| PERSONA |
To outsiders, he may appear to project an aura of "definiteness", of self-confidence. This self-confidence, sometimes mistaken for simple arrogance by the less decisive, is actually of a very specific rather than a general nature; its source lies in the specialized knowledge systems that start building at an early age. When it comes to his own areas of expertise -- and he can have several -- he will be able to tell you almost immediately whether or not he can help you, and if so, how. He knows what he knows, and perhaps still more importantly, he knows what he doesn't know. He is a perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes his interest. What prevents him from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is the pragmatism so characteristic of the type: He applies (often ruthlessly) the criterion "Does it work?" to everything from his own research efforts to the prevailing social norms. This in turn produces an unusual independence of mind, freeing him from the constraints of authority, convention, or sentiment for his own sake.

He is known as the "Systems Builder" of most groups, perhaps in part because he possesses the unusual trait combination of imagination and reliability. Whatever system he happens to be working on is for him the equivalent of a moral cause to another, both perfectionism and disregard for authority may come into play, as he can be unsparing of both himself and others on a project. Anyone considered to be "slacking," including superiors, will lose his respect -- and will generally be made aware of this; He has also been known to take it upon himself to implement critical decisions without consulting his supervisors. On the other hand, he does tend to be scrupulous and even-handed about recognizing the individual contributions that have gone into a project, and have a gift for seizing opportunities which others might not even notice. In the broadest terms, what he "does" tends to be what he "knows".

Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be the his Achilles heel. While he is capable of caring deeply for others (usually a select few), and is willing to spend a great deal of time and effort on a relationship, the knowledge and self-confidence that makes him so successful in other areas can suddenly abandon or mislead him in interpersonal situations. This happens in part because he does not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, he tends to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation (which most consider half the fun of a relationship). To complicate matters, he is usually extremely private, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes him easy to misread and misunderstand. Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that he really wants people to make sense. This sometimes results in a peculiar naivete', only instead of expecting inexhaustible affection and empathy from a romantic relationship, he will expect inexhaustible reasonability and directness.

So begins...

Zeron practically lived at the cafe. It was a sort of sad existence, really. At least, that was how people who visited regularly saw it. But those that only stopped by every once in awhile? Or his previous conquests? They thought he was special. A ladies man, and a mans man. He had taken both to bed before, took one or the other with him almost every night. That's why they called him the player. Some said it was a sad existence, that he would never be able to love someone and would just live this lonely, non-fulfilling life for forever. But if you asked him, he didn't mind it. Zero liked this life, and he wasn't about to change it to make some strangers happy. The Dark Lovers though, were different. They did not judge him, they could not, could they? They were in the same place he was, the situations altered slightly but, the same. These were the people he got along with best.

For now he was content with staying at the Beating Heart Cafe. There was a steady flow of customers, which always provided entertainment for him. When there wasn't anything particularly interesting, he had the waiters to flirt with. Occasionally he would take one to bed with him, but then they either quit or were fired. He sat up at the bar usually, though they only served wine, because it was more open up there, easier to meet new people rather than hiding in a booth all day. He was sipping the red, raspberry tasting liquid when something outside the shop caught his eye. Or more someone, though he never went after a person. They came to him.

With hands stuffed in his pockets and a lazy grin on his face, Dae strolled down the sidewalks, whistling a cheerful tune and surveying the areas around him as he made his way to his favorite Café. As soon as it had opened he had pretty much claimed it as his own, a complete regular and also one who went into pretty much every room in that shop with little repercussion. It was a shame, though, really. He spent practically all of his spare time there, and yet the manager refused to give him a job, no matter how much he begged. But Ari wasn’t one to give up so easily. At his musing, a soft chuckle passed his lips, and he soon found himself at the door. A brilliant smile lit up his face, and he flung the door open wide, the small bell at the top of the door jingling to announce his arrival. Normally, he would have called out to some of the workers there, or had gone to hunt Eros down, but as he took a few steps in, something had caught his attention.

A low, appreciative whistle squeezed through his lips and filled the café, and Dae had his gaze set upon a particular individual, to which he quickly rushed over to with wide eyes and a half grin. He leaned over the first barstool, hands placed comfortably on the cushion and looking at the guy seated a couple chairs over.

