardly in her place and swallowed until he leaned away then she smiled. "My name is Eden Nathenniel Green... Ima sunflower~" She spun and stopped perfectly. A mysterious smile covered her face this time. "And you... Your someone who's life has been filled with much hardship and nothing much to smile about... The look in your eyes gives it away... You got the look of a boy who gave up his childhood cause he had to be a man... Only to have fate find its way of stabbing you in the back..." She blinked at the dark haired boy right in the eyes. "Anydoodle... May I know your name?"

While she awaited her reply she allowed her eyes to dart around there vicinity observing the various paintings. Until her eyes met with one... It was the picture of a bug... a red bug with black dots on its back... The painting was a closeup and the bug was on a leaf. Eden paled and the light reflecting off her dimmed a little as if trying to protect itself. Eden feared bugs more then anything in the world. On her planet they were the size of houses and ate up the world and people. Eden had once or twice run into a bug... She tore her eyes away from the picture and soon as she did her healthy glow returned.

This girl was.... odd to say the least. As Nathan had expected, she was ungodly optimistic as she went as far as to spin in place when she introduced herself. Not to mention the fact she stated she was a sunflower. And then something even more bizarre happened. Instead of asking who he was, she told him with an odd little smile on her face. The entire ordeal was creepy and somewhat annoying as if her eyes were able to read him like an open book. This bugged Nathan more so than most people because of how easily she saw through him. He wanted to convince himself it was just a lucky guess but there was no way she could have said all of that without knowing something. Here gathered people from all around, most of them not human. Maybe this bizarre plant girl was psychic or something. But if that was the case she wouldn't have bothered asking for his name.

"Nathan," he said in a flat, filtered tone as he pulled a hand out of his pocket to mess with one of the knobs on his mask, his expression not changing despite her apparent efforts to faze him. "Good to meet you. Now then, I assume that you-" He cut himself off mid sentence as he noticed the girl's expression. She looked panicked and paled as her eye caught one of the paintings off to the side. He followed where her eyes led to and was instantly confused. He looked to the two neighboring pictures, assuming he was simply looking in the wrong place but there was nothing but innocent scenery. His eyes fell back onto the painting of the lady bug as he began to realize that this girl may be the most annoying thing he ever met. Of course if she really was a plant, it made partial sense that bugs might be frightening. Maybe they were bigger where she came from. Nathan sighed as he closed his eyes again and let his hand fall to his side. "This is going to be interesting..." he mumbled to himself as he turned on the spot. "Come on. I know a place that might help you keep your mind on track while I try to explain things to you," he said as he turned on the spot and began walking slowly down the hall, not bothering to check if she was following.

Eden blinked and watched Nathan walk for awhile. He was certainly an interesting character... Definitely nothing like herself but she did not mind. She turned to her earlier companion Elian and grabbed picked him up before running to catch up with Nathan. Once she was caught up she set Elian down so he could walk along with the two of them. (( Eden... The only person who would nonchalantly pick someone up like a sack of flour. )) "So Mr.Nathan... Where are you from?" She asked curiously looking around the hallways as they passed various portraits. Each one was beautiful in its own way... Except the one earlier with that... BUG! She shuddered at the thought and frowned before continuing on her train of thought. To be honest Eden was kinda bothered by negative people. Not because they brought her down but simply because they themselves were down and sad. Nathan seemed like a wall of thought but not really negative... Perhaps he was simply more down to earth then she was. It was possible...

