Chapter 1
Between Life and Death
"The world is lost, but there is hope. Leave behind the memories you held dear. Rise to see the world for what it could have been, should have been. For the dreams that carry you to this place cry a melancholy tune and you stand here alone with your heart your only friend. Through blind eyes you see, but do not understand. And when everything comes crashing down and despair is all that remains. You will devour the light that sought to save you. But even in your darkest hour, I will believe in you. For you are me and I am you."
The Reflection of Desire
The Reflection of Desire consists of two islands in the middle of the ocean. Everyone starts somewhere on the first island, after waking up from a strange dream. Characters won't remember exactly what they were doing before they went to sleep, but they'll remember bits and pieces. Resources on the island are scarce. There is only one source of freshwater, an algae infested pond, in the middle of the island. Fish and other wildlife are nonexistent.
The second island is farther off, about ten kilometers from the first island, and is surrounded by jagged rocks and fast currents which make it impossible reach to by boat or by swimming. Characters can make out the outline of some sort of vegetation in the distance, but unless they are able to make it to the shore they won't be able to distinguish anything else about it.
There are three sanctuaries on the first island whose description is up to the first person who describes them. The only noticeable thing about sanctuaries is that they are unusual when compared their surroundings and they are spaced far from one another. This may be a formation of rock or a circle of trees.
Each character has to choose a number between one hundred and one thousand for the number that will be shown on their tattoo. Remember, everything you see or do and the people you meet will be incorporated into the main plot. So take into consideration what you describe. You'll never know how important the smallest details will be. And without further adieu, your story begins.
Objectives
Survival: Avoid permanent death.
Things that will cause permanent death
- Lack of food or water
- Your character drowns
- Disease
- Hypothermia
- A Random Encounter
(Note: Rebirths do not negate the need for food, water, warmth, or the effects of getting sick. You are reborn as cold, hungry, thirsty, or as sick as you were before you died.)
Special Rules
If a player kills another player they can choose to absorb a portion of the dead player’s soul. Eventually, the portion of the dead player’s soul will return back to them, but it will give the victor a short term benefits. These benefits are:
Food: Absorb whatever the loser had eaten, replenishing one’s need for food. This results in the deceased player being reborn in a “hungry” state. This has no effect if the deceased player hasn’t eaten anything.
Water: Absorbs whatever the loser had drank, replenishing one’s need for water. This results in the deceased player being reborn in a “thirsty” state. This has no effect if the deceased player didn’t drink anything.
Warmth: Absorbs the body warmth of the loser, replenishing one’s need for warmth. This results in the deceased player being reborn in a “cold” state. This has no effect if the deceased player is already cold.
Ability: Allows the victor to use one of the loser’s abilities. This results with the deceased player missing their ability when they are reborn. This lasts until the victor dies or until the he or she comes within close proximity of the newly reborn loser. This has no effect if the deceased player’s ability has already been taken by another player.
(Note: This applies only to players. None of these benefits apply when a person kills an NPC.)

Realising that the sea water was undrinkable he looked at the vegitation. He could see some coconuts on the trees, but from experience he knew that climbing a coconut palm wasn't a good idea without something to protect the crown jewels and the legs from the rough skin of the tree. Suddenly he felt a weight move on the left side of his robe. As he looked he noticed that there was a grappeling hook where he normally would have a large water bottle. When he grabbed the hook he cut his robe on the sharp edges of the thing. "Strange...well the entire situation is strange. I don't remember that being there, heck I don't even remember falling asleep on an island."
Warren sat down and looked around, with this grappeling hook he could get those coconuts down, but if he did that he would lose the resource that he wanted to gain from them, fluids. Then saw a ripe coconut on the ground, these held nearly no fluids, but he could use it to knock the others out of the tree and the sand below would cushion their fall. Warren stood up, grabbed the ripe coconut and flung it at the ones in the tree. After a few tries he succeeded in knocking one out. The coconut fell, punching a small crater in the sand where it landed. Warren ran towards the fallen nut, picked it up and walked away from the tree, so he wouldn't be hit by one of those nuts. He sat down on the sandy beach and with his grappeling hook he made a rouch hole. As Warren had expected the coconut was filled with fluids, though they would give you diarea if you'd drank them for weeks, it made sense to him why some called that tree the tree of life. He drank the entire coconut empty in one go.

