It is a curious thing, how I see beauty in death rather than life.
The stillness of a body,
skin translucent with colorful veins seemingly floating to the surface.
The whisper of a last breath,
the vivid red of blood like roses pooling around them.
Yes, death is beautiful.

Or perhaps I am simply jealous?

ImageAs children we romanticized the idea of magic; making moving pictures painted with beautiful fairies and exquisite beings influenced by the colorful illustrations depicted in history books. Witches were wicked, they said, wizards would enchant girls into falling in love with them and then eat their hearts. The movies twisted these stories, selling the idea that with a few magic words and the wave of a wand, one could change their fate entirely. Such ideas weren't foreign, the wealthy had always had the resources to pour their efforts into searching for spells that could grant eternal life or cure ailments that the poor suffered from day in day out. Witches they called them and the old families suffered, burning at the stake, at the hands of the very ones who had so romanticized the idea off magic. In order to protect themselves, the wealthy hid their abilities. They used their magic in only the most subtle of ways to keep themselves in power, passing down their secrets from generation to generation. They lived in constant fear of being discovered and persecuted and so, using their influence, they built a wall to separate the wealthy from the common people.

Image

Image

ImageWhat became of the rest of humanity? Without the use of spells to keep them youthful, they used technology and science, developing medicines that were regulated by the government and using the internet for just about everything. They made strides in their advancements, protecting their territories with large robots that could be operated via a pair of humans. The more advanced they grew, the less of a need for magic there was. People once more, began to fear magic, they thought witches to be demons hiding in the bodies of their loved ones. After all, their abilities had no place in this world. Their very existence became illegal. In some cases, they were seen as sick and in need of healing. Others saw them as nothing more than trophies that could be exchanged for necessary resources. As the world continued down the road of supposed advancement; those with the old gifts of magic continued to hide in plain sight, disguising themselves as normal humans. To prove that they were not evil, that magic was not to be feared, one girl took upon the burden of taking up a name to fight against evil on her own, perhaps with the occasional assistance of her trusty servant.

❝And we're on a quest to break the barrier and save the world!❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#007F03 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #B20070

|| The Blond Executioner ||

Night was falling, and the kittens had returned with their spoils from the adventure they had in the jungle to collect food for them. Estelle was panting as she limped away, the dark energy so thick she could hardly breathe any longer. This happened last time too, the first time she had been here at the edge of their prison was why every night she had been suffering from the miasma. With her feet in the water she whimpered, stripping her outfit off in order to try to get a refresher under the light of the moon. On her stomach near her womb there were strange markings, lines, symbols, all an oily black sheen. It was getting worse now, every night it had been worsening. Not that she would let anyone see it of course, they would only worry. It wasn't like anyone could do anything about it anyways.

"Hans, I'm sorry." She whispered, trying not to cry as she bathed in the salt water of the sea, long blonde hair fluttering and fanning out around her. "I promised to live, but just look at me." Now that they were here again she could feel it for sure, the poison of the miasma seeping through every part of her body, flowing through her veins, her lungs, her heart. She coughed, blood splattering onto her hand. "Gotta wipe it off..." She murmured, trying to stand up but falling. Still the heroine kept her hand above the water, not wanting to attract any sharks. In her bones, in the rattling, with every breath, she could feel it. Her life was winding down thanks to her obsessive hunt for the truth. Did she have enough time to see what was on the other side and make it back to spread the word? She didn't know.

So they had to rush, they had to get to the Barrier before it was too late. Morning came and Fearsome was looking a tiny bit better now that he had some food in him. "We have to go." Estelle, fully dressed again, conjured up a sword. She could feel the miasma spreading as she did so but it didn't matter, not when they were this close. The sun was bearing down on them, the Barrier's mocking hum could be heard in the air. "Are you okay, Master?" Maple was rubbing her back but even she didn't know just how bad it had spread. "Yeah! I'm perfectly fine! Let's go and be heroes!" She grinned, helping Fearsome onto the sword. He gave her a peculiar look as if wondering why she was pretending to be so well. He could likely tell just how far along she was.

So they flew off the island, heading for the open ocean. The miasma continued to grow thicker, thicker. "We're flying in a straight line." Estelle said grimly to make sure they all knew. About half an hour later the were back to the island that they had just left from. "So that means the barrier is fifteen minutes in at the same speed." Fearsome added unhelpfully. So they flew again, and fifteen minutes later, the miasma was at it's thickest. Estelle coughed again, more blood spurting out, her back screaming in pain. "I wonder if this can work." She pressed her hand to what she hoped was the Barrier, focusing her mana. Would it work? Would it kill her? There was only one way to find out.

❝They say that cats are angels with whiskers.❞

Clover licked her lips, she knew that something was amiss, that after all this flying, Estelle was't doing great, but how could she help? The kitten looked up at the barrier, her hands balling into fists. "Clover will do it from here," she decided. "I'll help," Maple was determined, the two kittens would do something to bring down the barrier, or at least form a hole big enough for Estelle to escape through. They were on the island closest to the edge, it didn't seem as though Estelle could hold on for much longer either. "I have an idea," Fearsome pipped up, walking forward. "Fang, can you conjure up a metal wire?" He inquired and Maple nodded, using her ability to create a thin, flexible metal rope that had a hook at the end. "Perfect," he grinned, "Blossom, whenever you're ready, form a hole. Once the hole is big enough, we'll throw the wire through and use magic to electrocute the rest of the barrier." Would it work? Who knew? But perhaps if they overloaded the force field with their abilities, then they could break it?

"Alright kitties, give it your best shot," Fearsome gave them a thumb's up. "Just sit down there Dazzle and relax, we'll take it from here." Clover turned towards the barrier, her mana stone lighting up. She reached out, focusing on the collective magic that was gathered above them. She needed to absorb it, to pull it all towards her. At first, it was just a small cluster, but then, slowly, a bigger hole formed. It grew wider, deepening until Clover felt a tug, the barrier resisting. "Now!" Fearsome yelled, Maple jumping to her feet. She swung her metal hook, tossing it up and hanging onto the end. The hook latched, Fearsome grabbing it from Maple and pushing both cats aside, magic shooting out of his body and up the wire. It climbed swiftly, looking like redirected lightning.

"I need more power!" Fearsome yelled, his magic alone not enough. Maple ran over, grabbing onto the wire and using her little amount of magic to help. Clover looked around, Estelle couldn't help them, not in the condition she was in. "Clover will help!" She bound over, using the mana stored up in her stone to assist. The barrier began to crackle, making strange sounds, small pops all around them, like popcorn. "Just a little longer!" Fearsome yelled, Maple screaming as she pushed as much mana onto the line as she could. Clover too, gave it her all, the barrier cracking like glass. It began to shatter, large fragments of magic falling all around them. "We did it!" Maple cried, falling to her knees. Fearsome collapsed, the collected miasma in his body beginning to dissipate.

"Look out!" Clover shoved Estelle out of the way, using her mana stone to absorb the sharp fragment that fell. It shattered, scattering into glittering dust all around them. The white haired kitten slowly rose to her feet, looking around, trying to see past the barrier. "Clover can see an ocean," her eyes sparkled, a wide, vast sea stretching out before them.

❝And we're on a quest to break the barrier and save the world!❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#007F03 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #B20070

|| The Blond Executioner ||

Estelle was shivering with every step. Was she cold? Was she hot? It was hard to tell either way. She stared at the Barrier, fierce hatred brewing. This was what was holding them back, this was what was keeping them trapped here like this. She held her hand to the Barrier, focusing all her mana to her hand. "Brace yourselves!" She yelled over the raging waves. What effect would this have now? What could they do? But then her power wouldn't come out. "You've got nothing left, let us handle this." Fearsome told her, putting a hand on her shoulder. "Just rest, Dazzle." She grimaced. This was her duty! She had been chasing this for so long now! But now she was being pushed aside now? "Fine, I'll leave it to you guys then."

Panting, she rested on a light sword above the ocean, facing the barrier. She watched as Maple made the metal rod, and as Fearsome got to work. He had recovered well since last night, hadn't he? The three of them got to work, using the metal wire to try to access the Barrier. Estelle watched quietly, knowing that she was needed because it was her magic that could keep them afloat. But it seemed it wasn't enough, not yet. Estelle grit her teeth, the pain rippling through every part of her body. The combined efforts of Fearsome, Maple, and Clover, and eventually they heard the sound of crackling glass, the Barrier coming down. Estelle's eyes almost glowed as she saw it. Glistening, the blue ocean. "Let's go." Estelle muttered, truth on the sails. "Let's see what we've been missing out on."

So they flew, flew across the ocean. It took almost the entire day to get across, and Estelle's power continued to wane as they went. Who was waiting on the other side, who was the one responsible for all of this? And then they reached land. Estelle looked around, eyes wide. What was this? Why was it all gone? "This is weird, Dazzle." Maple said quietly, glancing at the scene. Why was everything scorched? Why were giant miasma monsters walking in the distance? Where was humanity? Where was civilization? "Is this the big secret?" Fearsome asked, shuddering as he clung to a sword for balance. "What is happening?" The former True Heroine fell to her knees, all the strength leaving her, mind working a million miles a second.

"Mages destroyed the world." This was miasma, and this was why it was leaking in. "What did you do?" Fearsome asked, staring at her. "Was this your plan, Dazzle?" Everything was ruined now. There was no humanity outside of the Barrier. There was nothing out here but death and destruction. Ashes and miasma and poison air and genocide. "I don't know." The Barrier, if it was meant to protect them? If it wasn't a prison this whole time? "The Miasma's going to seep in stronger now, probably." The blonde said as she shivered violently, coughing again. "Did we just doom everyone?"

