Alas, Babylon: A New Beginning

Alas, Babylon: A New Beginning

0 INK

16 years after the incidents that occurred at Babylon, a new group of "gifted" students with powers have arrived. What events will unfold this year?

5,268 readers have visited Alas, Babylon: A New Beginning since SithFaced created it.

Introduction

Alas, Babylon: A New Beginning

In the year 1932, William Henry Babylon started the Babylon School for Exceptional Youth. It was geared towards children who did not fit in with the "norm" of everyday society. In other words, the "creatures"; the kids who weren't "human" in the eyes of the world.

W.H. Babylon was one of those children growing up. He had strength that struck fear in the hearts of those around him. So, at the age of 29, he left his home country of England for the United States, in Newport, Rhode Island. He was from a family with a great deal of money, so he purchased a home for himself, which he intended upon turning into a school. His goal was to create a place where other people like him could learn how to control and master their own powers.

Many students of all races, talents, and powers attend Babylon. They all range from 13 years of age, to 18 years of age. They attend classes that would be found in any normal high school; Math, English, Foreign Language, History, and Science, as well as Creative Arts classes. They also attend classes specific to their power. In these classes, they learn how to control their powers and use them for good.

As this RP begins, you have been accepted into Babylon. Every student lives on campus, so pack what you need, and some of what you want to bring. Remember, this will be your home until you graduate, so bring whatever will make you feel comfortable.

Ms. Kyra Chartreuse :: English teacher. A close friend of both Nick and Alyssum. Former student. Godmother of Victoria and Mason. Played By: sxxy_pup666
Mr. Henry Klien :: History teacher. He's an old man, who claims to be "somewhere between 50 and death". He cares about his students, and loves history, though he can be rude to students who don't like his class. He eaches like any college professor would; yes, that means that he gives lectures. He also nicknames his students, according to their names and something relatable in history. NPC
Mrs. Alice Dupree :: Music teacher. A very kind woman, in about her early 40's. She loves every aspect of music, and tries her hardest to teach everyone the wonders of it. NPC
Mr. William Stall :: Music Theory teacher. Stall is a grumpy man, though he tries to be funny (and fails at it). He loves good students, and hates slackers. He usually finds one person in the class to pick on throughout the year. All students just refer to him as "Stall" NPC
Miss Lynne Maher :: Art teacher. A young art teacher, she loves abstract art a bit better than realistic art. She's always looking on th bright side of things, and never fails to make class as fun as possible. NPC
Mrs. Anne LaMore :: Literature teacher. A nice lady in her late 60's, Mrs LaMore tries her hardest to show her students the beauty of the world around them, through books. NPC
Mr. Ted James :: Health teacher. A stick in the mud. He doesn't joke around, he speaks in monotone, and he's not a happy camper. Is there really anything more to say? NPC
Mr. Vincent Pamalar :: Science teacher. He is one of those teachers who triest to act younger than he really is. He's into the latest fads, and tries however he can to be "cool". His favorite saying is "okie dokie", which can get really annoying really fast. He's a genuinely nice teacher though, and most of his students end up liking him, after they get past his whole "I don't ever wanna grow up" stage... NPC
Miss Colleen Slane :: Math teacher. Miss Slane is a nice woman, but she's not really that amazing at the subject she teachers. She stutters quite a bit, and usually ends up erasing something she's done in a problem because she's done it wrong. But her students love her, because she never fails to teach them multiple ways to learn something. NPC
Miss Marie Zerffass :: European Language teacher. Miss Zerffass is one of those teachers that everyone loves, even if they've never had her as a teacher. She loves to tell stories about her family, and about all the places she's been (especially stories about Germany. Boy, does she love Germany). NPC
Mr. Colin Mark :: Asian Language teacher. One of those teachers who likes to keep to himself outside of class, while being loud and fun during class. NPC
Ms. Zanna Thomas :: Dead Language teacher. A very "plane Jane" type of teacher. She likes classical... everything, and isn't a fan of loud students. NPC
Mr. Kurt Arzel :: African/Spanish Variation Language teacher. A teacher who laughs a lot. He loves telling jokes during class, and he loves wearing outrageous bowties. NPC
Mr. Thane Zed :: Personal Power Class teacher. Mr. Zed is a loner of sorts. But he teachers his children how to control their powers very effectively, and he's always around to help whenever a problem arises. He takes his job very seriously, for he believes that what he teaches the students will effect them in the long run most of all. NPC
Ms. Camilla Lee :: Anatomy teacher. She is one of those teachers that really gets into what she teaches. She's never been afraid to show students just how to dissect things - she thinks its the coolest thing in the world - and she's never really been one to sensor things when it comes to anatomy in general. NPC
Mr. Karl Franks :: Botany teacher. Franks likes plants. A lot. NPC
Mr. Kingsly Banks :: Philosophy teacher. Banks loves in-depth conversations and debates. They make up the majority of his class. NPC
Miss Lora Renkest :: Element Lore teacher. She loves anything that has to do with elements, and she loves teaching this class, especially when one of the students taking the class has control over elements, which doesn't happen often. NPC
Mr. Harold Fenstermacher :: Weapon Training teacher. Mr. Fenstermacher served in a few wars, and saw his fair share of bloodshed on the battle field. He's an aged man, both physically and mentally, and it shows in everything he does. But he's used what he's learned from the military to teach others about proper weapons techniques, instead of hiding in a shell about it all like many war veterans have. NPC
Miss Elaine Hoffman :: Game Theory teacher. Miss Hoffman loves anything that has to do with games, and programming. She would rather do something hands-on with gaming and programming than just teaching or learning about it; and while it would still technically be learning about it, she believes that any hands on experiance is more fun than one where you sit and take notes. As such, her class is very hands-on-oriented. NPC
Ms. Hannah Kohler :: Mythology teacher. Ms Kohler loves anything to do with Mythology; she loves reading about it, and watching TV programs about it. And she loves to go to museums when they have sections on mythology. Its a class she teaches as well; something she is very serious about. But she tries her hardest to make mythology as interesting to others as she finds it. NPC
Mr. Ian Tezzle :: Crafting teacher. Mr. Tezzle loves making complex things out of anything he can find. And he loves challenging his students with complex ideas for new things they can all make. NPC
Mr. Jeffery English :: Astronomy teacher. Mr. English always jokes around that he should be teaching English, rather than astronomy, but he loves teaching what he teaches just the same. He's very big into note taking, and as such, usually has an overhead projector "note session" every class period. He's not afraid of teaching 'hands on' classes though, and does such at least once a week. Overall, he's a really nice guy, and very fun to learn from. NPC

