Harkot shrugged and turned to car off, he then climbed out of the open window, onto the roof of the car, and just layed there in the sun.
He smiled as a slight breeze kicked up his long red hair but didn't bother trying to tame it.
The weather was beautiful! The sun was out, there was not a cloud in the sky, and that slight breeze blew the sweet smell of flowers from a nearby garden through the air. Birds sang, kids laughed, dogs barked, everything was right with the world. Well, that was the case until a loud voice called Harkot back to reality. He sat up slowly, a big crooked goofy grin spreading across his face as he looked down at Kyle who waved up at him.
"Where ya been man?" Harkot ask as he hopped off of the roof of the Van. "I been waitin here for hours!" He joked, it had really only been five minutes at the most.
She reached into her tie dyed purse, and pulled out an antique cigarette case. The metal was cool beneath her fingers, as she flicked it open. Several hand rolled joints sat amongst her cigarettes. Carefully selecting one, she placed it between her crimson lips. Hopefully, they don't think I'm a creep for asking them to spend the summer... they're just some of my best friends. With that thought her palms started sweating and she felt like she was crawling out of her skin. She lit the joint, inhaling deeply. The smoke was sweet on her tongue as she exhaled a cloud to the heavens above.
"This summer is going to be great," she reassured herself, barely louder than a whisper, glancing around. The sun was shining and the air was warm. Tilting her head to the sky, she allowed herself to drink in the warm sensation. Her long hair fell down her back in almost white cascades. She pulled off her sunglasses for a moment, allowing all of her face to be exposed to the warm rays.
"Well can we at least call a vehicle to take you? So you don't have to ride to this house in some cheap van?"
Kyle smiled and shook his head in disbelief at his mother's words. He loved her, but he couldn't help but feel as if both his parents were settling for material possessions and false appearances that didn't mean a damn thing in the bigger picture, and for that he pitied them.
"But what if I love that cheap ol' bus?" he inquired, as he buttoned his tightly fitted jeans and slipped into the brown long sleeved jacket with white fringes that his parents loathed, for it's design as much as the fact that Kyle almost always wore it wide open - today being no different.
"Don't be so foolish, let me call a car."
"A car's not needed, I'm walking to that bus I can tell you approve of so much. Catch ya later."
Kyle grabbed an old leather bag full of his things from off the floor, along with his acoustic guitar, and slung bother over his left shoulder. He then walked over towards his mother and kissed her on the cheek before heading down the stairs.
He could hear more needless worrying from his mother and a-typical disapproval from his father as he hit the front door, but purposely chose to respond with nothing more than a wave before heading out.
Like always he had told Harkot to meet him a few blocks away by a popular convenience store, and as he approached the small market he'd spot a group of young women smoking cigarettes up against a wall and flash his big bright smile towards them. "Mind if I get one of your smokes?" he'd ask the blonde of the group, who looked at him with a suspicious smirk on her face for a few seconds before nodding her head and handing him a cig. "One of you happen to see a big red vw around here?"
One of the brunettes with an exaggerated beehive pointed directly across the street. "I do believe that's one"
Grabbing his forehead in feign shock Kyle turned around to see Harkot's van - which he already had spotted before he even approached the girls. "I believe that's it, you had my mind too preoccupied sister. Could I have a light for this smoken before i go, perhaps as a way to say sorry for distracting me so much?"
The blonde's suspicious glance melted as she laughed under her breath and the brunette smiled and jested back with him. "Well I suppose so then"
Kyle let the woman light his cigarette before excusing himself to walk across the street.
As he approached the vehicle he'd throw his arms up in the air and call out to Harkot. "What's happening man, been here long?"
"Where ya been man? I've been waiting here for hours!" his buddy joked as he hopped off the roof of his van.
"I don't know, you look a little pale to have been sitting under that sun for hours"
Kyle wrapped his free arm around his friends neck and gave him a one-armed hug of sorts before opening up the back of the bus and throwing his stuff inside.
"I call shotgun, driving with a smoke just isn't safe man...that's going to be my excuse."
After climbing into the passenger seat and shutting the door Kyle would ignore his seatbelt, turn up the music even more, lean back, and throw his feet - clad in buffalo sandals the same color as his jacket - up on the dashboard, waiting for his friend to climb in and take off.

