Katherine is often perceived as cold hearted and rude, and she often acts as such more to drive people away than to actually be so. She tends to shut people out when they come too close mostly because she has a fear of being hurt. When she was growing up she was hurt so many times she just shut everyone out and would often make rude and snide comments when it wasn't needed as a way of lashing out. Though she acts tough, on the inside Katherine is sensitive and easy broken, something she hides quite skillfully after years of practice.

Katherine doesn't remember anything before she was 5 years old. Her first memory is being surrounded by flames, screaming for her parents. After she was rescued she was put into the foster system. Moving from home to home Katherine was abused multiple times and though there were a few nice families she never stayed with them long. When she was 14 her foster family was different. There was always a lot of people around and her parents weren't much older than her as well as the fact that certain rooms were off limits to her. It didn't take her long to discover that her parents were dealing drugs and when she found out her , then current, foster father raped her. When her foster mother found out she came home drunk and attacked Katherine. In the struggle Katherine accidentally killed her foster mother and after the investigation of her foster mother's death was completed it was decided that Katherine would go into the witness protection program. They explained that her foster parents had been a part of a large drug cartel but they hadn't been able to get sufficient evidence to accuse them yet. After much consideration they decided to assign an agent to be her guardian and told her that she could choose one of two schools where they were going, an arts school or a private academy. Having always been interested in music and dance Katherine chose the Musical Arts school.
