Introduction

Background Information and Overview

“When there were still books, did you ever read any of them?” A little girl asked her companion as they huddled under a blanket in the frigid cold of winter in what had once been the country of Canada. The young man cuddled up closer against her as a wintry gust of wind whisked through the brush and blanket under which they had found shelter.

“Yes, I read books… somehow I crossed in front of the abandoned libraries a step ahead of the armies.” He halfway chuckled and halfway shivered from the cold, the little girl was not really able to tell why he had started to laugh, though. How was that funny? “One of the books I read,” He added, “was a book by George Orwell. It was called 1984 and was about a dystopian society in which people were blinded and controlled by their countries.” He looked away from her after stating that, not wanting to say more, but her eyes looked so desperate for information, even if fictitious, that he sighed and continued. “There really isn’t much similarity between 1984 and here, though, other than our nations are slowly swallowing each other up, attempting to achieve world domination. I sometimes wonder if it will ever end…” He noticed the girl had fallen asleep, so he took a deep breath and closed his own eyes, “maybe in my lifetime.” He whispered as he finally drifted off to sleep for the final time in the year 2071.

The next morning, the cold had claimed many lives including the companions who only hoped for a better life, one which would not become like that in George Orwell’s novel. The nation’s army would eventually travel through the area and strip the frozen bodies of any clothing or objects which would be useful for either the army itself or their people. However, the armies of any nation were only defending their people; and, they played on a low and dirty level, but far less low than those of the rogue populations popping up everywhere. This level of life is what all people on Earth allowed themselves to fall to.

Only two years later, the wars between the nations finally ended. However, not before they had merged or fallen under control of three different nations: Syrinia, Zerexa, Pteranon. With less hostility being promised to each other, the three nations decided to rename their planet in recognition of the treaties. So, the mighty Earth became the powerful Alaganda. However, this term, powerful, did not mix with the power these nations had over each other and even their own people which was practically nothing. The only reason they signed treaties was due to the fact that none of them had more than a thousand men and women in their armies. Besides that, when the leaders looked around, there was nothing left to fight for. All manufacturing: Stopped. All power: Shut down except for the very central cities necessary for each nation’s processes. Only about 1,500 people were lucky enough to live in these “electrics.” People from these cities, Lecs, looked and acted different than people in most other places, being they were wealthier and far more educated than most people had been capable of during the twenty long years of endless war.

Rogue populations became popular about five years into the war as they promised security and life, things which the nations refused to promise. However, some of the rogue populations allowed themselves to be just as corrupt as the nations themselves, but most truly attempted to keep their promises, avoiding the slave trades as best as they could. These rogue populations were as few as five people and as many as 1,000 and scattered across the world, depending only on their own skills and abilities to survive. Outside of the electrics, towns and villages are exactly like those rogue populations with the only difference being they are expected to pay a tax for considering themselves part of the three nations. People could pay in any form of paper or coin money as well as animals and even people, as slaves, were accepted for the tax.

The year 2073 began with a treaty to the nations of a demolished planet filled with darkness and depression leering over the surviving people. The small-group rogues traveled to seek solace as they could in towns and villages of the different nations, never stopping for too long for fear of losing what little they have to the army. The towns and villages were only a level above them in social status and priority, raising what animals and crops they could for themselves and as payment to their nations in exchange for a small promise of more advanced security. However, even though they would help the traveling rogues, they understood the rogues were their competition because the small populations were on the fast track to slavery from the middle of the war onwards. Although normally the traveling rogues could depend on a town to house them for a night or two, some towns were known for turning rogues in as slaves. This tactic became especially true and overly used by the nations’ towns when the spring came, as it was the most favorable time of year for women slaves.

Immediately following the smallest organizations were the rogue cities. Three to four could be found in each nation, so not many, but they somehow had at least some advanced equipment such as guns. Although not of the highest quality, rogue weaponry was advanced enough to keep the armies from attacking their cities. One of the most famous of these cities, at least in Syrinia, was New York. Holding onto the past, the rogues never changed the name, and, besides that, people around the world would be able to find it if the name was kept the same.

The top social class happened to be the electrics which were mostly explained earlier. There really is not much else to say about them besides they are the leaders of the three nations and better known as Lecs. They are hated by all and feared by most. The little power they have is also fading, though, so soon… they will be like everyone else: living in a powerless world.

