"It's not for me, it's for her" The vampire said, coming up to the large man holding the elf. Otto held the lantern up and saw a wound on her shoulder.

"Quick, put her on this table" Otto said, indicating a empty table, while he started to pull some medical equipment. "Tim, I need you to get some more oil lanterns for some more light. He brought up a cloth, a pice of paper and a lead pencil. Otto put pressure on the wound and scribbled a note on the paper. "There is a potion maker on Lexier and 8th, there is a new potion that can stop her from turning ONLY if we give it to her in time. Some one please go run and get it!" He slapped the note down at the end of the table. And looked at the wound.

"Some torn muscle, looks like someone yanked the vampire off, the subclavian vein is ok... damn the subclavian artery is cut" He pulled out a stethoscope and listened. "Her heart beat is still there" He then pulled out a strange device ( http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... fusion.jpg ) "Who here wants to volunteer some blood, you will be weak for a few hours, but you might just save her life"

Talos half wondered if the Doctor knew what he was doing, but he did not have the knowledge to seek out another, nor did they have the time. Placing Ellie gently on the table, he tries to ignore all the medical jargon spouting out of the man's mouth. It didn't seem relevant, to him. The supposed potion to stop her turning was another thing that he didn't care much about- if she turned, she turned. There wasn't anything he could do about it, potion or no.

At the matter of blood, however, Talos had to pause in his own thoughts. Alek was obviously not a candidate. The Doctor hadn't offered any of his blood, probably as that would make the procedure more difficult. That left the other man- whose blood could be tainted for all he knew- and Talos' own.

That was what gave him pause. Giving his blood to Ellie could be catastrophic for a number of reasons. It could counteract her turning on its own, Holy as it was, or it might put her in constant, searing pain. There was also the matter that it may just give her a taste for his blood, if she turned. Not that it would avail her any advantage in his eyes, but it would make their already strained relationship all the more so.

But, most importantly, it would bind her to the Light he commanded. And that would be both blessing and curse.

Talos provides his forearm, assuming that to be where the blood would be able to be extracted. "Take mine," he orders; it was not offered as an option.

Alek began to pace back and forth, his mind racing. Ellie was going to be a half-ling no matter what they did. There was no stopping that now. He winced and punched a beam support with the side of his fist. "Dammit.." He growled softly.

He went back to her side, his brows furrowed. "Brother.." He muttered, although he did nothing about it. The vampire looked at the Templar, his jaw tight. Worry and agonizing restraint held him back from the still bleeding woman, although he was still bleeding blood he had drained himself. It would be sooner than normal he would have to feed again. He gritted his teeth before leaning down to speak to Talos in a whispered tone. "They do not turn until their first feeding.. The taint is still there.. The craving is still there.. But until blood touches their lips, they remain alive. A half-ling, they called it." He murmured.

His eyes shifted to the doctor then back to Ellie before adding quickly, "We will have to keep her from feeding on either one of you.." He whispered before backing off again, into the dark. Alek remained in the room, though, not offering to get the potion that the doctor recommended. He knew it was already too late, and besides that he refused to leave by Ellie's side.

He went back to pacing steadily in the room, quickly and silently, like a shadow in the light.

Thirst.

Everything was so dry. Nothing but desert as far as Ellie's eyes could see. Sweat trickled down her skin and made it sticky.

She needed water...

The blood in Ellie's body began to congeal as if she were already postmortem. The bleeding slowed and even though her injury was very extent, she was clotting. Of her own devices the elf-girl was beginning to, very slowly, heal herself.

There was no doubt about why this was occurring. A vampire had bitten her and injected his poison into her blood stream. It was not counteracting against the wound inflicted on the poor girl. Not every time that a vampire fed on a victim did they become half-turned. It had been purposeful, Ellie's turning. The virus had been placed explicitly into her veins and arteries.

The evidence was clear.

Secreting himself into the structure through the shadows, the man stands silent as death, and just as invisible.

He watches the proceedings with curiosity, ponderous. The underling had done excellent work, if his senses did not deceive.

There was fever, clotting, the stench of necrosis. The blood did not appeal to him, tainted as it was by a lesser fiend than he.

Still. She was touched, and soon she would make an excellent Thrall.

And a bargaining chip.

Silent as he came, he is gone through the shadows once more.

THe large man held out his arm.
"Take mine" he said. Otto put each needle into a glass of water near by and pulled up a little on the plunger a little, then pressed down until water came out both and he turned a dial on the device. HE then took a small rope, put it around his upper arm, right above the the crook of his and pulled until he could see see an artery, and he stuck the needle in. He did the same with the elf.

Otto then dumped some clear liquid onto a cloth and started to dab at the wound, and where it made contact with blood, it bubbled and hissed. He took down at the elf feet for a split second.

"Can someone please go get that damn potion! It maybe a small chance of stoping her changing, but there is still that CHANCE!" and Otto quickly returned to his work. He heard the vampire murmuring behind him, but he paid no attention, too focused on his work. He opened a lantern and put a piece of metal in there, getting it hot for cauterizing. He took the syringe and pumped it four times times, trying to get more blood into the elf. The cut artery spurted some more, and he quickly dabbed it. He took out two small clamps, a needle and some special thread.