❝They say that cats are angels with whiskers.❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#A4D3EE ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #FFADB9

|| Be Brave || Owl City ||

Clover gulped, wondering if they had just doomed the entirety of Min-City. They had been so desperate to know whether or not anything was out there that they hadn't stopped to think of the consequences. The two kittens exchanged a glance, knowing that they had to do something. Their Master had nothing left, an empty juice box, a drained battery. Clover bit down on her thumbnail, wondering if there was any way they could fix this. The kitten pulled out one of her magic books, knowing that this was the time any of them might come in handy. "What about... exorcism?" Clover suggested as they floated over the wasteland that no doubt was once civilization. Fearsome too, seemed troubled by the latest development.
"This isn't the end, don't worry!" Maple chirped, attempting to look on the bright side.

Clover held the book open to them, pointing to the diagram on the page. A five tipped star, what if they could draw a huge one across the surface of this place and exorcise the miasma? "Can draw points using mana stones," which were magic reactive, which meant that they would activate once the user put them into place. "One problem," Clover said softly, "Needs sacrifice." In order to perform an exorcism this large, the one performing the ceremony had to sacrifice something. It didn't have to be physical, it could be emotional, memorial, or even symbolical. "I'll do it," Fearsome suddenly offered. "I have nothing left to lose," he grinned despite his words, projecting the image of a man who had lost everything and yet, continued to live.

Clover nodded, not wanting to know what he was going to sacrifice. "Now must make pentagon," Clover showed them the picture once more, they had to plot five points that would make a star across the land. Once they did that, they could activate the stones and use the sacrifice to exorcise all of the miasma covering the land. Clover's smile was soft, "Will help Dazzle and Dazzle will save the world," she tucked the book back into her pocket, "Dazzle will save Min City, just like promised." Maple threw her arms around Clover, the two of them nearly falling off of the sword. "Clover, you're a genius!" Maple cooed, "I knew there was a reason you came." Maple took one of Estelle's hands, "Master, do you have it in you to take us to the five points?"

The faster they did it, the faster they could save Estelle from this pain.

❝And we're on a quest to break the barrier and save the world!❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#007F03 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #B20070

|| The Blond Executioner ||

The two cats had thought up a plan that might save this world. According to them, all they needed was to make the pentagram. However it needed to be large, and required a sacrifice, which Fearsome was going to volunteer for as someone who had nothing left to lose now. "I'll do my best." Estelle knew that they couldn't just leave it like this. What their ancestors had done, thousands of years ago... she was going to try to fix. Could she do it? If there really was a solution like this, why hadn't mages done something about it already? There was something else here that they didn't know, and a part of Estelle burning deep inside was screaming out to be allowed to go and find out why. Something didn't make sense, and that curiosity was eating away at her.

But first, they had to-

Clap. Clap. Clap. Three figures appeared behind them from a shadow cast on them by one of the miasma giants that wandered the ruined Earth. Manfred was there, smiling widely at them. Victoria was there too, seeming a bit dizzy from traveling via shadows. And of course Erika was there too, except there was something wrong. Her eyes were utterly blank and she was bound by a strange machine clasping her wrists, her stomach, her chest - the four main mana nodes on a body. "Why is she pregnant?" Estelle asked tiredly, having no energy left in her to do anything. Fearsome was there to answer that. "It was Umbral who did it, before you blame the wrong one here. He wanted to create a child with immense mana power, and she wasn't able to do anything to stop it." It was hard to see earlier but the bulge was very visible now, protruding greatly from her womb.

"I'm proud of you, Estelle. You've worked so hard and now you finally succeeded." Manfred was smiling happily, hands behind his back as he stood tall over them. "Now we can finally take back the world and teach humans that mages are to rule." There was a desperation in his eyes as he spoke now, Victoria patting his arm and never letting go of that strange machine. "By harnessing the power of miasma, we can restore our Island to it's natural state - one with mages on top and humans locked away in the corners of society to hide and cry in fear. As fellow mages, let's work together for a brighter future." But didn't he see? Mages was why this all happened in the first place! Humans couldn't have made the barrier, it had to have been mages. Something else was going on here but she didn't know how to put it into words.

But still, she couldn't let Manfred do as he wants. Not here, at the edge of the world itself. "I'm going to end this." Every mage could do this. If you focused your mana on a single node, it'll explode and cause a blast of pure mana energy strong enough to scorch everything around you to cinders. If she could do that, Manfred would no longer be able to terrorize this world. "I'm going to end this all." Estelle whispered, nearly succumbing to the pain of everything about her. Then Fearsome grabbed her by the wrist. "What are you doing you moron. Self sacrifice was never attractive in a woman." He drew a rune that created a small wooden boat, all four of them hopping on. Fearsome's plan was to get back to shore and then there, given some time to recharge, they could properly challenge Manfred and his ideals.

❝They say that cats are angels with whiskers.❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#A4D3EE ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #FFADB9

|| Be Brave || Owl City ||

Clover was ready to jump the plan into motion, as were Maple and Fearsome. They truly believed that it would work, the pentagram would be able to purge the miasma and restore the surface to its former glory. The kittens held hands, Maple excitedly praising Clover for being so smart. "You're so good," Maple purred, scritching Clover below the chin. Fearsome rolled his eyes, perhaps jealous that he wasn't the one doing the petting. "Incestuous much?" He snickered, wondering how a set of twins could be so vastly different and yet, so attached to each other. "Jealous?" Maple stuck her tongue out as Fearsome stomped over, petting them both. The kitties seemed to melt, Fearsome knowing exactly where to scritch to set their tails a flutter with swishes. It was only the slow clap that made them all turn, the white haired kitten's jaw dropping when she saw who was standing there.

Maple tensed up, placing her hand on Clover's shoulder. The kitten glanced at the strange human, the one whose tummy was large and swollen, with a machine attached to her. She was sleeping, Clover believed, but still looked as though she were in great amounts of pain. "Clover doesn't like," the kitten hissed, looking at the man they called Manfred. He had a plan to ruin this world, to hurt humans and make them sad. Clover's tail wound up, the more he spoke, the more she wanted to stop him. They were supposed to be superheroes weren't they? What were they if they couldn't save one girl from whatever plot this vile man had? "Blossom, no." Maple's hand tightened, attempting to draw Clover backwards. "We can't beat him, you need to calm down." Maple said worriedly as Fearsome conjured up a boat for them to make their escape on.

Clover locked eyes with that strange device. She jumped out in a split decision. "Blossom is hero, isn't she? So Blossom will save human!" She declared, her mana stone lighting up in order to absorb whatever attack Manfred may conjure up. "No! Clover, get back here!" Maple screamed, Fearsome holding her back. Their little boat had already begun to set sail, hastily making its retreat away from Manfred and Victoire. "No, Clover, get back here!" Maple screamed, thrashing as Fearsome and Estelle held her back. "Blossom will win!" She declared, running at Manfred. She pulled a brew out of her utility belt, throwing it at his feet. Smoke burst into the air, blinding them. The kitten side swiped the woman, sending her sprawling on the ground.

She absorbed the first attack from Manfred, punching him in the stomach and flipping him over her shoulder. She could win this, she didn't need magic, she just needed to beat them, take the human, and run. Even if Clover could only save one person, she would still consider it a success if that person got to live happily. The woman returned, vines crawling out of her arms. The smoke began to dissipate, so Clover used another potion, this one to melt the ground in front of her in an acid slick. Victoire stopped, trapped by the bubbling concrete. Manfred launched at Clover, bursting from the smoke. She absorbed his attack, but suddenly, he grinned wickedly. Clover bounced back, nearly falling into the acid. Manfred came forth, taking the offensive, throwing a punch, but feigning at the last second. From behind him he drew a sword, slashing it across Clover's chest.

"NOOOOO!" Maple screamed as Clover fell to her knees. He drove the sword through her, Clover's mana stone shattering into glittering blue pieces. The kitten looked down as she bled, confused as to how it happened. Vines crawled up her limbs, constricting her neck, choking her. "Oh dear," Victoire said, "what a naughty little kitty. Whatever are we to do with her?" She pushed Clover's face towards the puddle of acid, a Cheshire like smile on her lips. "It looks like we're going to have to teach her a lesson." Manfred grabbed her hair, pulling her head back away from the bubbling concrete. "Well, well, what a cute little toy you have to play with," Victoire smiled, driving the sword in deeper, twisting it around to open the wound up. Clover cried out in agony, the lack of oxygen making her vision dance.

"I know just what to do with her," Manfred said as her eyes closed, a hand reaching for her.

❝And we're on a quest to break the barrier and save the world!❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#007F03 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #B20070

|| The Blond Executioner ||

With Fearsome's boat it seemed that they were going to get out of here safe and alive and be able to come up with a plan another time. Wasn't that the ideal situation, considering the circumstances? Estelle was the strongest one here, but she had hardly any juice left in her. If she tried to fight she would surely die and Fearsome knew that if they were going to save the world they would need her mighty strength back at full force. Erika's eyes opened, soulless as she stared at the escaping boat. What was running through her mind? What did that girl see? And then Blossom jumped out from the boat, claws whirling with incredible speed, the spirit of heroism burning through her despite how powerful the two opponents were. "Fang! Fearsome! We have to back her up!"

What could they do? Against such a powerful opponent, it all seemed as if it would be hopeless. Manfred reached out to grab the half dead Clover, all of her alchemy unable to help against the second most powerful mage in all the land. "My my, won't this be fun, Erika." He dangled Clover in front of the shadow mage's eyes but it seemed she either couldn't see or couldn't react, simply staring like a dead mummy in front of her at nothing. Fearsome attacked with his runes, creating blasts of energy to attack the enemy, Fang created a storm of tiny little fur daggers to fly at Manfred's eyes, and of course Estelle flew at them, spinning like a top full of light blades and light walls. They had to get Clover out, she wouldn't let Rosemary lose her last daughter!

