Barbaric Ambition

Barbaric Ambition

0 INK

100BC-400AD The Western Roman Empire is under threat of the Barbarian tribes surrounding it.

807 readers have visited Barbaric Ambition since CussingChild created it.

Introduction

We will start this roleplay at 37 AD. The Emperor Tiberius has just passed of natural causes at 77 years old.(Or perhaps assassinated at the hands of Calligula, but not in the roleplay.) And someone must rise to the throne, will it be a son, or daughter,(A woman could not have been the emperess, but in this roleplay, ofcourse) a nephew or neice, a powerful general, or respected politician? There is no time to waste as generals of the Empire struggle to defend the frontiers against Barbarian Hordes of different names. These frontiers have been stained with blood for more than 100 years and the continued warfare drains the Empire of men and funds. Can it be saved or is the Western Roman Empire doomed to fail?
We will bend the rules of old to make this roleplay more gender friendly. It may take a while for us to gather enough characters. But we will start at 6 characters, and be open to 25 characters. Try to balance out sides and research what you are and what the enemy is, I will expect your character description to include the type of barbarian your men are based upon if you're a barbarian leader. The barbarian hordes you may base your men upon are the Lombards, Saxons, Franks, Goths, and ofcourse the fearsome Vandals.
You must think of barbarians, what makes a barbarian? Uncivilized nature, perhaps, cruelty, they were of an evil nature, but I won't have any problem with you taking a different approach, Charlemagne was a Frank. Barbarian hordes sought becoming recognized powers and bringing civilization and peace to their people through what they new well, warfare. So if you wish to have to bring discipline to animal-like men, it's a challenge you face, but a possiblity. You must start as a tribe leader, but you can become the "king" or "queen" figure of the barbarians if you unite the tribes. Ofcourse you may be resisted.
There will be matters of a political nature, feasts, or meetings. There may be plots or political struggle as there always is. And I foresee the position of Emperor will be one of the hardest. The Emperor and his success or failure will depend upon who the character is, will he be a Caesar? A Nero? An Augustus?
In this roleplay who you are is dependent only upon your imagination. Be creative. You may choose to be a mere soldier in another character's army. An assistant perhaps. An ambitious general. A patriotic leader dedicated to his or her cause. An assassin, or agent of a politician. The politician themself. Depends on you, and the decisions you and your character will make.
Every time you enter into a battle, you must state the number of troops you have. And every character will tell us who won. The character with the most votes wins. This will be based upon the character that leads the men, how they equipped their men, how many men were on each side, how well their men are trained. And it is expected of everyone to be unbiased. Multiple characters(and their troops if they command any) can be involved in a battle.

Time does not have to be consistent, or matched. There won't be much of a scale. But terrain of Rome is mountainous. Weather and time of day will be set for every battle.

If a character wishes, he must pm the Emperor/Emperess of the Western Roman Empire asking him or her to send a letter to the Eastern Roman Empire asking for assistance, and the player may enter the roleplay as a general of the Eastern Roman Empire wishing to assist. I am open to any other ideas, just ask. Remember, we're all friends here. We can all work together to make this a splendid and successful roleplay. I have faith. I will wait 2 days to see if this roleplay takes off, and after those two days I will submit a character based upon the characters already in the roleplay. If you have 6 characters before I have a character in the roleplay. Feel free to start it.

If you see anything I left out or should have mentioned. Or any questions, feel free to ask. Or let me know.

(Cralix Wuthrad)

I rode through the village, sitting atop my horse. My mind was ablaze with thoughts.

"Arn, have we collected the taxes from the lands?" I asked looking at him briefly with nonchalance. I would need the funds, my force required training and more men if I would claim lands for my people in Rome.

"Yes, sir." He answered riding at my side, the rhythmic clacking of hooves on the dirt paths was comforting. I closed my eyes for a moment with visions of blood disturbing my moment of peace.

"Do we have enough to recruit and equip as many as perhaps fifty men?" I pulled gently at the reigns halting my horse. He stopped with me if not a bit ahead, pulling at the reigns of his sickly looking, frail horse. Arn was a man of relative build. He was of low significance, but he mattered to me, and was a beloved friend from dark times. He was aging, with a balding grey head and goatee. A gruff man.

"I'm afraid not, sir." He said with a grimace, pulling at his fur coat. It was a crisp fall afternoon, that was for sure.

I made no attempt to hide my displeasure. "Well then, I ask that we distribute some of the gold to helping the village council. We'll spend the rest on supplies, but do not cut into my funds." I said it sternly and Arn pulled at the reigns of his horse, trotting silently away.

Re: Barbaric Ambition

Yes that would help. I hope we get more people soon. The Roman Empire started losing it's lands after 100 years of fighting off barbarian hordes, but it was really slow and 400 AD the Western Roman Empire had collapsed completely and only the East was really left.

Re: Barbaric Ambition

Hey I noticed you outlined your troops in actual numbers, did you want me to do the same? Like give a number of men at my characters disposal?

Re: Barbaric Ambition

Damn! I've been waiting for something like this for a while! I'm going to work up a Barbarian leader, most likely a Saxon. Going for a very brutal, savage and cruel character for this so if nothing else Rome will have a very defined almost evil adversary. >:]

Re: Barbaric Ambition

This sounds interesting. Though the Roman Empire didn't get divided until about the third century, I thought.
