Jerry Harper

"All of that gives me a headache..."

0 · 375 views · located in Forest

a character in “Alchemist 2”, as played by AdmireAtStuff

Description

Jerry is a cynical, easily annoyed and serious 16-year-old boy. He has little tolerance to nonesense and would see things from a rather dark perspective. He calls this logic and reason. This boy is rarely seen smiling and often heard murmuring something under his breath. He has a kind side which he doesn't bother to show or hide. Jerry usually shows compassion when he sees that the person in need has a serious problem.

Jerry was walking around the woods, as he could barely wait to get out of it.
"Why did my sister made me go here, searching for pine cones? Why does she need pinecores? Why didn't he get them by herself?" he was thinking wgile filling a basket with his sister's request.

Amber was sitting under a tree, writing things down in her spell book as she hummed quietly, at school she was always shy and nervous because there were so many people. But when she was alone in the forest, she felt safe and a little more confident.

Soon Jerry saw his classmate Amber sitting under a tree.
"What is she doing there?" he thought. "Probably relaxing. Better leave her at peace."

The boy was about to leave, until something about Amber caught his attention.

"What is she reading? I'll just ask her for imformation, she might have a good taste in books. Then I'll leave her." he thought.

"Hey, Amber..." he called. "Hey. What are you reading?"

Amber jumped when she heard a boy's voice come from close by and looked up, quickly closing her book as she saw Jerry. Oh no... this wasn't good. He found her writing in her spell book. She set the book down on the opposite side of her out of site and smiled nervously. "J-Just a little... fantasy..."

"Alright..." Jerry replied. Once again, he was about to leave, until he thought of something. Maybe Amber felt alone at school. Asking her more about books might help her find something in common with at least one of her classmates. In that case it would be Jerry. At that moment he wasn't rushing into creating friendships, but he felt it would be the right thing to do for Amber.

"Can you reccomend me some fantasy books?" he asked her. "What is this one called?"

Amber looked down nervously, putting a hand over the book's cover, which looked very... well... witch like and she answered quietly. "Um... Twilight..." She said a little to quickly.

The title 'Twilight' brought a bitter feeling in his chest and an unpleasant expression on his face.

"Alright, one book doesn't determinate her whole taste." he thought. "I don't feel like being a jerk for letting her alone for such a stupid reason."

"What other books would you reccomend?" he asked. "Seeing that you like reading... Wait... that cover doesn't look like Twilight..."

Amber's eyes widened nervously and she pulled the book further out of view. "O-Oh... um... well... I liked the Tiger's Curse series..." She said, avoiding his observation.

Noticing that Amber wasn't really in the mood to share, Jerry decided to walk.

He didn't plan to trip and fall, but it happened. The pine corns spread around both of them, as Jerry started picking them up, intil he saw the book.

"This... isn't Twilight..." he said.

Amber's eyes widened and she quickly stood up, grabbing her book and backing away. "I-I have to go!" She said hurriedly and started running deeper into the forest.

Jerry raised his brow at Amber's sudden runaway. This girl hid something for sure. Maybe it was for the best if he left her alone. Who knows what would happen on the next day at school?

The next day Amber came to school and sat in her seat in the back of the class and pulled out the stuff for math class.

The teacher was explaining the new material, but Jerry's mind couldn't comperhend it at that moment. He really had to find a job soon.

He quickly glanced to his classmate Amber. Her strange behaviour was another thing that bugged Jerry's mind.
"I should mind my own business, Amber is not a small child. Besides, she wouldn't share anything after I saw her behaviour." he thought.

Yet, Amber probably had a serious problem, which caused her to hide the book she was reading. The world's cruelty was a big enough reason to make this possible. Maybe after Maths he had to approach her, but how?

Soon after the end of class, Jerry went close to Amber, thinking what he would ask her.
"Hey, Amber. Did you do your English homework? You seem smart and I would like to compare the answers. I couldn't do exercise number 10. Did you do it?"
Probably that wasn't the best way to approach her, yet Jerry didn't have a better idea. He barely knew anything about her, so a usual small talk about homework might be a good start.

Amber jumped when she heard Jerry's voice and turned around to look up at him. She looked down nervously and nodded a little. "O-Ok... sure... I did it... maybe you could help me with number 7..."

"Okay." Jerry replied.

This was a good start. Maybe trust won't be born just by checking homework, but Jerry knew things wouldn't work out immediately.

As they got in the next room, Jerry had his text book and note book open in front of Amber.
"Number 7 can be tricky, but it's not impossible." he said, then he kept explaining it.

Amber nodded and looked on intrestedly as he explained then tried doing it for herself. "Like this?" She asked quietly.

"Yeah, that's correct." Jerry replied.

Soon both of them finished with number 10.
"Okay, what now?" Jerry thought, right before the class started.

"I must not only try to gain her trust. I still have my own problems, like finding a job, as my uncle was recently fired. And my sister is seven. She loves lemonade stands, but I doubt they would help. Still... something is bothering Amber. I'm sure. Ah, we're checking the homework, better open the books..." he thought during class. "She's probably going trough misery nobody would deserve... I can't only check homework with her until graduation. I should think of some progress soon..."

Amber helped him with number 10 then paid attention to the teacher as they went over the assignment, unaware of Jerry's mental dilemma.

It was finally time for lunch. Jerry was holding his food, looking for a table to sit on.
As usual, Amber was alone at her table.

"Maybe she likes it that way." Jerry thought. "Maybe she feels more comfortable by herself than around people. Or maybe not. Maybe this will be some kind of a progress."
He approached the red-haired girl, asking:
"Hi. May I sit here?"

Amber looked up surprised and looked at him shyly as she nodded softly. "Um... sure..." She said quietly as she took another bite of her ham and cheese sandwich.

Jerry sat and asked himself the same question as before:
"Now what?" he thought. At that moment he was out of ideas. Did he really think that thinking so much in order to gain the trust of the quiet girl in class just because he thought she might be alone in difficult times was worthed? After lunch he would probably just leave her alone. After all, she's not a small child, she could handle herself.

He would leave her alone, unless she soon shows some signs that he's not bothering her and she would like to have a friend.

Amber's question was straight to the point. Jerry called himself an idiot in his mind multiple times for not expectiong such a thing. Trying to look as calm as possible, his mind started rushing.

"Amber, we only talked about homework and had lunch. Classmates do such things, don't they?" he replied to her.

A second after that, Jerry realized his reply was stupid. Of course classmates did such things, but the two of them didn't before the encounter yesterday.

"Both of us barely do anything like that with anyone. Our social skills will melt away and we won't be ready to face reality once we become adults."

"Great, now it looks like I called her antisocial." he thought.
