APPEARANCE

Hair Color: Black

Eye Color: Red

Description: Risaya is described by those who have seen her as “a perfect yet illusionary and ephemeral beauty.” What they meant by that, no one knows as no human was able to remember her after their experience with her. She is a young girl with red eyes and black hair tied into a half up. She is 5’8 and weighs in at 45 kg. Her three sizes are 77, 57, 80.

Combat Attire: She wears a black fur jacket over a white top with black frills, navy blue short shorts and long brown boots every time she takes on a request. On rare occasions though, especially when she comes from school, she wears her regular uniform.

Notable Features: Risaya bears the mark of her father’s rank on the nape of her neck, obscured by her hair.

Accessories: She has no notable accessories on her but her office has a lot of weird devices, trinkets and shenanigans.

STATE OF MIND

Likes: Sweets, taking strolls, napping, research and watching TV.

Dislikes: Head-on fighting, strong sunlight, scammers and people who don’t pay up.

Preference: Mixed
"I don't mind either gender, as long as you can catch my attention..."

Personality:Risaya is a rather eccentric and enigmatic person. Sadistic, proud, elegant and calculative, she carries all the traits of your usual noblewoman yet at the same time, comes with some unique aspects that sets her apart. She loves tinkering with various objects as well as synthesizing, leading to her office to be filled with various trinkets by which not all are useable. She can be very loose with money, as she buys anything that catches her interest on impulse that can lead to her being broke for some time.

She can be a bit playful at times and constantly teases other people around her yet at the same time, carries a mysterious air around her due to her secretive nature. She isn't one to really establish strong relationships and is noted to cut ties with people she's met rather quickly, keeping only a few friends close to her.

What do you think of your angelic parents?: "I don't know. I've never met him to either to hate him or like him."

EQUIPMENT

Weapons: Aside from the vast assortment of spells at her disposal, Risaya has a weird armament known as “Scylla’s Box”. It is a large briefcase containing a powerful, unnamed familiar. This familiar is serpentine in appearance, with 8 eyes, six, bat-wings and several spikes around its body. Aside from that, she can also infuse some thread that she carries with her with magic, forming strong binding tools that can tie down hold at least five tonnes.

Close Range: Not exactly Risaya’s strongest asset; she prefers spells as opposed to fighting with weapons. She has some knives just in case.

Fighting Style: Risaya is a spellcaster first and a fighter last. She doesn’t like engaging her opponents head-on, which has deemed some of those she has fought to call her a coward. She is rather fluent with a blade but she prefers to use her magic rather than to take her chances by fighting them head on.

Abilities: Risaya is an Evoker and Alchemist, with her two disciplines balanced so she can be considered above average at both but not really exceptional to the point that she can be called a prodigy or genius. She also has knowledge of other useful spells that act as backup. She has an affinity with fire, and her mana composition has a deviation towards the Kaleidoscope or parallel worlds.

Alchemy – One of her two major disciplines. She can bend and reform matter at will, based on her experience and knowledge. She can forge all sorts of equipment, devices and armaments from existing raw materials without the need for advanced manufacturing capabilities of industrial machines.

Evocation – Her other major discipline. With this ability, Risaya is able to summon a variety of familiars and beings from other dimensions. While she isn’t an expert that can summon any creature she wants, in any quantity, she has created a rather unorthodox way of using it. She uses it in the form of the Scylla’s Box.

Rune Magic – To avoid cramming a lot of knowledge into her mind, Risaya had opted to focus on Rune-based Thaumaturgy. This comes in handy as she uses it to set up fields and traps, as a form of offensive spell and for healing purposes. Downsides of this is that Runes take up more time to set up, consumes more mana and are only active as long as the Runes are in place. Erasing them is enough to shut it down.

Witchcraft – An ancient and outdated form of Magic that predates modern Thaumaturgy and Magecraft. It is used for instilling curses as well as making concoctions with varying effects. It is the lowest form of craft and discipline; an amateur spellcaster can easily learn this within a month. Being outdated and inferior to other disciplines, one can’t help but wonder what she uses it for.

HISTORY

Personal Background: Risaya had a rather complicated family background. Her mother was a woman, descended from a line of magic while her father was a normal businessman. Her father was unable to bear any children so the fallen angel Kokabiel stepped in. Kokabiel left shortly after, leading her father to think that the child was his. Due to a crisis at work, she was sent away to some relatives who had a tendency to beat her up and treat her badly. Her real family took her back in when she was 7. Her mother had taught her most of her magic while she learned the rest by herself.

When she was 12, her parents died on a road accident, leaving her as the sole heir of the family property. With her other relatives tricking and betraying each other to get the wealth, Risaya was thrust into chaos and uncertainty. She eventually left, unable to bear it any longer, somehow, managing to find her way into an institute that trains people like her in the areas of magic.

It is unknown what happened to her after that but, she eventually came back to the city, six years later. She cut all ties with her old clan and bought a decrepit and run-down five-storey building with her own money and set up an office there. Currently, she does a variety of jobs that could be as simple as finding missing people or looking for leads, to sinister ones like curses and assassination, to the downright weird like helping out with film productions.
Her office is a low-profile area, with a powerful Bounded Spell to keep people away. The only way people will be able to find it, is if they have the resolve to look for it.

Friends: Shino Ryuunosuke
"Handy, all-around, makes good coffee and good at the tasks I ask her to do. What more could I possibly want from a friend?"

Family: The fallen angel Kokabiel is the only living relative she has.
"My other relatives must have probably killed each other by now..."

Enemies: TBA

"Ugh, it's raining again."

In a particularly busy street in the dark city, the red-haired man growled to himself. Falling drops of cold water were battering his head and body as he turned to his companion, a seemingly oblivious looking girl.

"Hey, you! Put this on, you'll catch a cold in this rain."

Lifting the fedora off his head, he dropped his hand down on the girl's head. She shifted from foot to foot and looked up at him. "Aren't you going to catch the cold instead?"

"No, don't worry about me. Either ways, we can't sleep on a rooftop or a tree in this state. We gotta find shelter somehow."

"....We're splitting up again to look."

"You know me too well. So what are you waiting for? Go."

Before Sayaka moved, Sai had already disappeared into the bustling crowd, leaving the awkward girl standing there like a fish out of water. Sighing, she turned to the other side and pushed past, her figure finally disappearing.

A few hours of searching had tired her out as she leaned against a wall heavily.

"This city is too big and dangerous for someone like me."

Suddenly her phone started ringing and buzzing. Pulling it out, she looked at the caller ID.

"Hello?"
"I found us a place to stay. Don't worry, I got everything covered."
"Cool. Where?"
"Look up."

She saw the man smirking at her with the phone raised to his ear. A little feeling of frustration grew inside her as she tucked her phone in, took out something else-

And hurled it at the other, actually managing to nick him on the forehead.

After a while, Sayaka felt awkward again. Sitting on the bed, she looked down at the floor.

"You alright there?"
"....I'm not used to these luxuries."
"Bah, of course you aren't. You slept in a capsule almost half of your life and when you first ran away from me I found you sleeping in a tree."
"The second time I found you, you were bleeding out in an alley."
"...Touche."

Sai looked out the window, sighing.
"Are you sure we haven't got any jobs at all?"
"None. But I heard some detective's been on our race's tail for quite a while now."

The Cambion looked over at his accomplice.
"Do you want me to kill him or something?"
"No, I'm just saying. Besides, you kill to live. You need money. And the prices for assassination are quite high- And you know I'm pretty much dead broke."
"Who knows?"

"The night's so young, don't you think?"

"Well then, Mr. Cambion, what do you want to do?"

Beep! Beep! Beep!

Allan brought a hand up and rubbed at his tired mug, the alarm clock having woken him with it's persistent beeping. He rose from the bed and sleepily pawed at the electronic device, hitting miscellaneous buttons before the right one was pressed bringing the beeping to an end.

