If you've been privy to Amaris' baby pictures, since she does still have access to them as she stole one of her birth mother's photo albums, you would know that Amaris has naturally curly and black hair, not the "[insert derogatory term used for African-Americans by white slaveowners] hair," as her birth mother used to lament that she herself had while her daughter had what was considered "good hair." Amaris has never thought she had good hair; she just had hair, like every other child, and so she has never actually felt ashamed of her hair texture. She just liked using protective styles for her hair, particularly because her adoptive mother used to perm her hair until Amaris was fifteen and Amaris was old enough to tell her that that was no longer an option. Up until junior year of college then, she had rocked sew-ins that typically ranged between brown, ombre, and full on honey blonde that looked and felt so natural most assumed that it was her natural hair until those moments in between weave installments where she would either have her hair straightened to whatever length it was at the time or had her curls pinned to the top of her head. However, just before the last first semester of her undergraduate career, Amaris deemed her own hair ready to be released to the world, as it had grown to a length much like her typicall sew-ins. She likes it much better now because it makes her look more sophisticated, older in a way.

Amaris is a realist and she will stand by that title until the end of time. Because she is a realist, Amaris will keep it quite frank with you - she's fat. There's no sugarcoating it, no need for choosing a much more "politically-correct" (mind you, she hates the term "politically-correct" for its bourgeiise connotations and she has an entire speech planned out as to the other reason why it's a horrible term) term as there really is none. At the end of the day, she is fat and knows that she damn well makes the word look good. She is the actual definition of voluptuous since it's definitely not what those rich Instagram girls tell you it is with their fake asses, fake boobs, botox, and plumping creams. And she's perfectly fine with that - has been since understood that genetically, she has always been meant to be the thicker friend, the fat one. What one would be remiss to say is that her plumpness takes away from her attractiveness because that is simply not true. One thing to pay attention to is that for a woman her weight and height, it is evident that Amaris puts in the effort to care for her body. In the last year, she has definitely toned up a little, which attributes to a slightly smaller waist line and strong calves. Her arms are definitely smaller in bulk that petty bitches would tell you and her thighs, while thick, are soft and luscious. Amaris is curvy. She likes how round and perky her butt is, how full her bust can be (even though, as most large-chested women are, she can get annoyed with bras and the boobs in general), and she's perfectly fine with her stomach because she puts work into it and knows that she is what she is. That there is nothing to be ashamed of. More than that, she has never been a sloppy fat girl, if she would say so herself. Which she would definitely be the first to tell you. Her curves have never been unsightly and she loves every dip and valley on her body. Amaris has always been able to say that she never had an acne problem and with water being her main drink, her skin has always been rather smooth and blemish free with cinnamon-colored freckles being most prominent on her cheeks and across her nose. In fact, those same freckles she hates are the same ones people claim make her seem more younger, innocent. Pretty. That's one thing Amaris has heard her entire life. "You're awfully pretty for a fat girl," a friend would say. Or "damn, you've really got it going on for...ya know, a girl your size." Which is highly undeniable when you've got those warm brown eyes (that don't need no extra tweaking with makeup to almond-shaped, unlike some girls) with gold flecks like Amaris has, naturally plump and kissably-soft lips, high cheekbones on a rather rounded face, and curves for days. However, as much of a realist as she is, even Amaris would tell you that pretty is too one-dimensional of a term for her. Why not be sexy? Irresistible? Stunning? All of which she knows for a fact that she is.

S T Y L E

Amaris' style is fashion and since fashion changes every single day, Amaris seeks to retain a timeless elegance even with her more casual outfits. To put it plainly, she likes looking good and people can make comments about her weight and build all day, but even they cannot ever say that she does not look good. Because she does, every single day that she can. When she was much younger and still living in The Bayou of Louisiana, there was no mistaking Amaris' socio-economic background. However, she had a neighbor who was exceptional at a needle and thread, Amaris found money to give, and she'd at least be able to look as presentable as she could during those earlier years. So, when she moved in with her adoptive parents, she still had a penchant for looking good - she just had more access to brands as opposed to hand-me-downs. Her style has even improved more now that she pays for mostly her own clothing as opposed to having her adoptive parents spend money on her, thus enabling her to choose for herself when, before, she had to deal with them telling themselves that they knew how to dress her. More specifically, how to dress her frame. Which only Amaris knows how to do and do well. While her adoptive parents thought she needed looser fitting clothes, Amaris does not shy away from bodycon dresses or bodycon skirt and top sets beneath her blazers and jackets as she knows what it means to be tasteful. She does not hesitate in wearing crop tops over high-waisted jeans with strappy heels. All because she knows her body and knows what looks good on it. And if it just so happens that, unlike the stereotypical Theta Chi sweetie, she happens to have a few luxury designer brands (all mostly on discount from her various online retailers and even coupons she has been able to gather, not to mention the occasional gift from her adoptive parents) like Gianvito Rossi, Givenchy, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen, well, it's not like it's really anyone else's business but her own.

She has been diagnosed with a caffeine addiction and must have at least two cups a day in the largest size or else she will start having withdrawn. Headaches, fatigue, anxiety, a lot of irritability, a depressed mood, difficulty concentrating โœฆ She stress cleans. Even when she was younger and lviing with her birth mother, when times would become quite stressful or she couldn't figure something out, she would clean and be very efficient about it. The piney scent somehow soothes her and it's rare to see her room in a disarray because of this. Others say that she's OCD but Amaris doesn't acknowledge this. โœง Has an obsession with sticky notes and always has them on her person. She keeps them in several different colors to put down on certain pages in text books or on particular files to make sure that knows what she's coming back to and she has a color system so that she doesn't get confused. โœฆ Speaks rather "proper" and without a hint of an accent most of the time, but when she's particularly angry, her Southern accent comes out and since it's a mix of both Alabama and Louisiana, not many people can tell which state she's from. Which is the entire point. โœง Can always pin a face to a name. Something she was forced to do when residing with her birth mother. So, nine times out of ten, if Amaris is saying that she doesn't remember you, she's more than likely being a bitch. โœฆ Feels absolutely bare without her Chanel Nยฐ5 Perfume โœง Always carries at least one-hundred dollars on her person in case she sees homeless people on the street.

G R E A T E S TXJ O Y S

The Thetas: Before pledging and even before just coming to Fulton, Amaris has never really had a family. She's lived with a drunk and somewhat abusive mother, gotten minor assistance from a deadbeat father, and then lived with lying "business people." To say that none of those instances can be classified as familial is an understatement. And so, when she says that she loves the Thetas, Amaris isn't saying it because she's predisposed to saying it. It's because she genuinely feels this. They're her sisters; they remind her to take a break and relax every now and then, they go on trips together, and she even takes the time to cook for these girls. They've been more of a family than anyone else in this world has ever been. โœฆ Helping People: Say what you will about Amaris - that she's only trying to become a lawyer to build her own wealth and to build up her own self, but the truth is that she just wants to help. To be that voice and beacon for that mother who just wants to protect her kids from the man beating on her, or the big sister fighting for her younger siblings because she knows that that girl deserves custody of them over their deadbeat parents. Amaris knows how it feels to need someone to come to her rescue, didn't really get it since she had to fight for herself, and wants to do for someone what others didn't do for her. โœง Coffee: More specifically, since she's finally found her favorite blend, Lavazza's Intenso Dark Roast. Considering she's a caffeine addict, of course coffee brings Amaris so much joy and it's just because the caffeine interacts with her brain and all that. Literally the smell of coffee first thing in the morning is comforting and the warmth is soothing. She can't go a day without coffee. โœฆ Doing for herself: Of course, being treated every now and then is wonderful, sure, but there's nothing like when Amaris can afford to pay for those pairs of shoes she's been eyeing or that dress that she's known for the longest while was going to look good on her. It makes her feel good...like she can distance herself from that little girl that she used to be.

G R E A T E S TXF E A R S

Letting her guard down: While her Theta sisters might see a softer side to her, there's no denying that there's still a wall between them and all that Amaris is. She erected that when she was ten years old and put into the foster system, and just the idea of allowing herself to be as vulnerable as she was back then is terrifying. She was weak then, weak and poor and needed someone to come and rescue her. And she hated it. So, getting herself to that point with any one person, let alone multiple people, is not something she's ready for. โœฆ Never amounting to anything: Because if Amaris does not succeed, then she's back to where she started. If she doesn't get into law school and work with a firm, then she's literally better off going back to New Orleans because she doesn't think she can handle having to reinvent herself again for another shot at something more. She doesn't want to be that "fat, ugly, black bitch" her birth mother called her the last time they had a conversation face-to-face that did nothing more than put on the many faces needed to get as far as she has. She wants to actually feel like she belongs here, there - anywhere that she has worked her ass off to get to.

If there is one person that you might not ever catch slipping, it's Amaris Hamilton. From the second she stepped onto Fulton University's campus and caught the eye of a Theta Chi representative, it was obvious that she would in no way conform to the stereotypical mannerisms of the Theta Chi sweetie pies. In fact, if you ask Amaris, she's not conforming for no one and especially not any time soon. One look at Amaris and it seems as though she has it all figured out from her what appears to be salon-styled hair (though, make no mistake - with her As I Am hair products along with a wicked flat iron, she'll have you thinking she stepped fresh out of a salon even if she actually can afford to go and abstains from doing so) and down to her immaculate Steve Madden shoes (that she hustled out of a discount). And, from that outside perspective and maybe in the eyes of those around her, she actually does have everything together. After all, she's a neurotic control freak - an insecure one at that, but that's not what matters and you would hardly be able to tell that even if you told yourself that you knew her the best. The point is that Amaris thrives on appearances - on perfection - and she wouldn't have it any other way. Which is why she has perfected her social skills, resulting in a well-formulated and precise rhetoric coupled with an icy charm and an easy-going smile that sublimates the occasional appearance of a Southern twang and use of colloquialism that she pretends doesn't exist. So what if it seems like she could care less about the plethora of haters and admirers whispering behind her back because she's not meekly surrendering to the dominant aura of Alphas or allowing anyone to talk to her any sort of way simply because of their expectations? The point is that she seems a certain way and that's fine with her. After all, she is in control of the image she has put out there now , in control of your opinion of her, and that is all that matters. Hell, because of the confidence she exudes and the naturally unbothered, hold-my-head-high-before-you-haters disposition, you would think this extremely intelligent and ambitious young woman was an Alpha. And her answer would be that she's not; she's something better.

And perhaps that's a bit of a self-righteousness within her that lays dormant, unexposed much like the rest of who she is and what she comes from. Because that's the big thing about Amaris: no one has a particularly concrete, raw perception of her. The most that anyone knows of her is what she allows them to, like the fact that she has parents in Alabama and that she just doesn't want to go home because that's boring. Which is a bit of the truth, but not the entire truth. Amaris has built up several walls around herself and you might be able to tell yourself that you've jumped over one only to find that there is another one whose foundation is constructed of iron. Let's be clear - Amaris is not cold, unfeeling, and mean. She has a bite and she will never deny that. Whether it's because she's simply a rather witty young woman who is always ready to exchange banter or because she's simply keeping things from getting personal, the answer is truly up to whatever you want to think it is, but the truth is that she's not some mean girl who happened to make it into the nicest sorority on campus. As her sisters and those who call her a friend would tell you, Amaris may hide her feelings for you behind unimpressed eye rolls and light smirks, but she's one of the most loyal and secretly loving people you will ever meet. She's one of the few people you can trust with private information, someone you can trust to be in charge without taking their power for granted, and can get things done. Needless to say, a lot of fundraising and connections were established when Amaris started her journey to presidency last year and it's no secret that her charm and hospitality are two of the reasons why she served as Fulton University Homecoming queen last year. To some, she's taken on the maternal role a much younger version of herself only dreamed of having; she cooks a lot of the meals (albeit, they usually are within her dietary restrictions), she's always ready to spit fire and even lay hands in defense of those she cares about, and Amaris dishes out affection depending on the situation. She is critical and not easily impressed, that much is certain. She walks with an indomitable air of confidence that borders on vanity, sure. She's usually quite sure of being the brightest and most hardworking mind in the room, you can't deny that. Yet and still, there's something redeeming about a person who will turn on that near iciness and callousness onto another being just for your sake. Or show up to your room with baked treats and a warm smile, with just a little pragmatic advice that she gives just before forcing you to go on a Netflix binge.

