Introduction
The old man drew a heavy, shuddering breath as he struggled to keep his eyes opened and clung to life like a child would cling to its mother. Carefully he took the little childβs tiny and smooth hand into his old and wrinkled one. Sadness reflected in his old eyes as he gazed at his granddaughter tiredly, drawing another heavy breath. "It was not supposed to be like this," the old man whispered weakly in a raspy voice, "if only my son has still lived," he continued, carefully stroking her hand with his thumb, "if only your father was still alive, princess. Then you would not have to bear this burden upon your shoulders at such a young age..." the old king smiled at her sadly, worthlessly, "don't repeat the mistakes your father made, child. He was brave, but a fool at heart," the old king shook his head as he sighed heavily, "if only he had not been so eager to rush into war..." the old kings mouth twitched awkwardly as he shut his eyes, his hand starting to become limp, "promise me, child," he whispered, "promise me you will run the realm with wisdom in mind," the old man drew a few last shuddering breaths, before he went totally still.
Ah, the realm of Adacia. A sandbox world where the dream of power over magic and wonder have the impact on each and every character in its own unique way. Although most use this in an innocent fashion, many of the nobles have become greedy for it, also driving everything that happens within Adacia. Essentially, this power drives Adacia's exploration, love and war, lust and betrayal, promises and deceit, poverty and wealth. Even with this evil, good can be found within the discovery of new locations and species. Power is good and evil, not one versus the other, so... Which side do you favor with your power?
Every village, town, and city in Adacia is ruled by a lord or headman. These are usually noble families who were handpicked by the king. These were people he trusted. But what happens when the king passes away? When all that is left is his ten years old granddaughter to inherit the throne? Will the nobles remain loyal to the vows they took before the king, or will they turn their backs on their promises, and greedily grasp after every straw of power and wealth there is? After all, the queen is nothing but a child, one with only a title to give her power. She holds no power over magic. No power over wisdom and knowledge. No power over them. They have been given the perfect opportunity to seize control.
***
Basically, you can play any kind of character you wish, limited only to the different species that exist in this RPG and locations. However, the more your characters explore and find things out, the more the world will grow and species and locations will be added. Other than that nothing is pre set, and everything can happened. As mentioned before, it is a sandbox role play where just anything is possible.
Species
Humans
A human is a living being who is incapable of possessing supernatural abilities. Despite having no supernatural abilities, however, humans have exceptionally developed brains which enable them of abstract reasoning, language, problem solving, and introspection (i.e. self-observation of one's own thoughts, feelings, or 'souls' in spiritual cases). The distinguishing features that define them as a 'person' are the high-leveled thought processes such as self-awareness, exercise of reasoning (i.e. rationality), and wisdom.
Mages
A few humans are born with the ability to control magic, and can draw mana from their surroundings to with help of that practice magic. These individuals are rare, though, and only a few of those existing are actually powerful. Every so called mage usually has connection to one of the four elements, and are only capable of using magic connected to it. Those who wield more than one element, tend to only be able to use weaker spells. So really, it is good if a mage finds out what their best element early on, and thereafter focuses on only that.
Witches
Witches are generally female, although there have been a very few male ones, who are dedicated to the dark arts (in most cases). Witches are incapable of crossing running water, can't stand the touch of silver, and detest rowen wood and salt. Iron weakens them as well. Their powers include casting spells, the concoction of potions, superhuman speed, and finally great strength that rivals and exceeds that of a full grown man. Many tend to have a very exquisite nose and hearing as well. Powerful witches, when killed, may come back as a type of spirit or ghost who feeds on human flesh. The only ways to be sure that you are rid of a witch is to either burn her or eat her heart. The former version is understandably the generally preferred method to dispose of them.
Selkies
The shy Selkies are marine creatures in the shape of a seal. A female can shed her skin and come ashore as a beautiful woman. When a man finds the skin, he can force the Selkie to be a good, if somewhat sad, wife. Should she ever recover the skin, she will immediately return to sea, leaving her husband behind. The male Selkies are responsible for storms and also for the sinking of ships, which is their way of avenging the hunting of seals.
