Description

Josephine Dezantro

Image

Age: 20
Sex: Female
Height: 5’ 8”
Weight: 135 lbs
Voice Example: Josephine

Basic Personality: Josephine Dezantro is proud, confident, stubborn, and somewhat opinionated. However, when one can look past her stubborn and opinionated views, they’ll see a deeply troubled, shy, and insecure young woman who is searching for answers. She can be somewhat childish when she doesn’t get her way, though she is making efforts to overcome that habit. She’s not incredibly trusting. And even when her trust is earned there’s always this one inescapable barrier preventing her from truly expressing herself. Her temper is quick to flare, but even so she operates with a calm, honorable mindset, never letting her emotions run rampant no matter how strongly they may burn within her heart.

Basic Background: Josephine Dezantro was born twenty summers ago to a wealthy family in Triveila. Her parents were the landowners upon whose property numerous farmers and ranchers ran their businesses. As such they were never strapped for money, and Josephine grew up with anything and everything she wanted
Except friends. Despite her loneliness, she grew up relatively happy until she turned 12 and began learning self defense and swordplay. The sword literally changed her life, and not necessarily for the better. Due to a family tragedy when she was 13, Josephine left home forever and began wandering the world searching for purpose and a life worth living. She has become a seasoned wandering warrior and bears numerous scars because of it. Starting very young in this business they were bound to happen, and each tells a story of the life of a girl who still doesn’t know what she wants or needs in life

So begins...

Lonán nodded and thought his next words carefully. ”You’re welcome, Miss Dezantro.” he replied to her thanks as he heard her mention battle, which made him raise an eyebrow with great interest. Whether it was his interest in knowing more about her, or the fact his actual curiosity about her battles, he was now very interested in getting to know Josephine at this point.

”I’d love to hear about those battles Miss Dezantro. I could share some stories of battles I or my ancestors took part in.” he suggested. ”That is, if you wish to speak of them?” After he spoke his mind raced to think back on all the stories of his ancestors and of the Old Wolf he could think of, just in case she said yes. He’d hopefully have enough to last till the evening when they’d reach the crossroads.

Josephine nodded her head slowly, closing her eyes and keeping her head forward.

"I suppose an exchange of stories is agreeable.”

She flicked a few strands of hair out of her face.

"May I request that you share first, Sir Arzura? I'm not very good with picking examples from a past filled with so many options.”

Lonán nodded as Josephine asked him to share first. ”Let me think.. Aha! I believe I have just the one!” He said as he took a brief look at the skies as he grew a small smile. ”The Four Day Battle Of the Iron Wolf and the Bandit Clan Zankor. The story takes place in a village upon the Sands of Saharan....”

——

Magnus Arzura had recently, along with several soldiers sent by the Saharan Military itself, been sent to the village to defend it from an oncoming band of bandits and brawlers who have often come to this village to rob them of great portions of their food and water the past few seasons. Never had he thought he’d find evidence of his Clan’s Ancestral Rivals to be the ringleaders.

“Zankor.” He hissed angrily as he tossed the symbolic emblem of said Clan to the ground.

“Friends of yours Iron Wolf?” Asked a soldier as Magnus gave out a humorless laugh.

“Hardly. They have an ancient grudge with my Clan. They are unpredictable, and can go from honorable to dishonorable as they see fit, the serpents. I’ve known some members of that clan who have violated Saharan Laws for their own amusement.” The Iron Wolf explained, “If Their Leader sees me, I fear a reigniting of an old feud between our clans is inevitable. Especially As I have been chosen to wear the Helm of the Berserker, to show my candidacy in my own Clan to be the next Leader.” He added the latter part calmly, as he knew his Elder brother and Father had fallen in battle weeks before.

——

On the First day of the Battle, Magnus had helped the soldiers lay out traps to keep the bandits from charging in. The second and third were skirmishes on both sides coordinated by Magnus and the Captain of the Military. But then, on the fourth, The Bandit Leader Issued his challenge in single combat for the fate of the village.

Magnus walked with a grim expression on his face, as he looked at himself with his armor on, Helm under arm.

“Arzura! Your Bloodline ends here!” The Zankor Chieftain yelled out in spite and anger, as Magnus seemed to look at the intimidating opponent with a grim, sad look that gave way to a steely determination, his eyes gleaming like emeralds in his anger.

“As Long as Heresta holds need for the Arzura Clan to fight for Saharan, Nay the Entire world if she wills it, My bloodline will not die this day!” He put on his helmet and charged off towards his foe, drawing his Sword as he charged. “Heresta witness me!!”