What most people fail to see, though, is that Amaris has all of her negative traits because she had to develop them. She was born into a disadvantage and for half of her life, she grew up in that disadvantage. She wore several different places if they warranted her different outcomes. She's worn the understanding daughter who wiped vomit away from a drunken mother's mouth so that she wouldn't have to face a verbal assault, sat patiently to a deadbeat father's mansplaining and tears just so that she could get money that would never pay her back for all the years and mental abuse that landed her in the foster system, the crocodile tears and helpless baby to get into the foster system so that the abuse could stop, and so many more just to feel like she belonged with the family that chose her. And that's the thing - Amaris wants to choose this time around. She never got to choose what she wanted other than in the minuscule things such as possibly that dress her adoptive mother would buy her, and she is adamant about choosing her future. Her destiny. Making the choice to have a life where she's happy and she's getting what she deserves. And not feeling used and abused. So, yes, she'll be a damn good perfectionist who works her ass off for what she wants and sure, that means that she has to uphold a certain image of herself. Has to deny herself a sign of vulnerability and allowing others to see the insecurities and hurt that she has welled up inside of her. All because she may not think she's really as gorgeous as she'd tell you all she is, but that she damn sure deserves better than what she's been given.

"Believe it or not, I had always wanted to join a sorority. I used to be on the step-team at my high school and we met so many different organizations, so my goal had always been to join a historically black sorority. Obviously, I didn't go to an HBCU and Fulton doesn't have those, so I almost decided against it because I was specifically going for the culture of those Greek organizations. However, the group I fell in love with are my Theta Chi sweetie pies and I've never regretted that decision. It helps that there are so many lawyers, politicians and even doctors who are chapter members, but the girls I have met are literally the loves of my life. I don't save up money to go with a set of girls, including my Kappa guys, on a cruise just because, after all."

While the rivalry between the Greek life organizations make Amaris roll her eyes, she does have a lot of love for the friendships she has formed, particularly within the Theta Chi sister hood and the corresponding relationship with the Kappas.

"My next plan, as I have been talking about with my counselors since high school, has always been law school. I didn't spend all this time studying law and becoming as involved in the field as I have been to not attend law school, and I took the LSAT back in September. It was a 176, if anyone's asking, which sucks in a sense because I really wanted the highest score you can get. At the same time, I'll be proud because I worked my ass off day and night to study, reading whenever I could and getting friends to quiz me on information. Nick and I already talked about moving to California together so Stanford's been where I've set my eyes on, but there's no denying that if Harvard accepts me, I'm going. One of my counselors, though, apparently got Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, which is weird because I never even know it was an option, but I'm applying."

As far as Amaris is concerned, she's undoubtedly attending a law school once graduating from Fulton, preferably at either Stanford University or Harvard University, and then she'll hopefully be able to work with as a criminal defense lawyer. The number one goal is to gain a large enough clientele that she can own her own law firm because as much as she understands that partnering with a firm is realistic and doable, Amaris wants to own her own and be on her dime.

What Amaris' background, if she were to give you the full and unedited version of it that is, would tell you is that if this girl is anything, it is smart and strong. Definitely a fighter because only those with the strongest of willpower can get out of a situation like hers and not be broken by it, like she hasn't allowed it to do. There was no positive start for her, if we are being completely honest. No beginning that consisted of both of her parents being together, there being some stability that was shattered upon some unexpected tragedy, and there are scarcely any happy memories that consisted of either of her parents. Terry-Ann and Francois were both relatively well-off kids at one point. Neither of them had come from much money, but what they had both had, their families had made it work. Granted, his family had more wealth than hers, but when you tell yourself that you're going to become a musician in a city filled with musicians from birth band streets brimming with art, it's really hard for anyone to believe that you're really going anywhere special. Especially when your parents had at least thought that you could make it as a teacher, considering how well he commanded the attention of those younger than him and succeeded really well in school. Even Terry-Ann, for all of her wild girl tendencies, had something to be proud of as her mathematical and problem-solving skills had been phenomenal in those younger years. They could have made her something...if she hadn't followed in her own father's footsteps and turned to alcohol to drown out everyone else's expectations. Or, more importantly, fallen under the illusion that was Francois. He had come off as slightly older and being a member of and up-and-coming band that was eventually going to go on tour, they had said. And she ate it up. Came to every live performance on the French Quarter and at various bars, had kick-back acoustic sessions as various homes, and even more-so fell for Francois' charm. The two of them were never in love, but it didn't stop them from falling into bed with one another several times. But his obsession with chasing a limelight that was never meant to be his and her own obsession with the Hennessy bottle would be what kept them apart. And it would be those nine months that followed that kept Terry-Ann shackled to Louisiana while Francois went about his business, never knowing about the little girl he helped create.

Of all of her parents, Amaris is loathe to admit anything about Terry-Ann other than the fact that she had given birth to her. Terry-Ann never fed her breast milk because she drank as much alcohol as she could the second she had been informed that it was technically okay, as long as she wasn't planning on breast-feeding. What Amaris will admit is that she appreciates that Terry-Ann cared for as much as she could, in a sense, if you call leaving your child in the care of your next door neighbor of your apartment complex the best you could do while you went off as if you were still 21. A lot of Amaris' fonder memories consist of jazz and blues players in the French quarter playing the saxophone to the tempo of heavy feet along the cobblestone, powdered sugar getting stuck up her nose from the big bite of the freshly prepared beignet she had bitten into, grooving into a lindy hop during the Fleur De Lindy, and using the big spoon to stir the huge pot of seafood gumbo her neighbor, Mama Bartee, taught her how to make during one of their many after school cooking lessons. But those, despite how much she would love to return to the lively city, can't fully overshadow the memories of being locked out of their apartment because Amaris had come home late from the library for doing her homework instead of immediately returning to start the dinner Terry-Ann didn't want to make. The constant leers from the men her mother brought to their apartment instead of doing their business in the streets, forcing Amaris to lock her door and eat her stress away or hide away at Mrs. Bartee's. The ridicule from Terry-Ann for her subsequent weight gain and the fact that by nine, Amaris was first starting her period and gaining a "fat enough ass that they both could make money off of." There had always been police intervention at some point, enough so that Amaris was teased during school - when she could attend - because of Terry-Ann's drinking. Public nudity, public intoxication (which said something serious in a city where whiskey was passed as commonly as water), and the occasionally verbal outbursts. Most directed at Amaris and others, rarely, at Mrs. Bartee for being too nice or Terry-Ann being bitter. Amaris had long since dispelled the naive idea that her mother would one day become an actual mother, but it was one particular night when she had thrown a glass bottle at Amaris that sealed the deal. To this day, she shuts all the way down and shuts you out if you mention the permanent scar on her right ear from where the glass had cut her deeply and had bled for as long as she had cried. It was also the night she had decided that she needed to get out of that house. Mrs. Bartee had done all that she can, but no one had ever come to Amaris' rescue. Police had known she was an endangerment, but it wasn't like Terry-Ann was bad every single day. That her drinking was a particular problem every day. Sometimes she was too passed out. And Amaris had had a roof over her head yet, food to be cooked in the house, etc. But she had realized that the only one who could truly help her was herself. So, she had to turn on the crocodile tears she had learned to hide behind stony expressions and went to the cops. She exaggerated some of the less spectacular episodes of her mother's alcoholism, like the time she had been trying to get into Amaris' bedroom and had passed out after yelling. Instead, in her story, Terry-Ann had banged on the door and Amaris had feared for her life. She did what she had to do to get out of a bad situation. To survive. And she didn't regret it in the slightest when Terry-Ann was relieved of her parental rights and Amaris was placed in the system.

Image
Amaris had seen her birth father once before getting adopted by the Castillos and it hadn't exactly been some grand first time meeting. Even though she was a ward of the state, Amaris was allowed to attend school still. It was one particular evening when she had walked by a mechanic's shop on the way to an ice cream store with a few of the older orphans when Francois called to her. He had said that he could recognize Terry-Ann's eyes anywhere, asked how she had been and told her that he hadn't even known Amaris existed until four years ago. To which Amaris promptly and bluntly responded by telling him that if he had been any type of man, he would've come then instead of hiding out. And that she was no longer with "that woman" because she was an abusive drunk that he left his only child with. Amaris doesn't waste her time thinking about the tears Francois had shed that day since the interaction had taken up the time she could have gotten back to the orphanage to start her homework, but she did remember being a bit pleased when she hid away the one-hundred dollars he had given her then and there. He didn't try coming for her and as much as little Amaris had hoped that he would, the woman that she is now (albeit, bitterly) acknowledges that she was better off not having interacted much with him. Besides, despite how much of an aversion she seems to have towards returning to the home she has in Alabama, the Castillos were nice. Granted, Amaris didn't think she would have gotten them to pick her over some tiny toothpick of a child if she hadn't put on the tortured big brown eyes routine, but she had gotten them. It was another mask, sure, but it gained her a new home and well, it was a good home. From the beginning, Deborah and Richard were this ideal couple, both in respect to their careers and their passion for one another. There was never a day Amaris didn't see Richard snatching his wife up by the waist and laying a kiss on her that made even Amaris' heart swoon with longing for something like that in her future. Deborah was a really successful coporate lawyer and Richard was a stockbroker who had gotten a really decent job in a growing company a few years back. And once he had drawn up some proposals his employers couldn't ignore because it would gain them a substantial amount of wealth, life had been made for them. However, with Deborah barren due to medications she took at a young age, they could never have a flesh-and-blood-child of their own since Richard didn't want a baby to be born when Deborah was the one who wanted to give birth to his babies. So, they had agreed upon adopting and while she doubts this, they had loved Amaris from afar for awhile. More than that, she was a good...distraction from the government.

You see, as Amaris would soon discover and become disgusted by, Deborah and Rick, along with this 'good company' he had worked for had been fraudulent and laundering money. Of course, it wasn't like they had flat-out told this to Amaris the second she had come into their home. It took years for her piece it all together on her own and Deborah had managed to do a pretty decent job with distracting her from their secrecy. They had bi-weekly nail shop sessions, she filled Amaris' closet up with as much clothes as she could to ward off the unpleasant stirrings of feeling undesirable due to weight she had a hard time accepting as her own, made sure her hair was always together and really influenced the desire for bigger and better within her, and she even got Amaris all the books her little heart could want. Deborah had made her want to become a lawyer with how much Amaris had admired her. And Rick...Rick for a time, made her his own little princess. They planned out her possible future. It wasn't always perfect. Amaris had to paint on smiles during dinner parties or various holiday events so that people didn't know how fat she felt and how much she wanted to dig into an appetizer platter so bad, play nice with kids who complimented her dress while lamenting her unattractiveness in the same breath, and there were so many instances where she had to pretend. But she had sucked it all up because where she was at the time was so much better than where she had been. However, it was during her junior year of high school when she had decided help straighten up Rick's office for him since he had caught the flu that she had discovered some paperwork and Amaris? She may had needed a few summer school sessions to really catch up, but it wasn't long before people realized that she was an exceptional student, particularly a reader. And so it wasn't hard to put two and two together and eventually, she made Deborah and Richard explain the hush hushness of everything. The secrecy, the frequent trips away, the fact that they would have guests over late at night. And even why they adopted her, which was really to make them look good, like a seemingly successful couple who only needed one missing piece in their life. A little girl.

Amaris had been absolutely disgusted. She refused to go into corporate law like Deborah anymore and she worked her ass off to not have to depend on them for much. And when she had gotten accepted into Fulton University on a full-ride since Spelman didn't offer much money because of her parents, it was no longer a competition. She was going to a large university and she was doing for herself. She had immediately found two jobs during her freshman year, built up her resume and got involved with as much as she could, and was even able to get the car that Rick had bought her in her own name. And if people question why she gets reluctant to return to her Alabama home in favor of staying on campus or going with a friend, Amaris politely tells them to mind their goddamn business. As much as she appreciates Deborah and Rick giving her what they gave her, she didn't want to be associated with that. With their lies and their robbing people of their money. Which is why she's so adamant about being a successful criminal defense lawyer. She'll gain her money, sure, but it will be for the right reasons. And she'll actually be able to sleep with herself at night afterwards.

Most people spend Sunday trying to prepare themselves for the droll and unwanted responsibilities that come about come the dreaded Monday morning. They sip their tea, drink that last bit of wine, and lay in bed trying to decide if they're really going to be petty enough to pretend like they're sick in this call to their office, scrounging up every excuse in the book as to why they can't go to work, school, or wherever the daylight happens to take them. However, for the students at Fulton University, instead of the lackadaisical doings of their typical Sunday evenings, the air around campus (and throughout the city) is alive with anticipation as people pre-game and prepare for a night of carefree drinking, dancing, and even drama...

