"I say what about we make a deal, I won't try to kill you and you don't stop me from burning stuff." Vehemens proposed as he raised his hand in order to make a handshake "Also don't trow water at me again." he added with a scowl.
'Everybody needs friends you dork.' She thought in her head.
"And you should fear me, for your own safety" Vehemens added. Ranae flipped her hair out of her eyes as she listened to him speak. "And never stop me again when I'm burning stuff, I'll promise I won't burn the school down." Vehemens said slowly.
"I say what about we make a deal, I won't try to kill you and you don't stop me from burning stuff. Vehemens proposed. Ranae pondered about it for a minute. 'Should I really trust him?' She thought to herself while looking at his raised hand.
"Also don't throw water at me again." He added with a scowl.
"Fine! As long as whatever you burn isn't mine! Also I'm keeping the water just in case you break the deal! I promise I won't spray you unless you do something to offend me." Ranae gushed the words out.
"OK, we have a deal." he said, he was going to his bed (kicking his wet coat in the way) but he remembered that Puppy wanted to talk to him, he should check if he was still looking for him. So instead of going to his bed the demon went to the door, opened and looked around seeing if Puppy was still around.
"No, I haven't brought any food." After thinking for a short while, she giggled. "I've forgotten how to get back to the dining hall." She slipped her shoes on as she stood and cocked her head. "Are you sure you're up for another adventure? I could just bring you something back."
Grace had noticed her friend's sluggishness and was beginning to worry.
She was about to flop down on her bed, and get comfortable but then... 'Grumble Grumble.' Her stomach protested begging for food. 'I haven't ate since yesterday.' Ranae remembered in her thoughts.
Turning her gaze towards Vehemens who was now walking out the door. 'He's not going to hurt you Ranae.' She convinced herself.
When finally plucking up enough strength she started towards the door. ' I wonder what they have to eat at the cafeteria?" She questioned in her thoughts, but suddenly out of nowhere Ranae's feet tangled up with Vehemens kicked jacket. Losing her balance she collapsed into Vehemens back.
A loud grumble sounded from his stomach " Master..... The cafeteria should have something prepared if your hungry " He began fidgeting with his fingers.
āOh, thatās alright. Iām fine honestly.ā She assured the girl in a calm tone. āItās just, uhhā¦ā
Suddenly, from nowhere, a loud grumble echoed loudly from her stomach and caused the girl to blush boldly with evident embarrassment. Crossing her arms and hugging her sides Iris shyly looked away for a moment, until eventually regaining some courage and managing to face Grace again. āIām just really hungry.ā She giggled and dropped her arms to her sides.
āNo worries, I think I can just about remember the way to the dining hall...ā Spinning round suddenly Iris knelt down beside her bed and brought out an umbrella that was placed underneath it. āBetter not forget this! Just a safety precaution, you know. Zombies and sunlight donāt mix well and I've found that an umbrella comes in handy against the sun, even in-doors.ā
With the umbrella hung over her arm securely Iris made her way to the door and opened it for the pair to exit through.
āPlease donāt worry too much about me. Once Iāve ate something Iāll feel much better.ā Stepping outside and into the hallway Iris waited for her friend to follow before continuing on down the hall.
"That is probably a great idea Puppy, lets get movin..." Vehemens was starting to leave the room, but suddenly something hit his back making him crash onto Puppy. When Vehemens grasped his surroundings again he was on top of Puppy and a small height on him announced that Ranae was probably laying on top of him.
"Do you have a death wish?" Vehemens growled, very slowly to Ranae as he tried to lift himself up from Puppy, which was difficult due to the girl on top of him
"Do you have a death wish?" Vehemens growled. 'Come on Ranae put on a poker face, and pull yourself together.' She talked to herself in her head. Slipping off of Vehemens, Ranae brushed her hair from her eyes.
"Sorry I wouldn't have fallen on you if you didn't leave your stuff on the floor." She murmured with a pout, but held out her hand to help Vehemens up.
"Well I'm going to the cafeteria if anyone want to come with." Ranae said looking at both of their faces.
"Sorry I wouldn't have fallen on you if you didn't leave your stuff on the floor." She murmured to Vehemens, she seemed to be a bit unhappy with what just happened.
" we're heading that way as well" he said with an unpleasant look towards Ranae " I'll clean that up after we eat" He Added.
Grace sighed in relief. She smiled at the girl, "I'm so glad, for a minute there you looked absolutely terrible." Despite her best efforts, she couldn't help, but giggle at the girl's adorable blush. Grace felt a rush of excitement at the thought of getting long so well with her roommate, as it had been one of her more prominent fears.
"I'm kind of in the same boat with the sun thing." Grace reached for her white jacket and searched the room for anything else she might need. Glancing at her sunscreen, she decided to put a little on her face. While the sun didn't affect her kind like it did for other vampires, her skin was still quite sensitive and would easily burn. As she rubbed it on her face, she wondered at telling Gerdy just what kind of vampire she was, though she quickly dismissed the thought. 'This is not nearly the right time,' She scolded herself.
Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she exited the door that Gerdy held open and pulled out her key, ready to lock the door. "Hey, what do you like to eat anyway? Do you eat brains?" Grace blushed at her rudeness and looked away from her friend in embarrassment. "I'm so sorry! That was terrible of me." Vampires were not often in the company of other creatures, but that was hardly an excuse to insult someone for their race, Grace of all people should understand that.