Darkness, all around him was darkness. A darkness bleak and endless.
"Am I dead?" Ariel said as he floated motionless the void; his body numb and weak.
"Maybe." Angel said.
"What do you mean maybe." Ariel said, "One moment we were walking toward the bell, then next we were floating toward a rift in the sky while we see our body dropped lifeless on the ground."
"If we are dead do you think we would be here together and talking?" Angel said.
"Maybe?" Ariel said, "I don't know, but I know for sure that we are no longer in the world we came from."
"How long do you think we are going to float here for." Angel said.
"Eternity?" Ariel said but than considered his surrounding and what little he can feel through his numb body, "Not too long, it feels like we are getting pulled somewhere.”
“How much further do you think.” Angel said.
“Not too far,” Ariel said, “Oh I think I see a light.”
“What light?” Angel said as she observed the dark surroundings through Ariel.
“The light over there.” Ariel said as he pointed at a random spot in the dark. Nothing was there yet but the moment he pointed at that point a small orb of light began to appear in the distance.
“You didn't just create that did you?” Angel said.
“Maybe.” Ariel responded.
Their shared body began hovering toward the light; slower at first than faster as they floated closer. In moment, the light was upon them, large and brilliant as the Sun. Or was it Sun? The fringes of the orb flickered like fire, burning and eating away at the darkness around it.
“So we're going to be incinerated ” Angel said in a matter of fact way.
“Better than being stuck with you in this place.” Ariel said.
“How could you be so lighthearted in this.” Angel said, “This could be the last moment of out existence.”
“Do you think I don't know that?” Ariel said with a bit of anger, “The moment we listened and followed the bell. The moment I knew we were heading toward something ominous. But yet you insisted that there will be great adventures if we followed the sound. Look where we ended up? In the boundary between life and death.”
“Don't blame everything on me.” Angel said, “You wholeheartedly agreed to do so.”
After a short pause Ariel said, “True, but either way we can't do anything about the situation right now.”
“Wait since you imagined there to be a light, then we could imagine that going through the light would lead us to some sanctuary.” Angel said.
“Right good luck with that,” Ariel said and promptly switched places with Angel. His pupil turned light blue, the only other visible colour between blind white and deep black.
“You can't just runaway like that,” Angel said, “We need to do this together.”
“ What do you want me to do?” Ariel said, “ Believe that we're going to remain existent after this?”
“Yeah,” Angel said, “Do that. Might do something.”
It sounded nonsensical then but at desperate times one could almost do anything just to extend his life even by a few seconds. They both tried to believe that they're are going through a portal into another place. They never defined it as better or worse, just that it is a place that they can still exist in. The light then engulfed them like a tidal wave.
A chilling cold slivered through her spine shocking her awake from a shallow sleep. Wave crashed in the background and the chill of cold water receded and struck until Angel was forced awake and crawl deep into the sandy beach and settled beside the cliff wall. Both the cliff rock and the sand was warm and comforting. Brushing away some of the sea water from her face, she glanced all around her. Palm trees dotted the beach in the pattern of a crescent moon. Beyond those trees was a sea that stretched beyond the horizon. A shiver rushed through her body, but she was hesitant to take it off. “Take it off already,” Ariel said, “Or do you want to die of hypothermia?”
“Fine,” Angel said unwilling and started to take off her wet cloths. The body was still a male one but with her light blue hair hanging loosely just above her shoulder and blue eyes made her look like a developing female. She instinctively covered up her chest as if someone was looking at her. “There isn't anyone here what are you so uptight about?” Ariel said.
“Once you are in a female body you'll know.” Angel said. She proceeded to place her wet clothing against the heated walls of the cliff while glancing every once in a while at her surroundings for any signs of life. In her observation, she found a way up the cliff and some coconuts hanging on the trees. The seemed to have secured some source of food.
“What now” Angel thought and what responded with “Wait till our cloth dry, gather our belongings and head out of the beach.”
“I know, and I wasn't asking you,” Angel said as she continue to stare at the sea, “It makes me wonder if we're going to be stuck here forever.”
“If so what would you do?” Ariel said.
“Survive of course,” Angel said, “What is the point of throwing away our second chance at life?”
Angel nodded in agreement and continued to stare out at beautiful sea with her back against the warm cliff and mused herself with the chance that there might be other people or things on this island that she hasn't seen before.