As he stood he shrugged the blankets off him, leaving them in a crumpled pile on the bed. He was about to get started with his morning routine but he was suddenly onset by a powerful yawn lasting quite long. When he was finished he looked over at the clock to see the time he had to get to work in. It was currently seven thirty in the evening. He needed to get to work by nine so he had set his clock to wake him up with a decent amount of time to get to the mall where he worked as the night security guard.

Roughly half an hour later

After a meager breakfast of leftover macaroni & cheese he had gotten dressed and ready to hit the road. He stepped from his apartment before shutting and locking the door behind him and went over to the elevator, hitting the down button which called up the elevator. After a bit of rumbling, sounding akin to a penny trapped in an active washing machine, the elevator stopped at his floor. The doors slid open to reveal the rusty and somewhat stained interior of a worn down elevator. Lucky for Allan the elevator was empty. It was not uncommon for the elevator to be rather unaccommadated in the later hours of the day. He went inside and hit the ground floor button, the doors shutting closed rather noisily.

Stepping out from the elevator he made his way out onto the street. Unfortunately Allan had yet to get his driving license so he was stuck with walking to work. Walking may take longer for him than taking the bus but the time he'd save was negligible since the nearest bus stop was at least a ten minute walk in the opposite direction from his work. On the plus side there was a cafe between his apartment and the North Quarantize City Mall. As he came around the halfway point between work and home he stopped at that very cafe like he does every night he works. There was a nice young lady who usually worked the cashier around these times. She was a year younger than him and was working here mainly since it was one of the few places that would hire a young student. She's seen him enough times to pretty much know exactly what he wants to order from there. It wasn't very difficult since his order was simple and he loathed to differ from it.

Hi Allan. One large black coffee like usual?"

"Yup." No real surprises from Allan here. He tapped his credit card to the screen which picked up the card's chip signal and made the payment instantly. Not even a minute later he picked up his coffee from the pleasant girl and went on his way to work.

Some time in the night

The mall definitely had an eerie silence to it. Down in his wing he rarely saw another soul in sight. Quite frankly this was a great job for him. No one was bothering or even talking to him for that matter. It was just him, his rather colorful mind and of course his superpowers. There were cameras of course but they didn't move and he knew where they all faced so he could practice without being caught. Leaning up against a wall down in the food court he glanced at his hand, turning it back and forth. With little else but a desire his whole arm was glowing a brilliant sky blue. The glow was radiating out from beneath the skin, the tissue between the light and the outside world a translucent shadow.

He ventured over to the other side of the food court. Up against the wall between two fast food joints was a soda vending machine. He always thought the 'Do not tip or rock the vending machine' sign was funny for a particular reason. With the power within channeling through his body he reached underneath the rather weighty machine and picked it up with ease. Holding it with two hands he decided to shift the center of the machine over onto his left hand and then withdraw the other. He now had the vending machine balanced on one hand over his head. "Right. Now down to business." He spoke his thought out loud even though no one but him could hear. He started pumping the vending machine up and down with his left hand like it was a large awkward gym weight.

"Four... Five... Si-Woah!" His count was interrupted as the vending machines was suddenly compromised. It started with a very slight wobble. As the machine wobbled his hand moved to try and keep the balance of the machine but wound up over-correcting and causing the vending machine to shake even more. By that point momentum set in sending the machine falling away from his hold. He tried to catch it before it hit the ground but at the speed at which this all took place he was simply an inch short and a second late as it hit the ground with a loud clang. "Well... Crap." He swore in a low voice to avoid drawing any more attention than he might of grabbed already. He looked around to see if any of the other guards were nearby. There was no one to be seen.

Wiping a slight bit of nervous sweat from his forehead he propped the vending machine back up and observed the damage. One of the corners was damaged and it was leaking a fluid he didn't recognize. "Okay... I think I can fix this." He was once again talking to himself out loud. He used his strength to smooth out the crushed corner so that it looked square enough. He really didn't know what to do about the fluid and there was no duct tape in sight so he just set the vending machine back up against it's wall and walked away acting innocent. "Well, I did what I could." He assured himself as he meandered away from the scene of the incident.

That's when he heard it. The sounds coming from the one shop down the hall left from the food court. It was an old curio shop which sold various old and interesting things. He was never really interested in what the shop had in stock, mostly passing it by without a second thought. Right now though he was interested in it for a different reason. He realized that he might of heard footsteps earlier while he was screwing around with the vending machine and now he could hear something moving stuff about. Internally he gave a deep sigh. He really didn't want anything to happen tonight or any other night for that matter. Something happens in his job it always means paperwork. He hated paperwork.

As quietly as he could he unlocked the front mesh blocking the entrance of the shop from the rest of the mall. He had to assume that the potential thief or whatever it might be had come in through the back door. There was no real way to move the metal mesh panels quietly but he did what good he could do, sliding the panels aside and slipping through the narrow space he opened. The panels rattled when they got moved and now the sound of items being moved had suddenly stopped. Slowly creeping forward Allan snuck up towards the source of where the sound was coming from last. As he came around a stand he saw...

Quarantize City. A city where all sorts of souls converge. And it's not just any old soul that is currently moving about in this normal plane of existence. Several different beings have taken roost here.
An old, run-down building. Different people see it differently. For some it appears like a relic of a time forgotten. To others, it was just a ghost of the time when Quarantize was in its Golden Age, with buildings being constructed left and right. Rumors about this office abound as well. Some say that it is a drug laboratory while others think that it was an armory for some armed thugs roaming around the street at night. No one ever bothered to check it out, regardless. People would simply not give any thought about it upon seeing it or avoid it altogether. Right, for them, this building doesn't exist. There was nothing special about it aside from completing the landscape.
Well, of course, this being Quarantize City, almost every corner has a story to tell and this building is no exception. Oddly enough, most stories here starts with someone screaming--

"AAAAAHHHHHH!!!! What do you mean I'm not getting any pay for this month???!!!"
Shino walked over to her employer's desk, slamming her fists onto the table. She found it quite unfair that her pay is docked for this month. This rarely happens so one could probably understand why she's getting all worked up about it.
"It's just as I said. I'll pay you in a week's time so just be patient."
"How come? I just saw 5,000,000.00 got transferred to your account when we made that inquiry at the bank!"
"50,000. You added a couple of zeroes."
"Then how did you spend that much in just a span of a couple of days?!"
"Well, I suppose you'll see it soon so--"
Risaya took out a large, classic style chess set from her desk, dusting off some dirt that accumulated on it. She set it down on the table and opened it to inspect the pieces. The pieces aren't made simply like the much more modern and cheaper sets but, it was carved out of wood, with intricate details where one can see how the pieces actually look like.
"This set is very old. The seller told me that it was from the early 18th century. Well, that was the time when magical study was beginning to prosper so who knows? This set may contain powerful traces of sorcery embedded in it. You can see from the way the pieces are individually carved---"
"I don't care about lengthy explanations. Just get straight to the point."
"It happened to be on sale so I bought it."
Shino sighed and shrunk back to the couch in the center of the room.
"How will I pay my rent and utilities now?"
"Calm down. Look, there is another job offer that we got."
Shino got up at the sound of the word "job" and walked over beside her employer's table, glancing at the folder and files she took out from beneath her other records.
"The client wants to us to look for a man named Ayers Mackenzie and bring him under police protection. He witnessed something but, our client refused to elaborate much further. He was last seen around the North boulevard so you can try asking around there."
"Okay, I'm off."
Shino took the paper that contains the information she needs and walked over to the door. Risaya called out to her and threw something at her. She caught it and placed it in her pocket.
"I've fixed the compass. Try to be careful with it."
"Okay boss."
"Oh, and Shino?"
"What is it? Risaya-san~?"
"Can I borrow some money?"
Shino walked away and slammed the door, her hopes of getting at least a small stipend crushed. Sighing, Risaya turned to the laptop in front of her and continued her conversation with the client.
"You sure about that? I can send in some down payment if you need it."
"Never mind that. Well, what were you saying about an accident?"
"I'm beginning to doubt that it's just an accident. The car was intact but, the body was mauled beyond definition. That witness may be the key here but it's likely that we're dealing with something not of this world, so I thought of calling you guys. So, think you're up for it?"
"I suppose. I normally wouldn't do this if only I didn't need the money."
"Headquarters may assign other detectives to work on this case so I need you to hurry, if you still want the full amount to be paid."
"We'll try but it won't be easy."
The clouds outside finally changed color and a downpour started. Faint sounds of thunder echoed all throughout the office, hampering the mood somehow.
"What do you mean it won't be easy?"
"Well sir, it is hard to solve a murder that took place in a moving sealed room after all..."