Character Skeleton

Please use this skeleton on all characters submitted. I will not accept characters unless they are in this format, BUT you MAY add to the skeleton as you see fit; YOU MAY NOT TAKE AWAY FROM IT THOUGH.
Also, it is REQUIRED that each character has a 100x100 image, and it is REQUIRED that you use the following format in the "Character Synopsis Field"
What they are // Age // What room they're in.
So, a good example of that would be: Telekenetic // 17 // Mrs. vanderbilt's Room.
Its simply for me to keep things organized.

Babylon School Info
*All blue highlighted words are clickable. Please click for more information/pictures*

Newport, Rhode Islands infamous house "The Breakers" is the location of the Babylon School for Exceptional Youth.

The Breakers was built as the Newport summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt II, a member of the wealthy United States Vanderbilt family. Designed by renowned architect Richard Morris Hunt and with interior decoration by Jules Allard and Sons and Ogden Codman, Jr., the 70-room mansion boasts approximately 65,000 sq ft. of living space. The home was constructed between 1893 and 1895 at a cost of more than $7 million (approximately $150 million in today's dollars adjusted for inflation). It is located on Ochre Point Avenue, alongside many other great mansions. The Ochre Point Avenue entrance is marked by sculpted iron gates and 30-foot high walkway gates are part of a 12-foot-high limestone and iron fence that borders the property on all but the ocean side. Part of a 13-acre estate on the cliffs of Newport, it sits in a commanding position that faces east overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

GARDENS:
The pea-gravel driveway is lined with maturing pin oaks and red maples. The formally landscaped terrace is surrounded by Japanese yew, Chinese juniper, and dwarf hemlock. The trees of The Breakers' grounds act as screens that increase the sense of distance between The Breakers and its Newport neighbors. Among the more unusual imported trees are two examples of the Blue Atlas Cedar, a native of North Africa. Clipped hedges of Japanese yew and Pfitzer juniper line the tree shaded foot paths that meander about the grounds. Informal plantings of arbor vitae, taxus, Chinese juniper, and dwarf hemlock provide attractive foregrounds for the walls that enclose the formally landscaped terrace. The grounds also contain several varieties of other rare trees, particularly copper and weeping beeches. These were hand-selected by James Bowditch, a forester based in the Boston area. Bowditch’s original pattern for the south parterre garden was determined from old photographs and laid out in pink and white alyssum and blue ageratum. The wide borders paralleling the wrought iron fence are planted with rhododendron, laurel, dogwoods, and many other flowering shrubs that effectively screen the grounds from street traffic.

Outside, there is also a beautiful track. All gym classes are held here.

Thank you very much for taking interest in this RP. I hope to see your character application! :)

RULES AND REGULATIONS:
The Handbook for Babylon School, Page 3.
  • All students should be aware that it is their responsibility to treat the building with respect. It is a very important piece of American history, and it is imperative that all students treat it as such. If any student would like to know more about the building they are currently residing in, there are many books located in the schools library on that subject.
  • Fellow classmates are also a very important piece of this school; they are family. The Headmistress requests that all students treat one another with the same respect that should be used towards her.
  • Classes are a very important aspect of school life. It is expected that all students attend all assigned classes, unless they are sick; in the case of ill heath, the infirmary should be informed straight away.
  • Students sleep in assigned dorms for a reason. Please try to actually sleep in them, and not in other rooms around the school, or in fellow classmates rooms.
  • All students must be in their dorms by 11:30 pm. May it be noted that lights do not have to be out by then; student judgement is acceptable in this case.
  • The dorms are gender separate for a reason.
  • Usage of powers within the walls of the school is to be limited. All students who decide to use powers in the school are held by strict rules of practice, and must avoid destroying the building, or hurting fellow students or teachers.
  • If any students so choose to start a relationship with any of the students in this school, there must be no evidence of it apparent. The Headmistress also does not want to hear about it. Students studies are to come first. It is understood that all students should make the best decisions they can with their time at Babylon. Romantic relationships are allowed, but must be second to school work.
  • The common rooms are not to be used as power practice rooms. The track and field outside are perfect places to practice students powers in large scales.
  • Finally, it is the goal of Babylon School, its staff, teachers, and Headmistress Hunt herself that all students find Babylon to be a fun place to live, and a good learning environment; all the staff hope that every student enjoys their stay. It is not everyday where students, like those that attend Babylon, can learn about who they are without being judged by the world around them. May every student note that every other person in this school is just like them in one way or another; everyone has their own reasons for being here. And, if any student ever needs to talk about anything at all, the offices of Headmistress Hunt and Counselor Sean Summers are always open.

RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE ROLEPLAYERS:
By submitting a character form, you agree to the below-mentioned rules.

  • No one liners. The least I will take for any post is a well thought out paragraph.
  • Characters will not be chosen just because I know you. I will be picking characters based on attention to detail.
  • I like grammar. Grammar is good. Please try to use it. Thank you.
  • Myself [GoriexGorie], Oran [Oran Tarlin], and Pup [sxxy_pup666] are the GM's to this RP. So, all in all, that makes us your Gods. Don't like it? Leave. ;)
  • Please respect all of the other members of the RP. While drama may and will happen IC, don't take any of it out of character. If you want to argue with someone, do it outside of my RP.
  • Overall, try to keep the story line going. If you feel like it is lacking in some areas, don't hesitate to liven things up some. This RP is completely character motivated. :) It feeds from you, if you get what I'm saying.
  • Romance is 100% ENCOURAGED! I love romance just as much - and probably even more - than the next person. I'm a hopeless romantic. FEED ME ROMANCE!
  • The same goes for Drama. Drama is what makes this RP what it is. Without it, it would just be some... boring school for sorta awesome people. WITH IT, it's an awesome school for freakishly awesome people!.
  • Make sure you pay attention to what is going on in the RP before you post. :)
  • You may make as many characters as you'd like - but if you can't manage them, don't bother making them. :P
  • Overall, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FUN! This RP should be a way for you to branch out. If you ever feel like you need help with your writing, feel free to approach me. I'll be glad to help~!

Babylon School For Exceptional Youth
Saturday, September 4th
Sometime after Noon

Victoria stood at the top of the Grand Staircase, as she let her eyes sweep over the Main Hall below. It was only the first weekend for students to be at Babylon, and so far, she had yet to meet any new faces. She knew that there had to be new kids enrolled this year; there always were new students every year. She figured the new ones would arrive soon, at least. After all, most arrived on the weekend before school started to get settled in. The cars would bring them around to the school from whichever various airport in Rhode Island that they flew into, and then they would all have to try their hardest to get settled in, in just a few days, before they would have to begin their classes.

She never really understood why they couldn't get more time to settle in and make friends, and she had approached her mother on the subject. Of course, her mother wasn't really sure either, and had simply told her that that was the way that things had been at the school, even when she had first started attending.

So Victoria didn't bring up the subject again; it appeared as if things wouldn't change, so she figured she shouldn't even talk about it.

Making her way down the stairs, she made her way to the library, looking for her mother. That was where Alyssum, her mom, was usually found when she wasn't teaching or in her room. Her mom sure did love to read. Victoria's normally smiling face held just the smallest hint of a frown at that thought; 'I wish I could read like everyone else...' But she was quick to discard the thought and add a bit more of a bounce to her step.

It was only a matter of moments before she was in the library, and there her mother sat, curled up in one of the large high-backed chairs, a large book - probably a history book - planted solidly in her lap.

Her mother looked up from her book, noticing her daughters entrance, and smiled. "Why hello there, Victoria. What are you up to this morning?" she asked the teenager, placing a book mark in her book before closing it and giving her daughter her full attention.

"I'm looking for Mason..." Victoria said, a smile on her face as she clasped her hands together behind her.

"And why is that?"

"I'm bored. None of the new students have arrived yet."

Alyssum couldn't help but laugh slightly at her youngest child. "But you haven't given them enough time to arrive. You're always so quick to find something new to do... Why don't you take a seat on the Grand Staircase, and wait for someone to arrive. Then, when they do, you can show them around. I'll be something fun to do, instead of annoying your twin brother."

"Oh, but Mom. I don't annoy Mason" Victoria said, defending herself with the most honest look imaginable.

Her mother just smiled. "Well, I still think you should take a seat on the steps and wait." She handed her daughter a book as she paused. "And read this while you wait. Its a new copy of Sherlock Holmes that your Aunt Willow got to add to the library - you had said you wanted to read it."

Victoria took the book from her mothers hand, running her finger along the braille title of it, before a smile appeared on her face. "I love The Hound of the Baskervilles!" And with that, Victoria turned from the room with a wave of departure to her mother. Alyssum couldn't help but smile before opening her book once more.

It was not long before Victoria found herself sitting on the last step of the Grand Staircase, her legs tucked under her, and her back leaning against the railing for support. Her finger was running across the raised braille on the page, a small smile on her face. But though her mind was paying attention to the reading, her ears were still listening to hear for any footsteps in the room that would indicate a new presence; she did so very much want to meet someone new sooner than later.

Kyra was in her class room, tiding up things before the year began. She did this every weekend, she absolutly hated a dirty room. 'Yeah, and a dirty room doesn't like you.' She thought sneezing as she dusted off some of the books that haven't been touched in ages. 'Hell, this is going to be hell.'

Taking the duster Kyra took it to the other bookself in her room, which was medium sized compaired to the other classrooms. Her room fit about 100 people but she never had that many in her classroom, thank god. She couldn't handle that many students. She would go completely insane and her friend, Alyssum would probably worry about her, and Kyra knew that her friend didn't need that right now.

Shaking her head, she stopped cleaning, it was getting extremely dusty and her allergies were acting up for she was sneezing more and more. Leaving her room, she made sure to turn the light off and to lock the door behind her. 'I'll go to the library, Alyssum may be there, that and I need to read some, take my mind off cleaning.' She thought, not particually liking the fact that all she's been thinking about is cleaning.