...especially drama, particularly when the Greek life students are involved.

Some students are still in dorms, apartments and houses getting ready for the Guys in Ties & Girls in Pearls event hosted by Fulton's own Greek Life Alumna Association. Girls are just finishing the finishing touches to their hair or just sliding into velvet dresses, lacing up and slipping into heels of various styles. Sipping on glasses of wine or champagne, giggling over their shared excitement over how the night could unfold and the plans they've already made. Maybe even the tipsiness they already have. And guys are fastening on cuff links, straightening up the suits some just got from dry-cleaning or delivered by their favorite tailoring services. Quaffing glasses of scotch or taking shots to the head in preparation for how absolutely trashed they're bound to be by night's end.

Regardless of where everyone is - even those who are known for being rather prompt as opposed to fashionably late - it's bound to be a night of sensuous, luxurious, riveting and possibly even scandalous fun...so just like the Alumna Association asked on twitter, where can we find you?

"Maybe I should just..." Nicholas paused, sighing as he leaned his head against the door to Amaris' bedroom. Most of the other Thetas had already left with the promise of texting Amaris when they arrived. Some were just going out for drinks and something to actually eat before the Guys in Ties & Girls in Pearls event since the most that would be served were hors d'oeuvres. After church service Amaris had grudgingly attended for Nick's sake, they had partaken in a very late lunch at a Cuban restaurant that left them both still relatively full, so they had separated for some wind down time before getting ready. Amaris paused on the bed, her left hand in the jar of As I Am's DOUBLEBUTTERยฎ CREAM, and glanced at the closed door, an eyebrow raised in question that Nick could see without actually being face-to-face with the Theta president. "Maybe I should just change. Ya know, it won't even take that long and not many people'll see me if I just - " Amaris sighed herself before cutting him off. "Let me see," she requested before swiping a bit of the rich emollient onto her fingers so that she could rub into her palm. Nick fought back a whine. "But - " Amaris hurried up with her demand of "Now!" that elicited a groan. Chuckling to herself, Amaris proceeded to liberally apply the cream to her hair, running her covered digits through her curls and coils so that each individual strand received the moisturizing blend of natural butters and organic oils.

While Nick counted to ten into his head before opening the bedroom door and stepping inside, shoulders too tense for his own good and pose too awkward to be comfortable. No matter, though, because once Amaris caught sight of him, she was wearing a wide enough grin that it was hard to ignore the small gap in her two front teeth that she swore up and down - combined with her freckles - didn't make her look as adorable as Nick had once stated. "Hello, Daddy," she purred and Nick glared, exasperated. "Yep, I'm changing," he stated firmly and Amaris was on her feet, though her hands never left her hair. "Okay, okay, I'll stop, Jesus." She rolled her eyes at the uncomfortable hand Nick ran over his hair, hurrying up to get the cream off of her hands and onto her hair so that she could use them. "You look good, babe, I swear." To which he answered with a distrustful glance and retorted, "Yeah, cuz I let you dress me like the dudes you seem to like." Amaris painted on her face a rather insulted expression, placing a hand over her covered chest while the other one grasped a hold of her vibrating cell phone. "Okay, first of all, I resent that. If I was really trying to dress you like any of the guys I like, you just wouldn't have any clothes on, I'm just saying." Nick guffawed at that and offered a "wow" while she seemed to continue as if she didn't hear him at all. "Second, if I let you go back to your room now, you won't come back out and I really don't have time to be owning Fulton any money for a damn door." Which was true. In the four years that they had known one another and been best friends, Nick had obstinately refrained from attending two events and proved that his stubbornness could not be matched, at least not when Amaris actually wanted to go out and was not about to spend the night outside his door trying to convince him that going out was a great idea. "And furthermore, you actually do look good, Nicky. Like, really good. I sent a pic of the clothes to Jenny and Gigi, and they both loved it. I would never set you up."

Nicholas knew this. He had gotten the stamp of approval from both of his little sisters before he had even gotten out of the shower earlier. He also trusted Amaris, particularly with fashion, but with pretty much everything. She had rarely ever steered him wrong. At the same time, it wouldn't be inherently him if he didn't feel self-conscious, nervous. And he had every reason to be. While he admitted that in the last few days, things had slowed down, just a little, between himself and Weston, he hadn't exactly explained to Amaris - who, thankfully, hadn't pressed - why things had slowed down. As much as he knew they probably would share a laugh over his reckless behavior, how comfortable can any one person be with admitting that they had gotten caught getting very comfortable with being on their knees for and in between their boyfriend's legs just as their frat brothers walked into their bedroom? Particularly when said boyfriend-not-boyfriend was Wes, a Beta, and his Big, Hudson, (who already seemed to hate everything that nick was, was the one who caught them. Nick could still feel the mortification welling up within him and it made his shoulders sag from the tension he had entered the room with. Which Amaris noticed but said nothing about as he dropped into a seated position on her bed. "I know, I know," he said finally, shaking his head after at her questioning look to which she nodded in understanding. He wasn't ready to have the conversation and unless it seemed absolutely detrimental to his existence to have the conversation, Amaris wasn't going to force it out of him. "You know how I can get with things like this." Nick rubbed tiredly at his eyes, belatedly recalling that he was wearing contacts instead of his glasses. Amaris smiled softly.

"How about this, babe? I take a pic of you and send it to Eli and Omi. If they text me by the time I'm ready to go and say that they like it, then you know you're good. If not, we'll stop by the house and you can change," she offered and he smiled gratefully. Appeased, Amaris smirked and with the camera already opened on her phone, she snapped a faceless pic to send to the two girls before plugging the phone back up to its charger. "Alright, get out. Mama needs to get ready." She stated and Nick chuckled, chucking one of her smaller pillows at her and hightailing it out of the room before the retaliating pillow could hit him. Still laughing softly to himself, Nick thought about it for a moment before taking a small selfie of his own and proceeding to send a text to Wes, even as his nerves told him that it wasn't a good idea.

To: Wes
Whatcha think?

To: Eli, Omi
Baby boy feels self-conscious. What do you girls think?

Daisy felt like her hair should not still be in rollers this close to leaving the house. If her hair didn't turn out right, she had no time to fix it. But even with the strongest hairspray, her hair could not hold a curl for more than a few hours, so she was praying that leaving them in for as long as possible would do the job. Finishing off her makeup with a spritz of fixing spray, she sighed and decided that it was time. She carefully removed the curlers and flipped her head upside down to shake out the curls. As she flipped upright again, having to grab hold of the corner of her bed to catch her balance, she sighed with relief to find that her hair had, in fact, turned out fine. She ran a brush through it and applied a liberal amount of hairspray, praying that it would hold.

Taking a few selfies of her final outfit, she flopped onto the bed to send the last few texts before going.

To: Archie

Just giving you a head's up, I look positively stunning, so you'd better prepare yourself

To: Yuda, Amaris

Have you left yet? Trying to decide if I'm going to get the shuttle in or just get a taxi

All day, she'd been almost begrudging the event, feeling like she'd much prefer to just stay home and read or watch netflix or something. But now that she was ready to go, she was starting to feel the buzz. She hadn't had anything to drink yet, and it didn't exactly look like she was going to have time to get too much to drink between now and her having to leave. Everybody else was probably going to already be a decent bit of the way to being drunk, if not full on drunk, but since coming to uni, Daisy had been leaning more towards drinking while she was out instead of pregaming. It was an improvement from her high school years of getting drunk at the pregame and continuing to drink while she was out. It had, at least, given her a good alcohol tolerance and resistance to hangovers, but she wasn't up for that any more.

She fired her lipstick into her bag, closely followed by her purse. Her phone, however, stayed in her hand as she fixed the strap of her shoes and waited for a reply from somebody, just to give her some idea of what everyone else was doing.

Location: Kappa House || Danny's Bedroom
Outfit: Black and Grey Suit
Hex Code: #804080

Traffic is a bitch.

This was all Danny had time to think about as he stormed from his car, into the almost empty Kappa house, up the stairs, and to his bedroom. He should have left home early that morning, but his mom wanted him to come to church with the family. Danny could never so no to his mother. He didn't leave Orlando until the afternoon. This would normally be okay, but the traffic had other plans. So here he was, running extremely late for the first major social event of the Greek year. He threw open his closet and pulled out the first suit he saw. It was one of his favorites though, paring a black jacket / pants combination with a grey shirt, black tie, and black collar. He must admit to himself as he peeked in the mirror, he looked "fresh as hell", as he would probably tell Ben later on that night. Danny smiled at himself and peered back into his closet for shoes and a belt. He selected his pointed grey Tom Ford dress shoes with laces and its matching belt. Funny enough, his suit was also Tom Ford. Danny didn't just like to match color and concept wise, but he was typically found wearing outfits that were all the same brand.

He paced his way into the bathroom, wondering why the house was so quiet. He hadn't really talked to anyone all weekend, opting to focus on his family. Nick was probably with Amaris, but where were Ben and Hayden. Danny reached into a drawer and pulled out his favorite cologne: Bleu de Chanel. He sprayed it on his, rubbed it into his hands, and rubbed his hands along the outside of his sleeves. This was his typical cologne routine, just as his father had taught him before his first date. After brushing his teeth, Danny pulled out his phone and shot out a couple of texts.

TO: Nick Reyes
I assume you're with Amaris... tell her she better save me a dance tonight. :)

TO: Hayden
Where you at bro? Just got back, headed to the party in a second! See ya there? You better show!

Danny slipped his phone in his front right pocket and went back to his room to grab his wallet. Just as he grabbed the Versace wallet his father had given him for his 18th birthday, he heard Benjamin's announcement from the lobby, "If you're riding with me, you've got two minutes to get your ass downstairs and into the uber!" Danny hustled out of his room, only stopping to grab a wine cooler from his mini fridge on the way out. He descended the stairs just as Benjamin was shutting the door. He followed him and slid into the car just before it took off. He looked at Ben jokingly, "Way to rush me out the door bro. I hope I didn't forget anything." he laughed as he turned his attention to the people they passed outside of the window. Now that he thought about it, he really hoped he had his Student ID. He pulled his wallet from his back left pocket and smiled with relief when he saw the card in the top slot. Daniel took the down time to send a few more texts between sips of his cherry wine cooler.

TO: Daisy ;)
Headed to the party. You wearing that dress I like? ;)

TO: Eliza แƒฆ
What time will you get to the party? Can't wait to see you! Missed you this weekend!

Danny's standing with both girls was confusing. Him and Eliza (or El as he called her) had been on a few dates, but things had faded over the summer. He had no idea where her head was. Daisy, on the other hand, had always intrigued Danny. He didn't know if there was a serious emotional connection, but he would smash in a second if given the chance. He didn't want to mess up their playful friendship though. While lost in his own thoughts he noticed Ben glancing nervously at his phone over and over again.

"You good bro? Is it YaYa? Danny made sure to place a note of concern in his voice. He didn't like seeing his friend down. You gotta quit being down over that. It's either gonna work or it won't. Whatever happens will be for the best though. I can tell you that. Don't be nervous! I'm pretty sure she's thinking the same you are." Danny smiled at his friend. He really looked up to Ben, so it was weird to be trying to give him advice. But Danny knew the situation between Ben and YaYa and wanted to see it resolved for Ben's sake.

Yuda was stalling the process of getting ready. She had been sitting in front of her vanity for twenty minutes with the intention of at least attempting to look nice but instead settled for a few matches on a mobile card game she had. She sighed upward to blow some loose strands of hair upward and faced herself in the mirror. Usually, she wouldn't attend things like these, but, she knew without a doubt, this one the one event that Amaris would make her attend. She knew better than to try to have her way this time. "It's only one event Yuda, just one." She told herself. "You can just stand around and drink some punch and then, before you know it, it'll be over and you'll be in your nice warm bed ready for the next day.". The mental pep talk didn't do her much good, but the thought of Amaris' anger and Daisy's persistence did. Daisy would probably carry her bridal style out of the house if Yuda didn't decide to go. That image was enough to get Yuda to put on a simple dress with matching heels and of course some pearls just to be funny, I guess. After that little soliloquy, Yuda felt the vibration of the phone tingle to her body. Doing a quick flip motion with her hand, she unlocked her phone and looked at the home screen. "Speaking of the devil." She said to herself.

