Lili Dean

a character in “ABNI”, as played by cirrus_sd

Description

To make this simple, try imagining the most beautiful woman in the world. If you are like most people attracted to women, chances are Lili would come pretty close to your mental image. With a slim body and curves in all the right places, Lili is one knockout of a gal. Miss Dean also has a huge mass of long, wavy red hair and pale, almost marble like complexion which, did I mention, is flawless. In fact, the only possible flaw with this girl's body is the fact that she doesn't have feet...rather, she has bird claws in place of them. She can still wear heels, but it's pretty inconvenient, especially on dates. Because of this, she tends to bend her legs a little more than what would be deemed "normal" when she walks.

Despite this, Lili is pretty proud of her body, and dresses to show it off. She'd walk around naked if she could, but unfortunately for her, it isn't exactly legal, even in Vegas. She's a name-brand girl, and turns up her nose at thrift stores, regardless of the fact that it is much cheaper to shop there.

Personality

Lili and her brother aren't exactly the sharpest crayons in the box, but she is definitely the more street savvy of the two, having had to walk many nights alone along the alleys of NYC. She is a little more realistic than her brother in terms of expectations, and is slowly growing disillusioned with the world and her life. Although she enjoys sex and drugs as much as he does, she secretly wants to go to college and get an actual job that doesn't involve stripping or dancing. She doesn't like children or babies at all, and never wants any children of her own. She has a hot temper, but is gullible, something her brother abuses with glee. She enjoys reading tabloids and looking up the lives of Hollywood. She is a reality show fiend, but is annoyed by shows such as America's Next Top Model and the Miss Universe pageants, since she doesn't think any of them are attractive. She is a vain girl who will spend hours perfecting her already perfect face before a night out, and goes in and out of different trends.

Equipment

Lili usually has a mirror with her wherever she goes, and she is never without her enormous purse which is filled with cosmetics and other things. Her favorite pair of shoes to wear are her heels. She can run as fast in her heels as she can without them, and is surprisingly quite agile in them, never falling once in them. Occasionally, she might have a water bottle in her purse, but its contents are usually alcoholic. Lili has good balance and can dance well. She is also a quite accomplished kick-boxer, and can occasionally turn invisible when in the shadows.

History

Lili and her brother are halflings. Their mother was a succubus who grew bored of caring for them and abandoned them when they were two. They grew up together in a children's home before resorting to the streets away from the restrictive life of rules, schools, and punishments. The two are close, despite their fights and quarrels. Around the age of 20, they left the East Coast for the glamour of Hollywood. Las Vegas distracted them, and was closer, so they stayed there. Lili worked as a go-go dancer and occasional stripper to help support them as they lived their life of sex and alcohol. On one drunken night, Lili and her brother accidentally bumped into a rather nasty demon who had just robbed a store. After a trade of insults, the duo made short work of the demon, and the money. The next morning, a short Asian man was at their door, accusing them of stealing his money, but promising to let them off the hook if they joined in a business venture he had been planning to do...

So begins...

Monica

Being dragged downstairs wasn't fun. She stubbed her toe, not that Lili noticed. A day out sounded nice though and Monica pulled her sneakers on and made sure she had her bag of gummy worms handy. She waved up the staircase to Sam goodbye and was sure KJ wouldn't care about the girls leaving.

Monica did wonder about the monster though and as she followed Lili out, asked, "Are we okay with that monster and...the electricity and...should we bring weapons?" It seemed like the intelligent thing to do was all. She wasn't sure how they would fare without them if attacked. Well, she wasn't sure how SHE would fare if attacked. Again. Fingers to her temples, she tried to erase her nightmares away.

Lili

Monica brought up a good point. "Hmm." She stepped back inside and grabbed her purse--eventually she would have remembered it--and went into the kitchen. She stuffed a couple kitchen knives inside it, sleeves over the blades, and added another thing of mace just in case. "There," she said, jiggling the bag, "Should be good. Though I doubt the monster from last night will come out. As I said...though you probably didn't hear, but I said that it seemed like a night-time monster. If you hear any music, just run the other direction." Lili ruffled her hair and went back outside.