Iris smiled once her friend had caught up with her. As they made their way down the hall Iris was quiet at first, although, after hearing the girls question she could not control herself and almost at once burst into a fit of laughter. āYou know, I donāt think anyone has ever asked me that!ā She giggled loudly. āI suppose you would think that a zombie would eat brains, but I personally donāt find them at all that appealing!ā
After a few minutes of laughing hard the girl managed to gain a little control over her laughter and attempted to bring it down to a quieter level in fear of bring attention onto herself, before continuing, āGenerally I just eat whatever I can get my hands on, surprisingly. I donāt really gain a lot of weight you see, since my body isnāt really aliveā¦ Hey, you never know, I could eat a brain if it was covered in sugar and chocolate!ā The mentioning of food was making Iris all the more hungry, and even her stomach had began to occasionally grumble again because of it though she hoped no one had noticed.
āSay, do you drink blood?ā She suddenly asked in attempt to distract her mind. āSince you are a vampire I imagine it is something you would drink, right? Or is that really a myth?ā
Iris curiously eyed the girl and awaited her answer, seeing as this was her only encounter with an actual vampire she found that the time they spent together could actually be very educational and insightful. Although, despite the amount of time Iris had spent inside the body of Gerdy, she was not a true zombie and could only really assume how such a creature functioned, seeing as she was actually a ghost, one which unfortunately no one could actually see, sadly.
Ranae had caught that look he had given her. "Who are you to give me a dirty look?" Ranae's words were filled with venom. "After I even got burned for your sorry ass." She said motioning towards her bandaged wrist.
She flipped her hair and started walking down the not waiting to see if they were coming with her.
"Ok, now let's go Puppy I'm starving". Vehemens patted Puppy in the shoulder as he walked by, the guy was kind of submissive, but he was useful and didn't find a way of annoying him every five seconds like someone. But Vehemens had to let that go, he shouldn't go on a murdering rampage before classes even start.
Grace tried to keep her composure as she finally reached the cross road she had been dreading. Should she tell her friend the truth and face the potential backlash of being a freak, or lie again to save face. The thought of lying to Gerdy already made her feel a little ill, or perhaps that was the build up of blood in her system. She hadn't released her extra blood in awhile. Still, she didn't want to lie to her only friend, and she had been very accepting thus far.
After debating the choice for a little longer, Grace realized that she had created a very long silence for a seemingly simple question. Still not entirely sure about coming clean just yet, Grace opted for a simple answer. "Most do," she said with a passive expression.
Grace just managed to keep from fidgeting, but the longer she walked with her friend, the worse she began to feel. Eventually, she paused her step and turned to Gerdy. "I actually don't. I'm not like other vampires really. It's not something I talk about with many people, but I think I'd like to tell you. If you promise to still be my friend, of course."
She waited for a response with bated breath.
Iris had noticed the delayed response from her friend, and even after pondering over many possible reasons as to why that would be, she could not fathom a cause for the hesitation that Grace was presenting her with just then. Of course, being polite, Iris didnāt say anything about it. It wasnāt long until Grace began to talk again, anyway, which managed to relive Iris and put her mind at ease.
āI donāt know if Iād like the taste of blood very much.ā She casually commented and looked to the girl. At one point Grace suddenly stopped, causing Iris to do the same. This began to make her become a little anxious again, though not facially displaying it. Iris was a tad uneasy at that moment.
āOf course Iāll still be your friend! I promise you that,ā Iris reassured the girl after hearing what she had said. For a moment, briefly, she couldnāt quite believe how serious things had become between the two girls. What was Grace scared to tell her? Iris couldnāt even hazard a guess to what the reason was behind the other girls worry, but despite whatever it may be, she knew, at least, that she wouldnāt just abandon the girl. āWhether you drink blood or not, it doesnāt bother me either way. It doesnāt change the fact that your still Grace, my friend. Thereās no need to be so worried.ā
Pausing, Iris looked to Grace with a comforting smile. āSo what is it youād like to tell me?ā
"Well I mean... It's not that important I guess." Grace grabbed a piece of her curly, white hair and began to twirl it between her fingers. "I'm not a normal vampire. I'm not like a vampire at all, really," she added with a sarcastic snort.
Grace glanced up from the hair between her fingers and stared intently at Gerdy. She searched the other girl's face for any signs of contempt. With a slight grimace, she continued, "I'm actually fairly human. My abilities are slightly heightened from the standard human. The only noticeable difference physically is my fangs." She smiled a bit, allowing Gerdy to see her long, pointed canines.
"I'm a rare breed of vampire that creates too much blood. I need to expel it from my body or I'll get very ill; rotten nosebleeds, coughing blood, that sort of thing." Having finally confessed, she looked Gerdy in the eyes. "I was hesitant to tell you only because my kind are often mistreated. We are seen as lesser, like servants" Grace's eyes dropped to the floor, "like food."
Grace remained silent, waiting for Gerdy's response.
After a few moments curiosity got the better of her. 'Why would I care if these fools followed me.' Ever so casually Ranae flipped her hair over her shoulder and stole a glance behind her. To RanaeÅ surprise they were actually there, but because of RanaeÅ fast walking they were a distance away.
I cold feeling crept through RanaeÅ stomach, and then she realized that she felt lonely...
'Snap out of it Ranae!' She screamed at herself in her mind. 'Vehemens is a bad person that you should not be friends with!'
All of the sudden Ranae stopped her mental argument, and remembered Vehemens comment about not needing friends. A smirk flooded her face. She had a plan in mind. 'I will make you realize that everybody needs friends even someone as mean as you.' She thought.
Ranae had set a new goal.
