A world without oxygen

A world without oxygen

0 INK

Worldwide industrialisation had polluted the planet, plant life and gone nearly extinct and oxygen pumps are all that's left to keep everyone alive. The time of revolution is coming. What will you do?

3,261 readers have visited A world without oxygen since Weilacca created it.

Introduction

The world had been completely industrialised, factories dotted around everywhere to produce synthetic foods, products, and the most important thing; Oxygen.
Atmospheric oxygen had been nearly completely depleted with the lack of plant life and the over population of the world, only a few bio domes are left dotted around the world, owned and funded by the government to produce oxygen. This oxygen is then pumped into the atmosphere on a weekly basis, but this doesn't come for free. There is a massive oxygen tax, made to fund both the bio domes and the government's greedy pockets with the people left to poverty, to squalor in filth with little money to even buy a loaf of bread. Crime rates had increased, along with military crackdowns, the death sentence had been brought back with executions taking place for simple crimes.

Of course, there are hope for the poor. A small handful of people have access to their own plants, using them to fill up oxygen tanks to be sold at a very cheap price on the black market. But these people must beware, the government knows of these black market dealings and have enforced laws of regular home checks to arrest any illegal farmers, and kill them. Just so they can continue robbing the poor.
It is not only starvation or the lack of oxygen that will kill you, acid rain, muggers, murderers, infected water, disease. These factors will surely come around at least once in your life to attempt to wipe you out of this living existence, you must fight to survive in this dead world.

We all know that plants can spread quickly, even the government does, that's why they lock the plants up in domes. Words of revolution had been spread throughout the world, all stating that the world and billions of lives could be saved if we simply crack open these bio domes and overthrow the corrupt government. The time of anarchy and revolution had begun...

We start our story in the year 4014, we all have our own homes (and) families, we have our own jobs, and we all wish for a revolution. It is up to you whether you hold the courage to stand up, or the fear to simply sit back and suffer. The fate of the whole world rests in our hands.

Toggle Rules

1. No God Modding or Mary Sues!

2. PLEASE STATE THE TIME AND LOCATION OF YOUR POST! FOR EXAMPLE:
2:35PM
London

3. Only a few black market oxygen farmers are allowed. Remember that the government is aware and there is a risk of your home being raided, and yourself being killed.

4. No one is immune to everything, the world is a shit-hole, so remember that the weather is mostly acid rain, disease is everywhere and whatever. If someone is healthy for too long then I will introduce an illness. (Not a major one, just something that would cost a lot to treat, like the cold or an infection).

5. There will be a few events to keep you all occupied, revolution takes time. I don't want to see solder v character fights occurring in the first posts, you would normally be killed instant if that were to happen anyway.

6. This RP is going to be as realistic as possible, so no crazy stuffs.

7. Keep the posting limit to about 2 posts per day. I don't want to see people being left behind because they were busy helping their mummy out in the house or out of the house to tend to their lives.

8. HAVE FUN!

Henry worked away in the explosive factory, doing as he usually did, fitted the explosives and set the fuses. Except this time, these explosives seemed to be more larger and dangerous than usual, but why? Was war about to come around? Or was it another ore vein found somewhere in the country which requires explosives? Nah, must be war, there's hardly anything left to mine...
Henry sighed, looking around at his peers as he did so, they were all quiet. Focused on their work as if they were zombies, most were all skin and bones with no signs of muscle or fat, only a select few were seen to be of 'normal' size, this included Henry himself. His work table was filled with important equipment used to fine tune any timers or fuses, along with fitting the explosives into the shell. Every now and then, a small amount of the explosive materials like gunpowder and other chemicals would simply 'fall' into Henry's conveniently open work bag, followed by a shell and fuse every now and then. This was Henry's usual actions, and it's something nearly all of the workers do. These explosives could be sold at a high price at certain places, but Henry keeps a hold of them, just in case...