To: Daisy
Was dealing with the inner turmoil of having to socialize, just slipped into an outfit a minute ago. I'll be catching that cab or shuttle with you btw.

"Now to send out a few texts."

To: Naomi, Amaris, Abigail
Yes, the rumors are true, I will be attending tonight's event. No pictures please.

Yuda stood in front of her mirror to check herself out a bit. She hoped the nude colors and simple looked would do. ITs not like she was trying to make a big entrance or a good first impression or anything. She sighed and sat back down on her bed. She would countinue another few rounds of her card game until somehow got back to her text.

"Holy shit," Nick practically choked on the shot of tequila - hopefully, his only one as he anticipated being the driver for the majority of the night, regardless of how responsible Amaris could be - and fumbled to set his shot glass on the kitchen counter top upright. Amaris' newly painted deep red lips curved into a light smirk, though he detected their uncertainty and nervousness, at his antics...but was this really his fault? Amaris had told him before how at odds she was on what to wear once she had gotten his attire situated, but she usually had things like that for herself under control. So, he had assumed that she would go with the pink number she had picked up on her derail to New York with him over the summer before leaving for Spain for her internship. Definitely not the curve-hugging red number she had sent him a picture of and had been nervous over. Amaris stepped further into the kitchen on strappy red heels, placing her clutch on the kitchen island Nick currently occupied. Nicholas gaped for a few seconds, blinking stupidly. "Mare Bear..." Nick didn't even know what to say and Amaris' brow furrowed slightly.

"Should I...should I change?" She asked, glancing down at the dress and fingering the top of the slit that lay directly above her left knee. The satiny material clung to her waist, revealing how much she had both lost and toned up within the last year. Amaris critiqued her form in the privacy of her room on most days, but even she knew what improvement was and it wasn't just in the physical. As much as she knew other girls would love her weight loss simply because it meant they could really start wearing "skinny girl clothes," she felt better. Healthier and more fit than she had been in her formative years. That didn't mean her self-conscious didn't make an occasional appearance. "Daisy and Yuda are still here, I think, and they wanted a ride. So, I could probably tell them to - " Amaris could understand the befuddlement to her attire. She wasn't typically this daring. She was typically classy, not a prude, but definitely refined in a manner that would not allow her to show off both cleavage and leg. However, as she had been upstairs finishing her makeup and getting her jewelry together, she had figured that it was senior year. She was always going to be the same, but a little difference - a change - during the final year of her undergraduate career was acceptable. At least, she thought so until Nick couldn't seem the verbalize an actual reaction. However, her inquiry about changing prompted him to storm over to her and grab a hold of her wrist. "You are not allowed," Nick insisted vehemently, hurrying up to pour her a shot of tequila and sliding the glass her way. "If I'm not allowed to change, you are definitely not allowed to even think of going back upstairs. Matter of fact, you take that shot and you text them that we're ready to go. I don't trust you right now, like, at all." He muttered something unintelligible under his breath, which made Amaris giggle, but she acquiesced anyway and threw the shot back, wincing at the burn. She had sent a text to both Yuda and Daisy a moment before entering the kitchen, along with a picture of her in the mirror when she first tried the dress on for the evening to Ayala.

To: Yuda, Daisy
Still here in the kitchen. Nick's driving my Volvo. U want a ride?

To: Ya Ya
Mason by Michelle Mason dress for 50% off...what do you think lovely?"

Once the text was sent, Amaris' eyes shot up to her friend, who looked like he was actually considering another shot. Shaking her head and easing the bottle away from his line of sight, Amaris ran a hand over her hair, allowing the dense mass of her natural curls to fall over her shoulders. "So...it's okay?" She asked quietly and Nick deadpanned. "Get the fuck out of my face, Mare. You look stunning." Her beam made him roll his eyes, but Nick smiled softly at her anyway, in encouragement, before he remembered. "Oh, yeah. Danny said you had to save him a dance tonight." Amaris snorted. She had absolutely no idea why these sophomores insisted upon flirting with her, but Danny and Archie in particular, drove her up the wall with their flirtation. It was flattering, of course, but Amaris wasn't trying to remain a perpetual state of pink, damn it! "Tell that boy he better remember when his curfew is. To grow up big and strong, big boys need to go to bed on time." Nick muttered a "Jerk!" as Amaris chuckled at her own joke, wrapping a hand around the neck of the bottle of tequila and looping her fingers into the mouths of the shot glasses. The two glasses were placed inside the empty sink and the tequila back into the cabinet, the faint scent of her Chanel perfume wafting up to Nick's nose as he text out a response.

To: Danny
She said sure. You there?

To: Ben
You at the venue? How's everything?

"If you're gonna have me here and be on your phone, the least you can do is love me on your Instagram," Amaris stated smartly and Nick rolled his eyes before shooting her a look. "You hate social media," he pointed out. Amaris sighed dramatically and saddled up back to his side, pressing into his side so that she could lay a head on his shoulder. "Just be young and dumb with me, damn it." Snorting, Nick pulled up the camera on his phone and held it over their heads to take a selfie while saying, "Just tell your girls to come on so we can go before you really start to get conceited." Amaris only punched him after she was done cheesing for the selfie, waiting for the click of the camera before executing the attack, scooping up her clutch, and then heading for the door of the kitchen while calling out. "Ladies, I'm heading out now if you're coming!"

xxxxxxx"Can we act like we never broke each others hearts?"

Yaya had always been exceedingly good at people watching. Her mother once even went as far as to say that she was named after the timid doe that she had the eyes of a fierce puma. It was on of the reasons why she made such a good writer. She liked to observe the people around her and portray a version of them in her stories. As she walked through the function she couldn't help but watch the people around her, the people she called peers. Some of them laughed among each other while others of them schmoozed amongst the Alumni, charming with them with stories of their achievements and stories of their professors.

Personally she had no interest in either. She had yet to see the people that she chose to associate with and she was in no mood to schmooze with old men who were more interested in staring at her lush lips and young supple breast then they were interested in contributing to furthering her education. She did spot a specific Beta schmoozing, Andre, and with him was none other than Cyrus's father. She felt her eyebrow raise, though she wasn't honestly sure if it was more in judgement or curiosity. She wasn't very well versed in Cyrus's relationship with Andre or his father all she knew was that there was nothing healthy about it. But then again who was she to butt in? Her own mother considered her to be a selfish bitch and was never shy about telling her about it. She shook her head lightly as if she could shake her mother out of her memory and took a sip of her drink. She was on drink two but far from drunk, not that she would embarrass the Alpha's by getting drunk at an Alumni event.

She felt her phone buzz in her hand, five messages. The first two were from Ben, one from Audrey, another from Abigail, and the final one from Amaris. She decided to respond to Audrey first, she tapped her phone quickly to type out a simple "Of course." She was honestly surprised that Audrey wasn't here yet but it made her think that she had something planned and she wasn't sure she wanted to know what it was. Abigail was next and she also received a quick non committal response of "I'm already here." The text from Amaris had a image so she opened it and couldn't help smiling when she sent a response of "You look stunning." She meant it too Amaris looked absolutely amazing in the dress. She opened up Ben's texts last and she felt a smile make it's way on her face. Her fingers tapped quickly on her screen as she typed out "I'm here." but as she was about to send it she spotted Daniel arriving and could only assume that Ben came with him.

She walked through the growing maze of people looking for him. It wasn't obscenely crowded, not like the parties that the greek system crowded, but it felt like she was moving in slow motion as she got around the people that were moving obscenely slow. Just as she made it out of the crowd she saw a passing figure that was unmistakably him. She reached out and caught the sleeve of his jacket just before he walked away and as he turned around she breathed out "I'm already here"

__________________________________
Eliana was already at the Guys in Ties & Girls in Pearls event, having left early enough to arrive right on time with two other senior members of the Zeta Nu Delta sorority. The Zetas had been pregaming for most of the afternoon. Since tonight's party was on a Sunday, it seemed only fitting that they start the party early, to allow for the night to be worthwhile, since they couldn't keep it going until four or five in the morning, like the Zetas were known to do. Eliana and some of the girls had started off the day by spending a few hours at the beach, getting some color and relaxing, before heading to a local favorite casual spot for lunch and some drinks. They kept their buzz alive once they got home and started showering and preparing for the night's festivities, and after the pregame, which entailed copious amounts of pizza, alcohol and other "harmless" drugs, most of the girls were ready for the black tie event they would be attending. People could say what they wanted about the Zetas, but there was no denying that they cleaned up nicely, and as the leader of the pack, Eliana put in special effort to make sure that she proved that the Zetas could look formal and classy, if they felt like it. Unlike the Alphas, and even some of the girls in the other houses, Eliana didn't have parents who handed her a credit card with an unlimited spending limit attached to it. Her mother and grandmother sent her as much money as they could to help her get by, and she worked babysitting jobs a couple of times a week to rake in what she considered to be easy money. Most of that went to food, alcohol, and gas for her car, though, so spending a little bit over two hundred dollars total on her outfit did put a dent in her savings. It was worth it, especially given that she had scored amazing deals at the department store she had purchased her attire at, but still, knowing that she had actually invested in this night meant that Eli was set on having fun.

Once she and a couple of the Zetas got to the party, they found themselves hitting up the bar before anything else. Events like these weren't necessarily out of their league, but having to deal with the Alphas and Betas, who would surely act like this was their turf more than anyone else's, just because it was more their scene and tastes, meant that the Zetas needed to keep their buzz in tact. It was never a struggle for the girls to have a good time when they were together, but still, who could turn down a glass of liquid mood enhancer... just in case? With her back resting against an empty area of the bar, Eliana sent out a mass text message to all of the Zeta members who lived in the house, reading, "If I catch any of you with car keys in your hand if you've even had a sip of alcohol tonight, we're going to have problems! None of my babies are going to land themselves in the hospital or jail on my watch." She put her phone into her clutch just in time to laugh about a comment that Yovanna had made, about how it was easy to pick out which Greek houses the older alumni who were here belonged to, just judging by their mannerisms. Her smile only widened when she saw texts from Archie and Amaris on her phone. Archie deserved a slap to the back of the head for his text, Eliana thought light-heartedly, as she responded to say, "Somehow I think I'll manage ;) Forgot my kiddie gloves at home, so you don't have to worry about any advances from me interfering with the ones from all of your little girlfriends". Her smile towards Amaris' text was more genuine, as she responded playfully to say, "Tell him he looks HANDSOME <3! Shocked that he can clean up so nicely, though, and I guess that means I'm gonna have to keep an eye on all of these players who're going to go after him tonight. And btw... the two of you need to get off of social media and get your asses down here! I don't want to see Instagram versions of this beauty... I want the real thing!"

Almost exactly as Daisy made the decision to venture downstairs in search of human life, she got a text. Seeing it was from Danny, she rolled her eyes to herself and grinned, typing out a quick reply.

To: Danny

You like every dress as long as I'm in it ;)

She sent a picture of her outfit as well. By the time she had that text sent, more had come in. She decided against sitting down though, choosing to just stand where she was as she read the texts and sent replies. She didn't want to crease her dress, and she felt like if she did sit down for any longer than necessary, that would be exactly what would happen. That and she did need to get used to being in heels before she tried doing any proper walking. She'd been in flats all day, even at church with her father that morning. Even if she didn't believe all that much herself, it was important to her father, so she went whenever he asked her to.

To: Yuda

Oh, good, I was just thinking that dragging you out of the house might be a challenge in these shoes. Will update you on travel plans shortly.

To: Abby

Let me see what the other girls are doing and I'll get back to you. Might get a taxi in with Yuda, not sure yet.

She skim-read Amaris' text and shoved her phone into her bag, glancing around the room. Spotting her lipstick and powder, she scooped both up and shoved them into her bag, before casting a final glance in the mirror and deciding that she was, at long last, ready to go. With excellent timing, apparently, because Amaris yelled that she was leaving.

Taking into consideration the fact that she was still getting used to her heels, she made it out of the house in a surprisingly quick time. "I'm here, I'm here!" She declared, running her hands through her hair and mentally chastising herself. Her hair had enough trouble holding a curl without her making it even harder. It was only then that she noticed how good Amaris and Nick looked.

"Damn, you two certainly scrub up well. Amaris, had I known how good you were going to look tonight, I certainly would have stepped up my game. I feel positively plain beside you," she said, grinning. She glanced down at her phone briefly to send a text to Abby.

To: Abby

Going with Amaris and Nick. I'll see you there, though!

