Over the years Chris had learnt to stay still whenever he has visits from his father. Often he would just use his fists and feet to break Chris's body down, other times he would be more creative, using kitchen knives and scalding hot water. Ropes and wires that delivered sharp shocks to the body. Each object was used with such malice that Chris never knew how to react. But he had to stay still and silent, the slightest peep would have made the whole ordeal much worse.

He sat quietly in the corner of his "room" his hands tapping together softly, his right hand was bound with a thin rope that was tight around his skin, bleeding and sore from years of pulling and being thrown around like a rag doll. He did try to escape but only ended up biting his hand, at least that way he knew he was still there. Pain was a reminder of terror, and terror knew Chris very well.

He sat in pitch black, the only escape was when the door was opened, he would get a blast of fresh air as well as a beam of soft light. It was the only thing he looked forward too.

He scratched at his hair, nearly falling out and tangled from lack of food and hygiene, the scratching moved to the rest of his body knocking slowly healing wounds so they would bleed again.

His head tilted at the sounds coming from the door, his father sounded angry. That was never good. He whimpered softly pushing himself deeper in the corner in order to escape the loud noise. His breathing picked up and he shielded himself from the light as best he could with a bound hand and limited movement.

" Oh my gosh.." That was not his father's voice..it was another man entirely. Chris peeked from his elbow to see the man better, dressed in a strange coloured uniform, with shiny bits on it. The shiny bits could hurt Chris! He shook his head and turned his body away tugging his hair sharply, strands coming away with his fingers.

The man crouched down and began speaking to Chris obviously he didn't know what he was saying, he wasn't used to kind soft words. Anger and hate was all Chris recognised as well as pain he was terrified. He began to shiver as the fresh air from the door being open made him cold, he had next to nothing on in terms of clothes. A torn ragged shirt and a pair of over soiled underwear, plus he had not fat on his body at all he was just bones.

He was too busy whimpering and shivering like a nervous wreck that he didn't notice the rope holding him had been cut and a soft cloth had been draped over his body. It was very warm and soft so very soft, he ran his fingers over the cloth examining the texture with his fingers.

Then assuming all fears he was picked up by the soft speaking man, he struggled and whimpered not used to being held in such a way it made his body feel very uncomfortable and it hurt too. He pulled his hair again and being so scared and nervous he evacuated his bladder all over the strange dressed man. He screwed his eyes shut as he was taken out of the room he had spent most of his life in, everything was bright and so noisy!

He moaned softly burying his head into the soft cloth blanket, the gentle touch soothing him as he continued to shake. Chris peeked a glance outside and there was so many people, lights were flashing and sirens and shouting. Chris's breathing began to pick up and struggle desperately to get away that was until a sharp pain, different to what he felt before made him feel fuzzy and floppy, his head spun and he closed his eyes falling into a warm oblivion.

Chris coughed softly as he awoke and slowly opened his eyes, panic immeadeatlly began. Where was he? He looked around , this wasn't his room. His body was covered in white things and wires! He was wearing a strange dress that was a little rough on his skin, he went to pull his hair but found it gone. It was short now he couldn't pull it... His nails were cut and his body was clean what was going on? Something was on his hand, the sore infected one. It felt a little better, sure it still hurt but it was more numb now.

He pushed up on his arm as he legs pulled in pain after being sat so long every movement was painful. Wincing softly he ran fingers over the white things on his arms, they must have been covering something. He looked to the door as it opened his eyes wide in fear his body frozen in terror.

Dr. Adelaide Carson

Image
Adelaide couldn't seem to believe a single word she was hearing from the mouths of the police officers. Sure she has encountered many other cases similar to this one, but they were never as terrible. What kind of man would treat their own son this way? The doctor let out a sigh as she nodded her head at the officers, "I'll see what I can do. Please try to catch that man, he doesn't deserve his freedom," she stated before turning on her heels and making her way through the halls to the new patient's room.

Adelaide glanced down at the clipboard in her hand and read over the name, Christopher Campbell before opening the door, finding the patient in clear distress as he stared over at her. She closed the door behind her and didn't make any other move, not wanting to scare the boy any more than he clearly already was.

The brunette gave a warm smile and spoke in a calm, gentle voice, "I'm Dr. Carson. I'm not going to hurt you, I just want to talk. Will you talk with me?" she questioned as she continued to stand there in front of the closed door. Adelaide wasn't going to move any closer until she was able to be sure he was a bit more calm.

From experience she knew she shouldn't make any quick, sudden movements or get too close too quickly to someone going through as much paranoia and distress as he was.

Chris could hear his heartbeat in his ears pounding away as the door opened and a complete stranger entered the room. He thought it might have been his father again, whimpering to himself softly he shuffled a little closer to the wall feeling more safe. If he leant against something he couldn't be hurt from behind, he was always safe in a corner but he wasn't used to this place. It wasn't like his room he could see everything which he liked he wasn't in darkness anymore.