The hours passed slowly and painfully until finally the deafening siren called with the deactivation of the conveyor belts. Allowing all workers to stop everything they were doing, close up their bags and leave. As everyone was slowly leaving the factory, a guard would push a small envelope into their chest, their daily pay. About 10 euros, enough for the workers to afford bread... maybe... probably not.

As soon as Henry left his factory, he pulled a gas mask from his work bag and applied it to his face, supplying his body with oxygen. The government always uses labelled oxygen which can be picked up in scans in order to tax the people. With this oxygen tank of unlabelled oxygen, Henry wouldn't show up in any scans and the helicopter would simply label his house as unoccupied (it's usually night time that weekly scans are made). But later on, the government would realise that Henry lives in his house, meaning there could be a small malfunction in the helicopter with no taxation of Henry.
Taking a little glance into the small green lights inside his bad, Henry mentally noted the amount of oxygen in his tank, "Three out of Ten lights... I should pay the black market a visit." He thought as he continued on, heading the long way home so he can visit the markets for food and water.

Akron Bio-Dome, OH, USA

The door to the General's Room in the Akron Bio-Dome slid open, followed by a helmet smashing into the right wall with enough speed to put a dent in it. With a couple of loud steps, Tony walked into his office, two of his TALOS soldiers in toe. All three wore the same armor, excepting the fact that Tony's looked like a model newer.

With a wave of his hand, Tony commanded his two guardians to take up positions by the door. As the door now closed, Tony moved to his desk. The subtle clanking could be heard as his armored boots hit the ground again and again. Not like anyone cared. Every soldier assigned to the Akron Bio-Dome was equipped with the newest, and often times experimental, armor and weapon systems that the government could afford. After the merger with Canada, the political capital was moved to Akron due to how well centered it was.

After spending a few seconds pacing around the room, Tony looked at his chair. It was time to forget what he did this morning, and get back to handling the bio-dome's personnel.

Sitting down in the chair that he always sat in, Tony set his hand on the inter-comm unit and turned on his computer. "Joe, how are things down in the maintenance department?" Tony spoke through the small unit on his desk. After a moment, and a little bit of static, a masculine voice came over the unit. "We got a couple of repairs to do, but it doesn't look like we will be needing any new parts."

Tony then swapped the channel on the inter-comm. "Rayyic, give me a report on all sectors." Tony sat back after speaking, letting his Major sort through the paperwork that came in from the different sectors.

"Sector A is all clean. Those rich boys don't really make a mess. Sector B has some reports of material thefts near the bio-dome. Sector C has had three raids today, each leading to the discovery of illegal oxygen dealers. Sector D is still in chaos after the riot yesterday, but is mostly contained." Rayyic spoke, much quicker through the first two sectors than the last two.

Satisfied with the work so far, Tony turned to his computer. With a quick couple of key strokes, the main screen opened. After a moment, the satellite connected, and all the in-depth reports came filing in. After a few moments, they had finished. Tony pulled up the inventory logs for the bio-dome. They looked fine, but the report of several new plants coming in caused him to look out his window. They were building a new add-on, likely by one of the govie's requests.

It was one of those days when Brianna wondered and had a taste for something sweet, like revenge, she had killed her father long ago but still had hate in her soul not wanting to let it go but start it, her English great Dane walked up to her as Brianna gently stroked behind the dogs ear, "I know bud its gonna be okay..." she said, the dog rested its head on Briannas lap as his wet nose sniffed it, she pushed him away and chuckled, the young girl stood up and went to see her brother Jack, she noticed he was fast asleep and smiled at the site. "Jack take care of Jason, Okay" She said to the dog grabbing her keys and work clothes leaving a note for Jason.