——

”...It was a long duel, but before the hot noon day sun rose, The Leader’s Head was taken from his shoulders and sent to the Capital to be placed on a pike. The Zankor Clan withdrew from the village. My grandfather proved himself to be the Next Leader of the Arzura Clan for that day.” Lonán concluded as he kept riding, having very much the same face his grandfather wore on that day. ”That was also the only day, I ever heard my grandfather admit he was afraid.”

Josephine kept an ear open to Lonan's story, though her eyes wandered about the landscape to keep her watchful gaze on the horizon line searching for threats. When he finished his story, she was looking out ahead.

”Quite the interesting tale, Sir Arzura.” She said over her shoulder.

”I'm guessing that despite the grim history between them your father had some familiarity with the enemy Chieftan to gaze upon him with any level of sadness. Or perhaps he was saddened to cut down a warrior of this man's caliber. Would I be accurate in either guess?”

Aetrius remained silent all the while Lolan and their recent companion Josephine engaged in conversation, as well as Rose and Kieran talked amongst themselves in the back of the group. But as Kieran looked ahead, she saw that Aetrius was clearly upset or at least in a weird mindset, so she caused their horse to trot up to Aetrius' and Linde's horse and was currently wearing an armor set that Aetrius loaned her, and looked at Aetrius as she tried to figure out what was wrong, "You alright, Kor-I mean Aetrius? You see...Off." she asked with a genuine sense of concern in her voice.

Aetrius' right eyebrow twitched at Kieran's question and remained silent, but spoke up after a minute, "It's nothing, Kie. I'm fine." she said as her voice gave way to clearly not being alright, as it was a different tone and seemed to crack under some sort of stress. Kieran eyed them weirdly, and then grinned, "You sure it's not something Linde said...Or did?" she said softly in Aetrius' ear, as she looked back at Linde and gave her a wink and sly grin. Aetrius rolled her eyes and groaned as she slightly slouched again in the saddle, "What are you trying to get at, Kieran?" she said with an obviously annoyed tone. Kieran chuckled and shook her head, "Oh please, you know exactly what I'm getting at. You two have...ya know, right?" she gave her sister a teasing grin as they continued heading forward. Aetrius felt her face and ears turn a bright red color as she heard Kieran talk, and she shook her head and growled at Kieran. "Th-that isn't exactly a question to ask..." she asked as she only felt her face grow a darker shade of red.

Kieran gave her sister a hardy chuckle and playfully punched her arm, "I'm just messing with you, Aetri. You know that, right?" she couldn't help but continue to chuckle at the expense of Aetrius, who only slumped more into the saddle as they continued to Cre' Est.

Lonán slightly twitched when Josephine asked about a detail he left out of the story. ”Somewhat, Yes. My Grandfather knew the Leader. He said he was once someone who had the potential to turn Zankor Clan around. But someone of Noble birth did something to him that made him quickly fall to the Clan’s habits.” he explained. He then took a deep breath before continuing.

”As for the grim expression, what He never told anyone other then my grandmother and myself Miss Dezantro was that the Clan leader was sick. Wasn’t expected to see the next season. So he took the Warrior’s way out. My grandfather was grim that the circumstances made what was a rivalry to essentially for as long as that duel was, Saharan’s longest suicide note.” He said, with a Shake of his head. ”Which also left the Zankor Clan leadership vacant for the other members to squabble over for years. My grandfather knew there was no other option when the challenge was given.”

He looked as he noticed Kieran had gone up to Aetrius. ”At any rate Miss Dezantro, that’s the end of the story. Do you have one lined up and ready to go?” He asked with a small grin on his face, keeping an eye and ear on his surroundings.

Josephine listened intently to the story, soaking in every detail.

”I see... So your grandfather was indeed an honorable warrior.” She said quietly.

”So this enemy Clan Leader who used the duel to meet his Gods. Did your grandfather ever say anything about his illness?”

She looked over her shoulder.

”Or did he not know anything about it other than he was ill?”

Lonán shifted a bit in his saddle as Josephine asked her next question. ”Well Miss Dezantro, He never fully explained it but apparently when my grandfather examined his body he discovered some sort of, growth within the right side of his torso. Before Dawn the Zankor Leader had trouble getting up that morning because he had some sort of episode that made him vomit his supper from the night before.” Lonán said, putting on a face that looked like he was trying to remember the exact words of his grandfather.

