"Let's go. It should be smooth flying from here on out."

a character in “Adventures in Galderia”, originally authored by Nightblazer, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Image
Name: Sylphine Mistral
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Profession: Travelling bird tamer

Description: Long, green hair (she insists it isn't dyed) and emerald green eyes. It's not quite apparent in the picture, but there are crests in her eyes shaped like four-armed cyclones which flash when she's using her abilities. Other than that, has a somewhat shapely, slender body and stands at 5' 3", but her muscle build is very poor.

Personality: Easy-going and calm. Daydreams frequently, and seems to have a very low attention span on lazy sunny afternoons. Forgets to address other people with proper formalities frequently, but other than that, is still rather polite and gentle. She is bisexual.

In battle, Sylphine keeps her cool and is much more focused. Always is mindful of her own weaknesses, but still tries to ensure the safety of her comrades first, even if she's the weakest one among them.

Also, expect her to get uncharacteristically defensive and flustered if you bring up the bunny doll in her coat's left pocket.

History: Hailing from a forest-covered valley shrouded in mist far to the west, Sylphine Mistral led a rather comfortable and peaceful life. Just like the other people in her village, who believe in living in harmony with the environment and protecting their land alongside nature, she trains with an animal familiar to become stronger everyday. Unfortunately, their progress towards unlocking the true power of her familiar isn't going very quickly. As such, Sylphine left her village to traverse the land, in order to strengthen herself and her partner, Pirika, and their bond between each other, so that they can become strong enough to reach that stage.

Inventory/Equipment: Her clothes consist of a very loose brown coat that goes past her waist, a black undershirt, a long white sleeveless shirt with blue straps, black shorts, and brown sandals that extend halfway up her calves. She also has several pieces of silver jewelry, all depicting the same crest that is reflected in her eyes. Her wrists are covered by dark brown sleeves, and there is a brown belt around her waist. Oh, and then there's that yellow bunny doll in her pocket...

Special Traits:
-Bird Familiar: As a tamer, Sylphine can communicate with animals like she could ordinary people. However, at the age of 10, all people from her home are given an animal as a partner, whom they will develop a mental and emotional link with, and share their power with.

Sylphine's partner is a small green-feathered bird named Pirika. Despite her small size, Pirika is very fast and agile, and Sylphine's wind magic can augment her speed even further, so she can assail targets from above and dodge nearly any counterattack. Her attacks involve slashing adversaries with blades of air generated from her wings or beak--wing attacks are weaker, but have longer range, while beak attacks are strictly close range.

With their mental link, Sylphine and Pirika coordinate their attacks to further weaken the opponent by aiming for blind spots whenever they can, and the fact that there are two of them helps them find such weak spots more easily. Between the two of them, their magic pool is much larger, so Sylphine can use her magic much more frequently with Pirika's help.

Also, Pirika has another form in which she becomes large enough for Sylphine to ride and has a dramatic power increase, but the transformation requires a catalyst which the duo currently lacks, as well as a strong bond between the two. 6 years apparently wasn't enough for that...

-Wind Magic: This is Sylphine's main forte. She is able to spontaneously attack with powerful gusts of wind or blasts of pressurized air, able to throw even boulders of 3/4 her weight off-course with the help of her staff and her familiar. She can also use her abilities to fly or increase her speed greatly.

Of course, she's always mindful of using too much energy, so don't expect her to start throwing hurricanes around casually. Usually, her "attacks" are used more to redirect and deflect the opponent's attacks so that they exhaust themselves by the time she goes in for her finishing move.

-Gale Staff: Sylphine's weapon of choice is an ornate white staff, which is just a bit taller than she is and has an emerald set in its head. Save for the crystal, the staff is actually made of chiseled wood from her birthplace, and normally would be very fragile as such compared to most staffs. However, the wood has been enchanted so that it is more durable than its material and weight would normally allow for, so she can use it to defend herself if an opponent gets too close--even steel does not cut through it. Its primary purpose, of course, is to augment her wind magic, and wielding it multiplies her power around 1.5 times.

The staff seems to appear and disappear whenever she wills it to, accompanied by swirling winds and fragments of green light. While she swings it around, you can hear wind whistling through the spiderweb-like design at the top.

-Zephyr Charms: The many articles of jewelry on Sylphine's body, as well as on Pirika's chest, are also enchanted to protect the wearers. These charms create a sheath of air half an inch off Sylphine's skin, and an eighth of an inch off Pirika. Their protection is not quite as strong as either wearer's magic, but they can lessen the damage from attacks directed towards them, physical or magical. The charms also can lessen the effects of magical curses on Sylphine and Pirika. Because Pirika is dramatically smaller than Sylphine (for the moment), she needs fewer charms to protect her.

So begins...

Adrian watched as the bird masked man buried the bodies and stabbed a stick on the ground over it and set it on fire. He doesn't know what kind of custom it is, but he simply watched it burn in the rain, without blinking an eye until it burn out. He turned to Sylphine as she commented to his naivety.

"No, I do hate him, but I only want him to repent for his sins. I don't want anyone dead, I have no right to wish for it."

...was he being serious? Even Adrian couldn't have not noticed the people from the caravan who had been killed before they arrived. "Do you realize how many people have performed the same 'sins' in this world?" Sylphine asked, her voice rising just a little. "The way you phrase it, the only one who has done so is the daemon. No, the lizardmen committed the same act...and, to boot, you saw that I committed it today as well. So why haven't you lashed out at me yet, even after you made your beliefs clear in Beystead?"

"No, I know there are killing on every part of the world, but who are we! to say who deserves to die and whose not! Every crime deserves redemption other than being executed, as they are all people who have emotions and people waiting for them!" He responded in an serious tone, to show how much he values life, but not necessarily mad.

Where was he going with this?! "We entered the battle to prevent the lizardmen from killing the dwarf," Sylphine reminded him. "Even though he didn't need it, we weren't trying to execute them for what they did; we were trying to prevent them from committing the same act again!"

"I entered the fight to stop both sides from killing each other!" He responded to her. "Must they be stopped by ending their lives?! Is that the only way you believe they can be stopped? Is-!" Their argument was cut short as Bliston appeared.

