PERSONALITY:
Cheery | Anxious | Wary | Passive | Stepford Smiler | Unbiased

Ryuu is a cheerfully bright guy who's energetic and friendly, if a bit awkward and talkative. He tends to be the life of the party at first, but a few minutes after making everyone feel welcome Ryuu is content to fade into the background. He likes to flit around people and acts like nothing short of a meteor strike can stop him from smiling, but is in fact somewhat paranoid and panics easily, though Ryuu often manages to keep his head in bad situations. Ryuu often apologizes even if it's not his fault, and is polite to a fault, often speaking formally to teachers and sometimes his friends. He cares for other people and often does things like offer advice or make them laugh, but despite that Ryuu is the type of guy who keeps his problems to himself and denies their existence when asked until he has no choice. Due to having high adaptability, a knack for improvisation and the ability to smile like nothing's wrong, Ryuu's able to come up with lies on the fly which supports his surprisingly realistic facades, making it hard to tell. However, if you're an observant person or knows him well enough you can tell when he's lying and when he's not, and he tends to drop hints accidentally-on-purpose.

Ryuu's friendly and bright demeanor is used to keep people at a certain distance and deflect any personal questions. It's not all an act since Ryuu really is optimistic and friendly, but it's exaggerated and kept on at all times in an attempt to keep people from prying into his private life. Ryuu finds it hard to trust people, never truly trusting even his friends with anything truly meaningful. He forgives easily, but doesn't forget, and even though he smiles and laughs and tries not to make people feel left out Ryuu is always wary and never lets his guard down completely, constantly analyzing his surroundings and people and running a commentary at the back of his mind. It also tells Ryuu when people are lying and rationalizes with him when he's anxious, so it's almost like a second personality designed to stabilize him. He is very aware that this might means he's insane, but is hoping that it's a gift from Athena instead.

Ryuu has a surprisingly responsible take on life. He believes in being punctual and doing everything by himself, and holds himself to a higher standard than others. Ryuu wants to be normal, and he believes that so long as he passes this standard he is. As a result, he's very hardworking, and rarely breaks the rules. Logical and practical, Ryuu also believes that knowledge is always a good thing, and is studious and attentive in class and always asking or reading up to learn new things. As a result, he gets A's in all his classes and has a ton of knowledge on just about everything, especially medicine. He also likes to please people, and will often follow his friends even if he has some misgivings. However, there are some things Ryuu just will not do, like forming biased judgements or stealing, and attempts to make him do so will cause him to lose his normally mellow temper or show some of his well hidden backbone. Ryuu is also fatalistic at times, although he combats this by thinking optimistic thoughts.

All in all, Ryuu is a social, smart, cheerfully awkward kid who panics easily and keeps everybody at a distance, but means well and cares a lot for the people he likes. And suffers from anxiety, a large need to please people and a somewhat mild guilt complex that grows large when he messes up, but that's neither here nor there.

LIKES:
ramen - it reminds him of comfort and good times. Plus, culture! And it's filling.
small places - it's easier to hide in small, cramped places, and if he was invisible that helped too.
meeting new people - people are interesting, and he always liked making new friends. Or acquaintances, that works too.
parkor, running, dancing - it's fun, time consuming and healthy. Besides, it improves his agility and flexibility, and he likes the stunts he can pull with thanks to his training. It's also a good bonding experience he can share with others, and is good for when he needs to dodge or run away.
being prepared - he likes to plan for everything. It's kind of his hobby.
reading - he likes to read anything and everything, especially school subjects and medicine. He likes sci-fi. He used to spend hours at the school library, reading until it was time to close before going home.

DISLIKES:
not eating - he doesn't like going without food, as he doesn't like the feeling of starvation.
being alone - hates being alone, even though he can deal with it. Even being around strangers is better.
holidays - he really, really doesn't want to go home. Fortunately, he can stay in school during most holidays and he gets sleepovers at Alex's place, so all is good.
crappy works of fiction - due to reading tons of books, he's got a lot of knowledge in those things. So when he comes across something that is badly worded or misspelled or has a plot hole the size of a elephant, or just bad plot in general, he criticizes it. However, he's also willing to admit the books good points, and is willing to go into lengthy discussions about it over food.
anything to do with alcohol - drunkards, beer, anything - he hates it with a passion of a thousand suns. He doesn't mind if his friends drink, although he'll remain wary and be snide, but the moment they try to force him to drink or do anything he thinks as harmful he'll lose his temper and hold a grudge until he gets payback.
people prying into his life - the past should stay as the past, and he doesn't want people to know. He finds it shameful, and is terrified of his dad's reaction.