Brianna headed for her Job, she worked at a factory so she could buy oxygen for her and her brothers survival, and also so she could save her mother from slavery. Brianna was also somewhat frightened going to her job, she was working with power plants or at least helping with them, she was scared of rain, she was scared of the government but also want to crush their skulls, she just wanted to die sometimes wondering what she did to get this cursed life, to her it was a bunch of bs that was untold, She got to her job and began to work watching other people who did the same as she did it was like they were becoming robots or something, being drained back to learn from something so simple that its stupid, she had forgotten when she had read a good book, or pick up a piece of paper and pen and write poetry, she loved those days but only would dream about it, she shook her head and just focused on her work sighing sadly.

Once she was done she cleaned off her hands and looked at everyone who was in a hurry to leave, so was she, Brianna raced down the narrow path going back to hers mall little cottage, she looked up at the sky and feared for rain, she ran into her house shutting the door and catching her breath and running her sweaty palms through her hair, her brother rushed out of his room getting a smile and hug from his sister, she stroked his hair as he was worried. "Its okay" she cooed to Jason laying her back against the door.

Nina lazily opened an eye and looked at her clock radio. "12:40." She thought to herself. "How am I ever going to be able to get up on time when I go to college in September. Nina was bad at getting up early, but recently she'd been staying in bed even later than usual. Deciding it was probably unhealthy to spend any more time sleeping, even though it felt great, she heaved herself out of bed and went into her ensuite bathroom. She brushed her teeth before slipping out of the black underwear she'd fallen asleep in and hopping into the shower. She felt invigorated as the warm water flowed over her skin. She stood around aimlessly in the shower for about 20 minutes before deciding she'd wasted enough water and was perfectly clean by now. Nina dried herself off with a towel and went to put some fresh clothes on. Looking in the tall mirror as she did so, it was clear to see that Nina was a pretty girl. She had deep brown eyes and dark brown hair. Her facial features were sharp and defined and her neck slender and elegant. She had a nice hourglass figure with broad, full hips. If a little light in the chest they still had a certain perky quality even if they were only B cups. Her body was decoarted in many places with colourful tattoos. They all had their own stories, or at least some sort of a meaning to her. After putting on some fresh underwear she squeezed herself into a pair of very tight black jeans and threw on a white vest top. She didn't dry her hair but instead tied it up in a ponytail. Nina was a bit lazy when it came to her appearance. The only exception was her makeup. Without fail she was maticulous when it came to applying foundation to even the skin tone of her face and the various eye makeups she used to give them dark frames. With her heavy leather boots on as well she looked quite gothy, though she didn't buy into trends or labels like being a 'goth'.

Image

Nina reheated some pizza from the day before for breakfast in the microwave. She had a pretty easy life when she thought about it. She worked for a couple of hours on Thursdays and Fridays in a coffee shop, but that was the only responsibility she really had at the moment. Allbeit she was going to be starting a two year course in English Literature in September, but for the remainder of the summer she hardly had a care in the world. Nina had a comfortable, middle-class background. Her father was a retired police officer who had been paid well after taking a bullet, and her stepmother was a successful investor. Their house was spacious and well equipped and in a nice area. Nina suddenly felt a buzzing sensation in her pocket. It was her phone. She answered it.
"Hello?" She said.
"Hi Nina, it's Sara." came a voice on the other end of the phone. Sara was one of Nina's oldest friends. They'd met in Middle School and had been close ever since. They shared the same alternative vibes and fondness for drink, drugs and partying.
"Oh hi. How's it going?" Nina asked.
"It's going just fine. I'm just calling to give you some very exciting news."
"What?"
"Madison's parents are going to be away until Sunday, so her house is free. She's throwing a party tonight."
"Seriously?" Nina asked. It was good being an adult. Gone were the days of having to get alcohol in crafty ways and drink it in secret places. "Awesome. I'll definitely be there." She said.