Getting to the library she passed Victoria, who was to occupied by the book in her hands. "Hey Aly, what are you reading?" She asked, finding her friend curled up in an oversized chair, with a history book in her hand. As she waited for a reply, Kyra found the mystry book she has been reading and almost finished.

Emiri looked out the car window, watching the trees pass as the car rounded yet another corner. "We are almost there miss." The driver said, looking at her in the rearview mirror, she just nodded knowing he saw her. She could see clouds forming in the sky, and if she didn't calm down then it would be a storm.

You see, Emiri Dawn isn't a normal girl... She controls the weather. Some times her emotions get the best of her and the weather changes as her emotion gets stronger. She was extrememly distressed right now, so storm clouds were forming, and she hoped people were reading for some thunder. Shaking her head she cleared it, and watched as the clouds lessened, but they didn't go away. 'I hope no one notices...' She thought as she drove up to the school, not knowing what to expect.

Tormin looked around the surrounding area, as strange as it was he walked to this new place, this school.... It was not such a long walk really, it only took 14 hours, and covered about 700 miles, a feat that was not hard for him, he could teleport anywhere as long as he could see it in his mind. He decided if he was going to go to this school he would at least scope it out first. First thing that was first, he slowly teleported around the perimeter of the school looking at it from every angle he could, including tree tops, although a storm had started to gather so he started to stay on the ground. He always checked every place out that he would go inside of to give him a general idea of fits exact size, it would help him avoid accidents like teleporting into a wall or over a balcony if it was a multiple story building.

Satisfied that the school did not have a ridiculously huge student body he started walking towards the door. He was still shy of people, and he was always careful not to flaunt what he could do, most people feared it. He heard this place was different though, but he walked all the same, it was always best to be safe. By the time he got to the door the clouds began to clear up a little, which was odd... He pushed the thought out of his head for the moment. He was more concerned about meeting anyone on his way in.

He did not like most people as a rule of thumb, everyone had a darkness in their heart, including himself, and he disliked that darkness. It was another gift of his, he was not very strong with it, but he was also an empath, he could always tell if someone was lying to him as well as read any strong emotions or thoughts people had as well as intentions. He generally used this to avoid conflicts and avoid people. The majority of emotions, thoughts, and intentions has to be strong for him to be able to pick it up, however he always noticed that everyone always had at least one thing strong enough for him to pick up at all times. Once he could identify how each person sends off a wave of readable energy, or at least he believed it was energy he was reading from them, he could feel them and know who they are without seeing them if they were close to him. If he was sensitive to one particular empathy, it was the darkness in peoples hearts, the darkness that gives away when someone lies or has malicious intent. Not everyone had it bad, but most were bad enough. And it was those people he tried to avoid.

Danielle made a hard right and shifted her car into park then killing the motor. She looked up at the huge school and her midnight blue eyes widened. There was no way she would be able to find all of her classes in a place like this. She sighed and retrieved her two bags from the passenger seat and pushed open her door. She stood and stretched her limbs, the drive from Texas to Rhode Island. Some tried to call her a country girl since she was from the big state, but she was the farthest from it. Practically glued cellular device in hand and her bags swung over her shoulders, Danny headed in the direction of the main entryway, or what she thought was an enteryway, anyaway. She pushed open the front door and saw a girl sitting on the front steps. Her thoughts willingly entered into Danny's own head, but she pushed them away, not really caring about what the voice had to say. She tilted her head, now at the bottom of the stairs looking up at the girl and watching her hands trace across the page. So she was blind. Half of her wanted to pity her, but she knew that she shouldn't. "What are you reading? Erm...Victoria, is it?" She asked politely.

Ezekiel sat in the passenger seat with his heaphones on, blasting one of his favorite songs, paying little to not attention to the driver. The driver had asked him a few questions but the sound canceling headphones negated them quite easily, classical, dubstep, and some other music making it quite difficult for conversation. The boys head was stuck out the window, taking in the surroundings, noting how it wasn't home, especially with the foliage, not to mention the temperature. His eyes twitched and looked ahead of them, a large building coming into view, "I guess this is it..." He said, slipping his headphones from over his ears and letting them slip around his neck.

"Yeah... Home sweet home." The driver said, throwing his blinker on and pulling up to the front gates.

Ezekiel wasn't at all too nervous about this, though it was a hundred and eighty degree change from what he was used to... If there were other people like him, this shouldn't be too difficult to adjust... Well, lets not get too hasty yet bud.

The car pulled up to the front, allowing him to jump out and grab his duffel bag, backpack, and a box holding things from home which wouldn't fit in the other two. "Thanks for the ride man." He said, giving the guy a wave by putting his index and middle finger to his forehead and moving it outward, almost like a half hearted salute. The driver nodded, putting the car back in drive and going off. Ezekiel took in a deep breath and turned in place, looking up at the building. "Screw it..." He said, his eyes looking up to the sky as traces of a storm began entering the area, thunder not too far behind the clouds. "Alright, maybe a little more like home." He said to himself, grabbing his duffel bag off the ground and making his way up to the front door. He didn't notice the storm almost clear as he went to the door, though he most definitely would later on, probably finding himself more disappointed than not.

His eyes came up and caught sight of a person who he hadn't noticed, a male roughly the same age as himself. Ezekiel cleared his throat as he came closer, hesitating for a moment before speaking, "What's going on man...?" He asked, not noticing the music still blasting through his headphones. Ezekiel could notice a few scars on the guy, though it wasn't a distraction to him. He had a few of his own as well. A girl had made her way up the stairs and through the front door... Ezekiel maybe breaking eye contact with the guy a little too long, though he didn't instinctively stare at her back end like most males would. As she dissapeared he blinked for a second and looked back at the guy in front of him, "Er, yeah." He paused for a moment, "My name's Ezekiel by the way." He slipped his duffel bag around his neck for a moment, holding out his hand to shake the other guys if he'd allow it, something he did with just about anyone he met.