It took her about twenty or so tries and a lot of foraging for rocks she could throw, but she finally got one down in the end. "Yes!" Retrieving the coconut, she felt around in her pockets for her Swiss Army knife. "Hair tie? No. Candies? Yay, but no. Where is... oh, right." She reached into a pocket inside her vest. Pulling the knife out, she carved a messy hole and started drinking. "Bleh, this doesn't taste very good." Making a face, she quickly downed the rest of the liquid and ate as much of the meat as she could stand. Getting up again, she took off her hooded vest. 'I cant be the only one in this place right? If I walk inland, I'll probably find better water and right? Even if that weren't true, I should get out of the sun or I'll look like a burnt marshmallow soon.' With that decided, she headed through the grasses and inland.

He was on...what was the word? He knew he had heard someone say it once...When sand meets water....Beach!! That was it. He was on a beach...but how? He groaned as he pulled his knees to his head and ruffled his snowy hair. He stayed in that position for a minute or two before looking up, his Ruby eyes staring out to sea. Another green island visible on the horizon. First things first, he needed to figure out some kind of game plan....Ok circumstances? well he was confused to no end....solution? It was best just not to ask why anymore. He had already done the necessary tests to see if he was dreaming and he wasn't so he was just going to have to deal with the situation.
Ok so second on the list....He was thirsty, He stood up and brushed his jeans off. He removed his moccassins and walked to the waters edge and crouched down. It was so clear...he couldn't help himself he just watched the waves come in. He had never seen so much water in his entire life. He put his shoes down and cupped his hands together in the cool, clear water. Brought it up to his mouth and gulped down.....BLECH! The hell was this? He spit it all out and was wiping his mouth as he looked out to the water in disgust. Why was the water so salty?...wait wasnt first order of business not to ask questions? He grunted as he stood up. Well this was going to be harder than it looked. He turned to the interior of the island(he assumed it was an island) He knew he could survive longer without food than without water. SO second order of business was still active. Find some water.
He took put his shoes on and took off. He couldn't help but admire all the strange vegetation. SO Much GREEN! Was any of this edible? He looked to the skinny trees with gigantic nut looking growths and leaves way above him and just shook his head. "So strange," he said to himself as he shook his head and continued walking.
He had been walking for a good ten minutes when he hit a sort of clearing, his tank drenched in sweat, his pants rolled up to his knees, the scars on his shins pink against his pale skin He had also stopped when he noticed the number 400 on the back oof he left calf, but as he said, no questions. He stood at the edge of the clearing and looked around. The strange skinny trees were all bending away from the center in a circle that looked to be about 200 ft across. and in the middle was a small pond! More water!! He whooped and hollered as he ran to the pond and fell to his knees...the water green and thick, but that just looked like simple algea he had seen this before....but now he didnt have any metal supplies he could boil water in....fucking thieves. He was going to have to be smart about this. ugh it hurt to think so much just to get a fucking drink.
He could make a filter out of sand...but he would need some type of cylinder to make it work.

"Indecent?!" Ariel said, " we'll see who is indecent when I go up there and toss you over the cliff."
"Calm down," Angel whispered, "I don't think he meant it that way. Either way now we know that there is someone else on this island."
"Friend or foe?" Ariel said.
"We'll find out then we'll need to secure the things needed to survive here." Angel said as he looked at the large coconut tree around them. They seem to provide enough water and food for one week or so. But getting one of those coconuts from such height will be difficult. Still she was certain to come up with an idea.
"I ll be coming up there soon," Angel shouted back, "But what do you see behind you?"
Angel then proceeded to gather the rest of her belongings walked toward a slope leading to the clifftop.

