ImageImageSpiral is your town- it's where our story begins. A quiet, quaint little place built up from large branches, wood, and metal. An agricultural district where much of the food is produced, this place has fewer hungry citizens, but many more with few coins in their pockets. Many of the people who live here have very little experience with city life, since the big cities are much farther away and take days and money to visit. There is a large training facility for police and robots a mile or so south. Few criminals more than petty thieves stray along these paths, but the few that do always have interesting tales. Speaking of stories, every one needs characters. Jaques Roman is found lying on the street, unconscious, and is taken in by the kind Gwynedd Sparrow. Soon joined by Panda Reed, Haruka Shizuka, and Aiden A. Devoss, this adventure's going to get a little crazy. Robotic police, poverty, sickness, and no way out.
Let's dig right in, shall we?

Jack woke up with a throbbing headache and sunlight in his eyes. He licked oddly hairless lips, and as he tried to sniff around, could no longer smell anything. Well, he could smell some things, but nothing close to what he usually could gain from a deep inhale. He pushed himself up with great difficulty, clearing his blurry eyes and looking around. There was no snow, no cold, no nature. The only life to be seen was humans.

He watched the busy street, trying to walk on all fours but losing his balance. He toppled backwards down the rutted aluminum roof, catching himself on the gutter and breathing out in relief. He looked up at his pale arms that were straining to keep a grip, and it hit him with awakening clarity- he was one of them.

A human. He had a brief moment to ponder this before the gutter broke, clanging loudly as it hit the balcony with him still hanging on. A few passerby looked up, but went on their ways as he glared down. Hopefully he wouldn't be arrested for this. He examined the damage, brushing a few clumps of dust and dirt off his too-big sleeves that had fallen back down his arms.

He dropped down to the leaf-covered path, gazing up at the huge branches with buildings weaving around them. Thin paths made of rope and planks wound between these buildings, and Jack walked and admired at the same time. He was bumped by a scrawny young child, and looked down to make sure the little human was alright. Glancing back up into the fierce blue eyes, the young boy scampered off towards a particularly large complex of buildings.

Shrugging, Jack swept his hungry gaze across the village. Spiral, he saw on a sign. A benefit of being in testing was that they'd taught him letters and words, and he could read well enough to make his way around. He noticed a metallic glint, brushing it off as a sunlit rooftop until a mechanized growl came from behind him. Sweeping around, he saw three wolf-like creatures padding towards him with faint clicks.

"ID, please. Your citizenship document is required in a new town." The leader spoke in a monotonous, recorded voice that seemed odd and strangely intimidating. Jack tried, in vain, to remember if he'd gotten an ID from the lab. He couldn't recall receiving anything of the sort, but maybe...

He tugged a small card from her back pocket, looking at an image of a human face. He studied the letters, seeing a few words that he believed made up his name. Holding out the small plastic item to the dogs, he shuddered. Like him, but so different. Jack took the card back as soon as the dogs finished with it, walking away in a manner that he believed wouldn't convey his real fear.

He held the card in his palm as he wandered, looking at the words he recognized. Jacques Roman, he thought was his name. There were a bunch of numbers that he couldn't decipher, too. Flipping it over, he noticed a new symbol emblazoned. A small hand with a spiral on the palm. He looked at his own hand, wondering why there was no such design on his own.

Jack pushed the card into his pocket, and suddenly his legs felt strange. His arms became heavy and he instinctively dropped onto all fours, realizing that he somehow must have turned back into a wolf. Wondering which condition would become permanent, or if he'd be stuck changing, Jack freely ran through the loamy soil and felt his grey fur ruffle in the breeze. Slowing to a stop near a cottage, he stumbled. Drowsiness called to him with a sweet voice, and he gave in quickly.

The day had begun just as any other did. The sun rose but by the time it did, Gwyn was already awake. He had gone to the market-square to buy some fresh groceries for meals later. He smiled at his familiar faces in the square. He gave this homeless man a few dollars and a warm cup of tea before heading home.

