Description: Kasumi is a beautiful young woman with a tough exterior, but a heart of gold. Her pleasant smile can light up a room while her silky voice is sweet and soothing to listen to. She has bow shaped lips which are not too full and not too thin. She often can be seen wearing a white hair band to keep her long hair out of her face when not in her plane. When she’s in her plane, she ties it up and tucks it all inside her helmet for extra cushioning. She’s almost always wearing a sleeveless collared shirt with military camouflage patterns, as she doesn’t like the feeling of sleeves covering her arms. Her boots are usually black with reinforced toes just in case she goes down and has to engage in hand to hand combat against ground forces.

Kasumi’s frame is slender, but muscular. She has smooth, lightly sun kissed skin to compliment her dark brown hair. Her neck slopes down delicately into her shoulders. She has an hourglass figure with a slender waist and perfectly proportioned hips. She has a taught, round, muscular bottom and shapely legs. Given that she spends a good deal of time jogging and training in martial arts during her down time, this comes as no surprise to her fellow pilots. Her chest is not the biggest, but it’s not exactly small either. With a comfortable 34C bust, she’s satisfied with her chest size. However, she does sometimes wish that she had a D cup, as every other woman in her family has one.

Age: 22
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bi Sexual
Ethnicity: Asian

Height: 5’ 8”
Weight: 130
Hair Color: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Brown

Birthplace: Traghin, Yllior
Current Location/Residence: Areino Base, Yllior

Station: Areino Base
Rank: 2nd Lieutenant
Personal Aircraft: F-16C

Strengths: Kasumi is very tough, both mentally and physically. She is emotionally stable and has a strong sense of morals guiding her every word and action. She’s loyal to her country and her people, and is not afraid to go the distance for them. She’s also very brave, though she knows when to back down.

Weaknesses: Kasumi’s primary weakness is something she hides from everyone around her, including her superiors… Acrophobia. That’s right, despite the fact that she’s a pilot, she is afraid of heights. Kasumi joined the air force to purge herself of this fear, and though she has grown more tolerant of it, she usually keeps her plane below 5,000 feet. She also keeps her eyes forward to avoid looking at anything below her plane that can give her a sense of distance to the ground.

Kasumi has two other weaknesses as well, both of which are fairly well known to most of her fellow pilots. The first is that she has an inferiority complex towards her older brother Daisuke, who is also a pilot and a 1st Lieutenant in the Ylliorian Air Force. The second is that her sense of morals leads her to often disregard orders from above when she believes them to be without justification. If she thinks an order is bogus, she’ll ignore them and do what she feels is right for her countrymen and her homeland.

Personality: Kasumi is one of the sweetest women you’ll ever meet. However, if you insult her family or her country you’ll receive one of two gifts. One is a tongue lashing, and the other is a date with the pavement. Kasumi is very protective of her country and her family. Insulting either one to her is a direct assault on her personally, and one she will respond to immediately. She is highly stable, boasting a powerful intellect and a strong body. She’s emotionally stable and has a near indomitable willpower that cannot be bent or broken.

She’s typically very sweet despite her toughness. She speaks softly with humility, and isn’t afraid to admit her mistakes. She’s very well mannered and polite when you earn it, and if you earn her respect you’ll have it until/unless you abuse it. Kasumi has never been one to forgive and forget, and if you’ve done her wrong you can be sure she’ll refuse to help you regardless of how badly you need it. Though a bit spiteful when someone has earned her scorn, if there is any attempt to make amends, she’ll usually accept it straight away. Again, she’s one of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet so long as you give her reason to treat you that way.

Biography: Kasumi was born in Traghin, a city on Yllior’s northeastern coastline about thirty miles from Surora Base. She is the third of four children. She has one older brother, an older sister, and a younger sister. Her parents never treated any child with favor, and so the siblings grew up with a sense of equality between them. This aided them in remaining grounded and helped them develop strong bonds which persist to this day. Daisuke, the oldest, formed a bond with Kasumi that remains unmatched. The two of them were inseparable when they were little, and often trained together in martial arts as well. Kasumi’s bond with Daisuke is one of the main reasons why she wanted to become a pilot, because he always dreamed of becoming one himself.

During Kasumi’s sub-adult years, she was exposed to the uglier side of life. She was bullied almost constantly. But thankfully her father is a master of numerous martial arts styles and taught her personally how to defend herself. Her father’s words were much stronger than those of the other children, and as such she learned at an early age not to be bothered by the bs that other kids sent her way. During her early high school years, this was very important for her. Her reputation as being stronger than most girls and being able to kick a guy’s ass made it to the ears of the football team captain of the school, and he decided to test the rumor. He ended up leaving the team due to “mysterious injuries.”