"So, yeah, don't get offended if I stay away from you guys. I mean, I know I look good, but if I'm with you guys, I'll be outshone," She added, laughing.

Yuda was just lazing about, as usual, trying to occupy herself for A by while she was waiting for some texts to be returned to her. To her dismay, she couldn't lie down on her bed because she had already gotten ready. Since it was a special occasion, she actually did her hair. It was nothing fancy by any stretch of the imagination but it did require her to rev up her curling iron. She hadn't used that thing since the prehistoric ages so she hoped that it would work at least efficiently if not anything above decent. Yuda also had to grow through her minimal supply of makeup to touch up a bit. Touch up to Yuda meant a coat of lip gloss and very tiny amount of mascara and just a very faint hint of perfume; yes, Yuda did classify perfume as makeup. Yuda sat on her vanity, taping the wood and resting her hand on her chin because the card game she was playing for boring after losing five matches straight. So her she was, waiting for a message back. On the brought side, Yuda would get to see some cute girls. The dark side of it all was actually having to go through the effort of looking nice. Speaking of looking nice, Yuda thought she looked okay, nude dress and heels with a pearl bracelet. Simple and casual, just like her. She hoped that a pearl necklace was enough to satisfy Amaris. If it didn't satisfy the president, Yuda was pretty sure she would let her borrow a necklace or something. Sighing, Yuda began to play with her now curled strands of hair. Her own thoughts were boring her now, but, like an answer to a prayer, Yuda received three messages simultaneously. "Well would you look at me, Mrs Popularity." Yuda said, smiling to herself.

To: Daisy
Judging from Amaris' text you didn't even update me on the travel plans. I'll just assume you'll be hitching a ride with them and meet you downstairs.

To: Amaris
Yea, I'll come with, I'm assuming Daisy's already down there so I'll be down in just a sec.

To: Naomi
Omg, shut up! It'll be useless looking nice just for you because I'm pretty sure you'll be going home with someone else xoxo

To: Abigail
Only wearing something simple so don't overshadow me too much, k? :*

Yuda got up from her vanity, butt numb and walked over to her bed to grab her purse."Lip gloss? Check! She named the items as she dropped them in her bag. "Phone? Check! Wallet just in case because you know how daisy is? Check! Tampons just in case of an emergency? Check! Mints? Check! Tiny bottle of perfume, you know, just in case? Check! And lastly, my Nintendo DS for when the party grinds to a halt? Check! After grocery listing the items that Shen might need for the event, Yuda gave herself one last look in the mirror and fixed herself a bit; looking all around her room for her necessities threw her hair off a bit. She sighed, already ready to head home even if it was just the beginning of the night and headed down stairs to meeting Amaris Nicholas and Daisy.

From the entrance of the kitchen, a sharp left and following the length of the hallway, and Amaris was in the great room of the Theta Chi house, eyes trained on her phone as she began to receive text messages from her babies. She hadn't heard anything from Eliza, which was why she immediately set to text her Little in favor of knowing where the girl was. She had also gotten a text from Eliana, which led to Nick holding the front door open for her (he did it anyway, so it wasn't like she was moving without knowledge of the happenings all around her) and responded to that as well just as they were halfway down the neat brick-lined pathway which was framed by neatly-trimmed green grass on either side. Amaris made a habit of parking across the street from the house, particularly so that her Bentley wouldn't suffer from direct exposure to the sun (nothing to worry about tonight, obviously) when the daytime returned. She was sliding her cell phone back into her clutch just as Nick reached over to grasp her elbow, assisting her in taking the step off the curb. She smiled.

To: Eli
Aren't we? He thinks he's gonna be the sober one tonight and something tells me I'm going to be the one driving us home with all the drinks he'll be offered lol. On our way

To: Liz
How are you getting to the party? It'll be a tight fit, but are you still home? I can give a ride.

"Such a gentleman," she commented quietly, a playful glint in her eyes as she peered over at him from under her long dark lashes and Nick rolled his eyes. "Stop flirting with me," he replied with a raised, daring eyebrow and Amaris chuckled quietly, stopping only when they had arrived at her car and heard Daisy exiting the house as well. While Amaris beamed at the girl's compliment, Nick flushed and hurried to unlock the vehicle, clicking the button and opening the front passenger door for Amaris. "Please, babe, you're a doll," she said, a bit of a response for the both of them since Nick offered a quiet "Thanks!" as he reached through the front passenger side to put the key into the ignition and at least start the car up. Luckily, simply because it was Florida but also because global warming left the night warmer than it typically was this time of the year, they wouldn't have to turn a little heat on. "I figured, since it's senior year, there was no point in not showing off," Amaris continued to explain as Nick moved out of her way so that she could enter the car. Once she was seated and was looking back at her phone (she really should just keep it in hand at this point), he was opening the back passenger side door for Daisy, inquiring loudly so that Amaris could hear from the back, "Is Yuda coming?" Amaris nodded for a second as she set to type out responses to the Theta Chi alumni she knew were already at the venue and Yuda herself. "Yeah, should be coming down now." Once Daisy was in, Nick closed the door for her and as he walked to the driver's side of the car, he pulled his own phone out to see no response from Wes. Which made him frown, a sort of deflation in his mood due to the disappointment and uncertainty he had yet to truly verbalize or confront, but he hurried up to fix his expression and shove his phone back into his pocket in favor of getting inside the car.

To: Yuda
At the car. Parked across the street.

To: Ya Ya
Thanks, love. Though I'm pretty sure you're already there looking like a supermodel and whatnot.

Eliza looked up from her computer screen. She blinked. The time didn't change. How could it be that time already? Eliza sighed and saved her work before spinning her chair away from her screen. She needed to stop doing that; getting so absorbed in her work that she lost her already fragile track of time. Eliza stood and stretched, a groan escaping her body as she arched her back. When she had told her mom about the formal, she had insisted that her daughter was getting a new dress. The whole thing still seemed a bit ridiculous to Eliza. A whole new dress for one night. She looked at the red number. It wasn't what she usually wore, in fact it couldn't be further away from her usual uniform if it tried, but her mom insisted that she looked amazing in it.

Eliza grabbed a quick shower. As she climbed out of the shower, she heard her phone buzz. She picked it up from her desk and saw Danny's name light up the screen. Her heart flipped. No, nooo, bad heart. We do not flip when we see Danny's name. Danny's just a guy, she told herself. Yeah, but he's a cute guy. "Snuffie, my subconscious is a traitor, don't ever get one," she said to the rubber duck on her desk. Eliza opened the text.

From:Danny
What time will you get to the party? Can't wait to see you! Missed you this weekend!

Her heart flipped again as she read the text. This was ridiculous. She dropped the phone onto her bed and began dressing. There was no point texting him right now, she'd just embarrass herself. She liked Danny, there was no denying that. She liked him a lot. But she wasn't one of those girls that could just walk up to a guy and ask where they stand. Eliza was something of a wallflower and she was happy like that, but sometimes, she envied Michaela and Amaris their sky-high confidence. This was one of those times.

When Eliza was sure that she was ready, besides her hair, she grabbed her phone from her bed and text Danny back.

To: Danny
I'm still getting ready. Me and my bad sense of timing. I'll let you know when I'm on my way.

That left her with one thing to figure out. How were they getting there? Sure, she could shout through the house for Amaris and ask her, or she could just text. Amaris would know, she always did. As the thought occurred to her, her phone buzzed again. Danny didn't usually respond that fast.

From:Amaris
How are you getting to the party? It'll be a tight fit, but are you still home? I can give a ride.

To:Amaris
Still here. Lost track of time again. Gimme a minute or so, and I'll be down

Eliza dropped her phone back on her bed and checked her face in the mirror. Acting on her mom's advice, she kept her make up light. 'Let the dress do the talking'. She had a pink tint on her lips and a soft brown shadow swept over her lids. Jesus being a girl was a nightmare sometimes. She swept her hair over her shoulder. Anything more would have been overkill. Eliza studied her reflection for a moment. She looked good. Really good. Smiling with a sense of confidence, as fragile as it was, Eliza skipped downstairs, her heels clicking on the steps as she did.

As she stepped outside, Eliza looked up to see her sisters waiting for her, with Nicholas who was by Amaris's side as usual. She took each of them in. Yuda in pink, Daisy in black and Amaris in a red number that Eliza would never be able to pull off even on her best days. "Sorry I kept you waiting. You guys look amazing. You too Nick."

Blake tapped the steering wheel. Why was there always traffic when he needed to be somewhere? If he was being honest, he'd rather be back home with Rose and Johnny than going to this formal. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy them, they were great if the company was good, but the company back home was better. Blake smiled at the thought of his siblings. Rose was doing great at school, to the point she was making the teachers look inept. Mom was talking about finally moving her to a school for gifted students. Blake had no idea where Rose got her brains from, but he was glad that she had them. Johnny, it turned out, was going to be the family sports star. He'd been accepted onto the school football team and had spent most of the weekend talking Blake's ear off about it, as ten year olds only could. Taking advantage of the stop-start traffic, Blake opened his phone menu and dictated a message to Cyrus.

To:Cyrus
I'm on my way. Traffic is a nightmare, how dare it? Has the apocalypse started without me?

As he finished speaking, the traffic opened up, Blake began to pick up speed as his sleek, black BMW rolled through the late evening. Sure, he might not like his dad, Blake thought as he changed gear, but he was quite happy to spend his money. Mom was the trophy wife, he was the trophy son. Surely the same rules applied? He dictated another message, this time to Amaris.

To:Amaris
You're going to this formal, right? I will be very disappointed if you aren't. There'll be pouty faces and everything

Nick's reaction to her compliment made her laugh a little, but she mostly kept it to herself as to not embarrass him. She raised her eyebrows as he opened her door for him. It was the kind of gesture that a girl never expected, but was still lovely to get. She beamed at him as she climbed into the car. She smoothed down her skirt, before pulling her phone out of her bag and reading the few texts that had come in.

To: Hayden

Of course I'm going to be there! And you look fabulous, I think I may need to offer my services as a bodyguard so you won't be crushed by the crowds of people that will undoubtedly fall in love with you tonight.

To: Archie
You sweetheart <3 should hopefully be there before long!

To: Yuda
My bad :(

To: Danny
Of course. Get your favourite girl a drink, won't you? I'm stone cold sober so don't be afraid to go strong :P x

"So, Amaris, as our President, any last minute words of wisdom? Warnings about not bringing dishonour on Theta?" She asked, barely even looking up from her phone, but still grinning. From what she'd heard from some of her friends, other sororities and fraternities got lectures about how they were to behave and who they were to associate with. Like they weren't all grown adults capable of making their own decisions and choices. Sure, their fraternities and sororities were important, but there was a limit to it.

She grinned at Eliza as she arrived. "Aw, Eliza, you look stunning!" She gushed. She wasn't even exaggerating. Honestly, everyone in her sorority was so pretty. She'd really gotten lucky like that.

Yuda made a quick dash from the upstairs bedroom down to the living quarters and out the front door, trying not to trip on her heels. She hoped no one would be too upset that she was running a fraction of a second late. She's usually punctual, but tomgight was gonna be pretty hectic so it might as well start hectic. She fixed her hair as she ran it the spot Amaris' Bentley was usually parked in. It was pretty far from the house because something about sun exposure, she doesn't really know or care. She immediately swung the door to car open, and basically forced her way next to Eliza. Which reminded she forgot to text Eliza, oops. Well she was here now and that's all that really matters. "Hey everyone."She said, sort out of breath. She didn't really run to the care it was more of a run walk because who can even run efficiently in heels. You all look pretty good, be careful not to outshine me." She teased as she took out her phone to respond to a text she had gotten.

To: Naomi
In your dreams sweetie, see you at the party and ALWAYS check the drink if someone offers you one.

She put her phone back into her purse and looked up at everyone. I have all the feminine necessities you might need ladies, so don't be afraid to ask She said, sort of proud of herself that she had become kind of a reliable friend. Well, I am all ready to go.

She sat on the porch and watched as most of the girls were already leaving to the event. She complimented a few of them as they left but the others she just nodded her head of approval. Abigail's phone chimed and it was a text from Daisy, who stated that she was riding with Amaris and Nicholas. She didn't bother to text her back as her phone chimed again and she looked at it as it was Archie sending her a text. She read it and started to type a reply.

To: Archie :D
Okay. I'll be sure to do that.