Bliston heard yelling behind him at some point. Turning to see what the fuss was this time he spotted the farm boy and the bird girl kneeling in the dirt over a freshly upturned mound of dirt. I took him a few seconds to realize what it was, before he noticed the lack of lizardfolk corpses. Further behind them he could see the quiet man with the shovel erecting a makeshift grave, causing Bliston to snort a bit. He pushed off from his resting place and walked up next to where the brats were having their argument, and called out "You do know that Lizardfolk eat their dead, right?" He sifted the weight of the great club on his shoulder, before finally deciding to just set it down for the time being. "Also," He said, this time regarding the people closer to him, "I'm not sure which of you did it but next time could you take more care to finish off your opponents? I found one of the buggers bleeding back among those wagons there and had to strangle him out myself." He scratched his chin a bit "It's quite rude to just leave someone half dead like that."

Sylphine was about to retort again, when the daemon abruptly entered the conversation. The mention of the lizardfolk eating each other caused her to have the unpleasant memory of the priestess' actions, but she forced the thought down hard and hoped it didn't show up on her face. "What did he...that lizardman, I mean...try to do?" she asked, wondering why the daemon killed him.

Bliston eye'd the mage girl. "He was lying on the ground holding his cut gut." He didn't really see why she would be asking that.

Realizing she had misunderstood (she interpreted the daemon's words and thought the lizardman had caused trouble, whereas the daemon meant that the lizardman had been suffering and he had killed him out of mercy), Sylphine coughed a bit awkwardly. "Ah," she said, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Well, um...I'm quite sure I finished off all the ones I took on, but I'll...be more careful next time all the same."

Adrian didn't know what to say. Bliston killed someone suffering with its wound. Was it right to end its life? was there no other way to end its suffering, but killing it? No, mercy and killing can never go together and no matter the motive, it's still murder, but was it right to keep it living only to suffer?

"Good." The daemon replied curtly, and walked away.

"Not your intent, huh?" Lana murmured, looking over toward the dwarf. After a few moments of silence, she sighed and looked the other way, shaking her head. "Whatever. It doesn't matter anymore." She listened in on what the others were saying, too. Resting one of her blades against her shoulder, she caught wind of the argument between the green haired girl and the boy, frowning visibly. He's gonna be one of those types, isn't he? she thought sourly.

"Hey, boy," she said aloud to Adrian. "The world doesn't revolve around you or what you think is right. You can think whatever you want, but the moment you try to push your self-righteous garbage onto other people is the moment people are gonna start tuning out, so I suggest you keep it to yourself." A gloved hand suddenly pushed down on her head and she nearly instinctively lashed out with her sword to slash it away - only a slight twitch was visible from that response and its restraint.

"Now, don't be like that," Gale grinned, tousling her hair. "He's still a kid, let him have his way. Maybe he's on to something, you know? It's not such a bad way to think."

"Don't touch me," Lana said quietly, narrowing her eyes and tightly gripping her blades. Still smiling, he put both of his arms up as a sign that he won't do it again.

"Alright, alright, no need to get mad," he replied. Just from touching her, his magic responded and reassured him that his guess was just about accurate. So, there really are Vasquerans left around here, he thought. I suppose I'm not about to kill her for her power, but it's interesting to know.

Asha slowly walked about, taking everything in and silently absorbing what she heard and saw. As a natural observer, she was incredibly perceptive of everything that happened around her - the words that were used and the tone they were used in, body language, facial expressions, everything was analyzed and stored in some capacity, not actively, but passively, her usual thought process being enough to break down all of the information into simpler, easier to understand elements.

Resting with her back against a tree and her sword sheathed at her side, she said just loudly enough for Iator to hear, "If she doesn't want to talk, you shouldn't force it. Not that I'll interfere if you decide to, I'm sure you have your own concerns, but perhaps you understand the stress of trying to keep a secret. Personally, I don't think she means any harm, but if there ever comes a time..." Her thumb slightly pushed the sword up until the base of the blade was barely visible. Her cold, calculating gaze was fixated on the two of them momentarily as though she were looking right through them. "...Well, I suppose I'll know." She turned her head away and lightly closed her eyes, adjusting the weapon back into its sheath. "But now is not that time. Again, it's up to you. I just thought I'd share my thoughts; it's not such an unfamiliar scenario, after all."

Adrian looked at Sylphine again. "Sylph, I know I might be naive and I don't intend to drop it. And just so you know, I'm not as mad as you are right now." He said one last comment to her with the same serious tone. He looked over to the little girl, and listened to her comment which is just as cold as Sylphine's was. "No, I'm not forcing my opinion on anybody. I do believe that no one deserves death, but I know that for some, it is necessary for them to give death, and it is out of necessity that we (the group) will kill a dragon." He replied back, unfazed by her cold comment. "And aren't you younger than me? Calling me boy just sounds strange." He said, relaxing his voice as he scratch his neck. Thinking he finally said what he wanted to say. Not feeling that much catious to the girl the was once on a death match with the dwarf.

Taethion

Taethion turned towards the Priestess and spoke, "It's quite alright." He didn't want to see her upset just because she couldn't perform healing spells. Even though that prospect seemed strange to him, but then she wandered off and spoke to Iator. Taethion didn't mind as he turned back to the Dwarf. Taethion then bowed back at the Dwarf with a slight chuckle. "It wasn't any problem, it was just my duty." He cheerfully spoke. It seemed both of them were healthy enough to travel. He decided to walk towards the heart of the group as he called out for his horse. After a whistle Herod came trotting up to Taethion as he mounted him. He could hear the intense argument as he rode up and stopped before he could come into contact with the mass grave. "Are you fellows alright?" "It sounds like you guys were having quite the argument." He spoke concerned. He noticed Gale dug up something but he wasn't quite sure what it was he was doing.

