Your Role-player Name :: Rae
Your View On Role-playing :: I started role playing on the Neopets website when I was in my eighth grade year. My first ever was a Harry Potter Next Generation Role Play and to this day it remains my favorite. On the NeoBoards a group of us came together and dissatisfied with the way Neopets was run created a forum of our own able to incorporate what we wished into the story. The forum lasted for about a year before it died out as members slowly became busy with their own lives and gradually forgot about the website. Three of us from the forum tried several times to jump start the role play and even creating new ones but none lasted for as long as that forum had. Shortly afterwards I took a detour from role playing for a while. I have jumped back in every now and then but I haven't been happy with any of the role plays I was a member of until around two years ago when I stumbled upon an Alice In Wonderland Next Generation Role Play. That one lasted for about a month and it was so joyous, truly a privilege to be a part of. However that one died out too, and that was when I discovered that I could not do short term role plays. For me, the development of a story, of a character, and the friendships formed while participating in a role play are the best part of it. Sure having the chance to show off my writing skills is excellent as well but I cannot truly enjoy a role play without feeling a sense of dedication from the group I am working with. If you have ever been a part of a role play like that you will understand what I am talking about, nothing compares to really having the chance to get to know your fellow writers and develop your character to a point where you don't even recognize them from when you started. That is why I wrote the guidelines and such the way I did. I believe dedication, time and effort are all essential to a wonderful role playing experience and I am still on the lookout for role play that really sets my blood on fire once again. I hope that this one will be one of those role plays for me.
Your Idea of Character Development :: Character Development is the best part of a role play. Its almost like raising a child, you have to work with others and learn how to interact on some of the most basic levels all over again. Your imagination really gets a workout as you try to think of a way to react to the situation that is unlike your own. I think research is essential for a well rounded character. Yes, much of them come straight out of your head but if your character is a professional opera singer and you don't know a thing about singing, in order to make that character feel real you have to research. Its like a fun learning tool for things you didn't know before you started. I think that its crucial for characters to grow and evolve with the story that is being formed. Since a role play is basically writing a book/story with several other people you have to practice your flexibility for situations because you could imagine the scenario one way but with input from others you may have to tweak your original idea to fit with what someone else wrote. Its quite invigorating for me, to log in and have an idea of what I want my character to do next and then have to think through and sometimes completely change it based off of the other role players posts. I could go on and on about character development for hours but I feel like I am beginning to ramble, so onto the next section!
Your Estimate on Time Commitment :: I plan to log on everyday and check in on this role play. Realistically I will probably be logged in for most of the day because I have little to no life at this point in time so I have basically a never ending amount of time to put into this role play. I understand that others have a life outside of role playing and that is truly wonderful and I am happy for them I just hope if they choose to be a part of this role play that they will give it a due amount of respect and at least log in once a day to make sure we all know they are still interested in the role play. That being said I think it is as equally important to form a sort of bond with your fellow role players as it is to post as your characters so I hope everyone is able to get to know each other in the Out of Character section, I plan to lurk through that board most of the day and hope to see many conversations ensue.
Nick Name :: Jenna
Age :: 11
Face Claim :: Hilary Duff
House :: Slytherin
Position :: Student
Bloodline :: Mixed
Height :: 4â11â
Weight :: 107
Eyes :: Blue
Hair :: Blonde
Physical Description :: Jenna is average for her age, not especially beautiful and almost awkward in appearance. She has shoulder length blonde hair and bright blue eyes, just like her mothers. Her height and weight are average; she has little muscle tone as she is so young although she is a bit on the thin side. Her physic is almost gangly. She wears the average style; skinny jeans, converse, plain t-shirts and hoodies. Very minimal make-up, her parents donât approve of it, but she gets away with lip-gloss whenever possible. Her eyes are the shape of almonds and bright blue in color, like the blue sky on a clear day, her face is round enough to be considered healthy and thin enough to be considered fair. Her skin is slightly tanned or stark white depending on the time of year and her blonde hair often has natural sun bleached highlights through it although she has always wanted to dye it brunette.