"Goodbyeeeee, Saaaam!" she called.

"I'd take one of his guns, but he hates it when I do that," she told Monica when they were outside. The warm sun beat down on them, and Lili smiled. "Today is my kind of day!" she exclaimed, "Let's go shopping!" She took Monica's arm and pranced down the steps to the dusty sidewalk. "What's your favorite store? Do you want to get purses or shoes? What about scarves? Not that you need them here, but they're an essential fashion accessory, ya know?"

Any hostility Lili might have felt towards Monica had pretty much disappeared. The presence of another female was now a welcome one, rather than threatening. Now they could do girl stuff together!

Monica

Awkward couldn't begin to describe how she felt walking down the street with Lili. Though she seemed like a normal girl, looked like one at least, Monica couldn't help remembering, and occasionally glancing, down to her feet. "Uh...no favorite store."

She sighed, squinting a little in the sunlight. Pulling out her glasses case from her pocket, she slipped her black framed glasses onto her face and fidgeted with them a little. Her eye sight wasn't so bad that she needed her glasses 24/7...well, it kinda was, but she hated her glasses. Having experienced demons, electronic monsters and with a new monster probably on the loose, she decided to be as sharp as possible.

They ended up taking a taxi, a service that was rather expensive, but to Lili's taste as she refused the bus. Monica slid in the back seat with her, smelling her perfume and wondering if she should have put some on as well. Being around Lili made her feel less like a girl and more out of place than anything. If she was ever going to be an actress, she needed to look and act a bit more like Lili. She seemed to have it figured out.

So, as reluctant as she was, she said, "Maybe we could go look at...uh...dresses? I don't have much more than this..." Her eyes traveled down to her black shorts and tank top.

KJ

Meditating didn't calm him down, nor did it help him relax and find sleep again. He trudged upstairs, found the kitchen, and started pouring the contents of a box of cereal straight into his mouth. The dry bits crunched under his sharp teeth.

Then he sensed the ghost girl.

Turning his head, a few yellow bits falling to the floor, he squinted. "What?"

She only giggled, leaning against the wall beside the refrigerator, though floating about six inches above the ground.

"You're not funny."

"I'm not trying. You should wait."

"For what?"

"Oh, for what indeed?" She giggled, a bit louder. "I can't tell you. It's a secret after all."

"A secret?"

"Yes."

"Then you're of no use to me, are you?"

"Oh I could be, big boy." She began floating closer to him, eye lids falling a bit.

KJ's eyebrows raised. "Big boy? You've expanded your vocabulary."

"I think about you."

"Sure."

Now she floated right in front of him, making eyes and trying to touch his arm, though she couldn't. He only felt a cold brush his skin. He remained where he was, smirking. "What are you trying to do?"

"Do you think...you're ready?" Her eyes flashed up to his.

"Ready?"

"For what's to come?"

KJ's face slacked. "What do you know, Ghost?"

"Maybe nothing," she giggled, looking up to the ceiling. "Or maybe...everything."

"Tell me!" He swiped at her, but her image had already faded into nothingness. He searched around the kitchen frantically, not liking the tingling in his spine, or his horns. Something told him that she wasn't lying. Remembering that the girls had taken off, he hoped they were safe.

He tossed the cereal box on the counter and started upstairs. "Sam, have you heard from Shen?"

Lili

"Dresses? Sure!" Lili exclaimed, "Yeah, you could really use an uplift. Honestly, no offense, but how can you walk around in just that?" Hadn't she heard of taste?

They got off at the strip, where Lili babbled nonstop about the newest fashion trends, her opinion on the new color swatch of the year, "So much better than that awful tangerine! Plus I have green eyes, so it'll just make my eyes pop! Only thing I'm worried about is that I'll look too Christmasy...oh, wouldn't that be awful?!?", whether she wanted the same sequined dress or a different one, and--after getting her hands on the Hollywood Reporter--tutting about Taylor Swift and her most recent break-up.