"Need to do this quick" he murmured to himself. He put each clamp on each side of the cut portion of the exposed artery, and quickly started to sew it close, his fingers almost loosing his grip in the blood.

Talos was still listening to Alek's explanation as to why she wouldn't need blood- when the Doctor decided to take it from him anyway. Frowning slightly, he sighs inwardly. There was nothing he could do about it now. The sensation of having his blood drained from him was... unsettling, to say the least.

He had felt a distinctly... wrong presence when it had happened. Perhaps it was just the procedure as a whole. Either way, once his arm was back under his own control, he makes sure to ready his hammer once again. "How long until we can leave this place," he rumbles out questioningly, both to Alek and the doctor.

Alek turned around to Otto, almost twisting on the heel of his boot. "You do realize that 'chance' you speak of does not exist?" He pointed to Ellie. "There is no cure for being bitten. Although sellers would love for you to think that way. They make high profit off potions that they say 'might' work if given in time. And when you try to argue about it, they will tell you that you didn't get it for them in time." His golden hues blazed like the sun. He thought the doctor was an idiot.

He turned away from Otto with a growl. 'Ellie, damned girl! You had to get yourself into this mess, to become damned like me..' He gritted his teeth and punched the counter as hard as he could, which probably resulted in a hole in it. Alek was in shear misery. Everything he cared for was eventually taken away from him. At least Ellie was still alive... For now.

Now there was a choice he had to make. To keep her alive or to let her out of her misery as quickly as possible.

He knew what Talos would most likely suggest.

The vampire took in a deep breath, the stink of blood in the air filling his nostrils. 'Why...?'

It was not a minute after Ellie's body began to absorb the paladin's blood that the rend in her shoulder began to mend. The tiny mechanical pieces of Ellie's skeletal structure disappeared beneath raw, pink, skin. And then seconds later Ellie's eyes shot open and she screamed in absolute horror.

The girl pushed the doctor away, pushing the man onto his backside, as she began to claw away at her shoulder. Ellie tore the tube of blood from her body, spilling Talos's life fluid on the floor.

Blood.

The screams from Ellie cut off abruptly. Her breathing grew heavy and irregular. The natural kindness in her eyes had died away into savage need.

Her eyes trailed up from the pool of blood on the floor, past the doctor trying to right himself onto his feet again, and then onto Talos.

Talos knew that look. It was a look he had received oft during his life, and it was never pleasant.

Gritting his teeth, he knew that, if he were to retaliate- or even strike preemptively, Alek would descend upon him as well. His help be damned; they were both Vampires now, and they would watch out for one another over him.

It was a difficult situation, to be certain. And to make matters worse, being drained of his blood left him weakened. Perilous, indeed.

Whatever he did, he would not allow her to feed on him.

Loosing his hammer, he places the head of it on the ground before himself. "Ellie," he rumbles warningly. "Fight it." It was a simple order, a request even, but it was all he could do if he didn't wish to harm her. In the back of his mind, however, he remained ready; if she charged at him, as he feared she might, he would erect a barrier of light around himself. She could penetrate it with enough persistence, but it would harm her greatly.

Alek's eyes shifted over to Ellie and within a second, he was by her side holding her shoulders. "Ellie.." He said, although none too gentle. "Ellie! Snap out of it!" He growled. If she went for Talos, he would do his damnedest to stop her.

It pained him more than most would ever realize that Ellie had changed. That she was giving into her darker side. "It's me, Alek. You need to fight this urge, Ellie. If not for yourself, but for me. Ellie, I know it's difficult and it hurts but you must fight it. You can bite, claw or whatever you want to me. But please come back to me.."

This also gave Talos a problem. Because Alek was in between, it was possible that Alek's cloak could block out most of the effects of the light that he had. He had positioned himself just right between Ellie and Talos to protect her as long as he could. "I won't let you hate yourself later... Please fight it.." Alek whispered, as if he were talking about his own mistakes.

A heavy tension hung in the air of the tavern. There was not a single word spoken after Alek had told Ellie to fight the urges coursing through her. The girl didn't move. Her thoughts waged war inside her mind; the light battling the dark.

And then finally her eyes shifted to Alek's.

Ellie broke into tears and wrapped her arms around the vampire's waist. She buried her face into his torso as her arm hung limp at her side. It was still healing and the pain was excruciating. Ellie's fingernails dug into Alek's back and she screamed into his body.

Not only did her healing injury hurt but Talos's blood that ran through her body burned Ellie from the inside. The virus the vampire implanted into her body was mutating Ellie's cells but Talos's holy blood destroyed them. But the vampiric infection continued to spread, unwilling to die inside the girl just yet.

Talos' intense stance did not break even after Ellie's emotional breakdown. He had to remain aware, not drop his guard, even for a moment. Shouldering his Warhammer, he walks over to Otto to help the probably rather stunned man stand, while still keeping his eyes on the two Vampires.