Kasumi began experimenting with her sexuality when she was sixteen. She had two boyfriends and two girlfriends before she finished her junior year of high school and found that she enjoyed both sides equally. Both held their respective qualities, though she enjoyed the brotherhood of the boys side a bit more than the girls side. She graduated high school at age seventeen and enrolled in the Air Force. She passed with flying colors, almost literally, but was medically discharged when she broke her leg during a training accident. Thankfully her father knew a few of the higher ups and managed to get her back in once she had recovered completely which took nearly one full year of physical therapy. Now that she’s back in action, she’s awaiting deployment.

So begins...

”I’m still learning the ins and outs of flying in real combat outside of the simulator, but I have faith in my fellow pilots. Breaking my leg came as a bit of a blow and prevented me from flying with them, but now I am free to join them in the skies… providing I don’t look down too often.”

Time: 0230
Date: March 19th, 2014

In the dark of night, a familiar sound pinged across the radar screen of Surora Air Force Base. The young technician observing the screen watched the new appearance with interest and scorn, not happy to have something appear so near to the end of his shift. He looked a bit closer and noticed that the new dot was heading towards the base without deviation. He enhanced the magnification of the ping and found a total of nearly thirty separate entities on screen heading towards the base at an alarming speed.

Nearly in a panic, the young man turned to his superior.

“Sir! A squadron is approaching the base at high speed!”

The commander, standing nearby observing the different stations, turned his head.

“Communications?” He asked.

Another analyst nearby spoke up.

“Non responsive, sir!” She called.

The commander reached for the comms.

“Attention, unidentified aircraft. You are approaching restricted airspace. Deviate now or you will be fired upon. Over!” He said.

Static.

He repeated the warning, but still there was no response.

“Sound the air raid sirens! Scramble our fighters now! We must protect our base!” He yelled.

————————————————————————

Sleeping soundly in her bed was Kasumi Okabe. A long haired beauty with big dreams and a big heart. Her head was cupped in her hands as the air raid sirens sounded. She started and fell out of her bed, landing on her back on the floor staring at the ceiling with wide eyes before scrambling to her feet and dressing herself.

”Attention! Attention! Scramble all pilots. This is not a drill. Repeat. This is not a drill!” Came an announcement reverberating through the base.

Kasumi didn’t need to be told that. She was dressed in seconds and on her way to her plane. Running through the halls and corridors of the base, she made her way to Hangar C-3 where her plane was waiting for her. It was an old F-16C that was about twenty years old. It had been kept in fine condition all these years by the bases best mechanics. She ran up to the plane and jumped into the cockpit as quickly as she could.

She fired up the engines and strapped herself in as the hangar doors opened and she taxied out to the runway. All around her were planes flying overhead with a few anti-air canons providing cover for the planes taking off. It was only so effective though, as a few of her allied forces were being shot down already before they could take off at all. Others still were shot down the moment they lifted off into the air, and came crashing back down on the runway itself.

Kasumi maneuvered her plane to runway 2 and was in position to take off when another plane crashed about fifty yards ahead of her right in the middle of the runway. She thought about it for a second before she heard the voice in her helmet tell her to abort take off and divert to runway 3, but she had another idea in mind. She powered up her engines and continued with her take off. Moving forward and yawing around the burning wreckage just as she picked up speed.

It was a bit of a task to get her plane lined up properly again with the runway, and a bumpy ride to boot, but within moments she had gained enough speed and lift to ease her plane into the air. As her wheels lifted off the ground, that dreaded sound of a lock on appeared. She looked behind her and saw an enemy plane lining her up, and she turned forward and grit her teeth.

“C’mon baby! Let’s do this!” She yelled.

She hit the afterburners and rocketed forward just as the sound of an incoming missile echoed through her cockpit. She jammed the stick hard left and managed to just avoid being shot down, but had lost control of her plane. She struggled with the stick for a moment and righted herself in time to avoid crashing and pulled back to lift her nose above the wall in front of her. The bottom of her plane literally cleared it with only inches to spare, but she was now airborne and in the fight.

“Alright then… Here we go,” she whispered.

Now in the air and fighting for her life, Kasumi turned her plane in time to see an enemy in front of her. Her computer began locking on, and as the screen gave her a red lock on indication, she pressed the little red button on her stick.

She didn’t yet know it, but a new war had begun.

