Papua New Guinea is approximately 463,000 square kilometers in area. The total human population before the Ignition was approximately 6,800,000, which has now decreased to about 4,500,000. About 1/3 of the current population is literate.
The population of Papua New Guinea boasts huge diversity in both ethnicity and beliefs. Many people from the surrounding areas immigrated to PNG because of the plantation jobs. This is one of the few areas in the world where someone would be able to hold down a job; as such, the quality of life is slightly better than in other areas, and the economy is thriving.
The average temperature in Papua New Guinea is 37.7 degrees Celsius. Even though the climate is humid, excessive water loss is a large concern because this temperature is above human body temperature. Temperatures in the highlands of PNG can get down to 25 degrees Celsius.
There is no electricity or running water available in Papua New Guinea. Most travel is done by foot.
