Two uninterrupted hours, twenty students, a 10-page test, one proctor, a seemingly endless battle, all over again.
It was the day of the final exams.
Koizumi handed out water bottles and scolded the team members who hadn't been working hard, grumbling at Kei for having such a bored expression and complaining that he never seemed to have fun. Kei simply ignored her and wandered off to change out of his gym clothes and into his uniform. As he exited the locker room, he got himself immersed in Kingdom Hearts, shutting out his surroundings in favor of getting to class without the distraction of conversation. He was still staring at his gameboy when he got there and hardly even looked up as he walked into the room. Only after he'd taken his seat did he move his eyes from the game.
There weren't too many people in the room so far, as most students probably wanted to avoid the finals for as long as they could. Kei didn't really care. He did recognize a few of the people in the room, one of which being Koizumi, who was waving at him from the front of the room. His two roommates were also there, though it wasn't much of a surprise. In this room, gathered together, were all the students who were considered failures. The only reason Kei was even there was because he'd spent more time playing volleyball than worrying about his grades, which had somehow caused him to end up amongst his rather unintelligent classmates.
For now, he simply turned back to his game to await the arrival of Tooru-sensei, who would inevitably ruin the rest of that year.
As the team headed off to change, Ryo helped the coach tear down the net and put away the equipment. A couple of her friends were waiting outside the gym when she went to leave, and she shared the usual chitchat as they made their way to class. Exams were the main topic of the conversation, and Ryoko couldn't say much except for the fact that she'd spent just about every but of her free time in the last three months studying. She didn't like to complain about things because it always made the mood bland.
Ryo couldn't help but wave to Sawamura as she entered the classroom, and he ignored her, just like always. Ryo didn't really mind his antisocial persona, even if she did find him to be more than a little boring. Looking around the room, she noticed several other people whom she recognized. Ren, Mitsuo, Yoshie, even her sly roommate Ichinose and the annoying pervert Aaron. ' Typical... '

Yoshie had gotten to class relatively early, not a lot of people were there. She doesn't have much of a schedule outside of class-besides being a snoop. The finals were today but Yoshie wasn't that worried about it. She had gotten this far so she was obviously doing something right; granted, she didn't know what that "right thing" was. So, instead of being stressed about the possibility of not passing, Yoshie rested her cheek in the palm of her hand and stared at the chalkboard with glassy eyes. She had some thoughts to ponder.
"I wonder what I could eat for lunch today," Yoshie sighed, she probably shouldn't have skipped breakfast. Once I pass this test I won't have to worry about what kind of gross academy food I'll have to eat." Yoshie was too deep in her thoughts to notice students gradually pouring in. Among them were; Aaron the Ape; Mitsuo the Mask; Ichinose the Imp; and Ren the Rat-Yoshie had a lot of free time. This gave her the hint that it was probably close to testing time and she'd have to deal with a few certain individuals she wasn't too fond of. But she wasn't here to make friends anyway, she was here to pass this damned test.

Most people would not believe it, but there really was something that even Aaron, the thug, trembled in fear of. It was not some huge monster in his dreams, it was not being held at gun or, more likely in Japan, knifepoint. It wasn't being caught by the police after doing something illegal, and it wasn't dying. No, even worse than all of those was... the finals. Even being held up could not compare to the sheer amount of fear Aaron felt when thinking of these tests. They would decide his very fate, and whether or not he would pass on and leave this academy. The most frightening thing to him, however, was how helpless he felt. Fists couldn't solve questions, no matter how hard you punch. What, then, could Aaron do? His intellect was below average. Worse was that he was originally in America, so some of his earlier history classes and the sort were irrelevant now. It just made things worse than they already were, and he really wished he didn't have to put up with this kind of shit.
But he felt like in this regard, he wasn't entirely alone. He didn't find himself isolated in the classroom, after all. There were a number of people that he had seen before, none of which seemed too happy to be here with him. To name a few, he saw Yoshi as he entered the room, looking like she would prefer being anywhere else, a sentiment he shared with her. Sawamura didn't seem interested in anything but the gameboy in his hands, and Yo seemed about as bored and curious as Aaron himself was. Ren hadn't escaped either, poor girl. Aaron felt not an ounce of pity for the snake in the classroom, Sanada. Maybe if he spent less time dealing out tests and more time studying for them, he wouldn't be here. Aaron kept himself from glaring or otherwise looking more threatening than he already did, as he had no desire to cause any problems with the rest of the student body locked in this hellhole with him. Plus, while he had little in the way of positive feelings for Sandada, it wasn't like he benefited from glaring daggers at him 24/7, either. He had more important things to worry about right now.
The ex-thug leaned back in his chair, resting his legs on top of the desk, his hands behind his head. "A whole hour before we're actually s'posed to take this thing? And Teach isn't even here. How am I s'posed to flunk my finals if I can't even take 'em? Oh, wait, I'm sure that's what the next hour will be spent discuss'n." Aaron thought rather loudly with an even louder sigh. Were anyone bothering to even pay attention, they'd have notice Aaron's face twist in disgust at the very thought. He was clearly unhappy with the test not only because of how important and hard it might be, but because it was a test and those were simply his natural enemy.