Kasumi's plane was up and running, and on her tail was an enemy fighter. She was only able to get a quick glimpse of it, but she believed it to be another F-16. Armed with that knowledge, she knew this would be difficult. From one F-16 to another, each plane was slightly unique in its own way but overall the same aircraft. Given that hers was older, it would make things a bit tougher for her. The best mechanics were working to keep it in shape, but the framework was still a bit touchy. It was in need of a replacement of several parts as the frame became unglued at high speed and would begin to detach causing some aerodynamic issues and stability issues.

The missile warning flashed again in her HUD and she banked hard right to get away. The enemy stayed right on her, finally launching the missile as she began to straighten out. It was a smart pilot to wait like that. Almost any rookie would have fired the moment lock on occurred and missed when she banked. But not this one. Kasumi had to think fast, so she rolled to the other side and deployed her flares. She was lucky enough that the missile was fooled by it and exploded not far behind her rather than on her plane. Still the explosion sent a shockwave through her plane, rattling her head just a bit before she managed to shake it off and continue flying.

The enemy on her tail wouldn't give up, and she was getting desperate to get away from him.

"Tower, this is Kasumi Okabe, callsign 'Angel.' I'm being pursued by an enemy fighter. Requesting assistance from AA canons. Over!" She called through her comms.

"This is Tower. Roger Angel. AA canons at sector C are primed and ready for you. Over."

"Roger Tower."

Kasumi ducked and dove through the mad house that was the dogfight in the air around her as she made her way towards sector C of the base. As she came over, she watched the AA guns take aim and begin firing just as she passed over. The overlapping fire managed to catch the enemy plane as it evaded too late, and Kasumi watched over her shoulder as it went down just outside the base's walls.

"Good hits Tower. This is Angel, returning to combat zone."

"Tower. Roger Angel. Good luck up there."

With that, Kasumi returned to the dogfight.

There was a lot going on, and her eyes darted too and fro trying to find something to do. She needed to find a purpose and fast. She didn't want her first deployment to end in a failure to contribute beyond helping the AA canons do their job. Then, she spied an enemy plane on the tail of one of her fellow pilots. A man named Doug, callsign 'Lucky,' was being chased down by an enemy plane. Kasumi knew Lucky fairly well, as the two were good friends.

"Lucky, this is Angel. Over. I'm on your six. Preparing to engage bandit." She called over he comm.

"Then get that pretty ass in gear and shoot the bastard already!" He yelled back.

She giggled.

"Roger."

She lined up her foe and the lock on icon appeared. However, as she'd done before, the enemy banked away as soon as the lock on was acquired. She followed him, keeping the lock on in place as best she could. He was using a rather odd pattern to evade her, but she was good with puzzles and figured out his pattern quickly enough to form a plan. As he banked from left to right trying to break the lock, Kasumi let him wander just to the edge of the lock's range before firing as they turned. Being right in the middle of a turn made maneuvering almost impossible, and as the enemy came around again they flew right into the path of her missile. The projectile struck home right behind the cockpit, sending the plane up in flames immediately as it was blown apart.

"This is Angel. Splash one bandit." She announced.

"Good job Angel. It's about time that tight little ass of yours did something useful." Lucky called to her.

"Oh bite me Doug."

"Anytime Kasumi. Anytime."

The two friends shared a brief laugh together before both returned to the dogfight.

It was going to be a long day today. Most of the enemies had been shot down already, and the AA canons mopped up what was left. Kasumi only had the one kill, but she managed to keep her plane in tact and that was a victory in and of itself for her. Before long, the skies were cleared of hostiles, and Kasumi came in to land when the runway was cleared of debris. She parked her plane in Hangar C and went to the briefing room to hear the debrief from the commander. She knew that war was now upon them now. That much was clear. But why?

Kasumi entered the briefing room at exactly 0340 hours. She was not the last to enter, but she was one of the latter to arrive. She took her seat next to Lucky and they waited quietly for everyone to arrive as the Commander walked in and began the debrief.

"Well everyone... I don't think I need to tell you that shit has officially hit the fan."

There were some murmurs in the crowd.

"War has officially been declared by our neighbor, Edylla. They launched a preemptive strike as their government simultaneously sent the declaration officially to our own. Our base is in the best shape despite our losses, and as such we will be receiving aid from our sister bases over the next several weeks until their repairs are complete and our supply lines secured. Since we're now at war, they are officially considered compromised and must be checked and protected should the worst occur."

Again, murmurs. The Commander told everyone to shut it, before continuing.