"When is this drive going to be over, Laurel?" asked Cole anxiously. This had been about the fifth time he had asked this question in the last two hours of the drive. The siblings had traveled from Kansas City to here, and Cole had been restless the whole day. They had got up at four in the morning and were just arriving in Rhode Island, late in the afternoon. Their parents were never the richest people, and had denied that the two take a plane trip to Rhode Island if they didn't need to. The money payed just to get them both in to the school this year had been enough for the year.

"Look, I want to get there just as much as you do," said Laurel. "And if you'd look up from your phone for two seconds, you would notice that we're in the driveway of the place right now." The small red car pulled around and in front of the beautiful building.

"Wow," was all that Cole could make out. The school looked amazing and he was finally here. He could finally meet people that understood him, other than his sister of course.

"I told you it was cool," laughed Laurel. "Now get our bags." She walked off from the car in to the building without giving Cole a chance to retaliate. Cole ignored it and took some of the bags. Even though there were about fifteen bags in the car, he ignored her and grabbed four of them.

"Someone with super-human strength would really help right now." Cole laughed to himself. "There's gotta be one of you guys here. Otherwise I overestimated this school." He could already see Laurel talking to friends from last year. Cole didn't know anybody this year, and was jealous of his sister already having friends here. He was never the best at making friends, mainly because of his "power". This was a school meant for those people though, so it would be easier.

"Hi Victoria!" said Laurel as she walked in, seeing her sitting on the steps. "How are you?"

Emiri got out of the car noticing two guys talking, someone had already walked into the school. Looking at the sky she let the storm form a little thicker, might as well let the weather show how she really feels about this. Nodding at the driver after she got her bags she started walking towards the oversized doors.

'This place is huge.' She thought, dipping her head when she felt someone looking at her. 'Why would anyone look at you?' She thought, hiding her face with her hair, like she does when she is nervous. Shaking her head she went looking for her room.

When she found it, she noticed there were two names by it... 'So I have a roomie. Great.' She though, picking out one of the beds, getting the one on the right. She unpacked all her belongings into the dresser that was provided and put clean sheats on the full sized bed, also provided. Taking out her laptop she put in on the desk, making sure to put the internet cord in, then she locked it away in the desk that it was sitting on.

Finishing up, she decided to take a walk around the school, look around. Looking out of the window, she noticed it started drizzling. 'Everyone will be getting inside now.' She thought as thunder rolled around the sky, making her jump.

Tormin looked at the Green eyed tank in the shape of a human next to him. This guy was seriously tall... and built... yup... Tank. And he could feel a reddish tinge from the energy coming off this guy. 'Remind me to dot my "i's" and cross my "t's" with this one. He looks like he can kill a bear with his hands.' Tormin mentally told himself. He could not identify the output he could feel, it was not hostile, more along the lines of a sleeping volcano if he had to make a guess from what he was getting. Seeing no point in being rude, other than ignoring the chick who passed them that he immediately identified as another empath of sorts although hers was different, and definitely the darker side, he shook the other boys hand.
"The name is Tormin, although you can call me Torry." He spoke lower than his natural voice with a slightly musical lilt to make his voice sound more soothing to someone's ears. A trick he picked up in the theater. "Is this your first year?"

Victoria sat on the step still, her hand moving quickly over the pages of the novel. She was almost fully engrossed in the Sherlock Holmes story; almost. Her mind was still slightly concentrating on the sound of footsteps approaching her. And in her minds eye, what she could see with her pressure, almost like a full map of the area in her head... well, she could see someone approaching, even though she wasn't actually looking.

Victoria regarded it as a help, especially since she would have been startled when the stranger spoke to her, had she not noticed her approaching presence in the first place.

"What are you reading, erm... Victoria, is it?" The voice that came from the girls mouth was very polite; it had a slightly higher pitched ring to it, and Victoria took to that strangers voice almost immediately. A smile popped onto her face, as she answered.

"I'm reading a new novel my Aunt Willow got me; Sherlock Holmes, and the Hound of the Baskervilles. Its a rather good book, I'd say. And how do you know my name?"

She paused for a moment, before almost disregarding her own question completely. "You're new to Babylon, I'm guessing. Do you like it here so far?" She smiled at the other female, before she noticed the presence of yet another person. The footsteps of this person were easily recognizable, and Victoria's face lit up almost instantly at the voice that came from her mouth.

"Hi Victoria. How are you?"

Victoria closed her book, though not before dog-earing the page, and looked up at the voice of Laurel Fredericks, a friend from years past. Victoria had considered Laurel one of her best friends at the school for years now, and was glad to hear her voice after not being around her all summer.

"Laurel! I'm doing well enough. I'm very excited for school to be starting again, anyway. Oh, and Laurel, this is..." Victoria paused as she gestured toward the newcomer to the school. "Actually, I'm not really sure who this is. I'm terribly sorry for being so rude, but I haven't learned your name yet..." she offered towards the other girl in the group, along with a smile.

Mrs. McAllister was sitting, still curled up in her chair, as she heard footsteps coming into the room. She glanced up at the figure of her long-time friend and co-worker, before smiling.