His head tilted as the stranger spoke, a warming voice left her lips and Chris began to scan her over. Her hair was long and a dark colour, Chris's hand went up to his own hair feeling the the short strands. Tapping his head a few times he hummed to himself, his eyes scanned down her body she was wearing a dark version of what he was wearing but hers looked better. He stroked the gown with his fingertips and was distracted by his hand for a moment he hadn't really seen his hand before. He moved his fingers as best he could, it hurt a lot especially when he clenched his fist. This hand wasn't as bad as his damaged one, humming again he put the bandaged hand in his mouth planning to suck on it as a form of comfort. Gagging at the taste of the bandages he shook his head tapping his head again.

At their point the stranger had stopped talking, most of what she had said had gone completely over Chris's head, he had no idea what she was saying. He was never allowed to speak at home so he never really learnt, angry words were said to him and incoherent shouts as he was hit over and over again.

Shivering he shook his head bringing his knees up to his chest his face wincing in pain. He looked over to the stranger at the door shaking his head again he rocked back and forth slowly looking at her carefully avoiding eye contact, eye contact was bad. Very bad.

Dr. Carson watched as the boy began doing numerous different things as a form of self comfort and wonder. She felt bad for the boy and wanted to help but since he wouldn't talk she figured she would talk and just let him listen. Dr. Carson found that this helped with other patients, learning more about her and letting them know there is nothing to worry about.

She slowly took a step to the chair as she spoke, "I'm just going to sit down," she stated as she sat down in the chair and began to speak once more. "If you don't want to say anything, it's fine, I understand. Sometimes it takes a while for people to warm up to strangers. I promise that anything you say to me won't leave this room unless it would be helpful to find the man who did this to you," she was then interrupted by a woman bringing in his meal.

"Sorry to interrupt Doctor, but he needs his meal," the woman stated as she stepped into the room. Dr. Carson nodded her head in approval and took the tray from her and sat it down on the table beside his bed. "Thank you," she stated before watching the female step out of the room and close the door behind her.

Dr. Carson returned her attention to the boy and glanced over at his food tray. "That's for you, you can eat as much as you want." She then went silent for a couple moments, just letting him take in everything that has been going on within the pass couple minutes.

Finally Dr. Carson spoke up one more time. "Could you tell me your name?" she questioned. Even though she already knew what his name was, this was always a good question to ask just to see if her patients were making any kind of progress.

Chris hummed to himself softly as the lady still watched him, he felt as though he was doing something wrong. He jumped as there was a knock on the door he scooted into the corner wincing at the painful movements, the lady was given something that smelt strange to Chris. He leaned forward still rapidly sniffing as well as getting a good look at everything, as she put it on the table beside his bed. Such colour! Licking his lips as his mouth began to salivate, he scooted forward watched as she sat down. What was her name?

Craning his neck to give another close look at the plate of food, He reached forward slowly for the green things, giving a rather uncomfortable glance to the doctor, he poked them retracting his finger quickly. It felt squishy but it was very warm too. He looked at his finger and sucked it gently, smacking his lips together he couldn't grasp the taste because he had never tasted this before and he wasn't so sure.

Reaching forward he tried to pick up the greens, after picking some up and failing to get it of the plate due to lack of grip. He grumbled a little but eventually picked one up. He put it in his mouth and sucked on it gently, he bit down slowly and grimaced as the food tasted squishy and wet. Shaking his head he took it out of his mouth and put it back on the plate.

Smacking his lips together he looked at the slab of white, his head tilting from side to side. He poked it gently and squeaked when it squashed down, he lifted his fingers sniffed them carefully. He tried to pick it up but was failing, it kept breaking in his hand. Eventually he picked up a piece he licked it slowly. He nibbled slowly the texture was chewy to him but it wasn't that bad.

He was done after a while and looked at the brown substance in a cup, he poked his finger and it sunk right in! He cooed again pulling his finger out, he looked at the thick pudding on his finger. Sniffing it he was confused at the sweet smell, sucking his finger he hummed softly. It was very nice but very sweet in fact too sweet.

Shaking his head he scooted back on the bed, he didn't want anymore. Even though he didn't really chew anything and swallow it he was happy enough after years without a full meal. He scratched his head a little yawning lightly, he looked up at the drip again his hand reaching out to touch the clear cord. He tapped it and watched as the bag at the top wiggled, his eyes watched carefully looking back to the doctor.

Dr. Carson smiled when she watched him beginning to interact with the food on his plate. She found it a bit upsetting that he apparently had no interaction with this food or to even know how to use eating utensils. Of course she knew it wasn't his fault and it wasn't him she was angry at, it was the man who did this to such an innocent young man. Did he even have the chance to go to school? Dr. Carson knew the answer to that question but she still felt she had to ask herself.

Finally Chris pushed away from the table, showing that he was apparently done with everything that was on the plate. The brunette stood to her feet and reached for the remote. "Do you want to watch tv? If you do just press this red button to turn it on. These are the buttons to change what you're watching and these buttons control the volume," she stated as she showed her where the buttons were on the remote then set it down on the table beside him. "I'm going to leave you to get some sleep and relax, try to get used to your surroundings. If you want to eat more, try using the fork and spoon, they're the silver utensils on the tray. If you need me just press the button on the bed and I'll be here." she added before making her way out the door.