"Now, here's what's going to happen. Myself and the Base Commander are working on putting together a list of new squadron and wingman assignments. All old squadrons and wingmen assignations are officially disbanded as of now, and are being reworked. The list will be completed by 0500, so go back to your quarters and rest until then. Check your listing and get to know your new squadron and your wingmen. Your squadrons all have jobs to do starting at 0730, and as such you'd better be ready."

One soldier raised his hand.

"Yes Sergeant?" The Commander asked.

"Sir. What's the status on the other bases exactly?"

"Ah, good question Sergeant. As of now, we can consider our base the last standing. All others, to best of me knowledge, have been destroyed beyond operational capacity. As such, all available aircraft, naval vessels, and viable ground units are being sent out way. We're going to be filled to the brim and strapped for space around here. Rooms will have to be shared with the new arrivals until their own bases are repaired. All efforts are being made to ensure that comes about as soon as possible, so don't get too worked up about it. Tensions are likely to grow as we're filled to capacity here, so keep yourselves together and represent proper."

He looked around.

"Anymore questions?"

Silence.

"Dismissed!" He announced.

Everyone left the briefing room, with Lucky and Kasumi staying behind.

"So what do you think?" He asked.

"I think it's a load of crap, personally."

He laughed.

"I hear you. Sudden and unprovoked attack and war declaration? Crap indeed."

Kasumi nodded.

"So, what will you do now?" He asked.

"I'm going to go back and lay down. I'll check my new squadron assignment soon."

"Need some company?"

Kasumi gave him a sideways glance.

"Oh please. If I need a man to ruin my life, I could do better than you."

"... Ouch!" He said, putting his hand over his heart.

"That hurt you know."

Kasumi smiled and laughed. Lucky laughed too, standing up and giving her a smack on the shoulder.

"Well, take care Angel. Good luck with your squadron."

"Yeah. You too."

He left the room, and Kasumi waited a minute more before returning to her room. It was going to be interesting to find out who her new squadron mates were and who her new wingman would be. She hoped it would be someone she knew, but with new arrivals incoming the chances of that were going to be slim.

"Well everyone... I don't think I need to tell you that shit has officially hit the fan."

Well, no shit, Sherlock. Alex thought as murmurs rippled through the crowd.

More hushed whispers. The Commander told everyone to shut it, and continued.

He looked around.

"Anymore questions?"

Silence.

"Dismissed!" He announced.

Alex got up and followed the crowd out, and quickly hunted down a comms operator. Finding one, he tapped him on the shoulder.
"How can I help you?" The operator asked.
"I need a line to the Sentinel," Alex said. "They're expecting a report."
The operator nodded. "You're name's Alex?" Alex nodded. "Sentinel actually called us recently. I suppose you heard about it in the briefing."
Alex nodded. "Yeah. I guess I'm not heading back to the Battle Group, am I?"
The Comms operator shook his head. "Probably not. The postings for new squadrons should be up soon, though. You should check that out when they're up."
Alex nodded, thanked the man, and went on his way. He started walking around, wandering aimlessly. He ended up in pilots' quarters, and turned a blind corner-

Then walked right into another person coming the other way. Surprised, Alex took a step back. "Sorry, didn't see you there."
She was thin, with long brown hair and somewhat pale skin. Like himself, she was wearing a pilot suit. "Got any idea when they're going to put up squadron assignments? Or where I can get a fresh change of clothes?"

”I’m still learning the ins and outs of flying in real combat outside of the simulator, but I have faith in my fellow pilots. Breaking my leg came as a bit of a blow and prevented me from flying with them, but now I am free to join them in the skies… providing I don’t look down too often.”

Kasumi walked down the hall and round a corner before almost bumping into someone. It was a young man. He looked to be slightly younger than herself. He stood about two inches taller than she did, and was obviously a pilot.

"Well, the squadron assignments will probably be posted for everyone back in the briefing room and might also be posted at the hangar doors since all of the pilots have to go through them to reach their aircraft. As for your place to change? Well, you could try the bathroom, but if you change there you're more likely to get towel slapped in the ass than left in peace to change. Follow me." She said, turning on her heel and walking back down the hall.

She led the young man to Lucky's room, knocking on the door. When Lucky answered, he gave Kasumi a smirk.

"Hey Angel! Come to keep me company?" He joked.

She shook her head.

"Nope. I've got plenty company right here." She said, grabbing her breasts.

Lucky laughed, turning away and hiding his face behind the doorframe as he started cracking up uncontrollably.