Daniel walked slowly trying to observer as much as he could from his surroundings. He had to jot this information down so he would remember and could perhaps help the new people that came here with it. "Hey you guys I feel a bit tired I think somethings wrong with me. I'll just lay down in one of the paintings, you guys go on ahead. " Daniel then went into a painting depicting a clearing with only trees and grass swaying. He laid down and tried to gather his thoughts
1. He came into a world or hub, more like awakened here.
2. In here you are able to go through paintings depicting a piece of land and time.
3. I have no idea how long the stay here is or even if there is a limit.
4. It seems people here have a different physiology.
5. People don't seem to like me talking, so I'll stick to writing on paper to limit the rambling I do, it will be much more time effecient.
6. No one seems to know what is happening here.
Daniel got his most important notes into that list. "Finally some peace and quiet no one to bother me, or threaten to kill me. I might actually enjoy this place, it seems nice and peaceful. No worrying about anything. " Daniel got up and expected there to be a fridge next to him. " Crap, I think I won't ever fully enjoy this place. " Daniel laid on the ground not worrying about anything just looking up thinking about what to next. "There's nothing to do now, besides wait for someone to pass by. Heck I might even get to try my experiment. " Daniel laughed, who was he kidding he was no scientist he didn't know how to build a energy generating machine. "It would be really wonderful if someone who knew about machinery appeared here. " Daniel decided not to worry about anything and just lay down and relax, he's had enough action for one day, if time even meant anything here. Daniel quickly returned to the group.

Nathan looked over his shoulder at the bright haired girl and her companion with another dull look of annoyance in his steely blue eyes. "Don't call me mister," he said plainly before turning his head to face forward, giving no explanation to the sudden rule he was nailing down. He began messing with his gas mask again as he decided to answer her question after a few second of complete silence. "Doubt you would have ever heard of it even if you were human. A village called Kurn in... the countryside." He paused partway into his sentence as he quickly remembered that she wouldn't know the name of an Earth country. Or the remains of one at this point. " His fingers stopped fiddling with his mask and hug loosely by his sides, swinging in rhythm with his footsteps. "It's small, dirty, lifeless besides the people in it. If you want to call what the people are doing 'living'." He turned his head slightly as he directed his words towards the girl again. "You wouldn't like it," he stated quietly in a tone that bordered apologetic, a glint of... something in his eye for a split second that died just as fast as it appeared.

It was only a few more steps down the hall before Nathan stopped dead in his tracks and turned to face another piece on the wall: a plain wooden frame holding an oil painting of a section of door with a sloppily added knob. "While you're here, you might as get use to getting between places," he said, tilting his head towards her as he reached out towards the painting. Unsurprisingly the canvas gave no resistance as his fingers slipped into the world of the picture and gripping the door handle and giving it a sharp turn before he slammed his shoulder into the wooden frame. While the brittle looking wood stayed intact, the entire section of wall surrounding the painting broke away and swung open as if on some invisible hinge to reveal another hall full of pictures, identical to the one they were in aside from the pieces on the walls themselves. Nathan stepped back, tugging his arm before he waved the two in. "Come on. This door closes itself and I'm not sure if it cares if people are passing or not."

Eden followed Nathan along the hallway and listened to the description of his home. "Your right... I would not like your home... Because I would die you silly goose." She giggled. "My home is covered in thick poisonous gas that people like me breath in... then we breath out oxygen... It looks really foggy where I live but its nice a warm but not too warm just right for plants... We have lots of vines and water... And... bugs..." She shuddered. "Bugs where I live are like the size of houses... they can eat people hole... Ive seen it happen... its not very pretty..." She frowned then turned to happier thoughts. "We have sulfur fields where I come from also... It's really nice but... I'm not sure if you would be able to breath in our air... That's kind of a shame..." Eden smiled at Nathan. "Oh well maybe someday people will find away to visit each other even if there really far away."

