It’s late June as Alyssa opens her eyes to see the love of her life, Jax, still sleeping beside her. She gently smiles and kisses his cheek before plucking herself upwards into a sitting position to stretch and wake herself up the rest of the way. I’m living in a fairytale… love of my life beside me, ranch starting up on a crisp, summer morning, and his adorable toddler twins cooing in their nursery in our grand home, but something doesn’t feel right. She thinks to herself as she slips away from the bed and over to the balcony which looks out to their barn, and fields where the horses will be put out shortly. For a moment she simply stands there still with her hands lying gently on the rail as she watches the sun rise, but soon finds herself stirring to do something different and exciting. She glances over her shoulder, as she turns to face their bedroom, to look back at her fiancé lovingly before tiptoeing through the room, making sure to grab her cell on the way, and down the stairs and through the house to travel down to her largest barn.

“Look at them all.” She whispers to herself as she opens the door and breathes in the smell of equine and the fresh bedding placed down the night before for them. “I love them all.” She mentions with a gentle nod as she wraps her arms around herself. It is a slightly chilly morning, one that certainly is perfect for riding, but a little colder than wanted for someone wearing only a short nightgown. She smiled softly as one of the horses neighed at her and another, nearer one, nickered. Walking over to the little mare which had just nickered, a smile broadens over her face. “You wanna go riding, don’t you?” She giggles before pausing slightly and tilting her head at the mare through the bars, “I do too.” She sighs and begins walking away from the mare, but the mare nickers again and Lyss can hear her pawing at the ground. The smile creeps up on her face again as she turns back around, suddenly grinning as a glint of happiness flickers in her eyes like fire, “Well, maybe a short run won’t do any harm…” Grabbing up the halter and lead on the mare’s door, she slid her finger across the name, Arienelle, before entering the stall and haltering the little mare and jumping up on her and lightly kicking her to make her trot out of the stall and out to just… run…

“Melody, c’mon! We need to go pick up Aunt Amber from the airport.” Will calls from the door of their apartment. It’s nothing special; one bedroom, one bathroom, one master suite, kitchen and dining area, and a sitting area with a small television. They had to get a second bed for Amber to sleep on while she’s staying with them for at least this year. Their parents are hoping the new set up with him and his family will provide her with the same stability, a little less sisterly drama, and maybe also a few more friends. Will hasn’t heard much about his littlest sister’s situation, but he does know it’s been rough on her.

“Coming Daddy!” Melody calls back as she runs out in a cute little outfit, perfect for meeting her aunt in. She reaches up to her father wanting to be picked up. With a light chuckle, Will scoops her up in his arms and plants a kiss on her shoulder. “We’ll be back with Amber soon.” He mentions as he gives Chelsea a quick kiss and heads out with his daughter.

Only an hour later, they arrive at the airport and find Amber, with her long, chocolate-colored hair and bright blue eyes, standing very lady-like on her own in a corner of the waiting room. Will immediately crinkles his nose at her attire. No wonder she doesn’t have any friends… Has she not compared her clothes to everyone else’s recently? He wonders to himself as he watches Melody run over and give her a big hug, unable to note his dear sister’s evident shock at being grabbed by the child in such a hug. “My dear brother,” She smiles as she gingerly picks up her niece and holds her against her hip, “how may you be on this lovely day? Your daughter seems to be a rather joyous type. I think you have raised her decently well. How is your fiancée, Chelsea? Is she well? I have unfortunately not seen her since I was very young.” Amber reminisces and questions as Will forces himself to walk over to his sister, still wondering how she could possibly even be allowed to wear a dress of such odd nature. Shouldn’t a girl her age be wearing skinny jeans and a t-shirt? No wonder their parents sent her to him.

“I’m doing pretty well, Amber, and thank you. I think Melody is normally a happy girl, but there are times when she begs to differ.” He smirks gently over at Mellie as Amber sets her back down on the ground, as lady-like as she had picked her up. Trying to push his thoughts of her odd behavior away, he continues, “Chels is great! She’s excited to see you, and I think she’d be happy to take you shopping sometime. She loves shopping and getting nice stuff.”

Amber’s eyes darken ever so slightly as she metaphorically crawls a little deeper into her shell. I like what I wear, though… She inwardly reminds herself, knowing how impolite it would be to show that she had caught his rude comment. I like who I am… Has my brother changed so much as to no longer accept me for who and what I am? I do not think I can believe what I am hearing right now. When Amber had told her parents about Lolita dresses and wanting to hold more elegance than people today do, they had been proud of her and willing to help her and support her. However, that love and support seems to have stayed in Florida when she decided to fly here. Ever so slightly, she shifts on her feet and drops her eyes down to the ground before gently curtsying. “Well, brother, I believe that dear Chelsea may be missing us by now, may we be off to see her?” She asks him curiously as she raises herself back up, pulling on a pair of small, white gloves which match the frills on her light blue dress.