FEARS:
his father - his dad is an abusive prick. Naturally Ryuu's terrified of him!
Expulsion - Aeonis Academy is his chance to restart this life, and a way to get away from his dad. He doesn't want to lose what is likely to be the only chance of him being able to get away from his dad, and a chance to get into university, as he knows that his dad won't pay for anything that isn't necessary.
betrayal - it's why he can't fully trust anyone, even though he doesn't like being alone. His fear of being betrayed, or even rejected, after he fully trusts them is overwhelming.

H A I R C O L O R:
A nice dark brown that turns lighter when the sun shines on it.

E Y E C O L O R:
Eyes - a lively dark brown.

B O D Y T Y P E:
Small and scrawny. He often looks smaller than he actually is, but is actually quite fit from hanging around with Alex and parkour. However, he's only as strong as the average person, maybe less, but he's extremely flexible from years of contorting himself to fit into a small space. He likes to wear layered clothes, like tshirt a and hoodies and jackets.

D I S T I N G U I S H I N G M A R K S:
Ryuu has different kinds of smiles, and the one he normally has on his face does nothing more than show generic cheerfulness. He also has a cheerful and bright aura, but those who have been around him for long or observant enough can sense anxiety behind the cheer and the wariness in his eyes. His body has a few faint scars scattered in different places, a few burn marks on his arms that look like they were made by an accident in cooking, and there is a large pinkish scar on his left hip that looks like someone had tried to knife him with a broken bottle.

FAMILY::
Raiden Morimoto (Father)
Raiden hates him for ruining his marriage and blames him for all the things that went wrong with his life, and as a result abuses Ryuu. He smiles and seems kind but strict when he's around people, but once they're alone his smile twists into something bitter and full of loathing, and he gets angry at the drop of a hat. Raiden has often threatened Ryuu with death if he told anyone about the abuse or anyone finds out on their own, and as a result Ryuu is terrified of anyone finding out about his past. However, he holds off from telling people about the abuse due to loyalty as well, as Raiden's the only family he's got for years.
Ultimately, it's very simple - Ryuu is terrified of him and wants to leave, but still cares for his father. Raiden, for his part, hates his son as it reminds him off all the things that have gone wrong in his life and wishes to spread misery on said fault out of spite and revenge, which is the only reason he gives an iota of care about Ryuu's life.
Mary Daces (Ex-StepMother)
he doesn't know her, but he found out about her from his dad. Ryuu went to ask if she could marry his dad, but she was already married to another man with family of her own. She took him in, but a few hours later Ryuu's dad came up at the doorstep and took him home. Needless to say, the week after that sucked balls.

RELATIONSHIP WITH GODLY PARENT:
Athena hadn't expected the situation to turn out that bad, to be honest. She couldn't take Ryuu in due to his humanness or call child services as Ryuu wouldn't admit anything even to her and she wasn't allowed to interfere in human affairs. There was also no definitive proof, and even if Athena left an anonymous tip Raiden would be able to cover up his tracks well enough that they wouldn't find anything suspicious. She was also unable to stick around as Raiden got angry and depressed at the sight of her, which led to him taking out his anger towards Ryuu or drinking, and so Athena had to limit herself to giving Ryuu food and aiding him when he was young. She stepped out of his life after teaching him how to take care of himself and wounds, and ultimately believes that she did what she could respecting Ryuu's wish to deal with things himself. She also remembers what life had been like back then, and believes that Ryuu had gotten off lightly compared to then.
Ryuu, on the other hand, is grateful to Athena for making his life less of a living hell, but doesn't understand why she didn't call child services or give him to another person. He doesn't know what he feels about her except the weird urge to get her approval, and as a result they're not really close at all, as she left him alone the moment he turned eight.
BIOGRAPHY:
Ryuu's dad, Raiden, was an immigrant and had a fling, then got married to the woman he loved afterwards. Raiden had a good relationship with his wife until Ryuu appeared on his doorstep one day. The wife thought that he had cheated on her, and despite Raiden's best tries they came into blows over it. Finally, they divorced, and thanks to the loss of the love of his life and problems with his job Ryuu's dad turned to drinking. He cursed Ryuu for it being his fault that everything went to hell, and to make a long story short became a physically and emotionally abusive drunk.