Randionalia

The Elven assassin rode up beside Taethion and spoke, "Yes they were arguing and at a most inconvenient time might I add!" "We haven't the time to waste on this matter, I'm sure it can wait until we find a suitable place to stop and leave the rain for the night." Randi spoke with a huff as she turned eastward, readying her horse to move down the road. "If all of you are quite finished messing around, it seems our injured are back on their feet and the burial completed, I see no more reason to waste anymore time in this place!" She spoke with a bit of annoyance in her voice. She has no idea how long that Dragon is gonna keep the Princess alive, they can't waste any more time if they can help it.

Taethion then nodded, they have a job to do still. They needed to get moving.

Day 1

Before Sylphine had a chance to respond, the little girl who had transformed earlier started up another argument with him. Sighing resignedly, Sylphine let herself float back into the air, in her now rather familiar reclining position, and put her hands behind the back of her head. Pirika had flown off during the argument, it seemed...Get back quickly, okay? she called mentally, and recieved an irritated affirmative reply in response.

When she looked back towards the party, however, she noticed the priestess was missing. Uh oh. But before she could deal with that...

Iator approached the girl on his pony. He nodded to her. "Sylphine, correct?"

Taken aback a bit by the unfamiliar voice, Sylphine twisted around and found the dwarf--no, not that one with the axe, the other one who had already been in the party--speaking to her. Wait, how did he know her name?! "Ah, yes, that's me," she confirmed, a bit awkwardly. "Do you have business with me?"

"Iator Legerdemain." He said, reaching for the customary handshake. "I like to make it a point to get to know everyone that I will be adventuring with." He smiled politely. "I did pronounce your name correctly, yes? I had only overheard it the one time."

Letting herself land, Sylphine walked over and accepted the handshake, not holding his hand very tightly. "You pronounced it correctly, no worries. This is kind of strange timing, though..."

"Is it?" He asked, concern apparent in his voice. "What's the problem?"

"Well..." Sylphine glanced at the aftermath of the battle. "I don't know how to put it, but it just feels weird going through introductions after we had to deal with that."

"Better late then never." He said. "We were off in such a hurry I barely introduced myself to half of the group."

Him too? "Being honest, I only introduced myself to one person before we left Beystead," Sylphine laughed softly. "Well...all the same, I look forward to working with you."

"Likewise." He said. He looked around for a second. "So, any particular ideas about the others? Some of them seem pretty odd to me, but I must seem pretty odd as well, being a gnome."

"Hm..." Figuring that she might accidentally offend someone if she just let her opinions fly, Sylphine raised a hand, and the air shifted around her and Iator. Now a vacuum isolated the space around them from the others, so no one could hear what either of them were saying.

"Oh?" Iator said, noticing the winds and the swirling floes of magic. "You cut off our voices from the others?"

"Yeah. Even if I tried to be as polite as possible, I don't know what they'd think once I start talking," Sylphine explained. "Well, let's see...who to begin with? I'm afraid I don't have much to say about that elf lady, the girl with the rune sword, or the shapeshifter...and, of course, we only just met that transforming girl and the dwarf, so I can't talk about them..."

Iator nodded. "That leaves just a couple then. Bliston, the boy...Adrian, I believe, Taethion, the priestess: Lara, the gravedigger: Pravus. And myself."

The mention of the priestess caused Sylphine's eyes to narrow, but she tried to act normal in her response all the same. "Well, Taethion...he's kind, that's all I can say. I'm surprised he put up with me at the feast we had, being honest..." She cringed when she remembered how embarrassing the whole thing was for her. "Ah, anyway. Bliston...is that the daemon? I...can't really get a good read on him yet. So far he hasn't done anything deserving of the bad reputation he seems to have, but he hasn't done anything 'good' either. Adrian...once again, he's kind enough, though his ideals seem flawed." She paused for a moment, hoping the gnome hadn't already lost interest.

On the contrary, Iator seemed to be listening to her with all the rapt attention of a young child watching a magic show. He was still amazed at how plainly humans always showed their emotions on their faces. Their expressions and body positions always spoke volumes that they wouldn't, or couldn't, express with words alone. He noticed when her eyes narrowed at the sound of the priestess but he listened intently as she gave her opinions on the others as well. He nodded, as if prompting her to continue.

Glancing around as if she was afraid that someone would still take offense even though they could not be heard, Sylphine started talking again. "That gravedigger is...kind of strange. I'm not really sure why he started preparing a grave while the rest of us were fighting...really, I'm not sure how to comment on it at all. But also..." Her voice seemed to fall to an ominous whisper here. "Something about the air that guy gives off is...just wrong. It's almost like he came from another world entirely...it's kind of scary, to be honest."

"I have felt similar around him. But I would not go so far as to dismiss him entirely to the realm of the odd and scary. His customs are not the same as ours. Perhaps he is simply following a command from a superior. I myself cannot get a read on him either. But that is probably because he does not seem able to speak Londean." He looked at her. "And the priestess?"

"She's just strange, through and through." In trying to avoid elaborating on that subject, Sylphine found her voice sounded the slightest bit robotic. That could...end badly. "A-anyway. This is the first time I've talked with you, so, I'm afraid I don't have much to say about you either...it seems you're rather easy to get along with, though."

Iator smiled. "Well I appreciate that, and I think you seem to be an agreeable sort as well." He wanted to press the matter further but reconcidered. "We should return to the group. It has been a pleasure speaking with you. We should talk again sometime."

"Same to you," Sylphine replied with a gentle smile, and the vacuum around them receded. Once that was over, she returned to floating in the air.

After the business with the Dwarf and the Girl had resolved, the party reassembled and headed eastward for Andril. At the end of the first day for the group, they stayed at a roadside inn named, The Weary-Eyed Traveler. The following day after a good night's rest, the group loaded up their wagon with the supplies they had stored in a shed near the stables. The Innkeeper was paid with the standard currency found in Londe by Randionalia. Another day had passed and while closer, they had yet to reach their destination. Instead they stopped for the night in a nearby hamlet. The following day they would arrive at the gates of Andril before midday, from where they stood they could see the scorch marks across the stone-bricked walls, and bits of debris littered about the grassy fields just beyond these walls. Some of the walls themselves had crumbled and broken over, leaving other entrances besides the gates themselves. Reconstructing Andril has been slow-going because of attacks from hostiles, particularly bandits who have been something of a problem in these parts. Yet, the bandits have only recently became bold enough to launch attacks on Andril, partially because the Dragon attack has greatly weakened their defenses, but mainly because of a rumor that gold is being stored underneath Fort Andril itself.

