Personality

Age: 16
Gender: Female
Birthdate: 10/26/96

Bio: Adelaide, better known as Addie, won her district wide art competition on third grade for her impressive still life sketch of an apple on her table. Since that day, Addie has been dedicated to her art, especially sketching. In fifth grade, Addie got her very first kiss from the cutest boy in school named Peter during a game of truth or dare. Addie was so proud that she was the one Peter picked to kiss, and not Lucy, her supposed best friend. Moving into middle school, Addie made all new friends and took on the reserved but approachable girl personality type. In high school she kept her same friends and personality, until the day when she woke up in that dreary bedroom...

Personality: Addie is what someone might call reserved, but it's not like she's antisocial. If you approach her, she's very easy to talk to and be with. She just doesn't like to approach people because then she doesn't know if they really want to be friends with her, despite her ability. She loves to use her power to tell lie from truths judging their emotional scale, and it's come in handy quite a few times. She can sense anyone's emotion, and bend it to her will. She hates using it in negative ways, and usually only likes to bring joy and ease whenever someone is feeling afraid or down. She has a strong backbone, and doesn't stand for bullying. If she sees someone in trouble, she is quick to assess the situation and solve it for the greater good. The only issue with her power is that when she tries to manipulate a lot of emotions at once, she gets very tired and weak and has even fainted once or twice, and it takes her a few hours to recover. When she is simply analyzing emotions its okay, unless she's trying to analyze like the whole school, and she can manipulate one at a time, but when she tries multiple manipulations she gets drained very quickly.

Power/Ability: Emotional Manipulation

History: Addie first discovered her powers freshman year of high school. She was in her World Studies class, worrying about her upcoming exam, when suddenly she wasn't worried. She was afraid, joyous, hopeful, sad, helpless, excited, and annoyed all at the same time. It was suddenly like she had all these different vibes inside her head, and she instantly felt as if she was going to explode with all the emotion. Focusing on each vibe, she protruded emotions of calm and peacefulness in a manner that she had no idea how to perform, and suddenly her head quieted into a calm lull. After that episode, she felt like she would pass out any second. She was dizzy and tired, and it took everything in her just to get through the rest of the day. That night, after she had rested, she told her parents about what had happened, and they had given each other that parental look before saying that they'd discuss it in the morning, and then sending her upstairs to bed. That next morning, she awoke in a small bedroom, with no family surrounding her. She was completely alone.

Addie slammed her palm down on the snooze button in her dorm room that she shared with Slayer, Jordyn, and Hannah. Blinking the sleep from her eyes, she looked at the blinking red numbers on her clock. 7:00am, Monday morning. Groaning, she analyzed the room as usual using her powers. Everyone was calm from sleep, just like every morning. Addie sighed and pushed away her covers, sitting up in bed and rubbing her eyes, she yawned and swung her legs over.

"Guys, it's time to get up." Addie said mid-yawn, and reached over to grab her shower supplies case. Stumbling into the bathroom, she turned on the hot water and stepped in, letting the warm water cascade down her hair and back. Sighing in happiness, Addie reached out with her only dry hand and pressed the button on her tablet that read her schedule. Her first official class was Art, after breakfast and Personal Study. Smiling, she reached for the shampoo. Addie loved her art class. Art was the one thing she could rely on to keep her own emotions in check, because she always had everyone else's pounding inside her head anyway, she couldn't let her own emotions change dramatically.

Getting out of the shower, she put on her purple sundress, turquoise cardigan, and white lace flats. It was supposed to be a nice, sunny, day and she wanted to dress for the occasion. Grabbing her tablet, she yelled out a "Showers free! I'm heading to breakfast!" Glancing at her clock, it read 8:05am. Just in time, she thought, as she closed the door behind her she felt a sudden rush of emotion sweep over her. She staggered and braced her hand against the wall, feeling dizzy from the intensity. She couldn't pinpoint where the emotion was coming from, but in the next second in went away and she felt completely normal again. Something's happening somewhere, she thought, returning to normal and walking to the cafeteria.

Grabbing a seat by the window, she ate her usual small morning meal of an apple and gazed out at the sunshine just beginning to rise above the trees.

Addie finished her apple a little past 8:45, and proceeded to check her tablet. Personal Class Study. Addie smiled and headed to the library, so much better than studying alone in her room. Plus, what was she going to study for? Art? No, Addie decided to just sit and relax for the remaining hour she had alone. Back in her old home, she would have been with friends, or maybe even Peter, her ex-boyfriend. She wondered what Peter was doing? How had he reacted last year when Addie had been whisked away suddenly, never to return? What had her parents done? Probably pretended she died, Addie snorted, remembering how little they had cared about her well-being. Now she finally understood. They knew someday this would need to happen, so they were just acting as parents until Addie's powers developed. Then they could send her away without a care in the world.

