Description: The Crimson Twins are both youthful, attractive, and divinely dangerous individuals. They both wear a set of clothing crafted of a unique and extremely rare material known as I’k Ehvn, a material strong enough to deflect bullets so long as they don’t come in on a straight path and which can stop even the finest crafted blades dead in their tracks.

Shadow, the “Red-Eyed Demon,” stands tall and proud at approximately six feet two inches in height. His body is that of a solid mesomorph, boasting broad shoulders tapering down in classic “V” style to his waist which is thin and devoid of any and all body fat. His chest is full and strong, with incredibly defined and large lat muscles (like those of Bruce Lee in ‘Enter the Dragon’). His upper body to lower body ratio is roughly 45/55, making his lower body a bit longer than his upper body. Both his arms and legs are extremely defined and even when relaxed their muscularity shines through.

His face is youthful but mature with no blemishes or scars of any kind. His eyebrows are fairly thick but the hair is quite fine so they do not appear terribly dense or stand out too much on his face. His eyes glow via bioluminescence, the source of which is commonly believed to be the Demon inhabiting his soul. He has high, but not terribly defined cheekbones though he still has a strong cheek. His jawline is strong and well shaped with an evenly thin chin at the bottom. His ears are situated in the natural area and are an even size though they are slightly smaller than the average (though this does nothing to impede his superb hearing).

His attire is composed entirely of an ensemble of I’k Ehvn. He wears a long sleeve and thick jacket with a flared up collar, though he usually rolls the sleeves up to just above his elbows to make room for his armor. Under this shirt he wears a black tank top which is fairly tight to his frame but very flexible to allow complete freedom of movement. Coupled with the I’k Ehvn jacket, this combination alone makes his upper body nigh impenetrable against any conventional weaponry. He wears a belt with a black metal buckle and his pants are fairly loose to his frame though still tight enough to make it clear how muscular they are. His boots are dense and have armored souls and toes, but despite their obvious weight they make almost no sound when he walks thanks to the I’k Ehvn material which absorbs vibrations and impact.

Era, the “Ruby-Eyed Witch,” also stands tall like her brother but is less striking in her features than he is and is considered to be the runt between them by those who know them (a fact she detests). She stands at five feet ten inches tall, which is taller than the average woman. She has straight black hair similar to her brother’s though hers falls down behind her back all the way to her hips (and she keeps it in a ponytail). Her neck is smooth and slender leading down and sloping into her shoulders creating an alarmingly feminine appearance which hides the true depth of her power and aggression. Her chest is full at a solid thirty five C cup and has very womanly features beyond that. Her waist is slender, her hips full but not containing any extraneous body fat, and a taught, round posterior.

Her eyes are the same as her brother’s and glow via bioluminescence which is attributed to the Demon residing in her soul. Her strength is comparable to her brother’s, but because he holds a greater muscle mass than she does her strength does not quite match his though it still grossly outshines even the strongest of even above average strength warriors. Her muscularity is a bit more subtle than her brother’s, hidden under a layer of soft and smooth skin which only gives way to her muscles when she flexes. Contrary to her brother who has a very masculine and powerful face, Era’s is softer and much more feminine despite how equally ferocious and aggressive she is which makes her all the more frightening to observe in combat. Her face is heart shaped with a soft curving jawline and a set of bangs which hover over her eyes that she trims herself to avoid getting in the way of her sight.

Era’s outfit is quite different from her brother’s in that she prefers to wear as little as possible. For Era, the ensemble is that of a single top piece similar to that found in a two piece bathing suit which is just enough to cover her breasts and wrap around her back. She wears pants like her brother’s, but they’re tighter to her frame to show her assets. Her legs are muscular but still feminine enough to attract attention with a one inch thigh gap. Over her hands she wears long and thin black gloves which cover her arms up to her elbows. Her boots stop just below her knees, a bit higher than her brother’s, but are just as armored and soft to the step as his are. She also tends to wear a black hair band as she came to enjoy the style not long ago.

Personality: The personality of the Crimson Twins is nigh impossible to describe, but one must try.

Shadow’s personality is one of mystery, though it becomes quite clear very quickly that he is prone to acts of unprovoked violence simply because he enjoys it. Shadow has always enjoyed violence and the sight of blood spilling from the human body, an unnatural infatuation instilled in him by the Grandmaster of Te’i Sai. His surgical precision with a blade means he can cause whatever kind of damage he wants whenever he wants, and he’s quite fond of opening arteries to watch the blood pour from the body. He is sadistic, merciless, and cares absolutely nothing for the lives of other human beings save for that of his sister whom he is protective of as his only living relative.

Era’s personality is a little more obvious and defined than her brother’s. Era appreciates the finer things in life and has a penchant for jewelry though she never wears it on missions. She enjoys things that help one relax such as charms which bring “tranquility,” “harmony,” “peace,” and “passion.” Even though she is just as ruthless as her brother in combat, outside of battle she is more agreeable and actually has a sense for humanity as she was not raised in isolation as he was. She knows how to mix in with other people by using special eye drops to color her eyes brown so she can walk around in broad daylight without attracting unwanted attention. She even held a romance for a short time before Shadow put an end to it at the order of the Grandmaster.

Strengths: The Demons which inhabit the very souls of the Crimson Twins grant them inhuman strength, speed, agility, flexibly, endurance, stamina, and their senses are greatly heightened. They can selectively isolate the sounds they wish to hear from the outside noise, giving them the ability to hear a pin drop over fifty meters away even during the height of the day in a crowded marketplace. They can see in the dark as easily and perfectly as in the daylight, and they can smell even the faintest of aromas which also lets them smell human pheromones so they can tell even without seeing where other people are around them beyond walls and around building corners. They can taste the changes in air density as moisture either increases or recedes, giving them the ability to predict the weather and make adjustments on the fly to their strategies. And finally, their sense of touch is sensitive enough to detect minute vibrations in the ground which functions similarly and cooperatively with their sense of smell to detect where other people are around them through walls and around building corners.

Weaknesses: Unknown

Quirks: Shadow and Era both have an unnatural attraction to combat, but only Shadow is unnaturally attracted to the idea of watching blood spill from the bodies of his victims.

Likes: Solitude, nature, completing their missions
Dislikes: Crowded areas, other Assassins, and surprises

Special Talents/Traits:

Shadow, when exposed to both the scent of his own blood as well as the blood of another enters a berserker state known as Roda I’l Lousta. In this state he no longer distinguishes between friend and foe, innocent or guilty, and will kill every living thing within his line of sight until nothing remains. In this state his already inhuman strength increases even further making him completely unstoppable until he exits the state once nothing living remains within his line of sight.

Equipment:

Shadow and Era both wear a set of armor made from a legendary and almost unaccessible metal known as Orichalcum.