Mermaids
These are very attractive maidens from the waist up and with the lower-half of a fish below. They are able to transform into a full human form to attend markets and fairs to buy items. Though they can be on land for a while, they will always long to the sea. The sea is where they belong, and if a mermaid is kept from it, she will become very depressed. Usually they are seen out at sea on a rock combining their long hair.
Sirens
Even if sirens are maidens of the sea, much like the mermaids, there are several vital differences. Instead of a siren having only a fishtail and then the upper body of a maiden, even the human looking parts tend to have scales. The overall appearance of a siren is more fish/sea monster like. Their hair usually is shades you may find underwater or in the sea, as is their skin. Their teeth are usually pointy, made for taring in flesh. However, there is still an enchanting beauty with them, and their singing voices can be as hypnotic as destructive. As they feed on human life force and flesh, they are known for luring fishermen and sailors to them, before pulling them underwater and drowning them.

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 6 authors
There was a day when Floralia was watching the port that her overseer decided to take her down to it, among the people that resided there. She remembers that day most, of all since her grandfather's death, and she loved walking through the crowds and being able to give them help and assistance if that is what they so needed and desired. That night was almost just as magical when they walked along the pier and looked out across the ocean at the night sky. "It's beautiful." She whispered to her overseer before they traveled back to her lonesome palace.
"I may as well allow her to explore, not like she is going to affect anything if she is hurt or kidnapped." The overseer stated firmly to one of the maids who had scolded him for taking her out.
"Yes, sire, but she is still a girl and she is still going to be queen. Maybe that day isn't for years to come, but it will come, and when it does she will be able to take power back again." The maid strains in a whisper, trying to prove her point that the little princess should not be allowed out. From that day on, the most freedom Floralia could receive was that of her outdoor instructions or when she had the free time to take her pony down to the gates and watch the other children playing in the sunlight just on the other side. This was not the life and inability to control the power that was held within Adacia that she wished to have. She needed a way to regain that power, but for now, she would not and could not and would and could only watch the common child play with his or her toys more freely than she ever might be allowed to.
Verna arrived at her camp moments later. She hadn't eaten in four days, the hunters had wiped out almost every animal that she could hunt. She laid on the ground and looked up. She could see a banner waving in the distance. It had to be from the castle. Verna clenched her teeth. She hated how the people in the castle were lavishly feed, the best thing Verna every tasted was a slice of day old bread. She had never had fresh baked bread. She longed to be taken care of without a care in the world. She knew even the royal family didn't have that privilege. It was impossible not to worry about something.
Verna carefully picked the deadly, dangerous berry known as the snake berry. Like the venom of a snake, it would kill you. If mixed with Death Knight, another type of berry, it could kill in a matter of seconds. Verna made money in many ways. Stealing, selling poisons, assassination, you name it. She was mixing up a poison to assassinate a royal cook who had taken a man's child by force and made the small child work for him. She was going to sneak in there while he was cleaning the kitchen and stab him with a blade with the "Death Snake" poison on it.
Hours later Verna emerged from her hiding spot where she was watching the castle. She saw the cook. She grinned and headed towards the castle.
Sylvie approached the largest cavern, home to to the leader. She slowly swam inside and bowed before him respectively "Um sir, I am requesting your permission to journey out into the world of the land, at least as close as I am permitted. The king nodded thoughtfully for awhile before replying "Well I guess, you must however sign a contact detailing that you will not reveal any of our secrets nor take anyone to our caverns without our express permission. Sylvie was barely listening to him and just signed the contact blindly, what did it matter? She was free!
After meeting with the king she said her goodbyes to her family and packed up her bags for exploring.
"Now, Flora... dear... I can't take you out of the gates anymore." He sighed and looked legitimately depressed. Floralia was shocked that he denied her request because it was only going to be for a little while. She began to cry and ran off to her room angry and even more lonely. She thought for sure he would have taken her outside, but no... She was to remain trapped in her gates.