With a startled cry and a gasp, Masi woke up. He felt cold, the rushing fresh wind from the ocean blowing into his face. Hold on Masi, hold on. He told himself as the sight of the sea stretched out beyond him.
Water! And as much water as the eye can see! He has never seen anything like this! With a cry of joy, he quickly took out the clothes that he wore, throwing them in the shade and rushed off, naked as the day he was born to dive into the water, laughing as he splashed about and enjoying the feel of the sand on his feet.
"Water! Water!" he shouted gleefully and proceeded to drink a mouthful, unable to stop himself. "Bleh! It's polluted."
He sighed, and quickly went back to the shade. His moment of joy, though costly as he now felt incredibly cold, served wonders to awaken him from his dream like state. How did he get here? Where is he?
He quickly got dressed, and his eyes widened as he saw his bow. "What the hell is this." His bow, once made of wood, is now made out of solid rock. It's size seemed to grow slightly, and the bowstring was fine, yet without a doubt, he could tell that it was strong. He picked it up, pulling the bowstring back with an arrow and found it surprisingly stretchable.
"This defies logic." Masi said, speaking to himself. It was then, that he saw a number tattooed on his left arm. "Number 312?" he said, frowning as he tried to scrub it off, to no success. He backed up to lean against the tree that he sat under, checking his inventory. 20 arrows, his clothes, his skinning knife, and a rock bow from nowhere. Odd tattoo, a huge pool of undrinkable water in front of him.
He looked behind himself, and saw to his amazement, trees, living green trees. He saw no such thing in his youth, though his parents, when they were alive told him what he needed to know. His eyes hardened, resolute as he turned around, tracking into the trees. The promised land, it exists. He can scarcely believe it. He found a huge gap in his memory, from the time he left his hut till how he got here, but he regarded it a small sacrifice for the magic that brought him to this place.
Now if he could only remember the dream he had. He recall seeing a square, and a triangle inside of the square, and then a fist appearing in the middle of the triangle and punching him to awareness. He rubbed his nose to confirm that it was not broken.

As he walked past some plants he saw the person who had most likely caused the sound, at least he presumed that because the man was holding a crossbow. Warren looked at his grappeling hook, if that man were to turn voilent he needed to close a few more meters, otherwise the hook wouldn't reach. He slowly walked closer to the man. When he had the man within range of the hook he called out for him: "Hello there, would you mind some company?"
"I'd rather be alone, but when your in the middle of nowhere and theres someone else stuck on the same place, its not wise to not make friends...or at least try to."

Continuing on for an hour or so, she began to feel a gnawing hunger in her stomach. She tried to ignore it. 'I'll get to that rock first, then I'll start looking for food when it's cooler and maybe build a shelter or something so I don't die in the cold. And water too.' The feeling wouldn't go away though, and intensified the more she walked. Brushing away the grass as she walked, she couldn't help but look for anything edible. Occasionally, she'd see fruits or nuts, but wasn't sure if she should collect then. As a child, she had been taught not to eat anything unless it had been approved by an adult since a lot of edible things had some poison or something of the sort due the effects of war. Eventually, she got too hungry. Seeing some plants with green fruit shaped like a crescent and huge leaves, she took some time to gather some in her vest. A leaf was also cut down to serve a a sort of umbrella. 'I could probably use this later to build a shelter too.' After peeling the fruit, she took a bite out of it. "Bleh! It's like a raw potato." She thought for a bit. "Maybe it'll taste better cooked." She set about looking for firewood and some flint rocks to hopefully start a fire.