Two armored soldiers stood vigilant upon the gatehouse having seen your coming for a mile a way. The had their weapons out, bows trained on the group as one of them spoke, "Halt! Who goes there?!" He shouted from on high. The Elven assassin strode to the head of the group, "I am Randionalia Ashengrits! I am the Head of the King's Assassins!" She shouted in response. The two Gate guards spoke amongst themselves. "And what be the King's Head Assassin's business here in Andril!?" The guard asked. "I come on orders from the King to locate the Dragon, rescue the Princess, and slay the beast! We were told to come to Andril, it being the last known location the Dragon attacked! We seek clues and answers to where the beast may be!" She shouted. The Guard then replied, "And what of your traveling companions!?" He asked. "They are all recruited to partake in this quest by me! We only seek to carry out our mission, nothing more!" She spoke. The both muttered something to each other and then nodded. "You will be greeted by our commanding officer, but in the meantime please enter!" He spoke as the other solider ran off to fetch their commander. The remaining solider then raised the gates allowing the group to enter Andril.

Once inside the fortress town, one would noticed a great amount of burnt buildings, all of which were dilapidated and collapsed from the fire. Not all buildings were destroyed, but any Inn and Tavern have been forced to take in civilians whose homes were destroyed. Even one of the barracks had civilians living inside them. The whole town was a rather dreary and dismal scene, with peasants sporting long faces as they mourned over their loved ones and way of living that was taken by the Dragon. There were some children playing in the puddles from the recent rain as their smiling faces was about the only thing to lift the mood in this place. Most marketplaces where destroyed but some shops still remained, a General Goods shop remained open, and the Blacksmith remained in business as well. Otherwise Trade Shops, Scroll Shops, Grocer's Market all destroyed by the Dragon. The only place to actually purchase food is from the Butcher's, whose shop was only slightly damaged and not to the point where it had to be closed off. The Apothecary's Shop still stood, but nearly all of the medicines have been used to help heal the injured and the sick, leaving his selection to be quite sparse. Fort Andril itself still stands but one could see that damage has been done to the stone-bricked building. Scorch marks and fallen towers being the most apparent indicators of this fact. The inner wall that closes off the fort from the town itself, seemed to have been only slightly damaged, as compared to the outer walls. The fort is located on a hill top whereas the town seemed to be built around the foot of the hill extending some into the grassy plains that surround them. There are three gates that are located around the outer wall, the West Gate, the one we are entering through, there is a Gate to the South, and a Gate to the North. Further East behind Fort Andril there is a forest. There is another gate within the town that leads to the fort, it is facing west like the fortress itself. The other thing they would notice about Andril was that it was crawling with armored soldiers, bearing arms as if it were wartime.

As the party entered town the guard raised the gate, closing it behind them. They were soon greeted by the Commander in charge here. "Ah yes your the Company that seeks the Dragon correct?" He was a handsome man about in his thirties. He spoke with a smile despite the devastation that happened in his town. "Yes." Randi quickly answered. "Well I am glad to see someone brave enough to rescue the Princess." He spoke as he bowed to the company. "I am sorry, but there isn't much my town can offer you at the moment, but if there is anything you need please tell my men and we will try and procure any supplies you mention. I am sorry again if we cannot be of any more use to you. As for your issue with the Dragon, if you would please follow me to the keep, we will discuss it there." The Commander bowed again. "Oh and again you are welcomed to wander about the town, but please be mindful, we have had a rough time." He spoke again as he rode off for the keep. "For those that wish to follow me to the keep come now, otherwise I guess your free to go about the town." Randi spoke to the group as she followed the Commander.

Day 3

The city-fort of Andril was in a truly sorry state. With her hood pulled up once again, Sylphine gazed around at the aftermath of the dragon's attack, saddened by the scenery in front of her. I think even my home village is better off than this, she thought, and all they've got over there are tents and underground shelters.

Rubble and ash piled the streets, even though the attack had happened several days ago. While the emerald-haired girl could see plenty of people around her, Pirika flew higher up and noted that most of the streets across the city were devoid of people and piled with charred debris. Walls had crumbled and collapsed on either sides of those streets, and buildings across the town had caved in. Of course, it seems that even now, bandits were hiding among the wreckage...

Hearing what the party was going to do next, she couldn't help but feel glum. I'm probably going to fall asleep during all this, she thought. I'd rather be outside, doing something interesting.

You see? This is why you should train yourself to pay more attention, Pirika scoffed, flying above the rooftops. Wait-what the-?!

What is it? Sylphine asked, before an image appeared in her head of a man walking through the destroyed residential district, all on his own. He seemed to be rather far in...remembering the bandits from earlier, Sylphine knew it wouldn't end well for that man. It's probably not worth our time, but I think we should try to help him.

You don't say? Hopefully he went in for something worthwhile, though...

We'll find out soon enough. The girl whispered a quick "I'll catch up with you guys later" to Taethion, Adrian and Iator before slipping away and dashing down an alley, Pirika flying next to her shoulder. As soon as she had gone a block or two into the abandoned areas and knew no one would see her, Sylphine pulled her hood down and started flying through the destroyed city.

The Commander looked over his shoulder to see the blonde haired woman had asked a question about their training grounds. "Yes there is one past the inner gate, but I must warn you the Dragon attack has left it in disrepair, having scorched most of the field. Yet there are still some targets and training dummies that have survived. We are not in need of them so you may use what's left if you wish." The Commander answered her. "I hope you are not in need of equipment, much of it was ruined so whatever we have is needed for my men. Also the same condition apply to any sparring partners, I have all of my men out there on duty and cannot afford to spare even one of them." The Commander spoke as he turned his gaze to the Gatehouse. He waved his hand and the soldier's nodded as they opened the gates. Those that went with the Commander would see the Keep Grounds, and like he said a lot of the grass that made up this hill has been scorched into ash.