She didn't shut up until they passed by a macabre scene surrounded by an ominous perimeter of yellow tape. Police were everywhere, and Lili quickly realized this must have been where Daisy was killed. "I work there," she said quietly, pointing at the nightclub right next to the dark alley. She sniffed and quickened her pace, silent until they entered the nearest clothes store.

Sam

"Shen? The hell, I ain't got no long distance calling card!" Sam said through the bathroom. He was gelling his hair into a faux hawk, paying ridiculous attention to each and every strand. "He left yesterday, so...." he tried to calculate the distance between here and China, which proved more difficult when he had to remember where exactly China was, "I dunno. Maybe he'll be back tonight? How fast does he fly anyways?"

A humorous thought popped into his head, and he leaned out the bathroom, "Hey...hey, wouldn't it be funny if Shen had one of his shellfish episodes while he was flying? Like, what if he randomly became a clam, and he's at the bottom of the ocean somewhere. And some diver comes and tries to open him up to look for a pearl, but Shen ends up eating him because he turns into a dragon. Wouldn't that be crazy?"

"Idiot," the ghost girl's disembodied voice giggled, "You have no clue."

The voice didn't say anything more, and Sam looked at KJ. "What's up with her? Is it just me, or are all the girls especially annoying this morning?"

Shen

The Asian sighed exasperatingly. His suitcase was being checked by the local police due to a suspicious call from the motel owner. Everyone doubted that the magnificent riches he had packed truly belonged to him, and he knew they were waiting to steal it away for themselves. Human pigs!

He crossed his arms, planning an escape route that would mentally scathe the least amount of people, when he heard a rather interesting phone conversation. An official looking man was jabbering away in a not quite Chinese language. Shen recognized it as Japanese, and listened intently. Apparently the other man on the phone was unhappy. Some sort of rich client, judging by all the honorisms this guy kept using. But...strangely...Shen strained to hear more. What he heard next surprised him so much he nearly turned into a clam at that very moment!

Instead he fell out of his chair. The man on the phone looked at him strangely before walking off. The police officers also eyed him oddly, but Shen didn't care. He needed to get to Las Vegas quickly!

Monica

The yellow tape helped Monica reconcentrate on walking. Lili's yammering had become dull noise, as much as she tried to listen. If it wasn't so incoherent, she may have been able to keep up, but the constant switching of topics was growing too tedious to try to work out what was happening.

Glancing over the scene, she saw no body, though she supposed that was the point. A few officers gave her dirty looks, as if her curious eyes disgusted them. She scowled in response and followed Lili down the sidewalk and into a clothing store.

The AC felt nice. Monica glanced around the clothes eagerly, imagining dressing up like an actress. Lili still seemed a little put off by the scene outside, so Monica grabbed a straw hat, plopped it over her hair and walked up to Lili with a broad smile. "My dear, dear Lidia, would you be a DAH-ling and fetch me my coat. We're going on an outing. Isn't it exciting?" In a fit of giggles, she pulled the hat away and felt her cheeks growing red. It was worth it though. She had wanted to showcase that character for awhile, to anyone really.

"Her name's Georgia," Monica explained. "A little character I came up with."

KJ

"Agreed," KJ answered in a low voice. His eyes checked the hall, but the ghost had vanished. "The girls went out. Think they're okay?"

It wasn't in his nature to leave the helpless unprotected. It just wasn't...right. He may come off moody, which he was, but truthfully he cared whether Lili and Monica died or not. And dying wasn't an option he was big on.

Lili

Lili watched "Georgia" speak to her dumbfoundedly, mouth open. When Monica finished, she had to think about whether she liked what had happened or not. Character...Her face brightened and she exclaimed. "Like an actress? Are you trying to be an actress? Like in Hollywood?!?" She nearly shrieked.

"Well fuck, why didn't you tell me? That's so cool! Oh, you could do it, I'm sure,"--Lili had been fairly impressed with Georgia, even if she hadn't been sure what was happening at the time--"You HAVE to take me to Hollywood, though! If you make it big-time! Oh, please oh please oh pleeeeease, will you take me to Hollywood? I could be like your personal dresser. Or bodyguard. Whatever!" Excited beyond belief, Lili thrust out her pinkie, "You have to promise! Promise you'll take me to Hollywood!"