”In the end though; whatever it was. It was something that was slowly, if it wasn’t already, killing the man. So in the end, all the Old Wolf ever did in that duel was put a sick man out of his misery. It was a fair duel in the end, between two rival clans. Such was the destinies of Zankor and Arzura clans it seems. We always seem to want to defeat one another.” Lonán said with a note of conclusion. ”I just hope the current Zankor clan leadership can just let old grudges lie, if they figured out who would be running them that is.”

He looked ahead towards Bree and one of the riders upon her. ”What say you Linde? Does the condition I just described mean anything of medical note?”

Josephine listened and her eyes narrowed.

"Hmm." She mumbled.

Upon his question, Linde turned her head to look at Lonan.

"Without seeing the body myself I can only speculate. But if it was a growth that was found within the body then I'm inclined to believe it was natural causes. Cancer, most likely."

Josephine nodded.

"That would be my guess as well... How unfortunate... I have to wonder if your grandfather truly felt any sense of victory in such a bout." She said quietly, more to herself than to anyone else.

Lonán listened to Linde’s opinion and nodded silently. When Josephine spoke next he adopted a somewhat of an uncertain expression. However, knowing how often The Old Wolf would most likely travel to other kingdoms to sell off some of his other wares aside from his weaponry, there’d be a good chance to run into him. ”Well, I don’t really know that answer for sure Miss Dezantro. The only person I feel that can answer that is my grandfather. And no, we don’t have to go all the way to Saharan. He’s retired from warrior life and is a Blacksmith. I think we’re getting close to the time he packs up his wares and goes on a trade caravan to sell his services. Odds are if you run into him you can ask him.” He said with a hopeful grin.

That’d be a fun thing indeed. It’d be the first time in years he’s seen the Old Wolf. He definitely would greet him the way he always would Zedar though. And Lonán might not be looking forward to a punch in the face for it. It’d devolve into an arm wrestling competition. He returned his focus back on the road. He waited to see if Josephine would share her story before they reached the Fork in the road.

Aetrius listened to the others as they spoke of their stories and tales, and couldn't help but admit that some were indeed intriguing, and she had interest, at least it was until Lolan brought up Saharan. Her face drooped a little and she softly said, "Saharan...I haven't been back home in...years..." she said rather sadly, which resulted in Kieran to look at her sister with an equally sad look, and gently placed a hand on her shoulder for a brief moment. "It has been a while since we were last home...What, six years now...?" she asked rather redundantly, which resulted in Aetrius silently nodding. But eventually she perked up again a little and peered over her shoulder at Linde, "If you don't mind me asking...What is Cre' Est like, anyway..? I've never been there, even with all the places I've been to..." she said as she turned back to the way they were headed, a bit of a sad look remained on her face as she reminisced about Saharan, and how she actually missed home, but knew she could never go back, at least not by herself.

Josephine only nodded as Lonan answered about his grandfather.

Meanwhile, Linde smiled at Aetri and chuckled softly.

"The capital city of Cre' Est is a very vibrant and welcoming place. There's lots to see and even more to do. I'm certain you'll enjoy your stay."

Aetrius listened as Linde told her that she would like Cre' Est, and that it was welcoming to everyone, even her. She couldn't help but chuckle at that and shook her head, "They won't welcome someone like me...Trust me...But...Perhaps I'll like it there..." she said softly, and they kept on ahead, eventually coming up to that three way split in the road, Aetrius looked at the others and awaited for them.

As they approached the split, Josephine veered right following the advice of the others. Since they agreed to part ways later on down the road she stayed behind Aetrius' horse as they continued with the sun going down. And then they pitched camp.

Josephine pitched her tent on the opposite side of camp from the others, wishing for a respectable distance for her sleeping space. But when it came to eating, she sat around the fire and elected to sit next to Kyero, of all people. And the entire time she tried to sneak peeks beneath his hood to see his face, but Kyero's subtle turns of his head kept her from seeing him. And it was obviously irritating her.

And as they ate, she did so in silence while the others shared small talk.

”Lonan. Do you have anymore stories about your grandfather?”

As they made their way and continued on down the path at the three way forked path, the sun eventually began to go down, and they soon made camp in a large enough and assumed to be safe enough place for them to make camp. Once they decided to set up camp there, they unloaded their supplies, and as Rose and the others set up camp, pitching the tents and making a fire, Aetrius and Kieran agreed to go hunting for dinner. Aetrius grabbed her bow and hunting knife, and took off with Kieran into the woods, in search of food. They made their way rather deep into the woods when Kieran spoke softly to Aetrius, "How long have you been with them..? The group, I mean? And, what was her name again, Linde?" she questioned as she stayed behind the one with a bow, Aetrius nodded silently as they proceeded through the forest in search for food.