"You're nowhere near your prime, Estelle." Manfred said with a taunt as Victoire very rudimentarily patched up Clover's wounds, holding her still with vines as thick as tree trunks. "That's fine." Estelle hissed, clinging to her now broken arm as a result of one of Manfred's flaming whip strikes. "I don't need to be at my prime to win." In this ruined city that was once civilization, where now miasma and monsters ruled to exist as the harbingers of destruction, where empty buildings and flattened streets now acted as tombstones for what was no doubt the remainders of humanity, Estelle knew she had no choice but to rely on that special trick all mages could do. "Fearsome, get them to safety. I'm going to end this!" With all her pain, all her black lines growing, she rushed forth, mana concentrating on a single point. Erika locked eyes with her, suddenly somehow some form of conscious. It almost made Estelle's heart stop.

But she pressed on. "I'm going to be a hero." Estelle whispered as she grabbed Manfred, light radiating out from her fingers with a monstrous dazzling force. Manfred let out a yell and kicked her away, knowing what this was. They all knew, but it was too late now. The charge was primed, ready to fire. "I'm going to finally be a good big sister." She was slammed into Victoire, who dropped Clover, a black shadow snatching her from the air at the last second as the blinding flash of light appeared. When it all ended, there was no trace at all of either Victoire or Estelle. They had been reduced to ash by the mana explosion. A crystal of memories remained and a black shadow picked it up.

"No!" Manfred let out a sudden cry, eyes wide at the scene. This wasn't how it was supposed to be. This was wrong, it was all wrong. He and Victoire were supposed to have saved the future of mages together, as a team! She wasn't supposed to die like this! She wasn't supposed to disappear and leave him behind! She was all he had, and now she was gone. "I'm sorry, my love." He growled, grabbing both Erika and Clover in his grip. Maple chased towards them, empowered by Fearsome's rune but flames covered the field. It would take more luck than Maple and Fearsome had to escape the sea of flames fast enough to survive. Manfred tugged on the machine's levers and then a shadow sucked them in, transporting them elsewhere... back to a base where Victoire would no longer be.

Clover wasn't sure how much time had passed when her eyes next opened. She coughed weakly, dried blood still staining her chin. The kitten craned her neck, looking around the dimly lit space in order to assess her surroundings. She was strapped to a table, her wrists and ankles pinned down as though she were a frog in a middle school dissection lab. Her mana stone was broken, making Clover just a regular old cat again. There was something stuck in her arm, a blood transfusion to replace the lost platelets and plasma. The hole in her chest was packed with gauze and had a tube coming out of it, a rudimentary job done to heal the exterior by Victoire, but the inside had still been damaged, a main artery having been sliced open by the sword. Clover shivered, freezing her tail off on the table, her clothing gone. What plans did Manfred have? What was he going to do with her?

Something beeped, a burning sensation filling her arm. The kitten screamed, thrashing as the pain grew worse, making it feel as though she had been doused in fire. When it at last ended, she panted hard, the drainage tube filling with blood. Things went on this way for hours, a sudden burst of pain in her body, Clover clawing at the table until it stopped, left breathless and even weaker than before. Her stomach growled painfully, her throat was parched and her voice hoarse from screaming. "Is anyone here?" Clover called into the empty space, her tail waggling nervously. She swallowed hard, her voice echoing off of the walls. "Hello?" Nothing, it seemed that the kitten was alone in this strange space. Eventually, she drifted off to sleep, her tail going limp from the pain.

When Clover next awoke, there was an orb floating over her, just a small light that danced before her. Was it distortion magic? A sign? Or perhaps just a delusion from the hunger? She could hardly lift her fingers, another needle in her other arm now, this one running clear fluids so that she didn't become dehydrated. "What is ball?" Clover asked, the ball dancing. "Name is Clover, what is yours?" The ball didn't answer, instead, it flew in a circle around the room, momentarily lighting up the walls. There were pictures on them, or perhaps Clover had imagined it? She blinked, feeling sleepy once more. "Does ball know why Manfred didn't kill Clover?" The kitten asked, knowing he could have very well ended her life. Instead, he had chosen take her back to his base, but for what reason, Clover didn't know. She had no magic, she couldn't even absorb and store mana anymore. Aside from her knowledge in alchemy and herbology, Clover had no uses.

Unless he planned to cut her up and use her body for parts? Clover shuddered at the thought. No doubt an anima had plenty of magical uses, like how they used to slaughter mages, believing that their blood could cure all sorts of ailments.

❝Across the sea, will we finally find freedom?❞

When Erika slit her throat, she didn't die. It was very close, though, and she was taken away. Khryia, too, was forced to vanish and thus Clover had been left alone. Erika had tried her best, of course, but in the end she was empty. She got to meet Umbral, Lord of the Underdark. That man was cruel, he was vicious, and his plan was to use both her and the recovered Fearsome as experiments. "What kind of monsters can we make if we fused high mana mages with miasma?" Umbral asked as he strapped them to the machines. Both Fearsome and Nightbloom were poisoned for months and months as the miasma flowed through. She was even forcibly implanted with child in a vicious act of domination and violation. She glared mouthlessly at him, knowing she couldn't resist because if she did Khryia would suffer.

"I want to see what'll happen." Umbral said, one eye gleaming with scientific joy. "What kind of powerful mage can be born with both mana and miasma?" It kept on getting worse, the miasma poisoning and transforming them even more as the days went on. "Stay strong, Nightbloom." Fearsome muttered whenever they got the chance to speak. "Every villain eventually falls, all we have to do is wait for the chance." He was once an enemy but now he was here, he was trying to fight. But could she really fight with Khryia as a hostage? "Ragdoll's alive. We have to stay strong. Don't lose hope." She tried her best, but it was so hard to keep hoping as the experiments kept on coming. Her senses changed, she grew dark lines spreading from her womb reaching the rest of her body. Every moment was pain but there was still no relief. "I'm sorry, Master." Khryia whimpered, crying as she was dissected again for familiar research. "I'm sorry I can't save you."

When the fight broke out and once again the Underdark was attacked, Manfred had taken the now very pregnant Erika. "Don't summon the dragon." Manfred commanded her with a grin. "You don't want to know what we'll do to her if you do." She nodded faintly, too nauseous and gross to do much else. Victoria tried touching her as usual to get a rise but that didn't work. The shadow mage had all but given up now, nothing but a pile of sadness and a belly that continued to swell. "You should try to cheer up." Victoire told her, licking her cheek. "It's not good for the baby." They eventually made up a machine and using it they could control her powers for themselves. The plan? Watch Estelle team break the barrier, and then take them out and use the miasma to bring mages back to glory, to show humans the meaning of fear.

Estelle died before her very eyes but Erika was able to understand her final moments. Earning the will to move, the shadow mage pulled Clover to safety and secured the crystal of memories before it was too late. She had it stored within her now, all of Clover's memories playing through her head. The betrayal, the abandonment, the loneliness, the misery, all of it was there. She was unforgivable, of course. Back at the base, Erika was put back into her room, feeling dull and exhausted all over again. How long until the baby was gone? How long until this filthy parasite was out of her for good? "Khryia." She whispered, summoning the dragon to her who had a pizza in her hand in surprise. "Master? What took you so long? I was waiting at the Spider's Nest this whole time!"

Erika had a single order. She knew it was too late for her, the miasma was too strong. But Clover still had a chance, didn't she? "Save Clover." She managed before she passed out all over again.

Erika was asleep again, her body seeming awfully weak these days. It was easy for Manfred to sneak in and take the memory orb without waking her up. He had done plenty of research and now, he was going to hurt them the way they had hurt him. Attacking him was one thing, but killing Victoire? That was crossing an unforgivable line. Estelle too, was dead, but he could still get back at them, he could still create a tool he had needed. Clover was being kept in a separate room, strapped down of course so that she couldn't injure herself or anyone else. Manfred entered the space, turning the light on. The kitten blinked, recoiling, having grown used to the dark of the room. "Let Clover go!" She rebelled instantly, pulling at the binds. Manfred walked over, holding the orb out. "Your sister's been lying to you Clover," he said softly, stroking her sweat addled hair off of her forehead.

"Don't touch!" She hissed, recoiling from his touch, but the seed of doubt had been planted. "She said you lost your memories, but she took them. I have them right here," he let her fingers touch the orb gently. "Do you want them back?" Clover nodded, wondering if this was some sort of trick. "Here you go," he pushed it against her head, the reaction instant. The orb broke, Clover's memories returning. She jerked, the anxiety, fear, doubt, and pain all rushing into her at once. Clover felt as though she were choking, the chest pain instant. "That's right, despair," Manfred said, lifting up a thin wire. He shoved it up Clover's nose, threading it down into her lungs. "Stop!" Clover cried, tearing up. "Here, drink this," he tipped a blue bottle into her mouth, the kitten choking. She felt dizzy and sleepy, wanting to escape this awful pain.

"Erika, where is Erika?" Clover managed to ask. "That's none of your concern," another needle, this one stuck right into her chest. "You see, most mages can't tolerate miasma, it hurts their mana nodes. You, however, have no mana nodes, but, as an anima, your body is naturally more attuned to magic. What if we replaced mana nodes with miasma? What would become of you, a normal, useless, cat?" Clover shook her head, wanting it to stop. "You can't die yet, but you need to feel your own pain, miasma feeds off of negative feelings. So stir, wallow, and perhaps then you'll be able to truly Blossom." Manfred took his leave, closing and locking the door with a magical seal. Clover felt as though she were dying, her chest constricting painfully.

It went on for days. Every time the kitten drifted off, she awoke to a new batch of anxiety. Occasionally, Manfred came to administer the sedation to ensure her heart did not go into failure. She wasn't allowed to die, but one could not consider this living either. The miasma did not have the same effect on her body as it did a mage's. Clover's features did not distort, there were no strange growths crawling along her either, Manfred checked to ensure that no dark tumors clung to her pale skin. Clove cried through most of it, begging for the pain to end, but he did not listen. "You will be beautiful," he soothed, stroking her pale fluffy hair. "Victoire won't be alive to see our work come to fruition, but it will work." He upped the amount of miasma and left for another two days.