Addie entered the library silently, spying Jordyn in the back corner, she walked over to her roommate with a smile on her face. As she spotted Jordyn, that wave of negative emotion from earlier flowed over Addie again, causing her knees to weaken and her tablet to fall to the ground. Addie grabbed a chair for support, and this time used her powers simultaneously to pinpoint the emotions location, but the vibes she was getting were coming from everywhere, bouncing off the walls. Just as suddenly as the emotion had come, it left her, leaving a woozy, hollow feeling inside her. What was that? Addie thought, wondering just what was in store for the students at this academy.

Reading the Math book that she had grabbed from the shelf, Hannah began scribbling down some of the problems on a separate paper. Probability questions mostly, since those were, ironically, her favourite ones. The girl always enjoyed the random outcome of these things, never knowing what was to be the end result. Although, with her powers... The surprise was much less a- Surprise.

“Hi, Hannah.”

The girl looked from her study, smiling as she nodded at Jordyn. Like with the other children, Hannah did not know much about her or any of her room-mates. Well, besides the obvious things, of course. Which wasn't much, just a few standard character traits that Hannah managed to observe.

Continuing her work, the girl was once again approached by someone though did not pay much attention other than smiling as the other girl sat down opposite of her. Hannah had a hard time communicating, as it always seemed a lost cause with those who do talk. Maybe-

*Riiing!*

Hannah quickly returned her left hand to her writing block, head lowered as she had yet again failed to make contact. The bell rang, signalling for most people to head for their next class. Sadly, the blonde-haired girl was one of them. See you around, she had said. The young girl didn't reply, just kept on being embarrassed by her failure of trying to make friends.

With most of them leaving the library – Which Hannah now only found out were... many – the girl looked about as if she wanted to sit with someone. Jordyn still hadn't left, what was she studying? Never mind, she was already approached by another; Adelaide, another room-mate. Shaking her head, Hannah continued her Math study.

I saw Amelia and another girl coming into the class, and I motioned for them to come over, and I patted the seats on the left and right of me. I leaned over and into my bag and grabbed my art kit. The lights in the room began to dim, and the large screen on the wall lit up. A plain face appeared on the screen, and I recognized her as Megan Morlani, the head teacher and operator of the quarantine.
"Hello, students. Today we will be continuing on your individual art projects, and to our new students, we have many options. We have fashion design, graphic design, and traditional art. Using your tablet, if you double click under art, the projects will come up. These are due in a week from today. All the supplies you need are in the back of the room. Enjoy yourselves." She said.
The screen went dead, and I went to go reclaim my tablet.
I walked to the back of the room. I picked up a sewing kit, some thread, a machine, a pile of some light pink and green floral fabric, and a piece of thick, black fabric elastic.
The machine is too heavy to carry, so I levitate it to the table.
I hear a crash.
Oh god. Oh god. I dropped the machine.
I turned around, and the machine is on a nearby table upside down, a piece broken.
I sigh a bit. And run to the table to check it, and it turns out I only dropped it a few inches.
I seriously need to either stop levitating things, or start paying attention in training.

Addie goes to her art class after saying a quic hello to her roommates Jordyn and Hannah. Walking down the hall, she spies the art room and gratefully enters, taking a whiff of the familiar smell of charcoal and paint. Scanning the room, she spies Amelia and Serena seated over in the corner and chuckles when Serena breaks one of the sewing machines trying to levitate it. Oh, that girl...

"Hey, guys," Addie says, taking a seat next to Amelia and grabbing her sketchpad from the usual cubbyhole she hides it in. "How are your projects coming? You have something against sewing, Serena?" Addie giggled and crossed her legs in her seat so she could comfortable sketch. Feeling her friends embarrassment over the broken machine, Addie shook her head jokingly. Amelia's emotions were neutral, but Addie felt her frustration at trying to push away her visions. She put a comforting hand on her shoulder and gave it a squeeze before returning to her sketching, beginning to draw an outline of a boy's face, feeling the need to draw something human for once instead of landscapes.

"Oh, it's going pretty good. Minus my levitating skills. I tried to jump off the loft today and levitate myself down, but I fell on my butt." I laughed. "Oh, it's going pretty good. I actually like sewing a lot when the sewing machine isn't busted."
I continued to sew, and I could see that the skirt was coming together. The size wasn't perfect, the belt was a little crooked, but, it looked good overall and it can be easily fixed. I looked down at my tablet, that read 10:56.