Aqua green eyes strayed towards the voice of her roommate, permeating the involuntary bubble she'd put herself in while she reviewed. "It's still worth a shot to try, Ei-san. You probably don't want to end up like me, repeating a year." While Ren disliked the fact she'd failed and had to repeat, she wasn't someone who tried to hide it. She never once thought she was smart. She already felt like she hid too many things; unlike many within the classroom, by nature she was someone who preferred things out in the open. It was only her desperation in passing the school that she'd resorted to such things. "I have notes I can lend you, since I brought my reviewer from last year as well."
She undid the ponytail of her hair, using the purple length as an excuse to keep her hands busy in an effort to hide her nervousness. Written in code was a cheat sheet in her desk, but she vowed not to use it unless absolutely necessary. "Ichi-kun, you look as calm as ever." A thick side braid was forming as her fingers deftly weaved the strands together. "Are you that confident?"
That was about an hour ago, which was to say, two hours before the exam would begin and therefore, outside the jurisdiction of any nearby teachers. The only ones around only cared enough to give him a glance before shrugging off his existence. Most of them wrote him off as some sort of creeper so it was not skin off of Sanada's teeth. In fact, it made raking in several thousand yen and five hundred credits much easier (although it didn't matter much considering that he hoarded credits like a mad man). He needed only focus on the assignment ahead of him and the fact that through all of his shenanigans, he hadn't studied for the exam as hard as he should have.
Instead he took to scrawling code on the underside of his forearm (thank goodness for long sleeved jackets) while simultaneously glancing around the room at the other flunkies that he was stuck with. Most of them were too poor to afford his prices and a few flat out refused to pass using dishonest methods, but there were seven others (three of whom didn't actually matter) who stuck out due to their reputations. There was his roommate, Ryoko-chan who he waved to (even if she likely didn't enjoy his presence too much). Then there was the other below average intelligent*, Audrey. Unlike Ryoko, their relationship was well established as hatred on one side and mild amusement on the other. He wasn't really sure what earned him the title of "hated" by the young man but he didn't think too much about it since he'd likely be stuck in the school longer than anyone else in the room. This wasn't the American school system after all, you actually had to try.
Moving on was his favorite flunker, Miyuki Ren. She'd addressed Audrey which might have earned a twinge of jealousy (who wouldn't be when she had the body of a pop star?) were he lost in his own train of thought. Moreover, he considered her one of his few friends that saw this school for what it was: an opportunity.
"Ichi-kun, you look as calm as ever. Are you that confident?"
He glanced up and smirked, using the Sneaky Sanada Smirkβ’ that either projected assurance or the prospect of a new scheme. He was always confident, even when he wasn't.
"Of course Miyuki-chan," he replied, "if I was looking to fail I wouldn't have showed up in the first place."
Then again if he was looking to fail he would have changed his name to Aaron Audrey.
*Despite this being true on an objective level he still respects Ryoko unlike some others who will be named shortly