She sent the text then looked up at Juliette and Naomi as they came outside just as an uber driver pulled up. Her phone chimed again as Yuda name scrolled across the screen. She went to type a message but looked up again as Naomi asked if her and Juliette were coming. Abigail nodded her head and muttered. "Yeah." Was all she said as she got up and started to type a reply to Yuda whenever she got into the uber.

To: Yuda
I'll try not to. See you there though!

Abigail eyed Juliette and Naomi as she smiled towards them. "You ladies look absolutely stunning." She complimented them as she looked down at her phone and saw Ben's name come across her screen. A soft smile came across her face and she started to type a reply towards him.

To: Ben โ™ฅ
Awe, you're so sweet. And yes, a drink would be nice. Everything okay?
I am almost there, riding in an uber with Juliette and Naomi.

She sent the message then turned her head to look out of the window as they drove towards the event. She was excited to get there to have a drink with Ben and to dance with him but she was mostly excited to see everyone and just mingle. Abigail let out a small groan as she eyed Juliette and Naomi again. "Are we there yet?" She sat back in her seat in a kind of impatient manner before she saw the building within the distance. It caused her face to gleam with a certain happiness as she let out a light squeal.

Once Amaris was sure that Eliza had a ride to the event - and that meaning that she herself could be assured that she had gotten her Little there - Amaris didn't bother responding, she simply filed it away in her head as a positive. She simply went through the rest of her text messages, rolling her eyes on a demand that Ashley be brought back home if she's already white girl wasted because there was no way in hell Amaris was going to permit her to continue on for the night when she knew the other girl's propensity for throwing back vodka as if it were nothing but distilled water. She paused in her rant when she heard Daisy ask if there was any advice to be given and Amaris chuckled, staring down at her nice little paragraph of text and shot Nick a look just as he choked back a small laugh.

"Did you give your boys a speech?" She asked pointedly and Nick only grinned in response. "Didn't have to. Not sure anything could affect our, what did the board call it, historically sublime behavior. Pretty sure five of our guys could walk into a lecture right now and still be considered the sanest in the room." Amaris hummed in agreement, nodding her head along as he spoke before addressing Daisy. "My point exactly. As much as I know the Alphas and Betas give their speeches on good behavior, and the Sigmas and Zetas have a history of perpetuating a disposition of nonchalance, I don't need to tell you girls anything. I don't pretend to think that rebellion against stringency and unnecessary codes of conduct does not exist. You girls are grown and I'm going to treat you like such. Get drunk? At least remember to Uber home if you don't already have a ride. Sleep over at such and such's place? Make your walk of shame look classy and keep it pushing. Our reputation is too pristine for you to really do anything to tarnish it, but also don't push it. I like being the one house on campus everyone else underestimates. We get away with more stuff." Which set Amaris at ease at all times. Regardless of how much the Alphas thought they had more than the Thetas and sometimes even the Zetas sneered down at what they perceived as the Thetas being goody two shoes, at the end of the day, there was a privilege in being a Theta Chi sweetie-pie. People anticipated them to not party hard, to not be stealthy and evasive, to not be like the others. Which meant that their slate remained clean, they got stars across the board for good behavior, and they could still do as they pleased. Theta Chi, for Amaris, had never meant that any of them were inherently innocent. It simply meant that they could be the thorns that covered the roses everyone else assumed they were the caricature of, and no one would think otherwise. And if they did, they had a history that stretched back too far and too pristine for anyone to truly accept such a "lie." She finished her message to a few of the girls and replied to Blake respectively at the end of that thought.

To: Blake
Feeling the love already, baby boy. Omw

"Seems like we're all here," Nick commented as Eliza and Yuda both entered the car, one seamlessly after the other. Which meant they could leave and while Nick was sure he wasn't going to drink anything more for the night, a dirty martini was sounding a bit nicer than he thought it was going to. Amaris beamed at the two girls, though her eyes did linger on Eliza a bit more now that she saw that she and her Little had been on the same wave length with red. "Hello, my darlings, I'm glad we're establishing the goddess titles that we all have. It's nice to be on the same wavelength and all that," she greeted before turning back to Nick. Alright, babe. Let's get this show on the road. Ms. Ndoye is already there and there's a cosmopolitan calling my name."

Eliza squeezed into the back of the car with Yuda and Daisy while Amaris took the shotgun seat. Eliza hadn't intended to match her sister's colour scheme, but the coincidence was a happy one if Amaris's reaction was anything to go by

"Hello, my darlings, I'm glad we're establishing the goddess titles that we all have. It's nice to be on the same wavelength and all that," she turned back to Nick. Alright, babe. Let's get this show on the road. Ms. Ndoye is already there and there's a cosmopolitan calling my name."

Looking around the car, Eliza could quite easily say that there wasn't a single one of her sisters that wasn't gorgeous in her own way. It was a boost to her confidence to have them around her. She'd seen how the Alphas worked, and Eliza wasn't sure she could keep up with that level of cattiness and expectation, but they always looked impossibly perfect. Eliza didn't want to be impossible perfect. She liked being her, flaws and all. And according to Amaris, that made her a goddess.

Eliza felt her phone buzz in her lap and fished her phone out of her bag. She switched the screen on and saw a notification from Danny.

From:Danny
I'll see when you get here then!

To:Danny
We're on our way. ETA ten minutes or so. Don't hold me to that.

When they arrived, Daisy took off, heading straight to the bar. Eliza watched her friend go, smiling as she did. That was so Daisy. In Eliza's mind, besides Amaris, Daisy was the most extroverted one of the group. She was the life and soul of the party. And also the one most likely to get drunk. Each to their own though, Eliza figured. She wasn't one for getting drunk. She'd tried it a few times and didn't really like it. Buzzed, sure, buzzed was good, but she would never be able to keep up with Daisy at the bar.

Eliza's smile dropped when she noticed Danny at the bar, right where Daisy had made a beeline to. She looked away for a moment, her confidence faltering for a moment. She was probably reading way too much into it. Daisy had a lot of friends, Danny was probably just another one. They were just getting a shot together, it's not like they were making out. It's not like Danny and Eliza were even together, so it didn't even matter if they were making out. It would be kind of crappy, but Eliza didn't have any claim to Danny beyond a few dates towards the end of last semester. Eliza rubbed the bridge of her nose. Her life was so much easier when boys hadn't been involved in it. Maybe her dad had been onto something with his no dating policy. It was a headache she could do without.

Yeah, but it's Danny. We like Danny

Eliza smoothed her hair down. Right now, Danny, and where she stood with him, were an issue for another time. Still, at least she wouldn't have to text him to let him know they were there. He could probably figure that out by Daisy being at the bar. She reached for her phone, deciding to check in on Michaela.

To: Mickey
Heey, are you at the party yet? Or do I need to wait a few?

Blake parked his car as his phone buzzed twice. He reached for it and checked the messages, Amaris's first. He smiled to himself at the nickname as he typed his reply.

To:Amaris
Cute. Very cute. I'll make sure there's a drink waiting for you because I'm nice like that.

Blake opened Cyrus's response and his face dropped as he slid down in his seat. Well, that explained why Alexander Sr hadn't been at home. Who in the hell had invited his fa-- Andre. Son of a bitch. Blake climbed out of his car and slammed the door shut. He pocketed his phone and car keys as he headed to the venue and headed straight for the bar, where the blissful sight of Cyrus and a shot awaited him.

"Alexander!"

Blake's foot stopped mid-stride as the familiar and unwelcome sound of his father's voice met his ears. Blake smiled thinly and turned to face his father. For a man approaching his mid-fifties, Alexander Sr didn't look so bad. For an absolute bastard of a father, Alexander Sr had the most punchable face Blake had ever set eyes on. "I go by Blake," he answered, shaking his father's hand in a vice like grip. "I assume Andre invited you? Since he's actually a Beta man."

"Yes, yes he did. You know I was al--"

"Always surprised that I wasn't a third generation legacy. That's wonderful," Blake interrupted, already knowing his father's spiel. "I have friends to meet, networking and what have you. I'm sure you busy being wooed by better people than I." Blake dropped his father's hand and disappeared into the crowd before Alexander Sr could protest. Blake weaved through the crowd to Cyrus.

"You, my friend, are a sight for sore eyes," he said as he picked up the shot glass. He signaled to the bartender. "A Manhattan and a Cosmopolitan, and whatever my friend here wants," he said, tipping his head towards Cyrus. The bartender hesitated a moment. Blake shook his head and pulled his ID out. One of the advantages of having a birthday early in the semester was that by the time these things rolled around, he had already turned twenty one. He knocked the tequila shot back. "I'm blaming Andre for this. Just so you know."

To: Blake
Such a gentleman. How ever am I going to repay you?

Amaris was just a bit slower than Eliza and Daisy in getting to the bar inside the venue, but it was definitely her destination once she finished schmoozing, as they all joked that the Alphas and Betas were wont to do at any chance that they got. Just the thought made her smirk, but there was no denying that that was exactly what Amaris was doing. The second they had all exited her Bentley and Nick had gone to park elsewhere (he had decided to drop them all at the entrance so that the girls didn't have to do too much walking in their heels) since the place was packed, Amaris had been swept away by a couple of alumni, the majority of whom were alum Thetas and Kappas, and two who were Alphas. As much as the cosmopolitan she knew Blake had gotten her was calling her name, there was no way in hell she wasn't about to charm her way into more money for the Thetas and at least several internship possibilities for her Theta and Kappa babies. Particularly since Ms. Ndoye, a former Theta Chi president, was living in Atlanta and had a host of charitable events that the girls could collaborate in.

"House of Ruth was such a...humbling and inspiring environment when I visited," she remarked upon their entrance into the rather spacious and luxurious modern home turned venue for the evening. "I am more than certain our girls would feel honored to come and volunteer, at least with providing an Easter meal for them in the spring semester. While it might be a bit last minute now for them to have to change plans for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, particularly with the resurgence of mid-term and final cram sessions, I'm pretty sure if we sit them down before at least Christmas and incite a conversation on how they want to go about things during the spring, we will more than likely be able to participate." During a visit to Atlanta for a talk with Ntozake Shange and a host of other black feminists who sat on a panel at one of the schools in Atlanta, Amaris had happened upon a representative for House of Ruth who was incredibly close with one of the professors. After a conversation or two, and discovering their shared Fulton University affiliation, she had kept contact with the woman since last semester and they had promised to have more conversation on the Thetas participating.

"I look forward to the collaboration, my dear," Ms. Ndoye stated warmly and Amaris smiled at the hum of agreement in the air. "And might I just say, if I hadn't before, that this is a new look for you, Miss Hamilton. You look really nice." Amaris could feel the telltale flush alight her cheeks and her smile grew as she ducked her head shyly before swiping back a stray curl. "Thank you, ma'am." She glanced about them to see that they were only a room away from where she knew the bar was going to be and when she turned back to the group, a few more had been added. And Amaris knew then that that was when she needed to leave. Not because she couldn't handle anymore people, but their conversation wouldn't steer back into the direction that it had been in and it would take her the rest of the night to do so. "With all due respect, ma'am, I think you all did a wonderful job on the venue and you should enjoy your evening accordingly. I'll try to find you before the night is out or give you a call first thing tomorrow?" A response of affirmation was given and Amaris smiled cordially, shaking a few newer hands, and then parting ways with the crowd.

It didn't take long for Amaris to find the bar, especially considering the people lined up alongside it. Running a hand through her soft, dense curls, Amaris ran her eyes over the room, not particularly looking for anyone, just scoping out the room. It seemed that the louder and slightly more rambunctious music was being played outside as the atmosphere seemed jovial yet calmer inside. It made sense; considering how many people could be found inside closer to this bar and the various seating areas, this atmosphere required the networking and conversing crowds as opposed to outside where current students would probably benefit more from letting loose in lieu of upcoming exams, both for Fulton and for the various graduate studies institutions they would more than likely have to prepare themselves for. It was a bit of a reach as far as reaches went, but the thought of examinations and graduate school brought Eliana to Amaris' mind and she took the time out to text her girl before walking in the direction of the bar, smiling at a few familiar faces as she went.

To: Eli
I'm here. Nick's parking, but I'm getting a drink with Blake.

It didn't take Amaris long to find the aforementioned Sigma and while she wasn't necessarily close with the Sigma he was currently with, it wouldn't be Amaris if she couldn't identify one of the few Sigmas with stark white hair. Painted lips curving into a smirk, she approached from behind Blake, wrapping her arms around his waist and (with the assistance of her heels) resting her chin on his shoulder. "Good evening, gentleman," she greeted, eyes initially on Cyrus out of respect before said eyes lit up as she turned them to meet Blake's gaze on a grin. "Hello, handsome. I do believe I was promised a drink earlier."