They crouched low behind a rather large rock, "I've been with them for a few weeks now...About a month now, I believe? I originally met them in Atlum, helped a village, and then...Kind of went to Veilbrand when I heard you were there..." she said softly, voice growing a bit soft as she spoke of the later. "I found the man that hurt you, Kieran...I made him pay...and Linde? Heh, what she did to him...Would have even made mom proud. And as for when we got together...Only a few weeks ago." she turned back and examined the surroundings, still no sign of any game around. Kieran listened to Aetrius tell of her time in Atlum with the others and how she found her assailant and what happened to him, and how their mother would have been proud, she chuckled and nodded, "I'm sure mother would have been proud of what you and Linde did...Thank you, Aetrius...I'm...I'm just happy to see you...I've missed you.." she said softly, as she looked down and gently placed her hand on Aetrius' and gently squeezed it, which Aetrius only did in return. She was about to answer, but a noise came off from in the distance, as they peered over their hiding spot, they spotted a massive buck, slowly making its way through the forest. Aetrius readied her bow and kept her eye trailing it as the deer slowly made its way past them, she slowly rose up, and let the arrow loose, watching as it tagged the deer by piercing its hind leg and it took off as well as it could, with an obvious limp.

The two girls nodded at each other and took off after it, following the blood trail at a decent pace, making sure to remember where they came from and where they were headed. Eventually they arrived at a clearing, where the deer was clearly slowing down as they saw plenty of blood puddles and patches all around, Aetrius readied another arrow and watched as it pierced the deer's heart and the buck fell over, its last breath exiting its mouth as it crumbled to the ground. Aetrius nodded at Kieran and they both made their way to the deer, Aetrius retrieved her arrow from the door, and they picked it up and made their way back to where the others were. As they made their way back to the camp, they had only been gone for about an hour, at maximum at least two. But they dropped the deer on the table and Kieran began prepping the other food as Aetrius began her work on the deer.

The others were talking, setting the tent up, and what not, as Aetrius took out her hunter's knife and began to make swift and easy work of the deer, its pelt and skin came off like as if they were nothing, and she tossed it to Kieran for her to clean it and prepare it for selling later on when they arrived at Cre' Est. But after that, that is where Aetrius' skills with hunting shone through, she make a quick and swift swipe on the deer's belly, and its guts slowly poured out, after she removed the entrails and blood and gore, she gave them to Kieran as well, as Saharan's never waste product from an animal, as well as they could make simple and delicious meals with the liver and stomach. Once Aetrius was finished cutting the meat into pieces and sections, she put aside what they'd be using for tonight, and then put the rest in salt so it would be kept preserved for a later date. She gathered some spices, herbs, vegetables, and some eggs and made a simple meal of venison, eggs, and vegetables. She portioned it out to the others when it was done, and took a plate for herself and took a seat on one of the logs next to Linde and listened as Linde asked if Lolan had wanted to share another story.

Lonán was sitting across from Kyero, and slightly glared at the red eyed demon for stealing the newcomer’s attention, however he also knew this meant if she saw what was underneath the hood, the mother of all misunderstandings would occur. At Linde’s question he gave a large smile. ”Do I ever. Being in a Warrior Clan means you have to know a good chunk of your family history.” He answered, ”Let me tell you about his assistance to the group of warriors deeply devoted to Heresta. This is the tale of the Iron Wolf, and the Lionesses of Heresta. ‘Twas almost a year after his fight with Zankor Clan...”

——

The Iron Wolf had received word of a Group of Warriors known as The Lionesses of Heresta in need of extra help with a dangerous hunt. He arrived at the village they had stopped at on horseback. He approached the Inn, dusting his travel clothes as he entered. He walked silently towards the bar and tapped with his knuckles. “Icefire, pint glass, throw a dash of scotch in it.” He ordered as the bartender got to work on his drink, he heard several chuckles as he turned and saw several women in different sets of armor in different sets of fighting styles.

“That’s a Baby drink if we’ve ever heard of it.” Said one woman. “I bet ten doesn’t come close to what Sigrun Drinks. We nickname it ‘Strong Shit’.”

Magnus’ eyebrow twitched. They did not just challenge him and his favorite beverage and attempt to get away with it! He slammed a gold coin on the table. “Make it eleven!” He shouted as he got onto a spare table, “Bring this woman before me and we’ll see who outdrinks who!” Then he watched as one of the women stood up, and approached him. She sat before him and gave a friendly smile.

“Any stakes? How about I win you give me your name.” She said with a slight smirk and a wink. Magnus’ face darkened. “I doubt I’ll lose, cause the stuff I drink? Really is strong stuff.”