When he returned once more, Clover felt numb. Her chest had stopped hurting, but she stared blankly up at the ceiling, dried blood leaving tear streaks on her cheeks. There was something strange, something wrong. "Another failure," Manfred sighed, he should have anticipated that this would not work. "It seems that you really were just a normal, worthless cat." He lifted up a sheet to cover her, believing the kitten to be dead when he noticed something odd. The mana stone in her chest that had been broken to smithereens had somehow been restored. It was no longer blue, but a deep, ominous black. Manfred grinned, stroking her hair. "Just a little longer my pet, you will prevail."

The days crawled on by, Erika feeling too numb really to be able to do much else. Khryia was hidden in her shadow and that was draining her to the point that she couldn't protect Clover's Memory Crystal from being taken from her by Manfred himself. "Here's your daily of Miasma." He said with a sickening grin. "I hope you enjoy, and the baby too." She grimaced, frowning at the man who had captured her, the man who had lost the love of his life. "I'll kill him! Just tell me when and I'll kill him!" Her dragon stewed from inside her shadow, waiting for the perfect opportunity. Not yet, Erika thought back to her familiar. They needed to find where Clover was being kept first. "I hope... you don't think I actually want the child."

His smile widened when he heard that, of course. He drew near, patting her swollen belly, receiving a kick in return. "Oh? In that case, maybe I'll make good use of the brat, then." Of course he wanted it, was he really going to pretend he only wanted it now? "In exchange for Clover's freedom, you can raise the kid however you want... okay?" He laughed, slapping her stomach, causing pain to echo through her body in waves. "Sorry, Erika, but you're in no position to making deals. If I want to experiment on a child of miasma, I'll do it regardless of what you want." That didn't bother her. Hopefully though she'd be able to kill it before it got to that point. Maybe she could get Khryia to cut the baby out of her and break it's neck so that it wouldn't have to live as Manfred's weapon. It would be a mercy.

As the time crawled by, suddenly Manfred seemed to have a new plan of action. "Come, let's go for a walk. If you can still walk, that is." Erika felt sick and queasy, not only because the baby growing inside of her was sapping all of her energy, but also because whatever energy was left was being taken by the cost of hiding Khryia inside her shadow. "Hurts." She mumbled pathetically as Manfred guided her to another room, helping her walk after undoing the bonds holding her down. "You'll be fine." Manred told her, bringing her into Clover's room. "I brought you a new friend, Clover. She's almost to term now." The dark lines growing all over her body, the black crystal-like material forming in her nails, she looked rather grotesque, nothing like the elegant and pretty Erika from the past.

"Aren't you happy? You finally get to see the one you love so much, kitty!" What was happening to Clover? Why was she strapped in like this? Miasma experiments? Her thoughts were racing but it was hard to breathe. "Just tell me when! Then I'll do it and take us away from here, Master!" Khryia growled, tail thumping in the darkness of her shadow. Erika knew she didn't have much time to live, she could feel it with every breath. Tick tock, time was running out. But at least she could save Clover, couldn't she? Manfred was trying to make the cat despair more and more. He pushed Erika down onto the ground, her swollen stomach landing hard as she did, pain reverberating through her whole small form.

"She's about to die." Manfred taunted, his jeers echoing in this tiny little room. He clamped down on the shadow mage's limbs so that once again she was unable to move, unable to do anything but wait for labor. She could feel it deep inside, the first contraction had begun. "The baby's starting to come, and it'll kill her to deliver it." The contractions would increase in pace and intensity, this was only the first step. Likely she wasn't going to get any rest from now on. Not yet, Erika told her dragon in desperation. Likely she would die upon activating Khryia... and she wanted some last word with Clover before the end. As Manfred left them and locked the door, Erika gave Clover a weak smile.

So much had gone wrong ever since that horrible day when Aries tricked Clover and threw a wrench in everything. "I'm almost gone... Clover." Another contraction, still painful but not at the peak yet. Labor was beginning. "But it's okay. I love you, and you'll be safe. Help is coming." She felt it, the tears were coming. What a shame, Erika had wanted to remain her composure to the end. "Sorry, I'm so sorry I wasn't able to be a better Master to you. I wasn't... able to show you love and happiness that you deserve. But I... even so... I..." She whimpered, the pain starting to get worse. "Even after I'm gone, I'll love you." Her eyes shut, the miasma growing and worsening within her.

The door opened, Manfred coming with more miasma for Clover and for Erika when it happened. Exploding out from the shadow was a black dragon, fierce and roaring with might. Erika seemed to make her last breath, her body going limp as Khryia roared, tail swinging right for Manfred's neck.

There was something terribly wrong, Clover could tell, but she wasn't sure what. Her memories had returned, she should have been happy, but the only emotion that filled her was despair. With no mana nodes to attack, the miasma instead filled her bloodstream, attacking her cells, transforming the molecular structure of her entire body. Still, Manfred did not let up, he continued to pump it into the kitten, tormenting her to ensure that the miasma had something to cling to. Clover felt numb, the chest pain no longer prevalent so much as the agony that filled her entire being. She wanted to sleep, but nightmares plagued her dreams, she wanted to eat, but Manfred would not let her. With nothing to do, Clover spent the time riding out the hours by counting the cracks in the ceiling tile.

Today was different, she could tell. Today, the new mana stone shone an eery black, dark lines coming from it, thinning out and disappearing. Clover felt more anxious, the pain had returned, her tail curling so tightly up her leg that it left a bruise. The last person the kitten had expected to see was Erika and yet when the door swung open, there she was, looking fragile despite Clover's memories of her appearing so strong. Her swollen belly looked ready to burst and she was clearly weak. Clover was quiet, recalling their last interaction. The kitten had pleaded for help and Erika had slit her throat in response, whether it was out of desperation or fatigue for having to come to her pathetic cat's rescue, Clover wasn't sure. "Erika?" Clover asked quietly, the pain in her chest growing two fold.

Erika reached out, wanting to speak. She apologized for acting rashly, for not being able to show her the love and happiness she deserved. Clover smiled slowly, "Clover wanted to save Erika," tears filled her eyes, "but Clover didn't know how." When they had first met, Erika had saved her from becoming a doll and Clover, in exchange, had wanted to save a girl from her fate. She had failed and now, it seemed Clover might become a doll after all. Erika wasn't looking so great, she collapsed, the kitten struggling against her bonds to try and see what had happened. "Erika?" Clover asked, frantic. Manfred laughed, Khryia suddenly attacked, striking him. At ththe same time, the ceiling exploded, two very familiar faces peering at then from within. Karma and Valkyrie. "Huh, so they were alive after all." Karma grinned, her team of anti mages flooding the space. "What's wrong with Blue Lotus?" Valkyrie asked, kneeling beside her. "Pregnant!" Clover cried, wishing she could do something.

She screamed, pain filling her body, the black lines growing worse. "S-save Erika!" If she died, Khyria would disappear, if she died, Clover would be all alone. A fight had broken out, drag on versus mage. They surrounded Erika, Valkyrie tearing the machine off of her skin, a medic stepping forward to stabilize her. Someone else jumped into the hole, her black tail swishing angrily. "Clover!" Maple cried, having at last managed to pin point the tracking spell. "Maple!" Clover's eyes filled with tears again. "Maple, utility belt. Use Clover's medicine to help Erika!" The black haired twin nodded, grabbing the belt from the chair it had been sitting on and running it towards Erika. The kitten breathed a sigh of relief, hoping it would help. "CLOVER!" Manfred yelled, her bonds releasing, "attack!" She didn't know what happened after that, as the dark stone in her chest began to glow and she lost consciousness.

When Clover awoke, she was tied down to a table. Her arms and legs were both crossed and strapped down, a muzzle over her mouth. She struggled against the binds, blood staining her mouth and hands. Karma was standing in the corner, reading. "There isn't a lot of research on miasma that's been published." She snapped the book shut, stalking forward. The kitten recoiled as Karma placed a hand over Clover's heart. "You're suffering, your heart is breaking, quite literally. My researchers have never seen anything like it." Karma took out a key, unwrapping the muzzle. "Manfred is in our custody, but he won't tell anyone anything. Erika is stable for the time being, but I can't say she'll be performing magic tricks anymore." Clover's stomach clenched. "On his behest, you became a monster. Slaughtered six of my men, some of my finest too. Your sister, Maple, made a deal that if we saved you, she would submit herself for research." Karma grinned, "but I would much rather have you. With a subhuman with your abilities in our arsenal, no mage in the world stands a chance against us. Estelle showed us the way out, Fearsome is going to perform the ritual and from there, us humans will rise and create a magic free world. Your sacrifice will not go unnoticed." Clover struggled against the bindings, noticing the runes and talismans all around her. "Oh? Still got a hit of a kick in you? Don't worry, we'll train that right out. Be a good little kitty, won't you?"

"Push! Push, you can do it!" Seraphina beckoned her. AS one of Karma's most trusted Hunters, the Valkyrie was allowed to request that for the most part, she would be in charge of Erika. As long as they continued with the miasma experiments, she was allowed access to both of the new prisoners. Many people considered Karma and the Valkyrie to be like peas in a pod, meant to be at each other's side. Karma would save the world from the front, with the Valkyrie protecting her rear the entire time. The doctors were there of course, helping with the delivery. Oh how nice it would be for Karma to get to experiment on a baby born in miasma, the first of it's kind. "Rika, just keep pushing." Erika was panting, eyes watering. She was still only fifteen years old, was her birth canal really going to be big enough to get the baby out? Well, yes it was but she couldn't know that.