That evening, she skipped dinner to remain within her locked doors of her room. If she were to be trapped, then she would prefer to be trapped in her room with the blinds shut so she could see no one at all. However, a strong gust of wind forced the doors to her balcony to fly open. She let out a slight whimper as she looked out into the sky, still bright with life, wonder and excitement. She wanted to have part of that. She really did. As she walked over to the balcony where she could look out to the sea and her people in the East quarter, she remembered that desire. "I will get out." She whispered to herself as she ran back into her room, calling in a maid to dress her in the most simple dress she had, then she sent the maid away as soon as she had called her in.
Running throughout the palace, dodging her own guards, maids, caretakers, and overseer, she finally made it to the courtyard. From there she quickly made her way to one of the back gates, one she knew would be open at this time of day due to shipments of food and fruits, and fled through it. It wasn't enough to just be outside the gates, though. She needed to see her people.

After a tiresome journey around the East side of her home city, Floralia sat herself on the pier and watched the fishermen work their wonders with the nets, catching everything they could out on the seas to feed her and all the families of the city. At one point, an elderly fisherman went over to where she sat and sat with her, watching the same men as she was watching.
"You know, there was a rumor that about a month ago someone caught up a mermaid. He brought her on land and tried to show the rest of us his catch, but she was already dead. We accused him of murder of an innocent woman and falsification of a mermaid. The experts said it was fake, but wouldn't it be dandy if they were real?" He rambled to Floralia as she sat there, listening intently. She was unsure whether he knew who she was or not, but a moment later, before she could ask her question, he wandered back to his fishing boat. She watched the boat set sail into the ocean from which it came.
"Yes, sir, it would be nice if they were real." She murmured to herself as she watched the murky, yet clear waters beneath the pier on which she sat.
The setting changes from The Realm of Adacia to Corell
Floralia caught her breath as the creature flailed about in the net, making strange noises and calls. She didn't have enough time to think about the problem at hand and as a little girl what could she do? "Stop!" She called out in a strong child's voice. "I am princess Floralia of Adacia and I pray that you stop hurting it." She wasn't even sure where her voice had come from because normally she wouldn't speak to adults in such a way. "What if that beast calls for its friends and they destroy our pier? What then? We will have no trade and no wealth in our beloved city of Corell, so you shall stop!" Floralia was truly shocked by how many people had become quiet, but was even more confused by the beast itself. She hadn't believed them to ever exist. What other creatures and beings exist in their grand realm?
Steadily, the little princess made her way through the crowd of men, women, and children who had gathered. She wanted to view the beast for herself. They parted and made a path for her, more likely out of curiosity than truly being aware of her status, for they all knew, even then, that a child cannot actually wield the power of a kingdom. "Hello." Floralia murmured to the creature as she sat down next to the netting it was trapped within. "I am the Princess of Adacia. I can help you." She continued, peering into its human-like eyes.
~~
Floralia watched the terrified creature a moment longer before waving a fisherman with a knife over to her. "Cut the ropes, please..." She begged of him and he only lifted his knife up to the netting by the mermaid's face for a moment before he began slicing into the netting as his princess had pleaded. He knew Floralia was truly the princess because he had seen her during her tour of Corell many months ago. Once the majority of the ropes were cut, Floralia looked at the weak creature and put a hand out to the mermaid's face to touch its hair. What she had heard was true, colors of expensive silks and the texture of seaweed was exactly what mermaid hair was like. The man finished cutting the rope before stepping back into the crowd of people trying to get a peek of the mysterious being.
"Make way! The king's men need through!" Floralia heard the shouts of the guards at the other end of the pier, knowing that they had found her. With that call, she pointed to the water and backed away from the mermaid so she could flop back in and swim away. Floralia would be okay spending her time in the castle because she knew that the mermaid would always be out there for her to see. "There she is!" One of the guards shouted as they shoved their horses through the crowd to grab her.