Kasumi shook her head and turned to her new acquaintance.

"Sorry about Doug. He's a nice enough guy. He's your size and has too many outfits for his own good since he likes to look at himself in the mirror most of the time."

Doug stopped laughing and looked out the door giving a thumb's up.

"Guilty!" He said.

"He'll loan you one of his outfits for now until you get your hands on a new outfit of your own."

She walked passed him down the hall, disappearing around a corner.

"Hot, isn't she?" Doug asked the newcomer.

"Every guy in this base wants some quality time with her if you know what I mean. I give her crap about it to make her laugh. Normally she's touchy on that subject, but whenever I joke about it she seems to brighten up. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. C'mon inside and pick out an outfit to wear and get that one washed." He said, backing away to give him room to come inside.

Chance walks stands there in front of the billboard. Sighed, and then he walked back to the quarters area in which he saw two men and a woman. 1 had dirty pilot clothes, which was obvious, and the other seemed like he was talking to both the man with dirty clothes and the girl. He ignored them and walk but accidentally bumped into them. He stopped and turned around and then sighed and try to walk away.

why is it always me he thought to himself. Not knowing how they would react. He went to the Cafeteria to get some quick chow. "Hey what Squad did you guys get?" One of the Airmen said. "I got Wareagle Squadron!" Said another one enthusiastically. "Hey Chance buddy what did you get?" Lieutenant Josh asked me as he sat down next to me, then the other pilots sitting on my table hushed up and waited for me to answer. "War Angel..." Chance said to them annoyed. Chance lost his lunch soon after, and got up and walked away hearing the whispers of his other pilots. He wasn't a fan of fame or glory, but he didn't like the fact that it might be like the last war that was fought in which his whole squad was left dead, and he was alone again just like the Scorch Earth tactic that the damned Edylla made.

Kasumi walked down the halls past another young man on her way, only giving him a side glance for a moment to check him out. He seemed a bit irritated at something so Kasumi went about her business and did not trouble him.

She wandered through the base aimlessly until 0500 when she decided to check the briefing room to see who was in her new squadron and who her wingman was, or for whom she was flying wing for. Once she reached the briefing room, she saw the posting on the wall. Her new squadron was, ironically, War Angel. Given her callsign of 'Angel,' it was kind of funny at first to see that her new squadron carried her callsign. She checked the listings to see who else was there, and found she was flying number 2 on the wing of the squadron leader. And who was it?

Yep... It was that jokester Lucky.

She shook her head with a smile and laughed to herself as she walked away from the board. She held her sides as she leaned against the walls of the hallway and laughed it off. Once she finished, she wiped a tear from her eye and made her way back to her quarters. There was nothing more to do at the moment. 0730 would mark the moment when the new squadrons would be assigned their first duties together, which would likely be either flying reconnaissance to ensure the borders and territorial waters were safe and unintruded, as well as engaging any trespassers. Now that they were officially at war, all aircraft, either non responsive or hostile in nature, were green lit to be shot down upon identification.

Kasumi made her way back to her chambers and rested. She slept until 0715, when she awoke, cleaned herself up, and made her way to Hangar C where her plane was stationed. It was also where her squadron was supposed to meet. With Lucky as squadron leader, things would undoubtedly be interesting. Plenty of chatter over the radio, that much was ensured. Kasumi made her way to the hangar and found Lucky already there. He, like herself, was now waiting for the rest of the squad to show up.

"How's it going Angel? You ready to stare at my ass once we're in the air?" He asked.

Kasumi laughed.

"If I'll be staring at anything, Lucky, it'll be something much brighter than you."

"Ouch! Ever the heartbreaker aren't you."

Kasumi gave a bow and a curtsy, and the two of them laughed together for a few moments longer as they waited for the rest of their squadron to show up.

Chance couldn't sleep at all due to the large amounts of sleep he got the other day. So he spent most of the time reading till it was 0730. He then grabbed his book and started reading while walking to hangar C. As he was walking while reading he wondered what it would be like not being Blue Phoenix 1 or Blue Phoenix. It would certainly be different. He thought to himself. He entered through the hangar and saw two people already there. A man, and the woman he bumped into. He realized that there might be unnecessary trouble, so he decided to still keep quiet like usual and only response to commands, and get used to being War Angel 3. He arrived and sat in a chair and started reading a children's book called "Teddy Bear's Delight" to keep his mind off the war. He then gripped onto his closed pendant, not knowing that at the same time his eyes were beginning to tear up. He quickly catched it and then wiped it away as quickly as he can, and took a deep breath. He then faced both the man and woman and introduced himself, but couldn't bear to do it.