"Please..." She whimpered, the overwhelming pain making her feel as if she was being ripped in half from the bottom up. Why did it hurt so much? Why did everything hurt so much? "I want Clover! Want Clover here." At least Clover could give her comfort and help make things easier. "Shhh, Master. Stay calm! If Master wants, I will jump out and rip the baby out head first!" The dragon familiar was of course in hiding in her shadow once again, having escaped into there during the fight once the CCC had come to the... well, the recapture, really. Erika had no doubts that the end would come once the baby was safely in Karma's grasp. As one of the more powerful mages in terms of mana pool, of course Karma would put her to death via execution.

But no matter how hard she pushed, it wasn't working. Why wasn't it working? "Doctors, something's wrong. Are you sure the birth canal was wide enough?" Seraphina's voice rose to a fever pitch, no doubt she was worried. While their love was gone, they still cared for one another even now and the pinkette was going to help make the delivery as easy as possible. " The doctors shook their heads. "It's not that, Miss Valkyrie, it's her inverted hips, there's not enough space for the infant. We're going to give her a Cesarean section." They decided after another while of pushing and of Seraphina's increasingly agitated words. "You should leave, Valkyrie, we'll be putting her to sleep now." Erika felt bleary as the gas mask was put over her face, the scalpel ready to chop into her womb to cut the baby out. "Please, take care of her. She's a dear friend." Sera gave a bit of a wave of the fingers and Erika returned it before she faded out into the black void called sleep.

An indeterminate amount of time later Erika woke up. The baby was of course gone, no doubt Karma was going to turn her into a toy to play with and transform into the strongest of hunters. "Where is it?" She asked after she reoriented herself. Sera frowned, unhappy but knowing that she was powerless to do anything. "Karma took her. She wanted to know if you had a name, though." So it was a girl, a girl? "I don't want to name her. I never wanted one in the first place." Sera sighed then shrugged, knowing she wasn't going to be able to change Erika's mind. "Okay, well I'll just tell Karma her name is Astra. It means Star, just like Estelle did." So word had spread that the True Heroine had met her untimely end. It was such a bitter thing, Erika didn't even know how to feel about it. She just wished she could have had some last words with her sister before the end.

"So any last words, Rika?" Sera asked, leaning as casually as she could against the cell's walls. Erika sighed, trying to ignore the pain of the stitches putting her stomach back together. She was also only given the bare minimum of pain medicine for the incision. Her whole body was in agony. "We both know Karma can't wait to execute you." Erika looked away, knowing there was only one thing. "Use your influence and get Clover out, no matter what it takes." The best time to do so would be during Erika's execution, since Karma would be busy delivering the final blow to focus on Clover. The Valkyrie, as a very trusted Hunter, would have easy access to the white kitten.

"I'm sorry," Maple sobbed into her hands when she saw the state her sister was in. "I didn't mean for this to happen. I wanted them to let you go!" Maple was allowed an hour to see Clover, the two sisters unable to snuggle but Maple was at least allowed to come close. "Maple," Clover said softly, ignoring the growing pain in her chest . Karma continued to pump Clover full of miasma, continuing the experiment that Manfred has begun. "I knew you were going to say that." Maple sniffed, wiping her eyes. "That's why I already started forming a plan." Clover smiled, relieved that Maple was on the case. It was around that time that a guard arrived, extracting Maple before she could tell her sister anything more.

Clover didn't mind, she knew that if Maple was doing it, then Erika would be alright. With a relieved sigh, Clover sunk against the table, not resisting when someone arrived to feed her. "Medicine first," Clover opened her mouth, the brew leaving a chalky taste in her tongue. She took small bites, but her stomach was barely able to hold little more than soup. With the medicine, the world seemed to fade, the kitten staring blankly at the wall until Karma arrived, holding a baby in her arms. Clover blinked a few times, attempting to clear her mind. "That is Erika's baby?" Clover asked, staring at the infant. " Yes, another creation of miasma. " Karma handed the child off and released the bindings.

Slowly, the kitten sat up, running her hands over her sore wrists. "A little bird told me that the best way to get you to submit is like this," a hand touched her thigh, slowly crawling upwards. Clover stiffened, the pain returning full force. "No," she whimpered as Karma grabbed her hair, pulling her head back. "Clover doesn't want," the kitten shook. "It doesn't matter whAt Clover wants," Karma hissed in her ear. "As your new Master, you will submit to my will." She leaned down, biting Clover's ear, the skin on her neck, and making her expose her belly to prove that she would submit.

"Good girl," Karma soothed , stroking her tail. "Clover, attack." It was the same reaction as before , her eyes turned black and her back arching in response. "Good girl," Karma purred once agaim, grinning at her victory.

❝Across the sea, will we finally find freedom?❞

|| Need you Now || Lady Antebellum ||

The stage was set. The whole city was watching on the live cast now as Erika was strung up by her arms, by her legs, chains all around her body to make sure she couldn't try anything. Not that she could, it had only been a day since the pregnancy and the C-Section, of course she wasn't able to really do much. It hurt, but not as bad as knowing she would never be able to free Clover from this place. Before her stood Karma and Seraphina and Erika could only pray that her ex-girlfriend would have a trick up her sleeve to be able to get Clover to safety. Khryia was already transferred to Sera's ownership, they had done this last night in preparation just like how Theodore had once given Cookie to Julian as a gift.

"The Blue Lotus is one of the worst criminals of our times." Karma spoke with a smile, her techsword firmly in her grip, ready to deliver the finishing blow. "She was very strong and killed many of our honorable men and women who merely wanted to protect humanity from the evils of mages. But at last, we have captured her and we are ready to deliver justice." Sera sighed audibly, turning away. "Sorry, Karma. I don't have the stomach for this, so I'm going to go." Karma nodded as the Valkyrie made her exit, no doubt headed over to Clover this very second, Khryia waiting for her new Master's will to summon her to act and rescue the white cat. "It's alright, Valkyrie. Go rest, I'll finish the job." And with that it was now just Karma and Erika here, with the cameras on to broadcast this to all those who wanted to watch.

The leader of the CCC gave a big wide smile. "Well, I'm not a barbarian you know. Do you have any last words? Everyone deserves a chance to speak their mind." What would her last words be? It wasn't as if there was anything she wanted to say. For all intents and purposes her last wishes to Clover have already been said, apologies and love were made to the white kitten. There wasn't really anything else, so she remained silent, waiting for the end. No one was going to rescue her, but it was okay. Already by now no doubt Clover was being saved by Seraphina. "Or do you want to know about your child, Astra? Don't worry." Karma's smile was incredibly predatory. "We will make sure she has a good home and will be raised right. Unless of course, she is a mage like you." No doubt Astra inherited the magic in both her and Umbral and had even more potential. But she was a child of miasma, so what would be done?

Well, not that Erika really cared. She didn't want a kid in the first place, she was just glad to have it gone now. She would never get to bond with it, to see it, to look at it so as far as she knew, she didn't have a child in the first place. "No last words? Is that really how you want to die?" Erika gave a faint smile and sighed. "Just end it already. I'm tired of this." Ever since she sent Clover away her life had become an unendurable hell. But now she could finally be free, knowing that Clover was on her way to be saved thanks to the tag-team of Seraphina and Khryia. Karma nodded, swinging her sword for the finishing blow. Erika closed her eyes, at peace.

Clover spent most of her time sleeping. The medication for her heart combined with the medication for the pain made her dizzy. There were two tubes in her nose now, one in each nostril. One was for miasma to be delivered into her body, the other for food, water, and the medicine to prevent her heart from failing, a brew they came up with after stealing Clover's herbology book. She was no longer strapped down, but allowed to walk around, not that she had the energy to do so. She was, at the very least, provided with books to read in her spare time, having learned to read from Maple.

"They're going to execute Erika today," Maple said softly as she pet Clover's hair. Clover lay on her side, her head on Maple's lap. "Maple, please save Erika," Clover begged for the umpteenth time. Maple nodded, she had promised. Fearsome too, was going to be executed once he had performed the ritual to rid the world of miasma. Maple was only being spared because of her usefulness as an anima. "Clover made something," she reached under the bed, handing it to her sister. "Please give to Erika once safe." Maple nodded, tucking it into her pocket. Clover had ripped out the letters from books and pasted them onto a page.

"Time to go," a guard said, knocking on the bars. Maple nodded, rising from her seat. Clover whimpered, wishing she could stay longer. "I'll be back," Maple promise with a smile, but Clover knew it was a lie. Maple would be escaping today with Erika, Clover would probably never see them again. She watched sleepily as Maple left, two guards entering to haul the kitten up and strap her down. "You're needed at the lab," Clover nodded, not resisting an she was rolled out.

Maple stood in the wings of the stadium where Erika was to be executed. She had to time this right if she wanted to save her. The black haired cacat clutched the closed bottles in her pocket, Fearsome standing behind her. His familiar grinned from the shadows, a creature summoned from the depths of hell. "Ready?" Fearsome asked, squeezing her shoulder. Maple nodded grimly, knowing that if this failed, they would all be dead. She handed a bottle to Fearsome and one to the creature, his horns glinting in the light. "Let's do this," they set off to different points in the stadium, Maple breaking into the broadcast room. "Sorry about this!" She squeaked, conjuring up a frying pan and whacking them over the head. Maple pulled the wires out, stopping the live feed.

In the meantime, Fearsome blocked off the entrances, closing and locking the gates. The creature knocked out the guards, leaving just Karma and Erika. The moment she drew her sword, the three of them used their potions, causing explosions that rocked the stadium, shaking the ground. In the confusion and mess, Fearsome slices the bonds off of Erikax his familiar catching her. He opened up his bag, sealing Erika inside. It was a magical tool, a bag cast with magic to contain vast amounts of equipment and tools. "Let's go!" Fearsome yelled, grabbing Maple by the waist. He reached upwards, what appeared to be a large winged bird grasping a claw around his fist and lifting them up, taking them out of the stadium and soaring towards the clouds, disappearing within the white cape.