Funny how misconceptions abound this city. A simple curious soul can be mistaken as a killer, an innocent girl may be a hidden monster, and some monsters are actually nice for a change. In this city, it is hard to find someone to trust. Every second, someone gets stabbed in the back. Motive? No one knows.

As Shino finished up her noodles, she took a good look around her surroundings. Her pursuers, if they were still pursuing her, were nowhere in sight yet. She decided that it would be best to get out while she still can. Picking up her stuff, she made her way cautiously to the door when a girl caught her eyes.
"She looks weird. She doesn't seem like she's from around here. A foreigner, maybe?"
Just then, she felt the sharp fluctuation of her compass detector. She took it out and saw the arrow pointing to the girl. She quickly hid it again and walked outside.
"Magical energy? Coming from a human? It's almost impossible. But--"
While still thinking about it, she immediately hailed a cab and got inside, telling instructions to the driver to get to her apartment. She wondered more about that girl in the shop.
"She looked more like one of those dolls that Boss makes. But, since the compass fluctuated, could she possibly be a Nephilim or a Cambion?"
She had no way to tell, and that's causing her unease. She would have loved to stay and chat to find out more but, with some people looking for her, it wasn't exactly a luxury she could afford. She glanced back behind the cab just to make sure if she had really lost her pursuers since the traffic is already getting worse. She seemed to see a couple of men arrive at the intersection near the noodle shop but, since the cab was moving, she couldn't tell any notable features. Nevertheless, the feeling of unease stayed with her until she reached her apartment.

"If you don't mind, can you wait for me a bit? I'll pay you extra. I'll just get a few things and then I'll tell you where to go."
The driver agreed and Shino proceeded inside her room. She took most of her valuables and personal belongings and stuffed it in a bag. She also changed her clothes and left the old ones here. Locking up her flat, she ran back to the cab and asked him to take her to the Fujyou Highlights near the Oriental side of Quarantize. There is only one safe place she can think of hiding.

Knock, knock, knock, knock!
Shino furiously banged the door of Risaya's main office. Her boss came out, decked in a red night gown, rubbing the sleep off her eyes.
"Oi! What are you doing here?! It's already nighttime mind you!"
Without letting her finish, Shino stormed in and tossed the bag on the table while walking to the sofa and curling up there. Her employer locked the doors and approached her.
"What's the matter? Why did you come back?"
"I ran into some trouble earlier, and now--this is probably the only place where I can be safe."
"Tch, you and your antics. Go ahead and sleep there. Just don't wake me up again."
Risaya walked back to her room, leaving Shino in the living room all by herself. She left the lights on in case Shino needs something. After a few minutes, she got up and decided to do a bit of research on her assignment. She booted up the laptop and accessed the files for her assignment.
"There was a murder downtown wherein a high-profile businessman was killed in his own car. Upon investigation, his body was horribly mauled and mutilated, his ID and the DNA tests the only proof that the carcass belonged to the businessman. The car was locked when the police investigated it, ruling out any foul play within or external assault. There is however, a large crack on the windshield where a large bullet may have gone through though, there weren't any bullets uncovered at the crime scene. Some locals claim that he was probably another victim of "Big Sniper", a notorious killer in this city..."
Shino flipped to the next page, remembering the Big Sniper rumor. Supposedly, this was a vigilante that sprung up around four years ago and started killing off some corrupt and vile people by sniping them. How much of it is true, well, Shino doesn't know.
"The only witness was an unemployed man by the name of Ayers Mackenzie though, no one was able to find him as of yet. He does hang out a lot on North Boulevard though. I'll visit there tomorrow."
Shino shut off the laptop and threw her body on the comfortable sofa there. She felt secure in the fact that no one can find this building easily.
"Ahhh!!! I hope the whole mess blows over by tomorrow!"
"Would you stop screaming?!"
Risaya complained from her bedroom against the loud noise. Shino muttered a quick apology and slept there, using a blanket she got from the chairs.

Jason nodded his head with a smirk at the acceptance of his offer, but was a bit surprised to see the guard walk ahead of him, pointing out where he thought the suspect ran before moving at a speed level below jogging. He must of really wanted to catch this guy; his job could be on the line.

Jason jogged until he caught up with him and started moving the same pace, keeping an eye out for anything significant. The sound of their footsteps on the concrete below and a passing car every now and then was the only noise heard for a moment until Jason decided it was time to answer his question.

"So... uh," Jason searched for the man's name tag, forgetting that they hadn't introduced themselves yet. He quickly spotted it and tried to remember it: Allan Denton.

"Allan, right? Name's Jason Tetrick. Just thought I should get those introductions out the way." He introduced as he flicked the now finished cigarette into a nearby trashcan.

"To answer your question from earlier, Nephlims and Cambions have been around for a long time, but they become more active at night. Believe it or not, Nephlims are half angel, while Cambions are half demon."

He let that first bit of information sink in before continuing.

"A lot of them can blend into society, but some just prefer to stay hidden until the city sleeps. They've been at war for a long time, and I've taken a personal stake in trying to get to the root of the fighting, and see if there's anything I can do to stop it. I may be way over my head, but I just want to help keep this conflict under control, and stop if from spreading to the general public."

After several more steps, Jason spotted his 4-door grey sedan parked neatly over the side of the road. "There's my car." He pointed out.

He dug into his pockets until he found his keys and shut off the alarm before opening the door and stepping in.

"Get in, this is faster than walking."

Jason turned on the engine and headlights and waited for Allan to get settled before pulling away from the curb, and heading the direction where the thief disappeared off to.

"Now, Nephlims and Cambions can have a variety of abilities," He continued. "They aren't very predictable. I've seen super speed and strength, heightened senses, fire or other elements, and even ice powers today. Pretty crazy stuff 'eh? I hope you don't think i'm crazy yet, but you saw proof earlier."

As Jason turned a corner he saw a noodle shop, one of the only places open this late. The thought crossed his mind of stopping there and asking questions, but he saw a figure similar to what they saw earlier step outside. Small-ish frame with a hoodie, and looked kind of paranoid. Could that be them? It was too dark to make out too many details, but when he saw them get in a cab, he knew he had to follow. If this was the right person, he couldn't let them get away.

"I think I found them, but we need to tail them to be sure. Do me a favor,"

Jason reached into his pocket and handed him his notepad and pen.

"Can you write a reminder to come back here later? You know, in case this is the wrong one."

When the cab pulled away, Jason tailed it, staying several car lengths behind the whole time.

"Looks like I have to tell you more later. I have to focus."

Jason was used to tailing people, so he felt at ease tailing this one. As long as he stayed at a good distance and didn't look suspicious, they would be fine.

After following the cab for a bit, it stopped at an apartment and the suspect got out the cab, but it didn't leave. Jason pulled over and shut of his headlights. To his surprise, they came out with different clothes on, and they were off again. Ah, the classic swap clothes to avoid suspicion tactic. Jason was used to suspects pulling this stunt too, but he had to commend the thief of thinking of it.

"Jot down this address too. It could be their home, or hideout." He ordered.

When he was wondering how long this would last, they entered a somewhat old area of the city. The cab dropped of the thief in front of an old run down building. Jason once again pulled over and shut off his headlights.

The door opened for the thief after banging on it, and someone answered. He couldn't see who they were talking to from this angle, but they let them in regardless.

"Bingo." Jason smirked and shut off his engine.

He stepped out of the car and opened the trunk, revealing a case hidden within. After opening it with a -click-, he pulled out his stun gauntlets, and removed his trench coat before slipping them on.