Odera Barlin

Odie quietly peddled along the roads, back straight and wind whipping through her hair while the sun leant itself for warmth. A gentle smile was presented on her lips as she eased her bike around a corner, the Beating Heart Café now in sight and she was rapidly approaching it. Otter had a total of three means of travel for delivering in her job: truck, bike, and simply walking. Seiri had requested a few ingredients, which Odie had been more than happy to fulfill, so she had taken her bicycle today. It was a really nice day today, and it just made Odie’s heart happy to be out and about doing things to benefit other people.

She soon came skidding to a halt behind the building, letting her feet raise up above the pedals as she gently applied the brakes. The two bags in the woven basket between her handles rustled a bit from the wind change. Otter soon walked her bike over to the wall before getting off of it and leaning it against the building. After rubbing down the wrinkles in her shorts, she seized the bags by their bottoms and carried them to the door. Except, there happened to be a bit of traffic, as two people seemed to be standing in the way of her path, and a box of some kind shared between them.

As Odie approached, she soon discovered that the box contained none other than little mewling kittens. A hesitant smile teased at the corner of her lips, but she breathed gently and looked up at the two, “Oh um, ah, sorry, can I just squeeze past you guys, if it wouldn’t be too much trouble?”

Zeron had gone back to paying attention to the waiter behind the bar, as he had been flirting with the man for over twenty minutes now. It wasn't like there was actually any advantage of it though, as a Dark Lover he got as many free drinks as he wanted, so there was no need to flirt for them. Suppose it was mostly for entertainment, like everything was for him. There was rarely any other motive behind anything he did, unless he was trying to upset someone. Something about emotional pain just heart racing and his blood pumping, he would almost go as far to say that it turned him on in some sort of sick, twisted way.

He turned when he heard the whistle, eyebrow quirking in an amused way. The waiter looked annoyed when his attention shifted, especially when the orange haired kid actually came over towards them. Zeron paid little attentoin to the watier though, he was old news, this was something new. He had seen the boy here before, he seemed to be a regular, but he hadn't ever found him attractive until now. Maybe he got a haircut or something. "What?" The kid was staring at him, but he asked his question in an amused tone. Behind him he heard the waiter clear his throat, perhaps wanting to get his attention, but he ignored him.

With the question, Dae’s attention shifted down to the face of the man sitting across from him. He blinked once before tilting his head to the side slightly, “Eh? Oh hey, sorry, didn’t see you sitting there. But man, look at that hawk out there.” A good-natured smirk filled his lips in a subtle yet noticeable way before it was quickly replaced with a benevolent grin as he gave one last fleeting glance to the uncommon bird.

He then took a seat at the barstool, eyes intently gazing towards the back as he rested his elbow on the counter and placed his chin on his fist, scanning for the owner of the café to make his daily request. Pausing for a second to muse on the absence of many of the waiters and waitresses, he then shifted backwards on the cushion, soon rapping his fingers softly on the surface in front of him. It was only a matter of time before Eros showed his face… and that was when he would pounce.

Mischief flared in his eyes for a moment and he grinned lightly. However, Dae suddenly remember the man beside him, and inclined his head fractionally in his direction. Ari had hardly noticed the man before in any real examination, only a fleeting glance to register his presence on the occasion they were in the café at the same time. But today seemed a day for playful musings and teasing, and besides, the guy would probably be interested in talking to him, or at least scrutinize his every movement for a little while. Either way he was content right there on his chair; heck, maybe he’d even get something to snack on while he waited.

Image Angel Kalovar Angel continued to gaze curiously at the cafe then sighed. Just as she was about to get up, she heard a familiar voice. Angel jumped slightly in her spot and her heart began beating quickly. It wasn't like she was going to tell Akito that she actually wanted to go inside. Angel smiled up at Akito.
I like being alone.
Was the excuse that her "genius" mind came up with. She did like being alone, but that's really no reason to sit on the dirty ground near some bags of trash, especially for someone so finicky about cleanliness. Angel realized, but she couldn't exactly lie again. She sometimes asked herself why she lied to people about such pointless things.

Angel certainly wasn't expecting to hear yet another voice, and it was not a familiar one. She looked up and seen a younger looking man with blonde hair and bright blue eyes. He was quite attractive, but Angel didn't really notice. She didn't pay much attention to those things anymore. What appealed to her most was that a random stranger came up to her and took a few seconds out of his life to help an ugly girl sitting in an alley. Angel slightly smiled at him and pushed herself off the ground. She dusted her clothes off and showed another small smile.
I'm fine, thank you for asking.