Walking into a small corner shop, Henry was greeted openly by the slightly older man behind the till, "Ah! Henry! Y'here to 'browse'? Or did ya need some food?" He spoke to him, hinting a lot at the word 'browse'.
"Yeah, I wanna browse and pick up my coat which I left here for you to repair." Henry replied through his gas mask, walking behind the till to follow the man into a different room. The two opened a hatch on the floor to lead to a basement, obviously designed to be hidden from anyone else. Here, there stood a variety of illegal items to sell. From weapons to stolen exotic food.
"I'll have that." Henry spoke as he pointed at the bomb proof torso which was laid on the table,
"You think you can afford that? It was a lot of effort to gain and I can't afford to barter smaller prices with you... I even said to others that it's already been purchased so I can save it for you."
"You're a kind man." Henry replied as he placed his work bag on the table with a loud thud, "Here," He pulled out a smaller bag of gunpowder from the work bag, "I went through a lot of effort to get this. I'm sure it's more than enough."
The man simply stood and stared at the gunpowder as if it was the last bits left on earth, "Gunpowder?! This stuff is worth tons?!"
"And I want the bomb proof torso, oh and some more oxygen."
"Deal." It was an instant deal as the smell of gunpowder gave the man a feeling of security. The substance is worth a large sum per gram, and a small bag of this stuff will surely keep a family living as a middle class member for a while...

Knock knock. The sounds of knocking appeared at the Explosives factory doors, allowing the middle aged owner to answer, coughing in the polluted air as he did so. At the door stood a Henry, with his gas mask and bomb proof torso worn, he was completely unrecognisable. "What?" The owner hissed,
"I'm here on a routine check for illegal explosives." Henry replied, holding up a fake ID for a bomb removal member,
"This is an explosive factory..."
"Yes, and there have been reports in other sectors of attempted sabotage in explosive factories. I'm just checking out the machines."
"Right..." The man paused a moment as he stared at Henry, "Go ahead."

With that, Henry walked around the factory, pretending to check out the machines as he did so, humming with approval to make it a bit more believable. Once he had reached the centre machine, Henry placed his bag down and dug through it, pulling out a flash light and a couple tools to open the machine up. It was there where he placed his home made explosive, set to explode in the early hours of the day. Being in an explosive factory, it would definitely destroy the whole building and maybe some more.
Once done, he closed the maintenance hatch and packed everything back in his bag. The sounds of rattling on the roofing proved that it was beginning to rain.
"All's good, Congratulations." Henry spoke out to the yawning man who was obviously annoyed at the early hours of waking up, "It's raining and I forgot to bring an acid proof coat. You got one?"
"Ah yeah whatever," the man replied as he gave Henry a coat, "Thanks."

A couple hours have passed. Henry had packed all of his important belongings and had reached the ports to see a large cargo ship docked, ready to leave within a small time. "Ah, Henry!" A group of people called out, "You're on time! Did you set the bombs?"
"Yeah, all done. You got the fake money?" Henry replied as he followed the small group into a large metal cargo box, squeezing through the boxes and random goods to fit into the corner, away from all eyes.
"Yep!" A briefcase was given to Henry who opened it up to see the large amount of fake US Dollars inside, "A fair amount of US Dollars for you to start a new life in America. You're lucky we were gonna sneak into this cargo ship at the right time."
"Yeah you're right."

Anthony stood over the weeping man, both elevated on a stage he had personally commissioned. Anthony had wanted a place where he could be certain that he had everyone's attention, and a stage was the best place that he could think of. The man before Anthony was an illegal who, after managing to land a job at the bio-dome, had smuggled more oxygen then he was regulated to receive. Behind the two of them were Anthony's personal guards, in their full TALOS suits.

Anthony stepped back, his right hand out behind him with an open hand. The bodyguard to his right walked two steps forward, drawing his pistol before handing it to his general. Anthony then checked the pistol, carefully ensuring the safety was off and that a round was in the chamber. Pulling the slide back, ensuring that it gave a loud click, Anthony walked forward.

