History

Masi's family were farmers, trying to work their way and toil in an small area in which crops could actually grow. They were a small family, a classic story of a man meeting a woman, both alone and had no one to go to. They banded together, moving and exploring the land. Finding a hidden trail in a swampy forest, they found an abandoned hut, in which they took to make their own. Time passed and they adjusted to their lifestyle and had their only son, in which they only named Masi.

Masi grew up, and learned the ways of his parents. His father would shove a bow to his hands, and they both will explore the lands, killing what animals they could find. He would watch as the animal's were skinned, and watched as leather were made. His mother would then take him, bringing the leather to a market place to be sold. Due to constantly walking thru the swamp forest, his body has adapted itself, forming muscles on his legs to take the lad thru and fro from the forest.

One sad day however, a bear appeared, killing his father while they hunted in a tragic accident. Masi ran, the only one surviving and went to his mother. He was only 15 at that time. His mother cried, but they both eventually accepted the fact. However, memories of her loved one in the house grew to much for her, and she moved out, heading to town to become a tailorsmith and leaving her son alone.

Living alone for 4 years, he continued the work of his father, and then heard the ringing of the bell. Seeking to make things right for his family, he went off on his journey, bringing along his only weapon, his bow and his arrows.

So begins...

It was quite a curious sound, Masi thought to himself as he heard someone cry out in the forest. There was a bunch of thick vegetation, far in front of him, which proceeded to thin out, forming a kind of a sign, that further highlighted the oddity of the symbol on the floor.

"A sword, a butcher knife?" he chuckled to himself as he stood. A sword will work, but a butcher knife would be almost completely ineffective against the enemy that they call, high bush.

Stopping his work of making a clearing next to the clearing, he kept his skinning knife back, and he walked towards the source of the cry. The sun was hot, and he now fully realized how much he had sweated, even though he wore a fisherman's cap.

"Head this way! There's a clearing over here!" he called out to the unknown female in the high bush. Unnoticed, the number 312 on his left arm began to glow as well.

Masi nodded, smiling softly as he saw the figure, a girl, probably no older then he was. She was a little shorter then himself, and her freckled expression reminded him of the old American books he used to read.
"Greetings, my name is Masi. And welcome to the promised land.... or so i thought. It isn't very promising since I've been here." He nodded, walking back to the freshly cut plants.
"I am afraid... that sadly, i do not know, nor have the materials to make a fire. Nevertheless.... i do have some tinder, and i'm going to work to make myself more tinder. The bananas near that symbol is safe to eat, though they wouldn't be very appetizing."

He smiled, kneeling and going back to his work. He had managed to clear up quite a nice patch of land, before the event.

The plant's shadows begin to grow, and stretch, and a bewildered Masi looked up as he saw the sky turn from a sky blue, to a shade of red. He watched the sky and the sun for a few moments, before a cold wind blew thru his hair. It was cold, and the suns ray no longer provide heat.

Masi knew that they had an unknown amount of time left, before sunlight left them altogether. He had long grown accustomed to the darkness, living his life in a swamp.

"The ways of the promised land is odd indeed.... But i'll be damned... We need shelter and soon. Banana plant leaves would make great blankets for the night ahead."

Masi sighed softly as he listened to the girl. "Tell me, what do you see?" he said, holding up his skinning knife. "If i had an axe, indeed, i can probably cut some sticks. No, i'm afraid that with the light remaining, we do not have time to build shelter. The banana plants are in that direction, and i've seen some brown giant leaves on the floor. Those are what we shall use as covers. The night is cold. There is no need for tinder for today. Eat a banana, and then follow me. We shall forage for giant leaves."

His left hand was raised, and it was only then did he noticed the tattoo glowing on his left arm. He stared at it a moment, before shuddering slightly as he looked at the symbol of a triangle in a square on the ground.
"I swear, this place is freaking me out." he muttered as he walked hurriedly towards the banana plants.

He had turned back to look curiously at the girl after that comment. "Yes, indeed, i do have a number tattooed on my arm. Three hundred and twelve. It seems to be the price we have to pay to enter this land. I will need to find of a way to hide it for this night."