Huge paper bags in his arms, Gwyn wore a happy face, today was a good day. Something important was going to happen, he could just feel it. As he walked he noticed a lot more security and robotic dogs than usual. Must be that time of year again. Gwyn sighed, he wasn't a big fan of the governmental system they had currently, but he definitely wasn't going to be the one to change it. No, he was too shy for that. Big jobs like that were for big important people. Not a shy little boy who lived alone and didn't really have any family or close friends to speak of. It was usually like that though, he'd look around and realize how alone he was. Did it make him sad? Well, of course it did. He knew he'd be a great friend. The best one ever! Although, he was a bit too shy to try though.

It seemed like he'd be alone forever, it was like he was at war with shyness and it was winning. As he made his way down the winding street that would lead him home, he noticed a form crumpled up on the ground. It looked like an animal, like from the picture books he had. Gwyn felt his heart begin to race, if the guard dogs found it. . .They'd lock it away forever and Gwyn would never see one ever again. Quickly running over to the body laying on the ground he looked to make sure the guards weren't around. Luckily they weren't. Tucking the grocery bag under his left arm, Gwyn hooked his other arm under the beast's front arms. He was so happy he had discovered it, if it had been anyone else. . . Who knows what would've happened to the poor thing.

So it took longer than usual but Gwyn managed to get the animal into his house. He laid out a cot and swaddled the thing up in blankets. He couldn't recall what animals needed exactly so he just poured a bowl full of water and put it by where it was laying. Gwyn smiled with an almost maternal glow down at the furry thing. It was so beautiful. . . He had never seen anything like it. He guessed it was some sort of dog? It looked like a real one of the robotic ones. Gwyn remembered dogs made great companions. Laying down beside it, gazing at it lovingly, he sighed content.
"Maybe. . .I won't be so lonely anymore now that I found you. Huh little guy?" Gwyn leaned over and kissed the muzzle of the animal softly.

Jack stirred in the tight bonds, feeling a faint warmth. He tried to stretch out, but his limbs were tangled. He strained, but the cloth refused to give way. His eyes shot open and he let out a faint growl before he realized he wasn't in the lab. He pulled his limbs closer and gazed around, alert and curious. He noticed a human nearby, and his eyes narrowed. He let out a faint growl before realizing this person had probably saved him. Pouting quietly in the next of fabrics, he looked for any sustenance. Noticing some water in a bowl similar to when he'd been in solitary confinement, he stood shakily and lapped it up. It was fresh and cold; a nice change from the grimy, artificial rainwater he'd survived off of while wandering.

Padding quietly across the floor, he neared the human. He sniffed around where the human was, but didn't risk getting too close. He noticed a faint wistful sadnedss scent, a smell like sorrow and desire. Letting out a quiet yip, he sat on the floor. What was this place? And was he going to turn back into a human?

After he had planted a soft kiss on the animal it appeared he had drifted off, he guessed it had to do with the warmth of the creature so close to him. His eyes slowly flitted open to see the animal was gone. He sat up quickly and his heart began to race, then he looked over to see it sitting a few feet away. A sigh of relief flooded him and a warm smile turned his lips. Gwyn wasn't sure how to approach it now that it was awake. It seemed dirty and hungry, but then again he could be wrong.

"Would you like some food little guy?" Gwyn asked kindly as he stood up, careful not to startle the creature. He wanted to befriend it, not scare it away. Plus he knew if the sentries found it they'd experiment on it or just kill it. Gwyn wouldn't let his new friend get caught by those jerks. Gwyn stretched and beckoned for the wolf to follow him as he picked up his groceries and headed to the kitchen area. Setting those on the counter he rolled up his sleeves and began cooking. He hummed a soft tune and swayed slightly, enjoying himself. It wasn't often he had a guest to cook for. He wondered briefly if animals could get impressed? He was gonna try regardless, he wanted to get in good with it. Glancing back towards the animal Gwyn smiled again, his cheeks hurting from all the smiling. He just was over the moon, a real live animal was stowed away on his own home! He didn't even worry about the consequences. He finally had a pet. He wished his mother was around to see it. "I'm gonna make Tuna Sashimi? With a vegetable stir fry... Sound good little friend?" Gwyn said before turning back to fling the spices together into the frying pan. Again he wondered if dogs and wolves could even have Sashimi... He supposed if the dog wouldn't eat it he'd know then.