Eden looked around and ran right into Nathan when he stopped suddenly. She caught herself and stepped back then watched as he opened a painting up. "THAT'S SO COOL!" Her eyes sparkled in amazement as Nathan waved them in. "OK~" She skipped and jumped right into the painting without even a moment of hesitation. On the other side Eden frowned. It was just another hallway. That was pretty boring. She looked around this hallway. The marble here seemed a little bit different color but it was the same filled with paintings and turns like one big maze. In front of Eden there was a very odd picture. It was painted of an underwater point of view but the fish... Were odd they looked like they were made of jelly but they were clear and a faint color of blue they had tentacles like squids. (Jellyfishhhhhh~)

Eden walked over to the painting placed her hand on the wall next to it and pushed her head into the small square painting. The painted let her in right away and on the other side Eden found her head poking out of the sand underwater. Above her the strange fish jelly things swam and light so perfectly passed through the water and danced around her. She smiled to herself and for a moment panicked until she realized shed been breathing the whole time without drowning on water. Yet she could feel the water all around her pulling at her hair and soaking her clothes. Smiling she pushed her hands into the painting and pulled herself into the blue ocean her hips barely made it through though... Maybe she should have done what Nathan had done but hey she'd found a way to fit. Soon she was walking along the ocean floor she felt heavy with her clothes drenched and being underwater but she liked it. I wonder... if anyone could see me on the other side? If they were looking at this painting would I be here... or nowhere? The whimsical thought made her smile gently as she looked up at the ocean watching the jelly like fish float upward. They were like the oceans birds. Eden's golden hair was getting pushed around by the ocean it was almost like she was falling or floating but she felt her feet buried in the watery sand.

Marpe was busy ignoring the two men behind her that she almost didn't hear the voices again. She just heard faint echoes and not halting her step, followed with single minded determindness to find these other people. The quicker she did so hopefully the quicker she could go home. Twisting through corridor after corridor, oblivious to all the different pictures on the way, only one goal on mind. The voices where getting louder and from what she could hear they sounded young.

Trelore on the other hand wasn't struggling to catch up but he was still a few steps behind, his own ears picking up the voices and his interesting sparking. Then as he followed Marpe around one more corridor he found her halted. He looked around her shoulder to find a some people stepping into one of the pictures. Marpe was already walking over to the picture that they just disappeared into, it was a large expanse of glistening water filled with an array of different colour fish. Trelore stepped beside Marpe to look up into the scene. They said nothing for a moment, both rather intrigued. Then Marpe snapped out of it and began making her way into the picture.

"Wait!" Trelore exclaimed, not wanting to be left behind. He turned to Daniel. "Come on then!" He said, an encouraging smile accompanied with an extended hand for the boy to take.

Marpe eased into the water, somewhat unsure but once finding that she didn't require breath pushed her whole body through. It was a bit of a challenge but she finally managed it. It was incredible. Never had she imagined being under the water. There were multicoloured fish that she had never dreamt of before. It had amazed her so much that she was too awestruck to call out to the people they were following. Trelore while equally amazed was able to spot the two and call out to them, although it came out as a warble and nearly unrecognisable sound. But it was a sound none-the-less.

"Hey!" He called out, waving his hand.

Nathan listened to the girl's explanation of her home world, his visible expression not changing as she talked about the giant bugs and the sulfur fields. It was all amazing to hear and had thus far been the most outlandish thing he'd heard since arriving in Here. He looked over his shoulder from the very corner of his eye from time to time as to not draw attention, getting a good look at her as they went down the hall. While he initially thought she was just a human with an interest in plants and a somewhat wild imagination, a closer look made it very obvious she wasn't just quite human. Her hair was unusually smooth looking and gave off the same light as her skin that in itself didn't look the exact same as flesh and blood. Subtle differences but she'd stick out like a sore thumb back in Kurn even if she did have an almost offensively positive attitude. As he watched her a bit more he noticed some of the more subtle emotions she was displaying, even a moment of genuine sadness. The worst part was the obvious pity in her eyes that she made no attempts to hide, even when they met. It gave Nathan a bizarre mix of annoyance and appreciation he couldn't quite explain. As insulting and unnecessary the gesture was, it was never one people could afford back home. That's what made Here such an interesting place to be. As well as a painful place to stay.