"Guys, I'm going to go get a head start for the library for Personal Study. See you guys at lunch!" I smiled and waved at Amelia and Addie. I started to gather my stuff up, and go and put it back on the back table. I took the machine first, and without dropping it, brought it to the back table. Soon after I put the mass of fabric on top of a small cabinet in the corner of the room. I grabbed my tablet, cord, and bag and started to walk to the library. I started down the hall, pulling out my tablet. I reviewed my schedule once again as I walked, to make sure I wasn't going to the wrong place.

I then entered the library, and went straight to the academic material. I levitated a math textbook off the shelf and onto a nearby table, where I saw a boy was sitting. I didn't see him much, but I recognized him as Jax, one of the guys in Dorm B. I sat down where my math textbook dropped, about 5 seats away from Jax. Jax was shy, and I wanted to make him feel welcome.

"Hi Jax." I said smiling a bit.

I then returned to my textbook, and began to work on bisectors. I took out some grid paper and practiced a few problems, and began to really understand the concept. I then flipped to another page, and tried some more.

Addie walked out of Art with a smile on her face. She checked her tablet and it said she had a free period for the next hour until lunch. Hmm...Possibilities...she thought and turned around so she was walking in the opposite direction of her dorm and the library. Coming to a small hallway that she knew not many people knew existed inside the castle, she made a left and walked to the very end where two large double glass doors stood high. Pushing them open quietly, she walked inside the castle's conservatory. Addie had stumbled upon it a few months ago, and ever since it has been her favorite place to just sit quietly and sketch.

Casting her senses around the room, she felt no other emotional presecence. Sighing, she took up her window seat next to a tall palm tree and several gardenias, enjoying the sunlight and warmth that flowed through the room. The conservatory was by far the most beautiful part of the castle. Taking out her sketchbook, Addie resumed her sketch of the boy's face, now beginning to start on his eyes and other facial features. She was perfectly content right in her own world.

Addie watched Serena leap around joyously in the outside field through the conservatory window. The students were never allowed outside, apart from Physical Activity. It explained why everyone was so pale. No real sunlight, no tan skin. Addie took a deep breath and reached out to Serena using her powers. Analyzing her emotions, Addie was surprised to find...sadness? Why on earth would Serena be sad when she was able to go outside and be free? Something that none of the other students were allowed to do? Addie closed her eyes and in her mind saw Serena's emotional vibe, reflecting blue for sadness. Reaching deep down inside herself, Addie pulled out the color purple for calm from her own emotional vibe, and placed it on Serena's. Soon, Serena's vibe was a mixture of purple and yellow, because with calm there was always joy as well. Addie sensed that Serena was now asleep, so she pulled back from her and opened her eyes back to the conservatory. Leaning her head against the wall, Addie took a deep breath and tried to move her legs, which she knew probably wouldn't be able to hold her up for at least a few minutes. Manipulating someone's emotion always took a lot out of her, but she was glad she was able to bring that calming joy to Serena.

Seeing her tablet flash for the end of lunch, Addie realized that she had completely missed it. She could hear her mother's voice inside her head now, "Adelaide Dawn, you're going to waste away over that sketchbook. Why do I cook for you if you never eat?" Addie shook her head, removing that memory of her mother from her mind. She wasn't hungry anyway, and she didn't need that unnecessary weight on her body. A friend had once told her that you only needed one meal to survive, and she had always lived by that since. She would eat at dinner, for now it was time for Study Hall in the library. Gathering her tablet and sketchbook, she made her way out of the conservatory and up the stairs to the library.

Opening the library's doors, she saw that not many people had entered yet. Spying a free table, she sat down and rubbed some weariness from the emotional manipulation from her eyes and waited for her friends and classmates to enter.

I turned to Addie.
"Oh, Shakespeare. I'm currently reading the Tempest. It's beautifully written. I can lend it to you if you like, once I'm done reading." I smiled at her, then turned back to my book.
"Or you can read it with me. There is an extra copy on to shelf." I pointed to the shelf closest to us, then pulled out a chair next to me.
"I don't have very many friends here..." I sighed.

Jordyn saw Hannah knick herself. "Are you okay, Hannah?" she asked.

Then, Slayer replied to Jordyn's first question.
"Oh, you know, the usual. Boring, lonely, fine overall though. Hey, you guys were just in the library, right? What was up with those flying ghost books? I've heard before that you can fight effectively with words, but that was a bit ridiculous."
At this, Jordyn started cracking up. The laughter just kept coming and wouldn't stop, but it felt good. Before today, it had been a long time since Jordyn last laughed. Finally, the laughter died down and she finished her food before replying. "We were literally jus talking about that."