Jack shifted as the human stood, watching warily with sharp silver eyes as the boy spoke. He wished he could reply with a human tongue, but all he could do with his current body was bark in a frustratingly ineffective manner. Curious about the gentle boy, however, Jack followed his rescuer into an area with large sterile-looking appliances and a homely mood. He sniffed fearfully at the metal machines, startled by a bump at his hind foot. He spun around to see a strange fruit on the floor, and as he reached to pick it up with his jaws, Jack suddenly felt a strange sensation and looked down at his body. The fur was receding, leaving him with a human body again. Hoping his new acquaintance wouldn't panic at his shapeshifting tendencies, Jack picked up the fruit gingerly and placed it on a counter.

He smelled boiling water, watching with concentrated intent as the male put spices into a shallow bowl-like creation over a circle that seemed to be very hot. Jack was again confused by humans and their odd technology, and he warily tested his new mouth, with dull teeth and a certain roundness that his elongated snout differed greatly from. Jack knew how to speak, he knew many human words, but he'd only mustered the courage to use his voice on a couple of occasions. "That sounds... delightful." he managed to say, with pauses in his speech like an uncertain toddler.

Jack was sure that his rescuer would freak out now. It wasn't every day that a wolf appeared, turned into a human, and began to speak. Heck, Jack didn't even know how it was possible himself.

Gwyn was very focused on cooking and it was going quite swimmingly when he felt something rise up behind him. Then a piece of fruit he must've dropped was placed on the counter. Now, this was all very odd seeing as it was only Gwyn and the wolf there. His eyes widened slightly as a voice cautiously spoke. He turned around to see a man standing there.

"U-um pardon me mister. . . Where did you c-come from?" Gwyn said timidly, keeping his eyes above the equator. Gwyn didn't want to turn his back on the strange man but he didn't feel threatened so he turned and went back to cooking. His calm was returning, the more the merrier he supposed. "Well. . . If you intend to stay I'll need a name please. Also you'll be expected to help me with this. Then you are welcome to have some." Gwyn tossed the veggies and then plated them. He pulled out a knife and began slicing the Tuna and after he had done that he rushed over and carefully laid it on top of the rice balls he had made. "Here, help me carry the Sashimi over to the table please. Oh! I'm Gwyn by the way." Gwyn then picked up the stir-fry veggies and smiled at the man before heading off towards his dining table. He couldn't help but look around a bit for his wolf friend. Of course the thought crossed his mind that the man was the wolf. . . Hah! How crazy would that be. Then again this man did sort of appear out of nowhere. Plus all the windows and doors were locked.

Gwyn quickly went about setting the table with precision and grace, as if he were moving to music but none was playing. Then he set the veggies down and turned in the direction of the man. "Come on, don't be shy!" He called out to him before sitting down.

Jack wasn't sure how many strange things happened up in the Beanstalk, but the boy hardly seemed fazed past the fact that a man had suddenly appeared. He prepared to explain everything as best he could, but the other male simply turned back to the meal he'd been preparing. Jack was now very stumped by human behaviors, but the least he could do in return for his life being saved was help out.

"My name is Jack. Thank you very much for saving my life out there." He spoke more surely now, still afraid that he'd turn back into a wolf at any moment. It had been terribly unpredictable. He watched as his new companion created food, glad that there was at least fish from aquatic greenhouses. He was, for once, grateful to the scientists for educating him as well as they had. He carried the finished plate over to a small table and placed it down carefully, nodding as Gwyn introduced himself.

Jack allowed a smile to grace his human lips. Gwyn was incredibly kind and accepting, and Jack couldn't have asked for anything more. He sat near Gwyn at the table, his gaze wandering over the simple, yet delectable dish.

"I owe you so much, Gwyn. Thank you for everything." He took a bite, savoring the delicious flavors, and swallowed. It was good to eat real food again. "I'm quite an alien here. I was engineered in a lab on the ground, where they discovered me as a wolf and somehow gave me this human form. I'm not quite sure why I am here, but I really wish to return home. I know it's awfully selfish of me, but would you like to accompany me? I'm in no shape to travel now, of course, but maybe some day..."

Jack looked off into the distance, staring through the windows and seeing red eyes. The canine robots. He returned the glare as the dog left. Hopefully it hadn't heard anything that would get him in trouble.