"Come on kids! Leave the poor lady alone!"
Harkot shouted out the rolled down window. He sat back in his seat chuckling to himself.
"Do you think anything interesting is gonna happen this summer?"
He asked Kyle as he looked through his ruck sack for his pack of smokes.
He found it and took out a cigarette and lit it just as he saw Bella coming out of the shop.
"What took ya so long?!"
He joked as he revved the engine. She threw her stuff in the back and then hopped into the back seat.
"You guys wanna stop down at Harry's Shop and get anything before we head on out'a here?"
He asked flipping through his wallet to see how much cash he could spend. Luckily his boss had paied him earlier that day so asside from what Harkot had been saving up for this trip he had extra money as well.
Kyle and Harkot joshed with one another as they drove to pick up their friend Isabella. When the van pulled up beside where she was waiting the two noticed some kids giving her a hard time, and Harkot was the first to speak up in Isabella's defense.
"Come on Kids! Leave the poor lady alone!" Harkot shouted out the window, before leaning back and having a chuckle. Kyle on the other hand leaned partially out the window and threw an empty bottle of Coke at one of the kids head - causing them to turn around. "Don't be little pricks man, now book it before I throw another one of these bottles at ya"
All the kids took off in a hurry, but one managed to mutter "jerk" before booking it, something Kyle couldn't help but smirk at.
As the duo waited for Isabella to throw her stuff in the back and join them inside Harkot again spoke up.
"Do you think anything interesting is gonna happen this summer?"
"Well," Kyle began, as he shuffled his feet around on the dashboard. "Depends on how blitzed we get, how many chicks we meet, and if we can avoid the fuzz or not!"
The curly haired blonde would laugh at his own comment as he heard the back door open and assumed Isabella was climbing in.
"What took ya so long?" Harkot asked, before revving the engine some. "You guys wanna stop down at Harry's Shop and get anything before we head outta here?"
Kyle shrugged at the idea. "I wouldn't mid stoppin, could get some cokes and tid bits! Sound good Isabella?"

She slid her sunglasses back onto her eyes, and glanced around the neighborhood. A couple of small children had decided to come out and play in the warm weather. Her palms had begun to sweat as she waited for her friends. She couldn't help but worry.
Take it easy, Charlotte. You'll worry yourself to death if you don't. No use getting worked up over something you can't control. Her mother's words rang in her ears and she sighed. Her mother always told her she worried more than anyone her age ever should. School was over. Harkot and Kyle were just running late. It happened to everyone. What if they aren't going to show? This thought was complete anxiety. Kyle, Harkot, and Isabella came every summer, since the four of them started college. Since she couldn't talk herself out of this anxiety attack, she decided to light a cigarette. Smoking made her not fidget to say the least.
As she inhaled the first drag, nicotine flooded her system and she felt a bit calmer. Her left thumbnail was almost picked raw, from her inability to quit fidgeting. You're going to send yourself to the cuckoo's nest.

"Hey girly! Ya comin?!"
Harkot shouted as he bobbed his head to the Beatles.
Harkot couldn't wait to get up to the house they were staying in, he was so excited to kick his shoes off and just like barefoot for the rest of the summer.
As Charlie climbed into the van Harkot pulled his hair back into a poney tail and then looked at the others with a devilish grin and he turned up the volume for Lucy in the sky with diamonds.
"You freaks ready?!"
He asked as her revved the engine.

"Hey girly, ya coming?!" Harkot called and she nodded. She threw her purse over her shoulder, and loaded her suitcase into the back, before climbing in the back.
You freaks ready?! Harkot asked as the engine revved.
"I'm ready for three months with no studying and no school," she grinned, her palms sweating as she spoke. As the van started moving, she dug around for her cigarette case.
"D'you guys wanna smoke?" She asked, grinning at the trio. She hadn't told them, but she'd paid a high school student, her younger brother to be exact, to tend to a large crop of plants in the shed.
"D'you guys wanna smoke?" Charlie asked as she settled into the van. "Why that's music to my ears Sister, pass me one to share with Harkot here."
Kyle would wait for Charlie to pass him a joint before throwing his lit cig out the window and taking a hit.
"How long of a drive is it to this house? I've got all kinds of plans man."
After a few puffs Kyle would pass the joint to Harkot and begin singing with the song playing over the airways - even air-strumming along with the guitar solos.
The ideas running through his head as he listened to the music were liable to get them in trouble - with the neighbors at best, and the police at worst, but that was a distant concern for Kyle.
"There's a pool right?" he inquired about the summer home as the song switched on the radio. "Imagine the people who would kill for a pool? Should invite them over, start up a few bonfires, and play some music, yeah?"
He'd wait for a minute or two after speaking before nudging Harkot on the shoulder jokingly. "Hey don't bogart that joint man!"
