"I'll find him, and when I do, we're getting married."
Gold has a very snobbish outlook on life. Since she was born in the lap of luxury, she'd never want for anything in her life. She normally has a cheerful disposition, hiding a smug outlook on life. She believes that she is better than most and views her thievery as a game that she can only excel at. She loves talking to strangers and making men fall in love with her, giving her whatever she wants, and then stealing whatever they have left. When confronted with anger, she has one of two ways to play it out. The first is to play the innocent blond noble girl that wouldn't do a sour thing in her life, the second to manipulate and twist the words of her accuser to make it seem they are the bad person. When drunk she can get very cuddly and sappy, while at the same time is prone to severe mood swings when under the influence.
She has a superiority complex and enjoys confrontation and being challenged. She likes being told what to do and then not doing it. She enjoys getting in trouble almost as much as getting others in trouble. She'd steal the seat under you if she thinks she could get away with it, while making you think you never had one to begin with.
Under her complex exterior though is just a simple girl who doesn't trust people. She fears being hurt more than anything, so she'll always keep a person at arms length. Except for one, which is why she is on her journey.
Basic leather armor covers most of her body, while her weapons of choice are all small and incredibly effective. She has several small knives all over her body in various spots. She has a small assortment of poisons and sedatives in a secured box kept on her hip at all times. She can throw her small knives with startling accuracy and she couldn't be more effective with a sword. She has an incredible memory on almost everything she's seen and can remember everything in vivid detail. She has a vast knowledge of herbology and astronomy. She remedies her allies at times, works as the navigator in her outings and will always know which plants are edible or not. She is basically a very useful person.
Almariah Vahn Dissentin was born to Edward and Candace Vahn Dissentin in the middle of summer. The day she was born, there was a devastating thunder storm that ended a three year drought, but destroyed the towns crops, several buildings, and live stock. The town was not sure whether to view this as a blessing or an omen. She was taught the basics of a lady, basics in mathematics, reading, writing, and literature. She excelled in herbology, chemistry, and astrology. She was thought of as a prodigy in her own town.
She was very close with her father growing up, he taught her to fish and to throw darts. They had always been incredibly close and she cherished their relationship. but as she neared the age of seven, he began to get ill. At first it was just headaches and vomiting spells, but it grew much much worse and eventually he died of a heart attack induced by the stress on his own body. Her mother remarried a man named Gilbert and he became the lord of their land. And he disliked Almirah from the first time her set eyes on her. He viewed her as marriage stock, to be given to the highest bidder as soon as she turned of age.
At the age of eleven, she woke up one day and found her mother gone. Her boat was gone and she was no where to be found. She was left in custody of Gilbert, who treated her with indifference which grew of hatred. He would send her away for looking him in the eye, or making too much noise while he was reading. Gilbert left all management to the estate to the gamekeeper, who hired a man named Mave when Almirah was seventeen.
Closing in on her birthday was terrible, she recognized it as her auction date to the disgusting men of the higher nobility. She would go out to the lake and sit on the rock she had fished off with her father, where her mother had abandoned her and just stare out on the water. One time, she heard, 'What are you doing out here, Goldilocks? Isn't it past your bedtime?' She turned to see the new stable hand, shirtless, with a bucket in one hand.
She made a grunt and turned back to the water. And that was the beginning of their very odd relationship. He would insult her and she would do it right back, he'd challenge her to swim out to the island in the middle of the lake and she would say she'd make it before he could. And she didn't, but she never stopped trying. He taught her how to throw knives, how to walk without being heard, and how to see in the dark without your eyes. He was her best friend, her only friend.
The eve of her eighteenth birthday, she lay awake in her bed. Gilbert had invited all her bidders to her birthday party the following afternoon, he was ready to get rid of her. She heard a thump from somewhere in the house and she walked down the hall in her dressing gown, moving silently toward the noise, it was coming from Gilbert's study. She turned and saw Mave, shoving all of Gilbert's money and jewels from his safe into a rucksack. Her breath caught in her throat, and he turned. Within seconds he pressed her against the wall, faces inches apart, the only thing separating their lips was his finger pressed against them, shushing her.
"Don't." he whispered. Her eyes searched his for a moment and her breath hitched as she felt the sharp cold point of steel press against the hollow of her throat. "Don't." he repeated. She nodded and he released her and went back to his plundering. She stood still and watched him taking everything. She watched him as he stood and went to walk away and she stepped forward, "Take me with you." She whispered and he stopped and looked at her, smiled and bent his head down, placing a warm kiss on her mouth. He broke away and whispered, "Come find me, if you can." and then he was gone. Took off down the hall and out the door.
Heart thumping loudly in her chest, her mind raced. He'd taken everything Gilbert had. All of it, anything worth of any value. Except her. A smile crept into her mouth, and she was gone, too.