Sam

Sam exited the bathroom, hair done. "Yeah...Yeah they should be okay," Sam said, though he was a tad bit doubtful, even if it was daytime...

He hopped down the stairs and flipped the TV on. More news, and as if by coincidence, they were showing the crime scene of where Daisy had died. Some close-up footage made Sam wince, and he left to the kitchen to get cereal. "Speaking of which, you might want to see this, KJ." he called, pouring milk and watching the screen from a safer distance. The police, predictably, had no clue what had happened, and were suspecting either an incredibly violent killer, or even an animal.

Monica

Laughing so much her abs hurt, Monica stuck out her pinkie as well. "I promise, I promise," she laughed. "Though I doubt it'll happen."

They started looking through the dresses, Monica eyeing a lovely green with brown lace one, while Lili seemed more interested in the more flamboyant designs. Monica didn't have much money, but slipped into the changing room to try it on anyway, just to see. Gingerly, she stepped out of the changing room without her sneakers on and glanced at her reflection. The hair wasn't good, nor the twig-like legs, but the dress...was gorgeous.

"Nice," a male voice commented from behind.

Spinning about, Monica made a weird squeaking noise and found the culprit. He was about a head taller than her, sporting jeans and a plain black t-shirt. His blonde hair sat short and slightly pulled together on top like an attempt a a mohawk without any hair to deal with. It actually looked strange, but Monica wasn't worried about that. Her cheeks pinked.

"Me?"

"Yeah, you."

"I uh...thanks."

He chuckled once. "You're uh...welcome."

Monica adjusted her glasses and them tore them away completely. "I was just...with a friend...I'm...going now." Dashing back into the changing room, she listened for him to walk away, which didn't seem to be happening. Not until the stall beside hers opened and a female voice spoke.

"Ready to go, babe?"

The young man replied, "Yeah, sure."

"Do you like my dress?"

"It's...a dress."

The couple started away, voices fading. Monica carefully opened the door and searched for any trace of the blonde boy. There was none. Glad to be alone then, she slipped her glasses back on and went back to the full-length mirrors. Her smile slowly returned and she swayed back and forth.

KJ

He glanced to the TV set, taking in the gruesome sight of the dead girl's mangled body. "An animal...right. What in Las Vegas could have a jaw like that?"

The segment ended, leaving KJ to head back to the kitchen, pouring more cereal into his mouth from the box. "I've wracked my brain. I don't know what this thing is. I doubt you do. We might need an expert. With books and stuff."

Lili

The red-head stepped out of the dressing room, clad in a bombshell red cocktail dress with a plunging neckline, in time to see the end of the conversation between the blond guy and Monica. She eyed the couple leave, before sneaking up behind Monica, popping behind her and smirking at their reflection. "Who was that?" she asked excitedly, "Oh my god you look great! At least, the dress looks great on you...Hair could use some work...but yeah, you could totally pull off an evening gown."

Done with her compliments, Lili looked at herself in the mirror. She pursed her lips. The dress looked fine, duh, but the style wasn't really hers. She preferred strapless to anything. She stepped off and perused through the dresses. She found a longer, hip-hugging sleeveless that ended in a tasteful mermaid tail flair. She tried it on eagerly before stepping back to the mirrors. "Ah!" she exclaimed approvingly, "Now this is hot! A bit short, but I could wear it and no one would see my feet! Even with heels!" This prospect excited her, and she knew she'd buy it. She tried on a couple more dresses, and ended up adding a sleeveless black short dress with gold trim and sequins to her purchases. As she headed towards the counter, she looked at Monica

"Did you find something you wanted? It's on me," she held up her credit card, winking.

Sam

"An expert? On monsters? Right, let's go look in the telephone book for one!" Sam waved his spoon around as he talked, splattering milk around. "For once I actually kind of wish Shen was here....he could call up one of his voodoo-voodoo Asian friends, or pull up some mystical Chinese book or scroll or magic or some shit like that."

As Sam slurped up the rest of his cereal, he thought about KJ's question more seriously. Someone with books? Well, he remembered that one day when the guy next door had ordered a shit ton of books...the boxes were so numerous that they blocked the path to their own door.