Nations

Syrinia- Essentially, the Americas with its central government and electric towns surrounding where the United States of America used to have its government based: Washington D.C., renamed DC for want of a shorter name. Syrinia was more laid back than Zexera, but more strict and focused on world domination than Pteranon. It also had the most loss of culture and feeling of connection during the war, meaning it also has the most rogues of the nations. New York City demonstrates the number of rogues by housing the largest population of rogues with over 1,000 people. The total Syrinian population had about 20,000 people with most of the population residing in the central area. Small towns and villages were spread across the territory with the only larger cities being in what used to be the United States of America.

Pteranon- Unable to persuade the Syrinian nation to form an alliance to defeat the rogues within Australia, the Pteranons went home to their African and European homes. Although they may have suffered a shock from the loss of culture, they have the most spread out power availability. Instead of all the power being in one city, Pteranon managed to keep power up in at least one or two homes in every city and town across its territory. Their capital city was London, renamed to be Lenixa for no known reason. Some of the rogues in Pteranon believe it to have something to do with a woman named Lenix who is said to have fled to a rogue city in Syrinia. Even with the power grid to support war, Pteranon had the least determination to ever return to war, happy with their territory gains as it was.

Zexera- Asia with its capital being Beijing without changing the name. Having the most available electricity, Lecs in Zexera were most determined to keep the war going until they had total domination. However, the threats of having both the Syrinians and Pteranons turn against them with an alliance forced them to sign the treaties. Furthermore, Zexera would be the first to go back to war and so, pushes every woman they can find into slavery to make children for the nation. Little food is available in Zexera, and so they are forced to trade with the rogues in Australia, practically allowing them to have their own civilization without interruptions. Very few rogues are actually found within the regions of Zexera due to their stringent policy against the loss of culture within the rogue communities.

Places
Within the three nations themselves there were many different places which were either abandoned, but important and of significance, during the war, of importance to the nation it was in, or of importance to the rogues.

Syrinia

SanFran- Located in what was once the state of California along the coast and an important rogue city with about 600 occupants roaming the streets and the homes which used to house over 800,000 people.

LA- Not far from SanFran and is one of the larger cities within the Syrinian nation with about 2,000 residents.

KC- A city in the center of what used to be the United States of America, and also an integral part of the Syrinian nation’s food production due to it being in what had once been known as the Great Plains. The population celebrated its baby boom with the 200th birth from the 2070s. The many women within the city protect it from too much taxation as long as they are able to keep producing babies to raise the total population of Syrinia.

DC- Powered capital with about 1,500 residents. All of the officials and government reside within this city. It also holds all of the advanced weaponry of Syrinia.

New York City (NYC)- Rogue city of approximately 1,000 rogues. More advanced than any other rogue city in at least Syrinia, likely also the other nations as well, but it is hard to know for sure.

Pteranon

Lenixa- Located in what was once London, England; Lenixa has a large resident population of roughly 2,000 people. As such, it acts similarly to that of LA in Syrinia. However, Lenixa is also the capital of Pteranon, but only about 300 officials and government-necessary workers live here. The other 1,200 live throughout the territory helping the locals that they can, most of them still have powered homes, though.

Lux- 300 rogues live within this city’s walls, which were once a part of a large city in France, surviving as they can. However, they are constantly being fought against by citizens from Lenixa, even though they try to push them away or hide within the city. They are not well known for having many advanced weapons, but have rogue connections in Zexera. However, the 300 rogues don’t allow anyone else to know what sort of weapons they could be getting or what their connection in Zexera is exactly. The 300 have a whole city to hide in and they do their very best to spread out within the city and to keep any information hidden within their people. They don’t even allow anyone else to join, but there have been some traveling rogues to say the people of Lux will even suicide to keep their connection and information secret.

Saliby- Located in the tip of the African continent with a population of about 600. Not many people bother to go to most of Africa due to the desert and fact that there just is not that much to see. Not like there is much traveling anyways, but somehow people were able to survive and gather here during the war. However, taxes are never collected here due to the distance from any shipyard, so it is mostly left alone. Only being capable of depending on each other, the folks of Saliby tend to ignore their status of nationality, so all three nations and rogues may be found within its walls. Furthermore, these people must set aside all personal views and thoughts on the war and nationalities in order to survive, unlike some places which allow their occupants to focus more heavily on relationships and wants and desires rather than straight needs.

