Sonya's charm is a silver charm with a black stone in the middle, it hangs around her neck on a red satin ribbon. The charm is one that has been passed down in her family for generations. It reads on the back, "Time has no heart, but love is endless throughout time." Sonya was told that her grandmother was the last one to use this before she disappeared. Sonya has a feeling that she feel in love in a different time and choose to stay there, which is something that is a definite issue for Sonya. If this true, the consequences may reflect on Sonya, and her future with the Watchers.

She leaves the squabbling about leadership up to others, she just wants to continue doing her job. She wasn't even around when Artemis was murdered, and when she found out later on, she couldn't really decide how she felt. Others may think she is cold hearted because of this, but she doesn't let it bother her.

Sonya Lawson is a complex woman, she is most likely the most stubborn of the watchers group. She likes to be heard, but not necessarily seen. She might be appear obsessed with her job as a watcher, but mostly this is just her love of history shining through. She isn't annoying about it either, she is actually skilled in what she does. She is patient and careful when out in the field, but once she gets home, some often complain that she is slightly on the bitchy side. Sonya is said to look as if she is hiding behind her confidence, and what she hides the most is her heart. She doesn't believe in love, well maybe she does, but only time will tell. She is deep down a hopeless romantic, which is very dangerous, or at least she thinks it is.
She has a hard time being a good listener, and often might go without all the instructions. She has this bad habit of holding a grudge against her follow watchers especially when they mess her up. She always likes to give her opinions about how things are done, to the annoyance of some people. She is cynical but with good reason as the people in her life.
Sonya can not dwell on problems, she has to move on rather quickly or someone might think she is weak. She really does have a problem with playing the damsel in distress, but will do what needs to be done in the moment. She doesn't like to be one missions with first timers, she has the tendency to yell if someone gets nervous around her.

Sonya's family has a long history of being watchers, and she has grown up hearing stories about adventures in different places. Time travel was something that Sonya dreamed about everyday. She devoured everything she could get her hands on, especially about her own country. She personal always wanted to meet Elizabeth the 1...but knows that even if it happened, she really couldn't do anything to alter the time lines. She would pretend though, often times making it so people thought that she was a bit strange. Her own mother was never a watcher, having decided that she rather start a family instead. Her father...well lets just say she never really understood what he did, there was a bad rumor that maybe her father was from a different group.
She was 15 the day that her grandmother came for a special visit, Sarah was a renowned Watcher from the last generation of Watchers, she handed Sonya the charm that would enable her to time travel, with the strict instructions that she wasn't able to use it until she turned 18, she would be able to start her training as a watcher. It was the day of her eighteenth birthday that her grandmother disappeared. Her parents went to go pick her up and she just wasn't home. Yet the strangest thing was that it was like she just up in left in a spur of the moment. Her lights were on, there was a just warmed up tea kettle on the stove. She even had a copy of Pride and Prejudice open to the scene where Darcy confesses his feelings for Elizabeth. Sonya was devastated, thinking the worst and that someone kidnapped the old lady. Yet it was the book that threw her for a loop, Sonya loved that scene, it had always given her goosebumps when she was younger.
She never told her parents about the conversation that she had with her grandmother weeks before, about how lonely the woman was, it had been 5 years since Sonya's grandfather died, and Sarah was starting to become depressed. It was this reason and the book that made Sonya think that Sarah decided that she wanted a second chance with someone else. Yet when and where were a mysterious, Sonya looked through everything to figure out where Sarah went. It was because of these events that Sonya has closed off her heart, and forbids herself to feel anything for anyone. She also finds it really hard to believe that a time-traveler...of any group can hide themselves so well that no one notices that they weren't there before.