When everyone was done, Jordyn stood up, checking the time. "Guys, it's time for Study Hall," she cheered. Study Hall was always amussing to her, especially when she put people to sleep. Not to be mean or anything of course. The humor she got from it was just too good to pass up. Making her way to the trash can, she threw out her trash and went back to the other girls, a small smile on her face. She slung her bag back over her shoulder, then turned to Slayer and Hannah, asking, "You guys ready to go?"

Eventually they got to the Library for Study Hall, and Jordyn went to a random table near Serena and Addie. Jordyn didn't the name of the girl Addie was talking to, but she knew they had Physical Activity and Training together. Shrugging, she put her bag on the floor and sat down, taking out the her science book.

Slayer followed Jordyn to the library, Hannah following close behind. These girls were a bit younger than her, Hannah by three years, but Slayer didn't care at all. It had already proven tough to make friends in this place, and these two seemed to accept her so quickly.

Once in the library, Slayer decided to sit with Hannah and Jordyn, and their other roommate Addie. Things were finally beginning to look less lonely. Of course, this was the library, let alone study hall, so Slayer couldn't exactly blab on and on to her friends. She wouldn't know what to talk about anyway. Life had been pretty uneventful lately, what with being trapped in this prison of sorts.

Instead, Slayer pulled out her art history book and commenced reading. Although, it was difficult to focus on the reading when there were beautiful pictures of prints, paintings, ceramics, and drawings on every page to look at. Short attention span led Slayer to pull out her own piece of paper and begin drawing.

"I love the Tempest! That's my favorite Shakespeare piece!" Addie exclaimed.

I smiled at her, happy, then I walked over to the shelf and picked up the second copy of the Tempest. I returned to my desk and slid her the hardcover book. Most of the people here are all younger then me, by as much as 5 years, but it's good to actually hang out with some people for once, instead of studying alone. I saw her and some other girls, that I recognized as Slayer, Hannah, and Jordyn sit down around us. Once they were seated, Addie broke the silence.

"How's everyone's day going? Today seems to be going by really fast, doesn't it? I kinda like it!" she says, happily. I then reply, also with the same emotion.

"Great, I honestly can't wait for training and end of the day break. Training because I don't want another mishap like the one in Art," I laugh, "and Break, because I feel I need one, I even was so desperate for a little rest I used my lunch to take a nap."

I giggle again, then go back to my book.

Within thirty minutes Slayer had covered her paper in doodles, only realizing she had been drawing too long because she had no space left. She checked the time on her tablet, which told her five minutes to 2:00. It was almost time for training. She mentally groaned. Any setting where she was being forced to use her ability made her uncomfortable.

Slayer naturally sucked at working under pressure. She could pretty much control her power while setting fire to stationary objects, but moving objects was a different story. Being able to do so would come in handy in so many ways. But first she had to learn how to do it without also setting fire to everything in the object's path. She was just so afraid of hurting someone, or herself once again. She wished that they were all required to wear fire-retardant suits, but sadly this wasn't the case.

Hannah kindly nodded when Addie asked everyone how thier day had been going. Good so far, if you didn't count that teeny tiny accident during lunchbreak. It didn't hurt to stay optimistic. Really, being a pessimist would just make things worse, and the mute girl knew that she definitely didn't want for things to get worse.

“...Plus, it's a class where you can kill things and not get yelled at.”

Came Jordyn's reply. W-what? Kill things? Hannah's jaw couldn't drop any further without touching the ground. That was just- just horrible! Why would you say such things? The girl could only hope that her roommate was... joking.

She shivered. Honestly, Hannah could never think of killing something. Especially with her powers. That was the scary part, and something that actually had her in a depressed mood for the rest of the study class.

*Ring!*

Again, that horrendous bell throwing the entire building into a mess. Within seconds, the table that Hannah had been sharing with the other girls emptied. What class? Ah, yes, training.

If she could've argued with that discussion a few minutes ago, the mute girl would've been the one to say; No, I hate training.

Training meant making use of her powers, training meant possible disaster for her, and her coach. Neither party she wished permanent harm. Lowering her head, the girl slowly gathered her stuff and headed out to her personal assigned training room. Once there, she was greeted with another staff member. Every day a new one, wasn't it? A blonde, tall man this time around. Young too. Probably new, as was evident by the fact that he didn't know Hannah at first glance. Even calling her Miss McKarte, unlike the other staff members, who simply called her by name.

Shyly nodding as a way of greeting, Hannah seated herself on the matching table and chair. She was given a memory assignment. Match the cards, one of the many basic methods that tested her ability. Oddly enough. As the young man seated opposite of the red-haired girl, Hannah watched as the man showed her one image, and she had to find the exact same one among a perfectly arranged row of flipped images.
