Working hard, Nicole learnt under her father's guiding hand and soon proved to be a natural in the field. Pleased with his daughter's work, Harrington decided to send her to his dearest friend Christopher in order for her to properly educated as a doctor.
However, within the year she was supposed to leave, her father fell ill and soon passed away. Distraught, Nicole stayed with her family and supported her mother and sisters through the trying times. They were not without funds for Nicole's wealthy grandfather took them in and cared for them. Two years, later, Nicole decided it was time to move on and she contacted Christopher. He was more than happy to carry out her father's wishes of ensuring she got the proper education to become a doctor. Despite her grandfather's protests, Nicole made plans together with the help of her mother and bid her family goodbye. Boarding the Northern Pacific, Nicole looked forward to her new life.