One of the barracks had been ruined, another in public use, and the one closest to the fort is used by the military. Where the training grounds is suppose to be is in disrepair like he said, much of the equipment ruined and gather into a trash pile. "Over there is the grounds, as I said it is a sorry sight, but we are delivering the scrap metal to the Smith to forge new weapons and equipment." The Commander spoke. "As for the rest of you Fort Andril is just ahead, we will enter through the front gates and we will store your horses in our stables." The men were already opening the gates as they spoke.

"Goodbye!" Taethion called out as Sylphine ran off, he wasn't quite sure where she was going but he supposed it didn't matter. Taethion knew how bad things were but this? It was disheartening to see all the damage wrought by the Dragon. The Children playing in the puddle barely gave him any smile. He felt bad for all the people whose lives and homes were destroyed, but this only further proves to him why this quest must succeed. If it's like this all across the Kingdom then the Dragon is a plague indeed. He followed the Commander hoping to hear any information about the Dragon, the sooner they can find the Dragon, the sooner they can end this senseless destruction.

Pravus

He traveled alongside the group as they made their way to their first destination. Pravus was silent the entire trip, not saying a word to anyone. If it weren't for Randionalia's threat to throw him in prison again he'd of just left by this point. The holy man had something that he wanted though. He wanted his knowledge of their funeral practices. His desire for this knowledge was stronger than his fear of the king's head assassin's threats against him. She was hardly any threat and he could easily leave in the dead of night as even she needs to sleep while he does not. Sure, he'd have to deal with the consequences but his entire unlife had been nothing but a consequence of his failure as a Grave Tender, a failure to the family. Any retribution that comes his way would not be unjust.

None the less he stayed with the group, traveling the land alongside the wagon. Eventually they approached Fort Andril, a fortress which definitely bore the scars of a dragon attack. The king's assassin yelled up to the guards and they were let inside. Now inside Pravus saw the scene of the dragon's toll on these people. Quite frankly, these people didn't seem to be doing half bad. Of course given his frame of reference being the war in which unspeakable atrocities were committed by every part of the military he served under and the plague which made this tragedy almost laughable in comparison to the carnage and misery which swept his land.

Looking at what the town had remaining he noted that their supplies were quite low. Given what he had seen he made the jump to the conclusion that they would probably have little to no armaments to spare as well. He didn't need to assume anything however as the commander basically told them everything they needed to know, inviting them into the keep where they would discuss their quest. There was not much else to this place but to move on so he followed the main body as they proceeded to the keep. The air mage split off from the group as they approached and the swordswoman wanted to train while the others went inside. Such matters were irrelevant to him, he disregarded the two for now as he proceeded alongside the group, not a single word to speak.

After everything was back in order and they were back on their way. Adrian was thinking about all the events that happened and especially the time he almost pissed Lana off."Hah... What was their problem with me? Is it that bad to care for the enemy? Hah... Almost everybody in the group seems to think of me as naive. Hah..." He thought with several sigh in between each sentence.

"Lana huh, it's a good name and all, but she seriously need to fix that personality of her. I think I also narrowly escaped fighting with her." He continued, but with a somehow sinister excited grin on his face. He immidiately covered his face after he realized what kind of face he was making. "W-Why did I just smiled like that?" He thought, somehow puzzled by the face he made, and just continued to follow the group.

He looked around the destroyed city that is surprisingly not yet burned to the ground. He looked at the people who received the damage and they don't look like they can stand off the ground yet. One child who was playing in the mud bumped on him and fall on his butt. Adrian smiled and grabbed his hand, pulling him back up. "Thank you mister!" The child say as he ran off. "I guess it's not all that hopeless here." Adrian thought.

Having particularly nothing to do and somehow ending up on a bad term with the others. He decided to talk to Sylphine and make up if she is still made at him after the little argument of moral. "Hey, Sylph! Can I-" He wasn't able to finish his sentence as she run off and he decided to run after her. He followed her to the residential district and wondered why she went there, but she started to fly so Adrian jumped up to the roof to follow her. "Sylph! Wait up!" He shout at her. The roof looks like I will crumble the moment he applied force in it so he can only jump from one roof once.

Day 3

The further and further away she got from the only populated area of the city, the higher and higher Sylphine flew, until she was just above the rooftops. At the moment, she was heading straight towards where they had last seen that man, since he wouldn't be able to get far on foot compared to her while flying. All the same, however, she had already instructed Pirika to fly ahead to see where he might have gone at this point.

Right now, Sylphine couldn't see any bandits beneath her, but she was going too fast to tell. Hopefully the sight of a flying girl with green hair didn't cause too much chaos...

"Sylph! Wait up!"

HUH?! Recognizing the voice, Sylphine turned her head backwards to see...oh my god. You...I don't even...what the HELL?! There was Adrian, leaping across the rooftops in her direction. The buildings were crumbling beneath him, but somehow he managed to make just powerful enough of a jump to get to the next building each time.

...that kid has got to be on drugs, Pirika commented, sounding notably shocked.

You're telling ME?! Sylphine fired back, unable to believe her eyes. Seriously, how was his timing and strength this good? He didn't look like he had received much training of any sort, and yet--oh wait, crap, his next jump was bringing him towards a hole in a roof. Quickly, Sylphine threw her hand forward and caught him on a wind, letting Adrian fly next to her.

"You have got to be one of the craziest people I've ever met, going around a place in shambles like this with those moves," she commented wryly. "Really though, what's the problem? Got too lonely without me?"

Adrian was leaping across the rooftops while keeping an eye on Sylphine. He was not paying attention to where he is jumping from, but he just knows that he is okay. Thought he actually plans to keep the roofs intact. Oh well. Since he was not paying attention where he goes. He didn't noticed that he jumped toward a hole of an already crumbled roof. "Oh Da-!" He said as he was about to fall through, even thought he knew that it won't hurt him much, but he just got surprised.

He felt himself stopping mid-air as Sylphine caught him with her wind. She commented on his reckless actions and Adrian just laugh it off. "I just felt it's okay, that's all." He replied. "And about our little argument. I apologize for that, about the part I was yelling at you and sound like I'm forcing my way of thinking to you." He apologize to her.