"They could have a lot of friends in there, better safe than sorry." He said to Allan, knowing that he'd be little curious/bewildered on where the extra armor came from.

After pressing a button on it, the gauntlets crackled with a small amount of electricity. Good, they were still in good condition. He slipped his trench coat back on, hiding the gauntlets from plain sight minus the black gloves.

"Thanks for helping me so far, but this could get heavy. If you don't want to drop out, lets go knock."

Something resonated throughout the night. Normally, the place's barriers would have steered people away except for the people who were given special exceptions. The Master of the place woke up and surveyed her office on the fourth floor. Her assistant lay sleeping but, she saw a car parked outside from her window.

The girl sighed to herself. It's not everyday that people enter this place. And it's not everyday that people get out.

Risaya walked away from the window and headed to the office. Taking off that impractical piece of clothing, she slipped on her usual garb and took the suitcase with her.
"To get to this floor, they would have to go through a different series of floors, each with its own set-up."
She closed her eyes, remembering the way she set her base up.
"My office is stationed on the fourth floor. I've taught Shino how to reach me here without going through all other set-ups so, it is safe to assume that they'll have to go to the normal route. That would mean going through the first to third floors. The elevators don't work so they'll pass through the stairwell. The second floor is where my atelier lies. That's pretty dangerous considering all the obstacles in that floor. Ghosts, portals to other dimensions, tripwires and predatory familiars. But if there's one thing I cannot risk-- it's the armory."
Activating her building's cameras, she zoomed in on the two people outside the door. One seemed to be a security guard while the other looked like a detective. Zooming in, he had some sort of contraption on his hands that he concealed with his trench coat and black gloves.
"You sure have caused quite the trouble for us."
Risaya eyed at her sleeping assistant. She set up a dimensional rift at the office's front door that will teleport anyone who steps in, back outside. She passed through the same passageway she taught Shino so she won't be pestered by the traps and intercepted the intruders before they can enter the building.
"I assume you have a pretty good reason for coming here, officers."
She greeted them outside, still carrying the suitcase lest things get nasty.
"This place is private property. I don't recall calling anyone to check this out."
Two against one. Not a good situation.

"Allan, right? Name's Jason Tetrick. Just thought I should get those introductions out the way."

Jason had introduced himself to him. Allan almost forgot that he was wearing his security name tag. His hand went up and felt the small plastic card pinned to his chest before realizing as much. Ah. Makes sense. He confirmed after learning just how he had gotten his name.

"To answer your question from earlier, Nephilims and Cambions have been around for a long time, but they become more active at night. Believe it or not, Nephilims are half angel, while Cambions are half demon. A lot of them can blend into society, but some just prefer to stay hidden until the city sleeps. They've been at war for a long time, and I've taken a personal stake in trying to get to the root of the fighting, and see if there's anything I can do to stop it. I may be way over my head, but I just want to help keep this conflict under control, and stop if from spreading to the general public."

He absorbed the information he was given. It wasn't too hard for him to accept the ideas this guy was expositing. Up until now his best guess as to what this whole deal with him having super powers was had something to do with either gamma radiation or mutation. The explanation Jason had given definitely sounded like it had a lot of history behind it. A detail that didn't exactly sit well with him however was the fact that this whole spiel had an awful lot to do with the divine.

Now he didn't know if he even belonged to these groups or if this was just the tip of the iceberg of different things he could be but if in the possible circumstance he happened to be a part of one of these aforementioned groups it would mean he'd be spiritually related to them or something. That was the last thing he'd ever want. If that meant a bunch of dudes with wings or horns would show up at his door and demand he go fight or some other stupid idea then he was going to have to figure out this whole situation soon and stop it before it ropes him in somehow.

They eventually reached the guys car. "Get in, this is faster than walking." Jason had got into the drivers seat.
Allan just shrugged his shoulders. Well I'm already screwed back at work. Might as well do something with the time I'm likely not going to get paid for. He sat down in the passengers seat, putting his seat belt on as they set off.

"Now, Nephlims and Cambions can have a variety of abilities, They aren't very predictable. I've seen super speed and strength, heightened senses, fire or other elements, and even ice powers today. Pretty crazy stuff 'eh? I hope you don't think i'm crazy yet, but you saw proof earlier."

"Nah, I don't think you're crazy. As a matter of fact-" He was about to give his side of the story regarding this crazy tale of angels and demons silliness when the guy cut him off mid-sentence.

"I think I found them, but we need to tail them to be sure. Do me a favor," Jason passed a notepad and a pen over his way. "Can you write a reminder to come back here later? You know, in case this is the wrong one."

Allan noted and jotted down the information on the paper. 'Golden Palace Noodles on Main Street - Come back here or something like that I'm not exactly sure.' He wrote down those exact words.

"Right. Done. So back to what I was about to say-" Allan couldn't finish as he was once again interrupted. "Looks like I have to tell you more later. I have to focus." Jason proceeded to tail the cab of the thief they were chasing. "Right. Shutting up now." He kept silent for the rest of the ride so Jason could keep his eyes on the prize.

After some time driving about they arrived at the culprit's destination: A crappy apartment.
Because I haven't seen enough of those. He kept that sarcastic remark to himself. After a bit of waiting they saw a similar sized figure wearing different clothes step back out into the same cab. It could of just been a coincidence but it seemed much too fishy to simply let it be. Apparently the cop thought the same.

"Jot down this address too. It could be their home, or hideout." Jason ordered. '2020 King Street - Thieves Den?' He wrote that down like he was asked. Well, maybe not entirely like he was asked but he was indifferent to the small specifics.

After some more time spent carefully tailing the same cab about they came up to another building. It was a most peculiar building. The whole thing had a sort of off-putting nature to it like he wasn't supposed to be there or something to that effect. Regardless to this it seemed as though this was their final destination as they both stepped out of the car. Jason popped open his trunk to reveal a secret case housing some rather neat looking gloves. "I'm sure all the cops get issued these, right?" The question itself was rhetorical, he was just being snarky. The gauntlets crackled with electricity before the guy hid them underneath his big coat.

"They could have a lot of friends in there, better safe than sorry." Jason mentioned as he was preparing to approach the tall somewhat rugged building. Allan didn't have much to add to that so he just kept his mouth shut.

"Thanks for helping me so far, but this could get heavy. If you don't want to drop out, lets go knock." He offered him the opportunity to back out of this as they approached the door. "I've wasted a lot of time out here. If I walk away with nothing to show for it I'm gonna be downright peeved. Lets just get this over with." He stood to the right of Jason as his new acquaintance knocked on the door.

He expected there to be more than just the one guy at this location but the person who answered the door didn't exactly fit into the expectations. It was a woman that was somewhat taller than the figure they were chasing though she was still roughly ten inches shorter than him. The difference between their height was lessened by the fact that Allan usually stood slouched forward, lowering his apparent height to some extent. As for the woman she would probably be classified as lovely by many. Relatively thin, clear skin and well proportioned facial features.
She bore many features of what many would consider beautiful. Allan barely paid any notice to her appearance, more concerned with his problems than the person standing before him.

"I assume you have a pretty good reason for coming here, officers." She greeted them, incorrectly lumping him in
with Jason. "This place is private property. I don't recall calling anyone to check this out."

Allan just stood to the side and a little bit back behind Jason with his hands in his pockets while looking down at his shoes silently hoping they'll finish chatting so they can go catch the thief and return whatever he/she/it stole from the store.
After all, it was getting a bit close to his lunchtime and he was pretty hungry.

Jason knocked on the door and it was opened almost immediately. The person who answered definitely wasn't someone who he expected to see here. A young woman, with features that he could tell many people would find attractive. It reminded him of his wife Rachel, when he first met her.

"I assume you have a pretty good reason for coming here, officers. This place is private property. I don't recall calling anyone to check this out."

He mentally shook away the memories and focused again. This woman is going to want an explanation. Then again, so did he. She didn't look too happy, but the most curious thing about her was the briefcase she was holding. Why would she answer the door with it?