Alyssum answered her friends question with a laugh. "I'm reading another 'History of Mutants' book, again. I just can't help myself; I know I teach the class, and all, but the subject is just so interesting." She settled more into the chair, before noticing that Kyra had picked a mystery novel off of the shelf to finish; she had been working on that one for a while now.

"You're still not done, Kyra?" she asked with a giggle. "My, my. You're an English teacher! I expect more from you." A playful expression was held on her face, before she laughed some more. "Say, did you see if any kids had started coming to the school? Victoria was in here not that long ago, wondering where her brother had gotten off to. I told her to wait on the Main Staircase to see if anyone arrived to the school, and to give them a tour if they were new." She smiled some more, before glancing down at her reading, and closing it with a bookmark in its pages once more.

Headmistress Hunt found herself letting out a sigh of closure as she finished the signature on one last piece of paper on her desk. There were still a few things she had to get in order for the new year, but she would have a few weeks into the new school year to get them finished, so she wasn't too terribly worried about it all; it was just a lot of paper work.

She pushed herself away from her desk as she heard the first crack of thunder in the sky. Glancing out the window of her office, she let out a slight laugh. It wasn't necessarily a laugh of happiness, but rather one of irony. Of course, it would start raining on the first day that students had begun arriving to Babylon. It was, of course, her luck. And the school was old, large, and made of stone. So the sound of the rain was amplified inside, just like the sounds inside an old cathedral would be.

As Lilli's car rolled up to the school she looked outside. Same old school. But for some reason it looked a little off. Maybe it was because it was dark out. But it was still daytime. The sky hadn't looked too promising. Plus her biggest fear was thunder. As the car rolled down the driveway it came to a slow stop. As she stepped out the car, she could feel energy all around her. Nervousness, excitement, dread; all feelings congruent with the first day of school. This was her least favorite day of the year. That, and the final exams day.

She turned around and thanked her driver, before going to the back to grab a few bags. She walked to the front door with about four bags, two on each side. She also carried her purse on her right arm. As she opened the door, a loud thunder crack startled her, and she yelped in surprise and fear. She was quick to look around, hoping no one heard her. Lilli then made her way to the pretty staircase where a few girls were talking; she recognized two of them as Victoria and Laurel, both students that had been in attendance at the school when she had started there two years ago. She wasn't really in the mood for talking, so she passed by them as quick as she could, hoping they wouldn't bother to strike up a conversation with her.

Lilli made it to the second floor, before pausing to think about where her room was. It took a moment, but she finally remembered. At last, she made it to her room.

She placed all of her bags down on the floor of her room, before pulling out her cell to check her texts; her main interest was checking to see if her twin had replied her. Nothing. With a slightly disappointed sigh, she picked everything up off the floor, and placed it all on her bed.

After she put everything in its rightful place, she decided to go out and take a nice walk around the building. She decided she might as well get herself acquainted with this beautiful building, again.

As Lilli walked around she saw a boy. He looked very tall, at least over 6 foot. He had dirty blond hair with either green or blue eyes... or maybe blue/green eyes. Lilli really couldn't tell. He seemed a little confused and lost, so Lilli walked over to the boy. "Hey, are you new? Do you need any help with your bags?" She paused for a moment. "Oh, I am being rude, sorry about that. My name is Lilli" she said with a smile.

Gwen was sitting in the back of her mom's rental car, a small blue SUV that smelled oddly like the over used air freshener that the rental place used and it had been burning her nose the whole car ride. Her mom was driving in silence, trying to keep her eye from twitching as Gwen crossed her arms and blasted her iPod as she looked out the window as scenery whirled by, obviously pouting in spite of her mom. As the building came into view, Gwen's mom gave her a look in the rearview mirror and mouthed, "Turn your music off now." and, reluctantly, Gwen did as her mom ordered.

"This is for your own good Gwendolyn... How many times have we had to move because you cant keep your powers in check? Seven.. Seven times you have hurt someone or destroyed something.. I'm sick of it and this school is supposed to help you with that.. At least wipe that 'I-hate-this-kill-me-now' look off your face and give this place a chance.." her mom said in a stern yet slightly pleading voice as she started to drive down the driveway. Gwen sighed and rolled her brown eyes a bit. "Fine..:" she mumbled obviously not wanting to talk about this further. She was mad at her mom. Mad for making her go to this stupid school. So what if when she went to use a prank to get revenge on that prissy little cheerleader but wound up accidently loosing control of her elemental powers and wound up being the reason that cheerleaders in the hospital? Maybe if her mom wasn't always trying to change who she was and if her dad was still alive then things would have been different. But no, her life has to stay difficult it cant be easy at all. Her mom stopped the car and cut off the engine, turning around in her seat with a frown.

"Listen despite what you think I'm not ecstatic about this either-" she said, Gwen cutting her off with a scoff before her mom started talking again. "But give this place a chance. For me. Babylon could be what you need to get a grip on you powers so we dont have to move all the time.." her mom sighed and looked at Gwen with a hint of distaste in her eyes. "And did you have to dress in.. that..?" she asked, referring to Gwen's outfit. Gwen looked down at her ripped up black skinny jeans, Black Veil Brides band tee, black, silver, and red studded belt, black and red Vans, her multitude of black, red, white, and gray jelly bracelets, silver chain necklace with a metal bow and skull, and she smirked and nodded. "Yes.. If it's my first day here I'm not going to dress up.. Everyone's going to see the real me.." she said as she fixed her black and red hair so the side fringe laid over her left eye better and moved the black bow a bit, checking her black eyeliner and fixed her silver snakebites and nose stud in the mirror before stuffing her iPod into her pocket next to her cell phone and hopped out of the car as her mom opened the trunk.