So instead he continued reading the children's book, staying silent at the same time. I hate my life. He thought to himself as he waits for his other wingman and the C.O for briefing

”I’m still learning the ins and outs of flying in real combat outside of the simulator, but I have faith in my fellow pilots. Breaking my leg came as a bit of a blow and prevented me from flying with them, but now I am free to join them in the skies… providing I don’t look down too often.”

Lucky waited for everyone to show up before he started the briefing.

"Alright everyone, listen up!" He said, standing up and walking to the center of the little semi-circle they all formed.

"Not all of us are from the same bases, not all of us are friends. Tough shit. Right now, the only thing you need to be concerned with is that we're a team. We're going to fly as a team, and we're going to treat one another as teammates. If you have problems with anyone, you bring it to my attention first and I'll decide where to go from there. If it can be solved, I'll solve it. If it can't, I'll discuss with the higher ups to get you on another squad."

He looked around.

"Any questions?" He asked, looking around.

Nobody seemed to have any, so he nodded.

"Good, then we can continue. Our first job is a recon mission. We're flying vector 080 degrees east to a rendezvous point eighty miles out to sea to a naval gathering with two aircraft carriers. We're to land on the carriers to refuel before flying vector 170 degrees south sixty miles before returning home. If we find anything along the way we are to engage in communications. If those fail, I'll receive permission from home base to return fire. Until then, all weapons safe. No engagements without my say so."

He looked around.

"Any questions?"

Again, none.

"Excellent! Then get in your planes and taxi single file by your squad number to runway two. It's been cleared of all debris and is safe for landing and take off. Let's get moving."

With that, Lucky hopped up into his plane and kicked up the engines. He tested his instruments and checked with tower for the clearance to take off. Once he got the okay, he let everyone know it was time to get moving. Angel followed him out as she was War Angel 2, with the others following in numerical order behind her. Lucky fired up his afterburners and took off, Angel and the others in toe.

"Alright everyone, comms up and keep in communication. We're flying a simple formation. Angel is #2 on my wing. Alex, you're #3. Mr. 'Stravghli's Angel' is #4. Stick to my tail and don't wander."

"This is Angel 2, roger." Kasumi responded.

"This is Angel 4 roger." Chance said as he went in his plane, responded, and then followed in from behind Angel 3, or Alex. He got to Runway 2 and was ready to take off. "I honestly hope this mission isn't going to be a pain in the ass." He said with a sigh. He then began to took off with Lucky, Angel, and Alex. "Now that we are up in the air and know our mission, why don't we just introduce ourselves? It's gonna be a long fly and I would like to know who is part of my team a bit more." He said quietly in the radio, before an AWACS plane came in. "This is Sky Eye and we are in command of you guys." The person in the AWACS said. Chance then begin to sighed as he knew what was going to happen next. A long ass introduction by the Awacs like usual. he thought to himself as he looked around to see what was the North exactly like in the afternoon. He realized that he actually loved travelling. He then took a deep breath and said on the radio. "This is Angel 4, name's Chance..." He said as he looked around some more and noticed some unidentified targets. "Unidentified targets on my radar, do you guys see them?" Chance said on high alert.

"Angel 3, orders confirmed." Alex went up in the replacement F-5E that he'd been assigned, and took up his position off Angel 2's right wing. The F-5E's loadout made it blatantly obvious that this wasn't any ordinary recon mission.
Twin launch rails on each wing, fitted with four AIM-7F Sparrows, and four AIM-120D AMRAAMs, not to mentions the AIM-9M Sidewinders on the wingtip launch rails. This isn't recon. This is Search and Destroy.

"Now that we are up in the air and know our mission, why don't we just introduce ourselves? It's gonna be a long fly and I would like to know who is part of my team a bit more."

That came from Angel 4, Chance. Alex was about to reply with a request to save the intros for the ground after the mission when an E-3 Sentry pulling AEW&C duty came onto the comms. No sooner did they check out than Chance came back onto the comms, this time with a more serious tone in his voice.

"Unidentified targets on my radar, do you guys see them?"

Alex's eyes shot to his own radar screen. "I've got pings from AWACS." He confirmed. "Sev-, no, eight bogies, maintaining steady Northeast flight path."
AWACS came back quickly. "They're confirmed as bandits. You guys are the only flight operating in that section of airspace."

Alex didn't hesitate. He set an AMRAAM ready to fire, but his radar had the enemy out at 200 nautical miles, just a bit more than double his maximum range. "Angel Lead, your orders?"