“Yupp…” He picks his daughter up and starts out of the airport, hearing his sister’s light footsteps behind him, he decides to not help her with her carry on. “They told me they’d put your bags in my car. So, we should be good.” He mentions as they get to the car where, sure enough, her bags lay in the trunk, waiting to move into a new hanging closet. After settling themselves in the car, they head back to their home to once again see Chelsea.

Crisella drags her feet as she gets out of bed to hear her little, two-year-old son bawling his eyes out in the other room. “Ugh! I don’t wanna deal with this. It’s too early.” She complains to herself as she wanders in and picks him up out of his crib. He coos at her for a short moment before starting to cry again. Dragging him into the kitchen, she pulls out some leftover pizza and reheats it in the microwave and pours out some cheerios cereal, with the milk too, for Ardonel. “Bubby, you can’t keep crying so early in the morning.” She sighs as she sits down with him on her lap at the kitchen island.

“Bu’ Mommy! I hungwy.” Ardonel whines as he picks up the spoon and messily eats his cereal. Unable to hold her frown, Crisella giggles and smiles at him, pulling him off her lap to place him in his high chair with his cereal before getting her nuked pizza.
“You just couldn’t sleep another hour, could you?” She asks him with a slight smirk as she takes a bite and grabs him several napkins. She couldn’t love her son more, but she still wishes that his father was Christopher and not that jock from school. Cooing a little, her son continues spooning the yummy, honeyed cereal into his mouth, making Crisella smile a little more.

When Chelsea hears the door to her apartment open she turns off the TV and straightens her coral sundress that just touches the tops of her knees. She smiles as her fiancé walks in and waves at melody. When she finally sees Amber her smile falters slightly is that really the same girl? her clothes looked old and quite honestly outdated. Her surprise is soon masked with a warm smile as she hugs Amber "Hey Amber! Wow it's been so long. You're all grown up! How are you?" She catches Will's eye and pulls a face slightly before focusing her chocolate eyes back on Amber,trying her best to look upbeat and friendly. "Um do you have anything you want to do today? We can maybe go have lunch somewhere.. Uh unless you want to hang out here? I'm sure Alyssa would be happy to see you too" She said happily in her peppy,upbeat voice as she walked over to Will and fit herself close next to him. She didn't like being mean but really, what happened to this girl?Is it some sort of weird rebellion phase?

Amber grimaces slightly as she sees the shock in her soon-to-be sister-in-law's face and is hugged by her as well. Attempting to not harm Chelsea's feelings, she gingerly hugs her back, thankful for when she pulls away. Curtsying slightly with a nod of her head, she replies to Chelsea's frantic commenting and questioning, "Yes, my friend, I am fifteen years of age now. Unfortunately, this means I will be attending Appaloosa Plains Academy for my further schooling. My parents believe I will find a way to make more lasting friendships here. Anyhow, that is nothing to be concerned with, my brother mentioned you might like to take me shopping. It would be ever so rude of me to decline such an offer, yes?" Her gentle smile and soft eyes say everything she is feeling in the moment: Her sadness of not being accepted by them, her happiness to see them again anyways, and her willingness to please her family members.

William catches his love's gaze and returns her grimace back with equal or greater intensity. He really wishes the best for his youngest sister and is worried that people will make fun of her. The Archer name isn't exactly big anymore, so she doesn't have that automatic popularity to ride on. People will hurt her. He doesn't want to see her hurt, that's all. "Melody, sweetie, why don't you drag Amber's bag into your room, okay?" He asks her softly, but firmly. Melody nods her head and runs off with her aunt's baggage, struggling to carry it through the small apartment. "Well, you ladies do whatever you want, but be back for dinner tonight because I'm making something special." He grins and hustles himself over to his domain, the kitchen. Chelsea's not allowed to touch the stove or his coffeemaker anymore.

Crisella was shocked by his response and weakness to being hit and, no matter what he thought, he had deserved it. She knew that he wouldn't have listened to her words, simply thrown them away and ignored them. At least her hitting him would make him realize that she didn't appreciate him or his words in /her/ home. Well, it wasn't really hers, but she still considered it so. "Listen, Marcel, you can act that you're the poor little child who has been shipped off to his uncle's against his will, but my words weren't about to get your attention because you disappreciate me. However, I don't appreciate you calling me rude names..." She trailed off and glared at him for a moment before picking up the chocolates which he had dropped and shoving them back into his hands. "Hitting you was my way of saying 'stop playing games with me.'" She growled at him, able to see the sadness in his eyes. In all honesty, she did feel fairly awful for hitting him, but there was no way in hell she was about to show him her sympathy in the moment.