He cleared his throat before speaking, trying not to sound intimidating.

"Hello ma'am. My name is Detective Jason Tetrick, and this-" He pointed behind him with his thumb. "is Mall Security Allan Denton. It's late, so I'll get to the point. I was investigating a curio shop at the mall when me and Officer Denton here saw someone sneaking around. They had a small frame, and wore a hoodie. When we spotted them, they took off, running away from us. While we were chasing them, we discovered a corpse lying in the alley nearby with a hole in his chest." He explained, leaving out the detail about the ice. He didn't want to seem weird to this woman; it could only complicate things.

"So we followed them to this location. The person who entered this building a few moments ago is wanted for questioning for thievery and murder. Ma'am, these are very serious charges, and I would like to ask them a few questions to see if they're really the one responsible, of if there is a misunderstanding."

Jason's eyes took a quick glance at the briefcase, still curious about it. This was a mysterious part of town, and he personally felt a little on edge, but he hoped it was just him; the less tense the atmosphere was, the easier it was to get everything settled. Unfortunately, nothing in this situation was calm.

"So, may we please come in, ma'am? We won't be long." He finally requested.

"Please say yes and don't complicate this..." He thought, hoping he didn't get into a fight today. Who knows how many more people could be in this building, let alone if they were hostile or not.

"Damn it Shino! What did you do this time?"
Risaya cursed quietly in her mind at her assistant's carelessness. Regardless, she just can't hand her in. Time is against them and they have to find Mackenzie fast. Getting these two off her tail will prove to be a challenge.
"Personally, I find your story to be a bit odd. If you think the figure who was around that shop was responsible for both murder and theft, then it was a pretty impressive feat indeed if he managed to pull off a murder in a matter of seconds while you were chasing him."
Risaya sensed something wrong with that story. Not that her assistant was in trouble but the fact that a murder was committed, and these two enforcers of the law saw it.
"Are there more Nephilims and Cambions here than I originally thought?"
"Plus, before you can accuse that person of theft, you'd normally do an inventory check to see if anything was missing. Otherwise, how would you know that it was theft?"
She motioned for the two to enter the building with her. She was the master of the place and she can easily trick the perceptions of all manner of creatures, including angels and demons. Deceiving hybrids are easy.
"The first to third floors of this building are vacant. Look."
She showed all of the first floor area, revealing that it is indeed empty. She did the same to the second and third floors though, she had to exert some of her energy to inform her traps that she is walking by. The traps immediately deactivated, turning the whole second floor into a normal vacant area.
"The third floor was once a printing office. They moved out a few years back when the more modernized and larger skyscrapers were built in the city's central."
Of course, this was just a decoy. Her armory was concealed in a parallel set-up made possible through the Second Magic, Kaleidoscope. A powerful perception that tricks the eye. It turns a visible thing invisible, even to eyes of the other world. She led them to the fourth floor. She didn't go through the main door. Instead, she led the others around a roundabout path, with more Kaleidoscope tricks, making her office appear as a regular studio room with an office built into it.
"The fifth floor and rooftop are vacant. I mostly use it as storage and such."
She was talking to them near the coffee table and TV set. Or it appears that way. In reality, Shino was already sleeping right in front of them. Risaya knows this fact only in her mind. She as well, can't see her.
"Shall we get moving?"
She finally led them to the last two floors. It was easy to let them see everything in these last two floors since there was nothing suspicious in those places. Well, aside from the vast abundance of used TVs in the storage. Leading them to the rooftop and showing them that part was easy, since it was just one big, empty plot. After making rounds around the building, she finally led them back outside.
"Sorry for the tiring walk but, the elevators of the place don't work anymore. As you can see, there is no one else in this building but me. It would be wise to check all the other buildings aside from this one. The Fujyuo highlights were designed with symmetry in mind, so it is easy to confuse one building for the other. I can't speak for the other building since this unit is the only one I own but maybe you can get the owners to show you around if they want."
Risaya faced the two as they stood outside the building again.
"Although, don't you want to attend to that dead guy you mentioned just now? It's a bad idea to leave it lying around lest it causes public uproar."

"Personally, I find your story to be a bit odd. If you think the figure who was around that shop was responsible for both murder and theft, then it was a pretty impressive feat indeed if he managed to pull off a murder in a matter of seconds while you were chasing him."

Allan didn't react though he did take the words to consideration. It seems well possible to kill someone in a running escape though the guy seemed pretty dead by the time we passed him which wasn't too long after the other dude passed it.

"Plus, before you can accuse that person of theft, you'd normally do an inventory check to see if anything was missing. Otherwise, how would you know that it was theft?"

Ah, finally something he had some expertise in. "Continuity. We watched the thief every step of the way so there was no mistake." With the exception of one minor detail. How was he supposed to know that no items were actually taken before the moment the rogue dashed off? The time it would of taken to find out if anything was stolen would of been much too long, the one responsible being long gone by that time. Of course despite his mentioning they ignored him, continuing on the tour. Not a lot of people were listening to him today. Not a lot of people listened to him any other day either.

"The first to third floors of this building are vacant. Look."

He saw exactly as she described. Nothing but an empty place. That in itself was very suspicious. The hell would someone be doing living in a house with this much space but nothing to use it for? That's a ridiculous waste of money for taxes that's not needed. He pondered in silence as he quietly shuffled his way along with the rest of them.

"The third floor was once a printing office. They moved out a few years back when the more modernized and larger skyscrapers were built in the city's central."

And this is all hers... Why? The more she spoke the more out of place everything seemed to be. As a matter of fact, there seemed to be an elevator but they were going up the stairs. Why are we even wasting time walking about when we could just take the elevator up?

"The fifth floor and rooftop are vacant. I mostly use it as storage and such."

Gah! The amount of space available compared to the amount of space being used was obscene. If this place wasn't a front for something then he'd be short the fifty bucks he'd probably bet on this place being a front for something.

After a little while longer on their tour she started to take them back down.

The elevator doesn't work and yet she still has all this space to herself? If this isn't front material I don't know what else would be. He was already suspicious of her. If nothing else just the sheer amount of space to occupancy was well out of reasonable proportion.

"Although, don't you want to attend to that dead guy you mentioned just now? It's a bad idea to leave it lying around lest it causes public uproar."

He didn't have anything to say about that. That was Jason's field, not his. Quite frankly since they haven't found the thief by this point whoever robbed the store and possibly killed that guy must of been long gone by this point unless he or she showed up by some miracle. Given his current state of pessimism he fully believed that a miracle wasn't going to happen. He had just wasted what had to amount to at least an hour or more accomplishing nothing. He was nothing short of downright pissed off but besides his sort of general frown he kept his eyes down and his hands in his pockets all the same. He had a firm reign over his temper at this moment, something he's gotten quite good at holding after all he's put up with in life.

Red flag. A red flag popped up in almost every part of the tour. When she pointed out the lack of inventory and leaving the body in the alleyway, he couldn't help but say,

"We had no time to do those things, lest we risk losing the suspect. If we stopped to handle those details, the trail would be long gone. Also, Officer Allan is right, we followed them just about every step of the way."

Jason looked over to Allan with a smirk, wordlessly letting him know that he didn't bring him along to ignore his input. When he first joined the force, he had similar treatment until he earned the respect, but he didn't want to give the young man the same experience.

"As for the body in the alleyway, it could of been there for a few moments to a few hours when we discovered it. The one who ran from us is still a suspect. Besides, if they didn't do anything wrong, why would they run from us the second we saw them? It's too suspicious to ignore. That reason alone is a good enough reason for questioning."

Jason laid out his reasons carefully. None of the reasons he had were too strong or enforced, but he knew in his gut that he was doing the right thing. The body still had enough mystery around it that any kind of hypothesis could be true, but this suspect had too much suspicion on them to ignore. Jason felt his adrenaline starting to rise, the feeling he always gets when he knows he's on to something. As in, something wrong with this building, and the suspicion of this woman herself. His red flags were waving their own red flags as they screamed into a microphone with the volume all the way up.