Orichalcum is the single strongest substance ever known to exist on this Earth, and has no known equivalent or rival in the world. Even a modest blade crafted of this legendary metal is capable of slicing through the most finely crafted steel blade as if it were nothing but air. The downsides to this metal is that it is also incredibly heavy, making weapons and armor crafted of it impractical for use by normal people… but the Crimson Twins aren’t normal, are they? The other downside is that in order to forge anything out of it, one must use the heat of molten magma to bring it to a malleable state. Even the best blacksmith forges do not burn hot enough to bring it to such a state no matter how long it remains situated within it.

Shadow’s vambraces on his forearms both weigh approximately eighty pounds each making them weapons unto themselves and also give him extra protection when his jacket sleeves are rolled up. His greaves over his shins weigh just over one hundred and twenty pounds each. The armor in his boots are also made of Orichalcum, weighing around thirty pounds each despite being thin plates in the bottom of his boot souls and covering his toes. And lastly, Shadow’s belt buckle is made of Orichalcum and weighs fifteen pounds.

Era’s armor is more modest, and crafted to be a bit thinner than her brother’s but is nonetheless just as potent in its durability and ability to protect her. Her breasts are covered by an Orichalcum breastplate, and she wears vambraces and greaves nearly identical to those her brother wears. The final piece of her Orichalcum armor ensemble is her hair band, an unlikely piece of “armor” but nonetheless it is made of Orichalcum and weighs around eight pounds.

The final piece of the Crimson Twins ensemble is that both of them carry a pair of Twin Daggers hand crafted from Orichalcum by Shadow himself. They are of a simple design, but they are more than enough to get the job done right every time and are so sharp and finely folded that they can slice through even other, less well made, Orichalcum weaponry. The two pairs of daggers are respectfully, and affectionately, named “The Twins.”

* Training History: The training history for the Crimson Twins varies quite greatly between the two which is why they ended up as two very different people.

Shadow’s training began the day he learned to walk. By that time in his life he was already smart enough to mimic those who looked after him, and the first things they taught him to do was to hold a knife and use it in a stabbing fashion. In order for him to prove that he was worthy of training on a higher level than other Assassins, he was thrown into a pit as a one year old and made to fight and kill other infants who had also been trained to hold a blade. The blades were small and light weight, and it made the “fights” between these babies all the more brutal and long lived. It was a sick game meant to weed out the weak among those who were meant for something more within the organization, and Shadow excelled on all levels. By the time he was only two years old he had already killed over one hundred other infants who had been thrown in the pit against him.

By the time he was three and capable of training on a more sophisticated level he was being trained directly by the Grandmaster of Te’i Sai. Day one of his training under the Grandmaster pushed his young and underdeveloped body to its breaking point and the boy couldn’t train again for over a week until his body healed. However, such repeated torturing hardened his body and mind and within the span of four months he had grown used to the harsh reality of his new life. During these early years of training he was isolated from all other people and hidden away in a little room with nothing but a bed and a chair for company. The only human being he knew was his Master, and it whenever the boy was brought out for training all other Assassins were given the order to clear his path so as not to be seen. They didn’t want the boy thinking that he was one of them.

On his fifth birthday he was introduced to his sister, Era, but their meeting didn’t go over well. The first thing the two did was fight, and the Grandmaster had to break the fight up personally as the other Assassins weren’t fast enough to catch up to the rapidly moving and combating twins. When it was over, both of them had bloody lips and bruised faces, and the Grandmaster saw immediately that these were no ordinary children. Their eyes had been a clue up until that point, but no proof of any exceptional talent had been observed until that moment. When the Grandmaster factored in that these were other Master Assassins who were failing to keep pace with the quarreling twins, the possibilities became endless. It was at that moment that he gave them their names of Shadow and Era, a play on the concept of the world falling into an era of darkness with the advent of their abilities unleashed.

Shadow’s training was intensified upon his sixth birthday until once again his body couldn’t keep up with the Grandmaster’s regimen. Once he had acclimated himself to it, it was intensified again, and again, and again. By his seventh birthday he was already just as powerful and much, much faster than even the best Master Assassins within the organization. When Shadow and his sister turned eight years old, they were deployed against the Cre’ Itian Royal Guard to display the extent of their prowess. In just one night they killed all four hundred Royal Guards and left the city painted red with blood through nearly every street and alleyway leading up to the front doors of Castle Cre’ Est. Upon the dawn of the next morning they were found standing on the church cross holding the heads of the two most prominent members of the Royal Guard. They tossed the heads into the crowds below and disappeared without a trace.

Shadow’s training from that point on was on an ever increasing level of difficulty to push the limits of what even his Demonic soul could achieve. Eventually it reached the stage where even the Grandmaster was no longer able to create anything more difficult for him and Shadow’s training was officially complete by the time he was only twelve years old. The rest of his life up until this point has been spent on missions and accomplishing deeds the likes of which the world has never seen. His prowess alone is astronomical, but when paired with his sister there is literally no such thing as even a tiny sliver of hope. Nothing short of divine intervention can save someone once both Crimson Twins have their sights set on them.

Era’s training began much more similarly to that of a normal Assassin’s, and as opposed to the training her brother received it was much more humane until she was introduced to her brother at age five. After the two finished their fight and the Grandmaster separated them, she too was trained exclusively by the Grandmaster on ever increasing levels of difficulty until she too had surpassed even the Grandmaster’s creativity. Alongside her brother at age twelve, she completed her Assassin training and became an operative alongside her brother often working together with him. However, she insisted on doing things by herself quite often and only worked with her brother out of necessity and that was not very often. But when it happened, the job was already done even if the world hadn’t caught onto it yet.

Biography: The history of the Crimson Twins is shrouded in mystery. It is a story of deceit, brutality, and tragedy. The horror of the Crimson Twins escapes the comprehension of the human mind, which has been etched and sculpted to believe in mediocrity and contentment. The true depth of their suffering eclipses that of any who have come before or will ever come again, yet they persist and thrive in this world of never-ending darkness. In order for one to understand the Crimson Twins and the depth of their tragic lives, one must travel back to the very beginning.

The birth of the one named Shadow marked the beginning of an era. He was born on the night of September 28, 550 at the very moment the sun descended beyond the horizon to awaken the night. At first he seemed a stillborn, neither affirming nor denying life. No breath, no open eyes, nothing. Then as if by magic he stirred from his silence and as his eyes opened the dimly lit room was engulfed in red light. His mother, her handmaidens, and the doctor overseeing the birth all stared in wonder and horror at what the child’s eyes brought to the world and of what it could mean. When his sister, Era, was born not more than one hour later, hope remained that her brother’s shining eyes were one of a kind. That hope vanished as her eyes opened to reveal the same crimson flare which her brother’s eyes brought.

