Most people would describe Haley as a pretty girl, but it's always followed by 'you could be prettier if you tried.' Haley's blonde hair is long and often messy. She doesn't put a lot of time into her appearance like her sister, preferring to remain as natural as possible. Her hair, blue eyes, and pretty face makes natural easy, but everyone would agree her sister is the more attractive of the pair. Haley has a slim, petite figure, lacking muscle due to inactivity. She keeps her hair down, but doesn't do much to style. Haley likes to part it on the left side and be done with it.
She doesn't have much of a style. Black is typically her color of choice when it comes to colors. Haley doesn't care for having nice or fancy clothing. She'll be happy in some sweatpants and a big T-shirt. Temperature doesn't have much of an effect on Haley so she is often found wearing long sleeves when it's warm outside. Dresses or skirts are a rare occurrence, or forced upon her. She likes flannel shirts, ripped jeans, and a pair of boots or sneakers.
STRENGTHSXX
XXβ₯ Fearless : Haley rarely has any problems with fear. She doesn't get squeamish at gross sights or bothered by horrific events. Haley fears some things, but she remains largely unaffected by what normal people would fear.
XXβ₯ Research : Haley has a love of obscure things and learn random information. She's become skilled at finding information in libraries and the internet. Information through communication is more difficult, but people tend to tell Haley what she wants so she'll leave them alone.
XXβ₯ Clever : Haley has shown a astute mind when it comes to learning. She picks up on information quickly and can retain it, as long as it intrigues her. She's considered one of the smartest students at Astoria High.
WEAKNESSES
XX β₯ Erratic : Haley is very unpredictable with her activities and reactions. She may go from ignoring the bullies to facing them head on. Her assignments may be completed to perfection or not turned in at all. She's moody and people tend to stay away.
XX β₯ Audacious : Haley is known to go head first into a situation without thinking of the consequences. She has no regard for her own safety, or others. It's not that she doesn't care, but she doesn't think far ahead.
XX β₯ Aloof : Haley has never been a people person. She doesn't react nicely to new people and is distant with everyone. It makes people wary of her.
FEARSXX
XXβ₯ Water : When Haley was eight, she and her family went to the lake. Haley jumped into the lake and her lifejacket came off, causing her to begin drowning. It was a traumatic experience so she avoids pools and large bodies of water.
XXβ₯ Cars : Haley lost her Mom in a car accident. She was in the car with her when it happened. She now refuses to ride in them. Buses, bikes, or walking is her method of transportation. When in a car, she starts to hyperventilate forcing herself into a panic attack.
XXβ₯ Abandonment : With Haley's losses and abandonment by those closest to her, Haley fears being left behind. She appears uninterested in making relationships, but she doesn't want to be hurt again.
SECRETS
XX β₯ Phone Calls : Haley has been receiving phone calls from the kidnapper. They've said she's the only one who could figure out who they are and understands them. It started off as harmless until the kidnapper became a killer. Haley keeps threatening to bring the police in, but the recent kidnapping of her sister has made her desperate to find out who is committing these crimes.
XXβ₯ Affair : After the police questioned Haley about her mother's death, one of the officer began to pay her special attention. It was the first time Haley was favored over her sister and she went with it. He actually listens to her and doesn't dismiss her odd interests. Haley cares for him and the fact that it began when she was underage would cause him trouble and that's the last thing Haley wants.
XXβ₯ Her Job : Haley is naturally intelligent so she uses it for profit. People pay her to write their papers or do their homework. She doesn't mind as long as people are willing to pay. The school would have a fit if they found out so it's easier for it to be a secret.
PERSONALITYXXX Haley is the outcast of the school for a reason. It used to be because she enjoyed being by herself. She liked having only a few people in her life. The popular kids on TV never seemed happy with their 'friends.' A few close friends sounded much easier. Now, her reclusive nature is a way of survival. She's been abandoned before and doesn't want to go through it again. Her outlook is mostly realistic. The whole believe and achieve mentality doesn't make sense to her. It's better to base things on facts and evidence.
Haley is aware her tastes are morbid. Not many teenage girls are interested in serial killers and crimes, but Haley doesn't let it bother her. She's had to make peace with who she is. Haley is happy with who she is. Others may think it odd, but she's the one who has to live with whatever identify she has. It may come as nonchalance, but her confidence level is hers alone to control. She doesn't allow the airhead popular kids and jocks determine that she's a loser or a freak. She is who she is.