"Actually ma'am, I'm kinda curious about this building."

Jason folded his arms and closed his eyes as he remembered everything that this woman had showed them about this location, his mind darting back and forth to every detail he absorbed. The empty floors, the only one who lived here, the broken elevators, too much space for one person, and the 4th and 5th floors were the only ones in use; with once again broken elevators. He was going to have a field day with this one.

After opening his eyes, he mumbled "Something's not right."

He pulled out a cigarette and lit it, placing it in his mouth to calm him down a bit.

"Ma'am, this doesn't seem right." He began, as he started pacing back and forth slowly.

"This place is too massive for just one person to benefit from. The First, second, and third floors are completely unused and vacant, yet you use the fourth and fifth floors, despite the fact that all your elevators are out of order. That looks like it's a lot more trouble to deal with then it's worth. Also, there's no indication to what this place is from the outside. An apartment? Office? A combination of both, storage, a run down abandoned building, the list goes on. It's almost like this place was meant to be hidden."

Jason inhaled a puff from his cigarette and blew out a small cloud of smoke before continuing.

"Not to mention the fact that you haven't told us your involvement with this place, or what you're even doing here to begin with."

He stopped his pacing and walked over to the woman, standing about a foot from her, looking down at her with a small smirk.

"We know we saw the suspect enter this building mere moments before we came knocking, and since you are the only one here, that means you let them in. Your case isn't looking to good yourself."

He took a few steps back and breathed out some more calming smoke. He was getting too worked up, and it was hard not showing it.

"This place is too suspicious, and your involvement with the suspect only warrants a search. Don't worry, if this place is vacant like you say it is, and we don't find anything, we'll apologize and leave. You're not in trouble yet, so please cooperate with us."

He walked over and pat Allan on the back. "Officer Allan, can you cuff this woman and keep an eye on her? This place needs to be searched."

He looked over to the woman as he finished his cigarette and placed it inside of a small holder in his jacket. "Now ma'am, please let Officer Allan here cuff you for a bit. The innocent have no reason to resist."

The trail was running cold. Something was up with this place, like a secret hiding spot or something.

He was going to get to the bottom of this.

"No matter how hard they search, this place will never open itself up to these two. All they'll see is what I want them to see. Nothing more, nothing less."
Risaya faced the two and took a deep breath before continuing.
"I don't mind. Though, I'm not sure why I have to be cuffed."
Risaya knows full well that no eyes will be able to see past the Bounded Field she's set up all over the place. It's a powerful perception spell that tricks all senses and all instincts around the target area.
"Before you go back inside, let me tell you a brief history of this place. The Fujyuo highlights were originally built during the boom of economic commerce of the early 20th century. They were to serve as luxury homes and institutes for those who can afford them. Naturally, these buildings were immediately phased out once the central sprang up. I was fortunate enough to buy this place before it gets completely run-down. You could say that it is my home. The reason why I use only the top floors is because of the seasonal floods that occur in this region."
Risaya took one good look on her institute before gazing back at the two enforcers of the law.
"You'd be surprised at how many people were let down by the constructors of this place once the typhoons kicked in. As for what I do with the place, is it really your business to find out?"
She was rather annoyed by the fact that they keep pointing out that it is too much space for one person to use.
"Mostly, rich people build large luxurious mansions to live in, even larger than this building. Yet no one points out that they are "wasting too much space for one person" as you have pointed out. Is this the double standards of society at play?"
Risaya agreed to let herself get cuffed. Hands aren't really necessary for her to keep up the illusions on the place. All she needs is her life. Unless she is killed, the fog will never lift.
"Go ahead officers, search inside some more if you want to. I'll wait here."
While waiting, she unleashed the full power of the Bounded Field. It eliminates any feelings that a person has upon the place, making them lose interest and desires to have anything else to do with it. She didn't even need to use any incantations or gestures to enhance it. They were already standing within the area of effect.
"Go on then, head back inside and be done with it."
It is the reason why this place has remained hidden for so long. After eliminating the desire, it plays on the memory next, making the affected individuals lose all memories of the place.
"Sorry, but I don't think you two are ready to see the secrets of this place just yet."

Allan liked the way Jason worked. He was straightforward but not blunt about things, something he could use to learn a thing or two about. He was also glad that he wasn't the only person to find something off with her explanations.

"I don't mind. Though, I'm not sure why I have to be cuffed."

She mildly protested the handcuffing but did not actually resist. He produced a set of handcuffs and proceeded to handcuff her while she continued on about the place.

"Before you go back inside, let me tell you a brief history of this place. Blah blah Fujyuo highlights blah blah the early 20th century. Blah blah blah luxury homes blah blah. Naturally, Blah Blah blah, blah blah. I was blah blah blah completely run-down. Blah blah my home. Blah blah blah top floors blah blah seasonal floods blah blah."

God, her explanations are so long-winded. He wasn't really paying attention to what she was saying as she was mostly just talking about inconsequential stuff. She seemed distracted by the building for a moment before looking back at them.

"You'd be surprised at how many people were let down by the constructors of this place once the typhoons kicked in. As for what I do with the place, is it really your business to find out?"

Her tone suddenly turned a twinge hostile as she continued.

"Mostly, rich people build large luxurious mansions to live in, even larger than this building. Yet no one points out that they are "wasting too much space for one person" as you have pointed out. Is this the double standards of society at play?"

If that wasn't the most needlessly whiny and obtuse statement he's heard tonight he'd be short fifty bucks.
"Alright now that is just nonsense. Of course people point out that mansions are excessive wastes of cash for the wealthy.
Rich people buy them to make themselves feel important and pampered, whats your excuse? I sure as hell would like to hear the reason why you'd buy a place far larger than you need, especially a worn down dump like this."

Yeah, maybe he sounded pretty cross there. With all the irritating runabout he's been given this whole time he's left the mall and still little to show for it his frustration had only been rising. Even with Jason being a pretty cool guy and all the last thing he needed was to listen to her complaining about whatever stupid social construct that had absolutely nothing to do with this.

"Go on then, head back inside and be done with it."

He simply stood by holding the handcuffed woman in the standard security escort position, One hand holding her just above the elbow and the other on the opposite shoulder so she can't pull away or jerk around in any meaningful fashion. He was going to wait with her while Jason investigated further.

Risaya was irked at the guard's rather rude statement. You don't normally "demand", as that is the tone this guard was using, to know about a person's preferences and reasons for their purchases especially if you're just a security guard. No guard ever walks up to someone who bought something at a mall and ask why they bought that item.
"Who knows? Maybe I feel exalted at the thought of living in a large place. Maybe I'm planning to turn this place into an apartment again. Maybe I even plan to build my own mansion here. The point I'm making is why am I being questioned by the choice of abode I chose for myself by someone with no authority to be here."
Since the only one who went inside was the detective, he was sure to receive the full force of the field. This guy on the other hand, was something else. Her blood was screaming at her to get away from this guy. And only two creatures can get her mana circuits react that way.
"Nephilim? Cambion?"
This was turning out more trouble than what its worth. She could always just turn in Shino but, she doesn't want to just turn her down either. The safest bet is to keep relying on her abilities. She amplified the effects of the Bounded Field more and more, to the point that even an archangel would lose the desire to go in and investigate the building any further. She glanced down at her cuffed wrists. She can use her magic to unlock it but, it is best to wait it out for a while. That man won't find anything anyway.
"He may keep looking, he may try listening closely to the walls, he may touch every inch of it, even smell or taste every piece of item but, unless I want you to perceive with your mind and senses whatever is in there, you won't find anything."
She was getting annoyed at this guard. He cuffed her without a proper warrant of arrest and he was holding on to her rather roughly plus, this condescending tone of his was downright rude and out of place. It's one thing if it was coming from a true person of authority like a mayor or general but from a security guard who doesn't even have a firm or business in this area? Downright out of place and abusive. He's just like her uncle whom she loathed a lot.
"By now, all desires and instincts to stay in this area should be drained from these two. Just wait a bit longer."