When he was sober, Raiden beat him up, threw things at Ryuu and liked to freak him out by saying something threatening or sudden punches after acting kind and nice. When he was drunk Raiden still seemed sober, but his smiling masks slips and gets angry more, being more likely swear angrily at Ryuu and beat him up where it can't be seen. Occasionally, when he felt that Ryuu had done something wrong he'd tie him up and beat him or lock him up in the dark, and as a result Ryuu often spent hours shivering in the dark and scared that he wouldn't be able to be free. Other times, his dad would withhold food too, and occasionally Ryuu would almost pass out from hunger. Occasionally, his dad would get a girlfriend, but they were often one night stands or left within a few months for one reason or another and were often somewhat abusive or alcoholics. When the girlfriends left, his dad would get more depressed and turn to the bottle more and be more triggerish in general, and Ryuu learnt to dread the months after a break up more than his usual life.

Fortunately, Athena came and took care of him when he was young, which was why he didn't die of starvation and was well kept. She taught Ryuu how to hide and how to take care of himself, and when Alex Verlin bumped into him during middle school life began to get better now that he had someone to hang out with, and even though Alex wasn't told anything they became good friends. He began to put his past behind him, which was helped when his dad began to drink less now that his job was better and started to ignore him, although the abuse still continued.

When Ryuu found out about the academy and godly parent and that it was a boarding school, Ryuu agreed to attend on three conditions - 1) he would be stuck on a scholarship that took care of his expenses, including food, 2) he'd be able to hane things on his own since he didn't want to trouble his dad, and 3) if need be, he'd be allowed to take a part time job to pay for his expenses. Conditions were accepted, and Ryuu entered the academy. He doesn't want anyone knowing about his past either, and plans to used his time in the academy to move on from his past.

FAVORITE POWER:
He likes the invisibility thing. It got him out of a lot of trouble, especially when his dad wasn't sober enough to remember if he was at home. He also likes the intelligence and ability to see liars, as it got him out of terrible situations quite a few times.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Contingency plans - he's always making plans for 'in case' situations. It's kind of his hobby.
Brains - he is seriously smart and studies a lot, getting all A's in his classes. He also has an impressively large amount of knowledge in other subjects due to spending most of his time in the library, ranging from trivial things like baseball to medicine and astrology.
Languages - Ryuu is fluent in English and Japanese.
Touches - he's a touchy feely kind of guy, but only if he's the one initiating it. He's alright if others initiate it so long as he knows it's coming and accepts it, but if he's taken by surprise he flinches or freezes up almost imperceptibly before going back to normal.

So begins...

"Done!" Jackie stretched her arms and grinned with satisfaction at the now-packed closet. She'd arrived early, but unpacking and repacking all of her stuff had taken quite a while. Luckily, she was done now. Man, she thought, running a hand through her hair, Done it twice now and it never gets easier. Ah well. Oh yeah! She turned to her laptop, grabbing a seat. Better reply to that message, it might be pretty important.

Clicking the message icon shaking merrily at her from the screen, she opened the message.

To: Elecfly24
Get your gears ready. This is gonna be big! They've actually tossed some real money into the prize. We're finally gonna be recognized as the pro athletes that we are. Don't you dare fall behind in your grindin'. Will see you this evening
Xoxo

Jackie grinned. Ha, as if, she thought, grabbing a seat. No way am I missing out on this. Fighting all of those players was going to be so damn fun, she could already feel herself getting excited about the raid.

To: Pinkwand69
Please, I couldn't be more ready than a general executing a war plan. Those guys are going down! They'll never be able to stand up to us, mwahahaha! >:D
Can't believe they're using real cash as the prize though, that's pretty awesome. See you this evening at the usual spot!

Having sent her message, Jackie cracked her knuckles and grinned. Alright, she thought decisively, looking over her character. I'm not hungry yet, I think I'll make a few small adjustments...

Alex Verlin (0040BF) and Ryuu Morimoto(404000), 1 September, orientation day

"WE'RE HERE!"