Day 3

Was he seriously THAT hung up about it? The girl put a hand to her face, letting out a very long sigh. "You seriously came all this way, running on roofs that crumbled right as you set foot on them, just to tell me that? Adrian Retter, you are insane."

Moving into her reclining-while-flying pose once again, she continued, "And besides, you can't really call something like that 'little.' Ideals are really important; you should know that better than anyone else. Other than that, however, I'm not angry anymore, so just forget about that argument...wait, on second thought, don't."

They were getting very close to the place where that man had been spotted earlier. Surely enough, Sylphine could see as they approached that he wasn't there. Pirika, where is he now?

It looks like we don't have much time to waste, Pirika responded. He's down two more blocks, and surrounded by bandits. There are 13 of them...a few have knives, and others are just wielding pieces of debris. Wait, one has a longsword, and two have axes...better watch out.

Acknowledged, Sylphine replied, before turning to Adrian once again. "And, also, I hate to break it to you, but this was probably the worst possible time you could have picked to talk to me." She didn't even have time to fully explain what was going on before they reached the street where the bandits stood, surrounding their victim.

He was pleading with them that he had nothing of value on him, but they kept making their threats anyway, not believing him, until eventually one bandit said, "Heh, I guess we can just take him to the forest where the others are if he really doesn't have anything. But for now, let's search-"

At this precise moment, Sylphine threw out her hand, and a burst of wind roared past some of the bandits, pushing them backwards a few feet. Looking up in surprise, they were even more confused when they saw a flying girl with green hair. They muttered among themselves, wondering what to do...until eventually, they made up their mind and charged at her.

While they had been arguing, Sylphine had already set up a barrier of hardened air particles so that they wouldn't be able to advance past it for some time. "So," she finished explaining to Adrian, "our overall goal is to save that man. Do you want to run in and grab him first, or should we take down the bandits now?" Just as she finished, she thrust her palm forward, and the barrier exploded, sending the bandits flying onto their backs.

"No, I'm not" Adrian replied to Sylphine's comment. He listened to her saying that it's a bad timing and about saving a man all of a sudden. He looked at her a little puzzled, but immediately realized that she was pointing at the man surrounded by bandits. "Hey, Sylph. Can you throw me there with your wind?" He kindly requested her.

Without asking questions, Sylphine summoned her staff and spun it around, and a strong wind current blew Adrian towards the area he had requested. The bandits were starting to recover from being toppled, but she blasted them with wind again to keep their attention off Adrian.

He was launched all the way to the center, where the man they have to rescue is. He landed beside him and quickly grabbed him, jumping up to the seemingly still sturdy building's roof. He placed him up there and Adrian showed a thumbs up toward Sylphine showing that the rescue is a success.

Sylphine was about to return the thumbs up, when she noticed out of the corner of her eye that the bandits were starting to climb up the building's wall. "Get going, quickly!" she shouted, and prepared another attack...but it was precisely at that point that the building collapsed, sending the bandits plummeting back down to ground among pieces of rock and wood.

Adrian felt the building collapsed below him and quickly grabbed the man again and jumped off using one of the huge slab of rock as a foothold and safely brought the shocked man to the ground. He tumbled on his back to a wall of a building where he is away from the bandits. Adrian quickly took a battle stance and prepared to defend the man.

The two bandits with axes charged Adrian at the same time, swinging their weapons at different angles. Meanwhile, the other bandits wondered just how they could take down Sylphine while she was in the air...before they apparently settled for throwing rocks and knives at her. It was actually kind of funny; none of their weapons required much effort for Sylphine to sweep away with gales.

Adrian can easily dodge the axes, but if he did, he fear that it might hit the civilian. Gladly, since they are wielding axes, the handle is much longer and Adrian simply grabbed both of the with his hands and crushed it with his grip. The axe heads fell to the ground. The bandits immediately throw what remains of their weapon and continued to charge at Adrian. He simply sighed and grabbed the back of their heads and smashed their heads against each other.

Deflecting all the projectiles was starting to get old, so Sylphine decided to go on the offensive. She raised her staff with both hands, and a cyclone spiraled from the emerald at its tip towards the bandits. The swirling wind threw them backwards and slashed into their stolen equipment, toppling most of them like bowling pins. After that, Pirika would attack any downed bandits with air blades fired from her wings to ensure they wouldn't keep attacking.

However, when she got to the bandit with the longsword, Sylphine found she was being greeted by an unnerving savage grin. A moment later, that bandit raised his sword and brought it down, and the cyclone suddenly ripped apart right in front of her. "Heh, that all you got?" the bandit laughed as Sylphine looked on in absolute disbelief.

"How did he..." Sylphine shook her head, reminded herself not to lose focus, and swung her staff again, and a blade of air shot towards the bandit, but once again, he cut the attack in half. "My attacks won't work on this guy?!"

Grinning, the bandit just strode forward towards her at a casual pace. "You gonna stop floating around and fight me like a man?" he taunted. "Cuz you're not gonna get anywhere by cowardly throwing wind at me like that." The next thing Sylphine knew, he was leaping into the air above her, bringing his sword down. Alarmed, she created an updraft to keep him in the air long enough for her to get away. This was...really, really bad, to say the least.

Adrian saw the ongoing battle between the bandit with longsword. "Oh no, I think they're a bad match." Adrian thought as the bandit simply sliced through all her wind attacks. "I got to do something, but I can't leave this man with the ther bandits. Thinking of a way. Adrian picked up a fist sized rock and threw it at him, flying toward his stomach at high speed, passing Sylphine and then turning his eyes back on the other bandits. Quite sure that It will hit.

One bandit with two daggers swiftly ran toward his blindspot by the opening he left after throwing the rock. Adrian turned his back toward him and leaped backward, pushing him against the wall of a building. Another bandit charged while Adrian was down on the ground and swung his sword at him. Adrian pushed himself up with his feet and stood using his hands and pushed the ground, kicking the bandit under his jaw. The others watched him warily. The one with the daggers ran back to the group while Adrian took down the one with sword.

"Is that all you guys got?" He taunts them.