Finally Dr. Carson made her way out the room and stepped into her office. She pulled out the file on Chris and began writing down a couple things she picked up from him.

Patient seems to be sheltered from the outside world. Has the mentality of a two year old. He is very curious about everything around him but is also quite skittish to every strange noise he hears. It may take a few more days to get him to speak to anyone.

Chris watched as the doctor spoke to him again, showing him a strange box, with buttons on it. She spoke again getting up from where she was sitting heading for the door, where was she going? Why was she going? Even though Chris had no human interaction and even though he was more so scared of everything he would have preferred that she stayed with him.

He watched her leave, looking at the back of her as the left. He tapped his hands together rocking back and forth, he looked as the table and hummed softly at the shiny things on the table. He reached forward nervously and gently pushed them off the table, jumping at the metallic ringing as they bounced on the floor. Looking down off the bed he was satisfied enough that the shiny things couldn't hurt him, from down there.

He turned his attention to the remote picking it up he sniffed it quickly, licking it a few times, it didn't taste of anything. He pushed a few buttons and jumped when a voice came from the room. He cried out softly covering his ears, eyes darting around to find the source of the noise. There it was a picture box, there was people in the box. He was sure it wasn't a person because it was red and fluffy, he stroked the blanket wondering what it felt like. The red thing kept saying Elmo. That must have been a name...what was his name? He tapped his head a few times thinking about what he was called. Useless, pathetic, freak, dog. Chris...that was it Chris! He watched the fuzžy red Elmo for a while entranced by the colours and sounds.

Rubbing his eyes Chris fell asleep for a while but that was short lived as a nightmare flew into his mind. He was being hit with a belt, really hard enough to cut his body and brusie his skin. Sitting up he screamed covering his eyes shivering nervously, knocking the button on the side of his bed, he bit down on his hand moaning as it hurt to do so.

The brunette sat in her office for a couple hours going through all of the files from her patients, none as intricate and delicate as Chris's was. His was definitely something she had to take patiently and delicately. Because of the way he grew up, he had the mind of a toddler, one that had no recollection of the outside world. She had to teach him, help him grow into the man he is supposed to be at this age. Chris has potential, she knew that, she just hoped that she would be the one to show him just how much potential he truly had.

As the silence filled the air, she was startled by the beeping of her alarm. Chris needed her. She sighed as she stood to her feet and made her way through the halls and into his room. Dr. Carson slowly closed the door behind her and looked over at him. He looked scared. "What's the matter?" she questioned with a caring, soft voice as she cautiously approached him and sat back down in the chair.

Chris relaxed a little more as the doctor came back it was nice to see a familiar face. He hummed softly taking his hand out of his mouth as she asked him what was the matter.

He looked around the room to see what he could use, he picked up the remote and held it up mumbling softly. He pointed to a small belt across the doctors waist pointing to the remote again trying to get through that remote represented the belt. He made a hitting motion pointing to his legs and back.

Was this working? He had no clue. He picked up his pillow and put his head on it to pretend he was asleep. That should have put through the dream he had.

It took Dr. Carson a couple moments before realizing what Chris was explaining. He had a nightmare. A nightmare about the horrible things his father did to him all those years. She let out a soft sigh and slowly reached for his hand and gently began stroking his hand with her thumb in a comforting manner.

"It's alright. You're okay, no one is going to hurt you," she stated to the boy hoping that he would be able to calm down soon. She began to sing the song her mother used to sing to her when she was a child. She thought that maybe it would help him calm down a bit.

Chris closed his eyes as she grabbed his hand but he was surprised that she didn't hit him or pulled him down to the floor to be beaten. He was still getting used to this strange action of kindness. She stroked his hand softly and he watched her thumb moving slowly, he tried to get his thumb to move but it hurts with his joints being so stiff. He managed to stroke her finger a few times before it became too painful.

He liked the sounds that was coming out of her mouth, it was very pretty. He hummed softly wiping some of the stray tears from his face he yawned softly and tipped his body to the side resting his head on the pillow. Still holding onto her hand closing his eyes slowly.

Dr. Carson smiled when she finished the song, finding that she was successful in calming Chris down. "How do you feel now?" she stated with a soft tone, trying her best not to be too loud to suddenly cause him to fully wake up. She knew it was falling back to sleep, but she didn't want to get up and leave the room if he still needed her by his side.

Dr. Carson loved being able to see the innocence in him, but the reasons for his innocence she hated. In the long run she hoped she would be able to help him learn everything he should know by this age and be able to interact with other people without being paranoid that they could turn on him at any given second. Of course that could happen to anyone, but not in the way his father did to him for those many years. She just hated she wasn't able to help him sooner. If she had only known that his father was hiding Chris down in his basement and beat on him for his entertainment and way to relieve anger, she would have acted on it.