Jason walked back inside, hearing the woman saying something to Allan, but he tuned it out. His eyes slowly scanned the floor he was on. Empty.

He rubbed his chin in thought. If there was a hiding spot, where would it be? He walked over and started feeling the walls, knocking lightly on certain spots. They all checked out, nothing wrong.

After looking around for another moment, he declared this floor clear as he headed for the stairs. A few feet up however, he noticed something. He wasn't sure what it was at first until he noticed it was getting harder and harder to go up each step, not because something or someone was holding him back. His own body was refusing to go any further. He started feeling lazy and apathetic to not only the search, but this building in general. It was just an old building. Why put all this effort into it?

Jason shook his head. "When did I start thinking like that? I was so ready to start ripping up floorboards if I had to. Now... it's like I can't be bothered."

He'd never felt such an intense wave on apathy before, like a child when told to do chores. He tried to force himself to continue up the stairs, but he just couldn't budge. He felt the last bit of will leave his body, and he let out a defeated sigh. Trying to go any further was just... uncomfortable.

"Forget this. There's a thief/murderer out there and I'm wasting time searching near empty buildings. There's no way the thief is hiding here; there's nowhere to hide."

His body and mind almost voiced relief as he turned and headed back down the stairs and out the front door to the two waiting for him outside.

"The place is clean, I didn't turn up with anything." He lied, not wanting them to know he gave up the search because he didn't feel like it.

"Officer Allan, you can un-cuff her. We have other places we need to go."

He walked over to the woman with his hands in his coat pockets. "Sorry for the trouble ma'am. I hope we didn't take too much of your time. We'll be going to check out some other locations. You stay safe."

Pulling out his hand from a pocket, he presented a small card with his name and number on it.

"If you do see something suspicious, please call me. I'm available almost 24 hours a day."

He started to head over to his car. "Let's go, the trail's getting cold." He said to Allan, turning back his head to him. As he got near his car, he didn't feel too good. Something was wrong. He had already forgotten what 25% of the building even looked like.

"What the hell is going on...? What's wrong with me?" He mentally fumed. "I don't normally give up searches. Maybe... maybe searching somewhere else is just a better idea. Or maybe I just need more sleep; these long hours aren't good for my health."

He ran through several ideas in his head as to why he gave up on this building, anything to convince him that leaving was a good idea. He reached for the car door in heavy thought.

"Who knows? Maybe I feel exalted at the thought of living in a large place. Maybe I'm planning to turn this place into an apartment again. Maybe I even plan to build my own mansion here. The point I'm making is why am I being questioned by the choice of abode I chose for myself by someone with no authority to be here."

Allan just took his hand off her shoulder and lazily put his palm up against the middle of his face. With all these things stressing him he just wanted to pull his own face off like it was melted cheese. After listening to her haughty response he remembered just why he didn't like talking to people. "Ugh... Forget I said anything."

Speaking of melting that train of thought brought the gross heat of someone else's body on his hands. The feeling of a persons body heat on any part of him was just plain uncomfortable. As it was he just wanted to take the one hand he was still holding her arm with and dunk it in a bucket of ice so he can bring that sense of placid numbness back. There was something else to her body now that he was dwelling on the subject. It was an almost alien sensation, one he had never felt before. It wasn't necessarily unpleasant but he was unable to know what it was that he was sensing about her. Nonetheless he was uncomfortable just being around her right now. He didn't really have any business being all the way out there anymore.

"The place is clean, I didn't turn up with anything. Officer Allan, you can un-cuff her. We have other places we need to go."

Without another word he fished out the key to the cuffs and popped them open. Quite frankly he was happy to just let her go, not just because of her body temperature disturbing his status quo but also because of that unfamiliar resonance that could be felt when he was near her. With the cuffs in hand he folded them up and tucked them back in their holster before heading on over to the passengers seat of Jason's car.

"Let's go, the trail's getting cold."

He was well ready to get going. "Well, what now?" He asked as Jason was getting in.

"Well then, I must admit that this won't make it into my list of favorite evenings."
She watched the car retreat out of view. Tired from that dialogue exchange, she headed back inside the building and picked up a stone from the ground. Reaching the second floor landing, she casually tossed it to the side, reactivating everything else. The ghosts, the familiars, the portals and the other traps in the atelier. She headed back inside her office via the passage she taught Shino.
"Well, thanks to those two, I now have an excuse to try out something I wanted to try for a long time now."
She finally threw her body on the covers. It was nice to get a good night's rest after that ordeal. She wondered about that security guard though. He might be a Nephilim since he exhibited the same kind of unease that she had when they were close together.

The next morning...
Shino was kneeling in front of Risaya, who was doing something to one of the walls, with her arms on her lap.
"Ummm...Boss? It's okay if you don't bring in my pay for this month. I'll even reimburse it myself. In installments."
"Next time you have trouble like that, try not to risk the building? What do you think would happen if they found out the armory?"
"I'll assume that they'll think you're some kind of nut. The armory doesn't even have any weapons! It's just the place where you store all your dolls and thingies that we don't know if they will even work. They'll only be suspicious if they find something shaped like a gun or a sword. What is a weapon to you, may not seem like a weapon for everyone."
"Aha! And now I'm getting lectured by the cause of the problem? Want me to dock your pay for another month?"
"Aaahh!!! No, please, I'm sorry!"
Risaya finished drawing up some sort of circle in the wall. Shino looked closer on the engraving. It didn't seem familiar. Chinese calligraphy perhaps? She walked over to Risaya as she was searching the shelves for something.
"Still, to be able to trick them like that, just how strong of a Magus are you Boss?"
"If I were to be ranked by the association, I'll be around rank thirty, or something."
"There are stronger Magus than you? That aside, how did you do that anyway?"
"It's a simple trick of the eye. The Fujyuo highlights were designed with symmetry in mind so, all buildings initially looked the same. By manipulating the mirror world of the Kaleidoscope, what we were looking at was the interiors of the adjacent structure. Of course, it can still be broken if they reached out to touch something, so I have to trick their senses even more with the Bounded field. Even if they grabbed something, they won't truly see it for what it is unless I wanted them to. It's really stressful maintaining it up since I had to completely occupy their hearing with my mindless ramblings. Oh, found it!"
Risaya took out a large bottle of red liquid and set it on the table. She poured some contents into a beaker and examined it.
"Hey Boss? What's that?"
"Dragon's blood. It's for using that new form of going in and out of this building. Basically, ingest a small portion of it to your own blood and you should be able to travel between other circles via the dragon's ley lines. Wait a minute--"
Risaya left to take something from her room. Curious about the effects, she took the beaker and drank it. She keeled over to the floor, holding her mouth as the liquid cascaded down her throat. Risaya immediately helped her up and propped her on the chair.
"Shino...you weren't supposed to drink it all. That's why I took out the syringe. A small amount is fine."
"Aarrgghh!!! It tastes like burned toast! How do I look?"
"See for yourself."
Shino walked over to the mirror. Her eyes turned into a deep, reptilian red, similar to a crocodile. Similar to a dragon.
"Aaahh!!! What am I gonna do?"
"I don't know. You're half-dragon now, figure it out yourself."
Risaya answered in an annoyed kind of way. Dragons are ranked even higher than angels and demons in the other world. Being a Nephilim is one thing. Being a half-dragon gives you much more.
"Hey, what if anyone I know sees this? What will I tell them? How will I face them now?"
"I don't know maybe, try using your brain before jumping to stupid things that are out of your control?"
"Boss, this is serious!"
"So am I."
Shino sulked as she lay face-down on the sofa. Risaya looked through some stuff and took out a pair of glasses.
"Here. This should divert the attention off. Try not to think like a dragon. Think of yourself as still Shino."
Shino did as she was told. Checking up on her a few minutes later, Risaya saw that the reptilian features on her eyes were gone. Her eyes were still red but now, they looked more like her own.
"Well, it worked."
Still worried about her pursuers, Shino inquired about the properties of the bounded field.
"Hey Boss? In the off-chance that they saw my face, will that memory be affected by the field too?"
"Yes, as long as it's anything within this area. They'll probably mistake your features for someone else's or when the time comes, they won't be able to describe what you look like. It's the same thing that's going on with me."
"I guess. Even when people ask me what you look like, I can't describe you at all. I can't remember any features you have, the color of your hair, your eyes, even your height and stature. Isn't it hard socializing because of it?"
"That's why I don't go out often. My Origin is "forgetfulness" and, as someone with an awakened Origin, all people I interact with are bound to forget me anytime. Those two won't even remember what I look like later."
Risaya turned to her assistant and gazed at her eyes.
"I wonder how long it takes until you forget me completely as well..."
"Hey Boss, I mean, Risaya-san, don't say sad things like that. I'm still here. You're not alone just yet."
"Well, you won't be forgetting about me anytime soon. I'll probably stay here for a few more years. That's right. I was just whining with no attention to form..."
"Risaya-san?"
"They should've forgotten all about your physical appearance by this time. Go now and find that Mackenzie and bring him under police custody."
"All right, I'm off!"
Shino took a good look at the dragon circle and absorbed every detail of it. She took a deep breath and walked inside, emerging somewhere behind the building.