"I think our need with your assistance has passed," he remarks grimly. "What payment do you request?"

He didn't really have anything else to say, as it was at a point where he was simply a background guardian.

Alek's gold hues burned with worry as his eyes met with hers. Ellie's tears did not make him feel much better. As gently as he could, he wrapped his own arms around her, whispering 'shhh' sounds to try to sooth her as best he could. He could not understand the pain she was going through, nor would he pretend to know.

"It will be alright, Ellie.." He murmured softly.

He turned his attention towards Talos and Otto. "Brother, any payment for him is my responsibility.." He gave Talos a sorrowful look, as if he were apologizing to the man for what he had to deal with so far. 'Maybe he should of killed me on sight..' Alek thought woefully. He would have a talk with Talos about this later on. "Ellie.. Perhaps we should let you rest.." He said, attempting to pick the woman up. They had rented a room here, although they had no intent to remain here.

The lights flipped back on with a steady hum. A woman with floppy ears and a crooked tooth came into the room and scowled in a way that only orcs could do. She pointed an accusing finger straight at Talos, since he was the largest and probably the one responsible.

"You! How dare you come into my establishment and destroy it! Look at the mess you've made!" she bellowed at him. The power of her voice was impressive.

"First I have to deal with my bartender falling out in the back room," she said as she planted her hands on her voluptuous hips. "Then I hear all kinds of racket coming from inside here but I cannot attend because I am trying to save a human man's life. Then he goes and turns belly up on me only for me to come out here and see blood everywhere!"

"Out!" Olgra said. "Out! Out! Out!" She made a shooing gesture with both of her hands as she approached Talos, Otto, Ellie, and Alek. Her blue eyes shifted to the elf girl in Alek's arms and she gasped. It wasn't due to the massive amount of blood down the girl's body but out of recognition.

"Ellisandre Coulter! Tink is going to have your hide if she finds out you did anything to her machinery!" Olgra chastised.

Ellie moaned out of pain and trepidation at hearing what Olgra said.

Talos didn't seem to wait on Otto's request for payment very long. "An appreciated act of kindness, then," he says, bowing his head to the man.

Around that time, the voluptuous Orc comes barging in, spouting off demands and complaints like a Goblin rocket launcher. The lights had come back, too, Talos noted as he allows his bird to float to the ground and go dormant. He realized most of the complaints were directed at him.

"Orc," he says, not with disdain, but with authority. "I will leave if you request it, but I will not bring my charges into danger." He gestures to Ellie and Alek. "My only condition for leaving with haste is that you tell me where I can bring them that is safe. If you cannot provide information on such a location, you will find me much more difficult to remove."

He had intended to leave as soon as possible anyway, really, but this gave him a chance to learn of a safe haven where the two of them could recuperate. He crosses his arms, standing firm against the Orc's advance.

"Talos, we have to leave, it is her private property." he said coming up behind him. "I would say my mansion, but my parents don't like surprise strangers. We also can't go to a hospital, they don't allow vampires," he said eyeing the vampires and pulling his shirt collar closer to his neck.

"Talos, we shall leave, as she requests.." Alek stated simply. Turning to the Orc woman. "I apologize for the problems we may have cause, madam.. Please accept this as a token of my sincere apology.." He handed her a few coins. They were high in value here and should be more than enough to pay for the 'damage' they had caused.

Alek gently tried to pick up Ellie in a bridal-style hold. If not, he would try to coax her as best he could to start walking with his help. "Ellie, we must go.." He murmured gently. There had to be somewhere else they could go before the sun rose.

Either way, he would be leaving soon, only glancing to Talos to see if he the man was following.

Small, quiet sounds of pain came from Ellie as she was lifted into Alek's arms. Her hands held him around the neck and the fledgling-halfling rested her cheek against Alek's chest. There was no heartbeat, unlike Talos's. She could hear his from half a room away. Tears flowed down the girl's cheek.

"I'll not take your money," Olgra said, placing her massive hands on her even more massive, but curvy, hips. "But you will do what I say. You take that poor girl to Tink down at the Docks," Olgra said waggling a finger at all of them. The look she gave them all said that they had no other choice but to follow her command.

"Tink will fix that girl right up again. That young woman is a genius when it comes to fixin' things and people. Go on now," Olgra said, walking toward them all, shooing them out.

"Out you go!"

"Thank you," Talos says simply. He wasn't sure if he meant it or not, truth be told, but he follows the advice given. They had a destination, and that was a comfort. Bowing his head formally, he slings his hammer onto his back and follows Alek out, pausing a moment to regard the Doctor.

"You may follow if you like," he rumbles out to him. With that, he carries on out the door.

(OOC: what vampire rules are we following here? Since we are doing steam punk/ victorian, I thought of Bram Stocker's Dracula vampire rules)

Otto followed Talos and everybody else out of the bar.

"Talos, I wouldn't follow Olgra's advice about going to see Tink. Lets just say that she is not that well respected in the medical community. I believe there is one hospital that does allow vampire through their doors.