"Wait for Angel Lead's orders goddamn it!" Chance said extremely frustrated. "We don't know clearly what is to happen, we are here to do recon but as Angel 1 said we are not to engage, and if you don't follow orders you could get your ass a court martial with the higher ups." Chance explained a little bit annoyed. "Angel 1 what's your orders sir, do we engage or no? Or do we go and check if they are actually hostile or not, and go by usual airspace warnings and requests on the radio." Chance asked seriously, because it could mean either life and death in this situation, and he chooses not to die yet. "God, why is it the recons that get taken out first." Chance said. As he is hearing silence from in the radio, because everyone is trying to hear Lucky's orders.

AWACs was almost immediately on the horn, which was strange. Lucky didn't think there'd be any enemies this early on in their flight. If they made it passed the naval rendezvous point, then there was a much bigger problem brewing ahead.

Then, there was a crackling on his comm. He listened intently to the message given, and was rather shocked to be listening to it.

"This is Angel One, all planes, weapons safe and don't deviate. Stay in formation and don't move an inch!" He called.

Kasumi was getting nervous. The enemies were getting closer, but Lucky didn't want them to move for some reason. The closer the enemies got, the more nervous she became. A warning flashed on her screen about a missile lock for a brief instant, and then disappeared.

What on earth was that? She thought.

Then, from out of nowhere, missiles went sailing passed her canopy. Kasumi jumped in her cockpit seat, watching the missiles sail passed at amazing speed. The enemy planes began trying to break away, but each and every single one of them fell to one of almost a dozen missiles that flew passed their planes in formation. Kasumi looked down and saw her hands were shaking, and she turned her head to see who was coming.

*Static*

"War Angel Squadron, this is the Commander of the Royal Dragon Squadron. All hostiles cleared from radar. Continue your flight path."

Kasumi's ears must have been deceiving her.

She looked up just in time to see a squadron of six F-22 Raptors zip by overhead in formation as they raced ahead of War Angel. Kasumi sat back in her seat in shock and amazement.

"... Lucky, was that really them?" She asked.

"Yep. That was them Angel," he responded.

Chance looked up from the window of his plane. "Royal Dragon's Squadron uh?.." He said to himself with his radio off. He remembered then gripped on his pendant at the memories of first seeing those insignia's on the plane during the time Stavghli was taken and pillaged to the ground. Immediately making him remember why he joined the Air Force in the first place. He swore that he would pay all of those Edylla bastards back. "Alright let's get this over with..." Chance said sternly, but without emotion over the radio as the Royal Dragon Squadron was flying off on their own path. He continued flying in formation with his squadron. "This is Angel 4, callsign Lost. We are close to the designated Recon area. While we are at it, what we we supposed to be looking for exactly? You know to where we just got our asses saved by the Royal Dragon Squadron." He said as he noticed something on the ground. "Hey you guys see that? What's on the ground?" He said trying to look at the ground. "What is that?" He said as he took a picture of it with the camera attached to his plane for these specific reasons, and sent it to AWACS.

"Angel 1 what are your orders? Stay in formation or do you want one of us to investigate it?" He said curious hoping he could break away from his steady formation to check out what it is.

"Angel 4, this is Angel 1. Stay in formation. The information has been sent to AWACs and is out of our hands now. They'll decide what to do with it."

He shook his head and let out a sigh.

Kids... he thought to himself.

"AWACs, anything new on radar?" He asked.

"Nothing Angel 1. Skies are clear. You're about to fly go out to sea, so keep your eyes forward. Don't need you losing track of the horizon and crashing into the water."

"Roger that smartass. Angel 1 out."

He shook his head with a smirk as they entered open water. For almost thirty minutes they flew in relative silence. The incident with the enemies that appeared out of nowhere and were shot down by the Royal Dragon Squadron seemed to have killed the mood. They met with the carriers, landed, refueled, and took off for the southern route for their recon. Again, the flight was empty. Nothing appeared on radar and nothing seemed to be interesting or warrant any deep conversation.

They returned to base a few hours later, landed, and exited their planes. They made their way to the briefing room upon instruction where they were met with the base commander.

"Alright fledgelings, listen up. Your flight was nearly engaged by enemy forces which were dispatched by Royal Dragon Squadron. They found and terminated two more flights overseas that were along your route. Each of them were almost a dozen strong. You should consider yourselves lucky they were covering your route as a precaution."

Lucky raised his hand.

"Yes?"