When they entered the hall the girl instantly found herself enthralled with one of the pictures and without any warning she jumped right into it. Nathan sighed quietly as he closed his eyes and rubbed his forehead with a hand. "She has energy, at least. Still deciding if that's good or bad," he mumbled to himself as he leaned his back against a blank stretch of wall and waited as he continued to massage his temples, making no attempt to follow in after her. Paintings like that made him uncomfortable, stuffing people into tight or compressed space. Despite her perfectly safe was, Here still had the potential to cause worry. As he minutes ticked on by in his head he began to hear voices. He cracked one eye open as a group of three wandered right into the hall and went into the painting after Eden, paying no mind to the boy with the gas mask. "Glad to see people are just as willing to ignore me here as they are in my world," he said quietly to himself, not a trace of sarcasm in his voice.

Eden smiled happy to see new people. When Daniel mentioned being mute Eden smiled understanding. "So was I..." She looked around and realized Nathan wasn't around moving back over to the exit she pushed through and back into the hall when she landed on her face. "ow." She sat up and rubbed her nose and watched as Daniel came out into the hall as well and talked to Nathan. "That's an easy answer Daniel... Here brings people who are broken..." She rubbed her nose and blinked slightly surprised she felt no pain. "I was mute... You were mute... Nathan has been hurt by many things war is one of them I'm at least 98% sure..." She smiled. "Here brings people that have been hurt in someway... I'm not sure why... But it does and it helps fix us a little... Not all the way but it starts by fixing us physically... I think the pain mentally and in our emotionally is up to us..." Her voice was very serious while she spoke but a gentle smile broke onto her face. "That's my theory at least I have no idea if its right." She giggled and grabbed her wet hair and began squeezing out the water. To her surprise though she already seemed half way dry.

"Heh, I don't think I want to leave this place, it seems so perfect. Hey exactly what species are you? And what planet do you come from? " Daniel said this smiling and trying to paint Eden and write down the things he knew about her. Daniel kept on trying to draw her, but couldn't get it right. He went through eight pages of paper before giving up. Daniel didn't mind that his hair was wet, he actually wanted to go water to get a bit clean.
"Actually now that I think about it, who cares where here brings people from. I just want an excuse to explore things I've never seen before. Imagine this we get a chance to see many things the people on our home worlds would only dream of seeing. " Daniel thought about something deeply. " Perhaps we should set up a painting to meet at in case we get split up? Or to meet up with each other to discuss things we found out, heck I could even make a place to write down our discoveries in case we find something we want to share with each other. It's too bad some of the things I wrote down were ruined and turned into a blob of ink. This is no time to be sad though, we should see what here has to offer to us. " Daniel ruffled his hair trying to get the bit of water that was in his hair out of it. He had some scissors so he cut off some of his hair that was bothering him. Daniel got out his Ipod, he was lucky he didn't bring it out in the water or else it would have been short circuited. He then put on his headphones and started listening to music with a smile on his face. He then remembered there were people next to him and offered to put his Ipod on speaker. " Do you guys want to listen to music too? "

Nathan saw someone jump out out of the sea painting and was somewhat surprised to see not Eden but one of the strangers who had decided to jump up after her, a human looking boy with a notebook that took no notice of him for a second or two before their eyes met. He introduced himself as Daniel and asked for Nathan's name in return. Before he could say anything, the other boy asked about his appearance as he was interested if he was in a war. Nathan gave him an empty stare out of the corner of his eyes as he shifted slightly against the wall. After a few moments of silence the boy changed his mind and took back wanting to know about where he was from. A few more second ticked by before Nathan spoke though he could only imagine it wasn't the answer the boy had been looking for. "The next time you decide to ask someone a someone a question that's obviously sensitive, at least have the courtesy to see it all the way through," he said in a cold, straight voice as he stared at him unblinkingly.