------

Clover tried to resist as Karma's researchers drew her blood. She screamed and cried, unable to do much due to the fact that she was strapped down. They had come up with a device to try and control the monster within her. It went around her neck, another two going around her wrists and ankles. They were thin and clung flush against the skin. The band inside of it glowed a soft blue, but would change depending on the command. The kitten was not too happy as they released her into an enclosed glass room to test it out.

Clover fell to her knees once released, rubbing her sore arm where they drew her blood. "Clover, stand!" The band turned orange, aware that the kitten had been given a command. It turned red when she didn't move, administering a light zap. Not enough to injure, but of high enough voltage that Clover jumped.

Seraphina was waiting for that moment of course. "Who are these people, Valkyrie?" She grinned, winking at the security guard. "Prisoners, of course. They're behind the bombing of the execution room." Behind her, trapped in handcuffs, were both Alistair and Theodore. This plan was made by Mallier and Eamon - wait for Maple to make her move, and then get Clover out as well. It was thanks to Spiderweb's information that she was able to realize who it was that saved her. Ghost and Clover were one and the same, the cat didn't actually end up dying thanks to her poison. "Let's get you guys locked up. How dare you mages think you have the right to exist in this world!" She kicked Theo in the face and then continued dragging them, both boys only putting up a token resistance.

Of course she wasn't going to kick her brother in the face after all. "Your shadow isn't as good as Erika's, Master." Khryia added with a sad face. Seraphina shrugged - she was still learning. In the end no matter what she did she wasn't able to get Khryia into her shadow, so Erika did it for them. Shadow magic probably wasn't going to be her specialty. Perhaps it would be creation magic like the rest of her family? In any case, the four of them went up the elevator to the containment floor. Her beeper buzzed, a voice coming through. Central was contacting her. "Valkyrie! Go and save Karma, she's in trouble!" She nodded, grabbing it and speaking into it. "Understood. Once I'm done transporting these prisoners I'll be on my way." And then they arrived where researchers were working on Clover. "Karma wants these guys infected with miasma too." Sera told the researchers with a smile. And that was when they attacked, the entire room spinning, the doors erasing as if they never existed. Clover's senses were sealed, including pain, and then Alistair went into action, two magic swords appearing at his shoulders, swinging violently enough to cleave one of the scientists's heads off then and there, bits of his spine flying around the place.

From her shadow something exploded and slammed into her, knocking the Valkyrie out before she could do anything. "Good job, Khryia." Alistair panted, the anti-magic cuffs on both of their wrists having been very elaborate and nearly perfect fakes made by Eamon himself. "Let's get them out of here." Theodore picked Clover up, the dragon transformed and smashed her tail at the window. "No time to waste." Khryia growled, the entire building toppling because it wasn't big enough to support her weight this high up. They all climbed on, Hunters flying after them in pursuit. "Wait, don't forget the notes!" Alistair created a long hand and grabbed the research notes so that Mallier could examine them in order to better treat Clover. They needed to know what was done to her, after all.

Far in the distance they could see the faint shadow of three figures flying in the sky, propelled by a large bird. The dragon jumped from the top floor, bracing her limbs for a very explosive crash down on the pavement of Min City. A crater was left behind as the dragon bounded through the streets, lashing her tail at everything. Alistair had Sera safe in his grip, Theodore made sure to keep Clover cradled in his arms. "Now go!" Khryia flung her tail, sending her passengers flying through the air. She went to go hide in a corner to slowly transform back into her human shape, Alistair making a magic carpet and catching everyone as well. "Next time we meet, we'll take Karma's head." Alistair said as he stared at the crumpled mess of a building behind them. "Hopefully this'll repay our dept, Clover." They were safe. At least for now, the could all be together again.

The beast had been drawn out, Clover paced within the containment unit, growling and hissing, her eyes red and feral. "Wow, does Karma really think she can control that?" One of the researchers asked as he pushed a dial up on his board, using the frequency to send the message of attack. Clover rammed against the glass like a feral beast, leaving claw Mark's on the surface. "Watch this," a panel opened, a rat let in. Clover pounced, tearing at the animal with an infernal roar. "She doesn't eat it, doesn't even try. It's like the miasma is just telling her to destroy." He turned the dial down, the cat going back to pacing, blood staining her hands and mouth.

It was around that time that the doors swung open, Valkyrie coming in with two new subjects. There was question in their eyes, they hadn't received any orders from Karma, but if Valkyrie claimed it tto be true then who were they to question it? It was around then that Clover collapsed, her senses sealed. "What's wrong with her?" He looked at his stats to check that the cat hadn't suddenly died when the room broke out into chaos. The kitten blinked, having returned to herself. She shook as she realized that she couldn't see or hear anything, her sense of smell wasn't working either. Something was touching her, someone had grabbed her. What was going on? Suddenly, Clover could feel the wind in her hair, whipping through her white fur. She had no idea what was happening, only that she was being moved. Was she... flying? Or perhaps falling? The kitten didn't struggle, afraid of what might happen if she did.

Slowly her senses returned. Clover blinked, her vision clearing up. She was no longer flying or falling, but laying in bed, her body washed, wearing plush pajamas, the tape on her face changed. The miasma levels within her were dangerous, it was at the point where other mages could not go near her. The door was locked, the only ones allowed in being none mages. Clover rose from the bed, her legs shaking. She tugged at the tubes in her nose, peeling the tape off and gagging as she attempted to pull them out. The kitten went towards the window, opening it up to reveal a hallway. "Hello?" Clover knocked on it, having already tried the door. "Clover!" Maple ran forward, pressing her hand against the window. "You're awake!" Clover nodded, wondering what was happening, why she was locked up.

"Why is Clover stuck in here?" She asked, her heart rate picking up in panic. "No, no, no, don't panic! You're locked in because the miasma is dangerous to everyone else." The kitten sunk to her knees, she was finally free, but not. "You kept waking up in a fit, so the others are a little afraid." Clover nodded, realizing that it must have been that thing Karma had called the beast within her. "Clover doesn't feel good." She leaned her head against the glass, wondering how long she would be stuck in here. "The miasma is naturally drawn towards you now," Maple whispered. "It's not good Clover, Manfred did a lot of research and we have the notes, but no one knows how to fix you." Clover nodded, swallowing hard. "Maple," the kitten looked up. "Karma said, Clover's heart is breaking. What does it mean? Is Clover dying?" Maple looked away.

"The miasma is wreaking havoc to your insides, it's breaking everything and bonding it with more miasma. Not even Rosemary can fix it." They weren't even in the Spider's nest. It was a separate compound to keep the miasma from poisoning the others. "Clover is dying then?" She whispered. Maple hesitated, then nodded. "No, but it isn't going to be pleasant." Maple smiled sadly, wishing she could hug her. Clover wouldn't be aware of it for much longer though, as the miasma progressed, Clover would continue to lose her humanity. She would be reduced to a beast without the ability to think for herself.

❝Across the sea, will we finally find freedom?❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#007F03 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #B20070

|| Need you Now || Lady Antebellum ||

Erika was having a seizure. "Master! Master, oh no, Master!" Khryia whimpered, not sure what to do. Khryia was the only one allowed in with her because - after the ceremony was done to revert ownership of the dragon back to Erika - she was the only one immune to the miasma exuding from Erika's body. It was taking her over, not like how it was for Clover, but it was eating her alive. The major difference was that while Clover's miasma could spread just by being close, Erika's was a danger only to those she physically touched. Well, at least anyone without mana could be allowed in to see Clover. "Master needs help!" Khryia banged on the door, not sure what to do. While both of the girls were finally saved... in a way, they were still very much at risk. What kind of life was this, to have the black energy running through their veins? The dragon was in tears.

Rosemary had come to examine her once again, trying to find out what was going wrong. Erika was thrashing and so Khryia was ordered to hold her down as best as she could. Luckily the dragon was quite physically strong so she could pin her limbs and stop her head from hitting anything in this somewhat fancy room in a protected corner of the Spider's Nest. "Here, this should help." Erika was in no state for anything for the time being, she needed to recover from both the pregnancy and the effects of the miasma poisoning. It was like what had happened to Estelle - and Rosemary had to stay strong. She gained Estelle back, only to lose her again. Maybe a better mother could have saved her, but that better mother was not her. But she was determined not to lose any of her remaining three children, even if it cost her life.

"So according to my information, there's this ritual." Mallier spoke to the round table of mages. Eamon was tending to Erika at the moment, and Cookie was playing with Clover but otherwise, everyone was gathered. "We can cleanse the land of the miasma and fix the mistake the mages of the old had made." She drew the points on the map of the known land beyond what was once their Barrier, the place that was keeping them safe from the miasma until Estelle shattered it. "We'll need five strong mages for five elements. Erika will be the shadow mage, Rosemary is our healing mage, and Alistair can handle the creation magic." She pursed her lips because the next two were a bit more spotty. "Seraphina, you're going to have to learn Earth magic. Maple's the closest we have to light, but both of them are going to need more training to qualify." Everyone else, meaning Mallier, Fiyero, Khryia, and Theodore would be remaining at the Tower for defense. In an emergency, they would give up their lives to make sure Clover got out safely, preferably on Khryia's back.

So they would probably have to set out after three days. Three days to let Erika recover and regain some of her strength, three days for Maple to do hard drills to practice the light magic Estelle had left behind for her, three days for Seraphina to tap into her heart and learn the magic her mother, Victoire, might just have for her to inherit. And it was during one of those three days that Mallier set up the mental screens for Erika and Clover to finally speak. "Did you hear?" Erika asked as she studied her magic books on shadow magic to learn more tricks, despite already being the strongest shadow mage in the world now. "They know how to cure us. The miasma will be gone once we do the ritual." Her eyes narrowed and she yawned tiredly, hiding in the corner of her room like a scared rat. "I ordered Khryia to protect you with her life. Please get along with her while we're gone, okay?" Her voice lowered and she thought... but knew that she had to say it.

