The bar was filled with a musky smoke that was familiar to Black. He came to the tavern often for a good days worth of drinking before either being kicked out or stumbling on his way to the abandoned home at the edge of town. Though today seemed different, in fact his heart did not ache as much as he stepped into the musk of Suzanna's Tavern. The men whispered their usual dislikes of the short man known as Black Dog. He was not known as the best man in Rising Falls.

He took a deep breath in of the mixture of the musk, sweat, and spilled alcohol. Sitting down at his usual corner, Suzanna offered him his usual Rum that he downed. Soon he was laying his head on his arms and crying. The men turned once or twice to see the weeping man before rolling their eyes. It was nothing new to the town. Black had lost his white White Dog only a month ago and his pain was written all over his face. His tattered clothing, drunken solitude, and crying was all signs of this man's life spiraling out of control.

After hours of drinking, Suzanna eventually told him he had to leave before he died on her counter. Black just brushed her off and stood without another word. "I'll find somewhere else to serve me," he muttered before swaying out of the building and almost falling into the street.