The bandit with the longsword was giving Sylphine no ground. After forcing her to fly closer to the ground with that jump strike, he was attacking her without abandon. Even though Sylphine managed to dodge his sword strikes, she could tell that if even one hit, it'd be worse than getting run over by an angry boar...okay, maybe not that bad, but still.

Kicking off the ground, she tried to ascend again, but the bandit shot forward with a kick and landed a hit directly on her stomach, sending Sylphine crashing into a pile of rubble. "Hah! Weak and pathetic!" the bandit cackled. "A little scrawny brat like you could never stand up to me!"

"Can you say that again?" Sylphine retorted, standing up and trying to ignore how much pain she felt in her midriff. Her staff began to glow once again, and she raised it over her head.

Letting out a chuckle of cruel amusement, the bandit started running towards her...and was promptly hit in the side by a rock. "Guh!" he grunted, glancing backwards. "What th-"

Now was the time. Sylphine brought her staff down with a shout, and a high-pressure wind blasted forward, slamming the bandit and stunning him. While he was dazed, Pirika came bearing down, slashing with a blade of air. The bandit recovered quickly enough to destroy that air blade, but Sylphine was now right next to him, with her own blade of air, slashing his back from right shoulder to left hip. With a howl of pain, the bandit staggered, and glancing backwards with eyes full of rage, he swung his sword the other way. However, Sylphine managed to dodge by throwing herself to the side with wind...and at that moment, Pirika accelerated the blade so that it slammed down into the ground, burying itself there (she made sure Sylphine had enough time to avoid it, of course). The longsword was stuck, and the bandit could do nothing.

From both sides, Sylphine and Pirika slashed with blades of air, finishing the bandit off. As he crashed to the ground, Sylphine massaged her stomach and groaned, muttering something about how she wouldn't enjoy lunch later.

"You okay there, Sylph?" Adrian asked worriedly, but still facing the remaining bandits. "If they won't make a move then I will!" Adrian thought. He charged at the four remaining bandit and stopped at the center of them. He jumped off the ground, and rotate his body around them with his leg stretched out, kicking them all in that one jump. (Tatsumaki senpukyaku!)

Not really feeling like saying any words, Sylphine nodded. When Adrian performed that last jump kick...thing...she used her magic once again, increasing his speed so that the bandits had almost no time to react whatsoever before it was too late. And just like that, the battle was over.

Letting her staff disappear, Sylphine limped over to where the man was. "You're fine, right?" she asked breathlessly.

The man seemed started by everything he had seen, but managed to answer. "...uh, y-yes. I'm fine, thanks to you two. Er, you two are...very strong for your age, I can tell. Thank you for helping me...I don't know what would have happened to me if you hadn't shown up." Sylphine nodded and smiled, but something made her feel like she and Adrian could have done a lot better when it came to working as a team...oh well, what could she do about it.

The man bowed to them, before returning back to where all the people are, seeing that his house has already crumbled to the ground.

Day 3

The man told the two teenage dragon hunters-to-be that he was going back to his house to see if anything was left, as he hadn't been able to check for the past few days. Unfortunately, he found out that everything had been destroyed by the dragon, and left in low spirits--though he did make sure to thank them again.

But something was still bothering Sylphine...no, not her stomach, even though it still ached like hell. One of the bandits said something about taking the man to the forest "where the others are." What could that mean...? Perhaps they should have left one bandit alone and interrogated him...in any case, there wasn't much for them to do but return to the main street. There wasn't anything left for them in the residential district now.

As if on cue, she heard a groan as one of the bandits started to wake up...one of the axe wielders. This was a good opportunity. Sylphine went right up to the bandit, motioning for Adrian to follow her. "Hey, you!" she called, getting his attention. "What are you guys planning in the forest?"

The bandit looked up, immediately recognized them, and started to panic when he realized he was had neither a weapon nor backup. "W-what would I know?" he lied, backing up. "I don't know what the bosses have in the forest, I swear! I was just a, uh, hired hand from this city! New recruit, ya know?"

"If that's the case, then it'd be even stranger that you wouldn't know what's going on," Sylphine commented, advancing on him. "Quit trying to dodge the question. Tell us what you're doing out there."

Realizing he couldn't play dumb, the bandit changed his tune. "I ain't gonna say anything!" he shouted, sounding more and more desperate. "You can't make me talk!"

This is getting really annoying, Sylphine thought. Guess I have to break Adrian's ideals some more. Her hand flew forwards, and suddenly, the man was suspended in the air by wind currents. "I said," Sylphine repeated slowly, punctuating her sentence multiple times. "Tell us. What. You're doing. In. The Forest. Are we clear?"

"O-okay fine! I give! I'll tell you! Just...don't kill me, please!" the man shouted. He babbled out that the other bandits had taken hostage most of the people who evacuated from the city during the dragon's attack, and were demanding the gold underneath Andril as ransom. Furthermore, they would periodically kill off civilians as time went on until this ransom was paid.

Though Sylphine felt furious over the callous behavior she was being told about, she nodded calmly. "Thank you. You won't die." As soon as she finished saying this, she snapped her fingers, and a hardened air bullet slammed the man in the side of the head, knocking him unconscious. "...come to think of it, we're probably going to have to lug him back to authorities ourselves while he's unconscious," she muttered, scratching the back of her head. This would suck.

More troubling was the bandits' demands for the gold, however. How many people had been killed already? How many were left? "We'd best head back and get the others' opinions on this," Sylphine suggested, picking herself, Adrian, and the unconscious bandit with air currents. "Come on!" The winds picked up, carrying them to two blocks within the main street, where Sylphine put her hood back up and let them all land before she kept running.

Two men that had been in attendance for the relaying of the threats were briefly ordered to head out and find the others that had gone wandering around to inform them of this development. Asha was about to head for the training grounds when she was stopped by one of these men.

"You're with the dragon hunting group, yes?" he said, straightening his posture as he stopped, calling out to catch her attention. "You might be needed, we have reports of a hostage situation outside the walls. Bandits, most likely."

"I'll go," she responded quietly, turning back around. "I do prefer live practice targets."

The other one arrived along Sylphine and Adrian's route, giving them the same news.