"Jose Hernandez, you have stolen from the bio-dome as well as having come to this country illegally. Your crimes are inexcusable and vile, punishable only by death." Shouted Anthony, his voice loud enough for the crowd of all the workers and soldiers at the bio-dome to hear him, as well as Jose's whimpering. With a heartless gaze, Anthony picked up Jose by the neck with his left hand, staring into Jose's face, saying only "Burn in hell."

BANG! Jose fell lifelessly to the ground. Anthony looked down only long enough for his guard to retrieve his pistol from Anthony's hand. The guards and their general walked off the stage, heading back to Anthony's office.

Nina went out for a walk. She was finding herself getting bored very easily just sitting in the house so much. She went to the vintage clothing shop a few streets over. Nina liked browsing here. It gave her something to do and she found interesting clothes which you wouldn't get in your normal clothes shops. She pawed through a couple of racks before coming across something that caught her eye. It was a sapphire coloured jersey with a large number '6' on the back. Nina brought it up to the counter.
"How much for this?" Nina asked.
The man behind the counter was fat and losing his hair. He had a beard and thick glasses. "Do you even know what you are holding?" The cashier asked patronizingly.
"A shirt?" Nina answered.
"That is a replica of a Yugoslavia National Soccer Team jersey from the 1958 World Cup, modelled on the one worn by Branko Zebec."
"Neat. How much for it?"
"The current asking price is $50." The man sighed. "Though I am reluctant to sell it to someone so oblivious to the history of the design."
Nina looked around. The shop was quite run down looking. She was the only customer there at the moment. Business clearly wasn't great. "Maybe if you were a little nicer to customers you might get more business."
"Is it a crime to expect a high standard of shopper when I sell rare and interesting items?"
"Well... no, but you don't have to be an ass to everyone who isn't an expert on what they're buying. You said $50 right?"

With her new shirt purchased, Nina went to get herself some provisions for the party. She went into the off-license and went up to the counter.
"A litre of vodka, please."
"Any particular kind?" The clerk asked.
"Whatever's cheapest. It all tastes pretty much the same when I mix it with Pepsi anyhow."
The clerk laughed and reached down a large bottle. "You aren't gonna drink this all on your own, are you?"
"Not all in one night." Nina said. "This should get me through a few evenings. That reminds me, can I buy some green." She added lowering her voice to a whisper.
The clerk nodded in the direction of a door and they went through to a smaller room.
"Just the usual." Nina said.
"You got money?" The clerk asked.
"Yup."
"Damn. I always hope you won't." He said putting his arms around her.
"Get used to it. I don't plan on paying in other ways."
"Can't blame a man for trying." The clerk said. "Anyway, enjoy your evening." He said sending her back out the door with a playful slap on the behind.
Nina tried to scowl but she smiled a little because she found it funny.

Brianna woke up in the normal routine like any other day, she would wake up, get her work clothes on, go to the factory, run home, and check on her brother, Brianna stared at the ceiling she wanted more in her life then just feeling like a slave, she needed to have another rush, the rush that makes the blood flow through your arms and legs as you do the most out of the ordinary, she snapped back to reality after Jack began to lick her face, she smiled and didn't move she decided not to go to work that day and just think to herself.

Hours flew by and Brianna had been sleeping while her brother was just playing with Jack, she woke up with a yawn and got out of bed falling to the ground she groaned and looked under her bed on a accident she saw a journal and tilted her head she reached for it and pulled it from under, she looked at the cover stroking her hand along it, it was like a adventurers diary. She opened it as she looked all the pages were filled with knowledge on how to make a oxygen farm is it had Warning Illegal on it she closed her door and blinds and sat on her bed and read through it learning much from the book she smiled.

Re: A world without oxygen

Well, only a couple more characters and we can start! I'm now coming up with an entrance post to be made once we gain the people.

I would like to make a shout out for new characters to be Black market oxygen farmers, it's nice to have some illegality in here, and it would do great for some content.