Previous and traumatizing events from Angel's past didn't cause her to become cold towards anyone, she just became depressed and blamed only herself. She would still smile at strangers if they made eye contact, help a stranger with a small issue or just act kindly towards others. Like said before, she doesn't blame anyone but herself, so why take it out on others? Angel remembered that the alley she found herself in was where "Leon's" cats usually were located. She looked beside herself and noticed that they weren't there anymore. Angel looked at Akito and sighed, forgetting about the other blonde for a few moments.
Leon went in there earlier, and I think I know why...
Angel pointed towards the empty spot.
There's usually a box of stray kittens there and I've noticed that Leon has been visiting them everyday. He probably when looking for them, but in the completely wrong spot. Also, Zeron is most likely in there looking for his own "kitten" to bring home.
Angel said in a delicate tone. She rolled her eyes at the last part of her sentence and sighed.

Zeron didn't have a problem with love, per say. He had nothing against, he believed people could be in love, he supposed. But he didn't believe he would ever be in love, didn't believe he could ever truly feel anything more than contempt and maybe slight amusement towards another person. Even those that he "caught", or whatever they called it, the ones he took to bed with him. Those people he regarded even more negatively than those he had not slept with- which was admittedly few people. Though he was a complete hypocrite when it came to the matter. He hated prudes, but the people who slept with him with little persuasion he considered "easy", or dirty really. And if you asked what he thought of himself then, considering he was the one sleeping with all of them, he would simply say that he was normal. It made all the sense in the world to Zeron though.

Eron frowned at the male now sitting beside him, regretting his decision to even attempt to engage him in conversation. His comment was childish, and the Dark Lover didn't even bother glancing back through the window to see what he was pointing at and making such a fuss over. Instead he dutifully turned his attention back to the waiter, whom was seemingly glad to have his attention again, though still a little sore from being ignored for so long. It took little flirting and convincing from Zeron though to make him feel better again, and soon there was another glass of wine being sat down in front of him, and then another poured and being sat down in front of the boy to his side. That was all Ze, and though the waiter looked upset to do it, he complied.

Dae practically pouted to himself as the man to his right completely disregarded him to… flirt with the waiter. ”Usually people have better manners about these things. And I didn’t really think him one to give up so easily. He was about to get up and wander into the back when a glass suddenly clinked on the counter before him. Easing back into the chair, and eyeing the waiter out of the corner of his eye, Ari picked up the wine and eyed it suspiciously. With how that waiter was giving him a subtle death glare, he wouldn’t have been surprised if he had spat in it while he wasn’t looking. “Hm, thanks. But wine doesn’t tend to like me.” He gave a content smile, but still raised the rim to his lips to take a sip or two to show good faith and gratitude before setting it back down.

He shifted his head to look at the man a few seats next to him, “So, what’s-“ Dae cut his question short as he heard a very familiar voice, and turned his attention away from the black haired man to focus on Shima instead, “If it isn’t the man of dreams himself!” With a spry and friendly grin of his own, Ari greeted his friend with no shame.

“And you as well, of course, though you see me practically every day it seems like it’s been eons and eons since I last saw that beautiful snowy-forest head of yours.” He grinned cheerfully, pointing out both the white and black of his hair in a very nice manner if he’d say so himself. With a little blink, he shifted his gaze back to the man on his right, and figured it’d be polite –or at least wicked fun- to introduce the man who was more or less uninterested with him. “And this is… Well actually I don’t know. What do you say, mysterious stranger? Give us a name, or is it naught for light-hearted ears to hear?” He smirked good-naturedly, directly focused on his face, waiting with eagerness for an answer.

With the express of gratitude from Seiri, Odie beamed with happiness, “No problem! Always happy to stop by, whenever possible, at all hours, away from my other stops, any time….” She rambled playfully, but Otter really did love the Café, it was her favorite stop out of her rounds, and she occasionally visited once she was off, she's never missed a day in coming to the Cafe. In fact, she sometimes stayed too long and then had to rush the rest of the day to fill her other orders, but she was content to do so as her manager didn’t seem too miffed about it.

"Well, you could help if you'd like. But of course, you don't have to or anything! Just saying if you'd like a little taste of the kitchen. Besides, then you can prove to that man that you're also a great chef. Who knows, maybe you'll be working in here with me one day!" With a doubtful grin to her comment on cooking, Odie rubbed the back of her neck slightly, “Maybe, if you’re my mentor I guess. But yeah! I’d love to help if you’d have me. It might be easier than running about all day.” She looked up at Seiri with an honest smile and bright eyes. She loved her job and all, and really wouldn’t trade it, but if she could hang out at the café all day and make money while doing it, she wouldn’t be complaining. But her cooking skills were hardly much when compared to Seiri’s, as well as her work ethic. Plus there’s always that little nagging chance she could get in the way or ruin something.