"I'd more than appreciate some company, but I think we have a more pressing matter on our hands..." Felix blurted out with the utmost courage not to pass out. "I'd appreciate it a lot if you could pop these coconuts open, couldja?"
Falling backwards from famine, he tossed the coconuts over in the stranger's direction, making them land somewhere in front of him. It was purely a terrible mistake to not have eaten anything prior to this, even though Felix had no knowing as to whether or not something... strange like this would have happened. Half-way between contemplating drinking his ink-like tar and chewing on his pens, he was rather sure if someone just passed by, he could have been mistaken as a dead person. His stomach began to revolt, as pain struck Felix's abdomen. Crouching in pain, he could have sworn his stomach was gnawing on his lung.

Then he walked back to the other 2 coconuts, they looked riper than the other one as they weren't as green anymore. Good for food, but much less fluids. Warren swung the hook again cleaving the coconut straight in half, wasting much of the fluids inside, but that wasn't what he was after with that coconut. He did the same with the other coconut, then picked the halfs up and layed them down near the man. Warren sat down near the man, when he suddenly realised that it might be usefull to know each others name. "It seems that were stuck here and from what I've heard were not alone. By the way, my name is Warren Grant." As he stuck out his hand to shake hands with the man he noticed through the tear in the robe, that was made earlier by the grappeling hook, a flame tatoo of the number 144. "Yet again, strange."

It sounded awkward to Angel, half of the cliff would be at least 3 meters high, a tide that high is more than enough to crush her against the jagged cliff walls. Angel looked toward the beach, there were at least 50 meters before the beach ended. There seem to be no way that a tide could reach that high. Off in the distance, Angel saw a small wave it looked minuscule not enough to be half the cliff, but a nagging feeling told her to hurry up the steep slope on the left side of the cliff. She proceeded with haste up the slope looking back once in a while to check on the coming tide. It seemed to rise higher as it approached. Angel looked back again but it was already towering over the large coconut trees near the beach. She hastened yet again, it didn't really help much since the slope was at an almost 90 degrees angle forcing her to climb.
Some help would be welcome, but even without it she was determined to reach the top of the cliff before the unnatural tide hit her.

Angel saw the person above held out a long stick like thing. The surface of the thing seemed too smooth to grab, but she reached for it anyways using it primarily for leverage. She grabbed the bulky end of the bat with her left hand testing the smooth surface. Because of her moist hands she managed to get a good grip on it. She pulled herself up with the right hand; upon closer inspection the long stick like thing was a bat made out of a hollow metal. She tried to minimize the amount of weight she would place on the bad in case that for some humorous reason the person holding the bat would let go. In a few minutes, with the help of the bat she barely managed to climb over onto the cliff. The tide erupted higher than one would expect going a bit over top of the cliff, tossing up the back of her jacket and drenching her head. If one could see the moment before the waves went over her back, the number 737 can be seen at the lower part of her back.
Angel look around her and saw a male with short brown hair and blue leaning over the edge of the cliff with his feet braced over a solid tannish brown rock. It looked as if he was slightly soaked as well. "Thank you so much for helping me," Angel said and gave him, her best smile, "My name is Angel who are you?"
"Do you think he is safe to approach?" Ariel said.
"I don't know, but he did help up get up the cliff." Angel replied, "We'll see, if something doesn't work out well, you can always toss him over the cliff like you wanted to do before."
"Gladly." Ariel said with anticipation as Angel waited for the person's response.

"Where the heck am I?" She bluntly asked herself, pushing herself up onto her feet and looking around from her current location. "Trees, maybe something kept this island safe from whatever happened?" Then a thought popped into Alexandria's head and she looked around. "I need to stop thinking out loud.... It'll make it harder to hide if I need to do so. Either way, I need to find someone to try and figure out how I got here." As she muttered these last words to herself she heard a rustling to her right, probably just an animal or something so it wasn't a threat.. But if it was an animal she could do with finding something to turn into food so that she could eat while figuring out what to do.
Alexandria sighed a little in annoyance as she turned left and ran, it wasn't worth the wait to see what it could have been, plus she needed as much of a head-start as possible with such a heavy bag still on her back. So she took off as fast as she could with the heavy bag on her back and essentially barrelled through the foliage and other things in the way to get to the other side of this small patch of woodland.
As soon as she was out of there she spotted a familiar shape accompanied by a large sword, she couldn't really place where she had seen this person before though. "Who the..." She mumbled to herself as she cautiously trudged up the hill towards him, the weight of her bag meaning she had to lean forward quite a bit so she didn't fall over. As she made her way up the hill, the person she was looking at dropped his sword for some reason after wiping his cheek.
"Is something wrong with his cheek?" Alexandria asked herself, but she asked herself loudly enough for him to possibly overhear her, despite not having noticed it, she had a similar tattoo of the number 961 just at the very bottom of her neck.