Day 3

Walking back up the street with the unconscious bandit in tow, Sylphine and Adrian suddenly were confronted by a messenger wearing rather fancy-looking regalia. "Excuse me, you two," he called. "You're part of the dragon hunting group, right?"

"Ah, yes, that's us," Sylphine affirmed, a bit surprised. "What do you need from us?"

"Well, we have a bit of a situation outside the walls," the man explained, a rather urgent tone in his voice. "It's the bandits. They've taken hostages, apparently. And your group will most likely be called on to resolve it."

So they were getting involved after all...Sylphine nodded and thanked the messenger, then turned to Adrian. "We need to hurry," she commented, as if it wasn't blatantly obvious enough, before running up towards the keep. Of course, in a rather inconsiderate manner, she left Adrian to haul the bandit with them...

It didn't take long before Sylphine barged into the room where the others were. Some of them were discussing if they should assist with the hostages, while the masked man appeared to be spacing out somewhere to the side. "Hey!" the green haired girl called, raising a hand in greeting as she entered. "So you guys heard about the thing with the hostages too, yeah?"

A messenger suddenly came to and reported about the hostage situation. He looked back at the bandits and looked at Sylphine, repeating it trice. "Didn't we like caught a lead?" He asked as he pointed at the bandits lying on the ground. Before anything else, Sylphine hurried off leaving him with the bandit. "Ah..." Adrian paused a bit. He simply picked him up like a rag and threw him on his back.

He carried him back to the fort as the guards looked at him. "Excuse me, do you know where my companions are?" He asked one of them. The guard simply pointed at a room inside the fort without a word. "Ah, thank you." Adrian said as he walked to the room, still carrying the bandit. Most of the groups was waiting there. He saw Sylphine there and put down the bandit and walk to her. "Sylph, that's so mean, leaving me like that!" He said to her.

Taethion

Taethion nodded towards Iator, he was glad someone felt like something must be done. After all sending soldiers into the woods where the hostages are being held doesn't bode well in his mind. He wasn't sure about the Dwarf, Gale, The Gravedigger, or the Girl, but Bliston spoke up on this matter in direct opposition of Iator's vote.

"We we called upon to go hunt down a dragon. We weren't hired to go trumping through the woods looking for lost peasants, nor did anyone ask us for help. I don't know about you, but I prefer to be timely with my engagements. Besides," and at this he turned to Taethion "I don't suppose you heard exactly where this bandit camp even is?"

"Well we-" Taethion spoke trying to defend his point, but Bliston carried on and when he looked towards the Paladin he asked a very good question. Taethion sort of looked down as a frown formed on his face, "Well no, I didn't, what I did hear was that the released hostage was blindfolded when he was spotted. So, even if I went back to ask him, he wouldn't know anything." Taethion spoke saddened by this predicament. "That would also mean the soldiers won't know where to go either, and having them leave their charge for such an indeterminable amount of time seems like a bad move, especially considering the state of this town. Not to mention that I am worried that sending a large force of soldiers would be the worst way to handle this. What if the Bandits get scared and kill everybody? Maybe a smaller group of people, that aren't soldiers would at least throw them off, giving us a better opportunity to do something." Taethion argued without raising his voice.

Randionalia

The Elven assassin listened to the debate as to whether to intervene or not dragged on. She could see both points but felt a greater responsibility to the King and their quest. "Look, here Knight we haven't the time to waste on these matters. As much as I feel sorry for the people and their plight we have a quest to attended to. Bliston is correct, this isn't our concern, nor is it being made our concern. I do not know if you noticed, but the dire situation of our quest takes precedence, we do not exactly have an official deadline to keep! The Dragon could kill the Princess at any moment!" She spoke up.

Taethion

"If the Princess could be killed, even at this moment then what's the point of being in a hurry?" Taethion asked. That was tough to swallow but he is right in a way.

Randionalia

"Even though that is a possibility, I don't want her death to be on our hands! Even if the Dragon does kill her, but we were on our way, then at least we can say we didn't leave her fate to chance! We tried to intervene, but if we keep derailing our progress then we might as well place the same amount of blame on ourselves as with the Dragon." Randi spoke finishing her piece.

Taethion

Taethion didn't want to leave the fate of these civilians up in the air, but he didn't want to do the same to the Princess either. He wasn't quite sure what to say, they don't even know where the camp is and who knows how long they would spend finding it. Then Randi would be right and the Princess's death would be as much their fault as the Dragon's. Then at that moment Slyphine arrived. She must have gotten the message as well, but then Adrian entered after her and was carrying someone. It sounds like he knows what's going on as well, but Taethion noticed the body on his person. Curious, he asked the boy, "Who is that on your shoulder?" He said as he pointed to the body.

Adrian looked to Taethion and a smug formed on his face. "This person here, sir Taethion is our lead to this case." He said followed by a confident hmph. Moments later the bandit woke up and was surprised to find that he is surrounded. He crawled backward and Adrian stopped him by walking behind him. He turned around again and facing Adrian he fall back on the ground.

"Hahaha, don't worry, we just want to ask you more about this hostage taking." Adrian said as he placed his hands on the bandit's shoulder.
"I-I ain't saying anything."
"Come on, don't be like that, we just need you to tell us where your hideout is."
"Like hell I'd say that!"
“Men are born to sin…What does matter most, is not that we err, it is that we do benefit from our mistakes, that we are capable of sincere repentance, of genuine contrition.” He said, wanting him to repent from a wise word he heard somewhere.
"No. Repentance my ass."
“A man does not have to feel less than human to realize his sin; oppositely, he has to realize that he gets no special vindication for his sin.” He said another one.
"No!"
“Who with repentance is not satisfied, is not of heaven, nor earth.”
"No, Stop!"
“And here, shipmates, is true and faithful repentance; not clamorous for pardon, but grateful for punishment.”
"What shipmate, you moron! You just got that off a book! Even the other ones!"
“Sin is a power; wherever it is given room, it will grow in strength, and it will take you where you do not want to go.”
"No matter what you tell me I ain't telling a word."
"Hmmm... Well I'm all out of ideas guys." He said as he stood back up, knowing the bandit won't dare escape.