It wouldn't be Mickey if she didn't immediately find where the livest music was at any place a party was hosted at and considering she wasn't in the mood for rich snobs and networking on a Sunday night (that honestly could have been spent with the homemade cheesecake she was letting firm up in the fridge and the rest of her marijuana), she had immediately found herself dragging Jazmyn to the pool area. Not only was she more entranced by the outside air and general easy-going atmosphere, the music was a touch better, there was still a bar outside and there was a pool. Being near a pool where there were lounges and such meant fun. Being inside with a bunch of old wealthy people trying to both relive their glory days and act all high-and-mighty now that they were gray (which totally had her thinking that some of these guys were sipping from the fountain of youth because there was no way in hell you could convince Mickey that these men had been in the class of 1975) just wasn't the business and once she and Jaz had gotten at least two shots of tequila in, it was lit. At least, for Mickey, once she had wandered off and found herself talking (yelling) with the DJ over the music. Come to find out, they had even DJed for the same place once or twice before, and that he had been to one of the parties she had DJed at back in Los Angeles. She also made sure to text Eliana.

To: Mama Li
Good news, I'm here. By the pool. W/ the DJ. Bad news, tequila is bomb and my car keys are kinda in my wallet in my pocket. Don't worry, honeybear. You know I don't drink much.

It probably wasn't going to convince her Big to just let her drive home after the night was over, though it was debatable whether or not Mickey was going to feel like listening once the time came. This wasn't one of the times where Mickey just didn't bother with listening or adhering to authority. Unlike a few people in this world, Michaela actually respected Eliana more than most. It probably helped that this was her Big and so their connection had to be something for the two of them to work as well as they did, but still. Eli earned Mickey's respect and for that, Michaela listened from time to time. The music changed to a dubstep R&B mix and Mickey nodded in enjoyment, giving a thumbs up to the DJ. "Dude, that's sick," she commented loudly and he grinned, earning one in response from her. Michaela looked over the crowd outside before turning back to the guy, moving one of his headphones out of the way so that he could definitely hear her. "Headed to the bar. You want anything?" Once she got his order and gave a confirmation of its reception with two thumbs up, Mickey was sidling by the group of dancers and headed to the outside bar when it occured to her that she hadn't heard much from Charlotte yet, which just didn't do. There was rarely a party she had attended since meeting the Arnault that she didn't get to have the brunette by her side, so while one of the bartenders was focused on another guest, Mickey whipped her phone back out to text Charlotte and respond to Eliza, belated realizing that Cyrus and Cas had text her.

To: Lottie

As much as he understood how important it was for her specifically to network, epecially with her being a president of a Greek organization and all, Nick honestly felt like he should have met Amaris wait for him. At least, made her enter the place with him. That way, she could take up all the attention - she was radiant tonight, more-so than she normally was - and Nick could slither away to get them drinks while she worked crowds and various one-on-one conversations. Because right about now? He was convinced that he either looked a mess and Amaris had just been trying to be nice earlier, or someone else important had walked in beside him. Not that everyone got stares of some kind when they walked in and either ignored it or reveled in it. Because that didn't exist to him, which was why he ended up having a conversation with Amaris. It didn't exactly end on a note that he would have liked, sure, but it did prompt him to text a few of his Kappa brothers to see if everyone had made it and if they were about. After all, some people didn't feel like fulfilling her best friend responsibilities.

To: Hayden, Danny, Ben
Where is everyone? I'm headed out to the pool.

Nick followed one of the side doors he remembered from originally visiting the venue some time in the event's earlier conception days and was surprised immediately by the sight of an old friend, Jessie. Jessie had graduated last year and had gone off to do Teach For America for a year since participation could help offset the financial strain of graduate school. The two had grown comfortable with one another in the time they had both been Kappas. It probably helped that it was Jessie who had even introduced Nick to the rest of the Kappas and the idea of Greek life. The fact that they had slept together prior to that discussion was a topic Nick didn't like dwelling on too much. He had just been thankful that they had kept it between the two of them. And especially that Jessie hadn't become his Big. Nick wasn't sure how he would have handled that situation. "Jess! I didn't even know you were coming back," he exclaimed once they both pulled away from their hug. The older man grinned widely, chuckling to himself. "Figured I'd surprise you guys and all. Chicago's kinda cold this time of year and I missed my Florida people. How've you been?" Nick couldn't help but grin in response. "Good, great even. I was just about to go look for Ben or one of the sophomores." It seemed possible that Jessie's grin widened even further. "Let me go get us drinks and we can look for them together. We can catch up in the meantime." Nick nodded only too quickly, reaching into his pocket once more to pull out his phone once he heard the ringtone for another text message. "I'll wait here." Once he saw the other man off, Nick glanced down at his phone, not even able to stop himself from practically beaming upon seeing a response from Weston. He couldn't even tell if it was relief that things weren't...awkward or elation that he was being acknowledged that had him smiling so hard, but either way he couldn't help but feel some inkling of satisfaction that Wes even text him. The fact that there was a compliment and a seeming desire to see him was just a completely different story and a host of butterflies in his stomach. It was only a second later that the smile dropped and Nick searched around himself, for Hudson in particular or just a Beta who had known the situation, he couldn't say, before going back to the message to type out a response.

To: Wes
Pretty sure you're looking dashing somewhere. I'm outside, near the pool. Ran into a Kappa alum. Where are you?

Was it common knowledge that Mickey was the queen of denial? Because she was - even if she didn't want to admit it. After all, who else could deny so adamantly the fluttering in their belly the second a familiar voice and hands reached them? Only Michaela and she would deny the feeling to the ends of the earth if she had enough weed in her. No alcohol, alcohol made her say stupid and honest things. It wouldn't, however, bereave her of the elation that bubbled forth and formed a grin on her face at the sight of Charlotte Arnault coming up behind her. After all, they were friends - this was her best friend. And after basically being told that they couldn't hang out (even though Mickey made a point of continuing to do so just because what the fuck is authority?), she missed the brunette. Fiercely. A lot more than she wanted to admit. Then again, she could admit that before she would ever admit the way it felt like Charlotte's touch lingered on her side even when the girl had pulled away and was focused on both getting a drink and teasing Mickey.

"Ooooohhh, holding back spicy deets now, baby girl? Should've told me sooner, I would've packed some jammies, made it a sleepover," Michaela replied offhandedly and rolling her eyes in jest with the bartender upon Charlotte slapping down an ID and what looked to be her platinum credit card, but Mickey wasn't really focusing on the smaller details. Not when Charlotte was literally right there and so close. Her hands, as always, itched to touch, but Mickey's first instinct, even when she told herself that she should stop doing that because real friends did not flirt with their close friends, was to flirt. And so she turned to Charlotte a second later with a more salacious smirk and responded indifferently, casually, "I mean, we could still do that, if you want. I sleep better naked, anyway. Might even be a little more fun that way, don't you think?." She couldn't even stop herself from winking at the brunette before returning her attention to the bartender. "You guys do Zombies right? Well, I want two for me and my girl here. And send a rum and coke to the DJ."

In all honesty, Michaela knew that she should text Jazmyn, tell the girl to come find them so that Mickey could find some semblance of control and reign herself in. Because she was capable of it, contrary to popular belief. Except...she didn't do that. Didn't move to do that nor move to see why her phone vibrated - it was probably a response from Cyrus, all things considered - at all, not when Charlotte Arnault had the puzzling capability of widening Mickey's entire scope just so that she could encompass it all on her own. It was honestly selfish, really, especially when she looked this good. All dolled up and untouchable, at least for Michaela. Mickey bit her lip on a hum, forcing herself to keep her eyes trained solely on Charlotte's (and nope, they didn't dip down to the girl's lips at all, thank you very much). Which meant she had to keep talking, if only to get a response out of Charlotte, since the other girl could get a response out of Mickey with little to no words (so unfair, by the way). "But, since we're being all honest and sharing news, Miss Arnault, I must admit that you were correct about one thing," Mickey stated and ignored the voice in her head that said her voice should not be that low or silky. She wasn't trying to take Charlotte to bed, right? Of its own volition, her left hand switched her phone to her right so that it could reach Charlotte, thumb grazing where the girl's pearl earring was connected to her earlobe, reveling in the feel of the encrusted diamonds against the pad of her thumb along with the soft skin she shouldn't be touching pressed against it, while continuing, "I was feeling quite neglected. Horrifyingly, so. Lonely, even. In fact, the only way I can think of you possibly making it up to me is not leaving my side for the rest of the night. You know, just in case I get a little too needy and need my fix. Addiction is a hard thing to crack, after all."

Eliza checked her phone to see the text from Mickey. She looked around the room, planning her pathway to the pool, and apparently getting in people's way while she did. She apologised quietly as she shifted to the side. Pool, pool, who decided there was going to be a pool at this thing anyway. It's not like any of them were dressed for a pool party. God alumni events were stressful. She should have made plans to meet with people beforehand before flying in unprepared. Of course, none of this would be an issue if she wasn't so scatterbrained half the time. Eliza took a deep breath. She was a confident, smart young woman, who looked incredible tonight. She was powerful, and

And oh God, Danny was dancing with Daisy. Eliza felt her stomach drop as she saw them. Jesus Christ, Eliza get a grip. It's a crush. You went on a few dates, she told herself. From the corner of her eye, she spotted someone heading towards her. She didn't recognise him, not on sight. She looked around herself, no one else seemed to have spotted him and he was looking right at her, a smile forming on his face. "Alone by coincidence or by choice?"

Yep, definitely here for her. Life had apparently taken a crazy turn. She didn't get approached by boys at these kind of things. Not ones that looked or dressed like him anyway. "A little of column A, a little of column B? My, ah, friends are a little busy," she said, indicating to Danny and Daisy, "Wouldn't wanna interrupt them or anything like that. Sorry," she caught herself before she could babble too much, "Eliza, hi," she waved at him awkwardly. She was good at many things, casual conversations and flirting with strange boys who walked from the bar to talk to her was not one of them.

"Those are on me, As well as a Gin and Tonic, please and thank you."

Blake held his hands up as Maddox shot him a winning smile. Sure, Maddox was hot, the kind of guy Blake might just go after, but there was something between him and Cyrus, Blake was sure of it, even if the two weren't quite aware of it themselves. And so Maddox was not pursued, mostly because Blake had a feeling that Cyrus wouldn't hesitate to give him a black eye if he did. "Be my guest." He thanked the bartender and nodded to Maddox when their drinks arrived.

Blake took a sip of his drink. He stood up a little straighter when he felt arms wrapping around his waist. "Good evening, gentleman," came the delightfully familiar voice of Amaris Hamilton. Her chin rested on his shoulder. "Hello, handsome. I do believe I was promised a drink earlier."

Blake detached himself from Amaris's arms. "And what kind of gentleman would I be if I kept a lady waiting?" he asked, handing Amaris her Cosmopolitan. "Maddox paid, he insisted on it." Blake went to indicate to the Beta, but found he had disappeared. "Nevermind. I probably don't need to say it since nearly every guy in the room is practically drooling, but you look incredible."

Cyrus rose from his seat and whispered in his ear, "I've got some green, join me later." Blake nodded. "I'll catch you in a bit."

"So,"he turned his attention back to Amaris, "How was your summer?"

Amaris helpfully extracted her arms from Blake's form when he turned for her and offered him a delighted smile upon seeing her pink-tinted alcoholic beverage waiting for her. "Awww, look at you, already knowing what it takes to make me swoon," she remarked and gladly took the drink from the Sigma, already appreciative without having taken a sip of the beverage. Amaris had a deep love for classics and in her eyes, a cosmopolitan was a classic drink. It wasn't everyone's forte as most people liked newer concoctions or even stronger drinks than the one she held, but it was a preference she stood by. Granted, she would always go for a glass of red wine before a Cosmo, but this wasn't the place, in her mind, for that drink. This was a time for socializing and being on one's feet at all times, at least until your conversation was moved into more intimate settings like lounges. Cosmopolitans were made to be sipped on while giggling over the latest fashion blunder at the show in Australia or even talking with your girls on a night going bar-hopping. Her wine could wait for another night. There was a voice in her head that reminded her that she simply learned what to like to fit into these scenes considering she would never fit in without them, but Amaris ignored the negativity in favor of taking a sip to see if the drink was done correctly.

