I'll be home soon mum, I promise.
Tommy is a friendly chap, and although slow and incapable of reading and writing properly, he is a loyal and brave soldier who is fueled by the love of his country. His slow and 'dumber' nature often makes him a target for bullying back at home but since he has been a soldier he has realized other things are more important. His friend Archie helps him to write letters back home and although the writing is scruffy and untamed he tries his best to put his message across, sometimes using drawings to display what he is saying.
His loyal nature to his family and friends has left him homesick over the past few months and he wishes he was back home caring for his parents and his Fiancée Mary. He is burdened by the death of his two brothers and is determined to make it back to Good 'Ole Blighty at whatever cost.
Tommy grew up with an honest working class family. He did not go to school as his father had other plans for him to work with his hands and not his brain. Tommy is a skilled Carpenter and was on his way to settle with his Fiancée Mary.
He has two other brothers who joined the war as soon as it started. Martin and Mark. Martin aged 25 and Mark aged 22. They both died in battlefields of Flanders and Tommy is set on making it home to his poor mother and Father who sit at home and pray for their last remaining son. He met his Wife to be Mary a year before he went away for the war, and he has promised her to return. He remains loyal to his close family and friends, hoping that he will see them again some day soon. He was reluctant to join the army after the death of his brothers however he knows that it is his duty and that he should fight for his country and protect it as best as he can.
He is currently serving in 13th East Yorkshire regiment as a private. In the same regiment as his friend Archie.