"Sir, what were they doing here? I heard that war was declared and everything, but how did they get so far? And why didn't the navy report it before we were ambushed?" Lucky asked.

"Ah, good question. And the answer is: We don't know. There must be a leak somewhere. The carriers were right in the path of that flight. Either they flew friendly IFF signals to get by them or someone who should have identified them screwed up and let them go by without a fight. Regardless, we have problems and they're only going to get worse from here if we don't figure it out."

The commander handed Lucky a folder which he opened and looked through before looking back up at the commander.

"You're sending us out again already?"

"We have no choice. We're short on pilots now and you're all we've got to check into a matter that has us all concerned."

"So what is it?" Kasumi asked.

"Well Angel, you'll find out when you get there. That object that Angel 4 found and reported to AWACs was nothing but a downed plane. One of ours yes, but nothing to be concerned about. Your concern is something far more interesting. Something unidentified. You leave in twenty minutes, so get your butts in your planes and wait for confirmation to take off. Dismissed."

Lucky closed the folder and walked out with Kasumi and the others close behind. He continued to examine the file and check the information available, but there wasn't much there. All they knew about this was that they were checking on an unknown object about ten miles northwest along the coastline from where Angel 4 found the downed plane. He hopped into his plane and taxied to runway 2 as before and waited. He sat there for about ten minutes before they were given permission to take off. Once they were up, he gave some very strict orders.

"Alright guys, listen up. Since we don't know what this is, we're flying with caution. Nobody makes a move without my say so. Weapons safe. No exceptions, no compromises. Got me?"

"Angel 2, roger."

"Angel 4, Roger..." Chance said with a sigh. He began to taxi his plane to runway two right behind Angel 3, waited for takeoff. "Where to now sir ?" Chance said with emphasis on the sir. He was exhausted, and felt like Lucky didn't like him at all, probably because he thinks that he's a nugget that doesn't know shit, but honestly he's just the same. Just suck it up . He thought to himself. Chance knew that even if it was mistreatment or whatever, he would have to just suck it up and deal with it. He has a goal and that's revenge for his family and his village, and he has nothing left to lose. So he must live to provide them peace that they didn't die in vain, and that if he dies he dies protecting his country, and his comrades. "I'm sorry... let's just get this over with..." He said on the radio again waiting for control to give the green light for his squad to take off.

He's not sure what's going to happen next, but he had a very bad feeling about it. I guess it was today's excuse of a lunch that made it even worse.

"Eager to get the job over with eh?" Lucky responded to Angel 4.

"We're going to a location on the coast about ten miles northwest of where you found the downed plane. Apparently there's something interesting there for us to investigate."

"Angel, how are things looking on your end babe?" He asked.

"Things are fine on my end. All instruments are optimal as far as I can see... And don't call me babe."

"Ah, just having some fun. Don't get your panties in a bunch."

Kasumi turned off her comm and laughed to herself before turning them back on when she calmed down.

"I just don't have a good feeling about this, plus I'm not finished with my book..." Chance responded back to Lucky. "Hmm... I don't like this even more, but if we must, we must..." Chance said then laughed in the radio. "Hey Lucky do you always flirt and get rejected by pretty girls?" He said messing with him then gave a snicker. "I'm ready to takeoff, what's taking them so long?"

"Well I can say that I get rejected by Angel here all the time. I don't usually fail with other girls though. In fact, in the last four years, she's the only one who's rejected me outright."

"Aww, you're making me blush!" Kasumi announced.

Lucky laughed, but as the laughter died away, he drew in a serious tone.

"I'm with you on the 'it doesn't feel right' vibe there Chance... Something about this bit of recon has me concerned. First the enemies snuck passed our defenses, and now we're being sent to investigate an unknown. There's definitely something fishy about this."

"Yeah, I got that feeling too." Kasumi chimed in, feeling her stomach turn a little as they came within about an hour of their destination.

"Well it's hard getting someone as beautiful as her" Chance said with a joking manner, then switched to serious. "Wait, isn't the destination we are heading to miles off to where I found a downed plane that was one of ours?" Chanced said. "Man, not only does this give me a bad feeling but today's excuse for a lunch sure isn't helping at all." Chance said sickly. trying to fly in formation. "Hey Angel if I get shot down it's probably cause I fell for ya." Chance said Jokingly again trying to keep the horrible thoughts of something bad happening to them, just like his old squadron.

He gripped on his pendant again, having the memories of his fallen comrades and his family. I won't die, and I won't let these people go down... Chance thought to himself.