"Oh I'm used to it. Seeing people fall asleep on countertops or while standing up is natural now since Shima's even worse." At the mention of her brother, Odie shifted a bit uneasily with the subtlest of awkward blush on her cheeks, hardly noticeable. He made her more nervous than she usually was around people, so she often tended to avoid him. Possibly for other reasons too. "The guy will even sleep on the floor and sometimes during his classes when he was in high school, the idiot." Odera gave a light chuckle at the comments, and grinned at how Seiri talked of her brother. Sometimes it made her miss her own brother, but not often. He had moved away awhile ago, and she hadn’t heard from him in a long time. They used to be really close, but he sort of poofed without warning, and the relationship sort of died from there.

“So, what should I do?”

Image “No problem! Always happy to stop by, whenever possible, at all hours, away from my other stops, any time….”

Seiri was glad that Odera didn't mind coming by and working when she could. After all, it was nice to have some company in the kitchen since she was the only one in there that worked for hours nonstop. Company was the best gift she could get during her work days.

“Maybe, if you’re my mentor I guess. But yeah! I’d love to help if you’d have me. It might be easier than running about all day.”

"I can imagine it'd be! And of course~ But one day you'll be the one that'll be cooking alone, so keep everything I say in mind! Oh, but call on me if you need any help though." Seiri said, finishing up decorating a small piece of cake that was going out to a costumer.

After the mentioning of her 'idiot' brother, she saw a slight blush on Odera's face, wondering what that meant, but she didn't say anything and just went on about talking about the different places he slept in, like his school, on his engineering job, and other odd places you wouldn't expect a regular person to sleep in.

“So, what should I do?” She heard Odera ask.

"Well..." Seiri began to look through her orders for a quick moment. She didn't want to give Odera anything hard to make, so instead, she just pointed to a few orders that looked quite similar, "Decoration?" She asked, and quickly headed over to a little tray of what appeared to be different sizes of cakes and cupcakes and put it near Odera, "If it's alright with you, mind decorating them? The type doesn't matter, as long as it appeals to you, because then it'll probably appeal to the costumers also~" She said happily.

She then turned back to her work and finally finished Eros's food. She was about to hand it over to the owner, but then noticed that Haru had borrowed the kitchen for a minute and already made him something. A small smile appeared on Seiri's face just then as she went back to the kitchen silently and decided she'd eat it for lunch, or maybe give it to Odera if she had nothing to eat for the day.

"You should come over today." Seiri offered to Odera with a smile, "Maybe come over for dinner or something. It's nice to have people come by every now and then, if you'd like." She said, not minding if she didn't accept since they were all busy in their own ways.

“If it isn’t the man of dreams himself!”

"M-Man of dreams?" Shima laughed, not understanding the term too well, despite how obvious it really was. Still, the term did make him laugh, and you could say that that was what mattered.

“And you as well, of course, though you see me practically every day it seems like it’s been eons and eons since I last saw that beautiful snowy-forest head of yours.”

"You know me." He shrugged with a little chuckle, "Sleeping everywhere, anytime, its easy to forget how long it's been since you last saw someone. And I suppose it has, same for you, with you and your blazing red hair and all." Shima smirked a bit. Despite how odd his hair really was, he actually, somehow, found Dae's hair color odder than his.

“And this is… Well actually I don’t know. What do you say, mysterious stranger? Give us a name, or is it naught for light-hearted ears to hear?” Dae began to attempt to introduce the man next to him, but before that was possible, Shima smiled and introduced himself instead.

"Shima Shoose, nice to meet you, sir." He said, much more polite than the casual way he talked to Dae and his other friends.

A moment later, still waiting for a reply from the dark haired man, Shima turned back to Dae and asked, "Hey, you want any food? Had lunch yet?" He asked, partially since he always wanted to make sure his friends were content and what such, but second was because he, too, was hungry, since anyone could hear his stomach grumble, causing his face to turn a little pink here and there from the embarrassment.