"What about...what's his name...Texas? Tex? What about him? He has a lot of books...maybe he has something on...oh, I don't know, stripper eating monsters? Worth a shot anyways..."

Monica

"Oh...no...I'm okay. Really." Pushing her hands in her pockets, Monica held her fist around her bag of gummy worms, half-wanting to pull them out right about now. But she didn't want to get the sugar on any of the clothes. "Maybe I'm not a dress girl."

Adjusting her glasses, she turned away so Lili couldn't try to convince her, only to come face to face with the blonde guy from earlier. "Hey," he greeted, to which she gave a thorough bout of silence. He laughed, a little. "Are you free tonight? A bunch of us are heading over to Green Spider, new club. You should show."

Monica shook her head. "I shouldn't."

"But you should. We'll drink, dance, party." He gave a wink.

"No, that's okay..."

KJ

Sam's sarcasm wasn't helping his mood. But he did have a point, as annoying as it was. "Fine. We'll be...neighborly. For once."

Already hating the idea, he slipped on some flip flops and gestured for Sam to go first. "Maybe we should start with the none red-faced demon one. First impressions and all."

Lili

A party?? "A party!?" Lili exclaimed from the counter. She had heard about the Green Spider. It was the new rival club to the one she worked at, but she couldn't lie, the place looked hawt. And technically, since she wasn't working tonight (and probably not for the rest of the week due to last night), she could go to any club she wanted.

"Let's go! Monica, let's go! It'll be like a girl's-night-out!" Besides, depending on how it went, she could give some tips to her boss about it. And probably get a bonus! "It's settled, we're going." She waved at the blond guy. "Don't worry, we'll be there! Monica, this means I definitely have to buy you a dress! I'd lend you mine, but, I don't think you'd fit. Quick, pick a dress! Something short so you can move around in it." Lili demonstrated with a booty wiggle.

Sam

"First impressions! I've always been great with those," he said, winking. He knocked on the door and waited. After no immediate response, he knocked again. Still nothing. This time he banged on the door and hollered, "Hey Lumberjack! We want to talk with you, so get your fucking ass out here! Er...Please!"

Shen

In about three minutes, Shen had his things and was flying through the air, back to the west coast. Sure, maybe some of the police officers were taken aback by the sudden appearance of the dragon, but he was in a hurry.

Thoughts hurled through his head as fast as he flew. From what he gathered, someone had purchased a sort of monster. That someone happened to live very close to Las Vegas, and from the sound of it, the monster had gotten out of hand. A name had been tossed around, but Shen didn't pick up on it. But he knew that he had to warn the rest of ABNI, especially Lili and Monica.

Monica

"But...wha...?" Now choosing a dress, she chose a deep blue one without thinking and watched helplessly as Lili paid for it in full. Monica didn't even want to know how much it was.

The blonde guy winked at her. "Nice choice. I'll look out for you. Both of you," he added, eyes wandering to Lili before he turned to leave. Monica stood dumbfounded and frozen. A guy who already had a girlfriend had just asked her out, forced her to make her somewhat friend pay a lot of money on a simple dress and then proceeded to check out that somewhat of a friend.

"He's a douche, I'm not going," she decided, starting out of the store.

KJ

The door opened, a crack. Inside, a man with scraggly hair stared back at them, apparently just waking up.

"Since you punched in my door in so courteously," he said, stepping to the side and letting the door follow him. "Welcome."

KJ followed Sam in and proceeded to stare like a guppy fish. The volumes, stacks and stacks of volumes, that littered the place were old. Not only that, rare. KJ noticed one title, half-rubbed away, encrusted in gold and reading: Demons, Drakes and Devils. It looked like a first edition. Oh if it was a first edition...

"What can I do for you gentlemen?" Tex asked, eyes still half-open.

"We need information."

"On?"

KJ rolled his eyes. This guy was a piece of work all right. Bookworm too. He knew the type. "Female killing monster. Only females can hear it."

"Very specific. Couldn't find it on your own?"

KJ only glared.