The twins were taken to an isolated room where the doctor invited several of his colleagues to examine the children. When they concluded the examination they had found no logical reason why the children’s eyes glowed with such a strange bioluminescence, and so the explanation fell to the church to decide. It was eventually agreed to that the children had been possessed by Demons in the womb and that the only way to protect and save their souls was to destroy their possessed bodies. However, one of the doctor’s colleagues did not see things this way and killed all in the room before spiriting the children away into the night. The two children were never heard from again by their mother nor any who were present during the birthing, and the entire affair of their glowing red eyes was kept a tight lipped secret from that day on.

So where were the children taken?

The answer lies in the myths and legends of Te’i Sai, a ruthless Assassin organization founded thousands of years ago as guardians of order over the blind sheep that are the people of Cre’ Est.

So begins...

The night is overcome by a sense of overwhelming dread, and I dare not remain out beyond a certain hour. My father says that even in his prime he would not risk the wrath of what lies in the shadows of our world today. I can only pray that the Gods bring a swift end to this nightmare.

Capital City: Valkyom

A soft breeze caressed the face of a building facing southeast near the corner of the Valkyom Central Market. The candlelight from within flickered quietly through the milky glass windows flashing on the cobblestone walls and streets. The slight moan of the wind through the air brushed the door and the sign above which read “Almna Apothecary,” owned and operated by the Almna family. The family name was well known in Valkyom, as it was of the nobility yet one of the few family’s which chose to live among the commonwealth.

Tonight, the Almna Apothecary was occupied by one, and only one soul.

Linde Almna, second daughter to the Almna family and the soul practitioner of the arts of medicine in the area sat quietly writing a letter to her traveling brother. He had left home some time ago to expose himself to what life was like beyond the walls of Valkyom, and had been gone nearly a year to the day. She missed her brother, and smiled to herself as she wrote the final phrases of her communication.

My dearest brother, it has been hard on mother and father in your absence. Father’s condition as a cripple has weighed heavy on all of our hearts, and mother’s failing health has me greatly concerned. All signs point to mental degradation, and I fear that there will be next to nothing I can do to save her from this fate.

Pray, dear brother, come home as soon as you can. It would mean the world to father, Isis, and myself if you were to visit her once more before she forgot all of our faces. Even if only for one day, pray come home.

Sincerely, your loving sister,

Linde Almna

With that, she placed her pen and ink away and folded the letter. After placing it in an envelope, she sealed it with the family crest and placed it on her desk. She would bring it to the carrier service tomorrow for delivery, and hoped that her brother would receive it in time to do as she wished. If her mother continued down this road it would be littler more than a few months before she began forgetting all of their faces. Her brother had always held the strongest bond to their mother, and for his face to be forgotten because of an illness almost seemed a crime. But if it was the will of the Gods, then so be it.

Linde walked through the halls to the main lobby and blew out the candles before exiting and locking the door behind her. She placed the key in her pocket and walked through the darkened streets alone, her pace brisk and with purpose. Along the way she felt the breeze against her face and smiled as the sounds of nature around her gathered to welcome her into their sight. She couldn’t see them, but she knew they could see her. The birds, squirrels, and other small animals that regularly stole into the city to nest and eat the people’s leftovers were watching her right now.

As she made it to her home a few blocks away, she noticed a drop in animal calls. It was probably nothing, but with the increasing crime rates it seldom was as much as one might wish it to be so. She carefully checked over both shoulders, looking down the long streets and into the darkness of the alleyways before unlocking her door and walking inside. She set the lock and placed the key in a drawer before making her way to the living room. She sat down in her soft chair and lit her lamp on a small table by the window to give the room some light. The house was newly bought and belonged to her alone, and living by herself was a new step. She had never been away from home like this, and for now it was all she could do to keep the pain of the separation at bay. She wanted to cry as her thoughts trailed to her mother and her declining health.

It was around this time that something in Valkyom began to change. The animals all went into hiding. The homeless covered themselves with whatever they could find. Those out walking quickly found refuge or rushed home. Something dark was coming. Something evil.

Everyone could feel the ominous presence in the air.

”Fear is a weapon, an edge which cannot be dulled. It is in humanity’s nature to fear that which cannot be controlled, identified, or destroyed. It is within this world, the world of darkness and fear, which we now make our home.

We are the Crimson Twins.”

”The darkness of human nature is personified in who and what we are. Demons share our souls and empower us with strength beyond natural human capability. We are ruthless beyond measure, warped beyond recognition, and isolated from the rest of the world.

Capitol City: Valkyom, Cre' Est

The night air had grown stale and silent with not a sound to be heard for over a mile. The occasional echo of an animal call from the distance touched the sensitive hairs deep within their inner ear sparking a series of electric signals which culminated in the brain which revealed to them that the nearest animal was likely a stray dog over a mile and a half away in the alleys of Cre' Est's slums. However, this sound was not the only signal that there was life within the stillness of the world below.

Footsteps raced quietly through west the alleyways until the sound of a lock pick prying open a window was followed by the soft sound of the window being opened with extreme caution. Watching, listening, waiting, until the sound of a soft slice was heard and the faint echo of drops of liquid spilling on the wooden floor of the home touched their ears. The sound of a body leaping from the window and gently touching down on the cobblestone streets soon followed, and they shared a glance and a single nod of acknowledgement.

Another set of footsteps to the east began to sound, and again a window was opened with a lock set before the body entered the building. A few moments passed and again the sound of a slice and liquid spilling to the floor echoed faintly on the wind. Another glance, and another nod. Finally, a third and fourth set of footsteps echoed ahead to the north beyond the church tower. They moved closer without any noise at all, perching themselves on the cross as they listened to the sounds of the new set of footsteps and the path they followed. The two sets of footsteps stopped at a rather large mansion, prying open the windows slowly and cautiously before the sounds of the footsteps were lost within. Minutes passed without any further changes until at last the sound of footsteps touching the cobblestone greeted their ears.

Another glance, and another nod.

One of them looked to the east, the other to the west, and nodded. The footsteps of all four individuals hiding in the shadows began gathering outside the fence of a miniature Villa of a house at the upper northwest end of Cre' Est's capitol city of Valkyom. It was the home of the Chancellor, Csargil Virmonte (pronounced Sar-gil Veer-mon-teh). He lived like a king unto himself in that house, and as far as anyone of the public eye knew he was a model citizen despite his overwhelmingly wealthy and politically powerful position. He donated to charities, provided free housing to homeless in shelters he had built along the city's edges, and pioneered a new security system and protocol for the city guards to follow which avoided extreme corporal punishment for lesser crimes which had otherwise been in place for generations.