Haley doesn't go down quietly either. She has a quick-witted with others, always ready with a comeback for the bullies. Her humor tends to be sarcastic and dry so it tends to go over the bullies' head, which makes it even funnier for her. She appreciates a challenge if another kid is able to match her wit. It's not any fun to argue with an idiot.
The whole friendship thing is difficult for Haley. She doesn't have a ton of experience with it so she tends to make a fool of herself when trying to be nice. It can be awkward for her to deal with whole mushy, meaningful friend thing. She shows affection by being protective. Haley will be your number one supporter if you need her. It should surprise anyone how defensive she can get about things, or people, she cares about.
HISTORYXXX The birth of Haley and her twin sister, Hannah, was a miracle in itself. Richard Thomas and his wife, Katherine, were high school sweethearts, and couple goals by today's standards. They married right after high school and couldn't wait to start a family. They'd been trying for ten years until they finally went to a doctor who told them Richard was infertile. It broke Richard's heart that he couldn't give his wife the family she wanted. They put their time into their work, Katherine as a nurse and Richard as mechanic shop owner. Richard began to pour what money he had into treatments to increase their chances of pregnancy. On her birthday, Katherine discovered she was pregnant. The couple was ecstatic, Richard mostly. He finally gave Katherine what she wanted.
Haley and Hannah grew up in a household of love. They were the picture of a perfect family, always on fun vacations or goofing around at the house. Haley and Hannah were very different. Hannah loved dancing, cheer leading, and being around people. Haley was more reserved and enjoyed learning and books, especially murder mysteries. She became interested in horror, crimes, and serial killers, things little girls typically shouldn't enjoy. Rather than dismiss these interests, Haley's mother embraced it. She wanted Haley to be who she wanted, even if who she is is a strange. Hannah and her father agreed, going along with Haley's interests.
Life began to get harder for Haley when people stopped humoring her interests. High school changes people and it began to change her sister. Hannah became more focused on popularity and being a cheerleader. Having a sister who was into freaky stuff was not good for her image. Hannah began to distance herself from Haley until the only time they spoke to each other at home. Haley didn't have many friends so she became a target for bullying. They called her 'freak' and 'psycho.' Hannah never participated but she never did anything to stop it either. Haley never mentioned it at home, offering Hannah the chance to make it up to her. An apology never came. Haley holds out hope she might change. She still had her mom though.
Tragedy struck the family when Haley was fifteen. Haley and her mother were driving back from one of Hannah's cheer leading competitions, singing karaoke loudly in the car. It had been raining the whole day and the roads were slick. When her mother went to make a turn, the car suffered from hydroplaning and ran off the road. The car rolled over five times before the car stopped, upside down. Haley had a broken wrist, bruises, and scratches all over her body. The paramedics tried, but her mother died after the third role. It was traumatic as Haley when Haley's father and Hannah came to get her, watching the two of them break down. This event marked the end of their happy family.
Haley's father threw himself into his work, and alcohol. He was rarely home. The few nights he was, he'd cry or yell at his daughters. He never hurt them, but he wasn't the loving father they grew up with anymore. Hannah became more invested in the party scene and her popularity, barely spending any nights at home. Haley never felt more isolated. One nice thing came out of it. She met Adam O'Connor, a young police officer on the scene at the accident. He was handsome and charming, kept in touch with Haley after the accident citing that he lost his mother the same way. He understood her in a way no one else did. Their relationship started off platonic until Haley suggested taking it to the next level. The affair has been ongoing, but under wraps due to their five year age difference. It's one of Haley's few relationships and one she doesn't want to be tampered with.
Haley didn't really know Evan Lynn outside of that he was popular and actually a nice person. She was initially intrigued because it was similar to the disappearances in Astoria back in the 90s. She ended up looking back through the documents in the library when she was slipped a note with a phone number asking her to call it. Haley did and the voice, obviously using a modifier, said they had information about the kidnapper. They had regular conversations, but their last one ended in anger from Haley. The voice finally admitted to being the kidnapper, and killer. The killer lashed out at her, saying she was the only one who understood him but now even she turned on him. Haley's sister was taken a few days later. Haley's father is panicking and Adam is doing his best with his policework to find her, but Haley believes she's the only one who can figure it out. The killer has threatened that Haley's sister is going to die if she helps the police. It's a race for Haley to find out who is behind this.