Identifying Factors :: Jenna has her ears pierced but that is all. She wants many more and when she is older plans on getting a tattoo, but until she is out of her parentâs house she must obey their strict rules. She has a small scar on her left knee, hardly noticeable unless she is wearing shorts and her skin is very tan, that she received from trying to skateboard a year earlier.
Quirks :: Jennaâs quirk is that she has a natural affinity for nature and swears she can hear the wind whisper to her. Of course it is most likely in her head, but she has always thought there were fairies dancing in the wind, singing to her.
Personality :: Jenna is a spunky, happy go lucky girl, always looking for a bit of adventure. She is personable and makes friends easily but has a proud streak that rivals most of her other qualities. She never admits to being wrong and never backs out of a fight. She has been known to worm her way in and out of sticky situations with small white lies that never hurt anybody. She has big dreams and ambitions that were made that much larger with the discovery that she was a witch, and not just any witch but a descendent of a pureblood wizard from England. Of course she does not pertain the same pure blood as that ancestor, although sheâd be damned if she told anyone that. Her pride at having come from a âpureâ ancestor has left her with an air of confidence that some find off putting but once they get past that outer shell, which is really nothing more than a load of hot air built up to protect her from critics, they may meet their very best friend in life.
Fun Facts :: Jenna loves the colors green and sliver, her ancestry can be traced back to the Malfoy family, the first bit of magic she ever did was to turn her cat into a pillow and back.
Likes :: Reading, cats, fantasy, family and cake
Dislikes :: Bullies, spiders, the color pink, clowns and mushrooms
Family :: Jenna lives with her mother and father, both having the ability for magic, but neither ever utilizing their talents. She also has a younger brother named Caleb whom she is extremely close to and has also shown signs of magical ability despite being four years of age. She has no living grandparents or cousins that she knows of, however her father was adopted so there is always the chance of having a cousin somewhere out in the world.
History :: Jenna lived a happy fairly normal childhood, she went to school with the rest of the children her age but always felt different, like no matter how hard she tried she could never quite fit in, and she wanted to fit in. Jenna would see all the popular girls always smiling and wished for that same life herself, thinking if she could just get to become their friends she would have it set in life. She was, of course, wrong. By the second grade, when she was eight years of age, she had become one with the popular crowd and found herself to be completely miserable. The girls were nothing but bullies, and although she would use a little blackmailing once in a while, Jenna detested bullies. Therefore, once third grade started she had cut ties with the âpopularâ kids and started her own group of friends. Soon they took over at the school being known for their kindness and ability to get things done.
Thatâs how it always seemed to be with Jenna, she had the natural ability to lead, and she used it to her advantage whenever possible. Art seemed to be her best subject in school, having the ability to turn something into another through the different mediums always came naturally to her which is why she believes she will be able to excel in transfiguration. The summer before she tuned eleven was when she did her first bit of magic, unknowingly and in a rare fit of temper she turned her cat into a throw pillow and back. The event scared her half to death and it took hours of her parents calming her down and revealing their own similar situations before she was able to grasp the scenario. Ever since then she has been trying to figure out what was real and what was myth, borrowing many volumes from the library and mostly failing.
Sample Post :: Character intro for The Way Of Water.