Marcel's question shocked her even further as he asked to be excused, and she didn't even respond to it; but, simply turned away and left to continue on to the kitchen. As much as she hated the child, she also knew his pain in being left at someone else's home with whom they were not even close to. Hadn't she had that happen when she was a baby? What about being kicked out of his home? That counts too. Whether he would believe it or not, this little encounter earned him an ally in the sometimes vicious world of Appaloosa Plains.

Melody shook her head at Chelsea's offer. "Daddy is taking me to see my horsey and then we're going to take him over to Alyssa's for something. I guess she bought him..." She trailed off at the mention of Alyssa buying him off the current owner because she loved Alyssa, but that would mean Darrin would become one of the practice horses for kids who wanted to learn English riding and she didn't really like that idea. It simply was not okay with her to lose Darrin as /her/ horse. "Have fun, though!" She giggled as she began walking back to her room yet again.

"Well, I don't think I do. Have fun with Amber." Will grins as he kisses her back and watches Amber follow her out, shaking his head. He closes the door behind himself before walking into the kitchen and grabbing some leftovers.

Amber obediently followed Chelsea out to the car without making a comment. She could already tell that this shopping trip would be miserable and nothing like those which her mom and her had had. Those had surprisingly been fun because her mom would help her pick out the most darling accessories and shoes to match with the dresses they had bought online together.

Chelsea gets in the car and puts on her seat belt and then waits for Amber to do the same before pulling out of the driveway and starting towards the mall. "So I think it's really exciting that you're staying with us! Um so what are things that you like doing now?" I bite my lip nervously and try to hide how awkward I feel. I mean we don't have much stuff in common but maybe we do? "What stores do you normally get your clothes from? Your dress is really cute I like it". That's not a complete lie I do like the color of it. I pull into the parking lot and walk into the mall with Amber "So just tell me when there's a store you want to go into!"

Lana rolled out of bed and sleepily and shuffled to the shower. After she was clean she got dressed in denim shorts and a light blue tank top. After fixing her makeup and blow drying her hair she walked downstairs to find her brother sitting on the couch watching tv "Hey Josh I really want coffee so if you drive me to Starbucks then I'll pay for yours?" she pouted a little and he just stared at her for awhile before shaking his head and saying "No, get off your lazy ass and just walk there yourself". Lana sighed but slipped her feet into her flip flops and grabbed her purse before walking outside and down the sidewalk to the coffee shop. She walked past Subway and saw her reflection in the window so she stopped and started fixing her hair standing in front of the restaurant.

Amber sighed as she pulled herself into the car and listened to Chelsea's ramble. She wasn't exactly excited to be living with them, especially after the not-so-warm welcome she received. "On occasion, I am known to ride ponies still and sometimes entered in cart shows with little shetland ponies back home. However, here there does not seem to be as much of a demand for such sport, so I am unsure of what I shall do with my time." She mentioned in a soft tone, still melodic like a child's in texture and yet improperly mature for her age. She sat in the car with her head facing straight forward and her back just as straight with her hands sitting on her lap, the right over top of the left, with her legs leaning to one side as her feet found the left corner against the car seat most appropriate. Anyone who saw her would have thought she was some sort of woman directly out of the royalty of England or something.