The mini Villa/house was a sight to behold, and was only about a mile away from the nation's royal palace where the king and queen resided. Sometimes tourists would joke that it that the prince or princess's summer home, but it was in fact owned by a private citizen who held a powerful political position. But what had he done to deserve what was about to happen? Only the two overseeing the mission seemed to know for sure, as the operatives in the field doing the work only knew that they were to follow orders to the letter or risk being killed themselves. It was a very effective motivator.

Over an hour passed in the dead of night as the pair stood on the church tower gazing at the Villa/home of Csargil Virmonte. The two of them shared a glance, and then continued their observation. Another hour, and finally one set of footsteps escaped the Villa/home and made their way towards the large gate surrounding it. However, the pair heard a series of footsteps following before a scuffle became evident. When it was over, the group of footsteps returned to the Villa.

They looked at each other, glaring at one another as if playing some kind of mental game of rock/paper/scissors to see who would take over and finish the mission.

When the game was over, it was the male's turn.

He gazed at the Villa, his eyes flashing bright red in the moonlight before he disappeared into the darkness of the night. The female remained perched on the church and could only just barely hear his footsteps before the disappeared altogether. She heard a small rattling of the Villa's gate bars, and then nothing. Two minutes passed, and another rattling of the bars before the faint sound of the footsteps were heard again and then, as if from nowhere, beside her sat her brother once more. The two of them shared a glance and reveled in the sound of a shriek from one of the handmaiden's which echoed through the night. They smiled to themselves and disappeared.

The next morning, the city was sharing the news of the assassination of Chancellor Csargil Virmonte in the streets and warning citizens to remain indoors the moment the sun went down. Fear began to spread through the city as news of the assassination circulated, and the whispers of the Crimson Twins again began to take a firm grip on the land with word traveling very quickly. The pair had struck again, finishing the job their fellow Assassins of Te'i Sai could not as word of the other Assassin's deaths also circulated. Four of them in total were apprehended and executed by the Royal Guards guarding the Chancellor's home, but none saw or were able to stop the Crimson Twins from finishing the job.

He was on the rooftop of a tall building in the Noble District of the city of Valkyom staring down at the scene unfolding below him in the streets. His eye was set on a particular building with the sign "Almna Apothecary," and as he let his leg droop over the edge leaning against the slanted roof against his back his sister found her way over to him and sat down next to him.

"You really think that girl can do something for us?"

He didn't answer, and she rolled her eyes.

"I still don't see her value," she whispered.

He looked over at her.

"It's not just her anymore... There's another one I just saw who could be useful," he retorted.

She scoffed.

"How could they possibly be useful? They're both so... ordinary!" She said in a harsh tone.

His eyes trailed back down to the Apothecary, and the corners of his mouth curled in a small smile.

"... No... They're not," he whispered back to her.

"They know... We should leave,"

He didn't move.

"Are you listening? If I heard them then so did you! They know we're watching. The last thing we need is to be seen," she demanded in a hushed voice.

He didn't move.

"Ugh! Fine, do what you will but I won't be seen by the two of them! Whatever happens after this is on you brother!"

"I know," he responded in almost a whisper.

With that, the girl took off leaving him sitting on the edge of the roof with his eyes glued to the Almna Apothecary. He had a feeling that when the red haired girl came out she'd spot his silhouette against the blue sky fairly quickly, as he could tell how astute she was at observing things. But he wanted it that way. He wanted her to know that he was watching.

He wanted her to know that the Red-Eyed Demon was watching her.

He watched her exit, and for a brief moment the made eye contact. From this distance, she couldn't see his eyes but she knew he was there.

Well done, he thought.

As she walked away he stood up and walked off, listening to her footsteps and tuning out all other sound until he found her alley and watched the bottle fly up into the air and come down on the other side of her dead end.

Not the wisest move, but everyone has to start somewhere, he thought.

He looked down at her from the backside of her dead end, spying the gun in her hand.

... That could complicate things, he thought to himself as he backed away from the edge.

It didn't matter how he approached now, his appearance was likely to get him shot. It would mean instant death if she aimed for his head, which was the only unprotected part of his body, but perhaps if he walked into the opening and made a slow approach she'd feel inclined to intimidate him rather than shoot him right away. If he dropped down in front of her or behind her, she'd want to shoot first, so the approach was now obvious.

How boring... he complained mentally.

He walked out towards the alleyway and carefully hopped down into the street nearby, not making any sound as he did so. Slowly, he walked towards her alley dead end, and as he rounded the corner he kept his eyes forward so she couldn't see them just yet. He stopped in the opening, giving her plenty of space to feel confident in her weapon. The psychological boost would give her a false sense of control and power, which would hopefully keep her from pulling the trigger right away. He had a few things to discuss with her after all, and it wouldn't do to have her shoot him right away.

Keeping his head forward and not looking at her, he spoke.

"Impressive. Leading me to a dead end alleyway like this," he said in a low but calm voice.

Of course, it was not impressive at all. Had he chosen to he could have dropped down directly on top of her and killed her right there. Anyone on the rooftops could have. But again, he had to play the psychological card and put her into a confident mood to prevent that trigger from being pulled. Anything except a head shot would not kill him, but it would sting like Hell and he didn't need any unnecessary injuries, if you could call them that, today.

Scarlet would watch the man as he comes slowly into view. She is unable to see the mans face due to how he's position. She reads what little she can, but it's not much to go on. She takes a deep breath, then gives a smirk. "Let me guess, i didn't throw the bottle high enough?" She asks. "Damn, you owe me some gold, that stuff was expensive." She says with a curse.

"Right, it's clear you're a professional." She said. "You're stance is keeping you from showing your face to me so i can't identify youi. You'r voice tone clearly thinks I'm an idiot, and you're trying to give me a confidence boost so I don't shoot you in the face right here and now." She says, keeping the gun trained.on the man. Who was he, exactly? Scarlet thoughty she knew all of the professional assassins, or at least clear descriptions of how they move. "...It's also clear you aren't here to kill me, either. yOu saw through my trap, clear as day, and you could have easily killed me from the rooftop. Show me your face and tell me what is it you want, exactly."

He listened to her speak.

She's more perceptive than I thought, he thought.

He smiled, and slowly turned his head letting the full extent of his glowing red eyes come into view.

There'd be no mistaking who he was at this point.

"I trust I need no introduction?" He asked, still smiling at her.

Raine's eyes widened for a brief moment in surprise, but it turns to one of a sadistic delight. "My, The Red Eyed Demon in the flesh. I was starting to think you were some sort of nighttime horror story... now then, this changes everything, doesn't it?"

Then she does what may have been the most surprising thing yet, and puts the musket back into her leg pouch. "Truth is, I've been wanting to meet the famous twins for quite some time." She says, smiling as she looks him right in the eyes. "Well, I obviously know who you are..."