Her mom shook her head with a sigh as Gwen pulled her suitcases out of the trunk, all three of them along with her carry on, all of the bags she covered with pins and stickers of stuff like skulls, bats, and band names. Her mom closed the trunk and frowned. "Gwendolyn what am I going to do with you?" she sighed before dragging Gwen into a hug and going into the driver's seat of the car. "Be good here Gwen I dont want to get any calls about you misbehaving or anything ok?" Gwen nodded. "Alright mom.. I love you.." Her mom started the car. "Ok.. I love you and I'll talk to you soon.. Bye baby.." she said as she rolled up the window and slowly drove down the driveway and turned back onto the road and drove away.

Gwen turned and looked at the school with a slight sigh. Why did it feel like this was going to be a long year? She turned and looked around at the few people who were outside, not seeing anyone who even remotely looked like they'd have common interests as her, just like every other school she went to. Gwen heaved a big sigh and turned back to her suitcases, the carryon bag hanging off her shoulder as she struggled to grab the three suitcases, barely managing to keep her hand on them all. She had only taken about 3 steps towards the school before she stumbled like an idiot, sending her bags to the ground and as she tried to regain her balance, she tripped as wall landing on her face. She got up, her hands and knees stinging and she muttered under her breath taking a quick glance at the small scrapes on her hands with a sigh and struggled to get her bags back in her hands.
((had to fix something sorry)

Kyra stuck her tongue out at Alyssum. "Leave it be! It's a good book and I haven't gotten away from the room cleaning crap that you know I do all the time." She said, sitting in the oversized chair by her best friend. "I believe some kids are here, the weather has changed quiet a bit, I think it's raining, but I do know it's thundering." As she said that another round of thunder rolled over them this time bringing lightening with it. "Yeah, I hope no one fears this kind of stuff." She said to herself, knowing Alyssum heard her.

Going back to her book, she really wanted to finish it. It's been to long since she started it, and it was starting to get on her nerves.

Gwen sighed in frustration since she was still having trouble with her bags as the thunder rumbled. She looked up at the sky. "Really?!" she asked annoyed to no one in particular. She grumbled and threw her carryon bag over her shoulder grabbed two suitcases in one hand and the third in the other and slowly step by step made her way towards the school, dragging her bags behind her not caring she was probably ruining the bottom of them as long as she got inside soon she would be happy. After what felt like ages but was really only about four minutes she managed to get through the door and drooped her bags and pulled a crumpled up paper out of her pocket, looking for what room she had and sighed annoyed as she realized it was on the second floor. She dragged her bags to the bottom of the steps and looked up at them. "For the love of god can this get any worse!?" she complained a little louder than she intended as she kicked her bag.

((iHipster, I'm guessing you're adressing Cole but I'll correct it if I'm wrong))

Cole walked up the stairs, making sure to get Laurel to notice him having trouble carrying the bags upstairs, with excessive coughing and fake tripping over stairs and dropping bags. He even said overly loud, "Well, just another five of Laurel's bags, and then I can get my own." Laurel just brushed it off, being the slightly rude person she was. Cole rolled his eyes and laughed to him self. Most brothers would complain about this situation, but Cole and Laurel were a lot closer than most siblings. Ever since they had discovered that they both could see ghosts, even though Cole was a little more developed, they had a better connection as brother and sister, and had been close ever since, with few fights or problems.

When he finally made it upstairs with little regard from Laurel, he walked around the hallway with a confused look across his face. Cole knew where his room probably was after staring at the picture of his room in the the brochure/map for the school. He was in Mr. Vanderbilt's Room, and he was glad that he was going to have roommates. Most people would want a single room, but he wanted to make friends badly at this school, and hopefully the room would help him with that. "Where is her room?" he asked himself. After he made a complete 360, he noticed a girl in front of him. She looked probably a year younger than him or more and pretty. "Uh, ya I'm new," he replied. "I'm Cole Fredericks. My older sister is Laurel Fredericks, she's a senior. Nice to meet you." He looked around once again and then turned and asked, "Do you know where the...Burgundy Room? What the hell is burgundy?" He meant to ask that to himself, but realized he had said it aloud. "Oh sorry. Forget the last part," he said.

Aubrie looked in amazement at the beauty of this gigantic school. She nearly fell out the window of her car when she leaned out it. "Wow!", was the only word she could get out. Her father turned around and smirked at her. "You seem to already love this school. I told you that you would love it, but did you believe me?" Aubrie eyed her dad for a moment and turned to pretend like he never made the comment.

As her father slowed down at the end of the driveway, Aubrie saw a younger girl, bent over on the ground. She looked like she had fallen down. But before Aubrie could get out of the car to help her, the other girl had already picked herself up and made her way into the school.

She quickly jumped out of the car, and grabbed her bags from the back. Aubrie turned around and shouted, "I love you dad! Tell everyone I love them at home! Bye!", to her father. Then she made her way up into the school. Spotting the girl who had fallen standing at the foot of the staircase, she made her way over to her. "I saw what happened to you, are you alright?" she asked the girl.

( Jayhawker010, yes. Sorry if I didn't make sense. Also my sister, Gorie, is going to make a full map of the school tonight and upload it to here. That way things wont be so confusing for layouts. )
Lilli smiled at what Cole had said. "Haha, Burgundy is a color, a dark maroon color. Its pretty much red... I think the Burgundy Room is on the third floor." Lilli pointed to the end of the hall way to a set of stairs that went up. "If you go up those stairs, you'll get to the third floor where all the 'colored' bedrooms are." She gave him a smile. "And it's nice to meet you too. If you need any help I am staying in the Purple Room, which is also on the third floor, all the way at the end."