"Careful there, Blake," she warned playfully, taking a moment to savor the tart bite that accompanied her first intake of the drink while ignoring the pleasure that warmed her cheeks upon the compliment. As much as she did enjoy the flattery that came with putting on an exceptional performance in a presentation or classroom setting, she was a lot less sure of herself gaining attention when it came to her physicality. Amaris made a habit of being confident around everyone else and she knew she was fairly pretty, but it still surprised her when that attention was turned on to her. Which was why, unlike Nick, she was better at pretending she wasn't getting, even when she was aware of stares. As long as she was the one holding her head high, she could go on not worrying about what anyone thought of her, even when the opinions were positive. Amaris flashed him a teasing grin. "You and I both know that the quickest way to my heart is flattery. Play your cards right and you might find yourself getting lucky, though I'm pretty sure there are host of guys and girls who are very willing to fall into your bed." Amaris made a point to ignore the fact that she herself had wound up in Blake's bed one too many times. Luckily for her, though, their entanglements in the sheets were honestly just stress relievers, fun even. Something she could appreciate on the nights where she really didn't want to put in the effort it took ti find someone else or when the itch coincided with her work ethic.

It took another sip for Cyrus to whisper in Blake's ear and for the boys to exchange a nod before the white-blonde-haired boy to leave, and Amaris moved to take his place. She didn't sit, but she took the position of standing in front of Blake, leaning against the bar and placing her glass on the smooth surface as he asked about her summer. As the years had gone by at Fulton, no one particularly talked about their summer plans as extensively once they returned. Perhaps you did so to brag during freshman year when people were getting to know you simply to make yourself seem more exciting than you were, and again sophomore year because you and your new friends from last year were just getting to know one another so you didn't exactly talk the entire summer. However, once Amaris hit the junior year mark, it wasn't a conversation starter fresh off the plane or drive from wherever she had been. She shrugged in what was supposed to be indifference while replying jestingly, "Oh, you know, the future best defense attorney in the continental US' work is never done, after all. Internship with US Embassy in Spain here, cruise with your sorority there...visiting schools in the US with their own museums and various workshops with feminists and activists." Amaris' grin never wavered. Her competitiveness with both Blake and Naomi fueled their friendship and their drive to do better, and it was something that she could appreciate in both relationships. And if it made sex with Blake even more fun, well then, Amaris was all about reaping the benefits off of that. "I mean, all I'm sure you've had experience with, you know, to make your resume up to par and everything. Law school's real competitive, after all." Amaris chuckled then before shaking her head. "But in all honesty, it was fine. How about yours?"

Danny walked by Eliza talking to some guy he didn't know. He got a weird feeling in the pit of his stomach, but he shook it off as the alcohol doing it's work. Eliza was the last thing he wanted to think about tonight, simply because he knew it would make him rethink his intentions to end the night with Daisy. He walked to the bar and was ordering up another drink when he felt his phone buzz in his pocket. It was the group text with him, Nick, Hayden, and Ben. Noting Nick's location, he proceeded to the poolside.

He arrived to find Nick standing by himself looking down at his phone. Danny hollered a quick "Nick! What's up?" to gain his attention before leaning in to dap him up. "You look lonely out here... Waiting for someone?" Danny asked as he looked around for any sign of Amaris, Hayden, or Ben.

Jack arrived at the Girls in Pearls and Guys in Ties event a little bit late, but only because he had ended up having to defend his championship title in a double overtime round of beer pong back at the Sigma house. When he and the rest of the Sigmas got to the party, most of them dispersed to go socialize, and after saying a few hello's to some familiar faces, Jack found himself in need of a drink. Unfortunately for him, this party wasn't hosting an open bar. For most of the attendees, having to pay for drinks probably wasn't a huge deal. Jack wasn't scraping by either, but dropping one hundred dollars on a bar tab wasn't really on his agenda tonight. He had already had a considerable amount of drinks at the Sigma house, and that was how he usually liked doing these events. He drank his own beer and liquor at home to pregame and save money, and then would only have to buy a drink or two at the party... plus whatever drinks he convinced himself were worth buying for whatever girl he thought he could bring home with him that night.

Although the bar was crowded, Jack managed to catch a bartender's attention at the far end, and a minute later, he had a crisp, cold bottle of beer in his hand. He would have moved away from the crowded area then, but he caught sight of some faces at the other end of the bar that just made approaching them too irresistible. "Don't worry, Blake. I'm here to rescue you from having to listen to Amaris go on and on about museums and feminists and workshops and whatever other kinds of boring shit she's putting you to sleep, talking about," Jack said, having appeared beyond Amaris towards the end of her response to Blake's inquiry about her summer. He was being obnoxious, and purposely so. For one, he was friends with Blake, so he knew the guy would know better than to think he was being seriously rude, and on top of that, he got a thrill out of taking jabs at Amaris. "Instead of bragging about herself, what she should be talking about, is how it's so obvious that she wore that dress just to impress me. And hey, Amaris, I'll give credit where credit is due and admit that you achieved your goal there, but come on, you know that Blake is the only Sigma you'd be able to handle," he said, moving to stand beside Blake and placing a hand on the guy's shoulder roughly. "I don't know how Mr. Future Lawyer made it into the Sigma house. He's gotta be good in bed, or else he would've ended up in the Kappa house, but you weigh in on that, Mare. Give us the inside scoop," he jested, tossing back nearly half of his beer in one gulp. He knew some people would find it inappropriate to reference other people's sexual encounters aloud, but Jack didn't think that Blake and Mare's occasional hookups were really supposed to be a secret. And if they were... oh well.

โ€Ahh, Eliza, of course, Daisy has mentioned you before.โ€ Eliza raised an eyebrow in surprise at the idea of Daisy casually mentioning her to anyone. They were friends sure, but Eliza wasn't quite sure what Daisy and this guy had been discussing that resulted in her name being dropped into the conversation. Her attention was brought back to the moment as she felt someone take her hand. โ€Maddox.โ€ Maddox introduced himself and shook her hand. Eliza returned the smile that she saw on his face.

โ€Wellโ€ฆSince your friends are busy, and Iโ€™d hate to leave you out here alone, how about a dance?โ€

Before Eliza had a chance to think about an answer to the question, Maddox was already leading to the dancefloor. She would have said yes anyway, if only to give her a bit more time to place his name and his face properly. He seemed familiar, but she couldn't quite figure out where from. She found herself swaying with the music, keeping in step with Maddox as they danced to the slower track. โ€So your friends are dating, I assume? Thatโ€™s the only reason I can come up with as to why he would be dancing with Daisy when he could be dancing with you.โ€

Eliza dropped his gaze for a moment, her cheeks warming at the thinly veiled compliment. Where they dating? Surely one of them would have mentioned it to her, especially since she lived with Daisy."I honestly don't know," she said after a moments pause as she brought her eyes back up to his. She caught sight of Danny in the corner of her eye as he went passed. No, she wasn't going to go down that path. If Danny wanted to talk to her, he could do that. She wasn't going to chase him, not while he had whatever thing he had going with Daisy. Eliza had more about her than that. "I think it's more a casual thing. You'd be better off asking one of them."

"Oh, you know, the future best defense attorney in the continental US' work is never done, after all. "I mean, all I'm sure you've had experience with, you know, to make your resume up to par and everything. Law school's real competitive, after all," Amaris laughed. As she spoke, Blake raised his eyebrow and nodded, quietly impressed if it was all true. "But in all honesty, it was fine. How about yours?"

Blake opened his mouth to answer, intending on telling her about his own summer spend schmoozing and working, when they were interrupted by his president. "Don't worry, Blake. I'm here to rescue you from having to listen to Amaris go on and on about museums and feminists and workshops and whatever other kinds of boring shit she's putting you to sleep, talking about."

Blake rolled his eyes, shaking his head slightly as Jack spoke. Jack's sense of humour was something that had taken Blake a while to get used to. After a few months, Blake had learned to brush off his obnoxiousness and laugh at it. Whether Amaris took it that way was another matter. "Instead of bragging about herself, what she should be talking about, is how it's so obvious that she wore that dress just to impress me. And hey, Amaris, I'll give credit where credit is due and admit that you achieved your goal there, but come on, you know that Blake is the only Sigma you'd be able to handle."

Blake placed his drink down on the bar top as Jack clasped his shoulder. Most likely, Jack was already drunk, in which case this was going to be a fantastic night. "I don't know how Mr. Future Lawyer made it into the Sigma house. He's gotta be good in bed, or else he would've ended up in the Kappa house, but you weigh in on that, Mare. Give us the inside scoop."

Blake sighed. His relationship with Amaris wasn't exactly a secret, but Blake prided himself on having a level of discretion when it came to the men and women in his bed. A level of discretion that Jack lacked. Sure, Amaris was a great lay, but Jack didn't need to know that, not unless Amaris wanted him too. He leaned against the bar and ran a finger along the lapel of Jack's suit. "Jack, sugar, if you want to know how good I am in bed, all you had to do was buy me a drink and ask for a demonstration. But, I'll let you in on a secret," he leaned in close and whispered in Jack's ear, "you probably couldn't handle me or Amaris even on your best day." Blake pulled back and raised his eyebrows, silently daring Jack to make a come back as he took a sip of his Manhattan. Blake cast his eye out on the dance floor and spotted Maddox dancing with a dark haired girl Blake vaguely recognised from the handful of times he'd been caught leaving Amaris's room. "Is that your little with Maddox? he asked, tilting his head in the couple's direction.

Cyrus sits out by the pool bar, attracted by a recently-graduated Sigma alum, Kirk Richmond. The grad had taken a liking to Cyrus, mainly because he always had low prices on Adderall, but also because their general personalities clashed well. Kirk landed a clerk position for one of the Florida state judges, a prestigious position that would probably land him a judge position later on in life. Cyrus walks up to him, setting both the drinks down on a nearby table and greeting the alum with great happiness. "Man, first Guys in Ties as a Sigma Chi Delta alumni. How's it feel, old man?" Kirk turns, and with a big smile, embraces Cyrus. Kirk orders a drink for the two of them, and considering the state that Cyrus is already in, he sips his with little intention on finishing it.

"Man, Cy, I missed ya' buddy! That real world out there is cruel. Missin' Sigma parties everyday. How was your summer?" His words filter through Cyrus' ears, and he swears he's listening, but he catches a glance at a certain Kappa walking out onto the pool area and he's stuck for a moment. Hayden looks good tonight, fuckable tonight, but they haven't hooked up in a long time and bring that up now, with the whole Maddox situation, seems like unnecessary drama. Still, he can help but look at the boy and bite his lip, keeping eye contact for longer than needed. "Yo Cyrus, are you paying attention?" Kirk groans, snapping his fingers in Cyrus' face. Cyrus indignantly replies that yes, he was listening, and repeated Kirk's recent blurb of conversation. Now who said Cyrus couldn't multitask? When it comes to cute boys- and girls -Cyrus can be a master of anything. Cyrus returns to Kirk's original question, pondering it slightly. Summer was spent hooking up with plenty of people- including a couple visits from a certain Beta, but those usually happened down in Florida; Cyrus spent most of the summer holiday in New York. "Summer was summer. Missed the Miami heat- God, nothing beats Florida. I've come to tolerate New York, but I just feel better in Florida, you know?"

A small group of Sigma alum starts forming when Kirk notices some guys that graduated before Cyrus; some only a few years, but some long before Cyrus even thought about college. There is a commotion inside as more active Sigma brothers enter, including Jack Decker, Sigma Chi Delta president. Cyrus excuses himself from the group of alumni and heads back inside, making sure to purposefully brush by Hayden on his way inside. It must be the liquor because Cyrus usually doesn't bother with more than a hello towards the Kappa brother. He even casts a smirk towards Weston Cullen, who has made company with Hayden.

"Sorry to interrupt, I thought Miss Hamilton could use a pretty face around her." Cyrus teases his fellow brothers, unaware of whatever they had just been talking about.

Across the room, Andre finally makes his break from the James Sr when Hudson finally makes his entrance. Once Hudson is surrounded by Beta alum, after just breaking from a group of Alpha and Beta alum, Andre seamless joins the group beside Hudson. The Beta alumni are conversing lightly, and Andre starts a side conversation with Hudson. "Talking to my president was the only excuse Reid James would accept to let me leave the conversation. I swear that whole family is fucked up, but at least he had some sense to go Beta. The brother are behaving themselves, as apposed to other fraternities. So, the real question is, which Alpha alumni is going home with you tonight?"