"Seraphina will be one of the mages going on the journey. Is that okay? You know that we're not getting back together, right?"

❝They say that cats are angels with whiskers.❞

|| Be Brave || Owl City ||

Clover was scared to say the least. She was afraid of what she might become, afraid of losing her humanity. After Maple left, she sat in bed, hugging her knees, wondering how soon it would be before she lost all sense of herself and became a mindless monster. Maple had said there was no way to fix it, at least, not that she knew of. A knock came from the door, Cookie and Julian had come to visit. "Come in!" Clover called, sitting upright. Julian toted a food tray, dressed up like Julia, looking as happy as a clam. "Clover is confused, why are Cookie and Julian not hiding?" She asked, wondering why they were at the spider's nest. "Well, you disappeared, so we got kicked out." Cookie said, scratching his fur. He sat down on the edge of the bed as Julian placed the tray down. "But we're with Theo now, so it's okay," he grinned, giving Clover a thumb's up.

Clover smiled, glad to have company. She looked at the steaming tray of food, her stomach growling. The kitten dug in, a hearty bowl of stew being just what she needed. "Slow down there, er, never mind, who knows how long it's been since you had a decent meal." She lay back against the bed, patting her stomach. "Clover is full," the kitten sighed. "That was fast!" Julian snickered, removing the tray. "Don't tell anyone, but I think your new mana stone is kind of cool." Julian tapped it lightly, the stone glinting ominously in the light of the room. "Clover does not like it," she replied with a frown. "Clover does not want anymore miasma," Cookie nodded in understanding, patting her hair. He had been the one to bathe her while she was asleep of course, the others not trusting Fiyero to do it without getting a squeeze or two in.

"Clover wants a house," she said suddenly, "with trees and sunlight and lots of space to run around," Cookie nodded, his smile sad. "You'll get it one day," he said, although he was uncertain. If Clover turned into another miasma monster, they would put her down. "A house with picture windows and all of the pudding you can eat." Clover crinkled her nose, she could tell he was lying. She would be locked in this room until she lost herself and then, well, who knows what would happen. "Cookie," the kitten sat up, her tail no longer swishing, she was serious. "Please kill Clover if becomes monster," Cookie took her hands in his own, nodding. "Stop being so serious!" Julian lectured, taking out a ball of yarn, one of Clover's favorite games. She bat at it as Julian swung it around, chasing after the yarn in order to play. Julian laughed, his happy smile suddenly turning into a pained cry of surprise.

"Clover, no!" Cookie yelled, pulling her off of him. The cat growled, her eyes no longer a sparkling blue, but a menacing red. "No, bad!" Cookie shielded Julian, the cat pacing around the space, the smell of blood filling her noses, making her see red. More, she wanted more. "Julian, run. I'll stop her," the human nodded, bolting for the exit. Cookie stood in Clover's way, the cat pouncing, swiping at his face, running her claws across his chest. It only stopped when Julian summoned his familiar, the two of them narrowly escaping, shutting and sealing Clover in once more. She paced, hissing and spitting angrily.

Fiyero arrived after that, holding the bottles of medicine for Clover's heart and to stop the pain. Clover had been waiting, biding her time and as soon as the door opened, she pounced, but Fiyero was fast. He conjured up ropes, tying her down. "Snap out of it!" He shouted, slapping her so hard she saw stars. She blinked slowly, clearing her vision, red eyes returning to blue. Clover groaned, her cheeks turning red when she realized she was tied up. "No," she whimpered, "no, don't touch Clover!" She panicked, Fiyero kneeling down to untie her as she cried. "Don't worry," he reassured her, carrying the shaking kitty to her bed, "I was just protecting you." He placed her down, handing Clover the two bottles of medicine. "No," she shook her head, white ears no longer perking up. "Clover should die," she whispered, "Clover hurt Julian." Fiyero pinched her cheeks, shaking his head. "No, the monster hurt Julian, you didn't. Now take it, or else I'll make Rosemary put it in enema form and then you really won't like me."

Hesitantly, Clover swallowed the brews, growing dizzy within seconds. She slumped against the bed, glass falling from her hands. Fiyero caught it, pulling the blanket up to her shoulders. "I'll come back with dinner," he promised, leaving Clover to rest. He locked the door behind him, careful to avoid the blood stains.

It was around then that the voices floated into her head. Clover looked around to see where they were coming from, noticing a crystal ball on the mantle next to her. Erika, it was Erika! Her heart fluttered nervously, she didn't want to be seen in this state, weak from miasma, unable to control herself. "Cure?" Clover wanted to cry with relief, Maple had told her they had no idea what to do, but it seemed that they had figured it out.

Clover wrinkled her nose, Khyria smelled, but it seemed that the kitten had no choice. "Clover will do best to get along," she mumbled grudgingly. This new tidbit of information was interesting, "Clover does not mind," she responded quietly. "Erika does not need permission for anything."

Time passed as the days went by. Seraphina went to visit Clover a few times through the crystal ball thanks to Mallier, grinning as she did so, earth magic being practiced at the same time. "Just so you know." She said as she whirled earth chunks around as she practiced. Not good enough, but they didn't have much time either. "Erika's yours, okay? Want me to tell you all the best spots on her body, or is that up to you?" She might sound snide but she was being entirely supportive here. Clover was her savior, the reason why she was alive now. "I trust you to make her happy, okay? We'll fix you, and then you two have to be happy." She grinned as her pink hair flowed behind her, looking almost beautiful as she did so.

Around the same time Seraphina was improving on her Earth magic, Maple was doing her best in learning Estelle's techniques too. She could even make a light dagger now. Not as strong as the light sword, but she could make five of them at a time to attack with. They were learning, but still, Erika was in bad shape by the time the days had run out and they had to make it to the ocean. "Stay safe, Master. I will protect Clover with my life! I'll kill myself if she gets hurt again!" The dragon said with zealous devotion, pounding on her chest. Erika, weak and limping, nodded, being helped by Rosemary. Eamon gave her a tender hug. "Stay safe, Berry. You have to make it back alive." His voice was quiet, desperate. He didn't want to lose her again. She nodded, her head already spinning. "I'll shadow us around... so it's faster." It was hard on her but the faster they did this, the better. Erika, Rosemary, Maple, Alsitair, and Seraphina would be the ritual party.

|| Be Brave || Owl City ||

The kitten was losing her humanity day by day, little by little. The miasma was eating away at her, making her more monster than Clover. One eye was now permanently red and the only people who dared to visit her were Fiyero and Khryia, who could hold her down when necessary. Still, she was connected to the others via the crystal ball and the hours where she was herself, Clove could freely speak with everyone, including Seraphina, who grinned at her as though the two were old friends. Clover shook her head, cheeks turning red. "N-no!" She shook her head, "Erika and Clover are not together," she whispered, her heart aching as she spoke the words. It was true, the two of them hadn't fully reconciled, despite Erika's confession. Maple still had Clover's note, she had yet to give it to Erika, although she intended to on the day they set out.

"Good luck Erika," Clover said through the crystal ball the night before they were due to leave. "Clover will be waiting," she lost consciousness soon after that, waking up when Fiyero came to give her, her medicine. How long would it take them to reach their different points? Clover didn't know. Time was ticking away, soon, the group would be setting off to rid the world of miasma. "Please, come back safe." The kitten begged, knowing that her pleas might fall on deaf ears. "Please bring Erika back home," if they failed, then Clover really would turn into a monster. Even now, she was fading, her left eye flickering. She waited underneath the covers for the door to open, Fiyero coming with breakfast. Clover bolted, growling in an attempt to pin him down. "No, bad Clover," he said, kicking her hard in the stomach. The cat flew backwards into the wall, the strike bringing her back to her senses.

She sunk downwards, sobbing in both fear and pain. "Clover does not want to be monster," she whispered in terror. "You won't be," Fiyero assured her, patting her head. He helped Clover back to her bed, making her get dressed and sorting out her troublesome hair that had gone from a beautiful snowy white to an ugly gray. "They're leaving right
now, they're going to stop it before it gets worse." Fiyero assured Clover with a smile, "and if they don't, then I'll kill you. Promise," Clover nodded, she would hold him to it. Khryia came soon after with a game for the three of them to pass the time, the kitten attempting to be polite and not mention Khryia's smell despite the fact that Clover detested it. When the game was over, they went to help Eamon prepare dinner, Khyria coming back to deliver the meal.

The next morning, no matter what Fiyero tried, he couldn't get Clover to come back to herself. "Wake up!" He slapped her across the face, the kitten growling in a feral manner. "If you don't come back, you don't get breakfast!" He tried instead, Clover attacking. He dodged, conjuring up a rope to hold her down. "Khyria!" Fiyero called, the dragon appearing as though she had been waiting just outside the door. "Help me tie Clover down! We can't let her hurt herself!" Clover thrashed, Khyria coming to help as the kitten squirmed, attempting to escape their grasp. It was while they were stringing her up that she returned, tears springing to her eyes. "Clover is sorry," she whimpered, knowing that she was losing herself completely. "Clover cannot resist anymore."

"It's okay, "Khyria pet her head, "they'll do the ritual soon and you'll be all fixed!"

❝Across the sea, will we finally find freedom?❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#007F03 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #B20070

|| Need you Now || Lady Antebellum ||

Between Erika's shadow hopping, Alistair's magic carpet, and Seraphina's rock chunk ride, they were making pretty steady progress, sleeping in shifts to make the trip faster so that they wouldn't have to take any breaks. Currently Alistair was at work, meaning Sera was asleep so she could get her next shift ready. Rosemary was somehow brewing tea in the midst of all of this movement and Maple was clinging closely to Rosemary so that she wouldn't fall. "So is it true that Estelle's dead now?" Alistair asked, looking at them as they neared the ocean's edge. "How did it go?" Erika frowned, not really wanting to remember that time. "She blew herself up to kill your mother. She tried to get your dad but wasn't quite able to." She lowered her head, dizzy from all the traveling.