She gives a smile, flipping her hair as she begins to take a few steps forward. "My name Is Scarlet Remiella...and here isn't a good place to talk. Come on, we'll go to my place." She says with a smirk. "DO you know where it is or do you need to follow me from a distance?" She said. There was no point in fighting this man, her chance to kill had long since past...and this man was the legendary assassin she oh so wanted to kill a certain family... this was a perfect chance for her.

He watched her walk towards him, the smile still on his face.

"I must confess I do not know where you reside, as you were not someone I paid attention to until I saw you walk into the Almna Apothecary today. You must have something special for me if you want me to follow you back to your place," he said, keeping one eye on her the whole time.

"It's clear you thought to follow me for some reason...let's find out." She says with a smile, walking out of the alleyway. She makes the trek back to her house.

"YOu're back early Miss." Came a peon, noticing she returned. "Was getting the mark a success?"

"No, but she did give me an excellent idea. Let's begin drawing bills of sale to various doctors, claim they don't work, and go demending supplies as blackmail." She says with a smile. "Simply Genius, Linde."

"PArdon?" The peopn says

"Right, im going to my room. No one is to disturb me on punishment of death." She says, and walks up to her room on the second floor, and shuts the door.

He walked out of the shadows in the corner of her room and stood a few paces behind her.

"I don't drink," he said flatly.

He watched her for a moment, and then looked around to examine the room.

"I guess I'll get straight to the point then," he said, looking back at her.

"You are... interesting, Scarlet. It is for this reason why I have selected you for... shall we say "recruitment?" he said, tilting his head to one side.

"I have some important business to attend to in a few weeks, and it is imperative that I have connections I can rely on. I'm well aware of what you and your people do here, but that has given me no reason to think I should be more cautious about speaking to you regarding this matter. When my business is concluded, something will change in this city and your people will likely be the first to know about it. Once that happens, I will need you to inform me of every detail. And I mean every detail of what took place during my absence."

He straightened his head.

"So, will you do this for me? If you answer with a "yes," I will require an ancient contract of blood from you. Simply provide me with a slice of your palm, and clench your fist to prove to me that through blood and pain you will not betray my trust. If you do this, I will return the favor in full."

Scarlet gives a slight hpmh, taking a sip of her wine. Pity the guy didn't drink, she wondered with a legendary assassin would say with loose lips... it would be an epic tale, of that she was certain. She sat down on her bed, taking a sip while watching him. It was a strange sensation, the fear that most people would feel when faced with a personification of death. There was no fear in her eyes... had she simply resigned herself to her fate...or, even now, is Scarlet's ability to read and match people kicking in, despite not knowing exactly what this man wants.

"So.... just keep an eye out for things? It's true that I have a vast information network, but that was the last thing I expected. I figured you would need supplies or some such." She says with a short laugh, taking a sip. "What you say can be done easily enough. I often cast network checks, so nothing will appear out of the ordinary. You'll get what you seek, if that's you're only price." She said

She thought about the next step, sighing. "Slicing my palm is rather barbaric but hey, if that's how you do things... it's well worth the price I ask." She said. She would unbutton the first button on her gown, and reached into her chest, pulling out the dagger she always used. She gripped the sharp edge of the blade with her palm, and yanked on it . There was a sharp kickback, and Scarlet bit her lip. After a few breath's, she recovered, clenching her first. "There, your little pain contract is finished." She says.

Her mental readiness continues to waver. What was this all about? Why was Scarlet so ready to inflict pain on herself just for some goal? FOr that matter, why did she let a killer know where she sleeps? Scarlet would never be that stupid...and yet, here they were, Perhaps this is the real Scarlet...perhaps she longs for pain and blood.... maybe she envies the fear brough about by this red eyed man... or was this a sign that her mental state was far worse than it was... she would need mental help soon, that was obvious.

"My price is simple, do it whenever you feel like i've done enough for you to be satisfied.... the Treveilan has an Aristocracy, as im sure you know run by the Oodaran family...with them out of the way, The Remiella's could take over, and i can finally go get the help i need.... but how i am is a compltly different matter... i want the entire Oodaran family wiped off the face of the planet. Should be easy enough for the legendary killers... hell , if you do this, consider all of my...underground services free of charge."
"Is there anything else you'd like to ask while we're here?" She asks. She forces her pained hand to grap the wine cup and sip, trying to act like the pain was nothing.

He watched her do what he asked, and as the blood oozed from the wound he watched it with silent fascination. The blood of this woman, Scarlet, was most satisfying to see and smell. He could almost taste it, the scent was so strong. Her blood was potent. Perhaps that's why he wanted her help.

As she asked if there was anything else he needed, he walked forward and gently took her hand in his own.

"If there is anything else that I need," he began as he popped the top of a vial he took out from behind his back with his right hand.

"I'll be sure to let you know," he said as he applied the salve within to the surface of the wound, almost instantly numbing it to pain and lending a cooling sensation to what was once a burning cut.

"Consider the request complete," he said as he applied a simple bandage wrap with practiced precision to her hand and took a step back.

"The Oodaran family has done its share of good deeds in the name of its country, but it too has become far too corrupt for the good of the continent as a whole. I was planning on dealing with them much later, but you have given me the excuse I need to go after them immediately," he said as he made his way towards her window and opened it.

He paused at the sill, looking back to her with that smile again.

"If you have need of me at any time, just place a red piece of cloth on a rooftop held down by any white stone of your choice. It is a simple and ancient symbol of meeting, and I'll know because the cloth is red that it is you who wishes to see me."

With that, he leaped out of her window and hoisted himself up to the roof and disappeared.

There was no fear in her eyes as she looked at the man... the Red Eyed Demon, scourge of the kingdoms, She knew what he was capabnle... he could kill her in a million different ways. Scarlet saw the hint of delight at seeing blood, she saw his sadism, his bloodlust.. It was like a hunter resisting the urge to hunt down prey. She knew all of this, even before inviting him in... and she felt no fear at all.