Zexera

Toko- A desolate city, placed in what had once been Japan, with a tight knit and densely populated centre. Its people, relatively large in number for a devastated city such as this, having reverted back to traditional ways and methods, kept alive by word of mouth through families and large groups. The fact that most official records were lost along with the city itself falling makes proving your lineage and family ties all the more difficult, however it is with luck that most families hold onto a symbol or item that only they could possess, although one does run the risk that such a person in possession of a symbol is a simple thief or murderer. Each family forms a close-knit and protective group comprised of only its relative members and adjoining families or clans, surviving on their own land and lineage rights. In total the population of the newly named Toko (A play on words of the fact that a sign near the governmental centre has lost the Y in its sign) is around 7,000 strong within the city and throughout the surrounding land.

Moocow- A cold and desolate place, the city itself is mostly deserted and simply used by those without refuge, most of the land’s inhabitants are spread out and many families and survivors live solitary lives, un-swayed by politics or the world’s wars and not a member of any rogue nation. Although the populace is rather large they are far too spread out to form any kind of proper resistance against the larger cities. Most of its supposed citizens are self-reliant or form smaller groups. Those few who manage to maintain farmland and defend it from their neighbours and scavengers eventually default to hosts of the rare larger groups, who then cohesively work together to restore the land and expand their miniature township. In total, the population is estimated to be 1'000 strong within the city, with the rest of the population (estimated 6,000) living in the vast surrounding area, whether they remain divided or together is irrelevant as their low resource count and harsh seasons make them unlikely targets for any form of official attack.

Beijing- A militaristic and strict city, focused on military gain, strict social and health policies, and expansion of the city itself. Although the borders are home to slums and those unfortunate enough to be cast from the city and its inner lights, the city itself has begun work on restoring itself after the war, with around 6,000 people within its safety and most belonging to the military of high rank and their families. Outside of the city are various military bases, and occupied townships and various farms and mines laden with slavery and those forced into servitude by their growing hunger. Those within the townships, slums, and working for resources number at 3,000 persons in total. Within Beijing, people are either part of the military or part of the problem and are treated as such. Beijing itself, outside of the inner city, is strict on all manners be it social, political, health, transport or law. The inner city itself holds 2,000 people and is surrounded by a large metal dividing fence, containing the lights, electricity, and lost wonders of the modern world to its high ranking and leading members, the inner city, despite being the beginnings of Beijing’s elitist behavior, is far more relaxed on its laws and attitude towards social matters and the like, as those inside are treated as if they have the power of near royalty, thus being able to discard and bend the laws at will.

Aevum- A rogue nation, not much is known about Aevum other than it's a strangely split “nation,” with part of it residing in the lower half of Japan and the other half residing on the edge of the Asia opposite it. One of the stronger rogue populations, Aevum is a safe haven for those within Asia who wish to go against the main continental rule or whom simply wish for a place to stay with a collective group that does not belong to any nation. Those who dislike the rigidity of Beijing, the solitude and survivalist manner Moocow, or the traditional and exclusive families of Toko reside here along with those who fight against oppression and war. From here, missions are launched across the three collective nations and resources are stolen or gathered to eventually make the split nation self-sufficient and able to care for its own people whilst fuelling the war on oppression. The leader of the nation has not been seen once, and, despite the nation’s actions and its people’s will to achieve this goal, it is unknown whether the collective Rogue Nation of Aevum true goal is that which it expresses. The population is a collective 5,000, but within the actual city of Aevum is only 3,000, still far more than the normal rogue city population.

Social Classes

Slaves- Regarded as the lowest level of being human. They have virtually no rights and are under complete ownership of their master. Even so, they act as a valuable payment for anything from trade to tax payment. Besides acting as payment, owners can force slaves to do any manual labor they do not wish to do as well as become a servant, and, basically, carry out any wishes their masters want carried out.

Sex Slaves- Originally unnecessary for the survival of the different nations as well as for the human race in general, sex slaves became a way of insuring women would be having sex and producing children. Although normally women at least have the chance to volunteer themselves as slaves, some, more violent, cities and rogue cities tend to ignore their thoughts entirely to take what they feel to be the best match for the buyer or possible buyers. In places such as these, or when women from small villages are taken by force and moved to their owner's home, sex slaves have few rights and are unlikely to ever wear a wedding gown as the man in question most likely already has a wife who wants more children of her own. These sex slaves are poorly treated with only a promise of a home and a bed to sleep in. However, the more protective and caring cities and rogue cities buy and sell women as sex slaves in a more refined manner, being more picky on who would get what woman and on how the women would be treated. Some of these women would even become formally married to their owner, maybe even fall in love with them. Simply to be clear, not all women are sex slaves and they are in no way viewed as inferior, but since they are incapable of lifting as heavy of objects, they became more useful to continue increasing the population.