And as if to break the subtle tension in the air, Eden came rocketing out of the picture and faceplanted the floor, a tiny ouch coming out of her. She got up quickly and began explaining her thoughts on Here and what the purpose of it was, going as far as to mention that she still wasn't sure was exactly wrong with Nathan. A perhaps not so subtle attention grabber. As she began drying out here hair, the other boy began to speak again. He asked Eden about her home world and, yet again, changed his mind about knowing. Not saying a word, Nathan listened as Eden and her new friend make plans for if they wanted to meet up again or they got separated. When Daniel offered them music, Nathan closed his eyes before he spoke. "Of all the dead age technology you could bring Here, you brought a pretty useless one," he muttered, not really giving an answer.

Eden blinked at the music device. "We... We don't have music on my planet... It attracts to many bugs..." She gave a nervous sad smile. Eden turned to Nathan. "Would you stop being such a sour puss already." Anger flared in Eden. The sunflower rarely got angry but when she did it was... Wild. Her gold eyes flickered to an angry amber as she glared right into Nathan's eyes. "I get it you over dramatic meat person THING! You had a tough life bad memory's your broken on the inside and out... But you don't have to drag it everywhere you go... Imagine if everyone saw the world the way you do... Nothing... nothing would ever get done... because no one would hope for anything good anymore... Like when a fire burns down a forest... if no seedlings try to grow again try to give life and beauty to what is desolate... it will stay desolate... But if one seedling try's and pushes from ash others will try also... And if they all try a forest can grow back again..." She sighed.

"My home planet is a terrible place... everyone judges each other by what flower they are... I'm just a sunflower... Nothing special they always said... And I could not even talk so they labeled me an idiot... I never learned to read or write or... or anything... All I ever got to do was watch other people fight the bugs and die... or I got to look as they judged me... I'm not sure what your past was like Nathan... But if you wanted I bet you could have a really good happy future." She softened and sighed heavily. "So do me a favor? Try and smile and lighten up because even when a forest burns down the trees and the world around is covered in ash... Someone has to be the stronger person and push through." She frowned again. "So stop being so hostile to other people who just want to find a tiny piece of hope to grow also.." She rung out her hair and started walking down the hallway. "Il... See you guys later maybe..."

Eden walked down the hall barefoot. Her fiery anger raged for awhile before slowly dimming down. She frowned upset with herself. Was she too harsh? Had she just snapped and ranted out of her own anger and sadness bottled up for years... Maybe it was that and actual anger? Probably... But maybe it would make Nathan stop looking at her like she was some airhead idiot. Eden wasn't stupid even if people called her that... She was just... Lonely, angry she could never do more. And a little frightened. She turned down the hall and kept walking. Her heart and mind felt like a fire that had been drowned then half sparked to life. She hated getting angry but... Sometimes she needed it? She stopped took a deep breath and exhaled. A smile gently formed on her lips. If she stayed positive and apologized later... Maybe things would be alright... But not now... For now she just needed... To walk. And so she did.

Nathan was taken aback at Eden's sudden change in attitude as she turned to him and began belittling the way he'd been acting. Though he could hardly agree with what she had to say, he couldn't help but be impressed and even a bit guilty as she chewed him out. He did his best to not let any of his thoughts show on the surface, waiting for her to turn and leave before even moving. His eyes snapped open as he pushed himself away from the wall and crossed his arms in front of him. "Guess she has a lot more to her than she let on," he mumbled to himself as he turned and walked after her, telling Daniel as he passed, "Finish that map, try not to get lost and don't touch any paintings that look strange or unusual. Our bodies might be safe here but some things aren't meant to be understood by all." Without even stopping he went off the way the girl had went, following to where he'd seen her go until she'd disappeared. There was almost no trace of which way she'd gone and blindly wandering through Here could lead to you being lost for hours. Luckily the sunflower girl wasn't human and she'd left a very obvious trail in the air. Not something the five senses could follow. Good thing Nathan wasn't limited to just the five.