"All right. Come back in an hour or two. I'll see what I can find."

"Just an hour?" KJ doubted it would take that short of time.

Tex met his eye, a smirked a little. "Or two," he reminded.

With that, he promptly ushered them out and slammed the door.

Lili

"Don't be ridiculous," Lili said, "Of course you're going. You don't have to go for the guy, but I'm going, so we can just hang together! Won't that be fun? We won't even invite Sam. How does that sound?"

Lili swung her bag happily in the sun. "Where do you want to go next? We could get something to eat. Shop for more clothes. Whatever you want." She hooked her arm in Monica's, happy as of now.

Sam

"Well then! Paranoid bastard, isn't he?" Sam whistled as he walked back into the apartment. "I don't really like him. I don't think Lili does either, but if she does....well, fuck then. He's a creep."

He lounged on the couch, switching the channel to something more upbeat. AKA, Law and Order. "How do they solve these things so fast?" Sam asked, "It's like, one hour, bam! You'd think with this method, no crimes would be unsolved..."

Monica

"Fine," she allowed, for now. She wasn't looking forward to it though. Sweaty bodies rubbing and bumping to repetitive music didn't seem like a productive use of time. But Lili was being nice. She should keep this for a long as she could.

"I'm actually hungry," she admitted. "Where's the best chow?"

KJ

"Agreed," KJ said to Sam's observations. He didn't agree much with watching Law and Order though. Too dry for his liking. So he ignored Sam's comments on the show, vanished downstairs and instead of meditating, lounged on his towels by the washing machine and fell asleep straight away.

--

Tex looked up to see Natasha swirling into existence before him. "Hello lovely," he greeted with a smile. "Terrorizing the children?"

"Aren't I always?" she mused with a giggle.

Shaking his head, Tex returned to his books. "What I don't understand is how unorganized they are. For a team of private detectives, they know very little."

"The Asian one is the smart one."

"And can barely communicate to them through English."

Both ghost and neighbor chuckle.

Lili

"Food? Okay!" Lili dragged Monica to a French restaurant that she particularly liked. It was near the mini Eiffel tower, in the busier section of Las Vegas.

"Mon Ami Gabi!" she proclaimed, dragging Monica to the fancy eatery. "Hey, can you do a French accent? Do you have a French character?" She managed to get them a table, and in no time they were looking through menus.

Sam

The episode of Law and Order finished, and Sam flipped through other channels lazily. As he did, though, he thought about the monster. Was it really something only girls could hear? What kind of sexist bullshit was this? Then again, he wouldn't like to be eaten. But he wondered what it sounded like.

Come to think of it, wasn't there some Greek myth with a monster like that? He couldn't remember it, but he remembered seeing a movie with something that would sing, but it was with guys.

Maybe KJ knows?

Sam hopped off the couch and went downstairs, "Hey, KJ! What's that one monster that also sings to kill people? Do you remember? Are you sleeping?"

KJ

"Yes!" he growled up, then turned over, covering his ears.

A giggle rang through the basement.

"You better have a good reason for waking a demon," KJ told the ghost girl, squeezing his eyes shut tighter.

"So silly," she muses, then the giggles fade away.

Good. At least she had some sort of decency.

Monica

"A French accent? Uh...not really. The best I have is a British one. A kind of Italian one...uh...I'm not good at accents."

She glanced up and down the menu, glad to see English to the side. Nothing really looked appetizing though. "Uh...what's good here? I'll have that." Slapping the menu down, she sighed. "As long as its not frog related."

Lili

Lili ordered for the two of them, and continued chatting away to Monica throughout the entire meal. By the time they left, it was late afternoon and they took the taxi back to the townhouse.

As they got off at the correct street, the sky suddenly thundered and darkened. Lili shrieked a little, not wanting to get wet, and dragged Monica to the house as quickly as possible just as fat raindrops splashed onto the dry ground. As she fumbled for her key, she noticed that their neighbor--what was his name again?--was also waiting outside their door.

"What are you doing here?" she demanded as she unlocked the door. "Sam!" she called, stepping inside, "We're back! Oh, and that creepy lumberjack guy is waiting outside! What's his deal?"