How do you find someone who doesn't want to be found? Well, you start out with the points he leaves behind. Then you work your way up, connecting the dots until they all make sense and point to that one direction on the map.

It's the same thing this young girl did as she stepped foot into the North Boulevard a good distance away from the city central. She started asking at the places he frequented. Then she moved on to those who turned him down. A bit more, and she asked the people whom he constantly interacted with. Slowly, she connected the dots until it all made sense that there is only one possible exit...

Shino stopped the car at a rather secluded apartment a good mile away from all the sights and sounds of the North Boulevard. The quiet residential area contrasted with the popular and dynamic mood of the main area. She paid the driver and walked over to the unit Ayers was staying at--or, at least hiding at.
"Good morning! Is this the residence of Ayers Mackenzie-san?"
A weary pair of eyes peeked out from a gap created by the partly opened door.
"Yes? Who is this?"
"I'm just your friendly neighborhood police contact who was sent to find you."
The man known as Ayers panicked, screaming at Shino.
"No! Don't tell! Please! I was just a witness!"
"Exactly the point sir. You need to be brought into police protection as you are very valuable right now..."
"It wasn't me! It wasn't me! I was just passing by when it happened. It was fast. It's like he was sniped from far away! What if he comes after me next?! What shall I do?! Where should I hide?!!"
The guy leaped forward and started shaking Shino violently while grabbing her shoulders. Annoyed, Shino slapped him on the cheek to calm him down.
"What do you think I'm here for?! They need you so they will be able to get leads while at the same time, offer you protection in the event that this Big Sniper comes after you! I just need some personal information and your address and you just need to stay put and wait for the cops! Don't believe me? Here!"
Shino presented a small ID card of some sorts. It somehow acted as a badge showing her as part of the police contacts. Of course, even if she is a contact, the badge was just a illusion by Risaya.
"Oh... I'm sorry. Here, I'll list everything down."
Ayers gave all the necessary information. As Shino turned to leave, he called out to her.
"If it helps more...the Three probably knows more about the Big Sniper. Just ask around, they are well known around the hospitals..."
Shino didn't quite get it yet. She stopped by a coffee shop and informed their police clients about the information she got. They acknowledged it and said that they'll be sending some guys over to pick him up so, she is okay to go by then. She bade goodbye and called her employer instead, to narrate everything.

"And that's how it practically went. The cops said they'll be coming over so... I already left the residential area."
"I'm a bit intrigued by this "Three" he spoke off."
"I want to find out more about that so, I think I'll stay around here for a while longer. Mind sending in some cash so I can rent a room for a couple of nights?"
"All right."
"By the way, Risaya-san? How long til the dragon blood wears off?"
"Around three days, give or take."
Shino sighed. She had a sudden craving for meat and seafood for some reason. She bet that it was the dragon blood acting up within her so, she wanted it to wear off.
"As I said, try not to think about being a dragon too much. It won't manifest if you're not thinking about it."
"Okay, bye."
Putting down the phone, she looked at herself in her pocket mirror as she walked down the small alley. Her eyes were still red but, it seemed to be a bit more human-like at least. It resembled her employer's--wait, did Risaya had red eyes or blue? She can't seem to remember.
"Forgetfulness huh? I can't seem to draw you in my mind Risaya-san. Is this what you were talking about?"
Shino felt some air rise up her throat. She thought it would be a burp but was alarmed when a small blast of flame went out.
"Oh man, this is so troublesome..."

Risaya was currently in touch with her client, who apparently had some connections with the cops. They were discussing the new revelations that was revealed to them by Shino.
"And I take it that you already sent in your own people to deal with Mackenzie?"
"Yes. There is no need to trouble yourself with him any further. Though, I am also intrigued by this "Three" that your assistant spoke of. What are they, some kind of witness?"
Risaya moved away from the window and sat in her chair, facing the laptop. She took out a small bottle of juice and poured its contents in a glass. She explained her findings as she took occasional sips from the glass.
"The "Three" were three siblings that were also trying to find out about the existence of the beings you know as "Level-5 Hybrids". They can either be Nephilims, humans who have angelic blood mixed in with them, or Cambions which is the reverse and has more affinity with infernal powers. Supposedly, these siblings once tried to initiate a high-end evocation spell to summon one but failed horribly. They lost control of whatever it was they summoned."
"You mean they were all killed?"
"No. Only one was killed in that accident. The other brother went missing and hasn't been found ever since. The other went mad, after the encounter. He's the one that Shino is planning to interrogate later."
"Weird. So what were they trying to summon, exactly?"
"Some sort of dead spirit maybe. According to the lore they discovered, there was an old necromancer who has succeeded in summoning a full-fledged demon in this world. He also lost control of this one and it took his life in return. Those three may be attempting to summon him to get instructions. My guess is that, they want to succeed at where he failed at. According to some really shady documents, they supposedly made a cultured body, a doll, to serve as a catalyst. However, nothing of any sort was found at the scene."
"Troubling. So how do they connect to the Big Sniper?"
"Who knows? Maybe the Big Sniper was the one they summoned?"
"Makes sense, I suppose. How do you know all of this?"
"I remembered reading it on the school's archives. They had records of old experiments by Magus all over the world. This was just one of them."
"Sounds sketchy and dangerous. Will that girl be alright?"
"I guess so. Shino was always the resourceful one. Besides, she'll remain stronger than me for three days."
"Huh? How did that happen?"
"Let's just say that she met with a rather, fortunate accident."

"I don't think we should immediately assume just yet. Along with the probability that Big Sniper committed the crime also lies the probability he didn't. Who knows? He may just be another piece in this puzzle."
Shino answered in response to Jace's short musings about making the wanted Sniper pay for his crimes. She walked in as the boy held the door open for her.
"Well, Mr. Barath, I guess this is where we part ways. It was nice meeting with you. Thanks for everything!"
Shino gave an enthusiastic wave as the boy retreated from view. Heading into the front desk, she asked for the whereabouts of the patient she is looking for. Fortunately, she was just in time for visiting hours and so, it didn't take her long to get an appointment. It will be held on the twenty-fourth floor. As she rode the elevator, some sort of anxiety descended to her body.
"Out of all notorious witnesses, the "Three" or the "Three Wright Brothers" are the most versed in matters of the unknown. Unfortunately, luck didn't seem to smile upon them. One was dead. The other one was missing and the last one went mad."
Shino stared at the numbers slowly climbing up that huge building. She was about to dig deeper into this mystery in which there might be no escape.
"And in an attempt to bring this case to a closure, I had no choice but to see for myself. I have to ask the only possible connection to this whole mess. The crazy one."
Stepping out into the floor, the guards escorted her to a dark padded cell. From the small slits in the door, she could make out some tattered pieces of padding, scattered on the floor. Some parts of the wall that was exposed had some crazy writing on them. Shino took a deep gulp as she headed into the dark confines of the room.