As Chelsea asked her where she preferred to shop, she realized this shopping trip would be rather odd. "It is expected for mother and I to shop only for matching shoes and accessories. We have found it best to find the top-quality dresses online, then match them with accessories from stores nearby. However, I have yet to see any stores I would like..." Amber trailed off in her thought for a moment before deciding what to add onto that. "I suppose there are stores which you often shop, yes?" She asked softly, tilting her head and glancing sideways over at her ever so slightly out of curiosity.

~~~
Crisella heard Marcel's words and smiled softly to herself. She had no intention of doing anything besides succeeding in winning over Christopher's heart. However, how did Marcel know that? And since he did, why doesn't Christopher just let something happen between the two of them? There was no way anyone could ever find out about it. She sighed as she entered the kitchen and saw her son nomming happily on the candy which Christopher had likely given to the child to calm him. "You know, candy isn't good for him all the time..." She mentioned softly as she stole her son back from Christopher and kissed his cheek. "Who's my cutest Ardie ever?" She giggled as she rubbed her nose against the spot she had just kissed on his cheek. He cooed at her and put his hand on her cheek as he grinned from ear to ear. "Aww, Christopher, isn't he adorable?" She asked him softly, looking up to her love with bright eyes.
Chelsea smiled awkwardly at Amber and started walking down to one of her favorite stores called Madewell. "So this is probably my favorite store" she said happily as she walked into the store filled with preppy ish sweaters and jeans. She began to look through and pick out a few tops for herself "Get whatever seems nice to you it's my treat!" Chelsea's arms soon became full of jeans, tops and a few dresses "Amber! Find anything yet?" She knew that her false happiness probably appeared bitchy but Amber could try a little harder too! She just had to keep a smile on her face and remember that she was doing this for Will, Amber was going to be her sister-in law soon and she needed to treat her like family.
************************
Josh sighed heavily and his grip tightened around his cell phone "Orlene, you know it's not that easy. You were horrible to me and I could be nice and just let you walk back into my life but honestly, that's not how things work" he angrily shut his eyes and stood up from the couch to pace around the room. "I think that if you're that serious about having me in your life then you're going to have to try a hell of a lot harder!" the end of his sentence became more angry and his voice became close to yelling. Then, the anger drained out of him and he slumped onto the couch. "Orlene" he whispered softly "Just, please I.." he shook his head and then hung up the phone.
Crisella sighed sadly as Christopher simply left without saying anything at all. Hanging her head slightly, she hugged Ardonel closer to her before gently fixing his hair and listening to his question as he slurped up some of the liquid made by the sucker and his own saliva, "What wrong?" Ardonel's big, lovely eyes looked up at her with emotions that he wouldn't yet be able to understand. However, she didn't answer his question verbally, but instead touched her nose to his and sadly shook her head as she walked out with him to go back to his nursery.
She couldn't begin to understand how either Christopher or Marcel felt, but she still wanted to be able to help them both. Even though they had lost a sister and a mother, they should still be happy they had her to love and to love them like she hadn't ever really had. The man who raised her only did so to keep her "out of the streets," as he so often reminded her of what the orphanage children were like, and she hadn't ever really loved or been loved back so entirely and openly until Ardonel. She snuggled him ever closer as she thought of this and sat down in the chair to read a storybook to him called The Velveteen Rabbit.
~~~

Amber wandered around the store for a little while upon Chelsea's request, but wasn't capable of finding any accessories to match the frilly Lolita-styled dresses which she owned. As she wandered, she noted how many clothes Chelsea appeared to be interested in for herself and wanted to remind her how Will's paycheck isn't much and how her parents are also not going to be the ones paying for Chelsea's unnecessary shopping habits. Although, Amber knew she wasn't one to speak because she would have picked out several expensive Lolita dresses had it been such a shop.

She quickly snatched up a few random things that looked semi-decent off the shelves and walked over to her. "Yes, I found this blouse and skirt." She mentioned softly with a nod as she held them out for Chelsea to see and hopefully approve as enough. She really had no plans to even wear those clothes either, though, so in the end it didn't entirely matter... just as long as it got her through the shopping trip.

Chelsea's face brightened when she saw that Amber was taking interest in the clothes "okay those are cute!" Chelsea went into the nearest dressing room and started trying on all of the clothes. Some of the tops didn't look nearly nice enough for the crazy prices but she managed to find a nice pair of jeans and a pretty sweater that she liked "Ok Amber I think I'm going to get these two things" I walked up to the counter and paid for the clothes with my credit card. I got money at school for tutoring and I'm pretty sure this month we can cover a little shopping. I didn't go crazy with spending money in this store. Besides, I need new jeans. I turn to Amber "Did you like those clothes? Do you want me to buy them for you?" I asked sweetly

Amber sighed and handed her the clothes and smiled back at her just as falsely sweet as Chelsea's voice had sounded. "I believe these two items are, in the very least, suitable." She shrugged and walked over to the counter with Chelsea, not exactly planning to ever wear them unless she absolutely had to. The clothes here reminded her of what everyone expects from someone, not who they actually are. Pulling out her phone, Amber went ahead and sent a quick text to her mother back in Florida: Hello, mother, I miss you ever so much. I have yet to start school and I already feel so excluded and brushed away... Do you really think I will be capable of finding a friend?

Amber's mother received her text and replied with a simple I'm Sorry and Remember that I love you so much darling! and left it at that. Amber understood that it meant the whole issue was put into her hands. All her mother could do for her was sympathize with her and love her, but she couldn't support her or back her up anymore.

Am I not too young for this? Being shoved into adulthood and its cruelties before even becoming such a being... is not the life I had envisioned living, even here. She thought as she watched the last of the clothes being rung up and shoved into a plastic bag together.