Alex blearily got off the bus as Ryuu bounded outside, a wide grin on his face as he took in the sight of the school. Taking a moment to make sure that all of their stuff was already with them instead of on the bus, Alex trudged over to his best friend's side at a much slower pace, wondering how Ryuu had so much energy when they had just taken a flight, a extremely long bus ride and another extremely long bus ride when he had only slept during the second bus trip. Alex had slept during the plane and third bus ride and he was still feeling a little jet lagged.

Maybe he actually took a nap when I wasn't looking, Alex thought, glancing over at Ryuu. He was still staring at the statue like all of his dreams had come true, which was pretty odd but whatever. Or maybe he's actually a robot that recharges by using solar batteries, which explains why he's so energetic right now...

This was bad - Alex had considered that theory seriously for a second there. Maybe the jet lag was getting to him.

Still, standing out here wasn't so bad, since it wasn't too hot - Alex didn't even need to remove the dark green windbreaker he was wearing. He closed his eyes and concentrated, forming an ice cube on his tongue. The cold was sharp but comforting, and Alex chewed on it patiently as he waited for Ryuu to stop staring. It was kind of freaking him out a bit, but since Ryuu had gone on about the school like a tv highschool girl on fashion he guessed it made sense. Besides, Ryuu would stop sooner or later and apologise for it like he always did whenever he talked for two hours straight on something he liked or bumped into somebody or... Well. Most things, really.

After long consideration, Alex had started to work on stopping Ryuu from apologising so much. It was a work in progress.

Sure enough, Ryuu snapped out of it five minutes later. "Sorry!" he apologised, giving Alex a sheepish smile, his eyes frantic. He placed his hands inside the pockets of the sleeveless grey hoodie he had on over the button up dark red shirt he was wearing. "Sorry, I got caught up with the building, I'm rea-"

"It's alright, you don't really need to apologise," Alex interrupted, giving Ryuu a pat on the shoulder. His touch, already gentle, was made softer by the brown felt gloves he was wearing, but Ryuu didn't relax. Alex didn't sigh, although he felt like it. Again, it was a work in progress - extremely slow progress. "Dude, really." He said, giving Ryuu a brief smile. "It's fine."

Ryuu looked doubtful. "Well. If you say so, but I'm still sorry." he said, before brightening up and pasting a smile on his face. He picked up his luggage, slinging his backpack on. "C'mon, let's go inside! I want to see what it's like, and we need to report before we're late."

We need to report to somewhere? That was news to Alex. Ah well, Ryuu would know the way. Grabbing his own luggage, Alex gave a nod to Ryuu, who had already taken a few steps towards the entrance. Falling into step beside him, the two friends entered the school.

Alex Verlin (0040BF) and Ryuu Morimoto(404000), 1 September, Orientation Day, Cafeteria

Alex had absolutely zero clue where to go. thankfully, Ryuu did, and the duo had met up with the other members of their batch. Alex would've much rather go to sleep instead of talk, but since there were no beds around Alex leant against the wall and crossed his arms, closing his eyes.

Ryuu smiled as he chatted with the others, feeling like he was at the top of the world. Oh man, this was awesome! Ryuu still couldn't believe it. A boarding school that allowed him to stay away from home, and unless he kicked up a fuss his father could do nothing about it since he had a scholarship and everything, and since Ryuu planned on being the ultimate normal student Raiden Morimoto would never have to come to the academy unless absolutely necessary. He was already making friends with a lot of people and had managed to familiarise himself with most of the others (even if it was only through sight), which was already pretty good in Ryuu's book.

He grinned happily. Yup, life was sweet, and would be more sweeter from here on out especially now that he and a few others were going to the cafeteria to eat breakfast. Thanks to travelling here Ryuu hadn't eaten breakfast yet, he was starv - no wait, extremely hungry. Starving felt different. More painful, for one thing. He made his way to the wall Alex was leaning against, bumping into a girl going in the opposite direction.

For a moment that was more like a blink, Ryuu winced, and his hand went to his right upper arm. He immediately covered it up with a sheepish smile and turned around to apologise, but the girl had already gone off, chatting with her friend.

Ow, Ryuu thought, rubbing his arm gently. The large bruise on it throbbed from the impact. He'd gotten it two days ago, along with a few others scattered on his abdomen here and there from when his father lost it at the dinner table. The bruises on his thigh and shoulder were almost healed, along with the smaller one almost below the newer bruise, but it still hurt.

Ryuu still had no clue what had set him off. Work maybe? Or something Ryuu did?