" What is he laughing for" Ariel said, " What amusement was there in seeing us barely escape alive? If I were out there i would slap him silly."
"Well you are not ," Angel said, "Anyways, he did help us get up here safely.."
"It was quite an adventure." Angel said as she laughed a bit.
" That was the worst attempted at a laugh ever." Ariel said.
"Quiet," Angel said, "We have other things to worry about right now."
"Are you hungry? These things seem to be safe to eat" Logan said.
"They certainly are," Angel said, "We should gather as many of them as we can before heading inland."
Angel looked down at the beach where the large tide retreated leaving several coconuts lying near the trees. Angel pointed to the coconut and said, "That should keep our thirst quenched and our hunger bearable for a few days, maybe a week. I'm going to go down there and pick some up. You can stay up here and watch for irregular tides or you can help me gather the fallen coconuts."

"Well, it'd sure help out if we had more people... And my name's Felix Gid." he introduced, showing his clear gratefulness for opening the coconut.
The heat quickly made Felix's notice as he removed his scarf from his neck and tied it around his waist like a belt. Gingerly plucking a dried out pen from his pocket, he raised one of the riper coconuts up and dug into the white flesh inside. What a disgusting object, all hairy and everything on the outside. Unable to ignore that it was this that was feeding him however, Felix pushed his artistic criticism aside for a second.
"So, uh..." Felix said between munching on coconut flesh. "Besides finish off these coconuts, what are we going to do afterward? Surely we should search around before we try to accommodate for shelter." Looking up, it didn't appear to be any farther into the day than noon. They should have plenty of time to search around, as long as they restricted it to an hour or so.

"You're not that subtle you know. You have an extremely bad habit of thinking out loud."
"Why don't you get out here? We're civilized people, there's no reason we cant help each other out here right?"
Alexandria heard him speaking and the first part sounded familiar, the second part, while trying to sound intimidating, failed miserably at doing what it was intended to do. "I could have sworn I've seen you before, and heard you say that I've got a bad habit of thinking out loud." She said as she reached the top of the hill, where he was. She had her hand loosely on the hilt of her sword, getting ready for what might happen like he had.
"Why do you seem so familiar, and what's with the number on your face?" Alexandria sounded rather confused about both points, quite obviously failing to hide this fact.

He lowered his arm and loosened his grip on his weapon with a sigh,"I bear no ill will ma'am." he said calmly. "We are obviously two individuals who are in a very messed up situation." He turned around and regained his sense of direction. "I'm going in this direction, there's a clearing that my either have a steady source of water or at the very least a place where we can set up a camp from which we can look for other survivors. I don't know if you've been listening but there are other people around this island, and they are yelling like crazy."

"Quiet, we have other things to worry about right now."
"Your right. I'm sorry. I can come off as stupid sometimes." He saw the coconuts as they washed up on the beach.
"We should gather as many of them as we can before heading inland."
"You mean you want to head into that jungle? Well, I mean, I guess. It would probably be for the best huh?" He was still facing the ocean. "Isn't it beautiful? Dangerous sure, but it looks amazing from here." He sighed and turned around. "I have an idea. We can take some of the leaves from these trees and make a basket of sorts, with a rope that reaches up to me. That way, you wont have to worry about carrying those things up here, and if need be, I can throw you the rope." He said with a smile, and he began to walk towards the trees. He began to pick up ones that had fallen off during his earlier adventures and attempted to tie them together.
