Personality
Incredibly similar too his Bending, Ling is a young man who takes life as slowly as he can. Though analyzing every little detail of the situation, he is very relaxed and outgoing. He knows when to give up - yet he keeps trying if his heart, soul, and mind declare. Fitting his name - 'compassion, understanding' - Ling is very friendly and compassionate. Even for his enemies Ling wishes to understand their reason for fighting, just as he wishes to understand his allies' reasons for fighting. Tradition is important to Ling, but if he understands your reasoning and empathizes with you, he'll make an exception and won't complain. As mentioned before Ling wishes to empathize and understand everyone's reasons, as Air Nomads aren't usually the ones doing the attacking, but rather the ones trying to prevent destruction. Ling has
realized that life isn't fair sometimes and needs something different. No matter what side you're on - if he trusts you you have a friend through thick and thin. Just remember Ling won't take any side except for Neutral as he doesn't want any fighting at all. Though that might just be his downfall. He doesn't know when to give up and fight.
History
When Ling was born he was instantly take to the Southern Air Temple. Ling grew up around all males and was taught about everything his teachers knew about. From a very young age Ling showed high intelligence, a high level of patience, and almost infinite compassion. Ling grew up with many friends and a lot of happiness. One day he asked about his parents. His teacher shook his head, and Ling was mature enough to know they were dead. Upon his completion of the thirtieth tier of Airbending, Ling was taken to the Eastern Air Temple to meet possible love interests. However, as Ling flew low above the earth upon his flying bison; Qi, he lost control of Qi and they plummeted to the ground. The injuries Ling received from the speed Qi was flying ultimately inflicted amnesia upon him and he went into a coma. Days later he was found and taken to the closest major city. Ba Sing Se. Ling remained in a coma for two weeks dreaming of blackness. Until his twenty-fourth birthday, that day he awakened and the elderly couple who had been taking care of Ling explained everything they were told. That he had been found outside Ba Sing Se with an air bison. Ling only knew his name, the familiarity of Qi, and that he was an Airbender. Ling has resided in Ba Sing Se with his 'grandparents' and helping out at their popular Bonsai Tree shop. Though Ling considers it more of a cafe than a shop. When the fighting began the Bonsai Tree was passed down to Ling when his grandparents passed away. Ling now keeps the Bonsai Tree open as it is still a popular hangout for people seeking a break from the fighting.