He had walked over and grabbed her hand, and even then, there was no fear... like she accepted anything that was to happen. Her mind should have been screaming to kill this danger to herself, not to mention claim that disturbingly high bounty... but that part of her had been long destroyed. He could have asked for an entire liter of blood, and Scarlet probably would have offered her neck. 'Why am I thinking about all of this now?' She asks herself. 'Is my perception on everything getting so twisted I can imagine some guy drinking my blood? Is there no perversion I won't back away from?' She asks herself

;No, there isn't, so shut up and go with it.' Her mind seemed to respond. The Red Eyed Demon put something on her hamd, and there was a pleasant cooling sensation as her palm began to heal i[. She was surprised that he placed a bandage on it, however. That portrayed something other than bloodlust... a sense of kindness. “Oh um... thank you for that.” She says, looking away ever so slightly

As she watched him go. Scarlet blinked. “Wait... I didn't even ask him his name.” She says, surprised at the sadness she feels about that. She finishes her drink and sits down on the table. AS she thought about the meeting, something felt off, but she couldn't figure out what it was... and then she settles on what it must be;

'The Oodaran family has done its share of good deeds in the name of its country, but it too has become far too corrupt for the good of the continent as a whole. I was planning on dealing with them much later, but you have given me the excuse I need to go after them immediately,' He had said... and before that, he had said ' I'm well aware of what you and your people do here, but that has given me no reason to think I should be more cautious about speaking to you regarding this matter'

She felt a sad chill, as she looked out the window. 'Corrupt... he definatly said 'corrupt' She thinks to herself. 'He was going to kill them anyway... if he knows my actions, then he already know's im just as bed... after all of this is done...will he kill me at some point?' She asls

Scarlet blinked, then slapped herself, the resounding smacking noise eschoing off the walls. 'Stop thinking that way, you foolish girl... this is it! You've won! They'll all die, and we can finally fulfill the Remiella Dream!” She laughs, taking a massive swig from the wine bottle. 'All our family has worked for will reach home... you should go to Treveila to be present for the money counting.... and for you to claim your title.'

She nodded to herself, going back to taking a sip from the glass. 'I guess I'll finish my business here in the next two week.... then return to my homeland ...a queen in it's own rights.' She thought siletnly, walking down the stairs.

One of the peopns turns. “Welcome, Milady... how may i-”

Scarlet cuts him off. She goes over to a wall where a musket rifle is, takes aim, and shoots him in the side. There is a loud shout of pain coming from the peon. “Ow!!! Was that for for?”

“Shut up and come with me... brother dear. Your darling sister has to mend your wounds.” She says, dragging him up the stairs.

The night is overcome by a sense of overwhelming dread, and I dare not remain out beyond a certain hour. My father says that even in his prime he would not risk the wrath of what lies in the shadows of our world today. I can only pray that the Gods bring a swift end to this nightmare.

Linde had waited since the girl, Scarlet, had left her Apothecary. She kept an eye outside, but never saw anything or anyone. The day dragged on, and a few hours later she decided that it was not safe to remain here anymore. She flipped the sign to "Closed" outside, and went home. When she walked inside, she had that feeling again that she was being watched. She took a breath, walking slowly through her home room by room keeping her eyes as sharp as those of a hawk the whole way.

Finally, she walked into her room.

She stopped just inside the door, and threw out her right arm with her fingers outstretched in a knifehand strike towards a small bit of darkness in the corner.

"Is there a reason why you're lurking in the corner of my room, or is it just my good luck?" She asked, turning her head towards the dark.

She froze.

Her body twitched, but she could not move.

Staring back at her from the blackness of the corner were a pair of glowing red eyes outlined by nothing except darkness. Even with the window partially open, it was almost as if his very presence made the room darker so that he was invisible in the shadows. Slowly, he stepped forward. He pressed against her fingers, bending them against the strength of his neck as he stepped into view.

Linde's heart leaped into her throat and her hands began trembling in fear at the sight of the scowl on his face and the deadly intent in his eyes.

However, against all reason, he smiled to her.

"Welcome home miss Almna. I trust business went well with miss Scarlet?" He asked, tilting his head to the side.

Linde couldn't even speak, she was so surprised. Not only did he know her name, but he knew Scarlet's name as well?

"I imagine I'm the last person you'd think would come to find you, but do please withhold your hostilities until I have had a moment to speak," he said, gently placing his own extended index finger of his right hand against her right wrist and softly pushing it away from him.

He ran his finger down her wrist halfway down her forearm, and pushed to the side. Her arm fell forward and then down to her side, her brain unable to remember to flex and keep it in place. She stood frozen, waiting for him to speak.

"You have extraordinary skill in medicines, and in fact studying your methods has taught me a thing or two. For that, I must thank you," he said, still smiling.

She couldn't believe what she was hearing. The Red-Eyed Demon, the King of Darkness, was thanking her for something? She didn't know whether to be pleased, horrified, or both at once. The two emotions conflicted, as it was nice to be thanked but the person doing the thanking was not one to inspire confidence or joy in her heart.

"I have business to attend to for the next few weeks miss Almna, and it's business I'm sure you'd rather not hear about. To that end, I will make a simple request of you now. It is a request which you are free to refuse, though if you do I will return no favor to you when you cannot recognize your own home," he warned, the smile partially vanishing.

She blinked, finally finding her voice.

"Wh-what do you mean I won't recognize my own home?" She asked.

He regarded her with a serious expression, the smile vanishing completely.

"What I am going to do will shake the foundation of human society to its core, and you will not recognize your home in both the metaphorical and literal sense. I can almost guarantee that this city's people will become more frantic and frightened than they've ever been in their entire lives, and there will be rioting and pillaging. If your home doesn't burn down, it will surely come under attack given how well you live compared to most of the common folk," he warned.

She blinked again, still unable to fully comprehend what he was saying.

"What do you want?" She asked, almost unconsciously.

His smile returned, and he walked forward putting his face just a few inches from hers.

"... Survive. If you can do that, and if you refuse to let what may come defeat you, I will come to repay the favor."

She was dumbstruck.

"My survival is a favor?"

He leaned in a tiny bit closer, and she felt her face flush now that she had a truly good look at how disarmingly handsome he was.

"Yes, miss Almna. I will have need of your medical skills upon my return, so if you can survive what is to come and promise me that you will lend me your aid, I will return the favor in full when the time comes."

She was silent for a few moments, and then nodded. She couldn't believe she just did that, but she did.

He nodded in return, and then was gone out her window. She sat down, feeling somewhat nauseous as she finally let it sink in that the Red-Eyed Demon had requested a favor of her and promised to return it in full. He didn't want to kill her without warning or cause as the legends would suggest, so what else about his reputation was false?

She could only wonder.

It was the dead of night, and through the alleyway a youth clad in black sprinted through the streets desperate to get away from a flood of pursuers. He had wandered into a tavern late at night around 10pm, and at around 11pm he had blindly insulted one of the waitresses in something of a drunken stupor. He was accosted by one of the local patrons, and he punched him out. Not more than two minutes later he was dashing through the streets for his life with over fifty men hot on his heels ready to beat him to death.

Finally, he made a mistake and found himself in a dead end alleyway. He stopped, looked for an escape, but found none. He cast a glance backwards from under his bangs, and saw that all the men had gathered at the entrance to the alley and were glaring him down, cracking their knuckles, and preparing their knives.

He could feel it. He was going to die tonight.

"Well, well, well... Lookey here lads! Our little bug has found himself stuck in a spider's web and he can't get out."

