The newest addition to the Warehouse 13 team
As far as personality goes, when first meeting someone, Alexei can come off as shy and awkward, and indeed he finds it hard to really get to know people; as a result of this, he hates changing and meeting new people, preferring to keep either with his own friends, or on his own. Once someone actually goes through the trouble of getting him to 'come out of his shell' they would find someone rather different. Alexei tends to be very sarcastic and cynical, and rather pessimistic about most things; he has had the term asshole applied to him more than a few times. Nevertheless, he is friendly (usually) in his own way, and intensely loyal to whomever he works with (or friends, though he tries not to use the term), going to great lengths to keep them out of danger.
He possesses an investigative and piercing mind, has a powerful intellect, but his main strength is in physics and biology. If he hears something he doesn't know about, he absolutely must learn about it as soon as possible.
Alexei Sakhalin's past is kept well-secret, but it's surprisingly ordinary considering where he is now. Born in Russia, his parents moved often, and he lived in the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and Germany before they settled down in the United States. He was known even from a young age for a powerful curiosity and a desire to find the answers, and he was from his youth a very intelligent young man. The entire time, though he did not know it, he was being well watched and his actions were being recorded and documented by the Regents, who had taken an interest in the young man. They did not, however, make a move until he was sixteen.
In that year, his parents, well-known and prominent scientists, were killed on their way to a conference in the United Kingdom when the jets on their airliner failed, and the plane plummeted into the ocean. After that, for some time Alexei was forced to live on his own, avoiding being thrown into an orphanage and refusing to be adopted. He was difficult to track, but some time later the Regents found the young man and made him an offer: he could be kept away from the law, and have access to all the scientific tools he could want, if he would join the Warehouse, where the Regents believed his inquisitive and investigative mind and genius could be put to use. Of course, they were much more vague about it, but he accepted the offer, and was placed at the Warehouse just in time to discover that ten powerful artifacts had gone missing. Before he could even learn the names of his fellow agents.