Gwen jumped slightly, not hearing the other girl come up behind her and turned to face her a little embarrassed. "Um yeah.. I'm fine just a small fall.." she said, rubbing the back of her neck before smiling a little at the girl as she flipped her hair a little so she could see a little better. Remembering how her mom had told her to try and act better at this school during almost the whole plane ride and car ride she smiled and held her hand out. "I'm Gwen.."

"Hi Gwen!" she quickly said. Placing all her bags down she firmly shook her hand. "I'm Aubrie Knight. You can call me something else, if you want to. I like nicknames." she said laughing.

"So, Gwen. Is this your first year?" Aubrie asked. "Cause, I am not too sure where to go. I think I am going to the to the second floor? If you need any help, you can ask me. Though I am not the best person to go to, seeing as I have no idea where anything is." Aubrie said with a smile.

"Oh, and by the way, I love your outfit. You're going to have to let me know where you got your clothes. Its super adorable!" Aubrie said ecstatically.

Aubrie was one of those girls who wouldn't ever shut up, she didn't really know when to stop talking. She also really loved coffee. To a lot of people she came off as annoying, which she was, most of the time. When it came to making friends she wouldn't hold back. She loved to be herself. So when it came down to it, she told things the way she thought of it. Nothing else.

Emiri followed the voices, jumping again when she heard the second roll of thunder, but relaxed at the flash of lightening. People thought she was weird because of that. Thunder scares her, but lightening calmed her. Shaking her head, she walked to where the stairs were. She saw two girls and a boy. Blushing she noticed the boy was pretty cute. 'Leave him be, he's talking to someone else.' Shaking her head again she walked up to them, ignoring the fact that he was already talking to someone.

"Hi." She said, smiling lightly, pushing her hair behind her ear. Meeting new people was never her forte, she always kept to herself, but her mother wants her to open up. Another crash of thunder spoke out her nervousness about this, that made her jump, again. Breathing, she tried to calm herself. It worked a little, and she felt he storm calm with her a little also.

( Hi Pup, were you talking to Cole where my character was talking to him? If not, I will change this. )

"Uhmmm... Hi?" Lilli glanced at the girl who had walked into their conversation. She glanced between Cole and the newcomer. "... My names Lilli." Lilli got very tense as the thunder struck. Then Lilli noticing the girl got very tense, too. She relaxed a little at the sight of the girl reacting the same way to the weather and asked, "Are you afraid of thunder, too?"

Ezekiel grinned at the guy, "Nice to meet you man." He kind of tilted his head as he was questioned about if he had been here before... God, was it that obvious? "Er... Yeah, my parents just found out about this place, some of the guys around the border were getting a little uppity when they heard about what I could do..." He stopped, scratching the back of his head as it seemed rain was about to slap this place in the face. Ezekiel looked up and squinted a little, "Lets get inside before this shit hits for real." Ezekiel said with a faint smile, walking up to the door and swinging it open using his foot, catching it as someone had just walked in, holding it open for Tormin, walking a little in the main hallway. "This place isn't exactly what I expected..." He said lightly, thinking it would have been a little lower key, but this was totally cool with him, architecture was one of the things he loved.

"Sounds like a good one, I've always liked Sherlock Holmes myself." Danielle smiled knowing the question would pop us as to how she could tell what her name was. She decided not to lie about the whole ordeal and just spilled the truth, the words falling out of her mouth one after the other like an overflowing fountain. "I can read your mind." She stated then shrugged like it was no big deal. Her midnight blue eyes looked over at the girl next to them that Victoria was talking to. Laurel She stashed that away in her memory knowing how horrible she was with names. She smiled over at the pretty girl then looked back to Victoria. "Yeah, I mean, I've only just walked through the door, but it is very pretty and like the idea of a challenge in finding my way." She realized that she was rambling and stopped talking, pushing her lips together to stop herself.

"Oh, hi," said Cole. "I'm Cole." He heard Lilli mention the thunder. Cole always enjoyed the thunder. For some reason, it scared away ghosts. Everytime it would start to thunder, the ghosts would hear it and dissapear. It was almost like they didn't know it was just a weather pattern, but it was an attack on the ghost world. Suprisingly, Cole didn't notice any ghosts yet at this school. "I like the thunder," said Cole. "It keeps--" He contemplated if he should say anything, but then it hit him. Everyone here had a power. This wasn't regular public school anymore, where he'd get laughed at if he said it. "-it keeps the ghost away." He paused. "I see ghosts." He said it blankly without emotion, but looking at the two girls, hoping for something other than, that's weird.

"You can read minds can you," said Laurel. "That's cool, Danielle?" said Laurel. "Danielle right? I'm Laurel, ghost whisperer." She laughed quietly. "No not really, I just see them. My weirdo brother can talk to them, lucky S.O.B."

"Really? You like thunder? It is one of my big fears. I am not really afraid of many things, but when it comes to thunder..." Lilli said slowly. Lilli quickly moved off the subject. "Cool, you can see ghosts? Well I suppose you don't think it is cool."
"You have an interesting power. Mine is plain and old. I am a empath and a emotional telepath. Which means I can feel what other people feel, fiscally and mentally, and I can make other people feel a certain way." Lilli said nervously. She glanced at the bags in Cole's hands. "Oh, I should probably stop annoying you, and let you get back to what you were doing. Also, if you need any help with your stuff, I have been done for a little while, but I don't mind helping out." Lilli said with a smile.