Before she could step further in, a familiar voice started shouting.

"Lili! Sam! KJ! Monica! Bad, bad, bad news!" Shen burst into the apartment, soaking wet and shaking. "Bad bad bad news!"

"What? You didn't get the money?" Sam asked, muting the TV, "Oh, and Tex is here because we asked him for some info. Speaking of, oh my God, Lili, tell Shen about that monster you saw yesterday! The one that ate Daisy."

Shen's small eyes widened. "She saw a what?"

"It was right outside the club," Lili said dismissively, though secretly pleased at all the attention she was receiving because of it. Even though the monster terrified her. "It made this strange music, but Sam and KJ couldn't hear it. Luckily I managed to run away, but oh, what it did to Daisy was awful!"

"It made the news," Sam added. "Hey..Shen, you all right? You look like you're about to faint."

It was true. Shen had gone completely white, and his eyes were as large as they could possibly get. Trembling, he suddenly disappeared in a puff of smoke, replaced by a shaking clam on the floor.

Monica

Returning home was...eventful.

Up to the point when Shen suddenly disappeared and in his place a clam sat, Monica was behind on the processing. After a beat, her eyes lifted to Tex's, standing in the doorway with a raised eyebrow and a smirk. Something about the smile was off though, less amused, more intrigued.

KJ chuckled. "That's perfect. Sam, bring him here."

Whatever they were doing, Monica had no idea. She stood quietly, not giving anything away except her obvious anxiety. The monster returning to a topic of conversation wasn't what she wanted. Nor did she want Tex there.

He stepped inside anyway, closing the door on the fast falling rain. "I may have a name to you monster."

"Really?" Monica asked. Her eyes were glued to the book she suddenly noticed in his hands. It was large, carried in his two large palms as he started forward. They gathered in the kitchen, Sam and KJ still working with Shen, as Monica followed Tex to the table where both sat down.

Flipping open the pages, the same smirk remained on his face. Monica shivered, hair a bit damp. "So...what did...you find?"

"Plenty," he replied, not offering anything more. His long finger continued to flip through pages.

"Did you figure out what the monster was?"

"Yes." Again, nothing more.

Monica tried not to glare. "Are you going to share?"

His strange gaze flicked over, neck twisting slowly as he faced her full on. From the window, odd shadows erupted from the light storm outside, bathing his expression with eerie beauty. Monica was reminded of Dr. Frankenstein briefly, but shooed the thought away.

Tex's smirk lengthened a bit more, before he pulled out a pair of reading glasses, pushed them on and pointed one passage on his selected page. "It's known as Incantator de Feminis, the Female Enchanter. Much like the mythical Sirens, they lure in their victim's with music, promises, desirable images. They are the ultimate illusionists...and they feed on girls."

His eyes were on Monica when she looked up. Gasping, she leaned back, heart racing.

KJ joined them at the table, glancing over the Latin words easily as he scratched at his hair. "How do we kill them?"

Tex briefly eyed him, the smirk vanishing into a brow of annoyance. "Unless you can see them, which you can't, you won't be able to."

"So? We'll have Lili be our eyes."

His brow pulled together more, Tex sighed, but nodded. "If you wish to place her in harm's way, sure."

"Harm's way or not, she's helping. So how do you kill them?"

Tex pointed to the bottom of the passage.

Squinting, KJ leaned down to read closer, touching Tex's shoulder in the process. The man shuddered away, as if the contact disgusted him, which may have been true. Monica noted this and sat quietly, stomach clenched with anticipation. She wished she could read Latin.

"Spina de Rose... Sanguine prædam...That's it? Roses and blood? That's easy."

Tex pointed again. KJ continued reading.

"And it can only be killed...in direct sunlight. That's...wonderful."

"The sun takes down all defenses it has. They are rather mystical creatures, working from the Moon's energies. Which makes sense." Tex looked to Monica.

She automatically answered, "Because females are often connected to the Moon in myths and lore..."

That smirk reappeared, lopsided, suggestive, excitement shining in his wide-eyed stare. "Very good."