The men all started chuckling and laughing, preparing to give a beating of all beatings as the youth trembled with his back to the wall and his head ducked down slightly which hid his eyes from his attackers.

"P-Please don't do this. You'll regret it if you do!" The youth shouted as best he could through his fear.

The men all began roaring at him, pointing fingers and slapping each other on the back at the boy's remark.

"Ya hear that lads? We're going to regret beating him down for punching out our good ol' mate Dreg!"

The roaring continued, and the youth began to press himself against the wall a bit further.

"Please! I'm warning you! If you attack me, you will regret it!" The youth proclaimed again.

The men all began walking forward until their leader made it to the boy and glared down at him. The man was a colossus, standing around 7' tall and easily weighing 300 lb. of solid muscle with little fat on him at all.

"I hope you said all the prayers to the Gods you pray to boy. You're going to need a miracle to get out of this alive."

The man bore down on the boy, who started looking up but stopped just before his eyes became visible from under his bangs.

One of the men thought he saw something odd about them, but he shook his head to himself and felt that his own eyes played a trick on him. There's no way he just saw what he thought he saw. No way in Hell.

"Well kid, I can't say it was nice knowing you," the leader said as he raised his right fist into the air preparing to punch the youth in the face.

"Please, this is your last chance... Don't do this!" He pleaded.

"Too late kid!"

The man punched downwards for all his worth, and there was an indescribably "THUD" which echoed through the air in the alley. The men were all still as statues, trying to see around their leader to find out what had happened.

Suddenly, a loud and horrific "Crunch" began to appear. It was long, drawn out, continuous.

*Crunch... Crunch... Tear... Crunch...*

The horrible sounds continued, and they all felt that their leader had taken the kid's head off or was twisting it off. But his body wasn't moving.

Then, there was a trickle of blood dripping down which they saw from between their leaders legs. It started pooling under his legs, and now they were certain he'd taken the kid's head off.

... However...

"... I told you that you would regret this..." Came a much lower, more powerful voice than that which had been used against them before.

It was not their leader's voice either, and suddenly the trickle of blood turned into a waterfall.

A lump appeared in their leader's back, and through the flesh erupted a hand gripping the spine and pushing it outward pulling with it the lower part of the ribcage and ripping the lower spinal chord and tail bone free. The hand was covered in blood and had caught the edge of their leader's intestines, pushed and squeezed through the hole just made. The tail bone flicked out, spraying a few of the men behind him with his blood before his body slumped forward. His head rested on the youth's shoulder, and his face was now clearly visible with a pair of glowing red eyes staring back at them with a wicked smile plastered in place of where the terrified frown had been before.

The crunch intensified, and the fist squeezed shut, splintering the spinal chord and sending the tail bone and six inches of vertebrae with it to the ground while the rest of it just hung there limply outside the body. The abdominal aorta had been severed and separated from its usual path, and was now pouring his lifeblood to the ground out his back. The fist slowly disappeared through the hole and the body slumped to the floor.

In place of the frightened boy from before stood the Red-Eyed Demon, standing tall and unafraid against the horde of men before him armed to the teeth. He had left his own weapons behind at base, not worried about needing them against the likes of such a group of men who were obviously amateurs.

The men faltered, and as their leader lost the light in his eyes at the feet of the Red-Eyed Demon they began backing away very slowly. The Demon didn't move, and slowly their confidence began to build.

"He caught him by surprise! Nothing more! He's unarmed! If we kill this Demon we'll be the wealthiest men in the world! C'mon lads! Let's finish the Red-Eyed Demon off!!" Came a shout.

The Demon's smile widened.

The men all began crowding him and began beating down on him with all their might. Punching him in the face, the chest, stomach, back, kidneys, kicking his legs and stomping on him after knocking him to the ground, the Demon simply let it happen. Finally, his eyes closed, and the men thought they'd killed him.

One of them knelt down with his knife and pointed the tip towards the Demon's left eye, only to have his eyes shoot open and his hand grabbed the man's wrist. In something of an ironic twist of fate, the blade was shoved into the left eye socket of the man holding the knife, and the Demon watched with glee as his blood spilled out and started dripping down onto his face. He closed his eyes and relished the feeling of the blood washing over him.

And the scent... It was ecstasy.

The Demon opened his eyes and reached out with his right hand to grab the man's forehead. The man was still conscious and screaming his lungs out, and the Demon squeezed his fingers down and a horrible "Crunch" sound again filled the alley. The man's skull began compressing, and finally it was crushed under the weight of the Demon's grip. His skull caved in, sending splinters into the brain and the Demon's fingers found the brain as well, crushing in harder and harder until the entire skull popped like a melon in his grip. The bone and brain spilled to the ground and the man's screaming stopped.

The men looked at the Demon as he rose to his feet. His face, thought covered in blood not his own, was devoid of damage. The rest of his body was also unharmed. Not a single scratch to be seen on any of his even his clothing.

The Demon's smile vanished, and he glared at the men as they began rushing him again. This time, counter to his previous lack of action, he took action against everyone who came towards him. The first one was aiming a knife at his stomach, and he let the blade hit his shirt before it was bent and broken by the immeasurably tough material that was his clothing. Once the blade had met its end, the Demon grabbed what was left of it and shoved it literally down the man's throat. Having grabbed his neck with his left hand and the broken blade in his right, the Demon shoved his hand down the man's throat all the way to his shoulder. His arm reached down into the man's stomach and broke through, spilling his digestive fluids into his stomach cavity and onto his other major organs and veins within reach of his fist.

Another man came in, and the Demon wrenched his hand free of the previous victim and literally put a hole through his chest. The Demon's hand was in a knife hand shape, and it had been thrust right through the man's ribcage splitting through the ribs and severing the heart from the arteries around it causing it to fall down into the chest cavity. The Demon looked to his right and saw another man rushing him, and he ripped his arm free through the man's side nearly splitting him in two and spraying his blood into the face and eyes of his new attacker. The man faltered, and he felt a twinge of pain in his neck before his eyes slowly opened. The Demon was smiling at him, and turned his head around and he saw that his body was on the ground and the Demon was in fact holding his head up off the ground.

Somewhere in the time it took him to close his eyes, the Demon had ripped his head off of his shoulders and had the nerve to show him his own body. What a......

The night was engulfed in the sounds of battle and death, and before long the alley was filled with nothing but a stream of corpses on the ground. The entire alley was painted with blood from the ground to the edge of the roof, and the ground itself was painted red from the dead end of the alley to the open street around forty feet away. The Demon was nowhere to be found, and remarkably, despite how much blood there was, there were no tracks save for those of the men who had been splattered about the alley. No other boot prints, no hand prints, no smears where feet could have slid or slipped... Nothing.