Nathan followed the trail that stuck to the air as he followed the route step for step, checking and double checking he was going the right way constantly. After a while he finally found her, wandering around blindly and apparently deep in thought. He waited a moment before speaking, thinking his words through carefully before he brought attention to himself. "I've never seen a forest. Not a real one anyway. In my home, trees are nothing but petrified hunks of dead matter poking out of the ground." He paused as he closed his eyes again and sighed before continuing, a hint of sorrow edging into his voice. "There was a war long before I was born. Before my father was born. Men and women tearing the world apart as they tried to take everything the world had to offer. In the end, they were all left dead and the world they wanted was broken." He began to pace around in a circle as he continued. "The land the war destroyed isn't able to handle even the simplest forms of life. Every acre of land that was even close to the damage struggles to handle grass. What crops we do plant, grow and harvest are only just barely worth the effort to get them... the seasons that they live through." His eyes opened again, an intense glint in them as his voice went cold again. "Long before I was even born, those seedlings were you mentioned were dead and gone. We never got a chance to regrow that forest. We just built homes atop the ash and pray that the wind doesn't blow them away." He suddenly stopped his tracks as his eyes fell to the floor as he spoke quietly. "Maybe you're right about one thing. I am negative. Maybe that's just because I've never seen any good in the world with my own eyes. But don't get me wrong." He pulled his head back up as he gave Eden an almost amused look as he shook his head. "You're still dead wrong about me. I'm not broken. Just a little damage."

Eden was off in her thoughts when she heard Nathan. She knew it was him by the stiffness in his footsteps. She waited until he appeared and she gave him time to say his bit. When he was done she smiled gently. "Fine... Your a little damaged." She moved over and before Nathan could pull away forced him into what had to be the most awkward hug of eternity. It was... Actually Eden's first hug. On her own planet people avoided her like plague afraid they could catch whatever she had. She waited what she thought was a reasonable amount of time and let him go. She then stepped back and grinned. "You know... even if things seem bad now... I bet things can get better... And who knows if you keep trying... You might be able to revive the land..." She began walking down the hall making sure Nathan followed. "On my own home planet half the world is nearly destroyed by the bugs... And we thought it was gone for sure... parts were diseased destroyed burned... It was a waste land... Even before my birth they were trying to fix what they could... And allot of the people thought it was hopeless..." She smiled mysteriously. "I went there everyday where the ground was gray and hurt and I planted a seed... Before I came here... a tiny sprout had grown..." She looked at Nathan. "Things are always more tough before they get better... But with good people like you Nathan... I think your home will be fixed you just need to remember to smile more and not act like any minute the world is gonna fall apart... Even if it does its ok... It's ok if you smiled and lived and made friends..." She looked at the roof. "I never had a friend honestly... But if I die or my world falls apart... I think it would still be ok... No one would miss me so no one would have to cry or be sad... But I also know it would be ok because I kept trying and I lived... and I laughed... and I managed to make one sproutling grow... in a world so dead and hopeless." She looked at Nathan. "Were not all that different you know... I just smile more and glow... And your just a big rock on the outside but I bet your nice on the inside... And past that scary looking thing on your face... Seriously what is that even... It freaks me out." She arched an eye brow and eyed the contraption contemplating its purpose and odd design that made her feel... Well not at ease.

Nathan wasn't sure was what more surprising at this point: Eden's sudden flare of anger towards him, her surprisingly sad and touching words after he'd found her again or the sudden hug she forced onto him out of the blue. This definitively stirred some obvious emotion from him though it was hard to tell if it was good or bad. He lifted his arms up and away from her as his back went completely stiff, practically no movement occurring other than the odd and somewhat violent twitch in his right eye. While his mostly hidden face made it hard to tell exactly must have been going through his head, what was visible made it pretty obvious that he was shocked by the ordeal. Of course Nathan could hardly help himself. Pleasant physical contact aside from a greeting handshake was a rare and intimate thing back home. The last person who'd done something like this was his mother back when he was still just a kid and she was still alive. A few seconds ticked on by for what felt like an eternity before Eden let go of him. Nathan lowered his arms and let out a deep breathe that he hadn't realized he'd been holding, the mask making it sound dull and odd. He was honestly not sure if he should apologize or ask for one at that point.

