Looks can be very deceiving. One look at Gavin and most people think he's a punk, set to corrupt the world. What they don't know is that Gavin is the way he is because of his past. And on the inside, he's just a lost soul who is making the best of things.
Growing up as a middle child, Gavin was taught to put others' needs in front of his own. He was to do right by them. Not that it was hard for him, it came naturally, this need to make sure the people most important to him were okay. As a middle child, he also learned to become quite self-sufficient. Working hard to get the things he wanted because they were never simply given to him. Doing things on his own and creating his own path in life was just the way things were.
Gavin's a bit of a lone wolf. Creating and maintaining relationship isn't really him. In his opinion it's best to remain alone, that way he doesn't have to worry about hurting anyone or anyone hurting him. This makes him quite reserved. Keeping things to himself and bottling up emotions.
When he does choose to express these emotions, its in a reckless abandon type of way. Throwing caution to the wind and doing what he wants. If he's in one of these moods, he can turn snarky and resentful. But when he's not in one of the more less than pleasing moods, Gavin is good company, listening and interjecting where need be.
Fluent in both English and sarcasm. He uses his sarcasm as a shield and often doesn't realize he's using it. Others often don't know when he's being sarcastic either.

The Richmond's were some of the first to live in Virginia falls. Four generations later, Gavin and his nuclear family came into the picture. It was his mother, father, older brother Gabe, and younger sister Grace. They were like every other small town family. Busy working during the day and coming home to each other every night. Family was the most important thing to them, it was what motivated them and kept them going. They were happy, Gavin especially.
Things changed when one evening when Gavin's older brother Gabe took him and his sister out for ice cream. It had been a great day with lots of laughs. On their way home a deer appeared all of a sudden. Gabe lost control of the car and swerved until they hit a tree. Gavin was the only survivor of the accident.
Nothing was ever the same after that. The house once full with laughter and activity became desolate and quiet. His parents were crushed but no one was more damaged than Gavin. Why was he the only survivor?
Since the passing of his siblings, Gavin isolated himself. No longer was he the fun-loving charming young boy. Close friends tried to help out but it was all for nothing. Gavin wanted to be alone and have time to grieve. Grieving took a while though. The damage had been done.
In high school Gavin wasn't so depressed anymore but he still enjoyed his solitude. Getting close to others could only bring about hurt. People stayed out of his way, while others felt bad for him, for what he once was.
As soon as he could, Gavin left Virginia Falls. He was tired of the pitying looks and whispered remarks. He moved to Indiana where he went to a small technical degree program. He had finally escaped the one place that brought back bad memories.
| Back in School |
Gavin never got into any clubs or big sports. He did do rugby, mainly to get his frustrations out. Those who knew him when he was younger were still by his side, although at a distance because they knew he liked to be alone. There were times where he would be invited to gatherings, Ava made sure of that, bonfires, visits to lake, in which Gavin would go, but he didn't get too wild.
Every day after school, he'd go to the shop and help his father work on cars. Keeping himself busy was important for blocking out the past. Something he had come to terms with but still plagued him.
While everyone was dating, Gavin stayed out of it. It wasn't that he didn't like anyone in school, he just didn't think he was ready for that sort of connection. Plus some girls were afraid to approach him, even though he never gave them a reason to be afraid.
| Why I've Come Back |
Having no intention to come back at all. Gavin had established a quite life in Indiana. But when he received a letter from home, he made the long trek back to where he grew up. In the letter written by his mother, she begged for her only child to come back home where he belonged. As if it wasn't bad enough losing two children, having the only one leave had killed Gavin's parents. All they wanted was their family back. That, and his mom was newly diagnosed with breast cancer. Not wanting to cause his parents more grief and to care for his sick mother, he agreed to come back-if only for a little while.
He came back sooner than some of the others from the class of 2008. Those who remembered him where shocked to see the once lanky, tall boy, become a hardened tattooed man with a full beard. Some didn't even recognize him at all.
Being back brought back happy and sad memories but Gavin was determined to not let any of it get to him. He was going to make the best of being back and maybe even reconcile with old friends.