The wind blew silently through her hair which was, for once, loose around her the shoulders of the eldest fire princesses. Kyoko Asano, eldest daughter of the Fire Lord Asano and tasked through the years with perfecting her combat training, stood at the head of the great war ship headed toward The Great Nation. The sun was just rising over the horizon and she could see the island in the distance, the marble from the palace glinting in the first rays of sun. A sigh raked her body as she turned away from the otherwise glorious sight in front of her and looked instead at the deck of the great ship. Reduced to trading, the ancient relic was the only war ship in the fire nation still within use. It went from place to place carrying passengers and cargo within its cold steel interior. Now it was taking her to The Great Nation, to meet with her sister and the Avatar. What was her purpose in going there? Surly the Avatar didn't need a trainer in hand to hand combat; he was master of all four elements. Kyo suspected that her parents wanted her there to watch over her sister and her temper, which was far more likely. Lien, Kyo's younger sister, had one mean temper and one short fuse, much like Kyo herself. They were a pair the two of them, had been since childhood. Lien had been tasked with the charge of training the Avatar in the ways of fire bending and Kyo was very proud of her sister, she was an excellent fire bender. A shadow passed over the young girls eyes at the thought of her own bending skills which were mediocre at best; she envied her sister that one, the ability to bend fire to her will, to let out her aggression and anger in a burst of flame. Kyoko could only slash, cut, maim and bruise to let out her own aggression and as she didn't like to shed the blood of another it was usually her own blood and sweat through intense training that she found any release.
There was a couple of hours yet before the boat would reach The Great Nation, Kyo could feel the despair and anger rising in her gut at the memories of the past and cursed herself for it. Her long dark hair billowed as the wind began to pick up and, knowing it would not do, the fire princess gathered it back into a sleek ponytail on the top of her head. She shed the heavy coat she had been wearing to ward off the morning chill and stood on the mostly empty deck breathing deeply in and out. Taking a stance Kyo began her morning workout, letting all the hurt, anger and fear of what lie ahead flow out of her with each slice through the air her knives made, with every kick and punch her body threw. It was exhilarating to say the least, and the princess only wished she had another to spar against who could match her skills.
It seemed like no time at all before the great ship was pulling into one of the docks and Kyoko was transported back to what felt like an ancient time. It was so strange to be on the island surrounded by "the old way" of life as opposed to her heavily bustling and beloved fire nation. She grabbed her jacket from the ground where it had landed earlier and taking a deep breath made her way off of the ship where she was greeted by a servant of The Great Nation. He took her name and other information and asked, in a way that servants do, if there was anything else she would require. Kyo responded that a hot bath would be nice, as well as an agenda for the week and the servant said he would get on the agenda right away and to please follow him to her "quarters". She scoffed at the use of his formal language and with a roll of her eyes thought this may be a much more enjoyable waste of her time than she originally led herself to believe.
They made their way through the forest and into The Great Nation without further delay and Kyo wondered at the beauty of the forest, palace, and island in general. Her room was magnificently large with her own washroom and large closet, a waste of space in her opinion but pretty none-the-less. The decor was that of her homeland and it did wonders for her soul to feel surrounded by that which she knew. She left the door to her room open so that the servants could bring her luggage and training equipment in and made her way into her private washroom, closed and locked the door, and proceeded to take a hot, and much needed, shower. When she emerged from the room her sleeping area was filled with the boxes and luggage that she had brought with her and she smiled at the agenda placed on top of the desk. She gave it a quick once over and grimaced, first thing in the morning was the Avatars induction to the council and she was required to be in the meeting hall. At least she would be able to see her sister. The sun was setting outside, the day had passed much quicker than she had thought it would and munching on the dinner that was left in her chambers Kyo flopped onto the soft silky bed. "I could get use to this" she thought and fell asleep in almost no time at all.
Morning came all too soon and Kyo rose, before the sun and other inhabitants of the palace, to get in an hoursâ worth of training before the official ceremonies took place. In no time at all she was finished with her workout, showered, dressed in her court attire, and ready to head to The Great Hall. The court attire was stiff and uncomfortable, tight around her neck and arms, entirely too warm and made up in the colors of the different nations. A horrid combination to wear together she thought to herself and clenched her teeth as she walked to the center of the palace. Her sister was already seated in one of the two seats reserved for them and Kyo made her way over a smile on her face. She gave her sister a warm hug and sat next to her, conversing about all the things they had missed since they last saw each other and happily laughing. She heard the banging of the door of The Great Hall sound and turned her head toward the source, there stood the Avatar, her expression lost all trace of a smile and her eyes stared at him intently, a feeling of anticipation running through her body. "This should be interesting," She said under her breath as the entire hall slowly silenced, all eyes turning on the Avatar.