“If I win however Miss Sigrun?” That Question was received with a strong hand grasping the collar of his tunic.

“Call me miss and I’ll suplex you into next week stranger. I am the Eldest daughter of the Leader of the Lionesses of Beloved Heresta, so don’t ‘Miss’ Me!” She shouted angrily. “Brunhild! Bring two pints of scotch and pour the glass of vodka in each one!” Thus the drinking contest known in Arzura family history known as ‘The Great Drink off’ began. Magnus drank his ten and Sigrun drank her first. Magnus began to look like he was beginning to regret his decision.

“I lost... I don’t think I can hold it, I’m Magnus Arzura...can you ask one of your friends to bring me a bucket Miss-“ He was grabbed the moment Miss was heard, as the Lionesses began to panic.

“Sigrun! That’s the Iron Wolf!” They all shouted.

“Well he shouldn’t ‘Miss’ me!” Was all Magnus heard when he was suddenly suplexed onto the table with a crash.

——

”He woke up the next day with Sigrun sitting next to his bedside with a very sorry look on her face. Then they joined forces and hardly left each other’s side for a long time. Until Grandmother died when I was ten. You see, this story is how The Old Wolf met my grandmother. She was a fierce warrior, and a good teacher, and grandmother. I still believe to this day since the day of her death, the Old Wolf misses her greatly.” He concluded, with a sad laugh and a big smile on his face, recalling the time he spent with Her.

Linde, upon seeing Aetrius bring back the deer, skin it, gut it, and prepare it, lost some of the color in her face and had to excuse herself as she began urping. She never lost anything from her stomach, but she came close.

Meanwhile, as Lonan began his story he had garnered a specific individual's undivided attention all the way to the final word.

"Ooohhh..." Josephine whispered.

"So your grandmother was a Lioness of Heresta? I've heard of their group, but I've never had the pleasure of meeting or sparring with them myself. Do you know your grandmother's style well enough to demonstrate some of their techniques?" She asked with a slight twinkle in her eyes.

”To answer your first question Miss Dezantro, yes she was. She was the Daughter of Cinder Gray, The Leader of the Lionesses at the time. The Eldest to be specific.” Lonán answered as he began to stand up slowly. ”And I watched her several times to learn some of her basic moves, as well as her signature, however I will demonstrate the basic techniques.”

He walked a few paces but stayed in the firelight. ”So, for your viewing pleasure, I give you, the Desert Lion’s Fist.” He said, as he got into a stance and began to demonstrate several strikes and blocks, recalling how Sigrun demonstrated the proper stance and basic unarmed techniques for the purposes of self defense. She wanted to ensure not only was he good with the blade like his Grandfather and Father, but that his very body, his very fists would be a weapon should he be without either.

The movements lasted for a good four and a half minutes. By the time he stopped he got back into the ready stance of the technique. ”And that is the basics of my Grandmother’s style. I’ve been trying to make my own style by meshing it along with my Grandfather’s sword style together but I’ve not Figured out how well they could cohesively meld.” He said shyly, rubbing the back of his neck.

Josephine watched intently as Lonan demonstrated the movements of his grandmother's style, taking careful consideration to his wounded shoulder. She studied each and every motion carefully, and sat up in her chair as he finished.

"A fine display, Sir. Arzura."

She placed her chin in her hand in thought.

"I believe I understand a little better the way your grandmother must have fought." She said under her breath.

She glanced to Lonan once again.

"And what of your grandfather's blade style? Could you demonstrate that as well?"

Lonán, at hearing what Josephine suggested next, walked over and grasped his sword before heading back to where he was, drawing the blade out of it’s scabbard. ”It is a Family tradition, to pass down the blade style from one generation to the next, Starting from the founder of my clan, The Berserker, all the way down to the present day to me. It’s name, The Azure Wolf Style.”

He then demonstrated the stance used when fighting with the blade, as well as the the proper use of holding the blade for the style, especially the less dominant hand holding it with only his thumb and first two fingers, with his other two on the pommel. ”This type of grip, allows for a little more of a pivot when controlling the blade swings.” He explained as he demonstrated it with a few swings of the blade. ”I can show no more other then the basics. For if you want to know more, well, you’d have to be a part of the Clan.” He ended with a chuckle and returned the blade to it’s sheath. “I trust that is satisfactory to your curiosity Miss Dezantro?” he shifted his shoulders a bit, to shake off a small bit of pain in his injured shoulder. He also didn’t want to demonstrate anything else due to said shoulder.

He feared Linde’s anger on that subject.