"I kinda wish we could've had a reconciliation before the end." Alistair, one of her first enemies back when she and Clover were still trying to be heroes, gave her a tiny smile despite his grief. "Don't worry. I'm sure she was full of love for you in the end, Erika. Estelle might act tough, but she really was just a big softy." The girl who killed her father was a softy? It was hard to imagine. But the way she fought to save her from Manfred that day... it was difficult to really say one way or another. "Something must have been pushing her." Rosemary said softly as she thought about it. "The miasma poisoning was probably it. She wanted to break the barrier and see what was on the other side." Mother made a sad sort of laugh as she sipped her tea and offered a cuppa to Maple. "She always was the type to obsess over justice and truth, even as a little girl she was always asking all these questions."

They turned to Maple who made a noise as if she wanted to say something. They were flying over the ocean now, it would take about an hour, and after that Erika would go to sleep so that Sera could take over, allowing Alistair to take his break and get ready for sleep. "She was really nice to me." Maple said softly, eyes to the left as she reminisced on her old Master. "She was probably the best human to me ever since I was sold." The black kitten hadn't had much time to mourn yet but now her eyes were watering as she thought about the light mage who had protected her and babied her all this time. "I'm sure she was happy with you, Maple." Rosemary gave her a snuggle and Maple accepted the affection.

"We'll finish the job she started and fix the world." Alistair said with quiet determination as the ruined blackened land that was no doubt once society revealed itself through the mist of the sea. They were getting close now. Erika was already panting, head spinning, it would be a little while until the first point, the Light point where they would drop off Maple. Sera yawned, accepting Rosemary's tea to spice her up. "Go to sleep, Rika." She said gently, seeing the shadow mage swooning, eyes fluttering shot. "I'll take over now, then we'll take you to your spot, Maple." Already they could feel the miasma's effect on them, clinging to their mana nodes. "You're almost there." The crystal ball lit up, Mallier was speaking to them now as Erika fitfully rested. "Things are fine here. I have crystal balls all through the woods near the Spider's Nest, no one's coming close, and even if they try, we'll see them coming." Rosemary gave her a smile. "Good girl. Eamon really found quite the keeper, didn't he?" Then Mallier suddenly blushed, eyes wide. "Wha? I - uh, um..." The crystal ball shut off abruptly.

❝They say that cats are angels with whiskers.❞

"Clover, down!" Fiyero shouted, Khryia blocking the exit. "Bad, don't tear the pillows!" Clover growled, stalking slowly across the room, her leg chained to the edge of the bed. She leaped, the chain pulling taught, preventing her from attacking Fiyero. This morning it was much worse, as soon as they had arrived for breakfast and to get Clover to take her medicine, she had attacked, pinning Khyria down and scratching through her shirt. "Ooh, feisty, but no kisses, Master won't like that Clover." Khyria had giggled, her and Fiyero wrestling Clover back, managing to tie her leg to the end of the bed. Clover didn't like it, she had tried to bite and claw through it, but hadn't been able to yet.

"Maybe we can train her?" Khryia suggested, taking a piece of bacon off of the breakfast tray and holding it out. Clover lunged, trying to grasp it with her teeth. "No," Khyria scolded, taking the cup of water and using a little to splash at her. Clover hissed, turning in a circle and moving towards a bed. "See? We can train her! Just like a puppy!" Khyria said excitedly while Fiyero rolled her eyes. "Except puppies won't rip your throat out the first chance you get." He picked up another piece of bacon, coming close. Clover suddenly bolted, running towards him. The chain snapped, the kitten tripping. "No, bad!" Fiyero scolded, conjuring up a spray bottle. He sprayed Clover in the face, the cat hissing once more. "Hmm, maybe we can train her." He grinned, the bed post suddenly breaking. Clover lunged forward, tackling Fiyero to the ground.

"Clover, no, bad!" Khryia grabbed the spray bottle, splashing Clover to make her retreat. The cat turned back, darting underneath the bed in order to avoid getting her fur wet. "I think we need a stronger bed," Khyria suggested as Fiyero rose, looking at his torn robes. "Aww, Eamon made these for me," he frowned. Clover hissed in response, seemingly uncaring about the fact that she had just broken her bed. "Okay Clover, we're going to start training you from now on." Fiyero cracked his knuckles, him and Khryia getting to work. They used various means of punishment and reward, trying to get her to stop attacking them. It was around this time they realized that no one had ever taken off the CCC's technology. Using Mallier's brilliance, they tapped into the system.

"Okay, so you turn the dial this way to issue a command." Like this they could better control Clover and keep her from hurting herself or anyone else. "If Clover doesn't listen, it uses a punishment to make her behave." They had changed the punishment from a light zap to a spray in the face with water, which Clover did not enjoy. It took a while, but Clover seemed to be learning. Khryia could now get Clover to take her medicine without getting more than one or two bites. At least now, Clover wasn't trying to take off her fingers. Fiyero also got Clover to sit and stay, using little rewards to keep her interested in listening. "Good girl Clover," Fiyero said as he got her to sit and wait and not gobble down dinner like a fiend. "Wait, wait, okay, go." She leaped, pouncing on the bowl. There was a strong sleeping drug in there that would knock her out so that she didn't try to escape at night.

❝Across the sea, will we finally find freedom?❞

|| Need you Now || Lady Antebellum ||

When Erika next woke she saw it, a a series of glowing lines on the ground concentrating at a single point. Around them was the ruins of civilization, just a large city reduced to dust and overgrown vines and branches reclaiming it, looking twisted and demented by the miasma. Erika could feel it in every breath now, how thick the miasma was. It was circling around her head, worsening everything around her. "So this is my stop?" Maple gulped apprehensively as she looked about the place. "The coordinate focuses at this point right here." Sera flew them around until they saw a bridge. An utterly dried up old ditch was under it, large and filled with old concentrated garbage. This place just smelled awful. "Apparently in the Old World this was called River Thames." Mallier explained as she spoke through the crystal ball. "Okay. I'll stand here and wait for the signal." Maple said, sitting on the glowing spot with nervousness etched into her body language, tail stiff. Rosemary gave her a hug. "You can do it, Maple, you trained so hard. I believe in you."

Dropping her off, Erika was awake now. "Sleep, Alistair. I'll take it... from here." She almost fell backwards when Seraphina caught her with a hand on her back. "Steady, Rika. Y'ready?" So they melted into a shadow and began hopping through various shadows in this ruined city. It took almost half the day but they finally made it atop this strange tower. "This is the Sky Garden?" Mallier's voice sounded a bit uncertain because inside the place was just dead wilted ashes of what used to be plants. "This is the Healing spot." Rosemary said, stepping away from them to sit on the glowing spot where the lines congregated. "I'll wait for the signal from Mallier. Good like, you three." Alistair was roused, and now it was time to go to the third spot.

In the dead of the night they found it, of course. "This place just looks sad." Alistair said as he looked around. There were letters written on the side of this strange building. "The Hope for Peace Museum, that's what the Old World letters say." Hope for Peace? Well their hope certainly did not work, else it wouldn't have come to this, would it? "Be careful, this place looks unsteady." Alistair shrugged, taking his seat on the glowing lines. "The inside... was this a playing area for children?" Alistair asked with an odd frown. "It sure looks like it could be." Sera smiled, patting his head. "Well, let's go, Rika! I'll take us the rest of the way to my spot, then you're on your own."

Through the dark sky the two girls flew through the air, following Mallier's instructions. "I'm glad we can be friends again, Sera." Once, they were deeply in love. But now Erika loved someone else, and Sera had her eye on someone else as well. "No worries. We're meant to be best friends, I think." Ever since rescuing her from Manfred, Sera's been more confident, more open. She wasn't going to perpetrate the cycle of abuse again. She had changed. Erika couldn't help but wonder if she too, had changed. "I'll win Clover's heart. And I know you'll get Maple to see eye to eye one day." A faint blush rose on Sera's cheeks and she shook her head as they landed atop a giant old Clocktower. "I think this was called the Big Ben?" Mallier sounded a bit confused. "I don't know why that is, but there you go."

And now Erika was all alone as she shadow hopped through the ancient city. How long has it been? "Probably thousands of years since falling to ruin." Mallier's voice was awed as she and Erika made it to the final destination of their pentagram to perform the ritual. "Wait, there's something here?" They saw an inscription on the gates to this place, someone had left behind a message. Mallier began deciphering the Old World language to make sense of it. "The Fourth Impact has come and gone." Mallier read quietly. "Whats an Impact?" They continued reading.

Almost everyone is dead, and the Death Aura is spreading to the rest of the world. Doll and Christopher and everyone else is gone now. A new enemy popped up and activated the Impact and demons are flooding the world, there's nothing we can do now. Flo and Nova killed Baron Anfang, but still more Barons are coming through. There's no hope left for us, and even worse, someone activated the Seed of Yggdrasil. We worked so hard to gather all the Cores, but then they wasted the Wish, instead wishing for all humans and demons to be the same, thus turning it into a single race where some can learn magic and others have no mana at all. I'm not connected to Flame anymore...

A large portion of the survivors are going to use their last hope. Ellen called it 'The Barrier.' The plan is to escape to an island and shield us away from the rest of the world, wiping everyone's memories of this world in hopes that humanity can live on. Still, I have no choice but to leave this record here, so that not all will be forgotten.

- Melody King, former demon partner of Flame.

Erika wasn't sure what to think as she read it. So this Impact was what caused the end of the world? Mallier was a bit confused too. "Well it's good to know what happened." She said with a half smile through the crystal ball. "Anyways, here's your stop. Up atop the East Tower of this so-called Tower Society, you'll have to sit. I'll give the signal, and then you should channel all of your mana and then the world will be cleansed of miasma." Erika sat, seeing the ruined city around her, and nodded. The signal was sent and all five mages focused their mana to begin the ritual.