Zeron decided he hated people such as the two beside him now, chattering away and driving him completely insane. If it wasn't for the amount of alcohol currently in his system, he probably would have turned and said something to them by now, along the lines of telling them to shut up and to stop being so cheery. Happy people just bothered him- they obviously did not deserve to be happy, no one did. Happiness was just something made up, for weak people. Something for them to believe in. Zeron knew better though, knew that it was only made up, that no one could ever truly be happy. That was why he was content with being the way he was, sort of depressed he supposed, living with hatred for everyone around him. Even his "friends". The "Player" was simply someone who loved himself so much that he had no love left for the rest.

It didn't help when the child beside him decided to try and introduce him to his friend. Frowning, he turned only slightly, giving the new kid a once over. "Yeah, sure, you too." No, it wasn't nice to meet him, he didn't care to know him. More likely than not he would never see the kid again. Turning front again without actually ever introducing himself, he ordered another drink- stronger this time, please. The waiter gave him a wary look, commenting on how he had been drinking since early morning and should maybe drink some water. It took everything in Eron not to snap at him, and instead politely repeat his request. A moment later another red drink was being sat in front of him. He took a drink, enjoying the sort of burning in his throat as the liquid went down. He watched the waiter leave with a bit of a sigh, then watched the new waitress come out from the back. His entertainment was gone now.

The God of Love continued to slumber peacefully at the front of the shop. Little by little he felt himself slipping into dream land, but the mumbles and sounds of the shop kept him from slipping away completely. He groaned in annoyance hearing his name from the sea of muffled voices. "Five more minutes..." he pleaded to the who ever wanted him awake. Oh how cruel this world was. Is it so bad for the male to just want to sleep and procrastinate his work? Probably...

By the time he recognized the voice he was now fully awake. He opened one eye peering up at Haru, his attention turned to the sandwich in her hands. His stomach replied for him making another loud growl. "Don't waste food." He groaned as he pulled himself up from his laying position making him sit upright. He smirked at the pink haired girl and stretched his arm out asking for the plate. "You really didn't have to cook, I could have gotten something from Seiri. But It would be such a waste if you threw that out."

He chuckled as he got up and taking the plate from Haru before she could reply. He sat back on the love seat leaving some room for the female to sit with him. He took a bite from the sandwich and smiled. "Not bad," he smirked at her taking another bite. "I might have to fire you from being a waiter and rehire you as a chef." He chuckled at the female.

As he continued to eat he scanned over his cafe. It seems that Haru was right. There doesn't seem much love happening in the building. He watched some of the customers as they went on with their day. He brought his attention to three men two of them he quickly recognized as Shima and his good friend Dea. And another gentle man that seemed to be hating every living soul in this building. He watched as he called on another waiter who brought him a drink. He snarled a little as he watched from a distant. "We're not suppose to be serving alcohol at his time." He gave out a sigh as he continued to watch silently.

Haru's words rung in his head. "I don't see much love going on, it seems more like a cafe to me now." He frowned as he took another bite. Honestly this cafe was the only idea the god had to help the human race find love. But it seemed like it was backfiring, less and less couples seemed to be getting together and more of them seemed to split up. Some would even break up right out side of his lovely cafe. Love is complicated game, so complicated even Eros himself had difficulties playing it.

He looked over at the person sipping his drink. His fingers formed the shape of gun and he pointed them at the male. In his mind it was the arrow he used in the olden days. "Pew" He said quietly to himself pretending to pull the imaginary trigger and hoping it would hit the drinking male. But alas he knew that wouldn't work it wasn't like before where he could just shoot an arrow. He sighed and took another bite of the sandwich. "It's not as easy as it use to be..."

The man across from him seemed rather tense for a drunk guy, and key twitches of grudging could be seen on his face from his state. Normally that would be a bit irritating, but Dae figured that he was being rather uncouth with this stranger, not to mention drunks shifted emotion fast. He wasn’t a very pleasant guy, that one. But nonetheless, Dae had a keen interest in pushing and prodding to see his reactions and test his bounds. With ones that looked like the mysterious stranger, it wasn’t all that bad of an idea; he should at least know what to look out for.

Ari stretched a bit at Shima’s food query, rubbing the back of his head lightly, “Nah, not at the moment. I’ll catch you later on that though.” He dismissed his friend with a small, content smile, and watched as he walked away. Turning back to the man across from him, he rested his arm on the counter and leaned down a bit on it, “So, are you really not going to give me a name?” His tone held little humor unlike it had previously, not really wanting to piss this guy off any more than he already possibly had. He rested his full attention on the man, waiting to see if he’d answer this time.