The vegetation crunched and bended under his steps, and Masi smiled to himself as he spotted the older banana leaves. They were brown, but most importantly to him, they were big, and their branches are easily snapped or sawed off. He got to work, climbing on top of one and using his body weight to snap it free. Letting it fall to the floor, he did the same to drop 8 different leaves from the nearby trees.

"I'm sure by now, that you noticed the damn rotten fruits on the floor of the trees." he spoke up as he dragged the leaves back to the clearing. "If you ask me, that is worrisome. Not a single monkey or creature in sight. Not even skeletons. It uneases me."

Masi sighed softly as he looked at her and shook his head. "Did you not seek out the promised land? If you are to travel, you must come prepared. I am afraid that i will be of little help in starting a fire, not that i even want to start a fire. Darkness is perfectly fine with me for tonight. Fire is both a blessing and a curse." Placing the banana leaves back into the clearing, he quickly arranged them in such a way that they made a very uncomfortable bed. 4 leaves for each person.

"If you can get a fire started, go right ahead and use what i've chopped for fuel. If you wish to waste your energy cutting grass in this light, then who am i to judge?" He sighed, placing the last leave to cover what he had chopped, and then taking nearby rocks to press the leaf down so that they will not be blown away by the wind.

Masi would then walk to the girl and taking the stone bow from his back, he offered it to her. "If you are going to start the fire using the old string method, then you can lend my bow." he stared at her harshly for the next sentence. "You will not, and absolutely not smash my bow against other rocks to create sparks."

Waiting for a moment to see if she would take it or not, Masi would then sit on the banana leaves, dusting off the banana stalk that he had dropped earlier and feasting upon one. "Damn it, sour as hell." he said softly to himself as his cheeks scrunched up.

Watching the girl was not entertaining in the slightest, Masi thought to himself as he closed his eyes to rest. Sure she was shapely, but she had no assets, and her mostly futile efforts to start a fire did little to impress him. Not only that, it was starting to get dark and he did not want to watch the sunset. His parents used to say that watching the sunset would ruin his eyes and while he doubted it, he did not want to test out that particular information. Therefore, he was astounded as he heard her shout in triumph. He quickly opened his eyes to look at the direction of the girl's voice and sure enough, a small glow of a fire was held in her cupped hands. Only then did he noticed her tattoo glow, or more particularly, how strong the glow was. It was the second brightest light next to the flame and as they were in a clearing, it stood out here more then a white flower in a wasteland. His curious thoughts quickly went to his own tattoo and while they glowed, it was a faint blue that only served to illuminate the number on his arm. It would be easy to hide, Masi thought to himself with a relieved smile and turned back to the girl. Although he spotted no wildlife, he was sure that at least some existed, and the dim glow would make his presence to them less obvious, resulting in an easier hunt.

"I'm impressed, but more importantly, I'm confounded on how you just started that fire. Perhaps.... plants burn more easily here." he laid, laying down on the piles of leaves while his mental voice screeched at him.
How was she able to create a fire? Where did she get that stick? How did she force the stick into the grass pile without something to push the stick from the top? Why would she need to place a fruit over a fire to eat it? Silly questions and theories appeared in his head, and he laughed loudly at the mental image of the girl taking out a wand and pointing it to the grass to make it burn.

"Glowing tattoos, night sky, And here I'm still thinking that normal logic works! I wouldn't be surprised if a dragon from the old comes flying above us, with his flame breath creating a sun in the distance." A simple quip, but he carefully observed her reactions. Seeing nothing however, Masi shrugged to himself and decided to trash the theory. No point in being silly. Certainly there are rules, just not in the most logical sense.
Turning one of the banana leaves into a make shift blanket, he propped his head on his arms and laid on more leaves to get some sleep. He had ate before this entire journey, but three hours of walking around would tire someone out and he needed his rest more then food right now. He was calm about his tattoo, knowing that the banana leaf over him would hide it from any observers, but did that matter when they both were illuminated by her impromptu campfire?

"Be careful that you do not start a bush fire." he spoke after a moment's rest. "I'm going back to sleep. Wake me up when you are about to sleep. Basic survival technique. Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but i can't help but feel that this land is not looking for our best interest."