It seems like the short time the two had spent apart was more than enough for Eden to get her spark back as she began to go on about bettering the world and one's self, ever the optimist. Though he kept his eyes steady, Nathan was frowning under the mask. Not because he was bothered by her continuing attempts to make him feel better but how wrong she was about so much of it. Even if Nathan had the will to change the world for the better, he knew that he didn't have the time to make any of it a reality. Eden still assumed he'd simply been injured or crippled in some way like her and the others. She didn't know that his burden in his own world was that he was dying. Somehow her not knowing made the words cut all the deeper. Luckily she managed to break out of her surprisingly dark speech with an utterly silly note as she pointed out his mask. Nathan lightly held onto one of the nozzles and tugged it lightly. "It's a gas mask. During the war people used a lot of bizarre weapons. Poisons transferred through the air was just one way. I scaveneged it when it was younger and I..." There was the briefest of pauses before Nathan finished his sentence. "I'd been needing it for the last few days before I arrived Here." The illness that had been - and was technically still in some way or another - eating away at him had been quick to do a number on his immune system. The mask had been there just so that he couldn't breathe something very common that would end up killing him. Of course he didn't need it Here. Or at least not for the same reasons....

Eden could tell her words hit a point with Nathan. She frowned. "Sorry for all the awkwardness... And cheerfulness... And the rants." She frowned. "Oh and the hug it was my first hug people on my planet thought I was sick and deformed. But I kinda like hugs there warm..." She sighed. "I just don't like seeing people give up... And you look like you already have..." She frowned. "I really don't wanna see you give up... Cause one day I hope to be your friend." She hopped in front of Nathan and kept walking backwards. "So will you be my friend? If you say no first its ok il keep bugging you." She grinned and spun before continuing on her way. "I also wont stop bugging you until you don't give up anymore... Giving up is easy and I bet you have a reason to why... And a good one... But maybe while your Here... you can be happy." She looked up at the ceiling. "Hey... do you think maybe were here cause were dead? What if this place is like Limbo... Hm... Dead... That's kinda sad... but I'm here with nice people so... It not too bad... I probably go murdered... Or maybe me being mute meant something else was wrong with me... Well lots was... Hmmmm." Her eyes widened. "OH NO I'M SORRY! I'm ranting and now I've probably made you sad." She sighed. "I'm sorry I think to much im such a mess."

Nathan followed behind Eden at a leisurely pace, still trying to figure out if she was suppose to be annoying or endearing at this point though he had to admit that he was leaning towards the latter. If anything he had to appreciate her sheer stubborn will as she seemed to never drop something she's got her eye on. She seemed the type that even if Nathan hadn't gone after her, she would have come back just to apologize and try to get him to smile though catching site of it would be futile even if it did happen. Then again she seemed far more concerned in seeing some sign of his happiness, yet another bizarre quality she possessed. As they made their way down the hall, Nathan began messing with his hair idly with one hand as he spoke to her. "First things first, stop apologizing all the time. Something tells me you don't really regret trying to cheer me up or hugging me and it'll take a lot more than an empty theory to upset me. On that note, I'm pretty sure you're wrong anyways. If we had died, chances are we'd remember something about it. Besides, the afterlife is a bad joke anyways." Nathan paused for a moment to let out another one of his infamous deep sighs before continuing, a slight strain in his voice. "Listen, kid. Eden. Whatever. No offense but I'm not the kind of person you really want as a friend nor do I really want one. And stop assuming I'm some kind of depressed reject who's lost all will to live or something! Just because somebody doesn't have a reason to smile all the time doesn't mean they're tearing themselves apart on the inside." Nathan stopped messing with his hair as he dug his hands into his pockets again and looked off to the side at the passing paintings. "And get use to having these kind of conversations if you're gonna keep following me and saying that kinda stuff."