(Spina de Rose = thorns of rose
Sanguine prædam = blood of prey)

Sam

Jeez, how did this guy know so much anyways?

"Was this the 'bad bad bad news' you were referring to?" Sam asked Shen, who was still a clam. It seemed to nod, but it might have just been tilting by itself. Clams were so weird...how did they eat? Was there like a foot? Or a giant mouth that was a foot? He had read they had feet...but it was a shell....

He didn't have much time to ponder. Shen changed back finally and nodded his head so vigorously it almost made Sam dizzy. "Yes! Yes, that! I hear in police station. Someone has monster here, near city! The monster is loose and--" Suddenly Shen stopped talking and glared at Tex.

"Wait. How you know about this? You are human, right? How you know about this monster? What is that book anyways? Where you get?"

"Woah, what's with all the questions?" Sam asked, "The guy's just helping us out. Besides, can't a guy look up creepy monsters without facing discrimination?"

Lili stared at him after that sentence, an expression that mixed confusion and 'you're a dumbass' together. Sam shrugged and mouthed "What?" She rolled her eyes.

"So I was right, then," she said instead, "It's a night-time thing. So all we need to do is find where it's hiding, bring some roses and blood, and murder the shit out of it, right? Oh!" Lili clapped excitedly, "Monica and I are going to that new club tonight! Maybe we can find out where it is at the same time? I mean, as long as I get some dancing and drinking done, I'm all set for that! And if you guys around, then I'll feel ultra safe. If it eats girls, it probably doesn't even attack guys, right?"

"Actually, Lili might have point," Shen said, "Typical Siren do not attack women. Generally speaking. Medusa also never kill woman. At least not on purpose. So if reverse is true, then KJ and Sam and I should be safe against it. Only problem we cannot see it."

Monica

She raised her hand. "Am I supposed to be okay with being bait?"

KJ immediately replied, "Yes," while Tex sent her another chilling lopsided smile.

"Well, I'm not," she pressed on, purposefully standing up from her chair and crossing the kitchen. "You can't expect me to end up some monsters meal just so you have a chance of getting this thing."

"But you're going out already," KJ said, pointing to Lili for confirmation. "New club. Girl's night. Nonsense."

"Nonsense, yes," Monica agreed. "Another reason not to go." She started out of the room, only making it to the the TV before needing to stop and collect her thoughts.

Tex

Standing, he closed the book and side-stepped everyone until he left the kitchen as well, footsteps unheard. He floated almost, like a ghost. Finding Monica didn't surprise him and he gently placed a hand on her shoulder. She didn't jump, as if she expected him there.

"Is it not far better to save the many over the one?" he said briefly, eyes spinning and wide as he gazed down to her. She was a unique specimen, one that he already enjoyed studying. Green stare lowering, he had an easy view down her shirt and then to her nicely shaped calves. Yes, indeed a specimen. He locked eyes with her again. "It will be more...attracted...to you, over Lili. Lili is too much like itself, demon's blood racing her veins. You...you're pure human. The prime target."

Her mouth opened to speak, but he placed one cold finger to her lips. She shied away at once from the contact. Tex smiled, and stepped to the door.

Lili

Lili watched Tex leave with pursed lips. A chill ran down her spine. Ugh, he was such a creep!

After he left, she hurried to the living room. She had seen Tex there earlier. Had he spoken to Monica? She looked a bit shaken.... "What did he say to you? Did he do anything to you? Ugh, he is so weird!" Lili leaned against the couch, flipping her hair back. "If he gives you any trouble, you just let me know, okay? I'll take him out for you." That afternoon had pretty much solidified their status as friends, if not best friends. Whatever distaste she might have held for Monica before was completely forgotten. As far as she knew, they were besties.

"You'll still go to the club, right?" Lili asked, switching gears, "Oh please please pleeeease go! The monster is just a side thing. We'll be having too much fun to worry about it, and Sam and KJ and Shen will be there, so we'll be totally safe. Plus, I'll be there. Please, Monica? PLEEEEEEEEASE?" Lili began to pout, "I've never had a decent girl's night out. We'll have so much fun, it'll be a fucking crime!"