After handing out the pastries, Nobuhiro proceeded to deal with the matter at hand, the final exams. Since he was fairly busy during the finals, it wasn't often that the principal himself would personally serve as a class' proctor. However, since a certain teacher had other important matters to attend to, the man was left with no other choice. With the test papers, food, and other necessities shoved inside the brown satchel, Nobuhiro made his way to his assigned classroom, arriving 30 minutes before the exams officially start.
Upon placing his bag beneath the desk, Nobuhiro glanced at the students, "Good morning." He greeted with a smile. "Well then, since we have a bit more time before we start, I'd like to discuss some things. Hopefully, it will help you have an insight on what's going to be included in the exams. Is it alright with you, or would you prefer to use the remaining time to review by yourselves?"
He watched Koizumi leave and observed her as she popped into just about every conversation in the room, making jokes or adding her point of view. If he had been in a shojo anime, he probably would have admired her charisma, but he wasn't, and he honestly couldn't care less about whether or not he had charisma. It wasn't like his schoolmates ever really wanted to talk to him anyways.
Kei spent the remaining time on his phone, reading over a number of texts from his parents about passing finals. Apparently, if he didn't graduate that year, he wasn't going to be allowed home. That idea almost confused him, seeing as he wouldn't be allowed to even leave the school at all if he didn't pass. He didn't bother responding to the messages and turned to playing phone games.
By the time Tooru-sensei came into the room, half the class was either panicking or giving up. It was pretty pathetic, Kei thought. Those who had been conversing with one another returned to their seats and the room finally quieted. It seemed everyone was wondering what would happen next, even though almost everyone already knew. There was a tense atmosphere in the room and it didn't help the mood at all, not that much could make the concept of final exams much more enthusiastic than it already was.
Ryo stood and hopped to the back of the classroom, situating herself on top of the empty desk next to her friend and smiling. "Hey Sawamura, do you think we'll be able to win the Spring Tournament? It'll be the last competition before we graduate, so it'd be so cool if we won." The topic of volleyball caught only a sliver of the boy's interest, but it was enough, and Ryo continued to chat on and on about the sport in their usual one-sided conversation. Sawamura only offered a few words here and there. Ryo didn't mind.
After a couple minutes Ryoko moved on from her friend and hopped over to say hi to Ren, playfully twirling the girl's hair around her finger and making a joke about Ren being the 'Goddess of the Plums' before lightly punching Ichinose in the arm. Aaron's arm got a much harder punch as Ryo moved on towards Yoshie, who was sitting by herself. "Good morning, Yoi-chan~" Smiling wide, Ryoko folded her arms behind her back and leaned against Yoshie's desk. She chatted to her friend about volleyball, video games, food and other things. Ryo noticed when the girl's stomach growled. "Did you skip breakfast or something? It's test day, you can't do that!" Making a pouty face, Ryo waved her finger in Yoshie's face and walked back over to her own desk, fishing a protein bar from her bag and tossing it to Yoshie as she walked back over. "Good thing I always have these with me, eh? Make sure you eat."
Tooru-sensei walked in then, and Ryo waved to Yoshie before returning to her desk, listening intently to what the man said. 'Hm, a review would probably be best for everyone, since then maybe we won't all be so nervous.' Ryoko kept her thoughts to herself.

Koizumi came by their group, her joke bringing a chuckle out of the older girl. She didn't stick around for long, going over to Yoshie after giving the two boys a light taste of her fist. Her fingers went back to her hair, adjusting the part Koizumi had teased while her face held an amused smile. "Koi-chan certainly gets around, although I'm under the impression she's not very fond of either of you."
Their proctor finally arrived, and everyone rushed to their seats as a tense silence descended upon the room. With Tooru-sensei here, the fact that they were about to take an exam that would decide whether or not they would graduate was solidified. When no one decided to answer, Ren raised her hand and spoke as she was acknowledged. "I think a review would be much appreciated; it's an easy matter for those uninterested to tune it out." She wanted that review as she felt that she'd reached the limits of self-study. "Those who'd prefer to self-study can move to the back of the class until testing."

Yoshie sat at her desk, listening to the tick of the clock. She had decided to make a song out of the mechanical ticking and started tap her finger on her desk as the ideal chatter in th background faded into murmurs, then to nothing. "Maybe I should've studied for at least a bit, I did bust my ass off for these credits," Yoshie sighed in harmony with her growling stomach, her mother had told her eating before a test was important. I should've taken her advice since she's usually always right." Yoshie thought complaining would make negative energy enter her body thus expelling any trace of hunger, if only things were that easy.
"Good morning, Yoi-Chan~ A feminine and familiar voice broke her concentration on the beat of the clock and the thoughts of impending doom and starving to death during the test. Yoshie looked up to see Ryoko leaning onto her desk, ready to strike up conversation. Of course, Yoshie wasn't going to turn down the offer to chat-that'd be rude of her. Ryoko went on about volleyball, video games, food, and other miscellaneous topics, while Yoshie was mostly interested in discussing food and other delicacies, she went back and forth with the other topics just to be polite until her growling broke the flow of conversation. Did you skip breakfast or something? It's test day, you can't do that!" Yoshie felt like she was being scolded by her mother until Ryoko put on a pout. It made her look like a puppy and it was kind of cute. Though Yoshie would never say that out loud. Before she had a chance to respond, Ryoko was already retreating to her desk. Good thing I always have these with me, eh? Make sure you eat!" A protein bar was tossed her way, and luckily she caught it.
Yoshie didn't get the chance to thank Ryoko since the teacher had entered and they all had to take their seats, but hopefully the way she ate the protein was enough thanks. As usual, Tooru-sensei made an awkward entrance, but that was an everyday occurrence. "Hopefully he gives us a study guide of some sort, it'll help ease the anxiety." Yoshie thought to herself as she munched on her God sent protein bar.