Floralia's eyes spun around to look in fear at the guards about to recapture her and throw her back into her magnificent cage. She didn't want to go back yet, even though she wanted to still be a piece of it. The guards picked her up and forced her onto a horse with one of them and began carrying her back to the palace.
Elsebeth moved them clumsily, being careful not to get them wet before surveying her whole body, it was new and odd without her tail. With a start she realized that she was naked and grabbed hold of a torn piece of sail that was dangling down from the dock. She wrapped it around herself as best as she could then, still being careful to keep her legs dry, yanked herself up onto the dock.
Elsebeth looked around herself curiously, she was a little scared of all the people and wanted to get out of their way as quickly as possible. Holding on tightly to the sail she attempted to stand up and her legs not yet strong collapsed under her weight. "Ow." She exclaimed wincing and pulled herself along to a box where she pulled herself up, holding onto it for dear life. This was going to be difficult.

When they arrived at the castle, Christopher made his stallion come to a halt and then dismounted, giving him a gentle pat on the muzzle. "Well done, Dancer," he praised the young horse softly before turning his attention to the queen. Reaching up his hands, he gently took hold of her and lifted her down from the horse, carefully placing her down on the ground. "Are you well?" he asked, a look of worry momentarily crossing his features, "you are not hurt, are you?" He hadn't seen anything that actually indicated that she was hurt or anything, but he didn't wish to take any chances. What he said was true. The world outside court was dangerous, and even the one within the walls of the castle was. You could never be careful enough. That was why people like him always had to keep an eye on her, to make sure she was safe. Christopher was ashamed, as he had not done his duty correctly. After all, he had let the princess get away. It was something he could not allow happening again.
" Hello." She said softly, looking the other mermaid up and down. Elsebeth recognized her from where she had passed through that mermaid city when she was around seventeen, though she couldn't remember her name. Assuming that the girl didn't know hers either she started to talk. " Elsebeth, I just got out of the water and let them dry off. I guess... " Elsebeth said frowning slightly.
Floralia nodded her head obediently at his question, wondering what it would be like without her. How was she, but a young child, so terribly important to the entire realm? She understood her importance over Corell, but everywhere else? She had been taught about power and how people take and keep it, but she felt as if she possessed none of the qualities it would take to be a good leader. Had that day shown this? Had it shown that she should have had a sibling born to take the throne for her in her stead? She shivered slightly at her demeaning thoughts, feeling less necessary than she had before his questioning and only more depressed.
When the finally arrived back to the palace and its stables, the guard helped her down from her seat on the horse, asking more questions about her health. Of course she was fine, other than her slight anger at herself and her definite anger at everyone within her palace walls. She could not understand why she could not simply pass time with her own people. Why did she have to remain within the palace walls all day? As she walked away from him with only a childish glare to prove that she was fine, she thought about what he had said about exploring... she just had to talk to him first. "Wait!" She called, turning back to the guard. "What is your name? I need to make sure I can find you every day so we can go out." She inquired, thinking of investigating her city more every day after her lessons had finished. "Also, I would like it to be known that a ball shall be held in honor of my belated birthday. I never had a birthday party this year." I command with a gentle smile, trying not to be pushy, but knowing that I have not asked too much of my palace servants.
The setting changes from The Realm of Adacia to Corell
"A ball, eh?" he asked with a soft chuckle, "is that your wish, your grace? Then perhaps I shall inform the small council about it, and we can see what may be done." Of course a child would like to celebrate her day of birth, and of course a queen would like a ball. Yet, balls were dangerous as well as a social necessity. And then, they were expensive and troublesome to plan. He was glad she had only chosen a ball, though, and not a tournament. That would have been even more troublesome. "What kind of ball would the queen want, then?" he asked.
She trailed her fingers down a piece of polished wood which she had no idea where it was from. Elsebeth was certain that she'd never understand humans and all the strange fragile things they used to travel the sea. " You almost got captured?" Elsebeth exclaimed looking back at her with eyes wide. " Wow, and you're not hurt?"
She shook her head slightly, still a little bit in awe of Sylvie's escape. " No, I guess we'll just have to learn."