Traveling Rogues- As viewed by the populous, they are only just barely above that of the slaves. Even so, they possess all freedoms and risks that come with being a rogue. They are free to run in their small groups of companions as long as they keep away from nation-owned cities or violent towns which would see them killed. However, even the most violent and aggressive rogue cities typically leave the traveling rogues alone. After all, the traveling rogues are not dependent on the cities in any way, although most tend to avoid them altogether. Furthermore, traveling rogues make it habit to avoid trouble or conflict as much as they can. They may only stay a night or two in a village in order to keep from wearing out their welcome.

Villagers- The average villager lives in small towns or villages of only a few people to maybe twenty or thirty, much like the traveling rogues in that respect. However, rather than depend on foraging for food, they were mostly unaffected by the war, making them capable of continuing to farm almost as they always had. The only difference being that now they must work without any sort of electric power. Luckily, they were able to adjust for the most part.
Rogues- These are the rogues living in cities. They are far more powerful than the traveling rogues due to the simple fact that they have determined a set location for themselves and done everything they can to protect themselves from danger.

Folks- Folks-men and women belong to the cities that are owned by the nations. They typically are spineless and depend far too much on the nation to keep them alive. They’re bad tendency of looking down on villagers and turning any rogues or traveling rogues in that they can makes them disliked by nearly everyone in the world. There are only a few city exceptions to this overall, general rule of thought, such as Saliby.

Lecs- As described previously, they are the people who live in electric-run cities or homes. They are typically quite wealthy and greedy with every wish to abolish rogues and other nations besides their own. They also happen to have the power to do some of this because they are most often the leaders and government officials of the three nations. However, although they are still government officials, the Lecs of Pteranon typically are for more caring of their people and tend to avoid conflict with rogues as much as they can.

ANY OTHER INFORMATION:

Brief Note: This post-apocalypse RPG does not include any sort of science-fiction or fantasy element, besides the occasional more advanced technology. Furthermore, this RPG has a lot of different places besides even the ones mentioned because we're talking about a planet here. There are unlimited characters, so things may get hectic, please make sure you know where your characters are at all times. If it begins to get too hectic and people request it, then I can certainly add at least the three nations. As a side note, adult content is allowed within this RPG as restricted by the site rules, but please try to keep it to a minimum as much as possible even so.

Secondary Brief Note: This RPG is currently being restarted. ONLY Syrinia is open for RPing and if you wish to join (or rejoin if you already have characters and wish to restart with us again) please talk with Dura or Lac. Thanks! :) Hopefully it goes better this time around.

Toggle Rules

1: All site rules apply. See LINK for any information on any of the rules. The rules on adult content also apply to this RPG.
2: No powergaming or God-modding (No having your character do things they can’t do, auto-hitting without permission, being generally over the top.)
3: No metagaming (Using information you learnt Out of Character or information your character doesn't know In Character, this includes straight up using that information, finding cheap or ridiculous ways around it, or creating a character who can easily justify almost all means of learning information. This includes simple things such as knowing someone’s name or safe-haven.)
4: Play nice with other RPers, contact them if you’re working together in an area, do not make assumptions about their actions and please don't create arguments or Drama OOC, if you have a problem PM duramon or IM Lacare or duramon from the chat bar if online.
5: (Insert generic have fun rule here). In the vein of that, feel free to PM or IM duramon and Lacare (we'll pass it on to each other too, of course) if you have any ideas or suggestions/things you want to do, we'll see what we can do and work on it with you if you wish. If it makes for good RP and if it makes it more fun for you and your fellow RPers, give it some thought and we'll try our best to make it happen (If it's plausible of course :3).

Friendly Reminder: Syrinia is the only section open currently. All posts are to be made in the CITY in which the event is taking place (or the nearest corresponding city if the event is taking place in a random cornfield, village, or otherwise). The Nations' sections are only being used in order to post events which may affect the whole nation. Please contact myself, Lacare, or duramon if you have any further questions! Thank you and have fun! :)

Alleria had said nothing further to the men who had forced her to stay bound to the horse, and only watched them as a man approached with his own disgraced look on his face. He's of an older generation... She thought to herself as she studied his face before he reached them and called the soldiers out for what they had done. However, their faces showed they either couldn't care to be bothered or, maybe, they felt above him. Pausing in her thoughts and tilting her head slightly to the side to continue observing them, she noted this dull, near lifeless look on their faces. They're tired... The sudden realization which had suddenly hit her came from their irritableness as well as the looks they gave to the man. Their faces looked worn and exhausted, rather much like a leaf may look from the previous fall.