Morning came, and the alley was blocked off to the general public as a cleaning crew was brought in to remove the... remains.

Come midday, the word had spread throughout Valkyom that the Crimson Twins were still in the area and were still on the hunt for something.

The day was young, but the air was already thick with the scent of blood.

Standing in a pool of blood not his own was the Red-Eyed Demon. His Twin blades, one in each hand, dripped heavily the oozing crimson liquid. His face was down, his eyes hidden behind his bangs, and a frown on his face.

"It's... not the same," he said as he slowly sheathed the blades.

He lifted his head and looked around, his eyes flashing brightly in the dim light of an otherwise dark room devoid of life save for his own. Once, twice, three times. His eyes flashed and flickered violently as his anger mounted, and his jaw flexed as he grit his teeth against his anger. He had been under the impression that this place, a somewhat hidden gathering place of mercenaries would yield some information about a small portion of his business in the near future, but there was no such luck. It angered him that his informant had been incorrect.

He walked about, smelling the blood on his clothing and grimacing.

They had been cowards, all of them. The blood of cowards always held a foul tinge to it versus the blood of someone confident or at least trying someone trying to be brave in the face of his presence. Complete fear and panic was something he detested, and he clenched his fist as he turned to the wall next to him and lashed out at it with a punch, smashing a hole straight through eight inches of solid wood to the other side. He retracted his hand and shook it, flicking off any dust or wood chips caught on his clothing. He looked to his side and spotted a support beam, and with a swift spin kick he kicked the middle completely out causing it to bend and creak under the weight of the building above. He kicked out the other supports and then leaped out of the window, making his way to the roof of the building across the way as he watched that building collapse.

He let out a huff of angry air and disappeared into the city, determined to find his informant and kill him for providing him with bad information.

Watching from above, he observed the events unfolding below with great interest and pride. The fact that he had nothing to do with such a successful manipulation of events was intriguing, but there was one detail he could not overlook and that was what happened towards the end. Scarlet was stabbed, and was losing blood fast. Linde's Apothecary was on the other side of the city, and there was no way her little "peons" as she called them would get her there in time.

To save his new asset, he had to act against his better judgment.

He stood up on the edge of the roof and bent his knees. He jumped fifteen feet off the rooftop, which was already forty feet off the ground for a jumping height of fifty five feet. He dove head first and flipped at the last second, landing in front of Scarlet's peon a he tried to carry her away from the scene. His landing, due to his heavy equipment and such, created a small crater in the cobblestone streets and several dozen cracks in it as well as kicking up a dust cloud around him. He stood up slowly, his full figure rising like that of the Demon of legends would expect to. Slowly, deliberately, without any sense of harm or difficulty despite the feat he just pulled.

He walked towards the peon carrying Scarlet and glared him down. The peon was so startled that he couldn't move or speak, though one peon to his side tried to jump in between them to protect his unconscious leader.

With a single backhand strike to the man's chest, the peon went flying over twenty fee through the air before sliding along the ground and smashing into a few wooden crates nearby. He was unconscious, but remarkably not dead despite the force used against him. The peon carrying Scarlet looked over to his now fallen comrade, and then back to the Demon before him as his glowing red eyes grew brighter.

"Hand her over, and I will ensure her safe return."

The peon was speechless, but the Demon's glare was not to be ignored for it carried a serious and very obvious warning that if he was ignored the peon would die. To preserve his life, as well as that of his leader, he handed Scarlet to the Demon. The moment she was secured in his arms, the Demon spun on his heel and took off at a sprint. In an instant he was halfway across the clearing in the street before he leaped thirty feet up to the side of a building where he landed feet first, bending his knees and jumping to another building nearby, again landing feet first on the side, and then leaping onto the rooftop of the next and disappearing, leaving the peon standing there fearing for his life when Scarlet found out that the Demon had to intervene in order for her to be safely delivered to Linde.

About one and a half minutes later, the door to Linde's Apothecary was opened and the Demon walked in carrying Scarlet, blood still dripping from her side. Linde threw her book across the room as she ran forward to help, and she got to work immediately while the Demon closed the door and flipped the sign to "Closed." He watched Linde's work, as he wanted to confirm his assessment of her medical skills. She worked quickly and flawlessly under pressure even though the patient was someone she cared for. The procedure took longer than expected, as the blade nicked Scarlet's intestines but Linde was able to contain and prevent further tearing of the tissue by applying a specially blended and biologically friendly adhesive.

She closed the wound and wrapped Scarlet's body carefully, and once she was finished she let out a sigh of relief that Scarlet was steady and sleeping soundly. The Demon had applied a salve of his own on the wound before stitching it closed, one similar to that he used on Scarlet's hand before to numb it to pain though this was a stronger dose. When finished, the two of them sat across from one another in the lobby. Linde stared at the Demon, silently taking in his features and trying to gauge what he was thinking. However, it was impossible. Scarlet had a better ability to read people than she did, but she could read the medical signs like no other. There was clearly nothing medically wrong with the Demon as he sat there staring back at her.

"I should thank you for bringing her here," she said.

He shook his head.

"I am protecting an asset, nothing more. There is no reason to thank me for that. If Scarlet dies, her organization dies with her and I cannot allow that... Not yet," he said coldly.

Her eyebrows went up in surprise.

"Wait, what? You mean that you eventually plan to kill her?"

He shrugged.

"For now that is my issue to worry about, not yours. Just enjoy your relationship with her and prepare for when I need you. That time is coming soon, in ten days."

With that he stood up and started to walk towards the door.

"Wait... what do you mean it's your issue and not mine?"

He turned on her, startling her.

"Do not make me repeat myself miss Almna. Prepare yourself for in ten days I will be in need of your services and I expect you to honor our agreement. If you do not, my sister will not hesitate to end your life, Scarlet's, and those of everyone else involved in our affairs. It will be quite the blood bath for the continent of Cre' Est. Now, if you will kindly get back to the person who needs your attention the most, I have business to attend to. When Scarlet wakes, tell her I'm on my way to Triveila to take care of a mutual agreement and that she too can expect my return in ten days."

Linde was almost speechless, but she dared not argue further. She was pressing her luck as it was. But this was new. Either the Demon slipped in telling her that Scarlet's organization could potentially become a threat in his eyes, or he meant to say it to shake her up. Either way, she knew that Scarlet was more than she claimed. Her organization wasn't just what she said it was previously, that much was clear. If the Demon was concerned about it, there was much more that she had yet to learn about her new companion... But for now, that could wait.

She sat by Scarlet's side with a hand on the woman's forehead, gently using her thumb to stroke her brow while waiting for her to wake.

Meanwhile, back on the other side of town, the Demon had once again taken to the rooftops to observe something new taking place.
