Maybe it's the distant look she has in her green eyes, or the graceful way she seems to skate when she walks, or simply a lingering feeling that there SHOULD be something unusual about her and there isn't. Or maybe it's nothing at all. Mako's a little gangly at six feet, her black hair is stringy and seldom cooperative, and her fingers seem just a little bit too long, but she nonetheless has a charming face and the means to be very attractive. However, there's still that unsettling aura about her that makes her appear to be far more alienesque than she does.
She can be habitually flighty and a bit demure in expression, she has a long scar on her right arm, a parting gift from an Agni Kai went deadly. Her most prominent feature is the freckles that have recently studded her face, a trait that she cuttingly tries to hide out of sheer vanity.
Personality
Sixteen years of being an aberration and unable to control her powers in fear of letting some new natural disaster loose has left Maya more than a little bit socially awkward, as well as near-schizoid bitter. She does experience bouts of loneliness, and sometimes when someone speaks to her, her mind would wander off elsewhere, automatically assuming that they were talking to someone else. Behind that icy reserve is a volcanic flame, held by the reins, and there is little that can make her lose her temper. The mere threat of her anger is enough to get by, and when it is indeed revealed, her fury, illuminated by the uncontrolled rage of the flames, is a frightening sight. Bearing a sense of responsibility that dictates almost everything she does with her life, Mako actually has few aspirations outside trying to live a normal life and becoming the much needed emissary between the elements. Indeed, much of Mako's time is devoted to being normal. She may not be comfortable submerged within either Fire or Water culture, but she nonetheless tries to relish it in its entirety. After all, it's her purpose in life.
Equipment
Bending Style: Mako has adopted a fusion style that blends both the jing of Fire and Water. Her bending style is chaotic, haphazard, and very raw with unbridled power. After all, spirit-wise, her bending potential is second only to the Avatar. She struggles to keep it under control; in times of stress, flames would leap from her clothes, and most of the time her mind simply can't decide whether she wanted to bend water or fire, and she would end up with a pitiful cloud of steam, or in one particular case, a rain of fire for weeks on end.

Mako's father was a powerful Fire Lord, a master firebender, and a fun guy with a wonderful sense of humor. Her mother was the Moon Spirit.
Yue's pregnancy with Mako was surprisingly uneventful and even mundane, given the nature of the conception. Her birth was equally and perfectly ordinary, though it was obvious since a young age that Mako was . . . different. There was a lot of her mother in her. She was born with hair sparkling-white, thunderclouds gathered whenever she cried, and most prominently, she discovered she could communicate freely with her mother whenever, instead of the sporadic messages her parents shared in their brief interlude. Maya, her father, suggested that her life was to be kept as normal as possible, and Yue found herself agreeing. Mako, as they named her, would attend school and participate in many of the activities and clubs normal, developing youths participated in, while restricting studies of her rapidly growing abilities to home and study under her mother. She would be the one selected to be the emissary between the elements, the mouthpiece for the Moon Spirit, to both the firebenders and waterbenders alike.
Reasons why she joined the rebellion: The Fallen One has caused an imbalance in the elements that she feels is her duty to restore. She may not be the Avatar, but she is the emissary, and this was what she was born to do.