Straightening her head and body again, she caught herself curiously contemplating the situation at hand. It wasn't like there was much else for her to do. However, as her new companions and the lead soldier exited her shack, she tilted her head once again before leaning slightly against the steed's neck. How can he act as if this is nothing? Or is it nothing? It's not as if this should have a direct impact on his day-to-day life in any way if he so chose... Alleria pulled in a deep breath, but found herself releasing it equally as quickly, unsure of how the air could taste so bitter now within her mind when it had been so sweet only just a little while ago.

Furthermore, when the traveling man flung himself atop the same horse as she was on, she could not help but to utter a tiny, "Thank you." to him as he promised to protect her. Such an action, she knew, would only bring him danger, though, but she felt as if he would not listen to her even if she made logical points. "Why would you do this for me?" She gently questioned in a barely audible whisper, one which she was certain he may not have even heard as he continued after the momentary pause. However, she was glad she had at least been able to thank him because his following words shocked her and made her want to be away from him immediately, to the point where she was tempted to call him out for being a rogue.

Once this discovery of his true being was placed before her, she found herself frozen and in pure terror. She wanted to scream out, but the men, even the leader at this point, would likely not listen to her and would blame her reaction as an excuse to be freed. If only they weren't so tired. She thought to herself as tears began streaming down her face of their own accord. She couldn't stop them. They came to the brim of her eyes, lighted there for but a moment, then, at first, plopped down to the horse's hair and the ropes which held her, finally turning into a steady stream of salty water along her cheeks which she could in no way stop. At this point, she realized, she could not scream even if she wished to. Terror had taken over her whole body.

Within her heart and mind, though, she was screaming more than ever before. She wanted to thrash free of the bonds which held her tightly and kill him however she could. She wanted him to understand how horrible of a person he was. You're evil! You're evil! You're evil! You should burn in the hell which you have created! Her mind continued screaming endlessly while she remained speechless aloud. She now couldn't decide who her captor was: her own soldiers or the murdering rogue? At first, it had been quite apparent, but now... she questioned its apparency due to the new information which he had provided her. You shouldn't be here. Did you want to kill me? Why were you in my shack? How is getting involved with me going to help you? Just leave me alone! Her words couldn't be heard and they certainly didn't help her any, but they continued flooding through her mind much how daisies will take over a whole field with their little, white flowers. As such was not the case, her mind was not sunny, but much more a dark, dismal, blackened, stormy, cloudy place.

Most recent OOC posts in Alaganda

Re: Alaganda

Yeah, I kinda see both of your points. My best suggestion is, for right now, travel near KC or, if you want rogues, then either make traveling rogues around KC or join NYC as rogues. Remember too, rogues and villagers have a tendency to travel from place to place more and can always end up somewhere else if they start out in KC. I am actually planning on this happening with Alleria :) Thanks so much for being interested and looking to join!

Re: Alaganda

I like the idea of this sandbox world you have, but as long as we don't have many characters, it might be a better idea to set up one group at a time in a specific area. That way, we can have a sort of methodical chaos instead of just hoping for the best.

I'll have a character in later today or tomorrow.

Re: Alaganda

The idea is for it to be somewhat sandbox and I'm glad you're both interested, however I'd rather people spread out a bit more haha, everyone seems to be heading for KC. My character shall be roaming the world and so there are opportunities there, if people spread out more then when other people join they'll go to those areas too and so on and so forth. As I said Braylen will be going around and interacting and if you two pick an area together it'll help spread out new people and we can use Aevum and other rogue groups to sort of connect everyone, them and the governments/lecs etc.

Re: Alaganda

I sense much potential. I'm in.
Redred33mer, I know I've just arrived, but one of the character's descriptions tell that she is traveling towards Kansas City. Perhaps an unexpected crossing of paths and high tension is in order?

Re: Alaganda

Hey, I saw the RPers wanted thread and was kinda interested in what was here. Now, before I go making characters, does anyone have ideas as to where they want to start? I think it'd defeat the purpose of RPing if we were all just on our own.