It was probably the latter. Ah well. Rearranging his face into a smile, Ryuu approached Alex and shook him lightly. "C'mon, sleepyhead," he grinned cheerfully as Alex's eyes blinked open, "Rise and shine! A few of us are gonna get breakfast, want to come with?"

---------------------------------------------------

Alex still felt sleepy, but less like falling asleep on his feet. Ryuu introduced him to Celgi, Killian and Glen, who were children of Hephasteus, Ares and Hermes respectively and had absolutely no clue where the cafeteria was. Alex didn't say much, but Ryuu more than made up for it by talking a mile a minute. They didn't seem to mind that Alex wasn't really a talker, which Alex found himself grateful for.

After finding the cafeteria and getting their breakfast, they went off to find a seat, jokingly mocking each other's choice of of breakfast. Alex was in the middle of debating with Killian on just exactly why Cookie Crunch were infinitely more superior than porridge when -

"Whoa!"

- All of them tripped. Glen and Killian, having superhuman reflexes thanks to their godly parents, caught themselves and quickly grabbed at the person closest to them to prevent them from falling. Celgi's breakfast fell to the floor, but since it was wrapped in plastic it didn't matter... leaving Alex just enough time to think Oh shit- before he landed on the cafeteria floor with a thud while his tray flew out of his hands.

People were yelling, and with a dawning feeling of horror in his stomach, Alex looked up and saw in what felt like slow motion his breakfast falling towards two students sitting at tables.

Still half outstretched on the cafeteria floor, Alex's hand shot out almost reflexively and turned the falling milk, orange juice and cereal into ice.

Within seconds, the white and orange liquid mixed with cereal turned into brittle ice that would shatter upon contact, but it was too late - gravity was doing its work, and Alex couldn't stop the net of ice from falling.

Jackie Pineman (BF4000), 1 September, Orientation Day, Dorm room - Cafeteria

Adjustments done, Jackie stretched her arms and decided to head to the cafeteria for breakfast. Pulling on a dark blue sports hoodie over a white shirt with a stylised black skull logo and black jeans, Jackie slipped on her trainers and headed out of the room with a bag slung around her shoulder, containing gym clothes, a few books and her wallet. Classes would be boring today since the first day of the school year was normally spent by everyone (even the teachers) reorienting themselves back to school life and patching up with friends, so Jackie planned to spend the day catching up with everyone in real life and relaxing in the gym or sparring.

After she ate, though. Jackie's stomach growled, and her steps quickened to a brisk trot as she made her way towards the cafeteria, fully focused on getting food to appease the dark growling pit that was her stomach. Jackie frowned and clutched the sling of her bag tighter. Geez, it felt like her stomach was trying to digest itself! maybe she should've eaten breakfast before making all those changes to Vladsmire...

Nah.

Jackie dismissed that thought almost as soon as she had thought it. Her character was even more awesome now! The tiny white haired midget could move faster, for one thing, and Jackie had managed to give him a pair of cybernetic upgrades that enhanced his healing factor and defence. She grinned to herself. No friggin' way she would lose against those-

The smell of food hit her like a punch to the stomach, and Jackie suddenly remembered that she was incredibly hungry and that thoughts relating to game characters could wait until after her stomach stopped threatening to commit suicide if food wasn't in it within the next five minutes. Running to the counter with the shortest queue, Jackie ordered a cheese omelette, some bacon, toast and a glass of apple juice. She crossed her arms impatiently as she waited for the food to arrive, almost cheering out loud as the delicious looking meal finally made it's way onto her tray to be whisked away to the nearest seat.

Balancing the tray on one hand and grabbing a piece of toast with the other, Jackie stuffed it into her mouth and chewed as she walked around the cafeteria to find a seat. Thanks to the first years and other members of the school coming in, the cafeteria had gotten more crowded and noisier, and now it was pretty hard to find an empty seat. Jackie gritted her teeth as a second year bumped into her and nearly caused her to spill the plate of food balanced in her hands, disappearing before Jackie could do anything. Dammit all, she really should've gone earlier-

Jackpot!

Jackie grinned gleefully as she spotted an empty chair. She charged straight for it, miraculously not spilling her food or juice, and slid into the seat with a sense of victory. Spying Tessa and some others on another table nearby, Jackie beamed and waved at her before consuming her breakfast with a ferocity only seen on lioness defending her cubs. Someone yelled behind her, but Jackie ignored it in favour of eating her food.
